With Massive Cuts in Federal Research Grants on the Horizon, Industry-Sponsored Research Management Offers Guidance in Building Funding From Corporate Partnerships

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 6, 2017

It has become frighteningly clear that the Trump Administration will be wielding a large axe when it comes to federal research funding, with more than $1 billion in cuts targeted at the NIH budget alone in 2017, and more than $30 billion – 18% of the NIH budget – in 2018. The White House is particularly targeting “indirect” or overhead costs, which comprise just under 30% of federal grant payments to university research labs.

University research leaders are protesting the proposed cuts as shortsighted and damaging to the future of U.S. competitiveness on the world’s innovation stage. So far those protests are falling on deaf ears, however, and many schools are bracing for the worst and preparing their campuses for an increasingly bleak future when it comes to federal funding.  A growing number of universities have already been working hard to increase their research funding from industry partnerships, and that effort is taking on new urgency given the news out of Washington.

“Working with industry in sponsored research partnerships is imperative to supplement the reduced level of federal grant funding, but it’s unfamiliar ground for many research managers.”

    David Schwartz, CEO and Publisher

That’s where Industry-Sponsored Research Management comes in.  Launched last month by Atlanta-based 2Market Information Inc., it’s the first and only publication devoted to helping universities build and manage their portfolios of corporate-sponsored research agreements.

Each monthly issue of Industry-Sponsored Research Management contains high-level strategies and best practices designed to help research managers bring in more industry research contracts, negotiate deals effectively, build lasting relationships with corporate sponsors, protect valuable intellectual property, and ensure airtight compliance practices.

“When we launched the publication we had no idea the Trump budget would include these draconian cuts to federal research funding,” says David Schwartz, 2Market Information’s CEO and publisher. “We had already identified a strong need for information on attracting and managing industry sponsorships, but now that need has become more urgent as more universities realize that funding alternatives will be required to keep their labs open and their promising innovations moving forward.”

Industry-Sponsored Research Management fills a critical information void, providing how-to guidance and expert strategies focused on the many challenges associated with corporate-sponsored research.  “Working with industry in sponsored research partnerships is imperative to supplement the reduced level of federal grant funding, but it’s unfamiliar ground for many research managers. These partnerships involve new intellectual property issues, contracting and negotiation issues, conflict of interest challenges and regulatory concerns. We’re helping our readers navigate these issues while bringing in critical new sources of funding,” Schwartz comments.

Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Provider Susan Holbrook of Croswell, MI featured by National CACFP Sponsors Association

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 5, 2017

Susan Holbrook always wanted to be a teacher and truly has found the best of two worlds. As a home childcare provider, she was able to not only teach, but also stay home with her own children. Twenty-seven years later, she continues to educate preschoolers and care for kids afterschool.

The goal at Susan’s home is to produce happy, healthy, and kind children. Nutrition, of course, is a focus for healthy children. Incorporating the literature from her CACFP sponsor, Susan teaches the children about healthy eating choices and then sends home different information to build those habits. In the warmer months, the children tend to a home garden. Additionally, they take care of the chickens and eggs that are produced. During mealtimes, everyone works together to wash produce, clean up messes and even help plan upcoming menus.

“Some days can be difficult of course, but the next day the children come in with their sweet little faces and we start a new day of fun together.”

    Susan Holbrook, Child Care Provider

Field trips to the library during the summer to participate in the library reading program is definitely a component for happy children. They spend many hours per week outdoors in the play yard and Susan has even incorporated a sunken boat into the ground. The children love to fish and be pirates! There is always fun to be had whether exercising, learning or playing.

Not only is Susan dedicated to her children’s continuous improvement, but she strives to improve as well. Enrolling in Michigan’s Great Start to Quality Program, Susan has completed extra continuing education hours, written a cultural plan and her own continuous improvement plan. She has even been awarded a grant in which she supplied her home childcare with a dramatic play kitchen set and other manipulatives for the kids to enjoy.

