  • AGCO to prohibit use of athletes in online gaming advertising, marketing activities in Ontario | Yogonet International

AGCO to prohibit use of athletes in online gaming advertising, marketing activities in Ontario | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has updated the Registrar’s Standards for online gaming, prohibiting the utilization of athletes in online gaming advertising and marketing activities. The regulator is also restricting the use of celebrities “who would likely be expected to appeal to minors.”

These changes come as a response to growing concerns about the potential adverse effects such promotions might have on underage individuals. The updated standards are set to take effect on February 28, 2024, and follow the first year of Ontario’s regulated iGaming market.

During this period, the AGCO identified several instances where athletes and celebrities were employed in iGaming advertising. The Commission recognized these approaches as potential hazards, particularly to those who are not of legal gambling age, which prompted the regulatory adjustments.

The AGCO’s decision to tighten restrictions on athlete and celebrity endorsements followed comprehensive consultations conducted in April 2023. Stakeholders from various domains, including mental health organizations, public health experts, responsible gambling advocates, gaming operators, broadcasting firms, marketing agencies, and the public, all weighed in on the policy update.

In light of the feedback received during these consultations, the AGCO determined that prohibiting the use of athletes, except for advocating responsible gambling practices, and imposing limitations on celebrities, role models, social media influencers, entertainers, cartoon characters, and symbols that could have an appeal to minors, was crucial to safeguarding young individuals from potentially harmful content.

Tom Mungham, Registrar and CEO of AGCO, underscored the considerable influence athletes and celebrities have on children and youth. Mungham noted: “Children and youth are heavily influenced by the athletes and celebrities they look up to. We’re therefore increasing measures to protect Ontario’s youth by disallowing the use of these influential figures to promote online betting in Ontario.”

In addition to these changes, the amended standards articulate that advertising, marketing materials, and communications must not target high-risk, underage, or self-excluded individuals for participation in lottery schemes. Furthermore, these materials shall not include underage individuals, nor should they knowingly be communicated or sent to high-risk players.

Advertising should refrain from themes or language primarily intended to appeal to minors, avoid locations closely associated with youth, and not exploit the vulnerabilities, aspirations, or lack of knowledge of high-risk individuals.

Under AGCO’s rules, gambling ads cannot appear on billboards or other outdoor displays that are directly adjacent to schools or other primarily youth-oriented locations; or use or contain cartoon figures, symbols, role models, social media influencers, celebrities, or entertainers who would likely be expected to appeal to minors.

To ensure adherence to these enhanced standards, the AGCO said it will provide additional guidance in the coming weeks.

MLB’s Seattle Mariners enters multi-year partnership with Muckleshoot Casino Resort | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

The MLB’s Seattle Mariners have announced a multi-year partnership with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and its Muckleshoot Casino Resort. The collaboration includes the designation of the property as the team’s Exclusive Casino Partner, and will see the organizations work together to impact the Pacific Northwest area.

As part of the collaboration, the tribe and the Mariners will host five baseball and softball camps, featuring trainers who are former college and professional players, in areas where access to baseball and softball programming has been limited.

The organizations also will work together to create a new after-school baseball and softball youth development program at the Muckleshoot Tribal School. The initiative will focus on middle school students, an age group that experiences the highest drop-off in access to play.

Additionally, the tribe will “uplift organizations that align with the Mariners Care Foundation’s core areas of focus,” including advancing equity and justice and making its hometown “healthier and more vibrant.”

These organizations include Seattle Foundation’s Fund for Inclusive Recovery, which helps meet the needs of people most impacted by the pandemic; and Downtown Emergency Service Center, which serves thousands of homeless and formerly homeless people through low-barrier health services, survival services, and permanent housing.

This partnership is the result of two organizations coming together who share common values and beliefs. We’re excited to celebrate the Tribe’s culture and traditions with fans at T-Mobile Park, while providing enhanced baseball and softball access to more children throughout our region,” said Catie Griggs, Seattle Mariners President of Business Operations.

Indigenous culture is steeped in gameplay as a way to strengthen communities, nurture resilience, and advance wellness,” added Junior Maldonado, Muckleshoot Casino Resort Executive Director of Gaming Operations.

These connective values drive our shared identity with the Mariners. We are grateful for the opportunity to educate fans on the Muckleshoot heritage as this region’s first caretakers and to empower new generations to dream bigger.”

Back in March, the Muckleshoot Diamond Club was unveiled at T-Mobile Park, the Seattle Mariners’ ballpark. The new area features tribal art and mural installations integrated throughout the premium space, from hand-painted baseball bats utilizing Coast Salish design to hand-carved canoes and paddles.

