FTN Network acquires DFSForecast, further boosting daily fantasy sports offerings | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

Sports data company FTN Network has acquired DFSForecast, known for its daily fantasy sports (DFS) lineup builders and advanced data tools.

Subscribers on FTNDaily.com will now be able to take advantage of DFSForecast’s lineup optimizer to create daily fantasy lineups in a simple and easy-to-use tool powered by FTN Data, the company said in a statement. Generated lineups can then be uploaded to one’s preferred fantasy operator, simplifying mass roster inputting.

The Fantasy Footballers and One Week Season will be the first partners to use this newly acquired tool that is now part of the suite of products offered to FTN Data customers. Offered at a competitive price point compared to its competitors, FTN will look to expand its network of partners by offering this tool to those that have previously been hindered by the cost, the company said.

The 2023 football season is still very young, but FTN has seen an explosion of growth. We were really impressed with the work Caleb Nelson, Sam Vitello, Adam Lewis, and the entire DFSForecast team were doing,” said FTN Network CEO Kevin Adams.

“The acquisition and incorporation of DFSForecast into our umbrella of tools offered to our customers is just another step in the journey of cementing FTN Network as the one-stop-shop for anyone when it comes to fantasy enthusiast or bettor.

“From our first meeting on, we saw FTN as a natural partner and are thrilled it’s now official. We share the same data-driven approach to fantasy sports and betting. We can’t wait to see how our tools add to FTN’s already incredible ecosystem,” said DFSForecast Co-Founder and CEO Caleb Nelson.

The acquisition follows a string of growth activity from the company in the recent past. Last month, FTN Network signed football data analyst and DVOA (Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average) creator Aaron Schatz to a multi-year contract and named him Chief Analytics Officer. And in July, the company launched its new SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio show, called “The FTN Fantasy Show.”

SharpLink to provide SaharaBets with its personalized bet recommendation technology C4 BetSense | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

Online gaming engagement and conversion solutions provider SharpLink Gaming has announced that SaharaBets will be the first U.S. sports betting operator to begin integration of SharpLink’s new C4 BetSense technology into its online betting platform.

By leveraging player data, betting markets, and other key data points, C4 BetSense captures individual behavioral insight into each player and then serves personalized content and offers through the C4 BetSense API plug-in.

Instead of each bettor seeing essentially the exact same menu of betting opportunities, personalized betting markets and offers are provided by the operator. SharpLink and SaharaBets will commence testing C4 BetSense beginning with the 2023/2024 NFL season and running through March Madness in 2024.

“We are excited to work with SharpLink and the team to provide SaharaBets’ customers with the best experience. Integrating C4 BetSense into our system allows SaharaBets to serve sports bettors with a highly personalized online betting experience,” Andrew Patterson, President of SaharaBets, said.

    SharpLink's Dave Abbott

C4 BetSense was pioneered by SharpLink CTO Dave Abbott. Since joining the company in late 2022, Abbott has assembled a team of data scientists, engineers, and developers to design a workflow solution that delivers personalized bet recommendations to a sports bettor through an operator’s platform, the company explains.

“We believe there is a very big lift possible for sportsbook operators with C4 BetSense integration, helping to convert a much greater number of sports fans into sports bettors and yielding a material increase in betting handle due to smarter bet recommendations and ‘call to action’ offers that distinctly resonate with and motivate each individual player to place wagers,” said Rob Phythian, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SharpLink.

“In fact, early analysis of our prototype system indicates the potential lift could be as high as 20% — and perhaps even higher. Optimizing our tech solutions and expertise in fan engagement and sports betting conversions to drive profitable growth are among SharpLink’s core KPIs that we are striving to achieve. This new partnership with SaharaBets marks a key inflection in our development process and one that we expect will attract other operators to SharpLink as we continue to successfully perform,” Phythian added.

Mobile gaming provider Playtika Holding has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Innplay Labs, a mobile gaming studio based in Israel. This deal will have an upfront consideration of $80 million with a maximum consideration of $300 million.