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 31, 2017

Leadership development begins with a support system, that helps all team members reach their potential, focusing on their gifts, talents and capabilities. The purpose is not exploitation, but functional benefit for the mission of the team. This requires a fine balance between the need for tunnel vision during execution of a mission and capabilities that support stability, health, happiness and prosperity in the bigger picture of life. Though paradoxical, the objective is a team of leaders.”  — Stephen M. Apatow.

From “Living On The Edge” to being the “Cutting Edge”

In 1994, a small nonprofit organization named Humanitarian Resource Institute (HRI), was formed in Carson City, Nevada.  The mission was to address the cross section of needs defined during two national touch outreach projects, the first for substance abuse in 1990, and second for hunger, homelessness and poverty in 1993.  HRI’s first project was named Focus On America.  Through the assistance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSNBP), the mission was to take lessons learned, and “bridge unmet needs to untapped resources.”   This project reached front-line programs and EFSNBP directors in over 3100 U.S. counties, all 50 states and territories.  In 1999, the successful completion of United States networks, led to the development the International Disaster Information Network (IDIN), to assist FEMA with remediation for the Year 2000 Conversion, and then complex emergencies in 193 UN member countries.

Formation of the Humanitarian University Consortium in 2002, helped connect subject matter experts at colleges and universities, public, private and defense organizations in every UN member country.  Through this consortium initiative, the worlds top reference points in medicine, veterinary medicine and law helped HRI be a global reference point for health care, education, agricultural and economic development.

Shortly thereafter, HRI was recognized as one of nine leading educational and research institutions by the National Academy of Sciences, with the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Columbia University: Center for Public Health Preparedness, Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government: Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Humanitarian Resource Institute, Johns Hopkins University: Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies, Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Center for International Studies, National Academy of Sciences, University of Maryland: Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland,  University of Minnesota: Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy. — See:  Biological Threats and Terrorism, Assessing the Science and Response Capabilities: Workshop Summary:  Forum on Emerging Infections, Board on Global Health. “Front Matter, ” Washington, DC: The National Academies Press, 2002.

In 2009, HRI formed the United Nations Arts Initiative to promote “Arts Integration Into Education,” connecting educators, artists and entertainment industry, who have the innovation, creativity and intimate connection with the grassroots level, to impact prioritized humanitarian emergencies and relief operations. The United Nations Arts Initiative helps both artist and grassroots leaders with strategic planning, critical analysis, expert think tank development for background discussions, peer reviewed data compilation and communications that engage decision makers and audiences in a target demographic.

In 2011, H-II OPSEC Expeditionary Operations was developed to assist defense support for humanitarian and security emergencies, currently beyond the capabilities of governmental, UN, NGO and relief organizations.

Lead from the Front: Leadership Development Programs

Though functioning outside of the mainstream spotlight for 23 years, Humanitarian Resource Institute has been the reference point for unconventional asymmetric strategic planning.

Today, Stephen M. Apatow, President, Director of Research and Development for HRI, is focused on helping young leaders and executive leadership teams understand how to operate in complex environments and strategic areas viewed as critical to the CEO level of operations.  Lead from the Front: Development Programs help the CEO level break down walls and barriers, establishing a focus on optimization of the mission objective, through:

    • Prioritization
    • Subject matter expert review
    • Peer reviewed material support
    • Effective communications to penetrate a target audience.

Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) Provider Corrine Hendrickson of New Glarus, WI featured by National CACFP Sponsors Association.

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 28, 2017

One of the major worries for pregnant moms is child care for the baby when time off from work ends. Corrine Hendrickson was sitting with a group of friends all expecting and having the exact same worry about quality childcare. At that moment, she decided she needed to leave her current job, use the degree she had worked so hard for, and open her own home child care. Ten years later, she has never regretted that sudden decision—loving every moment she spends with the kids in her care.

