The revamped Chase Sapphire Reserve has a new welcome bonus that Iâd consider better than what we saw at launch. Instead of 100,000 points and a $500 Chase Travel credit, you can now earn 125,000 points instead. I think most people will take the extra 25,000 points instead of the $500 travel credit.
The new bonus is already available through referral links, which means that if a friend or family members invites you, they will earn a bonus. Small business owners can also check out the 200K bonus of the Sapphire Reserve Business card.
Chase says this card now offers â$2,700 in annual cardmember valueâ, but it also comes with a higher annual fee of $795. Check out the bonus below, plus the full details of the revamped benefits.

Can we all just admit that itâs totally intentional at this point? These popcorn buckets are well out of hand. From the Dune 2 monster p*ssy to the glory hole Deadpool & Wolverine, thereâs no limit to what perverted vessel weâll be eating out of these days.
With the latest installment of Annabelleâs story, The Conjuring: Last Rites hitting theaters on September 5th, studios had to up the ante.
âIt is definitely going to happen,â White told CBS Mornings on Aug. 12, saying Independence Day is the proposed date as of now.
White said that he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday about the event, planned for Americaâs 250th birthday. He also said that he plans to meet with Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, at the end of August to finalize details and review venue renderings.
âWhen he (Trump) called me and asked me to do it, he said, âI want Ivanka in the middle of this,’â White said. âSo Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings.â

White also told The Associated Press that the event is âabsolutely going to happenâ at the presidential home in Washington, D.C., next summer
âThink about that, the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the UFC will be on the White House south lawn live on CBS,â he said.
The UFC boss noted it was still too early to discuss a potential main event for the White House fight night.
âThis is a one-of-one event,â White added.
Trump previously said last month he wanted to stage a UFC match on the White House grounds with upwards of 20,000 spectators to celebrate 250 years of American independence.

âEvery one of our national park battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honour of America 250,â Trump said. âAnd I even think weâre going to have a UFC fight. Weâre going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House.â

Trump announces UFC event to be held at the White House
The plans for the first-ever UFC fight at the White House were shared hours after Paramount and UFC announced a billion-dollar rights deal, making the streaming service the new home to UFC events across the U.S. next year, through a seven-year agreement.
Under the deal with UFC, Paramount will exclusively distribute UFCâs full lineup of its 13 marquee numbered events and 30 Fight Nights on its streaming platform Paramount+ â with select numbered events also set to simulcast on CBS â starting in 2026.
Itâs a shift away from the UFCâs existing pay-per-view model, which Paramount and TKO Group say will allow the mixed martial arts programming to reach more consumers nationwide.

