Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have thanked Strictly Come Dancing fans on the live show for their support, following the news of their exit.
This week, it was announced that the hosting duo had decided to leave together, having fronted the show for 21 years. The women stated they felt it was “the right time” to walk away.
And on Saturday night (October 25) Strictly returned to screens for its Icons Week, with Tess and Claudia back to host. And it didn’t take them long to address their upcoming exit…

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman address exit
On Saturday (October 25) Tess and Claudia spoke about their exit for the first time on Strictly’s live show.
Opening the programme, Tess and Claud were met with a roar of applause from the live studio audience. Tess then told viewers: “Before we get started, Claud and I announced this week that this will be our last series.”
The live studio audience then expressed their sadness and collectively shouted “awww”.
Claudia then added: “We want to thank you for your beautiful messages. We’ve got another eight weeks on this incredible show and a Strictly champion to crown.”
Tess chimed in: “And we cannot wait to spend the rest of the series with you, with our amazing couples, and of course, with these four,” as she introduced the show’s judges.

Fans react to Tess and Claudia
Fans meanwhile, were left emotional over Tess and Claudia’s message at the start of the show. On X, one person said: “Need to savour the remaining weeks now with Tess and Claudia leaving [crying face emoji].”
Another shared a meme of a crying person, while a third person said: “They dealt with that swiftly and brilliantly.”
Echoing their thoughts, someone else wrote: “The reception for Tess and Claudia tonight is so well deserved just like it has been every single week for all the years they’ve done it together and both of them talking about their departure.”
Tess and Claudia’s exit
Tess and co-star Claudia Winkleman shocked the nation this week by revealing the 2025 series will be their last.
TV host Tess has been part of the flagship programme since it began in 2004. Claudia joined her as co-host in 2014 in the wake of Bruce Forsyth’s retirement.
In her own lengthy statement, Tess paid tribute to Strictly’s professional dancers, “magnificent judges” and the countless celebrity competitors.
“You’ve filled my heart in ways I’ll never forget. I’ll miss you all so much,” she said.
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman made a shock announcement yesterday (October 23) that they were leaving Strictly Come Dancing at the end of this series.
The hosting duo decided to leave the show together, having fronted the show for 21 years. Strictly fans and dancers were left heartbroken by the statement. The women stated they felt it was “the right time” to walk away.
There have already been calls for them to return to the dance-floor again. But not as hosts… And exclusive odds from SportsCasting show us just how likely that is.

Calls for Tess and Claudia to compete on Strictly
Tess and Claudia shared a joint video on Instagram, and also gave their own personal statements. And have been hugely supported by those closest to them.
The announcement may have only happened 24 hours ago, but there is already quite a lot of speculation on their replacements. And there have been a lot of calls to get them on the show.
Pro-dancer Dianne Buswell, shared her hopes for them to be able to compete in an Instagram post dedicated to both of them.
She penned: “Tess and Claud, genuinely the coolest big sisters ever! So lucky to have got to work with you both for all these years! You will be missed dearly.
“Just a question, does this mean you can now compete on the show? If so, I bags the all girl partnership!”
Joanne Clifton also shared her hopes for them to be contestants. She penned: “I still can’t believe it. These two legends. Such a privilege to have been on the show with them. Now PLEASE come back as celebs and DANCE! Let’s make this happen!”
Fans are also hopeful that it might be happening next year. Taking to X, one penned: “Telling myself Tess and Claudia leaving is all a big hoax because they’re going to be contestants next year. Then they will just continue to present from the year after.”
Another added: “So, what I’m hearing is Tess and Claudia will be available as contestants next year…”
Tess is more likely to return (Credit: BBC/Guy Levy)
What are the chances of either of the stars to come back?
But could it actually happen? According to exclusive odds from SportsCasting, it seems likely that one of them will return in dancing shoes.
Currently the most likely is Tess (2/1), while Claudia is more of a “wildcard” (8/1).
Spokesperson Shane Orton told ED!: “With both Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepping down from their iconic Strictly hosting roles, there’s growing speculation about what’s next for the duo. A possible return to the dance floor in the future isn’t being ruled out. And it’s a move that would certainly surprise fans.
“Tess already has some form, scoring an impressive 36 for her American Smooth with Anton Du Beke on the 2008 Children in Need special. Claudia remains more of a wildcard.”
Shane continued: “At 2/1 for Tess and 8/1 for Claudia to appear as contestants, our traders at SportsCasting think a Strictly comeback could make for one of the show’s most-talked-about twists yet.”

It’s fair to say it’s been a dramatic 12 months for Strictly Come Dancing – and it’s not even the end of the year yet.
The glitzy BBC One show kicked off the new series in September, with the likes of Vicky Pattison, Alex Kingston and Stefan Dennis taking part.
However, the series so far has been hit with a ton of drama, most recently, this week, when hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkelman announced they had quit the show. There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes, too, in the run-up to their exit.
Here, ED! takes a look back at the scandals that have hit everyone’s favourite dancing show over the past 12 months…

Wynne Evans’ Strictly controversy
Wynne Evans appeared on Strictly in 2024 – and the singer and presenter had an eventful time on the show. This ended with him stepping back from the live tour at the start of the year.
He left the tour shortly after a video emerged of him making a lewd comment about Strictly co-stars Janette Manrara and Jamie Borthwick. After the scandal, Wynne issued an apology for his words.
In May though, Wynne reportedly launched legal action against tour producers for alleged medical negligence. The 53-year-old Welsh tenor is said to have suffered a double fracture and two torn ligaments after a fall during the Strictly Live tour earlier this year.
However, insiders claimed that instead of receiving proper medical attention, Wynne was bandaged up and told to carry on performing, despite being in “agony”. He is now said to be suing Phil McIntyre Entertainments, the company responsible for the tour, bringing more negative headlines for the series.

