3 Ways to Make Him Take You Seriously | Get The Guy

    [ad_1]

Telling the difference between an avoidant person and someone who just likes to take things slowly is HARD.

In this week’s short-and-sweet new video, I share 3 principles that can help you move on sooner from someone who’s not as invested as you are.

    & Into a Real Relationship . . .
    TAP HERE

    Matthew Hussey:

So I recently had someone ask me, “How do you tell the difference between someone who is avoidant and is never going to want a relationship and someone who is just taking things slow with you?” She described the last couple of situations she had where she met guys. In the beginning they stated that they were interested in finding a relationship, but then two months later after she’d already become emotionally invested, they suddenly had a turnaround and said, actually, “I’m not emotionally ready for a relationship.” Or, “My life isn’t logistically in a place where I can have a relationship.” What she was asking is, “Is there a way to figure out sooner whether someone is just avoidant without wasting my time and getting emotionally invested in the process?” To her and to you, if you relate to this, I have three principles that can serve you in not wasting your time. Before we get into the video and these three principles, don’t forget to like the video, subscribe to this channel, and hit the notification bell, so that the next time I make a video, you find out first.

The first principle is that not everyone who says they’re looking for a relationship is saying the same thing. It’s a bit like people who say they’re looking to move when they want to move house. When some people say that, they mean, “We need to move in the next month.” And when they go to a real estate agent, they are on the hunt for their next house. There are other people who say, “We’re looking to move,” who mean in the next few years. And for that person, real estate agents know they can be a giant waste of time, because that person you keep sending listings, I’m talking like I’m a real estate agent, but I understand for the people in that position, you keep sending listings to someone and you don’t know if they’re really serious or not.

All you know is they never really buy anything you send. There are some people who just want to wander around open houses on the weekend. It’s a nice thing. You go stroll around, you imagine what it would be like to be there. You drink the complimentary champagne, you eat the little cookie on the side, you take a little swim in the pool until they catch you without your trousers on and call the authorities. And then having drunk the champagne and eaten the open house cookie and swam trouserless in the open house pool, on your way out, you pick up the form when the agent says, “Could you please just sign your name on the way out, so that we can contact you?”

And you sign your name and you give them your number and your email address and you know that this agent can reach out to you every day for the rest of his life. You won’t be responding to any of it. So many people when they meet someone they like hear someone say, “Yeah, I’d like a relationship.” And what they hear is, “Oh, I can now relax because that person says that what they’re looking for is the same thing as what I’m looking for.” But we can never assume that them saying they want a relationship means they have the same intentionality about it that we do, or that they’re on the same timeframe as we are.

The second principle, I want you to ask yourself honestly, “Are they being selectively slow?” In other words, when someone is “going slow,” you have to say to yourself, “Are they going slow in every department or just the one that suits them?” They’re quite happy to be very sexual. They’re quite happy to see you in very intense ways. They’re quite happy to gush about you emotionally, be very affectionate, say grandiose things. When you feel like the only area they’re really taking it slow is in the department of saying, “I don’t want to sleep with other people,” Then you know that there’s a disconnect between what they’re saying and what they’re actually doing. Now, you may say, “No, Matt, they are going slow. I don’t see them all that often. We’re not sleeping together right now. We don’t talk all that often.”

If that’s the case, then you have to ask yourself, honestly, “Why am I investing so much of my psychological focus in this person? Why am I not still exploring my other options?” What we’re looking for is intentionality. Intentionality is someone who really is looking for a relationship, who is asking you the kinds of questions that people ask when they want to have a relationship, someone who is actually progressing with you. Two important words are consistency and progress, are they consistent and is there a sense of progress?

Which brings us on to principle number three:

You get to decide if someone wastes your time. A lot of the time we behave like a very passive player, like we’re concerned someone else is going to waste our time. Now, if someone outright lies to us, if they say, “I am in a relationship with you and only you,” and it turns out a couple of months later they’ve been cheating on you or they’re not serious, then fine, someone lied to us and wasted our time in that way. But so many of these situations I hear are about us being complicit in wasting our time. They’re about not being honest with ourselves when someone is not having the conversation about what it is, they’re not saying that they’re exclusive, they’re just seeing us, having sex, emotionally entwined, but there’s no real sense of progression towards commitment.

