  • David Archuleta hits a chord with his ‘Earthly Delights’ EP and tour

    [ad_1]

A 17-year-old David Archuleta stole the hearts of “American Idol” fans with his playful “gee-whiz” demeanor and persona. The 34-year-old has shed that image to reveal his queer, sensual side with his “Earthly Delights” EP and the single “Crème Brulee.”…

  • Kali Uchis Radiates Classic Beauty and Vibes at Toyota Center

    [ad_1]

    Kali Uchis
    The Sincerely, Tour
    Toyota Center
    September 2, 2025

Ten years ago, I was in the audience as Kali Uchis performed for the first time at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Back then, I wrote the following observation:

“[Uchis] is an odd yet satisfying mix of doo-wop, R&B and smooth/dreamy reggae with a hip-hop attitude.”

In the world of algorithms and trends, it is refreshing to see that Uchis has stayed her own course, still writing and singing lovely tracks with the same classical beauty aesthetic and mix of R&B and Latin inspired vibes.

The Toyota Center was packed on Tuesday evening with adoring fans who were also adhering to the aesthetic, many wearing cute, summer dresses adorned with hues of pinks, baby blue, and other pastel colors. Some attached flowers to their outfits as if they were extras strait out of Kali’s “I Wish You Roses” music video. All I know is that I was way underdressed and too old to be there as a 45 year old in cargo shorts and New Balance sneakers.

The night started strong with opening act for the tour, San Diego’s own Chicano Soul band named Thee Sacred Souls. Their sound is also classic, but in the backyard BBQ, driving slow in a lowrider type of way. The band consists of a horn section, drummer, a duo of funky guitar and bass, an electric organ, and the band’s secret weapon: vocalist Josh Lane.

Lane is tall and slender, and looks like a member of the Marley family. But his voice is the epitome of chill, endearing the listener with smooth vocals, a mile wide smile, and dance moves that would make Elvis nervous.

Normally, a band holds their biggest hit for the end of the set, but not this band. They came out of the gate with “Can I Call You Rose?”, which was on my personal Top Ten list of favorite tracks 2022. The track was met with a loud roar of appreciation from the audience, and indeed sounded magical in person as opposed to in my headphones.

Lane then ran into the crowd, dancing and singing across the arena floor and even up and down the aisles. He was definitely being extra and doing “the most”, but in doing so won over the crowd and provided a memory that will not fade away anytime soon. My niece Rose Marie literally jumped up and down with joy as Lane passed by our section, sliding and dancing and smiling the entire time.

After a quick intermission, the baby pink curtain was draped across the stage, and the words “Kali Uchis, The Sincerely” were projected against the backdrop. When the lights dimmed and the show was beginning, the curtains revealed Uchis sitting on a swing above center stage, with fog and spotlights allowing her to shine bright in dreamy setting.

She wore a baby blue gown, hair in an up-do, and carried a glittery gold microphone. Simply put, she is gorgeous, exuding that classic Hollywood glamour energy, with a mix of Latina sensuality and mystique. She is sexy but not overtly sexual, a combination of coquette and baby doll, secure and strong and downright beautiful. Her voice matches her look, a mezzo-soprano with a wide range, frequently hitting falsetto notes to accompany her smooth tonal vocals.

Her set list was divided into six sections and an encore, each section representing a different album from her career. She endeared herself even more to the crowd by praising Houston for being “the loudest audience in Texas by far!”

After the opening set from her “Sincerely” album, she shifted into her album “Orquídeas”, which includes some of my favorite Kali cuts, including “Muñekita” and “Igual Que Un Angel.” Her dancers surrounded around the stage wearing all white, and at one point began to carry Uchis as if she was Cleopatra, elevating her across the stage, all while Kali kept in tune and on beat.

During another section of the set, a large bed was introduced onto the stage. Uchis laid on the bed and the camera displayed her from above as she sang and shimmied center stage. Kali has a habit of dropping low to the floor, sometimes crawling, always cute and still modest. It isn’t quite twerking, but rather living on a different plane, shifting her angles and providing gracious looks.

Uchis took a small break to invite a special guest to the stage, her life partner Don Toliver. The crowd erupted in cheers, welcoming the Houston native to the scene. She then continued her set and finished with songs from “Isolation,” “Sin Miedo” and “Red Moon in Venus.” My favorite songs were performed during this section, including “After The Storm,” “Telepatia” and “See You Again”.

It definitely was marvelous to see Kali Uchis again, and we wish her continued success along her journey.

    ¡Hasta pronto!

  • After Almost 40 Years, the Pixies Can Still Conjure Up Some Fairy Dust

    [ad_1]

Musician / producer / conceptualist Brian Eno once said, “The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band.”

The Pixies have sold a few more albums than the Velvet Underground, but, in a similar fashion, the band’s influence is perhaps larger than its fame. The Pixies have been credited with giving rise to alternative rock and grunge in the early ‘90s, and Kurt Cobain famously tipped his hat by acknowledging that he was guilty of “ripping off” the band’s use of dramatic dynamics along with the soft verse / loud chorus formula.

Many of the acts who were inspired by the Pixies have fallen by the wayside, but the genuine article is still active, with a new album, The Night the Zombies Came, released late last year and a current tour that will stop at the White Oak Music Hall on Saturday, September 6.

The Pixies (l-r Joey Santiago, David Lovering, Black Francis and Emma Richardson) have been called “The Fathers of Alternative Rock.”

Guitarist Joey Santiago, an original Pixie along with vocalist / guitarist Black Francis (aka Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV) and drummer David Lovering, hasn’t had his morning coffee yet, but he is nevertheless enthusiastic about discussing the band that he cofounded in 1986. Like most trailblazers, the Pixies have never sounded quite like anyone else. There is certainly a punk rock vibe present, but surf music influences also show up, along with periodic hints of a pop-ish sensibility.

Speaking via Zoom, Santiago reflects on The Night the Zombies Came and how it differs from previous Pixies efforts. “It is different,” Santiago allows. “To me, it seems moodier. It still has the DNA of the Pixies in there, which is very important, but we can’t help that.” So what exactly is in the Pixies’ DNA? “Charles’ voice, obviously. We can’t run away from that. Just speaking for myself, I try to retain the guitar style, sound, stuff like that.”

Santiago and Black Francis met while attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Many bands who formed during the members’ formative years and continue playing together into middle age find that the initial kinship can fade over time. Almost 40 years later, how has the relationship between the two musicians changed?

