As much as we love jet-setting off to a warm and sunny destination during the colder months of the year, there’s something about heading up the mountains for a weekend away with friends and family in a cozy cabin that gets us equally thrilled. If you’re planning on hitting the slopes while on your mountainous vacation, you have all the more reason to invest in a pair of stylish ski pants.
Whether you consider yourself a veteran or are just starting to learn how to ski or snowboard, a pair of ski pants will keep you warm and stylish as you brave the winter weather. Plus, when they’re as fashionable as they are functional, what better motivation to speed down the slope than the opportunity to show them off?
To give you a head start on packing, we rounded up the coolest ski pants to wear while you enjoy the fresh snow and crisp air. One thing’s for sure: With these pants, you’ll be the best dressed person on the slopes.
Some of you know exactly which designer handbag you want to invest in. In fact, you might always reach for the same style, color, and brand each and every time, safe in the knowledge that you’ll get endless use out of it. But sometimes, the right one can be a little different than you’d expect. Case in point? White handbags have become surprising sidekicks to so many editors in the Who What Wear London office.
Bright-white handbags, like shoes, had a reputation for being tacky and cheap looking for a long time. However, if you look at the bags from Gucci, Chloé, and Prada, you’ll find that many of the most elegant styles are actually in an ivory hue. White handbags might seem like a summer accessory, but they look just as good with chunky knitwear, beige blazers, white boots, and oversize snuggly coats.
To prove that point, we’ve rounded up a few ways the fashion set is styling white bags along with the 24 best white bags to shop at every price point. All of the bags below disprove this old-school “tacky” style rule and show that this is one of the best bags you can buy right now.
These days, it seems like denim washes, fits, and rises cycle through periods of popularity every week rather than a decade. (Remember actual trend cycles? Me neither.) Because of that, reporting on such changes in the jeans space can, at times, feel repetitive. I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’ve chosen to focus my time and energy on the ways that chic people are wearing their jeans as opposed to the types of jeans they’re wearing. And in 2023, there’s one particular styling method that’s taking the fashion world by storm.
Canadian tuxedos aren’t exactly new, but then again, what is? Like everything else in fashion, the trend of wearing denim with denim has a tendency to return to the sartorial zeitgeist every few years, always with a fresh, modern look that makes us remember why we loved it so much the last time it was cool. And by the looks of my Instagram feed, 2023 is gearing up to be the latest year afflicted. Ahead, see how fashion girls are doubling up on denim in the early stages of the new year.
A trend you can actually wear is so appealing. After all, what’s better than something that’s both stylish and practical? As we layer up in our large puffer coats and pile on the warm accessories, there’s one classic winter trend not to overlook: leather gloves.
Though you might have initially associated gloves with the prim-and-proper iconic styles of decades past, the cold-weather accessory is officially back. Whether you live in an area with regular snowstorms or you’re taking a vacation to a place with them, a pair of leather gloves for women is sure to dress up any outfit you wear this season.
Ready to add a pair to your wardrobe? Shop our favorite gloves on the market and protect your hands from getting too cold this season. Trust us—you won’t regret it.
Loads of Hollywood A-listers hit the red carpet in style, but we couldn’t help but notice an emerging trend amongst a select few: flower appliqués. Rather than the typical diamond or bow accessory, stars opted for a more romantic choice this season. Flower motifs and prints are inherently romantic and eye-catching, making them a natural choice to stand out on a red carpet.
First we saw Jenny Slate in an elegant green Rodarte silk slip dress. Slate’s gown was embellished with a large green flower appliqué at the center of her neckline, drawing our immediate attention to the elaborate flower detail. Slate accessorized with matching green dangling earrings and emerald rings.
Academy-Award winner Eddie Redmayne donned a Valentino chocolate brown suit with a similar giant, satin flower rosette on his blazer. Another flower-pinned-on-the tux was spotted on Chris Perfetti. The “Abbott Elementary”actor sported an all black ensemble with an intricate flower pinned to his lapel.

If you read Who What Wear on the reg, you know that we tend to make a lot of trend predictions. Based on what we saw coming down the runways, infiltrating Instagram, and landing at our favorite retailers, we called out the next big non–skinny jeans trend when it was first bubbling up. Well, that was at the start of last year, and if you cut to the present day, the denim trend in question—high-rise wide-leg jeans—has fully taken over the fashion scene.