And when that’s the case, we get to decide, “What is it that I want?” And instead of always pandering to somebody else’s rhythm, we should go in with the confidence of saying to someone, “If we’re sleeping together, I’m not doing that with anyone else. Are you on the same page? You’re not? Okay, no problem. But then I can’t keep going down this road.” We get to say to someone who only sees us once every week or once every two weeks, “I’m keeping my options open because I don’t know where this is going.” We get to decide what we want to do. If we keep our options open without the coming fixated on a person before that person has really earned it, we’re never going to be resentful that someone has wasted our time.

It’s no different to someone saying, “I’m not really sure if I’m ready for a relationship.” And us saying, “That’s all good, I don’t want to keep investing in someone who’s not sure what they want. I’m going to keep exploring my options.” If they come back again and they say, “Hey, I’m serious now,” then that’s something worth entertaining. But you won’t feel like you wasted the three months in between because you went and did your own thing. You went and did what you wanted to do. What you didn’t do, was sit there and hope that maybe something would shift with that person. That’s where wasting our time comes from. It comes from someone not being clear about wanting the same thing as us and us hanging around for them anyway.

Now, look, in this video I said that there were two words that are really important in early dating, consistency and progress. And if you want to know how to create both of those things with someone that you’ve met, who you want it to go further with, I have something for you that can show you practically how to create them. It’s called the Momentum Texts. It is a highly practical program that shows you what you can do and say at different junctures, that instead of taking you down a casual road, take you down a serious road with someone. No matter what stage of early dating you’re in, this has something for you. It’s really easy to use and I promise you, you’ll literally grab it and you’ll find something in there today that you’ll want to use with someone. • 10 Things to Avoid in Dating Someone New

10 Things to Avoid in Dating Someone New

    [ad_1]

Actually, the title should be things you never, ever put up with when dating someone! My clients range in age from 28 to 78 years old—and all in between. If any of these are one of your early encounters, let’s face it—they will only get worse. You may know my saying: “the best behavior is in the first month(s) of dating”.

Daniel, a successful 58-year-old attorney and client of mine, recapped this story for me yesterday. It was his second date with Anna, a pretty, 57-year-old doctor and they’d just had a pleasant tapas/sangria fueled dinner and he was driving her home. She took a phone call from her ex-husband in the car, something to do with one of their children. (That’s ok, right?). Well, the small incident was resolved in 5 minutes and suddenly she blasted into a story with her ex “Remember when we……” and for the next 20 minutes of the car ride home reminisced with her ex in front of Daniel.

Think there was a 3rd date? And she texted him surprised he never asked her out again.

    1. Talking on the phone while on a date
If it’s not an emergency or important, why? You just showed your date you don’t value his time.

    2. Too inquisitive
Nosy. Of course, we are talking first dates here. Sure, you can ask how long someone has been divorced. But the buck stops there. It’s none of your business at this point why they divorced, was it acrimonious, are they paying a hefty alimony, etc. Mark, 45, told me a woman asked him if he ever cheated on his wife—on the first date. He was new to online dating and asked me if that was normal. Heck, no!

    3. Bad relationships with family and they tell you about it
Maria, 37, had a date last week with Mark over a coffee and within 10 minutes he told he was estranged from his children, as he was never present in their lives. As he began launching into his dysfunctional childhood, she drained her latte and told him this wasn’t going to work in a gracious manner. And, he looked confused. He texted her the next day asking what he did wrong—and while tempted to tell him you need a whole lot of therapy, she just said she felt no connection. Smart. There is absolutely no reason to stay for an hour when someone launches their issues on you. (Oh, she blocked him on her phone too). Things like this—you just move on!

    4. Language
Ok, so she’s a Wall Street trader and exposed and used to foul language. And uses it herself. As Michael commented “I walk in, see this pretty, petite woman and think, yes! Then she opened her mouth”.

    5. They don’t make you laugh
Many people comment in online profiles that they enjoy a sense of humor. But that can range from silly, goofy, quirky to a jokester. You either click on this—or don’t! more……

Some happier news—I had two engagements last week which just makes my day—no, it makes my week. One is Paul (my client) and Emma in Palm Beach and they are planning a Labor Day weekend. They are both 65-years-old—and I’m invited to the wedding—yay! Second is Michaela (my client) and Ross, 47 and 42 respectively and it’s first marriages for both.