White said in a post on the social media platform X that the deal with Paramount will make it more affordable and accessible for U.S. consumers to watch UFC events.
âThis deal puts UFC amongst the biggest sports in the world,â he wrote. âThe exposure provided by the Paramount and CBS networks under this new structure is a huge win for our athletes and anyone who watches and loves this sport.â
If youâve been anywhere near FoodTok, you know that almost every week, new food videos flood social feeds, demanding the attention of home cooks. One particular viral trend that the app canât seem to shake? High-protein recipes.
Youâll encounter creators making an array of meals and slapping the label high-protein on them. But with anything you spot online, take it with a grain of salt because people make false claims about the amount of protein in a product without using reliable sources. Despite this, protein is consistently in the limelightâand for good reason.
Protein helps the body repair and build muscles after exercising, keeps you feeling full after a meal, and supports immune system function, says Claire Rifkin, a registered dietitian nutritionist in New York City. Experts typically recommend getting anywhere from 15 to 30 grams per meal, but with any good thing, you donât want to go overboard, says Serena Benali, a registered dietitian based in Alberta, Canada.
In my quest to find the best protein-packed recipes, I was particularly interested in those that donât include protein powder. Dietary supplements are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, making it difficult to verify the ingredients or benefits claimed by the companies that sell them.
So, I tested seven high-protein (powder-free) recipes. Hereâs how that went.
1. Cucumber Lox Salad
Cucumber lox salad with capers, cream cheese, chili crisp, and everything bagel seasoning (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
If youâre into NYC bagel culture, you know one of the most popular ways to enjoy one is with cream cheese, lox, and a bunch of fixings like red onions, capers, and tomatoes.
TikTokâs âCucumber Guyâ Logan Moffitt went viral for showing followers a ridiculous number of ways to incorporate cucumbers into hearty meals, one of which is the insanely popular cucumber lox salad.
This recipe takes about ten minutes to prepare, with most of the work from chopping up all the veggies. I grabbed a mason jar and tossed in all of my ingredients: cream cheese, lox, sliced cucumbers, chopped red onions, caper, fresh dill, everything bagel seasoning, salt, pepper, and chili crisp. Then, I closed the lid and shook everything until it was combined.
The main source of protein in the salad comes from the fish, says Rifkin. For example, a three-ounce serving of smoked salmon has approximately 15 grams of protein. âI also like that this recipe includes some fiber-rich carbs from the cucumbers,â she says.
If you commute to work, you can prepare this recipe the night before or in the morning and take it with you to the office. The taste reminded me of a delicious bite of a Philadelphia sushi roll, which packs creamy and smoky flavors.
Next time, I plan on eating it with a few shreds of nori sheets (dried seaweed) to add an umami flavor and delicious crunch, similar to a sushi roll.
Overall, this dish kept me satisfied during a busy day when I didnât have time to grab a midday snack. I love that itâs customizable, so you can swap out the dressing or veggies in place of something else to keep things interesting.
2. Fluffy Yogurt
Strawberry and creme fluffy yogurt with granola and fresh fruit on top (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
The moment I came across creators dumping packets of pudding mix into their yogurt to make âfluffyâ yogurt, I knew I had to try it.
I followed a strawberry-infused version of the recipe from TikTok creator @_kennedynicole because it looked irresistibly delicious, and compared to a lot of high-protein trends, this one comes together fairly quicklyâin under five minutes.
To give the yogurt that whipped texture, I combined three-quarters of a cup of Greek yogurt with a tablespoon of pudding mix, a pinch of baking powder, and a drizzle of sweetenerâI chose honey, but stevia or agave would also work. After mixing, the curds thickened in texture.
The appeal of this viral hack is that it changes the texture of Greek yogurt. Rather than being smooth and creamy, it becomes light and puffy, Benali says. âThis fluffy version can provide a different mouthfeel, adding variety to your snack or breakfast routine,â she explains.
I flavored my fluffy yogurt with a strawberry creme pudding mix, but you can use any pudding you want. I then topped it with fresh sliced strawberries and granola. Because this recipe has nearly 20 grams of protein, I felt full until lunchtime.
My main gripe with this recipe is that it tasted artificial. It reminded me of those drinkable Danimals yogurts, which, for my palette, are too sweet in the morning.
It turns out there are 18 grams of sugar per serving in the pudding pack that I incorporated into this recipe. If you are monitoring your sugar intake, you may want to check the sugar and artificial sweetener content of your ingredients, Benali says.
3. Egg Flight
An egg flight with four kinds of toppings: garden medley (top left), Greek salad (top right), lox and capers (bottom left), and bacon-cheddar (bottom right) (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
When you hear the word flight in the food and beverage industry, youprobably think of a few neatly organized shot glasses filled with different types of alcohol. But TikTok foodies put their own spin on this in what they call âegg flights,â where halves of boiled eggs are meticulously laid out on a board and topped with various seasonings. Since I typically eat a few boiled eggs as a quick bite throughout the week, this dish was right up my alley.
Eggs are a powerhouse; they contain upwards of six to eight grams of protein each, says Benali. âWith an egg flight, you can enjoy multiple variations in one meal, making it easy to reach around 18 grams of protein if you include three eggs,â she says. And if you tend to grow bored with the same flavorsâor want to use up a bunch of ingredients in your kitchenâthis is a great route.
I followed an egg flight recipe from @heresyourbite. However, I made some original creations based on what I already had sitting in my fridge. I made a spread of egg halves and topped one with a garden medley of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions; another with traditional Greek salad ingredients like olives, banana peppers, red onions, and feta; another with lox and capers; and finally, one with a homemade bacon-cheddar topping.
How I made my egg flight using Martha Stewartâs boiled egg method đĽ Hereâs how to make them: FILLING 1/3-1/2 cup @Kewpieusa 1 tsp dijon, to taste 1/2 shallot, finely diced 1 clove garlic, grated 2-4 dashes of tabasco Salt and pepper, to taste 1/4 tsp vinegar 1. Place your eggs in a pan. Pour in cold water and cover the eggs with 1 inch of water. Add in a pinch of salt (optional splash of vinegar) and bring to a boil 2. Once boiling, cover, remove from heat, and let sit for 12-13 minutes 3. Place eggs in an ice bath to cool or run under cold water 4. Gently roll/tap the eggs to release the shell and peel 5. Add yolks to a bowl followed by your kewpie mayo, dijon, shallot, grated garlic, tabaso, salt, pepper, and vinegar. Stir to combine and taste for seasonings. 6. Assemble your deviled eggs. Hereâs the ingredients I used for each flavor: đ§ Cacio e Pepe | Freshly grated parm and black pepper đśď¸ Chili Garlic | @FLY BY JING , feta, sesame seeds, chives đĽ BEC | Crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, chives đ˝ Elote | Fire roasted corn, lime juice, Valentina hot sauce, tajin, cotija cheese (I forgot to add the cheese) #eggflight#egg#eggs#eggrecipe#hardboiledegg#deviledeggs#deviledeggflight#deviledeggrecipe#eggtok#eggtiktok#foodtiktok#easyrecipe#easyrecipes#howto#howtoboileggs#kewpiemayo#marthastewart
Not only did this meal fill me up for lunch, but I also loved that I got to use up a bunch of food that would have otherwise gone to waste. Playing artist with my blank-egg canvas brought a lot of joy to my midday break, providing me with a delicious plate to fuel my daily afternoon walk, where I strive to reach 5,000 steps. Needless to say, I hit my goal with this energizing meal.
4. Blueberry-Muffin Smoothie
A blueberry-muffin smoothie with whole milk, chia seeds, cinnamon, peanut butter, and banana (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
A thick and hearty smoothie is one of my favorite breakfast foods when Iâm on the go. When I came across a blueberry-muffin smoothie recipe on TikTok from user @kamry.blessed, I knew it would be the perfect meal to bring on my morning walk.
I blended one frozen banana, one cup of frozen blueberries, one-half cup of rolled oats, two tablespoons of chia seeds, two tablespoons of peanut butter, a pinch of cinnamon, and one cup of milk.
According to Benali, smoothies make for a satisfying breakfast because they allow you to mix in a variety of high-protein ingredients. âGreek yogurt adds creaminess and protein, while dairy milk boosts texture and nutritional value,â she says.
This blueberry muffin smoothie is yummy at any age! I love having quick options for the mornings. Eden enjoyed it as well once she got over the fact that I gave her the wrong color cup. đ Let me know in the description if youâre a morning person or not. Iâm not! Ingredients â˘2 bananas â˘2 cups frozen blueberries â˘1/2 cup of oats â˘3 tbsp chia seeds â˘3 tbsp peanut butter â˘2 cups of milk (we use raw Jersey cow milk) Combine all of your ingredients together and blend! You can add in some honey or maple syrup if youâd like it to be sweeter! #smoothie#easybreakfast#blw#momsoftiktok#viral
Infused with refreshing blueberry flavors and a hint of warm cinnamon, this ultra-creamy smoothie was delicious. It was also very filling, containing nearly 20 grams of protein. Now that Iâve tried this drink, Iâve worked it into my weekly rotation.
5. Cottage Cheese Flatbread Topped with Genoa Salami
Cottage cheese flatbread with Genoa salami and mozzarella melted on top (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
Out of all the recipes I tried for this story, the one that scared me the most was this cottage cheese flatbread trend I kept seeing pop up on my TikTok feed.
Between watching creators dump cartons of cottage cheese on a baking sheet or, worse, trying to convince their followers that they were making a pizza dupe, I had a lot of reservations. But I decided to go for it and followed a recipe created by @whatmollymade.
This high-protein flatbread-of-sorts involves blending one cup of cottage cheese with two eggs, salt, and dried oregano into a batter. The tutorial instructs you to pour this âdoughâ onto a flat cookie sheet and bake it for about 35 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. (FYI: The cooking time varies by oven, so itâs best to monitor your flatbread until the top begins to brown.)
After I grabbed the baked cottage cheese from my oven, I took my own route and topped the warm crust with mozzarella and Genoa salami. Then, I popped the flatbread back into the oven for about three minutes to melt the cheese.
Viral cottage cheese flatbread! Recipeđ Itâs 10/10! What you need: 1 cup cottage cheese 2 eggs 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp Italian seasoning Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour onto a 9Ă13 parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes! This makes 2 flatbreads. *If you only have a half sheet pan, double the recipe (same cook time). Youll have 4 servings! #cottagecheese#viral#lowcarb#highprotein
While I was eager to enjoy a slice, with upwards of 30 grams of protein per serving (the added mozzarella and salami increased the protein value), it wasnât easy to eat or finish, for that matter, which is unfortunate considering how pretty it looks.
Even though itâs supposed to mimic a pizza, the lack of substance in the batter gives it a soggy texture, making it difficult to lift.
It also had an overwhelming eggy taste, which I usually donât mind, but I couldnât get over the soft and wet texture. I recommend making a simple frittata like this one instead. Youâll get a crispier crust and about 20 grams of protein.
6. Greek Yogurt Clusters
Strawberry Greek yogurt clusters dipped in dark chocolate (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
TikTok will typically point you toward a Greek yogurt cluster for a quick and easy high-protein snack. The frozen treat includes upwards of 10 grams of protein per serving and promises to fuel your most active adventures.
I followed a recipe from @oatsfairy and assembled my frozen bites using vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt, honey, fresh strawberries, and dark chocolate.
Greek yogurt typically has nearly double the amount of protein of traditional yogurt, which makes it an excellent option for someone trying to increase their protein intake, says Rifkin. âYogurt is also a great source of probioticsâwhich supports gut healthâand can be easily paired with other foods like fruits and nuts to increase the nutritional value of a snack,â she says.
chocolate covered strawberry yogurt clusters đđŤ -chopped strawberries -1 cup greek yogurt -1 tsp vanilla extract -3 to 4 tbsp honey or agave -1 cup chocolate chips -1 tbsp coconut oil mix the yogurt, honey, and vanilla, fold in the chopped strawberries. scoop into clusters and freeze for 1-2 hours. once they are frozen, coat the clusters in the melted chocolate. place back into the freezer for another 10 min #healthyrecipes#healthydessert#easyrecipes#strawberries
This was definitely one of the best treats I have ever tried. I had so much fun dipping the frozen yogurt clusters in melted dark chocolate. Once they were finished, I couldnât stop telling my partner how much I adored them.
Keep in mind that this recipe takes at least a few hours to finish because you have to reserve time for the yogurt to freeze. Itâs ideal to make it on meal-prep days, and then you can just reach for it in your freezer when you need a quick snack.
Overall, they were very satisfying and brought me much more joy than my usual protein bars ever could. Plus, theyâre super customizable.
I canât wait to try these stuffed with mango, blueberries, or cherries. (Quick tip: To save your teeth and jaw, let them thaw a little before eating so they arenât rock-solid when you go in for a bite.)
7. Trader Joeâs Red Lentil Pasta
Trader Joeâs Red Lentil Pasta topped with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese (Photo: Ashia Aubourg)
People cannot stop making videos detailing their admiration for Trader Joeâs Red Lentil Sedanini Pasta. According to many, itâll help you create a ten-minute dinner with no fuss. Just one servingâabout one cup of dry penneâcontains 15 grams of protein.
Lentil pasta is a great source of plant-based protein, says Benali. âItâs an excellent option for vegetarians and vegans, offering a nutritious alternative to traditional pasta,â she says. Plus, itâs high in fiber because it contains nearly six grams, Rifkin adds.
While I kept my pasta simple (I topped mine with tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese), you can customize this dish to your liking, Rifkin says. âFor added nutrition, I recommend tossing in a handful of greens like spinach or baby kale,â she says. Leafy greens add nutrients like fiber, iron, magnesium, potassium, and calcium.
If you need inspiration, check out @lexiewoodarddâs vegetable red lentil pasta.
As a vocal pasta lover, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this noodle dish tasted.
While savoring my delicious red lentil pasta and reflecting on all the recipes Iâve tested, I came to the realization that upping your protein intake should never come at the expense of flavor in your favorite meals.Â