I’ll just say it: We were right. If you don’t already know what we’re talking about, these full-length jeans are defined by a trouser-like wide leg and a waist-cinching high rise. We know that wide-leg jeans can be intimidating if you’re used to wearing more fitted styled (ahem, skinnies), which is why the high rise is crucial here. It hugs you in all the right places and creates some nice dimension for the overall silhouette. Some of the standout pairs defining the trend include the Citizens of Humanity Annina Jeans, a Who What Wear–editor favorite.
We went ahead and sourced the aforementioned pairs along with more of the best wide-leg jeans on the internet right now. You know, just in case you wanted to get in on the trend, too. Keep scrolling to shop all our favorites and glean inspiration on how to style them along the way.
Like us, you probably have a stack of leggings in your closet waiting to be paired with the rest of your wardrobe in fresh ways. That’s where legging-loving celebrities and models come in. Comfort has undoubtedly been a priority over the last couple of years, as seen in the outfits of It girls everywhere, which will surely provide plenty of inspiration for wearing leggings in the future.
But since celebrities have been wearing leggings out and about since the dawn of time (basically), we thought we’d check in on what they’re not styling leggings with as much anymore. The classic item may never die, but celebs are finding newer ways to style them and we’re duly taking notes. For example, Kendall Jenner went with a sleek look consisting of a shrug and high-waisted leggings, and Jasmine Tookes created a polished ensemble with a matching beige legging and tank set and comfy Ugg boots. No matter where you like to wear yours, you’re sure to find a few outfit ideas for how to wear leggings in this roundup. Check out the looks along with our legging-outfit tips ahead.
The moment I knew that I had finally made it to the fashion side of TikTok is when I saw Maddie White’s bubbly persona managing to make a seemingly impossible skirt into a fashion moment.
We’re but eight days in 2023, and yet the year is already brimming with viral or potentially viral items and trends that are sure to go on to reign throughout the next 357 days. Thanks to platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where content is spit out every second of every day, there’s no need to wait months to determine what’s going to be big for the Q1. We already know it, and yes, Ugg’s ubiquitous new Classic Ultra Mini Platforms play an integral part in the discussion.
But the everywhere-I-look booties aren’t the only items taking over our feeds and in-person reality at this very moment. Rather, 2023 has racked up its fair share of year-defining fashion pieces, from Loewe’s padded leather bomber jacket—which has already been spotted on Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Taylor Russell—to Mango’s faux-shearling alt for Totême’s cult-favorite and often sold out jacket. (Mango’s version is equally likely to sell out, so act fast while it’s restocked.) To see and shop them all, keep scrolling.
Sherpa-lined aviator jackets and fur bomber jackets are one of my most anticipated outerwear trends of this season. To prove my point, look no further than retailers like Mango and Zara (or Loewe, for splurges) which are staples among Spanish women, spearheading the style across different countries. I picked up a vest bomber jacket during my trip I saw at least six people wearing it on the street, and truth be told, it may have been the best purchase I’ve made in a while.
To put it plainly, 2022 was the year of the cutout, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the various iterations from Jonathan Simkhai’s iconic waist cutouts to Euphoria-esque G-string pants. This year, what the cutouts reveal is just as important as the cutouts themselves—hence I dub the evolution of this trend “negative space.” While cutouts imply something being taken away, the negative-space trend focuses on what fills the void. Whether it be vignettes of the human form or an interesting web of shapes created via layering techniques, this trend plays tricks on the eyes, often leaving you with more questions than answers.
Many refer to this evolution of cutouts as subversive, drawing on the tradition of Rick Owens and others who subvert the industry’s notions of beauty to create something beautiful themselves. It feels very continuous in this tradition while also extending the field of market options to include traditionally pretty versions of the trend too, so there’s truly something for everyone.
Keep scrolling to see my favorite six ways to get in on the trend. Trust me—you’ll understand why every designer is tapping in.
If there’s one item that you need to add to your wardrobe this winter, it’s a handbag. Allow me to explain why. Winter is the time of year when wardrobe staples are repeated the most. You’ll find yourself wearing your favorite coat and jeans endlessly but will always be looking for ways to mix things up. This is where a statement bag comes into play. Your bag may be the first thing that people notice when they see you, so now might be the time to pick a new one up.
The past few seasons had runway collections that were all about making a statement with bags. We’ve officially said farewell to the micro bags, and these bigger iterations are catching all of the attention right now. You can’t go wrong with testing out the below six handbag trends.
I am a bit behind on my annual tradition of a closet clean out at the start of the year, but I’m already preparing mentally for what will be an emotionally challenging affair. You see, I have a deep connection with every item of my clothing. I fondly associate a memory with each thing that I own, and that’s especially true with denim. Since denim is so versatile and timeless, my denim drawers are comprised of the most worn items in my closet.