In Corrine’s home child care, hands-on learning is integrated whenever possible, starting with healthy lifestyles. Every year the children plant a garden. They begin with planning what to plant and walking together to buy the seeds from the local nursery. After plotting and planting, the kids water, weed, pick and prepare the fruits and vegetables. The children take ownership in the menu and are  involved in preparing the food. Even at three, Corrine has them in the kitchen with her cooking. They take turns choosing a vegetable and everyone must take a “thank you bite.” On birthdays and other special days, one child will get to pick their favorite healthy lunch for everyone to prepare.

“If they love learning, they’ll want to continue learning even more as they grow up.”

    Corrine Hendrickson, Childcare Provider

Because the children are involved as much as possible, it facilitates a love for learning. Corrine tries to prepare them with basic knowledge of pre-school skills and then adds to that with physical activity including parachutes, bikes and swimming lessons. Walks to the park and sledding during the winter are fun physical activities enjoyed by all. Inside they have tunnels, dance parties and make-believe props and clothes.

Regardless of what lesson is being learned, above all, Corrine wants the children to learn how to be, and grow up to be, honorable and kind human beings. Her hope is that along the way they are curious, asking questions, and not afraid to try new things.  The progress that she sees her kids making every day keeps her motivated and continues to give her joy for the work she is doing.

New Poll: What Americans Really Think About Roe v. Wade

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 24, 2017

The Human Family Research Center, a nonprofit human rights organization, today released a national poll regarding the views of Americans on whether or not Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, should be reconsidered.

The poll found that Americans are much more evenly divided on the issue than recent surveys, such as those conducted by PEW and Gallup, indictated.  Those polls claim an almost 70% support rate among the public for Roe. The HFRC poll found that, when participants were made aware that an overruling would not lead to outlawing abortion outright, but would instead return the issue to the states, (http://humanfamilyresearch.org/Post-Roe_Map2016.pdf) fewer than half of poll participants supported Roe, while the number of those demanding change increased substantially.  Unlike prior polls, the HFRC poll explained what Roe actually said before asking questions of participants, all registered voters.  The result does make sense since other polls also show that a majority of Americans oppose many of the abortions Roe allows.

Roe is a highly unusual decision because it has caused a massive amount of confusion in the 44 years since it was decided in 1973.  It has taken no less than 36 cases for the Supreme Court to explain Roe,” according to Denise Mackura, president of the Human Family Research Center. Contrary to what was claimed by Senator Feinstein at the Gorsuch nomination hearings, Roe has only been upheld in 3 of those cases. Last year alone, state legislators proposed 50 bills attempting to interpret the requirements of this troubling decision, “The American people know that Roe has poisoned our public discourse and politics.  It is time to return the issue of abortion to the democratic process, said Mackura.” The poll was conducted by the polling co. inc. Womantrend.

The mission of the Human Family Research Center is to provide research and advocacy that builds a better understanding of the inalienable value of every human being from the earliest moments of existence and to awaken a need to create a human community that understands the interconnectedness, value and importance of every human being.

Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) Provider Tony and Connie Mancillas of Saginaw, MI featured by National CACFP Sponsors Association.

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 20, 2017

Connie Mancillas had a different start than many child care providers, working as the assistant director for Mid-Michigan Child Care Centers. She did make a change, but stayed close to her roots when she opened her own home child care. Twenty years later her husband, Tony, works alongside her and they cannot imagine doing anything else. Connie and Tony understand the responsibility parents are entrusting them with. It is an honor and privilege that they do not take lightly.

A monthly newsletter is sent home with lessons to be encouraged by parents in addition to a list of current school activities. The parents are involved by contributing healthy foods with produce from their own gardens and books from home to correlate to the themed units. They all have a role in the community and share that with the child care group as well.

“We love what we do and have been so fortunate to have amazing families.”

Connie Mancillas, Home Child Care Provider

Tony and Connie believe everything can be a learning experience. Cooking projects can turn into science with physical properties and chemical changes. Math is incorporated by cutting the food into different shapes, counting things like orange slices, and measuring ingredients. They even use the Michigan rivalry to encourage vegetables; Sparty fans eat green beans and Wolverine fans eat corn.