The actor did not give further details on his diagnosis, but shared in an Instagram post Sunday: âIâm in a good place and feeling strong.â

An increasing number of younger people are being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in Canada and the United States â even though overall cases and deaths have fallen in recent years.
According to a 2023 study from the American Cancer Society, one in five cases diagnosed in 2019 were in people under 55, almost double the rate of 11 per cent in 1995.
Itâs a similar situation in Canada, where colorectal cancer is the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.

âThe rates are reportedly increasing among adults younger than 50 in Canada and the U.S.,â Elizabeth Holmes, senior manager of health policy at the Canadian Cancer Society, told Global News in an interview last year.
Earlier this year, Colorectal Cancer Canada warned about rising rates, calling it an âalarmingâ increase in cases in young adults.
âThe incidence of colorectal cancer among young adults under 50 years of age has rapidly climbed in recent years, challenging conventional perceptions of this disease as being a disease of older adults,â the agency said in February.
âThis alarming reality serves as a stark reminder that vigilance and advocacy are paramount in the fight against colorectal cancer.â
A petition started by a patient and signed by thousands of people was tabled in Ontarioâs provincial legislature around the same time, calling for the age criteria used for the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) and colonoscopy to be lowered to 30 from 50.
Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or rectum â which are part of the large intestine â and can also spread to other parts of the body.

Unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol consumption increase the risks for this type of cancer, but family history is also a contributing factor.

Colorectal cancer symptoms and screening
Since the early 2000s, the incidence and death rates for colorectal cancer have been decreasing, likely due to a reduction in modifiable risk factors, improvements in screening and advancements in treatment, Holmes told Global News.
Some of the symptoms of colorectal cancer to look out for include blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel habits like diarrhea or constipation, she said.
Canadian provinces have routine colorectal cancer screening programs that are recommended for people aged 50 to 74 years of age.
Besides regular screening, there are other ways to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

These include avoiding red and processed meat, limiting alcohol consumption, increasing physical activity and eating lots of vegetables, fruits and fibre, said Holmes.
In Canada, the current five-year survival rate for colorectal cancer is about 67 per cent.
Heidi Klum and Janelle MonĂĄe opted for out-of-this-world Halloween costumes this year â both choosing to dress as the stubby alien E.T. for their parties on opposite coasts.
While the similar costumes will likely spark âwho wore it bestâ debates that are popular in celebrity magazines, the stars chose different interpretations of the creature from Steven Spielbergâs 1982 classic, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Klumâs husband Tom Kaulitz dressed as E.T., while the model and television personality came as Mrs. E.T. with animatronic eyes, a long neck and a blonde wig. MonĂĄe opted for a stubbier version of the diminutive alien, waddling on the red carpet at her Halloween bash Thursday night. The Grammy winnerâs E.T. had animatronic eyes and also sported a yellow index finger, mimicking the movie characterâs light up finger.

Klum and MonĂĄe take Halloween seriously, with each donning elaborate costumes. This year, their Halloween night parties played out on opposite coasts, with Klum gathering celebrity friends in New York and MonĂĄe hosting her party in Los Angeles.
Klumâs face was in the creatureâs neck, allowing her to see and speak. She told the AP her costume had been in the works for a year.

âI just love becoming this thing. E.T. is very small and so I thought it would be fun to kind of play with the proportions too,â Klum said.
Klum and Kaulitz touched their heads tenderly after unveiling their costumes amid smoke and a light show at Klumâs party.
MonĂĄe revealed her E.T. costume on Wednesday on The Jennifer Hudson Show. She also did an elaborate photo shoot posted on Instagram where she appeared riding a bike with E.T. in a basket on front, an homage to one of the most iconic moments of Spielbergâs film.
I first encountered the 40/40/40 rule years ago while skimming one of those giant (and indispensable) 400 page Understanding by Design tomes.
The question was simple enough. Of all of the academic standards, you are tasked with âcoveringâ (more on this in a minute), whatâs important that students understand for the next 40 days, whatâs important that they understand for the next 40 months, and whatâs important that they understand for the next 40 years?
As you can see, this is a powerful way to think about academic content.
Of course, this leads to the discussion of both power standards and enduring understandings, curriculum mapping, and instructional design tools teachers use every day.
But it got me thinking. So I drew a quick pattern of concentric circlesâsomething like the image belowâand started thinking about the writing process, tone, symbolism, audience, purpose, structure, word parts, grammar, Â and a thousand other bits of ELA stuff.
Not (Necessarily) Power Standards
And it was an enlightening process.
First, note that this process is a bit different than identifying power standards in your curriculum.
Power Standards can be chosen by looking at these standards that can serve to âanchor and embedâ other content. This idea of â40/40/40â is more about being able to survey a large bundle of stuff and immediately spot whatâs necessary. If your house is on fire and youâve got 2 minutes to get only as much as you can carry out, what do you take with you?
In some ways, it can be reduced to a depth vs breadth argument. Coverage versus mastery. UbD refers to it as the difference between ânice to know,â âimportant content,â and âenduring understandings.â These labels can be confusingâenduring versus 40/40/40 vs power standards vs big ideas vs essential questions.
This is why I loved the simplicity of the 40/40/40 rule.
It occurred to me that it was more about contextualizing the child in the midst of the content, rather than simply unpacking and arranging standards. One of UbDâs framing questions for establishing âbig ideasâ offer some clarity:
âTo what extent does the idea, topic, or process represent a âbig ideaâ having enduring value beyond the classroom?â
The essence of the 40/40/40 rule seems to be to look honestly at the content weâre packaging for children, and contextualize it in their lives. This hints at authenticity, priority, and even the kind of lifelong learning that teachers dare to dream about.
Applying The 40/40/40 Rule In Your Classroom
Thereâs likely not one single âright wayâ to do this, but here are a few tips:
1. Start Out Alone
While youâll need to socialize these with team or department members soon, it is helpful to clarify what you think about the curriculum before the world joins you. Plus, this approach forces you to analyze the standards closely, rather than simply being polite and nodding your head a lot.
2. Then Socialize
After youâve sketched out your thinking about the content standards you teach, share itâonline, in a data team or PLC meeting, or with colleagues one afternoon after school.
3. Keep It Simple
Use a simple 3-column chart or concentric circles as shown above, and start separating the wheat from the chaff. No need to get complex with your graphic organizer.
4. Be Flexible
Youâre going to have a different sense of priority about the standards than your colleagues. These are different personal philosophies about life, teaching, your content area, etc. As long as these differences arenât drastic, this is normal.
5. Realize Children Arenât Little Adults
Of course, everyone needs to spell correctly, but weighing spelling versus extracting implicit undertones or themes (typical English-Language Arts content) is also a matter of realizing that children and adults are fundamentally different. Rarely is a child going to be able to survey an array of media, synthesize themes, and create new experiences for readers without being able to use a verb correctly. It can happen, but therein lies the idea of power standards, big ideas, and most immediately the 40/40/40 rule: One dayâ40 days. 40 months, or even 10 years from nowâthe students in front of you will be goneâadults in the âreal world.â
Not everything they can doâor canât doâat that time will be because of you no matter how great the lesson, assessment design, use of data, pacing guide, or curriculum map. But if you can accept thatâand start backward from worst-case âif they learn nothing else this year, theyâre going to know this and thatâthen you can work backward from those priorities.
Those content bits that will last for 40 yearsâor longer.
In your content area, on your curriculum map, pacing guide, or whatever guiding documents you use, start filling up that little orange circle first and work backward from there.