Jamie Borthwick’s BBC axe
In April, EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick found himself in the headlines following a scandal that apparently saw him brandishing a sex toy backstage on the Strictly tour.
It was reported by The Sun that 30-year-old Jamie, who played Jay Brown on the soap, had been told off by BBC bosses after filming himself waving the sex toy around backstage, along with Go Compare man Wynne Evans.
Holding up the flesh-coloured rubber toy, Jamie is reported as saying: “Look at what he bought me. I opened it up, and he surprised me with this, didn’t he? It’s so funny.”
What’s more, Jamie also found himself in hot water when a recording emerged of him using a slur against disabled people behind the scenes at a Strictly live event. The BBC then suspended Jamie for three months before confirming his exit from the soap.
In a clip obtained by The Sun on Sunday earlier this year, and casting a further cloud over the show, the actor appeared to describe the people of Blackpool as “absolute [bleep]s”.
In his statement regarding the incident, Jamie said: “I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool Week on Strictly.”
A drugs scandal reportedly hit the show this year (Credit: BBC)
The Sun reported that the BBC has launched an investigation into alleged drug use by two Strictly Come Dancing stars. The BBC said it had “clear protocols and policies in place” for dealing with any serious complaints raised.
According to The Sun, the claims of drug use were made in a legal submission to the BBC in March by law firm Russells on behalf of Wynne Evans, a 2024 contestant. Additionally, it was claimed that others have also reported allegations of drug taking on Strictly to the BBC.
In an update surrounding the story, the Metropolitan Police issued a statement to the Mirror. “On Tuesday 12 August, the Metropolitan Police received an allegation about drug-related offences,” they said.
“Police are assessing the information, and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. We won’t be commenting further at this time.”
Strictly host Tess was alleged to have been “horrified” by the reports at the time.
Thomas’ stint on the show ruffled a few feathers (Credit: BBC)
Thomas Skinner backlash
The news of TV personality Thomas Skinner taking part in Strictly 2025 was met with criticism by fans when it was announced in August.
Recognised as this year’s most controversial celeb, Thomas has been very open about being a Donald Trump fan. He has been accused of having “flirtations” with Reform UK too.
The Apprentice winner also admitted to cheating on his wife weeks after they tied the knot. Thomas claimed it was a one-off. However, the other woman insisted it was a three-month affair.
What’s more, Thomas ended up in the headlines again when he walked out of the competition’s first press event after allegedly grabbing a journalist’s phone.
However, Thomas’ Strictly journey didn’t last long. He and pro partner Amy Dowden were eliminated in the very first week.

Gioanni Pernice
Another scandal that could tarnish Strictly’s reputation is the Giovanni Pernice drama…
In 2023, the Italian pro dancer was paired with Sherlock actor Amanda Abbington, who quit the show due to a disagreement over his training methods and raised concerns over his behaviour.
Following a nine-month investigation, the results saw Giovanni cleared of the most serious claims. These claims included ‘physical aggression’. However, the corporation upheld six of the 17 complaints.
For the 2023 series, Giovanni was axed and he moved from the UK’s Strictly to the Italian version of the show. This year’s series was the first time, since the findings were reported, that Giovanni didn’t return as a pro dancer.

Tess and Claudia quits Strictly
On Thursday (October 23) Strictly hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman quit the BBC One show, with the presenters sharing a joint statement on social media.
Tess has hosted Strictly since the show’s launch 21 years ago. Claudia joined her in 2014. She previously hosted spin-off show, Strictly: It Takes Two.
The pair explained to fans that it “feels the right time” to leave. They also admitted they have “loved working as a duo”.
The BBC reacted to the shock news in a series of emotional statements. Kate Phillips, Chief Content Officer for the BBC, said: “I can’t quite believe I’m saying this. But it’s the end of an era with Tess and Claudia’s decision to bid farewell to the Strictly ballroom.
“They’ve both been such incredible hosts at the very heart of the show. Their passion and dedication has gone above and beyond. They’ve been integral to Strictly’s success over the last 20 years. But I understand why they’ve decided it’s time to hang up the glitter ball and get their weekends back.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday (October 25) at 6:20pm on BBC One.
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have announced they will be leaving Strictly Come Dancing after the latest series ends. The pair announced the news on Instagram on Thursday and said in a joint statement that “now feels like the right time” for them to depart the BBC show.
In a video, Tess said, “After 21 wonderful years on Strictly, we have decided that the time is right to step aside and pass over the baton.”Tess and Claudia’s statement”We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time. We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show. They’re the most brilliant team and we’ll miss them every day.
“We will cry when we say the last ‘keep dancing’ but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza.”What have viewers said about the announcement?Viewers shared their devastation in the comments section, with one person writing: “NOOOOOOO. The best presenting team on telly,” while another added: “End of an amazing era! What a team!”
But now that she has had a few days to digest, Balvinder has opened up about how grateful she is that Craig saved her. And revealed just how devastated she was to be in that situation again.

