  • Kim Kardashian invited to NASA launch after moon landing conspiracy claims – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

The U.S. space agency NASA is rejecting conspiracy claims by Kim Kardashian that the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landings did not happen.

In the most recent episode of her family’s hit reality show, The Kardashians, Kardashian says she thinks the pivotal lunar expedition was a hoax, citing a series of articles that, she claims, explain why some aspects of the footage and photographs taken on the moon are unreliable.

Shortly after the episode aired, NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy rebuked Kardashian, writing to her in a post on X, “Yes, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!”

    Story continues below advertisement

Kardashian responded to his post, saying, “Wait…. what’s the tea on 3I Atlas?!?!!!!!!!?????,” an interstellar comet, which, according to astronomers, is the third-ever object from outside our solar system to pass through our “celestial neighbourhood.”

Duffy replied with an invitation to the launch of NASA’s Artemis mission to the moon at Kennedy Space Center.

“We love your excitement about our Artemis mission to the Moon. You’re officially invited to launch at Kennedy Space Center!” he wrote.

Conspiracy theories that the moon landings did not take place have existed for decades, despite being consistently debunked.

In the episode, Kardashian can be seen showing actor Sarah Paulson — with whom she is co-starring in the upcoming Ryan Murphy legal drama “All’s Fair” — a quote from an interview with Buzz Aldrin, who, along with Neil Armstrong, took the first steps on the moon.

“There was no scary moment because it didn’t happen. It could’ve been scary, but it wasn’t because it didn’t happen,” she reads, “he says it all the time in interviews,” she added, “maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin.”

Kardashian was referring to a comment Aldrin made during a 2015 talk at the Oxford University Students’ Union, when he responded to a student’s question about the Apollo 11 mission.

“What was the scariest moment of the journey?” the student asked.

“Scariest? It didn’t happen,” Aldrin answered, smiling. “It could’ve been scary. Circuit breaker,” he says, before the moderator asks: “The circuit breaker on the [indecipherable]?”

“I’m glad somebody helps me,” Aldrin said, before continuing. “We came back inside after kicking up dust and picking up some rocks and of course, we had to send them up the ladder because that would be hazardous, carrying a big rock box up the ladder.”

He said the crew and team had thought of that plan ahead of time, and that Aldrin got into the cabin first so that his colleagues could hand the rock box up to him.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Then we were supposed to tidy up and tidy up means get rid of stuff you don’t need so we won’t be as heavy to lift off,” he said, describing the process of pressurizing and depressurizing the cabin and hooking up to the spacecraft system, and how crews back on the ground said they could hear the crew through the seismographer that recorded the vibrations of sounds “bouncing around on the moon.”

He then described how the crew settled back into the cabin, and noticed something in the dust of the rocks they had been collecting.

“There was something that didn’t look like it belonged there. It was a circuit breaker — a broken circuit breaker, the end of it,” he said.

“Engine arm,” Aldrin added the label on the breaker said, which was for the system used for the landing engine. “That’s the one that gets us back in orbit and gets us home.”

He then said he “used a pen to push it in,” and then called it a “piece of cake.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Later, during a scene back in her trailer, Kardashian tells a crew member behind the camera, “I centre conspiracies all the time,” before elaborating on her disbelief, saying that no stars are visible in any of the photographic evidence captured from the landing — a popular argument from skeptics, according to the Institute of Physics.

There is a simple explanation for the lack of stars, the institute says: the photos were taken during the day.

“This meant starlight lost the battle against the very bright surface of the Moon, too dim to show up in photos,” its website says.

According to the institute, every conspiracy theory claiming that the moon landings were fake has been disproven.

Often, the expert organization argues, those who claim the landings were staged say the U.S. government faked Apollo 11 and later missions to deal a crucial blow to the USSR in the Space Race, boost NASA funding or divert attention away from the Vietnam War.

  • Rescue cat spends 2 years in shelter—finally gets second chance

    [ad_1]

A cat who only knew life in the shelter and didn’t receive any interest for two years has finally been granted a second chance after finding her forever home.

Tabby was found abandoned when she was just a kitten, and she was taken to Almost Home Animal Rescue in Long Island. Unfortunately, that was where Tabby would remain for the next two years, barely getting to experience anything outside of her kennel.

In May 2020, Tabby caught the eye of Rachel Volpicello, 26, who was determined to find a new friend for her rescue cat, Piper. At first, Volpicello thought she’d foster a cat to see if they’d get along, but as soon as she heard about what Tabby had gone through, she told Newsweek that she knew “almost immediately” that Tabby would be hers forever.

Volpicello, of New York City, rescued Piper in April 2020, and one month later, she returned to the same shelter to provide Tabby the second chance she deserved.

“I didn’t have any cat in mind before returning to the shelter, I just asked the volunteers if there was a cat who hadn’t had a chance yet,” Volpicello said. “They said Tabby hadn’t left the shelter in two years, and that no one had even considered fostering or adopting her.

“She’s very shy and has a foggy eye due to feline herpes, so that might have strayed people away. I was in and out of the shelter in five minutes because I knew she was the one.”

