15 Viral Shoe Trends That Are Already Defining Summer 2023

    [ad_1]

In a time when an entire phenomenon can begin and end on TikTok in the span of 24 hours, tracking what’s viral is a full-time job. In many ways, it’s my full-time job, making me the perfect person to ask when you’re looking to get in on the newest, most of-the-moment trends. Since shoes just so happen to be my personal favorite genre of study, I thought I’d answer your footwear-related requests before you even submit them by putting together a list of the trends that are already defining the season ahead.

My favorite quality of this year’s most viral shoe trends is the variety. Some are timeless favorites that come back year after year, while others feel entirely fresh and unexpected. There are the mesh ballet flats from The Row that have sparked an internet-wide debate surrounding the importance of pedicures, the Adidas sneakers that I spot at least a dozen times every single time I step foot outside in New York City, and the shapely Bottega Veneta wedges that every last one of Who What Wear’s editors can’t seem to shut up about. But those are just the highlights. Ahead, scroll through and shop the 15 most talked-about shoes of the summer.

  • The One Sneaker Brand French Women Always Reach For

The One Sneaker Brand French Women Always Reach For

    [ad_1]

Ever since I saw Phoebe Philo walk out at the end of Celine shows during her tenure wearing Adidas Stan Smiths shoes, I’ve had a pair in my closet—along with almost every single chic woman I know. The style, quintessentially elevated, has come to represent a chic je ne sais quoi about modern-day elevated dressing. I’ve worn mine with lady jackets and office-appropriate trousers just as easily as I’ve worn my Adidas shoes with jeans and oversized sweatshirts on a day where I’m running errands. If a French woman could be a pair of sneakers, she’d 100% be a pair of Adidas shoes.

More than just simple, white leather shoes, the entire Adidas brand has become synonymous with cool, French girl style over the last few years. Their Sambas represent the fun-loving, trend-forward girl hanging out around the Marais neighborhood. Ultraboost live on the feet of cool, on-the-go moms picking up produce and taking their immaculately-dressed babies to the Louvre. For the fashion set, the Stan Smith reigns superior (although, we have a soft-spot colorful Gazelles too).

If you’re anything like me, you want an affordable sneaker that can go with anything. Luckily, nearly all of Adidas’ best-selling, must-have styles are $150 or under. If these outfits can’t convince you French women are obsessed with Adidas shoes, I honestly don’t know what will. Below, shop all the pairs sitting in their carts.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Wore the Controversial Flats Trend That’s All Over Instagram

Jennifer Lawrence Wore the Controversial Flats Trend That’s All Over Instagram

    [ad_1]

I’m not going to lie. Sometimes, it can be difficult to stay up-to-date with the latest It shoe styles thanks to how many are dropping and subsequently selling out at any given moment. Every week, a new pair of sneakers, boots, sandals, or flats appear on the market just to immediately go viral on Instagram and TikTok, run out of stock, and disappear into footwear purgatory. That being said, one pair of buzzy shoes has found a way to break the cycle by refusing to lose momentum despite weeks of being impossible to buy: Alaïa’s fishnet Mary Jane flats.

Spotted on every influential Instagram feed in the fashion world, the naked flats have quickly become one of the most-wanted and hard-to-find items of the year. But as photos from this week prove, Jennifer Lawrence didn’t have any trouble getting her hands on a pair. On Wednesday, the actress was spotted walking around New York City in the black-and-silver flats, which retail for $850. With them, she kept things pretty casual, adding a baggy white T-shirt, similarly slouchy jeans, a crossbody bag from The Row, sunglasses, and a baseball cap. In other words, she wore my ideal summer outfit with the flats that everyone on my social feeds is talking about.

Though controversial—after all, see-through mesh footwear isn’t for the faint of heart—Alaïa’s fishnet Mary Janes remain one of the year’s coolest buys. That is if you can find a pair in stock. See how J.Law wore hers and shop similar styles until a fresh lot of sizes appears on Maison-Alaia.com.