Staying active is a key in the Mancillas’s home child care. The children are outside as much as possible, even enjoying snacks and some meals as picnics. During the summer, Connie spends hours swimming with the kids and working on projects. Free play, imaginary play, songs, finger plays and games are included with every themed unit. One activity always leads into an idea
for another and the children have the freedom to direct and learn together. The simplest things can turn out to be the children’s favorite and most rewarding.

Groundbreaking Crypto Start-Up, Internet of Coins, Launches Fundraiser on OpenLedger DC

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 17, 2017

Internet of Coins (www.coinstorm.net) will launch their fundraiser on the OpenLedger Decentralized Conglomerate (DC) on March 21st 2017, in celebration of the first day of spring. Until the launch, investors can join the early bird offer and receive a 5% discount.

Essentially a wallet, Internet of Coins is a secure way to store cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, and trade them without centralized exchanges. With an easy-to-use interface to manage multiple coins and assets, users of Internet of Coins need no advanced technological knowledge to work with cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, the platform acts as an interface to smart contract systems, decentralized communications, and distributed notary functions.

Existing wallets will need no changes or adaptations to have their blockchains and value systems connected to this decentralized network.

Internet of Coins gives users the option to exchange currencies with anyone in the world, without dependency on a centralized third party. Compatible with every currency available, users can receive, send and swap, making fluid trades of value from and to any blockchain available.

The official token of the Internet of Coins platform, termed HYBRID, serves two main purposes. First, it provides a coherent store of value across multiple blockchains, diversifying risk. Second, it serves as the vehicle to swap value between the different chains they are registered on. This will allow users to exchange value without the need for a centralized external third party.

HYBRID tokens will be freely tradable after July 1st, 2017.

Joachim de Koning, Founder of Internet of Coins, explained, ‘From July 1st 2017, we will release the tokens to fundraiser participants. Tokens will be released on the user’s blockchain of choice. Due to the hybrid nature of the token, it can be used on multiple blockchains.’

‘We are inviting people to join us for our Livestream event, http://bit.ly/2mLX9eX, on March 20 at 6pm GMT where we will be presenting our platform and answering questions.’

The idea of Internet of Coins was conceived during the summer of 2014. It aims to create a decentralized, self-sustaining economy by implementing inter-blockchain connectivity.

De Koning continued, ‘Our goal is to make every cryptocurrency autonomously part of a large swarm of decentralized economic activity. We want to do this by enabling every cryptocurrency user to create hybrid assets that interconnect value systems and blockchains. The source code to make this possible will be open source, non-commercial and freely available, to enable the impartial establishment of the Internet of Coins.’

Ronny Boesing, CEO of OpenLedger, says, ‘The Internet of Coins is a great way for interlinking all digital forms of value in one place. Because you can swap digital assets and currencies, peer to peer, you also have the incredible opportunity to earn fees by participating. What we also love about Internet of Coins is the ‘easy to use’ interface which allows users existing wallets to be adapted with no changes or adaptations. In my opinion, this innovation is a need-to-have tool for crypto traders.’

  • Serving 4 Million Children Across the United States: Celebrating CACFP Week!

Serving 4 Million Children Across the United States: Celebrating CACFP Week!

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 13, 2017

March 13-18 is National Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Week. The CACFP is a partnership between parents, children, providers, and the CACFP sponsor emphasizing the important role that the CACFP plays in promoting lifelong healthy eating habits in children and also emphasizes the importance of the CACFP to promote physical activity in family child care homes and child care centers. The CACFP has been cited both in academic studies and in government reports for the contributions it makes to the well-being of children being cared for in our child care system.