“We’re still friends. We’re friends, colleagues. We switch hats. We still joke around.”

    tweet this Tweet This

“We’re still friends,” Santiago says. “We’re friends, colleagues. We switch hats. We still joke around. You know, we live 3000 miles away. I live on the other side. I live on the west coast, he lives on the east coast. We’ve got family and all that stuff.

“David and I have gotten closer over the past year. But when we go into the studio, it’s just the same. We have the work ahead of us, which is ‘How can we make these songs good?’ And that’s how it’s always been, ever since we started. I would like to have more of a rapport — like we have had — before recording another album. Just to see where we’re at. We are kind of like being a bit of strangers at the moment.”

Santiago recalls, “When [Charles and I] were rooming together, in the summertime, hot summertime in Amherst, we did listen to a lot of surf music. We thought it was fun. We thought the titles were even funnier. Do they really think of the title and write about it, or do they write it and go, ‘OK, this sounds like blah blah blah.’ You don’t know which came first. We listened to that, Iggy Pop, Stooges, Bowie. I remember we went to see the Fleshtones. We loved that band.”
Like many alt-rockers, Santiago is a self-taught guitarist. Pros and cons? “The pro is definitely having the discovery of this instrument every time you pick it up. In creating things, you’re looking for a feeling rather than a scale. That discovery is good, just going by feel and emotion,” Santiago says.

“Even though, at times, I would [use a scale] and think, ‘God, that feels so good!’ There’s this one song on the [latest] album called “Chicken,” and I like the solo a lot. And I’m looking at it and go, ‘Fuck! I’m on the pentatonic scale, goddammit!’ Because I try not to do that.  But it just sounds so good.”  (N.B. The pentatonic scales — both major and minor — are, by far, the most frequently used in rock music.)

After working for decades as a professional musician, does Santiago still enjoy playing the guitar and making loud noises? “I do. I was actually enjoying it very much yesterday. I really just ham it up. I’ll go on YouTube and search ‘backing track for smooth jazz.’ And then I chum around the house, trying to make my wife sick with goofy, goopy, drippy stuff. And I’m surprised I can actually do that shit. I don’t want to do it, but the exercise there was ‘OK, I’m capable of this, but fuck this shit!’”

The Pixies will perform at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, at the White Oak Music Hall, 2915 N. Main. Spoon and Fazerdaze will open. For more information, call 713-237-0370 or visit whiteoakmusichall.com. $78 and up.

  • Exclusive Interview: Elizabeth Nichols Talks All Things ‘I Got A New One,’ and More!

    [ad_1]

When we look at the bright new class of country music, one of the stars shining the brightest is undoubtedly Elizabeth Nichols! From her breakout hit ‘I Got A New One’ to her newest track ‘Daughter,’ we are getting to watch an artist fully come into her own, discover her sound, and get better with each song.

We were lucky enough to chat with Elizabeth Nichols all about her success so far, new music, and receiving the coveted Kelly Clarkson treatment.

    Listen to ‘Daughter’ here!

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for chatting with us! To start us off, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
I’d say probably clever and honest. Those are two elements that I see in all my favorite songs. I try to balance the two. I don’t want to be too clever that I’m not honest, or too straightforward that it kills the clever.

‘Tough Love’ is officially out! This acts as your debut multi-track project! What emotions have been going through your head as these seven tracks now live out in the world?
I am so grateful. If you had told me one year ago that this is where I would be, I would have never believed you. The idea that some group of girls in another state is in the car with their friends, singing one of my songs, is the most surreal part of it all. Music is such a beautiful part of life, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to make it.

The video for ‘I Got A New One’ perfectly encapsulates each lyric of the track! Can you tell us a bit about that creative process and crafting the visuals?
I grew up on Taylor Swift music videos. I love when a video really tells a story in the same way a song does, so it was important to me to really bring that visual side to life. We got to work with amazing creative directors, and it was so fulfilling to see the story turn from words on a page to a scene I got to be a part of.

What has it been like for you to see the way people have latched onto ‘I Got A New One’? Did you have any inkling that this song would be one that people took to?
I Got A New One’ was the first single I’d ever released, so I had no idea what to expect at all. I am so grateful that people like it and it’s connected the way that it has—that song truly changed my life.

We know that ‘Ain’t Country’ was your first jump into writing a country track. What changes about the songwriting process when you’re writing with a genre in mind?
I was about 10 years old the last time I had written any kind of song, so ‘Ain’t Country’ was the first song I’ve written as an adult, and I think that country sound just kind of naturally came out of me because that’s what I grew up listening to. I also love storytelling and lyricism, and country music is a genre that really celebrates those things and makes space for that part of the craft.

Ahead of the release of Tough Love, was there a song you were most looking forward to seeing fans’ reactions to?
I was most excited for fans to hear ‘Tough Love’ because it was the one song that I hadn’t teased at all before its release, so nobody had heard a single note of it. It was also the newest song out of the seven—I wrote it only a few weeks before the EP came out. There is something about how honest it is that I hoped fans would connect with.

We have to ask, ‘I Got A New One’ has officially received the Kelly Clarkson treatment! What was that like for you?
I was and am extremely grateful. Kelly Clarkson is literally an American icon. She is so unbelievably talented, so the fact that she liked a song I wrote enough to cover it is a huge compliment—my family and I were so excited when it happened.

Once again, thank you so much for chatting with us! Before we let you go, what can fans look forward to as we round out the last few months of 2025?
Some more music! I have a new single coming out in August. I’m also playing some shows throughout the end of this year, which I’m really excited about. I love meeting people out on the road.

Check out more of our exclusive interviews here!

We would love to hear from you! What is your favorite song off of Tough Love by Elizabeth Nichols? Let us know by commenting below or by tweeting @TheHoneyPOP! We are also on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok!

  • This L.A. company builds venues for the world’s biggest pop stars, sports teams and sumo wrestlers

    [ad_1]

Sports and music fans, flocking to a once-questionable corner of downtown, were the springboard for an L.A.-born multibillion-dollar empire of venues and events for screaming enthusiasts around the globe.

AEG, the company behind Crypto.com Arena and the L.A. Live district, has turned its know-how about hosting and promoting big shows into a formula it has rolled out on five continents. It is literally setting the stages for the world’s biggest pop stars, sports teams and even — most recently — sumo wrestlers.

It is one of the city’s lesser-known global success stories. With more than 20,000 employees and billions of dollars of projects running at any one time, AEG is one of the planet’s biggest venue and event companies. L.A.’s high concentration of sports teams and musical talent forced it to develop a system that uses its spaces for up to five different events in a day.

“We learned how to be nimble in moving from one to the other to really maximize,” AEG Chief Executive Dan Beckerman told The Los Angeles Times.