At Kamala Harrisâ campaign rally in Detroit on Tuesday, former U.S. president Barack Obama told the crowd his âpalms are sweaty, knees weak, my arms are heavyâ over having to speak on stage after rapper Eminem.
Both Obama, 63, and Eminem, 52, attended the rally to promote Vice-President Harris ahead of the Nov. 5 American presidential election.
âI have done a lot of rallies, so I donât usually get nervous,â Obama told the cheering crowd. âBut I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem.â
The former president â a known music lover â then recited several lines from Eminemâs song Lose Yourself, but adapted the lyrics to be in first-person.
Harrisâ supporters grew raucous as they shouted support and waved campaign signs while Obama rapped.

âI notice my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on my sweater already, momâs spaghetti, Iâm nervous but on the surface I look calm and ready to drop bombs but I keep on forgetting,â Obama recited while bouncing up and down behind the podium.
Obama blasts Trumpâs track record during rally for Harris: âWe remember you being president, buddyâ
He then sang along to the Lose Yourself melody and joked, âI thought Eminem was performing, I was going to jump out.â

âLove me some Eminem,â Obama said.
Following the rap, the former president condemned Donald Trump and said America is âready to turn the pageâ on his antics.
Obama referenced Trumpâs recent town hall in Pennsylvania this month, where the former president danced to music for about 40 minutes instead of speaking to voters.

âIf your grandpa was acting like this, youâd be worried,â Obama said. âThis is somebody who wants unchecked power. We do not need to see what an older, loonier Donald Trump looks like with no guardrails.â
Obama also spoke about Trumpâs refusal to accept the 2020 election results and said it led to his supporters intimidating poll workers in Detroit, âall because Donald Trump couldnât accept losing.â
Before Obama took the stage, Eminem spoke briefly and told the crowd that his hometown Detroit and âthe whole state of Michigan mean a lot to me.â
âGoing into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever,â the rapper said. âAnd I think itâs important to use your voice. So, Iâm encouraging everybody to get out and vote, please.
âI also think that people shouldnât be afraid to express their opinions, and I donât think anyone wants an America where people are worried about retribution, or what people will do if you make your opinion known.â
Eminem endorsed Harris for president because she âsupports a future for this country where these freedoms and many others will be protected and upheld.â
Tuesdayâs rally was not the first time Eminem has been vocal about politics.
A critic of former U.S. president Trump, Eminem dissed him in his 2016 song Campaign Speech, which was released 19 days before the presidential election. The song warned Americans about voting for Trump and disparaged his supporters.

Eminem has also criticized other Republican politicians, including former president George W. Bush, whom he rapped about on the 2004 track Mosh, released before the presidential election that year.
Beyond Obamaâs appreciation for Eminem, the former president has said he is an avid music fan, and his tastes extend to many genres.
Twice a year, the former president shares an official list of his current favourite songs to his social media accounts. Obamaâs Summer 2024 playlist included music from Sting, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Bob Dylan, GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion.
Michigan is a swing state with the potential to vote primarily Democrat or Republican in the presidential election. During the 2016 race, the state turned red and helped push Trump to victory. The next election cycle in 2020 saw Michigan vote blue for President Joe Biden.

Trump also hosted a rally in Detroit last week, where he brought out hometown rapper Trick Trick to endorse him.

Seven new lawsuits have been filed against Sean âDiddyâ Combs, including one alleging the rape of a 13-year-old girl. They come as his lawyers tried again Monday to get him freed on bail â and complained that a âfresh wave of publicityâ is endangering his right to a fair criminal trial.
In the lawsuits filed Sunday in state and federal courts, four men and three women, all anonymous, allege they were sexually assaulted by Combs at parties over the last two decades.
Combs, 54, has pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking charges contained in an indictment unsealed the day after his Sept. 16 arrest. Charges include allegations he coerced and abused women for years, aided by associates and employees, and silenced victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.

He has remained incarcerated pending a May 5 trial after two judges denied bail in rulings being appealed to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Combsâ lawyers asked a judge Sunday to order potential witnesses and their lawyers to stop making statements that could prevent a fair trial.

âAs the Court is aware, Mr. Combs has been the target of an unending stream of allegations by prospective witnesses and their counsel in the press,â they wrote. âThese prospective witnesses and their lawyers have made numerous inflammatory extrajudicial statements aimed at assassinating Mr. Combsâs character in the press.â
The latest lawsuits are drawn from what lawyers say are more than 100 accusers who are planning legal action against Combs. Plaintiffsâ lawyer Tony Buzbee announced the planned litigation at an Oct. 1 news conference and posted a 1-800 number for accusers to call.
Attorney representing over 100 alleged victims of Sean âDiddyâ Combs speaks out
As before, Combsâ representatives dismissed the latest lawsuits as âclear attempts to garner publicity.â They said Combs and his legal team âhave full confidence in the facts, their legal defences, and the integrity of the judicial process.â
Combs âhas never sexually assaulted anyone â adult or minor, man or woman,â they added.
One of the lawsuits filed Sunday alleges that a 13-year-old girl who was invited to a party by a limousine driver after the Video Music Awards in Manhattan in September 2000 was raped by a âmale celebrityâ and then by Combs as individuals identified only as âCelebrity A,â a male, and âCelebrity B,â a female, watched.
Another lawsuit alleged that Combs sexually assaulted a 17-year-old male at a Manhattan hotel penthouse party in 2022.
In the lawsuits, it was alleged that the plaintiffs believed they had been fed drinks laced with drugs before they were assaulted.
Meanwhile, lawyers for Combs on Monday told the 2nd Circuit in a filing that heâll renew his bail application before the lower court based on âsignificant changed circumstances.â They said the issues include âconstitutional concerns stemming from his conditions of confinement and evidence contained in recently produced discovery.â
In a filing last week, prosecutors told the appeals court that judges denied bail after evidence showed Combs âused methodical and sophisticated means to silence and intimidate witnesses throughout the racketeering conspiracy and during the Governmentâs investigation.â