The primary goal of the CACFP is to serve nutritious meals to children attending child care homes and centers, especially those from lower economic circumstances. Proper nutrition is vital to the physical, intellectual and emotional development of young children. Secondary goals of the CACFP are: the establishment of lifelong, positive eating habits, reduction of future health care and education costs due to lack of proper early development, and training and support of local child care personnel. Benefits extend to not only the children, but also parents, providers and the communities in which child care home and centers are based. Currently there are 115,000 family child care providers working with 800 sponsors using CACFP. In 2015, CACFP provided 1.9 Billion snacks to 4 million children and 125, 000 persons in Adult Care and 62,000 child care centers.

During CACFP Week we celebrate the thousands of child care providers, center and afterschool staff, sponsors, state agency and USDA staff who work to secure food access for every child.

    National CACFP Sponsors Association

Participants of CACFP get the most up to date information from government organizations such as the USDA and Let’s Move!, regarding exercise and nutrition. Participation means that not only are well-balanced meals and snacks served, but that other requirements such as safety regulations, child to staff ratios, and other health guidelines are being followed. To remain in the program, homes and centers are continually monitored and held to the highest standards of health and nutrition with visits from their CACFP sponsors.

Research proves that good nutrition in young children not only contributes to their physical growth, but to their intellectual and emotional development as well. Children who participate in the CACFP have the opportunity to develop positive eating habits that will lead to a lifetime of good eating habits and good health. CACFP is truly an indicator of quality child care and a program that works sincerely to create a healthy future for America.

Home Child Care Providers are Important in Children’s First Nutritional Experiences

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 7, 2017

CACFP Week is a national education and information campaign sponsored annually by the National CACFP Sponsors Association. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger and bring healthy foods to the table for adults in day care and children in child care homes, centers, and in afterschool and summer feeding programs across the country.

Research proves that good nutrition in young children not only contributes to their physical growth, but to their intellectual and emotional development as well. Children who participate in the CACFP have the opportunity to develop positive eating habits that will lead to a lifetime of good eating habits and good health.

In the US there are over 115,000 family child care providers working with 800 sponsors using CACFP to provide children with high quality nutrition and learning experiences.

    National CACFP Sponsors Association

Across the country, home care providers are doing a great job for America’s children!

In New Glarus, WI, Corrinne Hendrickson cooks with children as young as three years old. They are learning how to prepare healthy meals while becoming familiar with pre-k math skills and science skills in the kitchen.

Tony and Connie Mancillas of Saginaw, MI practice math shapes with all of the different healthy foods they prepare. Sandwiches are in different shapes and sizes, the kids practice counting with their orange and apple slices, children are chefs as they measure for different recipes.

Parents and children alike visit on the planting event day for Michelle Baggett’s home child care in Cincinnati, OH. Not only does Michelle get the children involved in nutritional habits with a garden, but the families and neighbors contribute and learn as well.

In the south, Kelly Rood of Arlington,TX, uses her garden for learning experiences of all kinds. Not only do the children in her care plant and tend to the garden, they have picnics, play and read in the garden. They are surrounded by good nutritional choices.

Susan Holbrook of Croswell, MI shares the resources that she receives from her CACFP Sponsor. This literature not only teaches her little ones about making healthy choices, but their families as well.

We are fortunate to have child care providers across the nation that are committed to serving the children quality, nutritional food through CACFP. The Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) offers lifetime benefits. Proper nutrition during the early years of childhood ensures appropriate development and reduces physical and educational problems later in life. The preschool years are when eating patterns and habits are being established that may determine the quality of one’s diet throughout life. Children who are in child care with providers who participate on the CACFP are given the opportunity of nutrition education by providers who understand their role in shaping attitudes toward the acceptance of nutritious foods. Providers create an atmosphere that instills a positive, curious attitude about food from the earliest years. Participating in CACFP is most certainly an indicator of quality child care

CACFP in Your Community: Celebrate National CACFP Week March 12-18, 2017

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 20, 2017

Each year more than 4 million children are served 1.9 billion meals and snacks through the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in child care centers, family care homes and after-school programs. CACFP provides that same access to over 120,000 elderly persons in adult day care. These are staggering numbers. Even more staggering is the fact that without the CACFP many of the those children would not have access to healthy foods or any food at all.