Balvinder was ‘crushed’ to be in dance-off
Speaking to Fleur East on tonight’s It Takes Two (October 21), Balvinder opened up on how she felt in that moment.
Balvinder told Fleur: “Really, I think my heart just sank. I felt quite disappointed. I felt we had done enough to come back from the week previous, when we were again in the bottom two. Really, I was crushed.”
As for how Julian motivated Balvinder to keep going, he admitted he didn’t really say or do anything.
He explained: “To be honest, I didn’t really say much as we had just been in there seven days ago. All I said was that I think in those situations where it is high-pressure and high-stress, sometimes the more you try to think – the worse it is.”
Balvinder even joked that while they were waiting to go back in and dance, she made Julian go on a “walk around the VIP tent and tell some jokes” to keep her mind off what was to come.
Fleur then mentioned that in a shock, it was actually Craig who had the deciding say, and chose to save the pair. And Balvinder confirmed how thankful she is.
She told Fleur: “I am so so grateful for Craig, actually. He is one of the scariest judges, I think. But on Sunday night he saved us, and I can not thank him enough.”

What will Balvinder and Julian be dancing to this weekend on Strictly?
Instead of focussing on being in the dance-off the last two weeks, Balvinder and Julian are looking ahead. For icon’s week, it was revealed the pair are taking on a quickstep to Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em.
Gushing about their partnership, Julian explained: “I have known since the pairing day, when we did a five second waltz, that Bal has it. And I am so grateful that we have the opportunity to keep going and keep dancing.”
Fleur praised the pair: “You got through. You have survived to icon’s week.”
Balvinder confirmed she is “excited” to be doing a Beyonce song, and that she is looking forward to the dance.
She said: “They are pretty big boots to fill. But how exciting that we get to burst out on the stage. And I am really looking forward to it. It is going to be fun.”

Strictly Come Dancing has said goodbye to its third couple of the 2025 series – and the result has left viewers shocked to their core.
Last weekend saw Ross King leave the competition. His exit came a week after Thomas Skinner’s Strictly journey came to an end.
Now Strictly fans have been forced to say goodbye to another pair… And it’s a result which has raised many an eyebrow with viewers at home.

Strictly results – Chris and Nadiya exit the competition
Last night on Strictly Come Dancing, La Voix and Aljaz Skorjanec were placed at the very bottom of the leaderboard. The blow came after their cha cha cha failed to impress the judges, who handed them just 12 points.
Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychokova were above them with 24 points. Meanwhile, Harry and Karen and Stefan and Dianne both finished up with 26 points.
But only one of the bottom four couples were in the dance-off, with Balvinder Sopal and partner Julian Caillon joining Chris and Nadiya in the fight for survival.
Ultimately, after both performed their routines again, it was rugby ace Chris Robshaw who was sent for an early bath, exiting the series in 13th place.
Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke saved Chris and Nadiya. Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse saved Balvinder and Julian. However, as Craig was the judge who held the deciding vote tonight, Balvinder was saved.

Viewers react
However, viewers really didn’t think Chris deserved to go, commenting that La Voix’s dance was by far the worst of the night. Others were upset that EastEnders star Balvinder found herself in the bottom two for the second week running.
One said: “I don’t understand why Balvinder isn’t getting the support. She is incredible and her Paso was brilliant.” A second commented: “Bal was SENSATIONAL tonight. how the fudge is she in the bottom two, AGAIN?! especially over La Voix who was scored a 2! Absolutely ridiculous. I’m so glad Bal is through but she shouldn’t have been in the dance-off.”
A third commented: “I can’t believe Balvinder was in the dance off again, why? I voted for her, but she clearly doesn’t have the public support, which is a great shame.”
“Noo! Chris wasn’t great, but La Voix was dreadful!” said another.
Many thought La Voix should’ve exited the competition (Credit: BBC)
“Who on earth voted La Voix this week? Thoroughly deserved to be bottom and should have been bottom two and eliminated as both couples in dance off danced better this week,” another declared.
“Love La Voix but I was convinced she would be in the bottom two tonight. And it was warranted sadly. It was a car crash. I’m not sure people aren’t seeing in Balvinder – I think she’s what Strictly is about and seems lovely,” another said sadly.
However, this morning (October 19), the couples in the bottom two and the pair going home has been revealed, and fans are furious.

Strictly results revealed in spoiler
Late last night, a spoiler for tonight’s results show dropped on Twitter. And, while we won’t be spoiling it here, what we can tell you is viewers are very unhappy about what went down. Complaints poured in once the results went live, with many commenting that the wrong couples were in the dance-off and another pair should’ve left the competition.
“I don’t understand!” wailed one viewer. Another added: “This is a joke. Something is very wrong with the public.” “Maybe not having the phone voters is affecting the results?” another pondered. “A great shame,” declared another.
“Might have been a mistake doing the show,” another said. “Something just must not be clicking for viewers with this partnership,” said another. “Wrong person went,” said another.

Strictly Week 4 leaderboard
Last night’s show saw La Voix and Aljaz Skorjanec at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 14 points. Their cha cha cha went spectacularly wrong, with Shirley Ballas awarding the pair a 2!
Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova’s salsa earned them 24 points. His lifts were highly praised, but he still ended up in second to last place on the leaderboard. Just above him was Harry Aikines-Aryeetey’s and Karen Hauer’s rumba, with 26 points, and Stefan Dennis and Dianne Buswell’s Charleston, also on 26 points.
So who’ll be in the dreaded dance-off? And who’ll leave the competition? Find out on the Results Show tonight…
The Strictly Results Show airs tonight (Sunday, October 19) at 7.15pm.
Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left “crying” at their screens as Alex Kingston makes “Strictly history”.
Tonight (October 18) Strictly Come Dancing returned with the remaining celebrities battling it out to stay in the competition.
But it seems Alex Kingston has impressed fans and judges so much that they think she could make it to the final. And she impressed so much she received her very first 10.