âWeâre completely devastated by the news of Liamâs passing,â the band wrote on Instagram. âIn time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.â

Louis Tomlinson
After the release of One Directionâs joint statement, the bandmates slowly shared individual tributes to Payne on their social media accounts.
âI first met Liam when he was 16 and I was 18, I was instantly amazed by his voice but more importantly as time went on I got a chance to see the kind brother Iâd longed all my life for,â Tomlinson, 32, wrote. âLiam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together to try and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band.â
Tomlinson called Payne âthe most vital part of One Directionâ and thanked him for shaping the band.
The singer then extended a personal message to Payne, âif youâre listening.â
Tomlinson said he is âbeyond luckyâ to have had Payne in his life but is âreally struggling with the idea of saying goodbye.â
âReminiscing about all the thousands of amazing memories we had together is a luxury I thought Iâd have with you for life,â he continued. âI would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasnât to be.â
Payne and Tomlinson have both admitted to having an occasionally tense relationship while they were members of One Direction. During an infamous interview on Logan Paulâs podcast Impaulsive, Payne in 2022 said he and Tomlinson despised one another to the point of physical arguments.

Zayn Malik
Malik said heâs been âtalking out loudâ to Payne since news of his death.
âI canât help but think selfishly that there are so many more conversations for us to have in our lives.â Malik, 31, wrote. âI never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.â
âWhen I was missing home as a 17 year old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know that you were my friend and that I loved,â he remembered.

Malik said he admired Payne, despite the fact that they âbutted headsâ often in their youth.
âI always secretly respected you for it,â Malik revealed of their arguments.
The Pillowtalk singer said Payne was always the most âqualifiedâ musician and member of One Direction.
âI lost a brother when you left us and canât explain to you what Iâd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly,â Malik concluded. âI will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated.â
Malik suddenly left One Direction in 2015, and the band members continued for several months without him before announcing their hiatus.
He and Payne had a tumultuous relationship, which Payne spoke about â and later apologized for â on the Impaulsive podcast.
Earlier this year, Malik said he was grateful to be a part of One Direction, but wished he had âenjoyedâ the experience more in his younger years.
âIâm grateful that Iâm able to be happier now,â Zayn said in an interview.

âHe was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving,â Styles said of Payne. âThe years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life.â

In a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe, ahead of the release of his album Harryâs House, Styles reminisced about the One Direction years. He recalled the first time the bandmatesâ photo together was published in a local newspaper, and how âhappyâ the then-teenagers were over the little success.

Two weeks ahead of his death, Payne attended Horanâs stadium concert in Argentina. Payne was seen dancing in a private box at the venue ahead of and during the show, then met with Horan afterward.

Horan, 31, said he feels âfortunateâ to have seen Payne recently.

Horan said Payneâs death âjust doesnât feel real.â
âLiam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious,â he continued. âHe was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure.â
âAll the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness,â Horan wrote. âWe got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesnât happen often in a lifetime.â
Niall extended well wishes to Payneâs family and thanked his bandmate for âeverything.â
Horan said he has âa good outlook on things, looking backâ and was grateful he âdidnât lose the plot along the way.â
Who was Liam Payne?
The members of One Direction met in 2010 on the U.K. singing competition The X Factor, when judges including Simon Cowell paired the then-teenage boys together in a group act.
Payne had already auditioned for The X Factor two years prior but was eliminated early on. His successful second attempt at 16 years old positioned Payne as a leader among the five One Direction boys, known for their rowdy shenanigans.
One Directionâs success was explosive. Until the band announced its hiatus in 2015, the membersâ faces could commonly be found plastered on the bedroom walls of teenagers around the world.
Today, those fans are mourning the death of their parasocial relationships with Payne, alongside the One Direction members, who lost a beloved âbrother.â
One Direction fans around the world are mourning Liam Payne, sharing memories and tributes to the singer after his shocking death on Wednesday.
Payne, 31, died after he fell from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Paramedics arrived at the scene, but Payne suffered âextremely serious injuries,â including a skull fracture, local health officials said. Resuscitation was not possible.
An autopsy report released Thursday revealed Payne died of multiple serious injuries and âinternal and external bleedingâ as a result of the balcony fall. The report alleged that alcohol, drugs and destroyed furniture were discovered in Payneâs hotel room.

Before his death, a hotel employee contacted local emergency services to report a guest who had âoverindulged on drugs and alcohol.â Though the employee never identified Payne by name, a transcript of the call said staff requested urgent help about a guest âbreakingâ things in their room.
The hotel employee told 911 they were âafraidâ the unnamed man âmight do something life-threateningâ because there was a balcony in his suite.
Payneâs body was found in the hotelâs courtyard. TMZ was the first North American outlet to report news of his death and shared several cropped photos of Payneâs body â a decision highly criticized by fans and celebrities alike, who have accused the tabloid of being âmorally decrepit.â TMZ has since removed the photos from coverage of Payneâs death.
Since then, speculation and misinformation surrounding the singerâs death have swirled online, including a bogus video of a man purported to be Payne falling from a window circulating on social media.

Liam Payneâs final days
Two weeks ahead of his death, Payne attended a stadium concert for his fellow One Direction bandmate Niall Horan in Argentina.
Payne engaged with fans from a private box in the arena and danced along to the pre-show playlist. Recordings of the star at Horanâs show went viral on social media and brought on mass criticism and cyberbullying for Payne, who some claimed was seeking attention.
In a video ahead of the show, Payne said on Snapchat that he was hoping to talk to Horan after the concert âto square up a couple of things.â
âNo bad vibes or anything like that,â he clarified. âBut just we need to talk.â
The former boy banders reunited backstage, and Payne posted a photo with Horan to his Snapchat account on Oct. 2.

Payneâs girlfriend Kate Cassidy shared an edited video of compiled footage of the couple and their friends at Horanâs show.
Payne and Cassidy stayed in South America to vacation after attending Horanâs concert.
He documented much of his trip on social media. On Snapchat, Payne shared footage of himself and Cassidy relaxing in Argentina and discussed mundanities like playing water polo, horseback riding and his costume plans for Halloween this year.
His final social media post was to Snapchat. In the photo, he and Cassidy are posed for a mirror selfie in their swimwear, though it is unclear when the photo was taken.

In the weeks leading up to his death, Payne was reportedly served a cease-and-desist from his ex-fiancĂŠe, Maya Henry, who alleged Payne had repeatedly contacted her.

Henry published a book called Looking Forward in May. The writing is âinspired by true eventsâ and tells the story of a hopeful model who falls in love with a boy band member.
In an interview with People magazine, Henry said she had âvery similarâ experiences to the bookâs main character, including suffering complications during an abortion. Henryâs book character is encouraged not to seek treatment for hemorrhaging during an abortion over fear of being spotted publicly and beginning tabloid speculation.
Payne and Henry got engaged in 2020 but called off the plans in April 2022.
During a podcast appearance this week, before Payneâs death, Henry tried to clarify the line between fact and fiction in her book and said she âjust wanted to tell her story.â
Outside the CasaSur Hotel on Wednesday night, emotions were high as fans gathered to light candles and softly sing One Direction songs.
Hundreds of teary-eyed fans surrounded the Palermo-region hotel as news of the singerâs death was breaking. They watched as police blocked off the road and entrances to the hotel amid their investigation.