The primary goals of the CACFP are to serve nutritious meals to children and help establish positive eating habits at the earliest stages of development. Research indicates that the CACFP is an indicator of quality child care. Children that are cared for by providers participating in the CACFP benefit by being fed nutritious, USDA regulated meals that ensure their proper development. These children gain from early nutrition education that helps them establish positive eating habits that will enrich the quality of their diet throughout their life. Child care providers receive nutrition education and support services from their CACFP sponsors who help them serve nutritious meals and create a positive eating environment for children. The quality of child care provided in our community is improved due to educational and financial resources available to caregivers through the CACFP.

Over 115,000 family child care providers working with 800 sponsors use CACFP to provide children with high quality nutrition and learning experiences.

Thousands of people work daily, and tirelessly, to make sure children in America are getting access to healthy foods on a regular basis. Annually, with National CACFP Week, we celebrate their passion and commitment while also raising awareness of the food program. During National CACFP Week, March 12-18, 2017, the National CACFP Sponsors Association (NCA) encourages communities to come together to learn and acknowledge the many ways our next best generation benefits from the work and dedication of CACFP professionals and the program itself. We know that when we all join forces and work together the message we provide is stronger and will receive more attention. To celebrate CACFP in your community this year, get a tool-kit and free resources at www.cacfp.org.

Since 1986 the National CACFP Sponsor Association (NCA) is the leading national organization for sponsors who administer the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We provide education and support to thousands of members in the CACFP community and in particular to sponsors of all sizes from across the country. We strive to improve communication between families, care givers, sponsors, and their supervising government agencies.

NJ Senate Judiciary Stops Public Testimony Against Judicial Nominees, Family Civil Liberties Union Objects

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 3, 2017

The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee announced yesterday that two Gubernatorial Nominees will be interviewed on February 6, 2017 but will not permit citizens to make oral argument which has been a customary long standing process.  The nominees were previously deferred and are now not eligible for tenure but can be appointed back to the bench.

The Family Civil Liberties Union (“FCLU”) objects to the Senate Judiciary Committee stopping public testimony and notified Nicholas P. Scutari, Chairman of the Committee in a letter objecting to the decision.  The FCLU has requested the Chairman to reconsider his decision and permit victims who have not previously come forward to testify.

When asked to comment on the decision to prevent more victims from testifying, Greg Roberts, President and Founder of the FCLU stated, “When our legislators prevent victims from coming forward and giving public testimony against judicial nominees, fundamentally, it appears that our three branch system of checks and balances has failed.  Certainly, the public is being sent a message that the legislature is supporting and protecting the judges rather than performing its duty of due process to protect New Jersey citizens.”

Two members of the FCLU claim that they have repeatedly contacted two Morris County Senators Anthony R. Bucco (R-Dist. 25) and Joseph Pennacchio (R-Dist.26) who have and continue to support the judicial nomination of Philip j. Maenza but refuse to meet with victims or accept evidence of judicial misconduct by Maenza when he was on the bench serving a family part judge in the Morris Vicinage.

Previously on December 12, 2016, six witnesses testified before the committee in opposition to the re-nomination including four litigants, a litigant’s fourteen year-old daughter and a litigant’s elderly mother.

The FCLU encourages all litigant’s and their families who believe they are victims of Judge Philip J. Maenza to e-mail Senator Nicholas P. Scutari, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee at senscutari@njleg.org.  The FCLU can also be contacted at fclu.org.

Small towns across the country are organizing for human rights.

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 2, 2017

On Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. EST Americans will take to the streets to show support for refugees and immigrants around the world, especially those individuals and families who have been so callously and irreparably harmed by recent changes in U.S. immigration policy.