From the beginning, it was clear that all Tabby wanted was to be loved. She was shy at first and spent several days hiding behind the couch, refusing to come out while anyone was in the room. But throughout it all, she was never aggressive.

Volpicello was patient, even setting up a camera so she could give her space and check on her from a distance. Tabby spent so long at the shelter and was frequently overlooked, so Volpicello knew it would take time to adjust.

Eventually, Volpicello caught Tabby and Piper reaching their paws under the door, and it seemed right to introduce them.

“Tabby got more comfortable after meeting Piper. I think Piper gave Tabby the confidence to not hide behind the couch. She started to trust me more and even started getting jealous when I was petting Piper,” Volpicello said.

She continued: “Tabby is the sweetest cat in the world. She’s a huge cuddle bug and follows me into my bed every night. Piper and Tabby love each other so much. Tabby snuggles up to Piper every chance she gets, even laying on top of Piper and wrapping both arms around her.”

Since both cats were adopted, Volpicello told Newsweek that she’s loved “seeing their bond grow” over the years. Tabby has come so far out of her shell, and Piper has the sister she’s always wanted.

Volpicello shared Tabby’s rescue story on TikTok (@rachelvolpicello) in a post showing how much her life has been transformed. The post went viral with over 698,800 views and more than 154,000 likes at the time of writing.

She hopes that Tabby’s story will inspire others to take a chance on a rescue pet in need and give them the loving home they deserve.

“I’ve always wondered if they crossed paths when they were in the shelter together, but either way it’s clear they were meant to find each other,” Volpicello said. “A lot of people have been thanking me for giving Tabby a fresh start, but I’m the one thanking Tabby for trusting me. I’m so lucky to have her. As much as I saved her, she saved me.”

Tabby’s rescue journey has captured so much attention online, leading to more than 1,900 comments on the TikTok post.

One comment reads: “They’re perfect together.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “She looks so proud to be yours.”

While one person replied: “You brought the life back into that sweet baby’s eyes.”

  • Kenny Loggins demands Trump remove his song from AI ‘poop’ video – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Kenny Loggins is speaking out against U.S. President Donald Trump using his song Danger Zone in an AI video posted to his Truth Social account in response to the “No Kings” protests over the weekend.

In a statement shared with Variety on Monday, Loggins, 77, demanded that his song be removed from the AI video showing Trump in a fighter jet dropping what appears to be fecal matter on “No Kings” protesters.

    Story continues below advertisement

“This is an unauthorized use of my performance of Danger Zone. Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately,” Loggins said in the statement.

“I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us. Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together,” Loggins continued.

“We’re all Americans, and we’re all patriotic. There is no ‘us and them’ — that’s not who we are, nor is it what we should be. It’s all of us. We’re in this together.”

Loggins said that he hopes “we can embrace music as a way of celebrating and uniting each and every one of us.”

The Loggins song featured in the AI video was famously used in the 1986 Top Gun film, which is what the AI video appears to be paying homage to.

In response to a request for comment on the video, a representative for the White House reportedly sent Variety a Top Gun meme that read: “I feel the need for speed.”

Millions of people marched and rallied in cities across the U.S. on Saturday for “No Kings” demonstrations, decrying what participants see as the government’s swift drift into authoritarianism under Trump.

    Story continues below advertisement

People carrying signs with slogans such as “Nothing is more patriotic than protesting” or “Resist Fascism” packed New York City’s Times Square and rallied by the thousands in parks in Boston, Atlanta and Chicago.

Demonstrators marched through Washington and downtown Los Angeles and picketed outside capitols in several Republican-led states, a courthouse in Billings, Mont., and at hundreds of smaller public spaces.

The official White House account on X reacted to “No Kings” day by sharing an image of Trump and U.S. Vice-President JD Vance wearing crowns above an image of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Chuck Schumer wearing sombreros.

    Story continues below advertisement

“We’re built different. Have a good night, everyone. 👑,” the caption read.

Trump, meanwhile, was spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

“They say they’re referring to me as a king. I’m not a king,” the president said in a Fox News interview that aired early Friday.

‘No Kings’ protests aimed at Trump call for end to authoritarian rule

Trump’s Republican Party disparaged the demonstrations as “Hate America” rallies, including U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The “No Kings” coalition responded to Johnson’s comments, referring to the protest as the “Hate America rally” and blaming it for “the ongoing government shutdown.”

“Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down. Instead of reopening the government, preserving affordable healthcare, or lowering costs for working families, he’s attacking millions of Americans who are peacefully coming together to say that America belongs to its people, not to kings,” the group said, adding that they will “see everyone on October 18.”

    Story continues below advertisement

The “No Kings” protests first took place in hundreds of American cities on June 14 during a military parade in Washington that marked the U.S. army’s 250th anniversary, which coincided with Trump’s birthday.

The protests were held to counter what organizers said were Trump’s plans to feed his ego on his 79th birthday (which was also Flag Day). The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement — which stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement — and is made up of members of the American public who say they stand for democracy and against what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration.

Protesters have called for Trump to be “dethroned,” as they compare his actions to those of a king and not a democratically elected president.

“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services,” the group says on its website, referring to the Trump administration and its policies. “They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.”