Like all members of One Direction, the former boyband member had legions of dedicated fans. As he had risen quickly to such intense levels of fame at 16 years old, many of Payneâs admirers adored him throughout their childhoods and were often of similar age to the star.
As Payneâs body was taken away in a red firefighter van, the crowd applauded while other fans wept.

Though he auditioned as a solo act, the judges, including Simon Cowell, put Payne in an all-boys group called One Direction. The boyband would go on to reach incredible heights of international fame and success.
Until One Direction announced its hiatus in 2015, Payneâs face could commonly be found plastered on the bedroom walls of teenage girls around the world.
He went on to produce music as a solo artist, including the songs Strip That Down (feat. Quavo) and For You (With Rita Ora).
Payneâs solo career was marred with controversy and personal struggles with sobriety in recent years.
He faced intense backlash last year after a guest appearance on YouTuber Logan Paulâs podcast Impaulsive.
Payne, while drinking whisky, spoke negatively about his experience in One Direction, said he and member Louis Tomlinson despised one another to the point of physical arguments and accused another bandmate of âthrowing him up against a wallâ ahead of a concert.
He said he was âangry at what was going on around meâ and took out his frustrations on others. Payne said heâd since attended rehab and was nearly six months sober.
âThe rest of the boys really stuck by me when I needed them most, they kind of came to the rescue,â he said of his former band members. âEven Zayn, as well, which is why I did send him a little thank you online. It came across really big-headed, didnât it?â

Sean âDiddyâ Combs has again been hit with a slew of new lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, including one claim alleging the hip-hop mogul molested a 16-year-old boy.
Combs, who has already been named in more than a dozen sexual assault lawsuits, was sued by six more people in Manhattan on Monday. The new filings claim Combs was abusive to the victims, who have not been named publicly, at various parties and industry events from 1995 to 2021.
Two of the six lawsuits centre around various âwhite partiesâ thrown by Combs, where guests dressed in all white clothing to celebrate the Fourth of July or Labour Day weekend at his home in the Hamptons.
One accuser said he was 16 at the time of a 1998 party, where Combs allegedly asked him to remove his pants and proceeded to touch the victim sexually, the Washington Post reported.

Combs told the teenager such conduct was a rite of passage for anyone attempting to break into the music industry, the filing states. The man, identified only as John Doe, said he complied out of fear and a hope Combs would help him secure a successful future.
The second White Party allegation comes from a man who said he was hired as security for the event in 2006. The anonymous accuser alleged he was served a drink laced with narcotics. While he was âextremely ill,â the man said Combs raped him in an open van.
In a statement, Combsâ lawyers denied any wrongdoing and said all of the lawsuits are âclear attempts to garner publicity.â
âIn court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyoneâadult or minor, man or woman,â his lawyers wrote.

The Iâll Be Missing You rapper is expected to be named in more than 100 additional lawsuits, according to lawyers who said their clientsâ allegations range from sexual assault and rape to sex trafficking and violent behaviour. The latest lawsuits come from this same pool of filings, led by Texas-based lawyer Tony Buzbee.

One accuser said she was raped by Combs in 2004 after while filming the reality TV show Making the Band. She said Combs invited her and a friend to an âexclusiveâ after-party at a Marriott hotel. Upon their arrival, the lawsuit claims one of Combsâ staffers told the two women, âYou know what you are here for.â
The unnamed woman said she was 19 when Combs âfondled, molested and ultimately rapedâ her in the hotel room.
Another accuser said Combs sexually assaulted him at Manhattanâs Macyâs flagship store in 2008. According to the lawsuit, Combs was there to promote his clothing line, Sean John, when he cornered the John Doe in the stockroom with three of his bodyguards in tow. The man, who worked for a rival fashion brand, said Combs forced him to perform oral sex as his staffers watched.
Combs allegedly threatened the manâs life if he were to tell anyone about the assault, the filing states. Other accusers said the same, claiming Combs threatened them.
The fifth lawsuit sees a woman accuse Combs of becoming physically violent and raping her at a party celebrating the release of Notorious B.I.G.âs One More Chance music video at Elks Plaza in New York City in 1995.
Most recently, one accuser said he believed he was served a laced drink at a party thrown by Combs in 2021. The man, who said he is a consultant working in the music industry, alleged Combs brought him to a backroom and raped him while he was impaired.

Combs has also denied the racketeering, sex trafficking and prostitution charges against him in an ongoing federal investigation.
Last week, the rapper and his lawyers accused federal authorities of leaking the video of Combsâ physical assault against his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, among other information, to the press in an alleged attempt to deprive Combs of a fair jury trial.
Combs is still in custody and has repeatedly been denied bail. He was arrested last month.
Two judges have concluded that Combs would be a danger to the community if he is released. On Friday, an appeals court judge denied Combsâ immediate release from jail while a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals weighs his bail request. One judge deemed Combs a âserious flight risk.â

Brooks, 62, on Tuesday told the U.S. District Court in Mississippi the womanâs allegations are part of an âongoing attempted extortionâ meant to defame him and inflict emotional distress. He said he is âthe victim of a shakedown.â
The woman, identified as âJane Roeâ in legal filings prior to Tuesday, said the singer raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2019. Lawyers for the woman told the Los Angeles Times that Brooks outed her identity âwith no legal justification because he thinks the laws donât apply to him.â
âGarth Brooks just revealed his true self,â said lawyers Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker.

Jane Roe told the court she was employed as a makeup and hair stylist for Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, from 1999 to 2021.
Throughout two years of her employment, the woman claims Brooks numerous times exposed his genitals to her, groped her body and sent her sexually explicit text messages. Roe said she continued to work for Brooks due to personal financial hardship, which he was aware of.

Global News typically does not name accusers of sexual assault unless they have come forward to identify themselves first.
Prior to the womanâs civil lawsuit against Brooks, filed in a California superior court, the Friends in Low Places singer sued her for alleged extortion. The lawsuit was filed anonymously in Mississippi and called Brooks âJohn Doe,â as well as âa celebrity and public figure who resides in Tennessee.â
Brooks told the court heâs been falsely accused of sexual assault by Jane Roe, who threatened legal action unless provided âa multimillion-dollar payment.â
He asked for the lawsuit to remain anonymous to avoid tarnishing his âwell-earned good reputation.â
The womanâs lawyers responded to Brooksâ filing and told the court they would sue in California.
âMs. Roe respectfully requests that she may commence her California action as she intended to do, and use Mr. Doeâs name, absent objection from this Honorable Court,â the legal response read.
The California lawsuit named Brooks, but not Jane Roe.
The womanâs lawyers said they will âbe moving for maximum sanctionsâ against Brooks for releasing her name.
Brooks requested compensatory and punitive damages, as well as a court injunction to halt his accuser from âfurther publicizing her false allegations.â He has asked for a trial by jury.
The singerâs lawyers justified naming the woman in the amended complaint. They said her own legal representation âwrested the decisionâ to name Brooks from the court when they briefed CNN about the lawsuit, despite Brooksâ motion to continue under pseudonyms still pending.
In a statement last week, amid widespread news coverage of the allegations against Brooks, he released a statement claiming he did not want to give anyone âhush money.â
âHush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of â ugly acts no human should ever do to another,â he wrote. âI trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.â