  • This Is Not a Drill—Adidas Just Restocked Its Sell-Out Sambas

This Is Not a Drill—Adidas Just Restocked Its Sell-Out Sambas

    [ad_1]

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three years, you probably already know all about the phenomenon that is Adidas’s Samba sneakers and the hold the retro soccer style has on fashion people. Their allure is no big mystery or anything. With an affordable price tag, a minimal appearance, a handful of cool collaborations (from Gucci to Wales Bonner), and a long history of being worn by interesting people, there really was no other option but to be majorly successful. But no one could have predicted just how buzzy they’d become.

In 2023, classic black or white Sambas are some of the hardest shoes to get your hands on, and that’s in comparison to viral designer heels and limited-edition releases. Whether it’s a third-party stockist or Adidas itself, retailers simply cannot seem to keep these old-school sneakers in stock. That is why it was such a big, huge, major deal that when I popped onto Adidas.com yesterday to check on available sizes and found the entire selection to be in stock. But that was 12 hours ago, and already, smaller sizes in the white OG Sambas are gone. Don’t let that happen in the black option too without snagging a pair for summer. Before every last Samba disappears, scroll down and shop 2023’s most-wanted kicks.

Celebrity stylists are invaluable resources if you want to peek behind the curtain of Hollywood fashion. While you might see their handiwork all over the red carpet and on Instagram, you don’t always know the ins and outs of the getting-ready process. For instance, I’ve been fascinated to learn about what brands celebrities actually buy for themselves given the fact that they are often gifted with or loaned many of the things they wear.

So far, I’ve tapped stylist Tiffany Briseno to shed light on the jeans and underwear that celebrities buy for themselves, and now we’re turning the spotlight on sneakers. Below, Briseno shares her expert opinion on the most popular sneakers in the celebrity world and why they reign supreme.

Keeping It Casual: 7 Low-Key Shoe Styles I’m Wearing Instead of Heels

    [ad_1]

I’m a heel person through and through. No matter how many days I’ve tortured my feet in a row, I’ll still slide them into pumps or even platforms and be on my way. But lately, I’ve been noticing that flatter, more casual shoe styles have begun to pique my interest, something that almost never happens. Perhaps it’s my mind playing tricks on me in an attempt to give my feet a break, or more likely, it’s that footwear designers are stepping up their flat-shoe game. Either way, this season’s comfortable and casual shoe styles have me storing away my heels for the first time in forever.

Not just any flat shoes will do, though. For me to give up my beloved heels, even temporarily, the alternative must be good. Luckily, all seven of the casual styles ahead are just that—I might even call them great. From classic loafers and riding boots to trendy ballet flats and retro sneakers, check out all the low-key shoe styles that are worth ditching your heels for in 2023. I Just Found Summer’s Coolest Y2K Shoe Trend for Under $100

    [ad_1]

Of the many sandal styles trending this season, none excite me more than the return of Y2K wedges. Yep, the 2000s-era sandals are back and better than ever. I have a nostalgic soft spot for the comfy heel because I distinctly remember wearing this trend the first time it came around. They spark fond and carefree memories. At this point, I’m emotionally attached to wedges, and I can’t wait to get my feet into this season’s freshest styles.

I’m not talking about espadrilles today. Although, I’m a forever fan of the style. Instead, I’m focused on the sleek and modern iterations we’re seeing fashion people enamored with this season, thanks to their dominant presence on S/S 23 runways. Below, I’m sharing 27 of-the-moment styles that feel fresh for summer 2023. Zoë Kravitz Wore the Cult-Favorite Flats That Sell Out Every Summer

    [ad_1]

In recent years, Zoë Kravitz, like so many of us, has largely given up on heels, choosing to preserve her feet by prioritizing flat shoe styles that are both comfortable and undeniably chic instead. Mary Janes, ballet flats, thong sandals, and sneakers—if they’re flat and somewhat podiatrist-approved, the actress has probably worn a fashionable version. But her most recent shoe choice might be the best one she’s made yet.