“The acquisition of Innplay Labs, our second transaction this quarter, represents another strategic expansion of our portfolio with a promising and innovative growth franchise in the Luck Battle genre, and presents another opportunity for us to further utilize our expertise in leveraging LiveOps and proprietary technology to drive sustained, long-term growth,” said Robert Antokol, Chief Executive Officer of Playtika.

“As a fellow Israeli-based company recognized for innovation, Innplay’s talented team shares our culture of focus, speed, and agility. We are excited to embark on this journey together and to rebrand Animals & Coins alongside Innplay.”

The deal extends Playtika’s string of purchases. In August, the company announced the acquisition of European digital advertising and entertainment media platform Azerion Group to acquire the Youda Games portfolio of games. The offering includes titles like the social card-themed game “Governor of Poker 3.

In 2019, Innplay Labs formed with the goal of shaping the next generation of mobile gaming,” said Ore Gilron, Chief Executive Officer of Innplay Labs. “Four years later, our robust team of talented high-skilled game operators have put their passions together to create an outstanding game product with rich engaging content, providing our audience with a uniquely entertaining gaming experience.”

“Looking ahead, we believe becoming a part of Playtika’s strong portfolio of Casual titles will take Innplay Labs to new heights,” Gilron added.

As reported by CT Tech, Innplay Labs specializes in creating mobile games, particularly in the arcade and puzzle animation genres. They have developed games like “Water Ride,” “Brix Master,” and “Animal Kingdom.” The company has raised investments from vgames and Fusion LA.

“I couldn’t ask for a better outcome,” said Eitan Reisel, founder of vgames, one of Innplay Labs’ largest investors. “My vision for vgames has always been to advance the thriving gaming ecosystem and this deal marks a significant milestone in this journey. This acquisition is a testament to Innplay’s incredible talent, focus and rapid growth and I’m thrilled they are joining forces with Playtika, a powerhouse in our industry.”

Playtika, known for its social gaming expertise, had earlier this year attempted to acquire Rovio Entertainment, the company behind the popular Angry Birds series, but the deal did not materialize.

  • Chile’s Supreme Court declares online betting sites illegal and orders the blockage of over 20 platforms | Yogonet International

Chile’s Supreme Court declares online betting sites illegal and orders the blockage of over 20 platforms | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

The Third Chamber of the Supreme Court of Chile issued a ruling in which it declared illegal any type of sports betting sites operating in the country and, in line with this, ordered to block access to more than 20 iGaming platforms through the telecommunications company Mundo Pacifico.

The ruling, published on Tuesday night, corresponds to an appeal for protection filed in 2022 by state-owned lottery company Polla Chilena de Beneficencia against Mundo Pacífico, which was requested not to promote the betting sites and their access for Chilean users.

This appeal, which was rejected in the first instance by the Court of Appeals of Concepción, was accepted by the highest court of the country, which has ordered the blocking of the online betting sites in Mundo Pacífico’s services.

“The plaintiff [Mundo Pacífico] cannot transmit or promote games of chance, unless it accredits legal authorization and from the administrative authority, and therefore it must immediately block all the websites requested by the plaintiff in these proceedings”, reads the court decision.

The ruling states that the activities of the betting sites are developed “illegally and without control”, the reason for which “the action [of protection filed by the Polla de Beneficencia] must be accepted in the terms that will be indicated.”

“As can be inferred from the aforementioned rules, online sports betting, such as the activity denounced by the appellant, is prohibited in our legal system, and debts incurred in such games of chance have an unlawful purpose, and those who enable such activity, as well as those who participate in it, are criminally punished”, the ruling adds.

The online bookmakers affected by the Supreme Court’s decision are Betsson, Betwarrior, Betano, Coolbet, Juegaenlinea.com, Latamwin, Estelarbet, KTO, Bet365, Micasino.com, Rojabet, Betway, Betcris, Betfair, Rivalo, Sportingbet, Bwin, Marathonbet, 1XBET, BetPlay, BetSala, Bodog and Rushbet.

    The ruling is welcomed

The president of the board of directors of Polla Chilena, Macarena Carvallo, valued the ruling of the Supreme Court and reiterated that only this state-owned company is legally authorized to operate sports betting.