Eminemâs attack on Trump: When music and politics collide
Iâm a food writer living in Vermont, and Iâm always on the hunt for nutritious-but-still-tasty snack recipes to pack for my hiking adventures. Now that fall is in full swing, I (among millions of other home cooks) couldnât wait to dive into all things pumpkin. I checked out TikTok and found tons of videos of people baking pumpkin bread with the help of Trader Joeâs Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix. It looked delicious, and my interest was piqued.
So, I hopped in my car, drove to the local Trader Joeâs, about 30 minutes from my home, and purchased a box of the humble four-dollar mix. After trying it myself, IÂ admit that I totally get the hype.
But I wanted to live on the edge and take my pumpkin bread to the next level. This wasnât too hard to do because, like any other kind of premade boxed mix, it is customizable, which makes it easy to upgrade the recipe to your liking.
The mix comes packed with 26 grams of carbohydrates (per one-half-inch slice of the baked loaf), the bodyâs primary fuel source, says Haley Singer, a registered dietitian based in Chicago, Illinois. But, on its own, the pumpkin bread mix lacks protein and other nutrients.
Protein supports your body in many ways, says Meghan Pendleton, a registered dietitian in Detroit, Michigan. By adding protein-packed ingredients into Trader Joeâs pumpkin blend and metabolizing them, your body transforms them into amino acids, which play an important role in repairing muscles and maintaining your immune system, Pendleton says.
Plus, according to Singer, protein keeps you full, making it the ideal fuel before (or during) those leaf-peeping hikes. On average, youâll want to aim to eat about 15 to 30 grams per meal, and this hearty fall treat can help you get there.
In addition to protein-packed add-ins, consider including other nutritious elements to keep this snack balanced; ingredients containing magnesium, iron, or potassium are good options, says Pendleton.
Here are a few ideas for maximizing the protein content in your Trader Joeâs Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix.
1. Plop in a Few Scoops of Greek Yogurt
Mixing Greek yogurt into the pumpkin mix before baking helps create fluffy and tender textures.
Once youâve successfully made a loaf, slice off a piece and top it with a dollop of plain Greek yogurt for some tanginess to complement the sweetness of the bread.
A piece of this pumpkin bread will keep your hunger at bay on your cool-weather hikes since itâs packed with protein. Just one cup of Greek yogurt contains nearly 20 grams of protein.
Adding yogurt is also a great way to load up on probiotics, which help support gut health by keeping the number of microorganisms native to the small and large intestines in check. Plus, one cup of yogurt contains about 230 milligrams of calcium. Snacking on this treat can help bring you closer to the recommended daily allowance of calciumâ1,000 milligrams, and, in turn, support bone health. Itâs a win-win!
This remixed version of TJâs pumpkin bread is easy to make. Follow the recipe per the packageâs instructions and add the required two large eggs, one-half cup of oilâI used olive instead of vegetable oil because it helps the bread come out more moistâand one cup of water. Then, spoon in one-half cup of your favorite flavor of Greek yogurt; I chose vanilla. The instructions suggest baking the mix at 350°F for 55 minutes. After removing your fluffy loaf from the oven, cut it into slices and dab a few spoonfuls of yogurt on top.
This TJâs boxed mix quickly became one of my favorites. The Greek yogurt addition delivers a delicious brightness that pairs well with the sweetness of the pumpkin flavor. I packed a few slices for a day when I was going on a three-hour-long hike, and it was the ideal snack to help me regain some energy once I hit the halfway point of my trek.

2. Sprinkle in Pumpkin Seeds
This genius hack for enhancing TJâs pumpkin mix takes less than a minute to complete. Simply toss in about two tablespoons of pumpkin seeds while youâre prepping it. Pour the batter into your loaf (or muffin) pan. Once the batter settles, top it with a few more seedsâperhaps some leftover from your jack-oâ-lantern carving adventuresâfor a delicious nutty flavor and satisfying crunch.
Two tablespoons of pumpkin seeds have nearly nine grams of protein, which can help repair those strained muscles after an all-day hike.
Pumpkin seeds are also loaded with iron, says Pendleton. On average, folks should aim to consume about eight to 18 milligrams of iron daily. Two tablespoons of pumpkin seeds contain nearly 2.5Â milligrams of iron. âIron is important for enabling transport of oxygen in red blood cells and to make hormones,â says Pendelton. A couple of these muffins should help you reach your daily iron goals.
Before putting the batter in the oven, sprinkle two tablespoons of pumpkin seeds on top of the uncooked loaf (or individual muffin tops if youâre using a muffin pan), then bake according to the package directions. The pumpkin seeds will roast in the oven, creating a delectable, crunchy crust.
3. Fold in Ripe Bananas (or Plantains) and Walnuts
If you love banana bread, youâll swoon over this fruity upgrade. Itâs a great way to use up bananas that might be approaching their expiration date. Add mashed ripe bananas or plantains to the pumpkin mix to add extra sweetness and a tender texture.
Bananas are a great source of potassium, says Pendletonâjust one cup (mashed) of the yellow fruit contains a little over 800 milligrams.
Plantains, a member of the banana family, have upwards of 721 milligrams of potassium per cup. âPotassium is essential for maintaining fluid and blood volume; it supports muscles in contracting, and it helps nerve cells communicate,â she explains. On average, adults should aim to consume between 2,600 and 3,400 milligrams per day.
While bananas and plantains arenât the highest sources of protein, they still contain about two-and-a-half grams and close to two grams per cup, respectively, so if youâre already eating a protein-dense meal, this tiny boost can help you reach your goal.
Toss in one cup of walnuts if you want additional protein power; one cup of chopped walnuts contains nearly 18 grams of protein.
If you want to avoid oil, Pendleton suggests adding mashed bananas or mashed plantains in lieu of the fat in a 1:1 ratio. So, since the pumpkin recipe listed on TJâs boxed mix calls for one-half cup of oil, you can add one-half cup of either fruit. Then, follow the rest of the recipe according to the packageâs instructions.
4. Stir in Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter for a Reeseâs Cups Twist
This recipe is inspired by a Halloween favorite: Reeseâs Cups. All you have to do is fold dark chocolate chips and peanut butter into the pumpkin batter along with the other ingredients listed on the box. This trio of flavors will blend together and melt once the mix goes into the oven.
Adding just two tablespoons of peanut butter will supply you with a little over seven grams of protein. One cup of dark chocolate chips brings just under 18 grams of protein. That way, you can dig into this while on a trail break and fill your body with fuel. Add a scoop of peanut butter atop your pumpkin bread for more protein and an extra gooey bite.
On top of filling you up, this snack is loaded with magnesium, too, says Singer. Magnesium is essential for repairing and maintaining your muscles.
So, your dark chocolate addition will fill this loaf with close to 517 milligrams of magnesium. (FYI: On average, adults should aim to consume about 310 to 420 milligrams.)
Now, go ahead and dig into this decadent treat and enjoy the mouthfeel of melted chocolate and warm peanut butter oozing from the center.
5. Add in Oats and Raisins
Taking after the classic oatmeal raisin cookie, this upgrade takes less than two minutes to complete and fills your recipe with comforting flavors. The dried fruit adds a chewy-candy-like texture to the loaf.
Oats and raisins are also loaded with protein and iron, says Alyssa Pacheco, a registered dietitian based in Boston, Massachusetts. Just one-half of a cup of rolled oats contains nearly five grams of protein and roughly two grams of iron.
A cup of raisins contains slightly more than five grams of protein and almost three milligrams of iron. Making sure you get enough iron each day keeps you feeling energized. Sufficient iron intake can keep your hair looking lustrous, promote brain health, and boost immunity, too.
To make this recipe, add quick-cooking or instant oats to your batter instead of steel-cut oats, which take longer to become tender while baking. Add one-half of a cup of oats and one cup of raisins to the mixture and bake as usual with one box of this mix.
The cinnamon flavors from this pumpkin spice mix will pair well with the sweet notes from the raisins, allowing you to easily transform this treat into a yummy fallâand nutrient-dense delight.