Earlier this week, Kravitz was spotted walking to dinner in New York City alongside actress Margaret Qualley wearing a Canadian tuxedo from The Row with a Saint Laurent bag, The Row x Oliver Peoples sunglasses, and a perfect pair of suede Birkenstock Boston clogs. Known for their comfort and cool shape, the Boston clogs are among fashion’s favorite shoes, causing them to sell out year after year, especially during the summer. Luckily, Kravitz’s exact pair haven’t sold out just yet. Shop the $158 slip-on flats below.

The spring/summer 2023 runways held plenty of new ideas. Designers introduced a slew of cool new trends that offered both a look into the future and a nod to the past. With so many trends seemingly happening at once, it can feel impossible to differentiate between what’s more niche and what’s more mainstream. Oftentimes, I prefer to make trend purchases that will last beyond the immediate season, which is why I’ve been thinking a lot about the 2023 trends that will last all year long, not just for this spring. And I’m starting with my favorite topic of all: shoes.

After combing over the runways, my social media feeds, and the market, I’ve landed on the six shoe trends that I’m positive will have a long-term effect on 2023 and beyond. With the engineering boots inspired by the Miu Miu runway and the classic pumps that are currently having a renaissance, consider this list to be your North Star for all things stylish 2023 footwear.

Yes, it’s sometimes combined with the dreaded low-rise look, but there are plenty of options if you’d rather stick to high-waisted slouchy pants.

I Went Shoe Shopping at Nordstrom’s First Store—These Under-$150 Styles Are It

    [ad_1]

I recently visited Seattle for the first time, and funny enough, my hotel was essentially across the street from the very first Nordstrom store. (The retailer is headquartered in Seattle.) Due to my adoration for Nordy, I clearly hit up the store first before I did anything else in the city. After perusing the men’s shoe offering, I ventured up to the women’s shoe section for more browsing. Given that the Nordstrom shoe department is essentially legendary, it probably comes as no surprise that I found a smattering of amazing silhouettes that I think you’ll love.

Below, you’ll find the specific styles that piqued my interest. You’ll notice that everything included in the mix has something in common. Yep, the picks feel forward and look expensive thanks to modern design details, but all actually ring in under $150.

  • This Is the Only Boot Trend I’m Eyeing, Buying, and Shopping For In 2023

This Is the Only Boot Trend I’m Eyeing, Buying, and Shopping For In 2023

    [ad_1]

What can I say? I have a thing for shoes. Strappy sandals, ballet flats, wedges—name the style, and I could probably show you a half a dozen pairs sitting in my closet. This year, though, perhaps for the first time in my life, I’m not juggling a handful of different footwear options. Rather, my sights are dead set on just one style that, ever since 2023 began, has been taking up every inch of free space in my brain: stiletto boots.

A tall heel, a pointed toe, and a fitted, sock-like shaft, to me, make for the perfect shoe, not just for one season but all four. The ’90s-inspired silhouette has taken over the fashion world, with brands like The Row, Diesel, and Manolo Blahnik offering up hyper-elevated options while more affordable go-tos like Porte & Paire, Reformation, and Schutz are selling just as chic alternatives that won’t break the bank. That tells me these standout flat-shoe trends have longevity, so adding another pair to your collection wouldn’t be a waste.

  • I’m Freaking Out—These 6 Summer Shoes Are Anti-Trend, Old Money, and So Luxe

I’m Freaking Out—These 6 Summer Shoes Are Anti-Trend, Old Money, and So Luxe

    [ad_1]

For those dialed in, the emergence of quiet luxury isn’t just a trend—it’s a sartorial pathos that’s been around long before it went viral. Embracing this concept has never been about splurging on designer things. It’s deeper than that. If the philosophy were to be boiled down, it would be best summarized by the late Vivienne Westwood: “Buy less. Choose well. Make it last. Quality, not quantity.” Essentially, you don’t have to be rolling in dough to look good. You just have to be more intentional with your purchasing power.