“As we have always sustained, gambling is forbidden in our country, except for those legal entities that the law allows and gives a license to develop it. And regarding sports betting, this is given only and exclusively to Polla Chilena de Beneficencia and this ruling reaffirms that”, Carvallo added.

Gauselmann’s edict eGaming celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary of operations | Yogonet International

Hamburg-based edict eGaming GmbH celebrated its 25th year anniversary on September 7. Around 100 guests gathered in Hamburg’s Altona district to celebrate the company’s milestone together. During a harbor tour and dinner, employees, friends, and longstanding partners looked back on the company’s history.

Founded in 1998, the company has set a number of milestones. In 2002, with the development of the first online casino systems in Germany for the casinos in Wiesbaden and Hamburg, the company became the first licensed provider worldwide to stream roulette from a land-based casino on the Internet. Additionally, in 2014, the business saw the introduction of the Game Solution, which enables customers worldwide to integrate the broad games portfolio.

edict has been part of the Gauselmann Group since 2008. Since then, the company has licensed Merkur’s games in individual jurisdictions and delivered them via its proprietary Aggregator Solutions to a variety of casino and sports betting platforms.

  • GLI: “Our tradeshow appearances are never about us, they are about our clients” | Yogonet International

GLI: “Our tradeshow appearances are never about us, they are about our clients” | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

With only a month away from one of the largest tradeshows in the gaming industry, companies from around the globe are preparing to exhibit their products at G2E Las Vegas. Set to take place at The Venetian Expo, Las Vegas from October 9-12, the event is expected to gather more than 350 exhibitors who will be showing off the latest gambling technologies and solutions from around the world.

Ahead of the event, Yogonet caught up with Mackenzie Haugh, GLI’s Chief Delivery Officer. During this exclusive interview, he shares the company’s expectations for the event, insights into the gaming industry’s current trends such as AI, and GLI’s plans for the remainder of the year.

What will the company’s presence at G2E be like, and what will you focus on for this edition? What are your expectations in terms of networking and discussions with other industry stakeholders and partners?

G2E and other tradeshows are exciting because this is such an incredibly dynamic industry. As readers of Yogonet are keenly aware, every facet of the gaming industry across the globe is undergoing unprecedented change, and that’s why GLI offers unmatched partnership and performance. We are dedicated to connecting with regulators, suppliers, and operators in more places, helping the industry embrace change safely and successfully.

One interesting new change about G2E 2023 is the iGaming pavilion. We will be in booth #4419, which is in the center of both land-based and iGaming offerings. From there, we can talk with suppliers of all sizes about their development and compliance journey, and where they want to go in this global gaming industry.

What does this participation at G2E mean for GLI?

What’s interesting is our tradeshow appearances are never about us – they are about our clients. For our supplier clients, it’s about what they are showing or still developing and how we can help to ensure their products are tested and certified properly and to the highest levels of compliance, all while speeding time to market.

For our regulatory clients, it’s about helping them understand new technologies and how they might be affected by or limited by current regulations, and at G2E we get to do this in a very hands-on environment.

For our operator clients, it’s about how to embrace new technologies safely and successfully and to help them better network and share ideas with recent enhancements and Internal Controls (IC).

GLI's stand at ICE London this year

Where do you see the gaming industry headed, and how would you describe the sector and your clients’ current testing demands at the time?

The gaming industry continues to find its place in a rapidly changing society with drastically different needs from patrons in terms of entertainment and gambling. This allows for a number of existing and new gaming companies to develop traditional and unique concepts, both on and off the casino floor.

It’s this constantly changing, innovative environment that keeps things very exciting for us. Our experience has taught us that the only constant is actually change, and with GLI at your side, our clients benefit from nearly 35 years of industry prestige and expertise, helping them embrace change successfully.

As we see new products and technologies hitting the market, would you say regulations are keeping up with this evolving landscape?

Regulators globally are embracing change very successfully, and we are proud to be a partner in their efforts. With many jurisdictions requiring responsible gaming due diligence and other compliance-related issues such as recertification and ongoing auditing, we are proud to offer robust solutions to help clients maintain and understand ongoing compliance obligations.