Alex Kingston emotional as she makes ‘Strictly history’
Alex and her dance partner Johannes Radebe performed a rumba. And the beautiful dance left quite a lot of people “emotional”.
After the successful dance, judge Shirley couldn’t hide her love for the performance and had to physically get out of her seat to praise.
When Tess directed Alex to Shirley standing on her feet, clapping, Shirley actually headed over to see her.
She told Alex: “I have to come down, I have to come down here. I have to tell you – I’m going to get emotional. In all my time on Strictly I have never seen a pair of legs work like that. Every closing place. Every forward turn.
“Just an absolute perfect routine for me. The choreography was stunning. The way the chemistry was between the two of you was portrayed beautifully. May I give the queen a kiss?”
Shirley gave Alex a huge and a kiss on the cheek, with telling the star: “That’s never happened before in Strictly history.”
But that’s not the only historical thing for Alex to achieve. When she was receiving her scores, Alex and Johannes were shocked to see Shirley give them a 10.
Their combined score was 36. Shirley gave them a 10, Craig gave an eight. Both Motsi and Anton gave a nine.
After they recovered from their initial shock in the Clauditorum, Claudia Winkleman wanted to let them know they had made another historical moment.
She told them: “We have never, ever had a ten for a rumba before. Jo’s crying and you’re tearful.”
Even the celebrities in the background were shocked, clarifying: “Ever?” to which Claudia confirmed: “Ever. Ever.”

Strictly fans ’emotional’ following the performance
Immediately after the performance, Strictly fans headed straight so social media to heap praise on the star.
One penned: “Oh Alex. That was beautiful.”
Another added: “And now I am crying at Alex Kingston and her amazing legs.”
A third wrote: “Johannes is actually the sweetest ever. I adore him. His reaction was amazing.”
“I’ve watched that dance three times already. Absolutely beautiful. Bravo Alex and Johannes.”
A fourth adoring fan penned: “My God. That Rumba. Alex and JoJo. Simply beautiful.”

After disappearing from Movie Week, Stefan Dennis and Dianne Buswell will be back this week. However, his wife, Gail, revealed the frantic phone call she received from him about the news of the illness that prompted him to pull out of the performance. See the full story here.
Strictly It Takes Two tonight (Tuesday, October 14) saw Balvinder Sopal discuss being in the dance off on Sunday night’s show (October 12).
Balvinder and her pro dance partner, Julian Caillon, danced off against Ross King and Jowita Przystal on Sunday, with Ross being sent home by the judges.

Strictly star Balvinder Sopal on being in the dance off
“The footwork for me was by no means very good,” Shirley said at the time.
“Hold on, hold on, because I do believe that Balvinder is going to go far. But she’s not going to go far if everything is mushy and cushy and ‘oh you’re just great’. I want her to learn something. I want you to pay attention to a heel turn. Heel turns were missed. The slows weren’t quite there. The quick quicks looked a bit stuck. So I believe that with all this beauty and finesse that you have given, you are stunning, but footwork will need attention.”
Shirley then gave them a score of six.
Speaking about the foxtrot, Balvinder said: “Well, I’m very proud. When I watched it back, I thought it looked absolutely beautiful. We played the parts really beautifully. I think audiences connected with it as well. You know, there was a real warmth to the foxtrot. And it was beautiful to dance as well.”

‘Something went amiss’
Continuing, Balvinder laughed: “I felt like we were connected, but something went amiss.”
The star then went on to say that each week, it gets “easier” confidence-wise as she knows the “formula now”. She added that it helps having an audience there, cheering them on and wanting them to do well.
Balvinder then went on to speak about the “incredible” support she’s received over the weekend.
“My phone was on fire with messages of support and people disagreeing with the outcome,” she then said.

The star then continued, saying that the support “kind of restored a little bit of confidence in me, you know, that we are hitting all the right tones with the public, which is a great thing.
“I think people thought we were safe, which is maybe why they didn’t vote for us…,” she then said.
“But, you know, at the same time, there’s always going to be two couples in the bottom two, and you just never know which way it’s gonna go,” Julian then added.
Balvinder then added that they handled being in the bottom two “really well” and were “really calm”.
“I was actually more stressed about the fact that Bal was calm, because either she is pumped, she’s ready to go, or it’s absolutely fallen apart. Deep down I knew that we were going to go out there and do our thing,” Julian then added.
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw has revealed how his young family really feel about him taking part in the BBC show this year.
The rugby player has been partnered with pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova. And, while they found themselves in the dance-off a couple of weeks ago, last week they managed to avoid it – something he told ED! he was “thrilled” about.
Chris has been married to opera singer Camilla Kerslake since 2018, tying the knot after eight years of dating. The couple are parents to two sons – Wilding, four, and Hunter, one. And here, in an exclusive chat with ED!, Chris has revealed how his family are finding his Strictly come Dancing experience.