During select homestands, fans can also experience tribal-inspired fare in the new facility. Created in partnership with Muckleshoot Casino Executive Chef Andreas Hartmann and his culinary team, new menu offerings include fry bread, burlap-steamed Manila clams, salmon cake sliders, and more.

Also showcasing the ties between the two parties, for the Native American Heritage Night presented by Muckleshoot Casino Resort on Monday, August 28, Muckleshoot tribal artists created a limited-edition Mariners jersey that will be given away to the first 10,000 fans ages 21+ through the gates. Throughout the game, the Mariners will honor the heritage and culture of Indigenous Peoples across the Pacific Northwest.

FBMDS introduces The Lucky Gazette, the first episode of its noir-inspired Golden Mystery multi-game series | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

Online gaming company FBMDS has launched The Lucky Gazette, the first chapter in the Golden Mystery multi-game pack, set against the backdrop of glitz and glamour in 1950s Hollywood. FBMDS describes the product as “poised to transform the iGaming universe,” delivering exceptional results to online casino operators.

The Lucky Gazette encapsulates the essence of FBMDS’ commitment to crafting immersive gaming experiences. This dynamic slot game, infused with engaging graphics and a captivating storyline, draws players into a world of mystery and excitement,” the company said. “The unique blend of features, including Stacked Wilds, Wild Multipliers, and a rewarding bonus mode, ensures an emotional gaming journey.

FBMDS further elaborated on the plot, noting that the first chapter of the Golden Mystery “kicks off with a bang”, mirroring a true Hollywood blockbuster. The storyline follows the commencement of the Globe Cinema Awards, with renowned director Tony Romano’s aspirations for the Best Director of the Year award getting shattered in a whirlwind of events that culminate in a gripping crime.

The twists and turns are reminiscent of a classic noir film, replete with police pursuits, adrenaline-pumping chases, and an investigation that promises to keep players “on the edge of their seats,” notes FBMDS.

The day after the awards, the streets of Los Angeles are abuzz with Tobey Parker’s urgent headlines, ‘ROBBERY STROKE TONY ROMANO’S DREAM NIGHT! EXTRA, EXTRA!’ The front page of The Lucky Gazette divulges the shocking details of the audacious crime that has gripped the city. The initial turmoil unfolds backstage, where Tony Romano’s coveted statuette vanishes into thin air, sparking a chain of events that plunges the city into suspense,” FBMDS explained the game’s story.

Amid the chaos, two mysterious figures flee the scene, leaving a trail of bewilderment in their wake. The public, journalists, and authorities are left perplexed by the escape, turning the incident from a mere robbery into a tale of intrigue and crime. The pursuit unfolds like scenes from a Hollywood blockbuster as the suspects elude capture, culminating in a high-speed chase marked by gunfire and chaos.

For online casino operators, integrating The Lucky Gazette “promises a host of advantages,” says the supplier. The company cites elevated player engagement with the gripping storyline, fuelling anticipation with each new episode, and bonus features that encourage extended gameplay, as some examples.

More website traffic, amplified social media buzz, and increased customer loyalty as players become emotionally invested in solving the crime are other perks of this product,” the company adds.

    Renato Almeida, Director at FBM

Renato Almeida, Director at FBM, stated: “In the ever-evolving landscape of iGaming, FBMDS remains committed to delivering cutting-edge products that resonate with players and elevate casino operators’ success. ‘The Lucky Gazette’ expresses our mission, promising an unforgettable experience capable of elevating any casino’s gaming portfolio.”

SOFTSWISS secures GLI-19 and GLI-33 iGaming certifications from GLI | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

iGaming software provider SOFTSWISS announced Friday that it has obtained two certifications from Gaming Laboratories International (GLI). While the SOFTSWISS Casino Platform received the GLI-19 certification for Interactive Gaming Systems, the SOFTSWISS Sportsbook secured the GLI-33 certification for Event Wagering Systems.

GLI-19 and GLI-33 are “paramount benchmarks” for the technical regulation of iGaming markets, notes SOFTSWISS. The company received the certifications from Gaming Laboratories International, a leading gaming equipment testing company active since 1989 that has set technical standards for global gaming jurisdictions.

The requirements were developed by scrutinizing and incorporating insights from guidelines, regulations, and policies provided by regulators and other industry stakeholders, such as the Nevada Gaming Commission and Gaming Control Board, the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, the British Columbia Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch, among others.

SOFTSWISS noted that the GLI-19 and GLI-33 certifications impose rigorous standards that iGaming companies must meet for security, fairness, and player protection. Their specifications cover all aspects of the gaming process, spanning game development to payout mechanisms.