Through a collective effort, this action is centered on the following Mission: We march to demonstrate the courage of loving-kindness and to welcome the stranger in need.  The dreams of immigrants are the American dream.

There’s nothing more important than building solidarity and community in our small towns, where conversations can be had and real change can be made. Our sidewalks are our bridges.

    Kara Vaneck

The past election cycle has shown a desperate lack of humane values and genuine leadership: Americans are being divided into camps, left-versus-right, urban-versus-rural, as if these distinctions were not based on generalizations. We seek to prove that the same values which motivated action at airports and in city centers can be found throughout America, from sea to shining sea.

We believe that by showing our support for those who are most vulnerable – and showing our own sincere desires for peace, love, and understanding through peaceful demonstration – we can do as Pope Francis himself challenged all people to do and build bridges rather than walls.

Therefore, around these ideas regular Americans are already organizing in the following cities and towns:

    Buckhannon, WV

    Fairmont, WV

    Clarksburg, WV

    Morgantown, WV

    Weston, WV

    Hanover, NH

    Caledonia, NY

    Syracuse, NY

    Naples, FL

    Puyallup, WA

We will help anyone, anywhere who wishes to march peacefully with us and the vulnerable of the world.

Workers Serve State of California with Lawsuit To Have Piece Rate Immunity Bill, California AB1513, Declared Unconstitutional

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 23, 2017

Piece Rate workers who have had their wages stolen from them by the passage of California Assembly Bill 1513, legislation which included an immunity provision for employers who failed to pay piece rate workers their full wages, today served their Federal Lawsuit on the State of California according to the Law Firm of Mallison & Martinez.  The action demands that the Federal Court declare the immunity provisions of that statute unconstitutional. According to legal filings, the immunity provision of AB1513 constitutes an unconstitutional taking of vested wages as well as an interference with vested contractual rights of workers.

The complaint asserts that AB1513 purports to take at least one billion dollars in wages and other vested property from piece rate workers by the 2,300 employers who have participated in the State’s unconstitutional immunity program.  These wages were taken from  piece rate workers (largely farmworkers) and given to employers evidently as a gift to big business owners.

This appears to be a gift of at least a billion dollars of workers’ money to business owners – a travesty in direct violation of the constitution. We’ll do everything in our power to make sure that this unconstitutional taking from workers is overturned.

Stan Mallison, Partner at Mallison & Martinez

Stan Mallison, Counsel for plaintiffs, stated that “this appears to be a gift of at least a billion dollars of workers’ money to business owners  – a travesty in direct violation of the constitution.  We’ll do everything in our power to make sure that this unconstitutional taking from workers is overturned.”

Connected to India will be covering the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 in Bengaluru, India

    Press Release

    Jan 5, 2017

Connected to India (CtoI), Singapore headquartered online media company will be on ground in Bengaluru to provide extensive coverage of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2017. PBD is celebrated every year in India to acknowledge the efforts made by the overseas Indian community to contribute to the betterment and development of their homeland.

Convention is held around January 9 every year. January 9th being the key date; when Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa in the year 1915. PBD 2017 will be held between January 7 to 9 with the state of Karnataka playing host to the 14th edition of the convention.

Connected to India (CtoI) is a Singapore based online media company that will be covering Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2017. CtoI team actively covers developments and news around Non Resident Indians (NRIs).

Connected to India was formed towards the end of 2016 to cover developments around Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and people of Indian origin worldwide. Indian diaspora has been making a big impact in the countries of their residence contributing in areas like science, business, economics, sports, social enterprise, politics, and entertainment. There is no dedicated platform that highlights accomplishments of Indians abroad, nor support issues they might be facing in their resident-country. Connected to India will fill this existing lacunae in the media space.