GLI offers 360-degree compliance services that consist of four overarching categories: regulatory compliance, technical compliance, end-to-end testing, and full-lifecycle compliance. Our suite of integrated compliance services helps companies of all sizes mitigate risk, enabling them to stay focused on the future.

GLI’s network of labs and best-in-class global team of experts aids clients in staying one step ahead, integrating all testing and compliance services seamlessly in addition to advanced cybersecurity services specifically designed to protect operators, regulators, and suppliers across all categories.

GLI's stand at SAGSE this year

One issue set to be discussed at G2E and that has been gaining momentum in the industry is AI. How does GLI leverage artificial intelligence in its processes?

AI seems to be all the buzz in society and is making its way into our industry as well.  At GLI, we are monitoring and using AI in a few key areas:

    • Ethics of AI. As both a part of the GSA committee and as a trusted advisor to many of our regulatory clients, we are working to ensure that a common set of guidelines is established regarding the ethical use of AI with any jurisdictional specific additional needs being addressed from that. We must ensure that rules are in place that AI never be implemented or utilized in a way where decisions are solely made which can impact regulations or player fairness.
    • Internal Improvements. We constantly look at ways to improve existing processes to create more test coverage and/or faster testing durations. While machine learning and automation are not new, AI today is advancing so rapidly and being applied so uniquely, that we are looking at it differently. One example is looking at both big and small wins. For example, we are finding ways to take 15 min tasks and reduce them down to 5 min. A small win. But, doing that a number of times, really starts to add up and makes a series of small wins, a big win in itself.
    • Customer Tools. As much as AI is helping us internally, we are also looking at how it can better aid our customers. This is where the Ethics of AI comes into play strongly as well as we could never have a scenario where the wrong information is supplied and a product developed based on that which ultimately is not compliant. It’s incredibly important to us that we balance AI with human review and oversight to constantly ensure the output is accurate.

What should we expect from GLI for the remainder of the year?

For the rest of the year, the industry can expect from GLI what they can always expect from us: world-class service and the best insights available anywhere. The fact is, the future of gaming is full of uncharted territory, and with our decades of unique expertise, our clients can leverage that experience to achieve their goals—no matter how big or small, or how unique the challenge is. We look at it like this: When you’re ahead of what’s to come, the future is your playground.

GiG debuts its online casino platform in Serbia by powering Betsson’s Rizk launch | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

iGaming technology company Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has announced that its casino platform is now live in Serbia thanks to the launch earlier this month of Betsson‘s casino brand Rizk. This is GiG’s first launch in the Balkan country.

Following the announcement in June this year of a similar launch for Rizk in Germany, this latest expansion builds on a relationship that has grown to now serve 10 regulated markets across Europe and Latin America, since Betsson acquired the brand from GiG in 2020.

GiG notes that Serbian online gaming revenue is expected to generate close to €120 million ($150.64 million) in 2023, with an annual growth rate of over 8% over the next four years, according to H2 gambling data.

GiG asserts that its B2B platform is proving adept at meeting the needs of tier 1 operators like Betsson in markets like the Serbian one. Owing to its agile technology stacks, GiG’s user-centric and scalable approach allows operators “the freedom to mold a bespoke and localized product, leveraging personalization and maximizing acquisition and retention opportunities.”

Marcel Elfersy, Chief Commercial Officer at GiG, said: “Our relationship with the team at Betsson continues to offer exciting new opportunities as we expand further into new and emerging markets together. Serbia and the wider CEE region is an important focus of growth for us, having built a full suite of tailorable platform and sportsbook solutions well suited to meet and exceed the expectations that leading operators have from their platform partners.”

Andrew Valenzia at Betsson added: “I am optimistic that Rizk will be successful in Serbia, an exciting market for us at Betsson Group. I would like to express my gratitude to all the teams involved for their dedication and hard work in making this market entry possible.”