They are planning a NYC wedding in the late Fall. Not sure of my invite yet!

    6. Gossipy
On a first date? You don’t even know this person. Now, I’m not talking about telling funny stories, I’m talking about a mean-spirited way of describing people. Talking bad about others does not resonate with the majority of people.

    7. Talking negatively about your dating app/dates you’ve gone on
Laura, a very positive and happy go lucky client of mine shared this story with me. Her date’s first question was “Are you finding these dating sites as awful as I am?”. She was surprised and I liked her answer: “Wow, really. I’ve met some fantastic men—just not the right one for me yet”. And guess what? Even after her comment, he wanted to continue on about all the unattractive women he’d met. She immediately tossed him out of her line-up of potential second dates.

    8. Bad Manners
Christopher, 64 had invited Louisa on a first date to a wine bar for one drink. When he arrived, she was on her second glass of wine and busy ordering not one, but 3 appetizers. He gave her the benefit of the doubt, but when the check appeared, she left to make a phone call. Now, Christopher is a gentleman who always pays the check but he was perplexed when she didn’t even bother saying thank you. And, she had scarfed down most of the appetizers and ordered a third drink too.

    9. Drinks too much
Well, I guess #8 covered this one!

    10. And the good old rude to the waitstaff
Definitely shows one’s true colors. Laura met Thomas for a second date at Mastro’s, an upscale steak house in Newport Beach. (Prior to that, they’d had a pleasant coffee meeting). First, he complained about his salad. But the denouement came when he angrily chastised the waiter about the temperature of his steak and asked to speak to a manager.

Keep in mind most of the time I hear fun, heart-warming stories about first dates. Sure, not everyone has chemistry and it’s love at first site. But if you spot the above “red flags” on the first few dates, chances are it will not get better.

My clients who do best and add to my 65% success rate of developing relationships tend to be positive, well-mannered singles. So, keep in mind it only takes one and don’t give up after one bad experience. With 128 million singles alone in the US, I promise he/she may be right around the corner. Chalk it up to experience —and move on to that next date!

Have fun, chin up and just think, you could be next!

  • Elite Singles Vs eHarmony – Which Is Right For Your Dating Needs In 2023?

Elite Singles Vs eHarmony – Which Is Right For Your Dating Needs In 2023?

    [ad_1]

Elite singles vs eHarmony is one of the internet’s most popular debates. Go-to-websites for comparatively serious dating goals, these two dating apps carry their own merits, often making it difficult for users to pick one over the other.

We take a cue from eHarmony and approach this debate as methodically as its science-based method of picking a match. We will take each valuable aspect of a dating site one by one and pit one against the other to find the final winner. So let the eHarmony vs Elite Singles battle begin!

Elite Singles Vs eHarmony – Cost, Features, Safety, And Other Key Differences

Scientists now believe that relationships that form through online dating last longer. Yes, you read that right! Contrary to the popular assumption that online dating is for casual hookups, a 2013 study based on a survey sample of 19,131 respondents revealed quite the opposite. The data from the study suggest that “the internet may be altering the dynamics and outcomes of marriage itself”.

More precisely, results indicated that “more than one-third of marriages in America now begin online.” Not only that, it was found that “marriages that began online were associated with slightly higher marital satisfaction and were slightly less likely to result in a marital breakup (separation or divorce) when compared with those that began through traditional offline venues.” Is it time to remove technology from the list of predictors of divorce?

Now that you know that the online dating scene could be the route to a stable relationship you have forever been craving, it’s time for us to take this analysis seriously and pick each apart based on things like the process, features available, the ease of use, success rate, user reviews, memberships costs and much more! Without any further delay, let us dive right in.

    1. Origin

If you have been wondering which is better eHarmony or Elite Singles, let us begin with a bit of history. The birth story of each of these websites can give a fair bit of insight into their ethos.