AEG is prospering by executing a fairly simple business plan, said Andrew Zimbalist, professor emeritus of economics at Smith College. Its industry is fairly straightforward — and more use of each seat gives the company more capital to build more venues.

“You have to pick your niche, have capital, have tenacity,” he said. “And stick with it.”

Sumo wrestlers bashed bellies this month in AEG’s newest venue on the grounds of a legendary castle. The recently opened IG Arena stands in the outer citadel of Nagoya Castle in Nagoya, Japan, which was built in the early 1600s, when samurai battles raged in the region.

While the summer sumo tournament required a traditional ring of sand, clay and rice straw bales, the arena will be soon be transformed to host such diverse events as a basketball clinic hosted by the L.A. Lakers’ Rui Hachimura, a professional boxing match and a concert by English musician Sting.

The new IG Arena in Nagoya, Japan stands in the outer citadel of Nagoya Castle.

    (AEG)

In Nagoya and increasingly across East and Southeast Asia, AEG is doing what it does better than most — build arenas that can host pro sports and shows by big-name artists, with the venues often built within an ecosystem of bars, restaurants and hotels also built by the company and its partners.

The company was founded in 1995 when Denver billionaire investor Philip Anschutz bought the Los Angeles Kings and in 1999 opened the downtown arena then known as the Staples Center, which was built by Anschutz and Kings co-owner Ed Roski.

It was considered a risky project at the time, when the gritty blocks near the Los Angeles Convention Center were deemed undesirable by most real estate developers. AEG added the $3 billion L.A. Live complex in 2007, and other developers also moved into the South Park district, building hotels, restaurants and thousands of residential units.

The popular venues have now hosted 22 Grammy Awards shows, a Democratic National Convention, two Stanley Cup championships, six NBA championships and All-Star hockey and basketball weekends.

That high-profile success gave it an edge when competing to build or buy around the world. AEG has expanded to own and operate more than 100 venues serving 100 million guests annually. Among its holdings are the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team and German pro ice hockey team Eisbären Berlin. As the second biggest event promoter in the world, it puts on large festivals including the annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and American Express Presents BST Hyde Park music festival in London.

It has faced slowdowns and other tough periods as well.

Its London arena was the site of Michael Jackson’s planned comeback announced in 2009. During a period when he was rehearsing for the physically demanding shows, Jackson died.

His mother and three children sued AEG Live in 2010. The lawsuit alleged that AEG was negligent in its hiring of the physician who administered the fatal dose of propofol that led to Jackson’s death. A Los Angeles jury unanimously decided that the concert promoter wasn’t liable in the singer’s death.

“People heard of AEG because of Michael Jackson and the subsequent lawsuit from the family,” said Randy Phillips, former manager of music promotions at AEG. “They would never have even known what it is.”

The company was laid low during the pandemic, when live events were canceled starting in March 2020. Venues stayed dark until well into 2021, when AEG started putting on sports events with no audiences and later with limited seating. Times changed in 2022 when revenues reached new records as fans stormed back, Beckerman said.

“We were all very pleasantly surprised,” he said. “I think people learned during the pandemic that there really is no substitute for live events.”

AEG also lost a longtime arena tenant when the Los Angeles Clippers moved to a new arena in Inglewood after the team’s lease at Crypto.com Arena expired in 2024. Owner Steve Ballmer said he wanted the Clippers to have their own home that they didn’t share with other teams.

AEG’s touring business lifted off with a 2001 concert with Britney Spears at Staples Center.

“The Britney Spears tour is what broke the company wide open,” said Phillips, who became head of music promotions for AEG after landing Spears. “That’s when we became players.”

Big acts followed including Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and Pink.

AEG expanded its U.S. concert touring empire by building large multipurpose arenas in Las Vegas and Kansas City. It also is establishing a network of smaller venues such as the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles and the Showbox in Seattle. It recently opened the Pinnacle at Nashville Yards, a concert hall that is part of a mixed-use district including housing and offices that AEG and a local partner are developing in downtown Nashville.

Its highest-profile property outside of Los Angeles is in London, where the company resurrected a large dome-shaped building built to house an exhibition celebrating the turn of the millennium in 2000. After AEG’s redevelopment of the site, the O2 Arena became one of the world’s busiest venues for entertainment and sports with 10 million visitors a year.

In Berlin, the company built the Uber Arena, one of the highest-grossing arenas in the world and part of an entertainment district with restaurants and theaters.

The Nagoya project is part of the company’s pan-Asian strategy to grow its real estate empire and create more venues for artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

The United States and Europe, where AEG has long been active, are largely built-out with modern arenas for sports and entertainment, but many Asian countries are ready to upgrade their old facilities.

“Japan is at the top of the list” for AEG, said Ted Fikre, head of development at the company.

The country’s venues are typically decades old and pale in comparison to modern multi-use arenas typically found in the U.S. and Europe.

The IG Arena in Nagoya, with a capacity of 17,000, is expected to annually host 150 events for 1.4 million attendees at concerts, basketball games and other live entertainment.

AEG has an even larger development in the works in Osaka. Plans call for an 18,000-seat arena that will anchor an entertainment district with hotels, offices, shops and restaurants along with housing. Valued at more than $1 billion, Fikre compared the Osaka project to its largest mixed-use districts — L.A. Live in Los Angeles and the O2 in London. The project is set to break ground in 2027.

In partnership with the NBA, the company built Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai in 2010. It is also involved in plans for South Korea, Singapore and Thailand.

“The ambition for us is to establish a strong presence throughout the Asia region, and we’ve got a good head start,” Fikre said.

AEG opened a 4,500-capacity venue in Bangkok last year with a concert by Ed Sheeran. The company is also working with one of Thailand’s largest mall operators to build an 18,000-seat arena in a sprawling regional mall just east of Bangkok, set to open in 2028.

AEG’s network of venues throughout Asia makes it easier to book big-name artists.

“It’s a bit tricky to tour in Asia because of the expense of traveling around the region,” Fikre said. “It’s not like you’re in the U.S., where you just take a bunch of trucks” from city to city.

Swift completed the international leg of her most recent tour last year that included six nights in Singapore and four nights in Tokyo to sold-out audiences booked by AEG Presents as her international promoter. Sheeran played in Bhutan, India and other Asian countries he hadn’t previously visited in venues booked by AEG.

The international trend now works in both directions for AEG, with K-pop acts such as BTS, Blackpink and other global stars packing AEG venues in the West.

Soundcheck Recap: Shawn Mendes, Halsey, And More!