Chris’ family ‘love’ the journey
While the dreaded Strictly Curse brings about fears for relationships each and every year, Chris and his young family have adapted well to him appearing on the show. He even previously admitted he wasn’t “worried” about the curse affecting his marriage.
Now, speaking to ED!, Chris has revealed that he’s successfully managed to merge his family life and his Strictly experience. He explained: “The family and Strictly are worlds that have come together. It has been okay. And we are all loving this journey as a family.”
Not just that, but it seems his wife and kids have enjoyed spending some time with Nadiya. In fact, the trio have even had the chance to give dancing a try themselves.
Chris said: “The boys and Camilla have even had some dance lessons of their own from Nadiya. I have met some amazing new mates on the show too. They are a lovely bunch and I feel very lucky to be sharing the dance-floor with them all.”

Chris and his sons have Strictly parties
Both of Chris’ sons are still very young. But that doesn’t mean they can’t get involved in the Strictly fun. And it seems that is exactly what Chris is ensuring happens when he spends his Sundays at home.
As for what his older son, Wilding, thinks of his time on the show, Chris admitted that he is “proud” of him.
He said: “He is so proud of me.” Chris added: “He loves that I get to bring home the props so we can have our Strictly Sunday morning parties together to celebrate. The boys are my world, and to share this experience with them, it means everything to me.”

Strictly Come Dancing star Stefan Dennis appeared on It Takes Two via video message tonight (October 13) and confirmed that he and Dianne Buswell are back in the training room.
Stefan and Dianne were forced to miss Saturday night’s live show (October 11) after the Neighbours heart-throb fell ill.
However, on the BBC Two spin-off show tonight, Stefan confirmed that he’s back dancing with Dianne. It came after his wife Gail cast doubt on his future in the competition.

Stefan Dennis confirms Strictly future
The pair appeared on It Takes Two tonight and Stefan confirmed that he is planning on being back in the ballroom this coming weekend.
He also explained that he and Dianne have been back in rehearsals today.
He said: “Hi everyone. Just want to say thank you very much for all your support and well wishes while I was away last week. We’re back in the training room and, if all goes well – which it will – I’m going to be back on the floor with the lovely Dianne this Saturday. I’m looking forward to it.”
Dianne then said: “And what dance are we doing?” “We might be just doing the Charleston,” he said, as they both gave a jazz hands wave.
The Strictly pro then commented: “But honestly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the support and love. And we are very, very excited to be back in the training room. Mwah!”

What happened to Stefan Dennis last week?
Stefan and Dianne were forced to miss Saturday’s live show – a Movie Week special – due to the actor’s illness.
A statement shared on Friday night by the BBC read: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, he will not dance this weekend.”
It added: “In line with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye through to next week when they will hopefully be able to dance again.”
Stefan had been due to perform a Waltz with Dianne on Saturday night. Dressed as Shrek, they were due to dance to It Is You (I Have Loved) from the movie. Dianne did feature on the show in the Clauditorium. However, Stefan was noticeably absent.
But who survived to dance another day and move one step closer to that Glitterball Trophy?

Who left Strictly Come Dancing tonight?
Tonight’s results show (October 12) saw Ross and Balvinder in the bottom two. And, after they both performed their dances again – Ross, a Thunderbirds-themed paso doble, and Balvinder a foxtrot – it was over to the judges to cast their votes.
In a unanimous decision, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all voted to save Balvinder. Shirley Ballas, this week’s head judge, was then asked, if she had been called upon to vote, who would she have saved?
Despite what viewers saw as harsh criticism from Shirley to Balvinder on Saturday night, she still chose to save the EastEnders star. So Ross King was eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing tonight.

Ross heaps praise on Jowita
Ross told host Tess Daly: “I have loved every single minute of it. I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us, all the people who voted – they’ve been amazing. I want to thank everyone here in this room, backstage, the judges, the crew – every single person here has made me so, so welcome.”
Turning to pro partner Jowita Przystal, he added: “And, I want to thank a very special lady who has been with me through it all and has been absolutely everything: she’s been a mentor, teacher, carer… I could not have wished for a better partner, and I could not have wished to be on a better show. Thank you judges for all your remarks.”

Although the majority agreed it was Ross’ time to leave, many were sad to see him go.
One commented: “I know he wasn’t a good dancer but really wanted him to stay in it longer and see him improve.” “Correct decision. I do feel bad for Jowita though, she’s a beautiful dancer,” said a second.
“I’m honestly shocked Chris [Robshaw] was safe,” another commented. “Here we go again. Is it a dancing competition or a popularity contest? Nobody in week three is going to be perfect, but there were others who should have been in the dance-off,” another said.
Another agreed and said: “I agree that the correct one left, watching him dance was painful. However, who should have been there with him? Probably Chris, based on skills. You can’t control popularity votes through dance ability though.”
“Wasn’t expecting that!! Thought it would have been Chris!!” another declared. “I did not expect that result! She did not deserve to be in the dance off. I honestly thought it would be Chris and Ross. The right one has been voted off,” another added.
Strictly Come Dancing season one first aired in 2004, and since then, it has become something of a ritual. Every year, as the sky grows darker and the air feels colder, it can only mean one thing: a new gang of celebrities are taking to the dancefloor for the chance to win the coveted Glitterball.
As the weeks go by, we’ll be able to see this year’s Strictly line-up learn and grow as they blossom into formidable dancers. And let’s face it: at least one contestant will split from their partner and succumb to the Strictly curse.
Now that the 21st season of Strictly Come Dancing has begun, it’s time for us to take a look at where our inaugural celeb contestants are now…

Christopher Parker
EastEnders fans might know Christopher Parker better as Spencer Moon, a character he portrayed in the soap between 2002 and 2005. Impressively, he juggled his prime-time soap role along with Strictly. He was paired with pro Hanna Karttunen on the show.
The duo got all the way to the final, but sadly, just months later, Christopher tried to take his own life. According to The Sun, this was due to a woman claiming that he had lied about their relationship to hide his sexuality.
After his hospitalisation, he left EastEnders, fame and fortune behind. He retrained as a media lawyer. Chris continues to practice to this day.
Strictly Come Dancing season one cast – Jason Wood
Before joining Strictly, Jason Wood was a successful comedian who frequented the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and headlined comedy clubs. He was best known for his impressions of musicians.
He was partnered up with Kylie Jones on the show. And, in an unlucky turn of events, the pair ended up being the first couple eliminated from the show. This was despite not having the lowest votes, and Wood being described as changing from “a caterpillar to a butterfly in one week”
Sadly, at the age of 38, Jason died in his sleep in 2010, just hours after performing what ended up being his final gig.