Elite Singles dating site is part of a conglomerate, Sparks Network, that has in its portfolio almost a dozen dating brands such as Zoosk, SilverSingles, EliteSingles, Jdate, ChristianMingle, eDarling, JSwipe, AdventistSingles, LDSSingles, Attractive World. It was launched in 2013 and operates in 19 countries. While that is quite impressive, eHarmony boasts of a cute history moment.

eHarmony, launched in 2000, has the experiential advantage of over two decades. It was founded by an American clinical psychologist and Christian theologian Neil Clark Warren with his son-in-law, Greg Forgatch. On seeing his parents’ lukewarm marriage, Warren was invested in the question of relationship chemistry and compatibility since his childhood. The personal interest of a son and the involvement of a psychologist means that eHarmony’s compatibility algorithm was not only the first among all the other dating sites, but its questionnaire has also been proprietary to the company with an enviable success rate.

    2. Dating goals

Next comes the purpose of a dating website and its target demographic. This is one of the most important factors in gauging which dating platform is right for you. While both Elite Singles and eHarmony are aimed at developing serious relationships, there are a few distinct differences. If you know what you are looking for in a relationship, this point will surely help!

Elite Singles is marketed as a platform for “elite dating”. The website, as per its internal data, boasts of an 85% user rate of individuals with college degrees. As “snobby” as it sounds, Elite Singles aims to match career-oriented educated singles who share the same values regarding career, love, and life. This means that on ES you are going to find anything from casual rendezvous to a serious relationship.

eHarmony is the more mainstream and generic of the two. eHarmony users are marriage-minded or serious relationship-seeking people. And that’s reflective of its seminary background. (Throwback to the history lesson!) People from all sorts of educational and professional backgrounds are in the mix.

    3. Inclusivity

By now, it’s abundantly clear that both the apps aren’t particularly aimed at “fun” and casual dating. They are both preoccupied with the sustainable partnership question, career or no career. This should give you a hint that – at least historically speaking – the websites have had a “conservative” attitude and weren’t open to same-sex matches and other gender identities. If you are looking for good LGBTQ dating apps, these are definitely not the one!

Elite Singles allows for same-sex matches but offers only “male” and “female” gender selection options. Anyone over the age of 18 can opt for a membership. One can filter their searches based on age groups.

eHarmony decided to offer same-sex matchmaking services through a separate brand called Compatible Partners after several lawsuits against the company citing discrimination based on sexual orientation. CP can be accessed through the same subscription as eHarmony. eHarmony too has the same features for age and other filter selections such as location, ethnicity, etc.

    4. Features

Features include everything that you get access to if you subscribe to their service, be it the ease of use, how attractive the design is, or the functionality of the services offered for each free and paid subscription. Here’s an Elite Singles vs eHarmony analysis on the features front:

Elite Singles has an intuitive interface and clean design. This means no clutter and unnecessary wondering why a feature that one would never need exists in the first place. It has a hybrid approach to finding matches. There is curated matching based on your responses to a short quiz as well as open browsing and picking one by yourself. This option to “take the reins” of your dating experience is one of the most prominent differences between ES and eHarmony.

Elite Singles sports a mutual match swipe feature, called “Have You Met?”, much like Tinder and other new dating apps, but with much more data about the users to help make an informed decision. There is a messaging platform to chat, and you can also see who visited your profile.

Related Reading: 10 Tricks To Choose The Right Profile Pictures For Your Dating Profiles

eHarmony too sports a clean and minimalist design. There are no overwhelming popups or a heavy color scheme. Visually aesthetic, you can explore potential long-term relationships with calm energy. eHarmony is known for its Compatibility Quiz, an extensive questionnaire, a list of serious relationship questions, that can take you anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes to complete. There is no search option to pick from an open catalog of users.

Another striking feature of eHarmony is an integrated video chat platform. So, no need to share contact details or Zoom id to be able to video meet your future partner. eHarmony also requires that you complete your profile at least 50% to go forward with finding matches. This means no coming across empty and frankly lazy profiles.

To make things easier, here is a quick recap on premium membership features:

    Elite Singles Vs eHarmony: Features

    5. Sign-up and matching process

So, beginning from signing up on the websites to actually finding a date, we will cover the how-tos of the virtual dating world here. Since both eHarmony and Elite Singles cater to serious daters, their sign-up and user-matching process reflects thoughtfulness and thoroughness.