“We have covered the phenomenal successes made by Indian diaspora in the last two months. Five significant political victories by Indian Americans during the US elections clearly being the highlight. Currently focused on Singapore, US, UK and Dubai we will continue to increase our coverage of NRI news from across the world,” said, Himanshu Verma, Founder and CEO, Connected to India

“In line with our vision of becoming the largest provider of contextual-content to NRIs and Indian diaspora in the world we will be covering the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017. It is a wonderful platform but in our engagement with NRIs across the world, we found out that there is low awareness about PBD among NRIs. A team of our writers has been doing curtain raiser stories around PBD and will be covering the convention itself across three days from Bengaluru,” Himanshu added.

PBD is a sponsored by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Development of North-East India. The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of chief guest and Prime Minister of Portugal Dr. Antonio Costa, who is also of Indian origin. The opening day of the convention will be inaugurated by Gen V.K. Singh (retd), Minister of State for External Affairs along with Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka.

The programme includes a forum that concerns itself with Indian Diaspora followed by an award ceremony to commemorate the achievements of Indians away from their homeland. This year, the event is themed around ‘Redefined Engagement with Indian Diaspora’.

About 31.2 million Indians are spread globally, of which 13.4 million are Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and 17 million Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

The event that will be attended by 4,000 delegates has some new features. In addition to the dignitaries speaking at the convention, there are optional visits for delegates to factories around Bangalore, opportunities for business to business and business to government meetings and exhibitions.

“As a delegate, I have used the B2B meetings platform. It has worked very smoothly and I am very happy with the kind of meetings I have been able to fix during the convention.” talking about PBD’s self-serve meetings platform, said Himanshu.

An exhibition is also organised at PBD showcasing the government’s flagship programs, opportunities across many states of India, corporate and public sector undertakings and Indian handicraft. The experience will be doubled up with Royal Chariot sightseeing tours.

After a nine-month examination, MJP co-publishes with Life of the Law its multi-part investigation of Miller’s case, which includes a podcast—available in English and French—that delves into the infant’s short life; two in-depth articles that explore experts’ opinions on alternative explanations for her death and examine the use of demeanor to assess if someone is culpable of a crime; and a video that reveals the impact on Miller’s family and friends in the wake of the tragedy. The stories can be accessed via Life of the Law’s website at www.lifeofthelaw.org or via MJP’s website at www.medilljusticeproject.org.

Since 2012, MJP has been probing shaken-baby syndrome, creating the world’s largest publicly available database of cases, uncovering evidence that played a role in a federal judge’s decision to free from prison a Chicago-area woman and partnering with The Washington Post on a two-part series published on page one of the newspaper. Its reporting on the subject has been honored with an IRE Award, a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a Sigma Delta Chi Award, among others.

America’s Top Mother/Daughter Matchmakers Janis Spindel and Carly Spindel Go Global By Curating Well Educated Millionaire Women from China with High Net Worth American Men

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 20, 2016

Elite Matchmakers Janis Spindel and Carly Spindel of Janis Spindel Serious Matchmaking, expand their matchmaking services to develop a newly created market – introducing American men to well educated millionaire upscale Chinese women.

In China, there are hundreds of smart, successful, wealthy, gorgeous women who want to fall in love and meet the man of their dreams. It’s not happening for them in China, so with the help of Janis Spindel and Carly Spindel, these highly educated wealthy elite women will be coming to America for a weekend to meet a successful marriage minded Western man.

If you give the client beauty — and brains and athletic abilities, if he wants those — it’s pretty much a done deal.

    Janis Spindel, CEO and Founder

“The challenge will be attracting western men interested in eastern women. It’s stepping out of the box and changing up the dating rules,” quotes Carly Spindel.

From Friday night until Sunday night, these women will be part of a dating boot camp. Instead of one-on-one matchmaking for these women, Janis Spindel and Carly Spindel will be curating upscale dinner parties for these wealthy elite Chinese women to mix and mingle with attractive, successful, wealthy and ambitious American men.

They will be taught Western customs and the American way of dating. Their weekend will consist of two dinner parties, one each night, and a full day of lectures, provided by Janis Spindel and Carly Spindel, to teach them how to meet the American man of their dreams.