    [ad_1]

Blotched with pink and white swirls, slapped with a plane sticker, or—if you’re one of those minimalist types—just a classic sky blue, what most would call ‘travel luggage,’ we true fans know as ‘concert time!’ It’s our one foolproof excuse to drop everything, pack up, and spend a few glorious days watching our faves flounce on stage. That’s why we become the frazzled Gollum upon collecting even more digital tickets, snarling “my precious” whenever we join the headache-inducing queue. Luckily for you, we’re about to give you even more chances to experience live music with a series called Soundcheck Recap! We’ll review the latest touring news each week, recount the best moments, and show you how to make your ticket list scroll for days.

    Busted Vs. McFly

It’s the ultimate toss-up of the boy bands, or if you’re more of a lover than a fighter, you’re probably cheesing at seeing all of them on stage together. Just imagine the shenanigans! In a moment we captured, Busted and McFly announced that they would travel around Europe together late next year. The tour will begin in Birmingham and then wrap up in Belfast, and though the general sale kicked off on the 18th, the ticketing gods have still favored latecomers by having plenty still available.

    Shawn Mendes

Where thou art, Shawny boy? It turns out that despite the album release—that doesn’t take a liking to our nickname for him but just his first name itself—moving from October 18th to November 15th, it’s still rolling out with a bang. One that features an extreme screen, popcorn brewing until our fingers taste buttery. Shawn Mendes: For Friends And Family Only (A Live Concert Film) will appear at selected worldwide cinemas just one day before the album comes out, so November 14 for those who aren’t human calculators. The exact locations and ways to purchase tickets will shuffle out at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET on October 24.

    Shakira

‘Whenever, Wherever’ may just have to be the answer for American fans when it comes to Shakira’s shaking hips as she’s upgraded those dates to full-on stadiums! We should’ve known that was coming, as she’s been a titan lately, stealing Taylor Swift’s lucky number 13 and making it her own by selling out that amount of stadiums for her international leg in under two hours. Woah, wiping sweats off our brows and still not being able to think about anything as prestigious as we can do in that time frame. Next year is shaping up to be her year with the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour!

    Carrie Underwood

Las Vegas is the likely place to see someone slash their cheating exes tiers, so it’s a good fortune that Carrie Underwood has been there singing such sassy tunes for her REFLECTION residency. However, soon enough, they will have to find another singer to give them that pep talk as its final dates have been announced. The residency will wrap up on April 12th. Tickets for these final dates also went on sale on Friday, but as always, there are still a few to choose from, so it’s better to be late but not wholly late.

Well, now we’re just kicking our feet, wishing we were a Wells Fargo Autograph Credit holder. You’re one? That’s super lucky because Halsey’s doing an intimate event at San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom on November 21st, no doubt in celebration of their upcoming album, The Great Impersonator. Ypsilanti Gears Up For A Unique New Music Venue

    [ad_1]

New Concert Venue Coming To Ypsilanti

Ypsilanti is known mainly for being home to Eastern Michigan University’s Infamous Ypsilanti Water Tower, which reminds you of something phallic. The City boasts two downtowns, museums, and the home of Elvis Fest,

New Concept In Concert Venues Is Coming

A music venue where paying customers can consume cannabis in Ypsilanti Township would be the first of its kind in the state.

New Venue Called Pipeline Justin Sullivan/Getty Images

The venue will be called “Pipeline,” and the wizard behind the idea is Mike Ludtke, who also owns Inside 20 After 4 smoke shop in Ypsilanti.

What Can We Find At “Pipeline” Concert Venue?

The outdoor amphitheater can hold 650 people. A new concept is a concert venue that will also be a consumption venue.

The idea from Mike Ludtke has been a painstaking 3-year process in the making. As a fellow musician, Mike had always had the idea of putting a concert venue and consumption together for years.

Where Will Pipeline Concert Venue Be Located?

A nice plot of land was acquired: a 4-acre zoned industrial parcel off I-94 next to the water treatment plant in Ypsilanti Township. One area will be the outdoor venue, which will hold up to 650 patrons, and another indoor venue for another 200 plus.

The planning commission signed off. So, in reality, they could break ground at any time, but they hope to start sometime this month.

Venue To Play Host To Lots Of Area Music Styles

Conveniently located near Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, it will make for a great venue for everyone. Also, it is not too close to the neighbors, so maybe the music can be turned up a bit.

Years of hard work went into the planning stages of this new venture, including three years’ worth of sound studies, erosion studies, and other construction hurdles that had to be figured out.

“DJs, electronic music, the local Detroit rap scene, and more are coming hopefully by next Summer.

3 Biggest Threats to a Lions Super Bowl

The Detroit Lions are a supremely talented NFL team in 2024. They were just named the favorite by Sports Illustrated to win the Super Bowl this year. As Lions fans we are in a unique situation for the first time in our franchise’s history. We now are looking at what could possibly prevent our Detroit Lions from making it to their first ever Super Bowl game. But what are the biggest threats to Detroit making the Super Bowl?

With the start of the NFL regular season right around the corner, there is a ton of hype surrounding our beloved Detroit Lions. The team is poised for great things. We are coming off a historic season where the team finished 12-5. Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s consistent play was a massive part of the team’s overall success.

Jared Goff finished the 2023 season with over 4500 Passing Yards, 30 Touchdowns to only 12 Interceptions, and a passer rating of 97.3, with the highest completion percentage of his NFL career.  Not to mention his solid play in the playoffs, where it mattered most. Goff also had two solid games and a star-studded performance against the Los Angeles Rams. Anytime you finish a game with an 80% completion rate, you’ve played phenomenally at the Quarterback position. Jared Goff is our guy!

    Detroit Has The Cast

While Jared Goff has been excellent in Detroit, he’s not the only star in the motor city. Lions Wide Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has solidified himself as a top 5 receiver in the National Football League. Finishing in the top 4 in receptions, yards, and touchdowns in 2023, St. Brown is poised to jump from star to superstar this season. Detroit is lucky to have such unbelievable talent and a superb work ethic like Amon-Ra. Not since Megatron has the franchise had a receiver this good.

With other deadly offensive weapons like Sam Laporta, Jahmyr Gibbs, and the rock-solid gritty David Mongomery, this team has everything going for them. Our offense will be a tough matchup for any defense this season. Of course, we cannot forget about the offensive line. With some slight adjustments after the loss of Jonah Jackson, the O line has been revamped and retooled. They’re poised to be a top 5 group yet again, which will be pivotal to match the offensive potency we saw all of last season.

DETROIT, MICHIGAN – AUGUST 24: Head coach Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions looks on in the first half while playing the Pittsburgh Steelers in a preseason game at Ford Field on August 24, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Lastly, the defense has seen significant upgrades at all levels. Multiple players have been added to the secondary, which has been bolstered with reinforcements from two draft picks, a trade, and free-agent signings. The defensive line had two great additions: Marcus Davenport and D.J. Reader. The team has seen some major development from guys like Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, and even Derrick Barnes.