Ontario: Gateway Casinos London embarks on $36.6M renovation, rebranding project | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

Canadian gaming and entertainment operator Gateway Casinos is doubling down on its location at the Western Fair District in London, Ontario. Construction has now begun on a CAD 50+ million ($36.6 million) overhaul of Gateway Casinos London, which will see the gaming floor expanded from 70,000 to 84,000 square feet.

The property’s modernization plan is set to renovate the entire facility into what officials call a modern gaming and dining experience. The casino expects the renovation to finish in late 2025 and about 100 new jobs to be added as a result.

An expanded gaming floor, additional tables, adding two great new restaurants, our Match Eatery and Public House signature brand, as well as our Chow Lucky Noodle House,” said General Manager Darcy Romanin when asked what the new project will encompass.

Specifically, Match Eatery and Public House will be separated from the casino floor to allow diners of all ages, reports CTV News London. It will also feature a heated patio and a performance stage featuring local musicians.

The project will also see an expanded gaming floor featuring 891 slot machines and 18 live gaming tables, wrapped around a new centralized bar. Meanwhile, the exterior will be revamped to feature the “Cascades” brand and a new centralized entrance.

Coun. Susan Stevenson welcomed the reinvestment in what’s becoming the Old East Village’s entertainment district. “Most importantly, we want to be a regional destination. We’ve already got what’s happening at 100 Kellogg [Lane]. This is a perfect next step,” Stevenson told CTV News.

The Western Fair District almost lost the casino to a vacant property on Wonderland Road South a few years ago. However, Gateway’s decision to stay put secures another long-term tenant on the city-owned property.

The development of the Cascades Casino at Western Fair District will be great for London, customers will benefit from new and expanded entertainment and food experiences,” Reg Ash, CEO of Western Fair District, told the cited source. “Everyone will benefit from the enhanced economic impact for London and region through jobs and visitors to our city.”

While the property will undergo extensive work as part of its update, Romanin said construction activities should go mostly unnoticed by casino customers. The project will take about twenty-seven months to complete, but Gateway Casinos divided that into five phases to not impact the customers visiting the gaming floor.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) has become the first gaming laboratory accredited in the State of Paraná following a formal laboratory accreditation process in Brazil. “The milestone achievement builds on GLI’s 25 years of service to the gaming industry throughout Latin America and the Caribbean,” says the company.

Loteria do Estado de Paraná (LOTTOPAR) made the announcement, stating that the laboratory accreditation authorizes GLI to perform testing and certification of lotteries and fixed-odd sports betting based on technical standards required by LOTTOPAR.

“This notice, for the accreditation of testing and certification laboratories, for the lottery gaming industry, demonstrates the commitment of LOTTOPAR and the Government of Paraná to provide a safe and responsible environment for lottery operations, thus guaranteeing global safety standards,” said the director-president of Loterias do Estado do Paraná, Daniel Romanowski.

GLI has worked closely with regulators throughout Latin America and the Caribbean for 25 years, when we obtained the first laboratory accreditation in Peru, becoming the first country to establish the process in the region,” said Karen Sierra Hughes, GLI Vice President of Latin America, Caribbean, and Spain.

Today, we are thrilled to achieve another historic milestone in our journey and to further assist the industry to move forward in Brazil. We are grateful to LOTTOPAR for their dedication to the regulated lottery and sports betting industry and for recognizing GLI for our accreditations, capabilities, and expertise.”

This supports regulators’ policy objectives and industry development timeframes, and the suppliers and operators in their immediate testing and certification needs to achieve a fast and efficient entrance into the market, says the lab.

  • SOFTSWISS Casino Platform unveils new frontend template to help operators cut design time threefold | Yogonet International

SOFTSWISS Casino Platform unveils new frontend template to help operators cut design time threefold | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

iGaming software solutions provider SOFTSWISS unveiled the ‘Super Casino’ design template for its casino platform. This version of the tool helps operators create unique frontend designs that can be launched three times faster than before.

The ‘Super Casino’ template is a design constructor that lets operators customize the frontend of their casino. The tool offers a variety of content blocks and elements for each screen, multiplying the number of possible designs. For example, the first screen alone has five different options for the required elements. “Using this functionality, operators can balance speed and design quality,” the company said.