Lesley Garrett
Opera singer and broadcaster Lesley Garrett went all the way to the semi-final with then-dancer Anton Du Beke. Since Strictly, Lesley has been awarded a CBE and she continues to perform.
However, earlier this year she opened up about a cancer diagnosis so rare that it affects less than 400 people in the UK each year. The 70-year-old singer revealed doctors found a thymoma – a tumour on the thymus gland – a tiny organ that sits below the breastbone, just above the heart and between the lungs.
She told the Mail: “Knowing there was a risk to my voice, that I could lose it and my career, was so terrifying – so unthinkable – that I had no choice but to lock my fears away. If I’d lost the ability to sing, it would have been the end of my life, really – I’d have lost an essential part of myself. Singing isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am. I’d have lost myself, and I can’t imagine what I would have done. It would have been a kind of death.
“But thanks to my wonderful NHS team and the cleverness of the technology I have made a full recovery and there has been no lasting effect on my voice. I’m so relieved and grateful, and hope that by shining a light on a rare cancer we can raise awareness and understanding of it.”

Natasha Kaplinsky
Newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky didn’t just win the first season of Strictly. She and her partner Brendan Cole were also rumoured to have been the first victims of the Strictly curse!
Both split with their long-term partners during the show, and allegedly got together once the show had ended. The pair have since married different people.
Since the show, Natasha endured a number of heartbreaking miscarriages before having her two children. She remains in broadcasting, and spends a lot of her time doing charity work.

Martin Offiah
Professional rugby player Martin Offiah made it to the semi-finals with Erin Boag. After scoring ore than 500 tries in his illustrious sporting career, Martin was inducted into the Rugby Hall of Fame back in 2013.
Since then, he’s retired from playing. But he is still involved in the sport as the official Ambassador of Wigan Warriors.

Strictly series one cast now – David Dickinson
Before going on the show, David Dickinson was already a TV mainstay as host of Bargain Hunt and This Morning’s occasional antiques expert. He reached seventh place with pro Camilla Dallerup, and in a 2018 interview, he reflected on just how much Strictly has changed since he appeared on it.
“It seemed like a bit of fun when I did it. Not quite as competitive, not quite so serious,” he said. “We did two or three hours [of rehearsing a day] instead of eight to 10 now.”
These days, he presents the show Dickinson’s Real Deal.
Claire is now in Corrie (Credit: ITV)
Claire Sweeney
At the time, Claire Sweeney was best known for her role as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside. She and pro partner John Byrnes were eliminated in week 5. But Claire’s career hasn’t slowed down since.
She’s acted in a slew of West End shows, presented shows such as 60 Minute Makeover, I’m Famous and Frightened and Here Comes The Sun. Most recently, she’s been seen terrorising pensioners as Cassie Plummer in Coronation Street.
Verona Joseph
Verona Joseph is best known for her role as Jess Griffin in medical drama Holby City. She and pro partner Paul Killick came sixth. As well as continuing with Holby City, she also appeared in Casualty and Dr Who.
Strictly Come Dancing celebrated a night at the movies tonight (October 11), but Vicky Pattison and pro partner Kai Widdrington were handed a blow after their Charleston.
Saturday’s Strictly featured a special guest appearance from Wicked star Cynthia Erivo. However, any confidence she tried to instill in Vicky in training was quickly shattered as the judges gave their feedback.

Concerns for Vicky Pattison after Strictly Charleston
Vicky and Kai danced a Charleston inspired by The Great Gatsby. And she was hoping to impress Charleston super-fan Craig Revel Horwood. However, with her routine lacking energy and swivel, Vicky was in for disappointment when Craig gave his feedback.
He told her: “It didn’t have any swivel at all. There was no double bounce either, which made it look flat and that made it look heavy. However, my darling, you got through it, and all the lifts were absolutely brilliant.”
Motsi Mabuse then told her: “Vicky, don’t be disappointed. Just remember where we were three weeks ago girl,” as host Tess Daly wrapped her arm around Vicky in a show of support.
“Don’t be sad,” Tess told her. “You were magnificent.”

Shirley Ballas then gave her comments, telling her: “I know that you get nervous when you dance but I couldn’t see them today when you danced so you’ve checked that off your week.”
Shirley then agreed with Craig’s critique and added: “I’m not really quite sure why it looked a bit on the heavy side for me. It needed more bounce. It came across as a little bit heavy,” as Vicky – who has been under the weather this week – looked even more downhearted.
‘The judges have destroyed her confidence completely’
Over on the Strictly hashtag on Twitter, support and concern for Vicky poured in.
“The judges have destroyed Vicky’s confidence completely,” said one. “First of all, reminding Vicky all the time that she’s a nervous person is just going to make her more nervous. Secondly, the judges could see she was getting upset and still piled on the negatives without them being constructive,” said a second.
“‘However my darling, you got through it’ and ‘you can check that off your list’ and ‘it looked heavy’. The way I’d have an absolute meltdown if someone said that to me after I’d just tried my best. Those comments were so harsh,” said another. “Oh Vicky is breaking my heart,” another said of the star. “Oh bless her, Craig’s comments have really upset her,” another commented.
“Hope Vicky Pattison gets more confident as the competition goes on. She can do it!” another added.