    Lions Super Bowl

With James Houston healthy again and star edge Rusher Aidan Hutchinson doing his thing, this defense should be a much more fearsome unit this season. More pressure on the quarterback without having to blitz makes the job of the Lion’s secondary much easier. This will be key for Detroit as all these new additions must acclimate to playing alongside each other. With all of these fantastic things you’ve heard about our Detroit Lions, all signs point towards Detroit being a top 5 team again.

SANTA CLARA, CA – JANUARY 28: Amon-Ra St. Brown, #14 of the Detroit Lions, warms up before the NFC Championship NFL football game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium on January 28, 2024, in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images)

Finishing one game short of the Super Bowl this year means we aim bigger. Seemingly, everyone in the state of Michigan has been wanting a Lions Super Bowl for an eternity. What will stop the Detroit Lions? If they’re genuinely this good, nothing should stand in their way. Even still, only three things will prevent a Lions Super Bowl. Find out what those three things are below.

Born in Mt Clemens, Screamin’ Scott has been a part of the Detroit airwaves for 30-plus years. With 40 years of experience in radio. When he’s not out on the streets for WCSX, you can find him devoting time to local charities with his, “Screamin Angels”; and for 16 years with Rock 4 Tots charity. And last 10 years with his local band, “Chit!.” Screamin Scott likes to write about nostalgic Detroit area memories, classic rock, and local metro Detroit topics.

  • Exclusive Interview: Amy Shark Is Here To Indulge Your Sunday Sadness

Exclusive Interview: Amy Shark Is Here To Indulge Your Sunday Sadness

    [ad_1]

The rumors are true, we haven’t stopped listening to Amy Shark’s new album Sunday Sadness since our first listen-through. From songs like ‘Can I Shower At Yours,’ to ‘I’m Sorry,’ we are simply hooked. We were lucky enough to chat with Amy Shark about the in’s and out’s of this record, as well as her time coaching The Voice, her past work, and more! Let’s jump in!

    Listen to Sunday Sadness here!

Hi Amy! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us! To start us off, if someone was diving into your music for the first time, how would you describe your sound?
I think I would describe it as honest, gritty, indie pop.

‘My Only Friend’ has just come out! What can you tell us about working with Tom DeLonge and how that partnership came about?
The whole blink collaboration was never a part of the plan. They just happen to be my favourite band but I never in a million years did I think that I would be able to do a song with even one of them let alone all of them. Tom was the hardest to lockdown just because he’s so busy with other commitments, movies, aliens, etc but after I sent him the song he made it very easy. He loved the verse I wrote and he tracked his vocals in San Diego and sent them over to me. I worked on it with my producer and the rest is history. It’s one of the coolest songs I have in my entire catalog.

Upon listening to ‘My Only Friend’ we thought back to a track you released last month ‘Two Friends,’ to us, it seemed like ‘My Only Friend’ was ‘Two Friends’ softer counterpart, is there an intentional string between the two?
I feel like I have unintentionally written an album about two friends haha. Every song can kinda hold hands with the next. It’s kinda cool.

As we are writing these questions Sunday Sadness comes out in twenty days, how are you feeling? What are the emotions leading up to your first album release since 2021?
I’m quietly confident, but I’m still a little nervous. I really want people to love it as much as I do. But then again, it is my third album so by this time I really know what my fans love. They’re going to love this album and hopefully, it’s good enough to grab more Amy Shark fans along the way.

When talking about Sunday Sadness you said that this record was specifically written on Sundays, what do you think it is about Sundays that allows you to create so freely? And when did you realize that a creative pattern was forming?
There was one specific Sunday where I was finishing a song, it was the last song on the album ‘Our Time Together.’ It’s a pretty emotional song full of memories. I think that’s when I realized that Sundays have always been the emotional day that I can’t escape. Even when I try and work on a Sunday by finishing songs the songs end up emotional.

We were lucky enough to be able to listen to Sunday Sadness a bit early to prep for this interview, and it’s incredible. What really struck us is the range of emotions that the listener is taken through with these tracks, it really feels like getting an inside look at your diary. With that range in mind, are there two lyrics on the record that you think perfectly represent two opposite ends of the emotional spectrum?
Yeah, totally! I’m so glad you picked that up. I love the very opening line to the record in ‘Slide Down The Wall’,“ doesn’t matter what I do. I always get emotional with you”. But then you hear the line “tell everyone you’re dead to me” in the song ‘Gone’ and I love how this album feels like a series of mini-movies! So many ups and downs but a lot of love throughout.

For us, eleven tracks is such a sweet spot for an album, but we know that the number of songs that could have been on the record was probably a much higher number, was there a song that you wrote during the process of making Sunday Sadness, but that didn’t make the album that you hope still sees the light of day in some capacity?
Yes, this always happens to me. It’s very sad. But it’s like sport. Only the strongest get picked for the team, unfortunately. But it doesn’t mean I don’t care about those on the bench.

We know that crafting an album takes a village, and there are so many thank you’s that could be said to the people involved, but something that is often hard for people to do is to pat themselves on the back. What is something that you accomplished during the process of crafting Sunday Sadness that you are proud of yourself for?
I explored every single avenue for every single song on this record. I wasn’t lazy. I worked really hard to make sure every song could stand strong on its own. Even if I had to heavily compromise or lose a guitar riff that I was attached to. I did everything I could to make this album as strong as I believe it is. I’m proud of that.

We have to take a minute to ask about Australian Idol, was there a piece of advice that you were able to give a constant on that show that you wish someone would have given you when you were starting out?
Music isn’t a sport, no one can tap you on the shoulder and tell you to retire because you’re not strong enough or fast enough. You can keep making art all day every day for the rest of your life! There’s no age to making music. So just because it’s a ‘no’ today. Just get up and get after it again tomorrow.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what is the rest of 2024 shaping up to look like for you once the record is out?
I plan on promoting this album to every part of the world!

Travis Kelce Reportedly ‘Found The Ring’ To Propose To Taylor Swift After Worldwide Search – And We Have Details! – Perez Hilton

    [ad_1]

OK, yes, we’ve heard Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were secretly engaged several times before. But never with this much detail…

It’s unclear whether he’s actually popped the question yet or not — more on that in a moment. But a new report has deets that seem to show even if it hasn’t happened quite yet, it’s any day now.