  • Zach Bryan responds to backlash over ICE lyrics in song ‘Bad News’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Country music star Zach Bryan is responding to criticism over his upcoming new song Bad News following claims that it includes lyrics that appear critical of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

Bryan, 29, shared a snippet of the song on Instagram Friday, which caused many people, including White House officials, to call him out for apparently taking aim at immigration raids.

In the song, Bryan sings: “I hear the cops came, cocky motherf—–s, ain’t they? And ICE is gonna come bust down your door, try to build a house, no bills no more, but I got a telephone, kids are all scared and all alone.”

“The bar stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling, the middle fingers rising, and it won’t stop showing. Got some bad news. The fading of the red, white and blue,” the song continued.

    Story continues below advertisement

Bryan repeated the lyrics in the caption.

In a post on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Bryan, who served in the U.S. navy, said he wrote Bad News months ago and claimed the song is about “how much I love the country and everyone in it more than anything.”

“When you hear the rest of the song, you will understand the full context that hits on both sides of the aisle,” he wrote. “Everyone using this now as a weapon is only proving how devastatingly divided we all are. We need to find our way back.

“I served this country, I love this country and the song itself is about all of us coming out of this divided space. I wasn’t speaking as a politician or some greater-than-thou a–hole, just a 29-year-old man who is just as confused as everyone else.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Bryan said to see “how much s— stirred up makes me not only embarrassed but kind of scared.”

“Left wing or right wing we’re all one bird and American. To be clear I’m on neither of those radical sides. To all those disappointed in me on either side of whatever you believe in just know I’m trying my best too and we all say things that are misconstrued sometimes,” he wrote.

“Everyone have a great day and I love each and every one of ya!!!”

In another Story posted to Instagram, Bryan said that the last few months of his life, he’s “been scrutinized by more people than I ever thought possible.”

“I feel like I’ve tried my hardest in so many ways and it’s so hard to see where my bearings even are anymore. Been falling off a cliff while trying to grow wings at the same time,” he wrote.

Bryan said he’s “SO proud” to have served “in a country where we can all speak freely and converse amongst each other without getting doxxed or accosted on the internet or worse; the violence and heartbreak we’ve faced in the last few months.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem criticized the unreleased song during an appearance on The Benny Johnson Show, saying she hopes the country singer “understands how completely disrespectful that song is, not just to law enforcement but to this country, to every individual that has ever stood up and fought for our freedoms.”

    Story continues below advertisement

“He just compromised it all by putting out a product such as that, that attacks individuals who are just trying to make our streets safe. So, Zach, I didn’t listen to your music. I’m happy about that today. Today, that makes me very happy, that I never once gave you a single penny to enrich your lifestyle if you truly believe what that song stands for,” Noem added.

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said that Bryan should “stick to Pink Skies, dude,” making reference to one of his songs released in 2024.

In a statement to Newsweek, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, “While Zach Bryan wants to Open The Gates to criminal illegal aliens and has Condemned heroic ICE officers, Something in the Orange tells me a majority of Americans disagree with him and support President Trump’s great American Revival. Godspeed, Zach!”

    Story continues below advertisement

Homeland Security posted a video of ICE operations, using Bryan’s song All Night Revival in a post on X after he shared the snippet of his song.

The video shows ICE officials entering communities, arresting people and taking them into custody, with the caption, “We’re having an All Night Revival.”

  • Robin Williams’ daughter slams those ‘puppeteering’ him with AI online – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, has asked the public to stop “puppeteering” and sending her AI-generated videos of her late father, who died by suicide in 2014.

“Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad,” Zelda, 36, posted on her Instagram story on Monday.

“Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on,” she wrote.

American actress, director, producer and writer Zelda Williams arrives at the 21st Annual Unforgettable Gala Asian American Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 16, 2023 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Xavier Collin / Image Press Agency/ABACAPRESS.COM

“But please, if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want,” the post continued.

    Story continues below advertisement

It is not the first time Zelda, an actor and filmmaker who directed the 2024 horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, has spoken out against the creation of AI content featuring her father.

In an Instagram post from 2023, she stated that attempting to recreate his voice and likeness using AI was “personally disturbing,” according to the BBC.

Williams, who was 63 when he died, was famous for starring in films such as Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting and Good Morning, Vietnam, but Zelda says regurgitated digital content is an insult to his legacy.

“To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough’, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening,” she wrote.

“TikTok slop” is a term used to describe low-quality content generated using artificial intelligence that is often circulated on social media.

    Story continues below advertisement

“You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross,” she continued.

Williams was reportedly struggling with mental health issues around the time of his death.

Zelda’s comments follow a controversy surrounding the introduction of an AI actor called Tilly Norwood.

Norwood is a character created entirely by artificial intelligence, dubbed Hollywood’s first “AI actor” by her creator, producer, and comedian, Eline Van der Velden, who has expressed her intentions to sign Norwood to a talent agency.

    Story continues below advertisement

Tilly’s introduction has sparked concern in the film industry.

In a statement Tuesday, the Screen Actors Guild said that “creativity is, and should remain, human-centered.”