Attaining such prestigious certifications marks a huge advancement for SOFTSWISS in its journey to secure country licenses, given that these standards cover a significant portion of most local software requirements,” the company said.

    Vitali Matsukevich, COO at SOFTSWISS

Vitali Matsukevich, COO at SOFTSWISS, said: “Achieving the highest standards of technical compliance set by GLI for both the SOFTSWISS Casino Platform and Sportsbook is a strategic leap forward for us. This accomplishment not only paves the way for us to enter new regulated markets but also reaffirms the exceptional quality of our software. I would like to thank all the teams involved for reaching another significant milestone for SOFTSWISS.”

In other recent news, SOFTSWISS has confirmed its presence at the upcoming SBC Summit Barcelona 2023 in September. The company will be showcasing its product ecosystem at stand CG58, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet with SOFTSWISS representatives and gain  insights for their iGaming businesses.

Chinese online platforms cut live streaming features over gambling concerns | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

Chinese online content platforms, including Tencent Music and NetEase’s Cloud Music, have removed live streaming features due to concerns about potential illegal gambling activities. This move is expected to impact their quarterly revenues significantly.

The decision to remove features like virtual lucky draws follows a government crackdown on live streaming, aimed at curbing online gambling, Reuters reported. Despite platforms’ claims of prohibiting gambling, analysts note that popular lucky draws often involve collusion between live streamers and viewers to distribute prizes.

These features have positively impacted the thriving live-streaming market, valued at approximately 152 billion yuan ($21 billion) in 2022 according to research firm Analysys.

The government’s actions led Tencent Music and Huya to “proactively deactivate live streaming features that involve games of chance,” Ivan Su, a Morningstar analyst, was quoted as saying in the Reuters report. This move has curtailed a profitable revenue stream for these platforms.

In their recent second-quarter earnings reports, Tencent’s online music division and its Huya gaming platform indicated a decline of 24% and 16% in their social entertainment revenues, which encompass live streaming, compared to the same period last year.

Likewise, Cloud Music, primarily owned by NetEase, revealed a 24% year-on-year decrease in social entertainment revenue for the second quarter. This category contributes roughly half of the platform’s total revenue.

Online gambling remains a concern for Chinese authorities, with officials saying in 2020 that the cross-border flow of funds for this activity posed a national security risk. Several platforms took down lottery-like features that year in response to regulatory pressure but introduced new ones later with minor modifications.

  • Spain: Online sports betting was the fastest-growing gambling sector in 2022 | Yogonet International

Spain: Online sports betting was the fastest-growing gambling sector in 2022 | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

A new analysis of the Spanish online gambler profile, published by the General Secretariat of Consumer Affairs and Gaming under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, revealed that in 2022 about 1,595,093 people were active gamblers in Spain (3.2% of the 48,345,223 that make up the population of this country). This represents an annual growth of 8.44%, with a total of 386,411 new players.

Of the total number of online players, 83.25% are men and 16.75% are women.

The report also shows that, of all these active players, 80% (1,276,837) gambled through betting, mainly on sports. The remaining 20% included other online games such as casino, poker, or bingo.

Sports betting is the sector that grew the most in 2022, compared to the previous year, with an increase of 12.33%, mainly among the youngest segments. Last year ended with 62,331 more players between 18 and 25 years old, being the age range with the highest growth compared to 2021.

The profile of the average online gambler, according to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs report, is a man between 18 and 35 years of age.

In terms of average spending, men spent EUR 626 per year and women EUR 320 per year. By age group, the highest average net spending is EUR 845 per year and corresponds to players between 36 and 45 years of age. Of the total number of players, 20% of them win net prizes. Even for 5% of the participants, the net winnings in the year exceed EUR 603.

    Income tax return

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs’ own data, almost 300,000 taxpayers would have to declare winnings from their online gambling. In addition to including them in their income tax return data related to salary, interest on bank accounts, or donations made to associations and charities, it is also necessary to add the winnings obtained through sports betting. In fact, the Tax Agency usually reviews this type of data to detect or avoid possible fraud by taxpayers.

In this sense, even if you have only won EUR 1 in bets, it is necessary to declare that amount since it is part of the income during the tax year, as long as you are obliged to file the tax return.

As established in the Personal Income Tax Law 35/2006, a tax return must be filed if you have obtained an annual income of more than EUR 22,000 with a single payer or more than EUR 14,000 in the case of two payers.

However, if the income from sports betting or any other source exceeds EUR 1,000, it is also necessary to file a tax return even if the rule for income from employment is not met.