Elite Singles requires you to create a profile and take up a small quiz and enter your preferences, along with details like educational qualifications, job profile, etc. Although you will be prompted to reveal your income, you are allowed to skip the question. Once you do that, you will be offered compatible profiles to select from. You can message whomever you are interested in and take it from there.

Related Reading: Sending Nudes? Our Cyber Safety Experts Say You Shouldn’t

As we mentioned earlier, you can also use the search option and browse through the database after adding your preferences to the search filter. You can filter based on gender, age, location, income bracket, educational degree, etc.

eHarmony has a single structured roadmap to finding a potential partner, its patented Compatibility Quiz. The eHarmony quiz was even a prominent plot feature of the 2013 Ben Stiller hit The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. The questionnaire is backed by incredible research and reflects a good understanding of human psychology. It tries to match you up based on deeper values, ideologies, and lifestyle choices, rather than shallow variables, like your favorite ice cream, that don’t make much difference in matchmaking.

The personality test is extensive with at times seemingly bizarre and funny questions and can last for 30 minutes. But it is crucial to the eHarmony process! Once you are done with it, the dating platform presents you with the best matches curated especially for you with an “eHarmony compatibility score” rating. You can look at the cumulative score as well as dig deeper to say what all you have in common with your match based on individual scores for different personality criteria.

    6. Popularity and reviews

A dating website’s popularity and success rate definitely affect its credibility. So, what is the popular opinion on these dating websites? What do users and experts think? Let’s find out:

Elite Singles, as per its internal data, has 1.4 million plus user traffic and 400,000 fresh monthly subscriptions. While its Apple Store and Google ratings aren’t particularly great, it does show more than 1 million Google Play downloads. Elite Singles reviews from experts are generally positive. User complaints don’t have a recurring theme so it’s difficult to point to a common problem. However, most customers complain about credit card problems, fake profiles, and customer service.

eHarmony prides itself on the success rate of the getting to know each other questionnaire and, therefore, on finding the perfect match for you. It boasts more than 2 million successful love stories, making it arguably the most successful dating app in the world. Both its Apple store and Google ratings are better than ES and it has been downloaded on Google Play more than 4 million times.

eHarmony reviews from experts are also positive. User complaints consistently point to its high cost and longer commitment plans, along with deteriorating match quality over the years.

To make the comparison clearer here is a table:

    Criteria Elite Singles eHarmony
No. of subscribers 1.4 million monthly traffic 4.8 million monthly traffic
New subscribers 400,000 new users every month Data unavailable
    Google Play downloads 1 million + 5 million +
    Google rating 1.9/5.0 3.1/5.0
    Apple Store rating 3.0/5.0 4.0/5.0
Expert reviews Mostly positive Mostly positive
User complaints Some complaints. No singular underlying theme Few complaints; mostly about the price point
    Elite Singles vs eHarmony: Popularity

    7. Safety

Safety is probably one of the most important factors that can make or break the online dating experience. We’ve all heard stories of scammers catfishing unsuspecting users on online dating platforms. They create fake profiles and try to gain the victim’s trust, before asking them to divulge their personal details, credit card details, address, etc. This can lead to identity and financial theft exposing you to several dangers of online dating. So, what arrangements do these websites have to safeguard you from potential scammers?

Elite Singles claims that they manually check profiles to ensure they are not fake or bots before uploading them to the database. The website says it has “an in-house fraud team who monitor and investigate any suspicious activity.”

eHarmony too claims to have a dedicated “Trust and Safety Team” that works seven days a week to create a safe platform. Many reviewers believe that the detailed questionnaire and the mandatory 50% profile requirements deter a lot of fraud activity. Its privacy policy document on the website talks about SSL encryption to protect your data.

There is also the eHarmony SMS verification safety feature sponsored by the RelyID identity verification system. eHarmony allows you to verify your profile by entering your phone number to which eHarmony sends a verification code. Once you enter that, your profile shows that your account has been verified. You can look for only verified profiles to stay out of a scammer’s way. Another safety feature includes an interesting 6-text-message-from-both-parties requirement before either can make a video call.