You can be more thoughtful with how you shop in numerous ways, from building a capsule wardrobe to shopping from sustainably-minded fashion brands. But the easiest way is to start from the ground up (quite literally) with your footwear choices. Deciding to opt for more timeless silhouettes will keep you from continuing to run through the endless trend cycle and help you save money in the long run.

Curious about which footwear options live up to the bill? I’ve scoured 2023 runway collections and Instagram to identify six elegant summer shoe styles that minimalists rely on to add a touch of luxury to their ensembles. Whether you’ve got an off-shore trust fund or are on a strict budget, these shoes will ensure you look chic all summer (and then some).

Platform Sandals Are It, so I Found the 34 Best Pairs

    [ad_1]

Everyone has that one thing they love shopping for. For some, it’s denim. For others, it’s luxe staples or rising trends. But for me, it’s always shoes. Searching for unique and affordable heels or saving for a great pair of strappy sandals brings me more joy than I care to admit. While I don’t like to play favorites when it comes to my babies, one shoe trend has my full attention: platform sandals. And I know I’m not the only one currently in love with platform shoes. If you scroll through Instagram on any given day, you’ll see the platform’s popularity has reached new heights. This is partially due to the dreamy It-shoes floating to the top of every fashion girl’s wish list. But it’s also because there are so many ways to wear platforms.

Platform shoes are arguably one of the easiest styles to incorporate into your wardrobe right now, as you can find them in various iterations. You really can’t go wrong with any version of this shoe because they’re all cute. That said, with summer on the horizon, investing in a pair of platform sandals makes sense. So, I’ve scoured the internet to narrow down the best platform sandals to shop at every price point. From minimal to colorful, affordable to luxurious, there’s a pair ahead for everyone.

Hailey Bieber Wore the Elegant Low-Heel Shoe Trend That Looks Chic With Jeans

If you’re a fan of jeans but not a fan of sky-high heels, you’ve clicked on the right story. Hailey Bieber just wore a low-key outfit you’ll love—I know I did, and I identify as a jeans fan who likes low heels. While out and about in Los Angeles earlier this week, Bieber wore a cropped white T-shirt, mid-rise jeans, and a classic belt. She paired her simple outfit with one of the chicest and most elegant shoe trends around: kitten-heel mules.

While kitten-heel mules have been a thing for years, they’re as relevant and trendy as ever. Bieber opted for a square-toe croc-embossed pair by Jil Sander she’ll surely get years of wear from. The 2-inch heels are the perfect complement to her ankle-length straight-leg jeans. I don’t know about you, but I’m inspired to order a fresh pair of kitten-heel mules for myself. Scroll for a few of my favorite contenders, including Bieber’s splurge-worthy designer pair.

  • The Best Outfit to Wear With Sneakers, According to French It-Girl Tina Kunakey

The Best Outfit to Wear With Sneakers, According to French It-Girl Tina Kunakey

    [ad_1]

About three years ago, I published a story about the affordable items I repurchase again and again. At the very top of my list? A pair of Superga 2750 Cotu Sneakers ($69). So when I checked my inbox and saw an offer to interview French model and actress Tina Kunakey, Superga’s newest ambassador, I jumped at the chance.

Given her impeccable style, I wanted to ask Kunakey where she gets her fashion inspiration from. “My mood really inspires me, and also the place where I am,” she says. “I don’t really get my inspiration from Instagram or runway shows. I love going to shows, but at the end of the day, it’s a show. For example, I’m not really into wearing head-to-toe runway looks because I won’t be able to wear them in real life. I try to personalize them in my own way so they fit me better.”

I also asked Kunakey what her favorite outfit to wear with sneakers is, and her answer was supremely relatable. “I would say a tank top, denim shorts, and the Superga 2750 Cotu sneakers.” Sounds like my ideal outfit, too. Keep scrolling for pieces you can use to re-create it.