“To be clear, ‘Tilly Norwood’ is not an actor, it’s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation,” the guild said.

“It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience.”

In a post on Nowrood’s Instagram account, her creators wrote, “to those who have expressed anger over the creation of our AI character, Tilly Norwood: she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work, a piece of art. Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity.

Emily Blunt spoke about Norwood during an episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, referring to the idea of an AI actor as “terrifying.”

“Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is,” Blunt said.

  • Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated ‘actor,’ faces Hollywood, celebrity backlash – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Hollywood is facing a new kind of star power with “AI actor” Tilly Norwood, who doesn’t exist outside of code — and she’s already negotiating with talent agencies.

Norwood is a character made entirely by artificial intelligence, dubbed Hollywood’s first “AI actor.” She is the product of a company named Xicoia, which bills itself as the world’s first artificial intelligence talent studio.

Since Dutch producer and comedian Eline Van der Velden launched the digital character’s prospective career, Norwood has been the talk of Hollywood.

Earlier this month, Van der Velden, founder of the AI production studio Particle6, promoted Norwood at the Zurich Summit, the industry sidebar of the Zurich Film Festival. She said Norwood was in talks with talent agencies and that she expected to announce a signing soon.

“We were in a lot of boardrooms around February time, and everyone was like, ‘No, this is nothing. It’s not going to happen.’ Then, by May, people were like, ‘We need to do something with you guys,” Van der Velden told Deadline’s Diana Lodderhose.

    Story continues below advertisement

“When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’ and now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”

But not everyone is excited about Norwood potentially signing with a talent agency.

“Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this , drop their a$$,” In The Heights actor Melissa Barrera wrote on her Instagram Stories. “How gross, read the room.”

“Any talent agency that engages in this should be boycotted by all guilds. Deeply misguided & totally disturbed,” Natasha Lyonne wrote on Instagram.

Emily Blunt spoke about Norwood during an episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, referring to the idea of an AI actor as “terrifying.”

“Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is,” Blunt said.

When Blunt was shown a photo of Norwood, she said, “No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary. Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.”

Blunt also suggested that Norwood’s creators want her to be “the next Scarlett Johansson.”

“But we have Scarlett Johansson,” she added.

Whoopi Goldberg opened up about her thoughts on Norwood during Monday’s episode of The View.

“The problem with this, in my humble opinion, is that you’re up against something that’s been generated with 5,000 other actors. It’s been given all of these — it’s got Bette Davis’s attitude … it’s got my humour,” she began.

“It’s a little bit of an unfair advantage. But you know what? Bring it on,” Goldberg said. “Because you can always tell them from us.”

In response to the backlash, Van der Velden shared a statement on Norwood’s Instagram, writing, “To those who have expressed anger over the creation of our AI character, Tilly Norwood: she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art.”

“Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity,” Van der Velden continued. “I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool – a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories.”

Van der Velden, who is also an actor, said that nothing can take away “the craft or joy of human performance.”

“Creating Tilly has been, for me, an act of imagination and craftsmanship, not unlike drawing a character, writing a role or shaping performance. It takes time, skill, and iteration to bring such a character to life,” she wrote. “She represents experimentation, not substitution. Much of my work has always been about holding up a mirror to society through satire, and this is no different.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Van der Velden said she believes that AI characters should be judged as part of their own genre and on their own merits rather than compared directly with “human actors.”

“Each form of art has its place, and each can be valued for what it uniquely brings. I hope we can welcome AI as part of the wider artistic family: one more way to express ourselves, alongside theatre, film, painting, music, and countless others,” she wrote. “When we celebrate all forms of creativity, we open doors to new voices, new stories, and new ways of connecting with each other.”

Artificial intelligence is often used as a tool in film production, though its implementation is hotly debated. It was a major bargaining point in the lengthy strike by SAG-AFTRA that concluded in late 2023, with some safeguards put in place to protect the use of actors’ likenesses and performances by AI.

    [ad_1]

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the One805Live! concert benefiting first responders in Santa Barbara over the weekend.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, and Duchess of Sussex, 44, attended the benefit on Sept. 20 at actor Kevin Costner’s oceanside estate in California, which raises funds for essential equipment and mental wellness programs for Santa Barbara County’s first responders.

This year’s benefit featured performances by Trisha Yearwood, Good Charlotte, The Fray, Alan Parsons, Thelma Houston and more.

Markle joined her husband onstage briefly and then returned to watch him from the side of the stage as Harry presented an award to Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig. She was wearing a Carolina Herrera sleeveless midnight blue shirtdress with a cinched waist and caramel brown pumps.

During an exclusive interview with The Guardian, Harry said he would like to bring his American-born children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, whom he shares with his wife Markle, to his home country.

“Yes, I would. This week has definitely brought that closer,” he told the British outlet on an overnight train to Kyiv after a short trip to the U.K.

  • Woman defies aging fear-mongering by sharing 72 is her “favorite year yet”

    [ad_1]

A 72-year-old woman has gone viral on TikTok after declaring this stage of life her “favorite yet,” delighting viewers with a video that challenges the negative stereotypes around aging gaining traction online.