A source close to Trav’s entourage spilled to The US Sun on Wednesday that the Kansas City Chiefs star had been spending some of his time touring the world — mostly following around Tay on The Eras Tour — looking for the perfect engagement ring! And he’s found it! The source said:

“It probably took more than 40 shop visits and 100 Zoom calls and meetings with jewelry experts.”

He apparently has been at this for months, since the end of 2023! He reportedly saw rings in New York, Los Angeles, England, France, and Italy — inneresting since some believe he proposed to Tay during their romantic Lake Como getaway!

Related: Did Taylor React To Kanye West Name-Dropping Her & Travis In New Song??

Whoa! Sounds like he’s working on this with the same intensity with which he trains for the NFL season! Well, it makes sense… Proposing to Taylor would kind of be the Super Bowl of dating, right? But while it was a mighty effort, it wasn’t exactly hard work — because, as the insider explains, the athlete was “so excited about” the search that it was fun!

It’s clearly important to Trav to get the ring just right. The source says he “wants the best for his lady” to “show how much he loves” her. So he got advice from close friends of his AND of hers on exactly what to pick. And all the extra care was “worth” it! Because he got it just right! The friend says:

“He finally found the ring he is sure she will love.”

Apparently Trav ultimately found the ring at Place Vendôme in Paris. The insider says he picked out the band as well as “the finest diamonds and pieces to build it.” So it sounds like it’ll be a custom piece — we’d expect no less for a unicorn like Tay. The ring, says the insider is worth a whopping $250,000!

Nice! It sounds like instead of one big diamond, it’ll be a more intricate design. Man, we can’t wait to see it!

The insider also noted how the ring was far from the only thing Trav bought as he took the time to learn Tay’s taste. He also spent $59k on clothes for her from German designer Jil Sander! Awww! The insider says:

“He knows her tastes so well now. She will have plenty to choose from when she watches him play in the NFL this fall.”

He’s apparently has been showering her with gifts because he can’t be there with her as he’s back in training — but never stops thinking about her:

“Travis misses Taylor a lot, and he knows that she is getting onto the last few weeks of the Eras tour in Europe.”

    Awww!

Do YOU think Trav got the right ring??

PHOTOS: Greta Van Fleet Leaves Us In Awe After Their Connecticut Show!

    [ad_1]

We recently got to witness Greta Van Fleet make yet another great stop at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. From pyrotechnics to quick remarks from lead singer, Josh Kiszka, we got to jam out with stylish and kind folks. No strangers to travel, this stop was one of many on their current leg, however, they still managed to make it feel the night was an exclusive experience. Here is what went down and some key takeaways to love.

    We’re Blaming Brett, DUH!

Image Source: Jazmin Tuscani for The Honey POP

The opener for this leg of tour was The Beaches, a favorite girly-pop rock band that has been climbing the ranks recently. From their top hit, ‘Blame Brent,’ they have gained national attention with the girls, gays, and theys (and also Jimmy Kimmel). Their career, so far, has been spent on Billboard Canada’s top Breakthrough Artist of the Year, sixteen (16) weeks on Canada’s alternative radio, and multiple tour dates with Greta Van Fleet.

We were excited to see them jam out on stage and also jam together. Creating that close-knit feel, they took the time to make sure their bandmates were having fun. With guitarist Leandra Earl’s flirty nature, the band took turns in the limelight as she interacted with them. For being a Friday night, they sure did know how to keep us hooked and ready for more.

    Into The Ether

Our minds were set on Gold and Glam after the Beaches. Right off the bat, they started with ‘The Falling Sky’ from their latest album, Starcatcher. Not only did this song live up to its airy and profound nature, but Greta Van Fleet has also added pyrotechnics for some songs. Fans were jumping up and down letting the music take control. Even after the curtain dropped the cheering stayed and took over.

    Fans Fans! Friends!

Image Source: Jazmin Tuscani for The Honey POP

From the moment they stepped out on stage, they held closely to their fans in the front row and in the nosebleeds. If there is anything you should know about Greta Van Fleet is that their message is closely intertwined with their fans/their fleet. Fans from near and far gather for multiple shows, some showing up on birthdays, others on recent breakups. Their fan base has grown with them and from the looks of it will keep up as the band continues to give back tenfold. We are also excited to read crowd signs and these took a sweetness to them asking to write tattoos, to sing ‘Happy Birthday’, and some even for a few hugs.

    Farewell for Now

We are still glowing about getting to taste a little of what Greta Van Fleet has to offer-but their tour isn’t over. With some more acoustic sets still in the works, Greta Van Fleet is still hot on the press for a few more nights. You can watch closely as they tour via their Instagram or, you know, just stay here for a little as we hope to meet them again on the big stage very soon. But until then, we bid you farewell and leave this parting gift of some photos. We love Greta Van Fleet over here at The Honey POP and know they will be up to some pretty cool stuff in their career.

  • The Fabulous Thunderbirds Have Been “Struck Down by the Blues”

The Fabulous Thunderbirds Have Been “Struck Down by the Blues”

    [ad_1]

Any musician who has labored in the trenches for 50 plus years could be excused for being burned out, jaded or just plain tired. Kim Wilson is none of these.

On the contrary, Wilson is completely psyched about the release of the album Struck Down, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of his band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The record captures the classic T-Birds sound, but in no way does it sound dated. Houston audiences will have a chance to hear the new material live when the band plays for two nights at Main Street Crossing on Wednesday and Thursday, August 7 and 8.

Vocalist / harmonicist Wilson founded the T-Birds – along with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan – in Austin in 1974. At the time, Vaughan described the band thusly: “We’re an encyclopedia of music from the Gulf Coast, you know, Lightnin’ Slim, Lazy Lester, Texas shuffles, rockin’ Cajun. We are all 27, handsome motherfuckers that dress cool, and our music drives girls wild.”

Flash forward a few decades, and Wilson is the last T-Bird standing, having led the band through numerous personnel changes since Vaughan’s departure from the group in 1990. There have been many hills and valleys, but Wilson is bullish on the new album and the band’s future.

Contemporary blues acts often strike a precarious balance between “authenticity” and “relevance,” and Wilson seems comfortable with maintaining this equilibrium. “This is not a museum piece,” Wilson says via Zoom from his home in California. “This is a modern recording, but the sound of it is incredible. Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty, U2 and dozens of other heavy hitters) did the mixing.

“I haven’t recorded digitally in about eight years, and I found out what they’ve done with digital recording, and it’s kind of blown my mind, how good they can make it sound. They’re about ready to make me a believer. I had a couple of Grammy-nominated CD’s, and they were recorded straight to analog mono. So this is a departure from that. But, that being said, it’s an incredible sounding CD.  Since the Tuff Enuff days [ca. 1986], it’s really the best thing we’ve done, by far,” Wilson says. “Between the material, the sonics, the performance, it’s the best record we’ve done. Including Tuff Enuff.  It’s a true T-Birds record.”