    8. Pricing

The cost could be a major factor in determining the value of an object for you. There is absolutely no doubt that eHarmony is one of the most expensive dating apps in the world. If budget is a factor, Elite Singles is definitively a more suitable choice. Regardless, let us look at their subscription fee and subscription models to help you make a decision. We will also see if they have any free memberships and what features come with those.

Elite Singles cost is not as steep as its competitor in this debate but isn’t cheap either. It does have a shorter commitment plan.

Membership grade Name of the premium membership Subscription length Monthly price Total Price
    1st tier Premium Classic 3 months $57.95 $173.85
    2nd tier Premium Light 6 months $44.95 $269.70
    3rd tier Premium Comfort 12 months $31.95 $383.40
    Elite Singles subscription pricing

eHarmony price is one of the few cons of this dating site. Not only is it arguably the most expensive matchmaking service, it requires a longer commitment too as the company believes it needs at least 6 months to help you find your suitable match. After all, love takes time to grow.

Membership grade Name of the premium membership Subscription Length Monthly cost Total cost
    1st tier Premium Light 6 Months $65.90 $395.40
    2nd tier Premium Plus 12 Months $45.90 $550.80
    3rd tier Premium Extra 24 Months $35.90 $861.60
    eHarmony subscription pricing

Elite Singles or eHarmony, whichever it is going to be for you, you would be happy to know that both dating websites offer a free membership albeit with limited features. But these features should be enough for you to know if the websites are working for you.

    9. Website or app

Do both websites have an app? Where are they available? Do they have any restrictions? And how do these fare against the mobile website?

Elite Singles dating app is available for download for free on App Store and Google Play. The app too has a clean design and is easy to navigate. It’s easy to set up your profile on the app itself and you don’t really need the desktop version for anything else like sending messages, creating a favorite list, sending winks, browsing profiles, etc.

Elite Singles App is available on iOs and Android.

eHarmony app too is available for download for free and you can proceed with whichever membership you have chosen. It’s advisable to set up your profile on the website though and use the app to catch up on the matches on the go. The app does have some restrictions with a free account such as not being able to view user photos or send messages.

eHarmony App is available on iOs and Android.

What happens if you face problems signing up? Or if you can’t find a feature? Or if the payment doesn’t go through? Or if you wish to report a romance scammer? How do both dating apps resolve your problems if you are worried about a safety issue or if you want to cancel your membership? Let us see.

Elite Singles, unfortunately, doesn’t have instant contact options such as live chat or a phone number. There is no email option either. The only way to get in touch with the customer care team is to fill in the ‘contact us’ form on the website. The response ideally takes a day. But users feel that customer support on Elite Singles is not very reliable.

eHarmony does better than most other dating platforms when it comes to customer support. The customer support team is available 24×7 via email and usually responds within 24 hours. Call service is also available between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm PST. An online form is also available, but no live chat feature.

Final Verdict: eHarmony vs Elite Singles

Comparing eHarmony to elite singles is not easy, as both online dating sites are well-established with decent track records. They cater to slightly different clientele as well. While an eHarmony user could be anyone looking for serious relationships, Elite Singles users are more focused on the social background of the potential match. Neither of these is looking exclusively for something casual, but there is more scope for casual in ES according to Elite Singles reviews.

Elite Singles is better priced with shorter commitment plans, for sure! But eHarmony wins by a stretch on the grounds of the quality of compatible matches it offers. It also compensates for the price through its security features and better reliability from customer support.

But that doesn’t answer your question, right? Which is better: Elite Singles or eHarmony?

In our opinion, the clear winner is….

    eHarmony!

Winning by a slight margin, we love how eHarmony prioritizes safety. Even though eHarmony costs more, we appreciate the reliability and value for money of its premium membership. The ability to only go for verified profiles and stay out of scammers’ way, the 50% profile requirement, and the fact that two matched profiles can video chat only after contact through messages has been made by both sides, are some of the ways eHarmony testifies to this fact. Here is a detailed eHarmony review for you!