The clip, shared on September 2 by fashion designer and artist Sigrid Olsen (@beachtobistro), has been viewed more than 996,000 times. It shows Olsen in an aspirational setting aboard a boat, dressed in breezy coastal clothing, surrounded by fresh food and tranquil scenery.

“For all the fear-mongering around aging, I never imagined 72 would be my favorite year yet, and yet, here I am,” an overlaid text read. Her show of pride has been applauded by viewers online; some of whom shared they are used to seeing people as young as 30 being shamed for their age on the platform. Olsen has offered them a fresh perspective.

Olsen, a mother of two, grandmother of three, and stepmother to what she calls “countless more,” told Newsweek she is living life on her own terms. Based in Palmetto, Florida, she spends summers with her partner Mark on their 48-foot offshore yacht in New England.

Sigrid Olsen drinks on her yacht (L); and reads on the deck (R).

    @beachtobistro / @sigridolsen_design

Her career, too, has evolved. After more than 40 years in fashion, Olsen relaunched her self-titled brand independently five years ago.

“All my prints and embroideries are created by me, with pen, brush or block-print, and translated onto fabric by artisans in India,” she said.

She also teaches yoga, leads women’s retreats, and hosts weekly online sharing circles. Olsen credits much of her personal and professional flexibility to her small team at home.

“I would not be able to do this if my business at home was not so well managed by two young ladies, Kelly G. and Jessie S.,” she told Newsweek. “Kelly has revitalized my social media and improved our website exponentially…We are a team, where I film content from my travels and she creates wonderful videos to post on to all my social media outlets, especially to our growing audience on TikTok.”

The enthusiastic reaction to her post, she said, is proof of how badly “positive messaging” around enjoying life in older age is needed.

“We need to hear the true story of what it means to age with grace and gratitude,” she said.

    Redefining Aging

Olsen believes her story resonates because it offers a counterpoint to what she sees as harmful media narratives.

Beauty standards have always been unrealistic in the media, but now we are faced with performative imagery at any given moment that creates anxiety and fosters unkind comparisons,” she said. “It is hard for women these days to feel good about themselves, especially as they age.”

Her mission, she explained, is to encourage “individuality, creativity, healthy living and a connection to nature” for people of all ages.

Older women, she argues, bring something essential to the table that is often overlooked.

“We have hard won wisdom, more self-awareness, heightened compassion, less envy and more sisterhood,” she said. “And life can be filled with a sense of wonder, self-love and quiet satisfaction.”

With her viral clips and career revival, Olsen has reminded thousands of younger viewers online that aging does not have to mean fading away—it can mean stepping into a new, vibrant chapter instead.

  • Man crowned “dog dad of the year” for his method of washing muddy dog

    [ad_1]

Many dog owners know just how difficult it can be to wash a pup—especially when they loathe water—but internet users are obsessed with one man’s ingenious way of getting his canine to shower.

Upon returning home from a camping trip, dog owners Treasure Azuara, 27, and Osmin Azuara, 29, knew they had their work cut out trying to clean their Doberman pincher named Buddah. Treasure, who resides in Utah, told Newsweek that Buddah was “full of mud,” and was in desperate need of a thorough cleanse.

If only getting him to have a bath was quick and simple.

Unfortunately for the couple, Buddah hates baths, showers, and just water in general. The only kind he finds mildly acceptable is the water he drinks—and even that is a stretch.

From left: Osmin Azuara stands in the shower and holds Buddah to wash him off.

    @treasuregrill / TikTok

So, Osmin had to get creative in order to clean all the mud off Buddah.

Indeed, rather than making the dog wash by himself, Osmin stood under the shower head and had to hold Buddah in his arms the entire time. The Doberman pincher certainly didn’t look too pleased about it, but at least he could cling onto his dad while washing off.

“When I walked into the bathroom as I saw them in the shower, I immediately thought to myself, ‘What a good dad.’ I knew I taught him well,” Treasure said.

After seeing how her husband was ridding Buddah of all the mud in his fur, Treasure couldn’t resist capturing a video and sharing it on TikTok (@treasuregrill). Since the clip was posted on September 2, it has gone viral with over 2.7 million views and more than 434,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Writing in the TikTok caption, Treasure joked that she “gasped” when she saw her husband’s unconventional method. Nonetheless, social-media users can’t get enough and they have hailed Osmin’s commitment as a dog dad.

“This is now the way Osmin showers Buddah every time he needs a wash,” Treasure continued.

There is no doubting how much Buddah trusts his human, and this moment was adorable proof of that. In fact, the dog loves to wait by the door for Osmin to return home every day, and always gets so excited when he finally arrives.

The couple, who moved to Utah earlier this year, brought Buddah home shortly after moving in. A Doberman has always been Treasure’s idea of “a dream dog,” and Buddah has finally made that a reality.

In just a matter of days, the TikTok video has generated over 2,000 comments as internet users lauded Osmin’s dog-washing hack.

One comment reads: “Don’t tell my Doberman this is an option.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “The most Doberman thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

A third person replied: “Dog dad of the year.”

One commenter posted: “Great. Now my Great Dane is asking me why I don’t love him that much.”