‘The nerves got to her again’
Others agreed with the judges, though. “A good attempt at the Charleston from Vicky. A lack of swivel and fluidity was a shame. She had a chance to let loose this week and still either held herself back or the nerves got to her again. When you think of Balvinder [Sopal] last week, that was bouncy. This wasn’t.”
However, up in the Clauditorium as the scores rolled in, Vicky’s mood was boosted. While Craig gave her a 5, Motsi and Anton Du Beke awarded 7s, and Shirley gave a 6, leaving Vicky ecstatic.
Strictly’s results show airs tomorrow night (Sunday, October 12) at 7.15pm on BBC One.
It was announced on Friday that the all-Aussie pair, Dianne Buswell and Stefan Dennis, won’t be performing tonight as Stefan is unwell. Announcing the news, the official Instagram account for Strictly Come Dancing shared a post which read: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest, and as a result, he will not dance this weekend.
“In line with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye through to next week when they will hopefully be allowed to dance again.”
It hasn’t been confirmed why Stefan has fallen unwell, but one woman ready to wish him better was his wife of 25 years, Gail. She shared a gushing message to her husband, sharing more details about his situation.
“A year ago, almost to the day, I got a frantic call from @neighbours , saying that Stefan was being rushed to emergency. Then this week … a frantic call came again,” wrote Gail on Instagram. “Thankfully he will be ok, but I know he will be so sad and extremely disappointed that he can’t perform this week on @bbcstrictly .. but believe me, these two moments have been the only things that have kept him from going to work! He is such a super trouper. So please rest up darling, your body is shouting at you again. Make sure you listen!.”
The reality star is one of the many famous faces taking part in this year’s series of the glitzy BBC One show. Earlier this week, she was due to appear on It Takes Two, but was forced to pull out of the Strictly companion show due to her health.
Vicky Pattison later issued an update and shared a pic of her receiving an IV drip. And on Thursday (October 9) the presenter returned to screens for spin-off show It Takes Two.

Vicky Pattison returns to Strictly It Takes Two
On Thursday (October 9) Strictly’s It Take Two returned to screens with Fleur East back at the helm. On the show, she chatted to stars Vicky Pattison and pro dancer Kai Widdrington.
Last week, the pair performed a Foxtrot to Rein Me In by Sam Fender that went down a treat with the fans and judges, whom awarded them 24 points.
Talking about the routine on It Takes Two, Fleur told Vicky: “You were absolutely beaming after your performance, how were you feeling?”
Vicky replied: “I was really nervous. I just wanted to do it justice with it being that beautiful song by Sam Fender, it being one of Kai’s dances and I did feel the pressure but we did okay…”

Vicky’s future confirmed
Confirming that she is well enough to dance this weekend, Fleur revealed Vicky and Kai will be performing a Charleston to the song A Little Party Never Killed Nobody, in a The Great Gatsby themed performance for Movie Week.
“The scene that we’re doing is a really famous party scene from The Great Gatsby,” Vicky said.
She explained: “Everyone is dancing, drinking, the champagne is flowing. They are letting their hair down and having a good time. I’m sorry Fleur but that’s a bit of me! I don’t even have to act!”
Meanwhile, viewers watching It Takes Two were delighted to see Vicky back, following her illness. On X, one person said: “Love Vicky.”
Another added: “Vicky feels so genuine.” A third chimed in: “Love this pairing so much. Can’t wait for her Movie Week dance.”
Former Strictly star Vincent Simone has exclusively spoken out after viewers were not impressed with show’s changes to its results show.
The 2025 series is in full swing and Movie Week is just around the corner. Last weekend, Thomas Skinner and Amy Dowden were the first couple booted off.
While many were left divided over the result, they were also distracted by the show’s new format.

Strictly viewers react to ‘new format’ following first results show
After viewers found out which couples had landed themselves in the bottom two, the other two celebrities who were safe did not return upstairs for an interview with host Claudia Winkleman.
Fans also noticed that the entrance music and tense song played during the show’s elimination process is not the same. After 23 series, the Strictly’s format has felt like a tradition for viewers.
Naturally, they reacted online with disappointment.
“I feel sorry for the last two safe contestants who don’t get to speak in the Clauditorium and the music is weird,” one user wrote.
“One thing I didn’t like was not hearing from the last two that got through,” another shared.
“Is it me or is the new format of the results show awful,” a third said.
“Farewell old tension music much missed,” a fourth expressed.
“Just watch the result show, the new format is stupid, can production stop change the traditional things? First entrance music, now two more couples can not get interview? What’s your problem? This show already losing vibes and production pushing it,” a fifth wrote.
Vincent shared his opinion following the backlash from results show (Credit: Splashnews.com)
‘It puts more pressure on the couples’
Following the complaints, Vincent shared his opinion exclusively with ED!
“Things need to evolve – shows, people, everything,” he said.
“I did like it this year, I liked that it was a bit different and left the couples waiting longer. It made it more interesting, even though it might be a bit more upsetting for them.”
Vincent insisted that the “only negative” is when the call out order for who is safe is “random”.
He added: “If you’re not called early on, it can be nerve-wracking waiting there, wondering if you’re safe. But on the other hand, it can push people to work even harder the following week.”
“From a viewer’s perspective, I think it’s a good change. It puts more pressure on the couples and adds to the excitement. When you’re down to the last few waiting, it really gets the audience going.”
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden appeared to get teary-eyed on It Takes Two this evening (October 6) as she spoke about her early exit from the show.
Last weekend, the first star was eliminated from the dance show, and unfortunately for Amy and partner Thomas Skinner, their time was up. While many fans thought it was the right decision, they all wanted more for Amy Dowden.
Amy has had a tough few years after her cancer battle, and having to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing last year due to injury. Everyone was excited to see her make her return, and now she has left after just two weeks.