West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá investigated by English Football Association over potential betting policy breaches | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paquetá is being investigated by the Football Association over potential betting breaches at a crucial time in his career. Manchester City was exploring a deal for the 25-year-old Brazillian player. However, the deal has now been stalled over “allegations of gambling in football,” as per The Guardian.

Sources close to the player told the publication that they were shocked by the investigation and that Paquetá had not been accused of making bets. According to reports, the investigation involves a bet placed by Paqueta on getting booked during West Ham’s match against Aston Villa in March, where the player received a yellow card for a challenge on John McGinn.

Brazilian outlet Globo reported the initial analysis showed that on that day several new accounts were created at Betway, with users depositing the maximum amount allowed. “These accounts made a matched bet to increase the winnings: the authors would only receive the money if Paquetá took a yellow card against Villa,” the report stated.

The Daily Mail stated that the investigations into the Brazilian have to do with wagers placed in Brazil and are related to in-game incidents rather than the outcomes of West Ham’s matches. Although it is unclear what those in-game incidents are, Paquetá has yet to be formally questioned by authorities. As the inquiry proceeds, the player has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to seek legal counsel from his team.

Paqueta joined West Ham last summer from Fench club Lyon for a club-record fee of £51 million (approx. $65 million). He scored four goals in 28 Premier League appearances last season, won the Europa Conference League with the club, and has 42 caps for Brazil.

His skill with the ball also impressed Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who has been watching the midfielder following an injury to City’s top player Kevin De Bruyne, who is expected to be sidelined for at least four months after sustaining a major hamstring injury.

    • August 22 at 1:30 p.m.  – The KHRC will convene to vote on license applications. Simultaneously, the roster of authorized retail facilities and endorsed mobile applications will be unveiled.
    • August 28 at 6 a.m.  – Kentuckians will be able to pre-register their accounts through sanctioned mobile applications. It is planned to alleviate pressure on electronic systems.
    • September 7 at 6 a.m. – Individuals can initiate deposits into their pre-registered mobile accounts and subsequently commence in-person wagering at licensed facilities from 10 a.m.
    • September 28 at 6 a.m. – Individuals will be able to engage in wagering activities via approved mobile applications.

Governor Beshear enacted a bipartisan bill into law in March, thereby paving the way for the introduction of sports betting in the state, a development that will have a notable impact on Kentucky’s betting landscape.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, which is responsible for oversight and enforcement of sports betting, developed and approved the regulations.

Gov. Beshear, at the time of signing the bill, said the state anticipates $23 million a year in tax revenue from the vertical, and that the new market will keep sports betting money from going to neighboring states. The legislation gives the racing commission until the end of 2023 to set up permanent regulations and award licenses.

Philippines’ gambling industry aims to double gross gaming revenue by 2028 | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

The Philippines’ gambling industry is setting its sights on an ambitious target – doubling its gross gaming revenue by 2028. This goal is fueled by the influx of tourists, particularly affluent Chinese gamblers, and the gaming regulator’s chief, Alejandro Tengco, highlighted this prospect on Wednesday.

Tengco noted that at least six new casino projects, collectively valued at around $3 billion, are in the pipeline. These initiatives are strategically positioned to elevate the Southeast Asian nation’s thriving gaming sector, especially in anticipation of competition from countries like Japan and Thailand.

Anticipating substantial annual growth, Tengco projected that the country’s gaming industry could achieve a new record high in gross gaming revenue (GGR) this year. He estimated that GGR could reach an impressive range of  $7.9 to $8.8 billion (450 billion to 500 billion pesos) within the next five years.

While the industry experienced a remarkable milestone with a GGR of $4.51 billion (256 billion pesos) in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions. However, the sector managed to rebound in 2021, recording a GGR of $3.77 billion (214 billion pesos) in 2022.

Tengco emphasized that the present robust performance primarily hinges on local players’ engagement. He expressed optimism about the sector’s potential to further expand its reach into the foreign market, owing to improved foreign travel guidelines.

Despite the positive outlook, Tengco cautioned about potential challenges that could impact long-term growth. These include geopolitical conflicts, the rise of illegal gambling activities, and economic downturns.

The Philippine gambling landscape, known for its condensed version of the Las Vegas strip in the capital, has effectively lured high rollers from countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea.

This allure has resulted in substantial investments from both domestic and foreign players, leading to the establishment of billion-dollar integrated casino-resorts.

To complement the existing four casinos in the capital, plans are underway for six more gaming facilities across the Philippines. Among these ventures are a $2 billion casino and golf course complex in Pampanga province, a $300 million project by Bloomberry Resorts in Cavite province, and a similar-scale undertaking by Global-Estate Resorts on Boracay island.