  • New Offers for Chase Ink Business Cash/Unlimited Cards: Earn 90K Points (Now Available Through Referrals)

    [ad_1]

90K Offers for Chase Ink Cash/Unlimited Cards

90K Offers for Chase Ink Cash/Unlimited Cards

🔃 Update: The offers are now showing through referrals as well. You can share your referrals in our Facebook Group.

Chase has launched two increased welcome bonuses for Ink Business credit cards. You can now earn $900 or 90,000 Ultimate Rewards points when you apply and are approved for a new Chase Ink Business Cash or Chase Ink Business Unlimited credit card. The offers are not yet available through referrals yet, as those links are still showing a 75K bonus. Let’s go over the details.

    Offer Details

The offer is identical for the Chase Ink Business Cash and Chase Ink Business Unlimited credit card:

    • Earn $900
Bonus Cash Back after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first 3 months after account opening.
    • 0% fixed Intro APR for the first 12 months.
    • No Annual Fee
    • OFFER LINK

    Guru’s Wrap-up

$900 is the best ever bonus offered for these two credit cards. This is actually a bonus of 90,000 Ultimate Rewards, if you also hold a Sapphire PreferredSapphire Reserve, Sapphire Reserve for Business or Ink Business Preferred credit card. That’s easily worth $1,350 or more.

Both Chase Ink Business Cash and Chase Ink Business Unlimited credit cards comes with no annual fee. Ink Cash earns 5X on select categories such as office supply stores, white Ink Unlimited earns 1.5X on all purchases.

It’s worth noting that the offer is not available through referral links. Referrals are showing the 75K bonus. But if you want to apply right away, that could be the better play as you get a total of 95K points. If go that route you can also try asking for a match to the 90K bonus which would then yield a total of 110K points.

But if you can wait, then we should probably see the 90K offer pop up through referrals as well. Just don’t wait too long because there’s a major negative change coming to Chase business card referrals after October 7th.

If you recently applied for the 75K bonus, then you can send e message and ask Chase to match the new offer.

Keep in mind that this card falls under the Chase 5/24 rule which means that lots of readers will not qualify. If you have opened five or more personal credit cards across all banks in the last 24 months, most likely you will not be approved for a new Chase card.

  • Trump threatens to revoke Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship again – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday night that he is still giving “serious thought” to revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship.

Trump reignited the pair’s feud with a post on Truth Social, writing, “As previously mentioned, we are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship.”

“She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so,” he added.

O’Donnell responded to Trump by sharing his post on Instagram with the caption, “Banishing me again? Logan Roy would be proud. I’m the distraction — EPSTEIN SURVIVORS are the reckoning and your gold lamé throne is melting.”

    Story continues below advertisement

In a follow-up post, O’Donnell shared a selfie on Instagram with the caption, “Donnie — stripping my citizenship? Cute — the capital is shaking because Epstein survivors are speaking — I volunteer as tribute… to remind you how terrified you are.”

In another post, O’Donnell shared a clip of her upcoming 60 Minutes Australia episode, which will air on Sept. 7 in the country and address “why Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump can’t stand each other.”

    Story continues below advertisement

O’Donnell went on to share clips on her Instagram Stories from several of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, who participated in a press conference at the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Wednesday, hoping to push for a complete and total release of all the Epstein files. Some even threatened to compile their own “list” of his clients.

“This is a Democrat hoax that never ends,” Trump said Wednesday. “We’ve given thousands of pages of files, and I know that no matter what you do, it’s going to keep going and going.”

He also argued that the effort to get the files released is distracting from his administration’s successes.

“What they’re trying to do with the Epstein hoax is get people to talk about that,” he added. “We’re having the most successful eight months of any president ever, and that’s what I want to talk about. That’s what we should be talking about, not the Epstein hoax.”

Trump made similar comments threatening to revoke O’Donnell’s citizenship in a Truth Social post in July.

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump wrote on July 12.

“She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA.”

O’Donnell responded to Trump and shared his post from Truth Social on her Instagram account, writing, “the president of the usa has always hated the fact that i see him for who he is – a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself.”

“This is why i moved to ireland – he is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy compassion and basic humanity – i stand in direct opposition all he represents – so do millions of others,” she wrote.

“U gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies – ur a bad joke who cant form a coherent sentence,” O’Donnell concluded, adding “#nevertrump.”

In another reply, O’Donnell shared a photo of Trump and Epstein, writing, “hey donald – you’re rattled again? 18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours.”

“You call me a threat to humanity –
but I’m everything you fear:

The posts came after O’Donnell posted a video on TikTok suggesting that Trump was “definitely in a decline.”

O’Donnell went on to ask how Americans “can not every day be worried about what has become of” America.

In March, O’Donnell revealed that she is no longer living in the United States and confirmed that she has moved to Ireland.

“Moved here on January 15 and it’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful,” O’Donnell said.

  • Taylor Swift is in her engagement era. Will it give the economy a boost? – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

The global economy may be trying to get Out Of The Woods, but a celebrity wedding might just be what it needs to Shake It Off after pop star Taylor Swift announced her engagement to two-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce.

The news is spurring hope that it could bring a much-needed boost to retail sales and consumer spending.