That being said, there are some denim trends that have come and gone as of late. After some difficult conversations with myself, I’ve gathered the strength to part ways with these trends knowing it will be a few years before they come back into play. (Plus, I’m working with a small NYC closet, so I need the space.) Below, find the five trends I’m bidding adieu to.
I personally lived through the 2010s fashion scene, and there were some things that defined it that stood out both then and now. One thing that is undeniable is that it was a moment of “indie sleaze,” when leather leggings, smudged eyeliner, and indie rock permeated fashion. Interestingly, Celine’s recent runway show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles has reintroduced all of the above (and more) back onto the fashion scene for the coming year. This is just one moment where all signs pointed to the resurgence of 2010s style.
That isn’t where it stops, though. Reflecting on the spring/summer 2023 runways, Lauren Santo Domingo also called out the impact of style from the early 2010s and how it will impact fashion in 2023. “For day-to-day life, I’ll be taking cues from the ‘model off duty’ trend,” Santo Domingo tells Who What Wear. “It’s really about channeling that effortless, easy cool that harkens back to the original days of mass street style in the early ’10s when photographers would lens models making their way between shows in their own casual attire—but with hair and makeup from the show.” While many fashion conversations in the last year have centered around the comeback of Y2K fashion, it turns out the 2010s will be the throwback fashion to have your eye on in 2023. Ahead, see how we’re expecting it to play out this year.
Leave it to celebs to be fashion’s earliest adopters. Sure, we may still only be at the crack of 2023 but our favorite A-listers are already testing out one of next season’s most notable emerging trends: over-the-knee boots. Now, knee boots have reigned supreme for several seasons but based on our evidence, spring 2023 is when our staple boots will start creeping ever higher over the knee.
They’ve been making a big impact on recent runways, too, cameoing at Diesel, Fendi, Jil Sander, and Bottega Veneta, just to name a few and while our initial reaction was one of hesitation since OTK boots are notoriously tricky to style, we’re positive that they’ll become the biggest boot trend of spring 2023 after seeing how celebs are wearing them.
From Rihanna to Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa to Margot Robbie, the sheer number of celebrity outfits we’ve spotted with over-the-knee boots have us questioning whether they’ll replace our knee boots for good. All the proof your need is up ahead.
As with the years that preceded it, 2023 is sure to introduce a few dominating fashion items and aesthetics. It could be the result of a TikTok video repeatedly going viral (see: Matilda Djerf‘s voluminous hair and just as voluminous blazers), or the It-girls of the moment cementing something as the next highly-coveted piece (see: the Balenciaga Le Cagole, pre-controversy). These trends all start somewhere, and are often more predictable than we realize.
After a year ruled — arguably more so than any other fashion era — by micro-trends, some of the most notable niches, like balletcore and gorpcore, are poised to go macro in 2023, having already made their ways to runways. To get a solid sense of what’s on the come-up, we asked industry experts about what pieces they predict will take off and how they think we’ll be dressing in the next twelve months. Whether you’re into the edginess of the denim resurgence or prefer a ballet-style cutout dress, there’s something for any and every aesthetic out there.
Balletcore-Inspired Dressing

Though fashion pulling inspiration from ballet isn’t necessarily new, 2022 certainly saw this become more mainstream than ever before.
Collections from Molly Goddard and Simone Rocha featured plenty of ruffles and floaty tulle that inspired a year’s worth of red-carpet fashion. Florence Pugh embraced this more than anyone else: The actor called on designs from the likes of Rodarte and Valentino to play with billowing tutu-like skirts and voluminous tulle sleeves, taking the typically minimalist aesthetic to a whole new level. Alison Stiefel, general manager of ShopStyle, says we can expect this level of “airy dressing” to transition into a more wearable trend into 2023.

“Searches for [lace, tulle and sheers] remain on an incline heading into 2023,” she says. “Sheers were big in 2022, and we will be seeing this style extend into feminine, lingerie details on a variety of pieces like lace bottomed skirts, tulle sleeves on tops and mesh dresses.”
Brands like Nensi Dojaka offered some of the most convincing arguments to incorporate these more feminine aspects of the style into our everyday wardrobes, not just for a red carpet moment.

Utility Over Everything

With Y2K styles such as cargo pants and gorpcore-style sneakers on track to maintain their chokehold over the industry into the new year, there are plenty more utility-based trends to look forward to.