A Texas man who went viral after he bought a Taylor Swift-themed guitar at auction for US$4,000, only to destroy it with a hammer seconds later, says he pulled off the stunt for a laugh and claims thereâs no ill will intended.
Gary Estes, 67, garnered the ire of many Swifties over the weekend when video was posted to social media that showed him smashing through a Swift-branded guitar at a charity event.
Heâd won the coveted instrument, emblazoned with images of the pop superstar, at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas. Seconds after approaching the stage to retrieve the item, he smashed it with a hammer 17 times.
âGuess we donât need the wall hanger,â the auctioneer joked before saying, âHey, Gary, now take that and hang up that busted thing.â

The video, uploaded to TikTok by event attendee JD Cobb, immediately went viral. Many saw it as an act of debasement related to Swiftâs recent endorsement of Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.
U.S. election 2024: Will Taylor Swiftâs endorsement of Kamala Harris affect the vote?
âWeâre in an area (Ellis County) where Trump is pretty prevalent,â Cobb told USA Today, confirming he also thought it was meant as a slight against Swift. âEspecially among country type folk, not a lot of people here like Taylor Swift.â

But Estes insists it was just a joke and ânothing mean about it.â
âThere was nothing malicious or anything about it,â he told NBC News on Tuesday. âIt was just a joke at an auction that we had to raise money for kids, right? And thatâs all it was. There was nothing mean about it, nothing bad about it. It was just a joke that they were making up on the stage, and we just followed through with a joke.â

However, he did say that heâs a Donald Trump supporter and hasnât been keen on Swiftâs support for Harris.
âYes, you can connect the dots there,â Estes said.
Auctioneer Craig Meier, a spokesperson for the event, told USA Today heâs been taken aback by the online reaction.
âIt has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasnât meant to be mean or malicious,â he said in a statement. âHe was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politicsâŚ. It was just a funny thing that happened at our annual event. The crowd thought it was hilarious.â
âThese old boys sure are setting an incredible example for their children,â one fan commented under Cobbâs video. âDesecrating a womenâs worth. Their wives must be so proud.â
I donât understand the hatred for Taylor Swift, but I *really* donât understand people who think spending $4K on a guitar theyâll destroy actually punishes Taylor Swift in any way. https://t.co/lLkY7msWpi
âBunch of old men mocking a young accomplished woman â compensating for their inadequacy,â wrote another.
Swift fans, however, might get the last laugh in the saga â while initial reports said that the guitar was signed by Swift, sources close to her merch company told Variety the instrument did not bear her signature, nor was it ever used by her.
It appears that the guitar is once again being auctioned off, but this time on eBay. A listing shows a guitar covered in smashed-in holes and promises all proceeds will go to helping local kids participate in agriculture education programs. As of publication, bids for the smashed-up guitar have reached $4,400.

More than a hundred new sexual assault allegations have been made against Sean âDiddyâ Combs, with a Texas lawyer revealing heâs representing 120 accusers who have shared dozens of new, shocking claims.
Texas-based lawyer Tony Buzbee held a press conference Tuesday, saying âwe will expose the enablers who enabled this conduct behind closed doors. We will pursue this matter no matter who the evidence implicates.â
âMany powerful people ⌠many dirty secrets,â the lawyer said of the allegations, per NBC News. He said his team has âcollected pictures, video, texts,â and that the list of names collected âwill shock you.â
On Friday, Buzbeeâs law firm announced it is representing more than 50 accusers who approached them with âgut-wrenchingâ stories from what they witnessed at the rapperâs alleged âfreak offâ parties.

He described the allegations as âmindbogglingâ [sic] and âdebauchery and depravity, exacted by powerful people against minors and the weak.â
He also wrote that he expects many other people to be implicated as the case and other lawsuits grow and move through the court system.
By Tuesday, the number of people taken on by Buzbee Law Firm and the AVA Law Group had more than doubled, Buzbee said. He also said that more than 3,000 people have contacted his office with accusations against Combs and that they will be filing lawsuits in various states.

âI ask that we treat these brave individuals with the dignity and compassion that they deserve as they go through this trying time,â he said during Tuesdayâs press conference. âFurther, Iâm also asking that if you have been victimized, or are a witness to the alleged behaviour, please come forward. âThe biggest secret in the entertainment industry, that really wasnât a secret at all, has finally been revealed to the world,â Buzbee said. âThe wall of silence has now been broken.â
Buzbee said that 62 per cent of this new group of accusers identify as African American, are split equally between men and women and that the youngest was nine years old at the time of occurrence. He added that 25 of the current accusers were minors at the time of the incidents, which date back to as early as 1991.
Following the news conference in Texas, an lawyer for Combs said the performer âcannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus.â
âThat said, Mr. Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors,â attorney Erica Wolff said in a statement to The Associated Press. âHe looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court if and when claims are filed and served, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.â
Freak offs, baby oil and IV bags: The shocking charges against Sean âDiddyâ Combs revealed
Last week it was announced that another woman had sued Combs, alleging the music mogul and his head of security raped her and recorded it on video at his New York recording studio in 2001. The news came one week after he was arrested and a federal sex trafficking indictment against him was unsealed.
According to the indictment, Combsâ âfreak offsâ often involved narcotic drugs including ketamine, ecstasy and GHB. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said the drugs were used to keep victims âobedient and compliant.â
The alleged âfreak offsâ were often so physically demanding that Combs apparently stocked IV treatments for those who needed to recover. The music mogul was arrested on Sept. 16 on racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution charges.

Legendary supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee for five years following a U.K. watchdog investigation that uncovered evidence of financial misconduct at her charity, Fashion for Relief.
Though the group was billed as a charitable organization that provided grants to help fund various environmental and humanitarian causes, officials said the charity was âpoorly governed and had inadequate financial management.â
The U.K.âs regulatory Charity Commission launched an inquiry into Fashion for Relief in 2021 and published a report of its findings on Thursday.
Funds that should have been used for charitable causes instead paid for luxury hotel rooms, spa treatments, room service and cigarettes, the commission wrote. Between April 2016 and July 2022, the probe found only 8.5 per cent of Fashion for Reliefâs overall expenditure was spent on charitable grants.

As a result of the misconduct, the commission barred Campbell and two others from future trusteeship.
Bianka Hellmich, also a Fashion for Relief trustee, was banned for nine years after officials discovered she received ÂŁ290,000 (about C$524,400) payment in unauthorized consultancy fees.
Another trustee, Veronica Chou, received a four-year ban.
The ban means Campbell, Hellmich and Chou cannot hold any trustee position or senior management role at a charity in England and Wales until their barring has lifted.
Officials said they were able to recover ÂŁ344,000 (about C$622,000) in lost charitable funds. An additional ÂŁ98,000 (nearly C$177,200) was also protected, according to the report. The money was paid to two other charities: Save the Children Fund and the Mayorâs Fund for London.
Campbell launched Fashion for Relief in 2005. The charity dissolved in March of this year.
The Charity Commissionâs assistant director for specialist investigations and standards, Tim Hopkins, said he was content with the result of the investigation.
âTrustees are legally required to make decisions that are in their charityâs best interests and to comply with their legal duties and responsibilities. Our inquiry has found that the trustees of this charity failed to do so, which has resulted in our action to disqualify them,â he said. âI am pleased that the inquiry has seen donations made to other charities which this charity has previously supported.â