Wilson and Yakus had never worked together prior to Struck Down, but they quickly discovered a simpatico approach to making records. “The first thing Shelly said is that you have to mix with emotion. And I said, ‘Oh. This is my guy.’ I’ve never had anyone tell me that. You have to have someone who’s a little bit old school for a band like this.”

So, the album’s title song, “Struck Down by the Blues.”  What exactly does that mean? “It means you just get hit by it. It’s like a truck. And you don’t care what happens after that, you’re gonna do it,” Wilson enthuses. “You’re gonna do it no matter what. I used to say that I was either going to be a musician or a wino. But I had no choice. I was gonna do it no matter what. And it worked out great.”
From there, the conversation takes a philosophical turn, with Wilson (who would know better?) reflecting on the notion of what it takes to be a real bluesman, as opposed to a poser or a pale imitation. “You have to be you and do it to death. That’s what I learned from all those old guys that I played with. I was friends with everybody. Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Buddy Guy. And when I was I kid, I was playing with some Texas guys – Albert Collins, Pee Wee Crayton and Lowell Fulson. I was 18, 19, 20 years old when I was playing with these guys.

“And I learned from them immediately, you’re gonna do it to death, and that’s it. You’ve got to have a monstrously high standard. You’ve got to believe in yourself, because if you don’t believe in yourself, ain’t nobody gonna believe in you.

“Here’s the thing about blues,” Wilson says, as the master class continues. “All these guys who originated it – and the women – they’ve all got their take on things, they’ve all got their own personality, they’ve all got their own style, they’ve all got their own quirks. It’s an amazing thing to gather all that stuff in. Now it’s more like everybody’s singing church music and calling it blues. It’s very generic. When they mixed rock with blues – not rock and roll, rock – that’s when things got really muddled.”
Happily, old-school T-Birds fans don’t need to worry about those sorts of things. Wilson makes it clear that he and the collection of musicians that he has assembled are staying true to the spirit and the essence of the blues. “What I love about these guys is that they have their own take on things,” Wilson says. “No matter what I tell them, it’s going to translate and come out of their soul in a whole different way, their own way. That’s very important.

“In this homogenized, generic world that we live in, it’s really good to have your own identity. And this band is expounding on the past of this band [the T-Birds], which was expounding on the past of music. If you expound on the past, you can hear the past, you can hear the present, you can hear the future. I think there’s a true future with this band. And people are going to realize that when they hear this record.”

The Fabulous Thunderbirds will play at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, August 7 and 8, at Main Street Crossing, 111 W. Main in Tomball. For more information, call 281-290-0431 or visit MainStreetCrossing.com.

  • Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

    [ad_1]

If you’re anything like us, then the name Andrew McMahon is a staple when you think of the music that has soundtracked your life. From Something Corporate to Jack’s Mannequin to Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Andrew has quite the discography in his back pocket. We were lucky enough to get to chat with Andrew all about Something Corporate reuniting, releasing ‘Death Grip,’ and now ‘Happy,’ as well as going on tour!

    Stream ‘Happy’ now!

Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today! To start us off, how would you sum up who you are as an artist to anyone who is going to dive into your music for the first time?
First and foremost, I’m a lyric-focused songwriter. I’m trying to tell stories with my songs and to tackle the conflicts and questions that arise in my daily life. I get a lot of joy from experimenting with sounds in a studio setting. While there is a pretty clear, pop-minded approach to my writing, you’ll hopefully identify a diverse palate of sounds and arrangements throughout my recordings.

You’ve been a part of so many projects over the course of your career (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). How has your creative process changed as you move between projects?
I think my process has become a lot more collaborative. The more time you spend making things, the easier it is to articulate what you want and the more fun it is to translate everyone’s ideas into the work.  I’m far less obsessed with the outcome these days and so much more interested in digging deep with collaborators and going on an adventure in the studio and on the stage.

Something Corporate is officially back! What made you want to reach out to your old bandmates and get the ball rolling working together again?
I had the band out for a surprise set during my birthday show a couple of years back, and the vibe was so good we decided to get back together properly for the When We Were Young fest. There was such a beautiful energy at those shows and, for the five of us, there was palpable joy being back in practice and hanging out in dressing rooms and laughing together. The shows were such a pure connection between us as band members and the audiences we were playing for that we decided to book more and keep the party rolling.

Working with Something Corporate this time around comes about a bit differently, as you’re working as Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. What has coming from the mindset of the art you’ve been making brought to working with the band again?
Working with other projects has made me a better collaborator and it’s given me a real appreciation of the unique chemistry of Something Corporate. There is something magical about the bond we share, having grown up learning to play music together as kids. I am able to fully appreciate and celebrate the rarity of that connection now and it’s made this reunion a really peaceful and joyful moment in my life and I think the other guys’ as well.

‘Death Grip’ is the first single back! Were there other songs that were completed that you chose between to get to this track? What was it about this track that made you guys want it to be your comeback?
‘Death Grip‘ happened really organically. I wrote it in Nashville a month or two before we left for tour. I loved the song and wanted it out into the world. The decision wasn’t made through the lens of this is your comeback track. It was made out of love for the song and the band being excited to be back in the studio together. The song itself is about letting go, receiving life as it comes, and giving back what the universe gives to you. It gave us this song, and we gave it back.

Upon crafting ‘Death Grip’ could you automatically tell what you wanted the live performance of that song to look like?
Not necessarily. I think the biggest shift for me post-Something Corporate has been letting the music evolve in the studio first and then crafting the show separately. ‘Death Grip‘ was very much created through that process. Hence, the Wilderness/SoCo Collab. The production of the next single that’s coming out was approached a little more like a traditional Something Corporate song, and on that one, we will flip the collaboration order to SoCo/Wilderness to reflect that.

You guys just kicked off the Out Of Office Tour. What can fans expect from these shows? Are we going to be getting unreleased music played?
The show itself has a beautiful production incorporating video that weaves in moments from the early days and I think does a beautiful job of connecting fans to the band’s history while creating beautiful new memories to hang on to once you leave. The nearly two-hour set manages to cover the majority of our catalog with some deep cuts from night to night. We also have two new songs that will be out by the time we get to the second leg of the tour, and we will be throwing one of those in per night going forward. We’re really proud of both of them.