Amy Dowden emotional on Strictly It Takes Two
Strictly favourite Amy Dowden appeared to get teary-eyed during her and Thomas’ exit interview with It Takes Two host Janette Manrara – who was covering tonight’s episode as Fleur East was at a wedding.
As the pair appeared on the sofa, they were quizzed on all things to do with their Strictly exit, including how they both felt.
And it seems Amy was pretty upset that the pair have gone. When Janette asked the dancing pro what she will miss about working with Thomas, Amy appeared to get emotional.
She revealed: “It was his work ethic. But also the laughs in the studio. Just getting to know Tom. It was a short but sweet time.”
Amy also praised Tom for his learning abilities, reminding everyone he had never danced before.
She admitted: “I was so impressed. An absolute beginner. In terms of the entertainment world, you are not an actor or performer. I was so proud of you. And the development from the first day learning to get on the dance floor. You worked so hard, and it was so much fun.”
Viewers were left upset watching Amy get emotional on the sofa, wishing she was able to stay on the show longer.
One viewer penned: “Hopefully they will bring Amy back for the Christmas special this year. I will miss her dancing with a partner for the rest of this series. I wish she was given a better celebrity.”
Another added: “I am absolutely devastated for Amy. But don’t worry everyone, 2026 will be her year.”
“I feel so sorry for Amy Dowden,” a third fan commented.

Thomas Skinner reveals his family are ‘gutted’ he is out
During their interview, Thomas – who called Amy his “friend for life” – also opened up on how he feels about getting eliminated on the first vote off, and even gave an insight into his family’s reactions.
When Janette asked him how those at home are feeling that he has gone he joked that he hasn’t “told them yet” before giving a real answer.
He said: “They are gutted. They are. But they love Amy. They were all watching on Saturday night and last night. They are sad. But I will obviously carry on dancing.”
As for how he enjoyed his time on the dance competition, Thomas admitted: “I loved it. It was a lovely night. I know I am not one of the best but we had such a laugh.”

Thomas Skinner has broken his social media silence after becoming the first celebrity contestant to be eliminated from this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. The businessman and social media personality went up against Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova in the dance-off during the first Results Show of the season. While Thomas and his dance partner, Amy Dowden, gave it their all with their Salsa performance, Chris and Nadiya’s Viennese Waltz ultimately won over the judges, with all four deciding to save the latter couple.
Thomas Skinner and Amy Dowden became the first couple to leave the show
Taking to social media after the result, Thomas praised his dance partner and said he was “gutted” for her. He penned (via The Mirror): “Amy Dowden is one of the most amazing persons I’ve ever met. I loved every single second dancing with her. She is an absolutely wonderful person inside and out. She didn’t deserve to be out first, I’m so gutted for her that we went so early in the competition. I know dancing means the absolute world to her. Keep on shinning, Amy. Sorry our Strictly journey was so short. But you keep on shinning girl. You deserve the world. Bosh.”
On Monday morning, Thomas shared his appreciation for the support he’d received from fans online. “Back in the van for me this morning, it’s another busy one. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend,” he penned. “I’m catching up on my messages & emails this morning, so will be getting back to everyone who needs a new mattress. Also want to say a massive thank you to all the lovely messages of support I’ve had.”
The former Apprentice star continued: “It means the world! I know I was rubbish at dancing, but it was so much fun. But back to reality. You are ten times stronger than you can ever imagine… so don’t give up!! Keep on moving forward! Let’s go smash it today. New week, new day, new start. Don’t go home until you’re proud. Bosh.”

Thomas’ Strictly exit
During Sunday’s results show, judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood all chose to save Chris and Nadiya, meaning that Thomas and Amy won the majority vote and would be leaving the competition. Meanwhile, Motsi Mabuse, who was the judge with the deciding vote, said that she would also have chosen to save Chris and Nadiya.
Thomas and Amy went up against Chris Robshaw & Nadiya Bychkova in the dance-off
When ask by host Tess Daly about his experience on the show, Thomas said he “loved it”. “I’ve never danced before and my stay was short, but Amy’s amazing,” he said. “It’s been great fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I can’t really dance that well but I’ve had fun! Thank you, Amy – sorry that we haven’t done too good, ’cause you’re a different class.”
Meanwhile, Amy said she’d “made a new friend for life” in Thomas, who she described as “adorable”. “There is a Ballroom boy in there, so I’m a bit gutted he didn’t get to do the Ballroom, but the last three years as you know have been quite difficult for me,” she said. “I lost all confidence as a dancer – but walking into the room with you with a massive smile and a laugh, you brought me back and, honestly, thank you.”