The business described the ‘Super Casino’ template as a “viable alternative” to designing a casino website from scratch. According to the company, the template can be leveraged by the professional designers in the SOFTSWISS Design Team (WebStudio) “to help casino operators launch their websites faster and more affordably compared to managing in-house or outsourced design teams.”

Darya Avtukhovich, Head of SOFTSWISS Casino Platform, commented: “This useful update is the result of our strategic commitment towards making all setup processes easier and faster.”

The SOFTSWISS Casino Setup and Design Teams conducted extensive research to capture the current trends in online casino design, along with studying the experience of other industries to offer our partners the best possible solution. We are confident to boast designs that are both stylish and optimized and will help our partners acquire and retain players,” she added.

    Olga Ivanchik

Olga Ivanchik, Head of SOFTSWISS Setup Team, said: “The ‘Super Casino’ template offers significant time savings over other options. The site constructor allows you to combine the blocks in a way that creates a bespoke casino design that is tailored to the operator’s specific needs.

“More than that, it comes at a significantly lower cost than a conventional design process,” she concluded.

Operators can discover the ‘Super Casino’ template at the upcoming SBC Summit Barcelona 2023, where SOFTSWISS will exhibit its innovative product ecosystem at stand CG58. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with SOFTSWISS representatives and gain valuable insights into their iGaming businesses.

  • Allwyn revenue reaches $2.1B for the first time in Q2, driven by Camelot acquisitions in UK and US | Yogonet International

Allwyn revenue reaches $2.1B for the first time in Q2, driven by Camelot acquisitions in UK and US | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

European lottery group Allwyn reported consolidated revenue of €2 billion ($2.14 billion) for the first time in its preliminary unaudited results for the second quarter ended June 30, a rise of 114.7% year-on-year.

Robert Chvatal, CEO of Allwyn, commented favorably on the results achieved during the three-month period: “I am pleased to report that Allwyn delivered another quarter of strong growth, profitability, and strategic progress.

The company noted that the rise in consolidated revenue was driven by its recent acquisitions, namely its purchase of Camelot UK Lotteries in February this year; and Camelot’s US-facing group of companies, Camelot Lottery Solutions, which was completed in March this year. According to the company, excluding these acquisitions, the consolidated total revenue was €1 billion ($1.07 billion), which was a rise of just 7.1% yearly.

We delivered organic revenue growth across markets and also saw a further step up in profit and free cash flow generation owing to this being the first full quarter of ownership of our recent acquisitions, Camelot UK and Allwyn LS Group (formerly Camelot LS Group),” Chvatal added.

The group acquired Camelot UK in February this year. The agreement covers all Camelot’s UK operations, including current rights to operate the National Lottery until February 2024. Allwyn will take over from this date after it was awarded the fourth National Lottery license.

This followed Allwyn finalising an agreement to acquire US-facing Camelot LS, since renamed Allwyn LS Group, in January. Both were purchased from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (OTPP).

According to the company, gross gaming revenue (GGR) totaled €1.96 billion ($2.10 billion) for the period, an increase of 115.3%. Meanwhile, net revenue was €906.7 million ($971.9 million), a rise of 51%. EBITDA was €381 million ($408.4 million), a rise of 29% compared to the same quarter the prior year.

In terms of operating locations, Allwyn recorded a total revenue of €373.5 million ($399.8 million) in Austria, which was up by 1% yearly, while Italian revenue reached €557 million ($597 million). Furthermore, total revenue in the Czech Republic and Greece, and Cyprus also rose. For the Czech Republic, total revenue was €126.2 million ($135.2 million); while in Greece and Cyprus, the total revenue was €521 million ($558.4 million), up by 13%.

However, in the UK, Allwyn saw a 3% dip in total revenues to €980.3 million ($1.05 billion).

    H1 Results

For the six months ended June 30, revenue almost doubled year-on-year from €1.87 billion ($2 billion) to €3.69 billion ($3.95 billion). Excluding the acquisition impact, group revenue climbed 11.8% to €2.09 billion ($2.24 billion).