The Out Of Office Tour isn’t a typical tour since you’ve said that you’re all having to work around your current jobs. What’s been the hardest and most rewarding parts of touring now compared to back when you only had to focus on SoCo?
Honestly, I’ve been hoping to reimagine the way I live, work, and tour for some time now. The way we structured these dates has afforded me and the band the opportunity to play for lots of fans and have incredible weekends together while still making it home to take care of our families and the careers we’ve built since moving on from Something Corporate in ‘05. The other guys would be able to speak more to the challenges, I’m sure, as some of them are definitely juggling work fields outside of music.

Let’s talk about your partnership with Big Loud Rock! How did that come about? And how has that unfolded for you thus far?
The truth is I’m pretty cagey when it comes to record deals these days. After Tilt came out, I was pretty hell-bent on stepping back from music for a bit and seeing where the wind blew. The day I wrote ‘Death Grip’ I was so excited by it. I started sending music around, and the Big Loud guys were so genuinely stoked about the song and the potential of releasing more that they made me a really fair deal based on mutual trust, and the rest is history. It’s early still but working with them has been a breath of fresh air. So many labels these days simply obsess over data and TikTok and make all their decisions based on fear. These guys love music and building artful campaigns around their releases. It has really been a joy to work with them.

The Holiday From Real cruise kicks off this fall! Obviously, we and all the other fans are so excited. But what aspects are you most excited about?
Playing shows with all of my favorite musicians and friends on a single weekend is going to be incredible. I know people look at these projects as separate entities, and, in many ways, they are, but for me, it’s my life and my music. Bringing that all together in one place, especially a vacation setting, just feels right to me.

Now that the single is out and the tour is underway, what does the rest of 2024 look like for you? What can fans expect?
We’ll be dropping our next single, ‘Happy,’ on July 26, and I have high hopes for that song. It’s about to get busy with more regular shows and lots of travel, but I’m ready for it. We built this show to celebrate the magic that found me and my bandmates in my parent’s garage back in 1998 and the beautiful years of music that followed. I just want people to feel alive at these shows, to use this music as a time machine and make contact with the moments in their lives when this music was the soundtrack. Most importantly, I want fans to walk away with a new formative memory of all of us doing what we love most. Giving ourselves over completely to music for a couple of hours and singing these songs together. I want it to be visceral.

  • Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

    [ad_1]

It’s no secret at this point, we are huge Greysons Chance fans, and have been for years, so this is a pretty huge moment for us! We got to pick Greyson’s brain about his latest releases, and about what’s next, as well as about his relationship with his fans and about displaying vulnerability in his music. We are still processing getting to have this conversation! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

    Stream ‘Haymaker’ here!

Hi Greyson! Thank so you much for taking the time to talk with us today! To start us off, how would you describe who you are as an artist to someone who is just tuning in for the first time?

Oh that’s rather hard isn’t it? Ever so often I have to tell my story in full, starting from the YouTube video to where I am now; and the whole thing really does read out like a movie. It’s a bizarre story. But if someone is truly tuning in for the first time, I would say my career started with me singing at the piano. And now 14-years-later, I’m still singing at the piano.

‘Rearview Mirror’ marked the start of this next musical journey you’re on, what was it about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made you want it to be the first introduction to this new era?

There was something very classic about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made me want to make it the lead. I am always chasing that feeling of nostalgia everyday I go into the studio, to make things that feel bigger than me and to make things that will stand the test of time. From the jump, ‘Rearview Mirror’ felt that way, and I didn’t second-guess it.

‘Haymaker’ is the track following ‘Rearview Mirror’ and you’ve said the track was born out of a place of conflict within your family, what was it like to be able to work that out through music? Was writing the healing process, or had that already come and writing was the result of the healing?

I’ve gone through a lot in my life, but nothing quite stings like the emotions of family conflict, and for three years, I watched my family crumble before my own eyes. It was awful. Writing was certainly the healing process for me, and it’s been that way since I started writing songs. I told my cowriter Sam Harris the day we wrote ‘Haymaker’ that a thousand pounds were lifted off of my shoulders once those words hit the page.

You’ve always been very personal with your music, with your songs chaptering parts of your life. Can you pinpoint something that you were hesitant to put to music, but ended up in a song that you released and got to see it resonate with people?

I was very hesitant to release ‘Haymaker,’ because it is my real life. I haven’t really spoken to my brother in a few years, so ‘Haymaker’ is this an encapsulation of everything I would say to him if I had the chance. So for these lyrics to be the first words he hears from me? Yeah, that shit’s raw, it’s ugly, it’s nuanced, but it’s necessary. Good art comes from vulnerability, I’ve always believed that.

Palladium was the last record, what is something that you learned during that album rollout/creative process that you’ve taken with you into creating the next project?

I learned through Palladium that I am an album artist, and I always will be. I want to world build, I want my music and my visuals to paint a scene for the listener, to bring them to a place that feels disconnected from their own reality. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that the world needs to be complex, it just needs to be purposeful.

You’ve been in the industry for a long time, and because of that, you’ve had fans that have been around for a decade+ going to shows and supporting the music, what has having the support that’s allowed for breaks (like going to college and stepping away from music) while aways sticking around meant?

When I tell you I am the luckiest artist, you have no idea. My fans know my life, they know what I’ve been through, they know that I’ve suffered a lot, both mentally and physically since I was kid … they keep me upright. Think of someone you’ve known for 14-years of your life? That’s the type of relationship I have with my fans. I don’t feel a pressure to make music for them, if anything I feel a pressure to be healthy and happy for them, because I know that is what they want for me more than anything. My relationship with them is the coolest thing I get to experience in my life.

We know that crafting any form of art takes a village and it is often easier to thank the other people involved and harder to pat yourself on the back, but what is something you’ve been really proud of yourself for during the process of crafting ’Rearview Mirror’/’Haymaker?’

I am proud of myself for pushing forward and continuing on no matter the adversity I’ve gone through. Music is a cutthroat industry, and it’s full of rejection. But the older I get, the more I realize the power in just surviving, waking up everyday and focusing in on the silver lining. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, and that feels like a huge accomplishment.

When you look back at your discography is there a song for you that you have recently felt reconnected to? Maybe a track that you hadn’t revisited in a while and realized it still hits as hard as when you made it?

Boots, a song I released as a stand alone single around four years ago. “I’ve been western before all of these punks,” hits way hard in 2024. Don’t get me started on these fake cowboys out here right now.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we finish out 2024? What’s on the horizon?

I’ve been working on this record for the past year and a half, and ‘Rearview Mirror’ and ‘Haymaker’ are just the first two songs; I’m ready to show everyone the full world. So I guess to answer your question … more music, and a lot of shows. That’s what is on my horizon.