In 2022, we saw lots of multi-functional fashion become more popular than ultra-trendy, one-time-wear pieces, suggesting the prioritization of longevity and practicality. Trend forecasting group WGSN believes this will continue to resonate: Per a report shared with Fashionista, “survivalist, protective design and performance attributes” are the new luxury. People are looking for clothes that don’t just look pretty, but also serve purpose in their everyday lives.
Rickie De Sole, women’s designer fashion and editorial director of Nordstrom, is buying into the idea of “the ‘new uniform,’” which she defines as “practical functionality and relaxed tailoring combined for a polished uniform of elevated basics with subtle Y2K details.” This idea of “practical functionality” can also translate to the impending big-bag revival, where many are opting for more storage in their purse, rather than a cute micro-bag that forces you to pick between wallet or phone.
Reimagined Denim
Photos: Imaxtree
Denim was a big trend on the Spring 2023 runways, but these weren’t your average blue jeans. JW Anderson showed tops with denim collars while brands like Diesel and Masha Popova presented refreshing takes on the construction of the well-loved material. Stiefel sees “reconstructed and deadstock design denim” playing a major role in the trend cycle: “[Brands] are doing a great job recycling old denim and turning them into fresh, creative styles.”
Fresh takes on the denim jacket are proving to be where people can find creative spins on a classic favorite. This trend is no coincidence: The utility factor pushes the piece further.
“As we continue to think about hard-working pieces that build the perfect wardrobe, a denim jacket is key,” says Jodi Kahn, VP of luxury fashion at Neiman Marcus.
From denim corsets and repurposed waistbands to expertly manipulated ruching, there are apparently plenty of new ways to enjoy denim (another regression into Y2K-era fashion).
At the start of every year, I’m always inspired to browse around what my friends and colleagues are writing about. Namely, I’m looking at things on our wish list, this year’s upcoming trends, and what’s worth your money in a sea of not-so-great products brands promise to deliver on in 2023. Now that New Year’s Eve has come and gone, the only thing on my mind is filling my closet with this year’s splurge-worthy and affordable finds. As always, Shopbop never fails to deliver.
Yes, 2023 promises to bring inclusive denim and anythingcore-inspired aesthetics for any rhyme or reason (hello, gorpcore parachute pants!), but nowadays, trends are fleeting, going as quickly as they come on our radar. With that said, there’s nothing quite as alluring as finding a long-lasting hidden gem of a style that’s sure to last through 2023.
Below are all the must-have finds you need to be ahead of this year’s trends. You can thank me later.
Dry January is just about wrapped, but for the non-alcoholic-beverage industry, returns have been anything but sobering. In recent years, a bumper crop of near-beer manufacturers, booze-agnostic distilleries and boutique-seltzer brands — among other similar upstarts — has reaped the rewards of folks generally looking to dry out or augment their consumption. And as we get deeper into this pandemic, there’s even more of a clamoring for cleaner alternatives that still approach the sensation of an intoxicating pint or snifter.

Entrepreneur spoke with representatives from four companies who went into 2021 with a vested interest in appealing to both passingly sober-curious and resolutely reformed consumers about marketing around Dry January with an eye on long-term customer retention. The bottom line? Their glasses are definitely more than half-full.
In the S/S 23 collections, duster coats emerged as one of the major trends poised to be huge this year. Brands including Saint Laurent and The Row sent floor-sweeping tailored coats down the runways and we ear-marked the piece as one of the key pieces to own in 2023. Unsurprisingly, celebrities are already adopting them into their winter wardrobes—proof that the sleek, statement-making staple is a great investment buy for the year ahead.
While the duster coats celebs are wearing range from oversize tailored wool styles as spotted on Ashley Olsen to elegant satin designs as seen on Zoë Kravitz to sleek leather outerwear as Kendall Jenner recently wore, their coats all have one thing in common: Long, maxi hemlines that practically touch the ground. Ahead, see how the most stylish celebrities are wearing the duster coat trend and shop their directional winter looks.
Type “French style” in your Google search bar and a plethora of images will surface that feature simple outfits like jeans and blazers and ballet flats. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, it just doesn’t reflect the reality of what French style really is. Despite the stereotype of strictly classic silhouettes, French women are just as tuned in to current trends as American women. The difference I’ve noticed is that they’re much pickier when it comes to the new styles they’ll actually wear since French women place such a high value on timelessness.
To investigate the winter 2023 trends that are passing their tests, I asked five stylish Parisians about the one trend that’s entered their closets this season—and stayed. To my delight and I think yours, too, their answers were good. Ahead, see which five winter trends are good enough for French women.