UK revenue in H1 hit €2 billion ($2.14 billion), while Italian revenue reached €1.14 billion ($1.22 billion) and Greece and Cyprus revenue reached €1.07 billion ($1.14 billion). Moreover, revenue in Austria amounted to €761.8 million ($816.5 million),  while revenue in the Czech Republic reached €251.6 million ($269.6 million) and Allwyn LS Group €93.6 million ($100.3 million).

Operating EBITDA was 26.3% higher at €686.6 million ($735.9 million) and adjusted EBITDA increased by 31.6% to €727.7 million ($780.03 million). Adjusted free cash flow in the half climbed 30% to €685 million ($734.2).

    Robert Chvatal, CEO of Allwyn

We continued to deliver strong margins and solid free cash flow generation, with only a limited impact of inflation on our cost base, reflecting our favorable cost structure, with our largest cost categories being directly linked to revenue and our focus on cost and capital efficiency,” Chvatal commented.

“Overall, I am very pleased with Allwyn’s continued progress. I believe we are well placed for the rest of 2023 and the next chapters of our growth story,” the CEO concluded.

  • Electronic pull tabs expansion prompts regulatory concerns in North Dakota | Yogonet International

Electronic pull tabs expansion prompts regulatory concerns in North Dakota | Yogonet International

    [ad_1]

The rapid proliferation of electronic pull tab machines, commonly known as e-tabs, in North Dakota has raised significant questions about the future of charitable gambling in the state and the necessity for robust regulation of these Las Vegas-style devices.

E-tabs, which function akin to traditional slot machines, made their debut in 2018 following approval by the Republican-controlled Legislature. As per a report by the Associated Press (AP), the explosive growth of e-tabs, with approximately 4,700 machines now statewide, has brought to the forefront several pressing issues.

One primary concern is the locations where these machines can be found, including gas stations and convenience stores. Lawmakers have also expressed worries about minors accessing e-tabs. Furthermore, the expansion of these devices has prompted discussions about their impact on tribal nations, whose casinos are economic drivers, as well as the need for effective regulation and the potential for money laundering.

“I think we’ve seen certain things go astray a little bit, where the cattle have gotten out of the corral, and it’s beyond what the intent of our laws are,” Republican state Sen. Janne Myrdal was quoted as saying in the report. Myrdal is the chair of an interim legislative committee that initiated a yearlong investigation into North Dakota’s charitable gambling concerns. This initiative is part of a broader bill aimed at tackling issues related to e-tabs.

Speaking to AP, Myrdal said she would like the study to present “palatable answers” in the next legislative session in 2025 including recommendations regarding the permissible locations for these machines.

Deb McDaniel, Director of North Dakota’s Gaming Division, views the study as an opportunity to educate lawmakers. “This has become huge, and they need to understand how it works,” McDaniel told AP.

In the fiscal year ending on June 30, e-tabs generated nearly $2 billion in gross proceeds from cash and replayed winnings, contributing $205 million to charities, including just over $72 million designated for charitable purposes. Players poured more than $687 million in cash into these machines during fiscal 2023.

While state law does not prescribe specific locations for charitable gambling, it has traditionally been associated with bars. In recent years, a broad interpretation of the term “alcoholic beverage establishment” led to e-tabs appearing in a handful of gas stations and convenience stores.

The bill mandating the current study redefines this term, specifically excluding gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and liquor stores, while grandfathering in the four gas stations and convenience stores currently housing e-tabs. However, this new definition does not address other establishments that may not be conventional bars but are capable of serving and dispensing alcohol, such as hair salons and indoor golf centers.

North Dakota’s constitution grants nonprofits the privilege to conduct charitable gambling, and the state’s intention is to prevent it from becoming a thriving gaming industry. To date, McDaniel’s office has licensed more than 320 charitable organizations to conduct gambling activities, including public safety, fraternal and veterans groups, and broadly defined “public-spirited organizations.”

However, according to McDaniel, the legal definition of a “public-spirited organization” remains broad. She noted that recent license applicants have included organizations that organize community events and appear to have more of a business-oriented focus than a charitable one.