Swift’s impact on local economies and retail has long been the subject of study, with one estimate claiming that the singer-songwriter’s 2023 U.S. tour may have generated US$4.6 billion in total consumer spending, larger than the GDP of 35 countries.

A report dubbed Swiftonomics: Eras Tour Impact on Colorado found that Swift’s two shows in July led to a US$140-million boost to the state’s GDP for the year.

Canada, too, was left feeling the Lavender Haze from the performer’s shows here.

Payment processing firm Moneris released data indicating downtown Vancouver saw a 154 per cent increase in spending levels during her Eras Tour in 2024 — a spike not seen since the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the report said.

Clothing stores saw a 923 per cent increase in sales, while sales of cosmetics rose 529 per cent. Variety stores saw a 178 per cent increase in sales volumes.

Swift and Kelce’s engagement has the potential to garner as much attention, if not more, than the Eras Tour, some experts argue.

“Taylor Swift actually broke Instagram for a little bit. Meta put out a report that they had some outages because this was one of the most-liked Instagram posts ever,” said Bree McEwan, a professor at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology.

“You have two very, very involved fandoms who are coming together — more the Swifties than the NFL guys — to celebrate a relationship that they’ve been watching for a while.”

Less than 24 hours after the couple announced their engagement, e-commerce platform Etsy was flooded with Taylor-Travis merchandise.

Images of the couple holding each other, touching foreheads, are emblazoned on T-shirts and sweatshirts selling for as much as $100 on the site.

Other merch includes onesies for babies with the text, “My English teacher and gym teacher are getting married,” a reference to Swift and Kelce’s Instagram caption announcing their engagement.

McEwan said Swift’s fandom — or Swifties, as they like to dub themselves — are particularly suited for a merchandise boom. That’s because of Swift’s proclivity for catchy lyrics and Easter eggs hidden throughout her music and engagement with the public.

“Taylor Swift fans have their own sort of secret language and secret code,” she said.

The 2018 wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle is said to have added 1.05 billion pounds, or US$1.43 billion, to the British economy.

But the impact of individual artists or events on the broader economy might be overstated, said Moshe Lander, economist at Concordia University.

“Taylor Swift is the 21st-century answer to Madonna,” he said.

“We would go crazy when she (Madonna) was releasing her album or when she was making headlines in the tabloids for who she was dating. Did it improve our quality of life? Is the Gen X standard of living better because of the Madonna effect? No, of course not,” he said.

While the impact around a major event could help retail sales in some sectors, it might hurt others.

“They (fans) have to take their disposable income from somewhere else to move it towards the tickets,” he said, citing the example of the Eras Tour shows in Toronto.

For example, someone spending money on Eras Tour tickets or merchandise might choose to delay spending money in other areas, such as on a home renovation or eating out. This is because without the pot growing, most people have the same amount of money to spend on discretionary expenses.

“The economic impact of Taylor Swift might be positive in and around the Rogers Centre. But it’s negative in and around the Eaton Centre,” Lander added.

Swift, Kelce and their marketing team have been careful not to alienate fans who might be feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks, McEwan said.

“This is a depressed economy, and it’s not going to resonate with her fans if she has very over the top and very expensive and very gaudy kinds of choices,” she added.

Economic observers should be wary of overstating the impact, Lander cautioned.

“She is not an economic engine for anything other than herself, as she should be,” he said.

‘We never go out of style’

Whether or not the Swift-Kelce wedding spurs new spending across their fanbase, it can certainly shape retail trends among fans with disposable income who were already predisposed to spending.

“You’re already seeing it with the engagement ring, right? That’s a really unusual cut,” McEwan said.

“If you are currently thinking about engagement rings and wedding dresses, you’re going to see the things that Taylor showcases to her fans,” she added.

A sparkling diamond ring can be seen on Taylor Swift’s finger. According to some reports, it is an old mine brilliant cut designed by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. Swift can be seen wearing a watch to go with the look, with a golden strap and a rectangular white dial, a style that complements her ring.

Montreal-based Chateau D’Ivoire, a high-end jeweller, said its clients have been asking them about similar designs, less than 24 hours after Swift posted a picture of her engagement ring.

“They’ve been talking with me about the size, the cushion cut, the style, the design and how they designed it,” said Rachel Zhang, sales professional at Chateau D’Ivoire.

“She was wearing a vintage Cartier watch, to match her vintage engagement ring, which is stunning. This could be a timeless piece forever,” she said, adding that they’ve also been getting inquiries about watches.

The internet is already abuzz, McEwan said.

“There’s already entire Reddit boards devoted to what this ring is and how much it costs and how can you get a cushion cut like that,” she said.

But most people can’t afford a billionaire’s taste in jewelry.

“Not everyone can afford the kind of luxury that Taylor can afford,” McEwan said.

“What you’ll see is different (cheaper) spinoffs on the trends,” she added.

Etsy sellers are already trying to cash in, with fake-diamond rings that look like Swift’s ring being sold for as little as $300. Even high-end jewellers are trying to cater to different customer bases.

“Not many people will go looking for that big a cut. Taylor is wearing 13 carats. That’s a huge stone. From our experience, people are looking for something around one carat or two carats. Even three carats is rare,” Zhang said.

However, McEwan added that Swifties should temper their expectations about how much the couple may want to broadcast.

“She’s got a huge marketing team behind her and they’re very savvy at thinking through what pieces do they show and what do they not show,” she said, adding that Swift is particularly wary of fans developing parasocial relationships with her.

“She has to manage it very carefully because people can get over-involved,” McEwan added.

The photo slideshow was set to one of Swift’s songs, So High School, from her album The Tortured Poets Department. The song describes the emotions and journey of a high school crush, referencing teenage memories like playing truth or dare and spin the bottle, watching your crush play the video Grand Theft Auto, and watching American Pie together on a Saturday night.

Estate Diamond Jewelry’s Benjamin Khordipour told wedding site Brides that Swift’s ring “was handcrafted in 18k yellow gold and the center diamond is set with needle point prongs that perfectly match the antique style.”

“We estimate the price of her ring to be $550,000,” Khordipour said.

Swift recently shared details about the beginning of her relationship with Kelce in her nearly two-hour appearance on the New Heights podcast.

When Swift was discussing the Eras Tour, Kelce described it as a catalyst for his interest in Swift.

Swift said Kelce tried to meet her during her Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., in July 2023.

She joked that he “threw a man tantrum” when he wasn’t able to give her the friendship bracelet he had for her.

“This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem, that’s what I thought at first,” Swift shared.

But Swift went on to say that Kelce declaring his interest in dating her on his podcast was “wild.”

    Story continues below advertisement

“It was such a wild, romantic gesture to just be like, ‘I want to date you,’” she said.

“That’s what it does when you’re on the stage and you perform in Arrowhead. That’s what it did to me,” Kelce added. “You come to Arrowhead, I get to meet you. That’s the perk of playing for the Chiefs.”

Swift said Kelce planned to meet her during the concert that night.

“You realize he didn’t even reach out to our management. I was like, when this podcast came out, I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be like, in the tents, or did we know he was in the building?” Swift said. “He came with Pat [Patrick Mahomes], and thought that because he knows the elevator lady, that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room.”

The Fortnight singer went on to say that Kelce wanting to date her “felt more like I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?’”

Kelce went on to say he wanted Swift to “just meet me once, just give me a chance.”

“I was like, ‘If this guy’s not crazy, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,’” Swift said.

Swift is about to release her next album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will be released on Oct. 3. She wrapped up the Eras Tour, which covered 149 cities around the world and brought in more than $2 billion in revenue, in Vancouver, B.C., in December 2024.

  • Mom’s make-up keeps disappearing, “shock” as she discovers culprit

    [ad_1]

When mom of two India Collins noticed her favorite makeup products mysteriously disappearing, she wasn’t prepared to discover the unlikely culprit: her toddler.

The 33-year-old mother of two from Mississippi first noticed something was wrong when she couldn’t find her MAC Cosmetics “Chestnut” lipliner. After weeks of missing products, the mystery was solved when she spotted her 2-year-old son sneakily slipping an item into a large decorative vase.

When her husband pulled out the tall decorative sticks from the vase to investigate, the family discovered a hidden stash of makeup carefully collected by their little boy, who clearly had an interest in her cosmetics.

“I was in shock,” Collins told Newsweek. “How long had he been the vase bandit? How did we not notice this was his stash spot? A couple of weeks ago my makeup started going missing. I realized my lipliner was gone and started looking all over the house. Then I saw my son put something in the vase, and when we checked, there was an abundance of my makeup.”

In stitches, Collins decided to share the discovery on TikTok, where the short clip quickly went viral, gaining more than 300,000 views and thousands of amused comments.

Pictures from the video where the mom revealed where her makeup had been missing.

    Internet reacts

The moment struck a chord with fellow parents who know all too well the mischief toddlers can cause.

“I honestly just wanted to let other parents know you’re not alone in the toddler trenches,” Collins said. “And to keep an eye on your makeup! I never thought it would go viral—it was just a funny little video that snowballed into laughter across TikTok.”

In the comments, parents shared their own hilarious toddler moments. “We lost the remote for days—turns out my daughter did the same thing,” said one commenter.

Another wrote: “Little man just thinks mummy’s already so pretty she doesn’t need makeup.”

While some makeup fanatics sympathized with the loss: “Are those Marc Jacobs liners? I’d cry if I found one missing—they’re discontinued!” said one commenter.

This isn’t the first time toddlers have gone viral for their mischievous tendencies. Last year a one-year-old was caught on camera conducting a “jailbreak” with the family’s golden retriever. While earlier this year a dad caught his twin boys taking part in a hilarious mission to climb onto the couch, with one climbing over the other.

    Why do toddlers hide objects?

At around 18–24 months of age, toddlers generally begin to grasp object permanence—understanding that objects continue to exist even when they are out of sight.

This often leads to an increase in hiding things, because the child knows that the object still exists and can be retrieved later.

In fact, experts say this behavior is an important step in cognitive development, helping lay the groundwork for memory, problem-solving, and more complex cognitive abilities as children grow.