    Key Pointers

    • eHarmony vs Elite Singles is a difficult debate to resolve as both are quality online dating sites with a good track record
    • Elite Singles dating platform is aimed at well-educated users who are interested in finding socially compatible matches with a certain educational and professional background
    • eHarmony matches you with other users looking for stable and serious relationships
    • Both dating platforms look for these curated matches through user-based personality tests results but eHarmony boasts of a unique patented compatibility quiz that relies on comprehensively understanding a user’s personality traits, values, and lifestyle
    • Even though Elite Singles has better pricing and equal if not more matches and more features to offer, the reason eHarmony wins is its focus on user safety, better customer support, and ultimately better matches

If money is a concern, or if you would like to meet someone with your professional, financial, and social background, you wouldn’t be shortchanged if you pick Elite Singles instead. Go with the free membership for both and see how you feel.

The fact that UK men are true gentlemen and Polish girls are princesses creates a perfect match. I decided to do my own Polish dating UK review and found some interesting statistics that I am willing to share with you.

    • Over 80% of men who have used the Victoriyaclub site have found love with a Polish girl. That is a very impressive percentage and proves there is no better place to search for dates than through Polish dating England platforms.
    • The Central Statistical Office reports that in 2014, over 4,000 Polish women married foreigners. 603 of the husbands were British.
    • Through a Polish dating agency London you have a chance to meet a woman who perfectly suits your requirements. A professional agency will find a woman who looks like your dream wife, suits you by age, interests and relationship goals.
    • One of the main reasons that drive Polish women to relocate to the UK is the wide selection of job offers and better standards of life.

Visit a Polish dating site Ireland or England to view profiles of real Slavic women. Online dating is the number one method as it has no borders. Specify the type of a woman you dream of meeting and get to meet compatible brides nearby or all over the island.

How Does Polish Dating in the UK Work?

When you are looking for Polish girls, you do not have to worry, as Victoriyaclub.com dating site can significantly increase your chances of success. Tips On Successful Online Polish Dating UK

Looking for love on paid and free Polish dating sites UK is certainly fun. However, if you do not want to waste time, you need to know how to approach Polish females online. Here is my list of working tips:

    • Show your manners when interacting with Eastern European brides. Girls from Poland want to meet a true UK gentleman. Be respectful and considerate. Once you show you are a kind-hearted man who can treat his date like a princess, you will not have to wait long until a Polish bride falls in love with you.
    • It is worth upgrading your account. Using a dating site for free sounds like a great idea but you should understand that a paid membership will get you better results. First, paid sites are more reliable, and second, with a paid membership, you can send messages to all girls you fancy and request their contact information.
    • Prove your serious intentions. Poles are more traditional and old-fashioned compared to girls in the UK. If you want to build a serious relationship with a Polish woman, prove your serious intentions. Pay a bill at a restaurant, introduce her to your parents and friends, and discuss plans for the future.

Understanding cultural differences and making efforts will undoubtedly help you conquer the heart of a Polish woman.

    💕Conclusion

Polish ladies are world-renowned for their beauty and loyalty. Using a reliable dating site like Victoriyaclub.com will make meeting a sexy Polish single really simple. Enjoy meeting some of the hottest Slavic brides from the comfort of your home and arrange dates within a few clicks.

  • How To Find The One? 13 Tried and Tested Tips

How To Find The One? 13 Tried and Tested Tips

    [ad_1]

What does it feel like when you find the one? I’ll give you an example. In The Notebook, Noah tells Allie, “So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s gonna be really hard. And we’re gonna have to work at this every day. But I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me, every day.” During another conversation, Allie asks Noah, “Do you think our love can create miracles?” Noah replies, “Yes, I do. That’s what brings you back to me each time.”

This makes their bond truly special while they transcend all boundaries – difficult parents, war, class conflicts, and old-age dementia. Noah and Allie show such an unwavering commitment and their love never fades over the years – and this is why it is one of the most heartwarming stories on finding the one. It’s a sweet reminder that true love can conquer all obstacles and finding “the one” can create an eternal love story.

What Does Finding The One Mean?

When you find the one, it means you have met that special someone who feels like a perfect match. It’s about discovering a person with whom you have a deep emotional connection, compatibility, and mutual understanding. This individual becomes your friend, lover, and companion – someone you can see yourself spending your life with.

In popular culture, we often see rom-coms and fairy tales portray the idea of “the one” as a flawless, idealized soulmate who checks all the boxes. But in real life, romantic relationships are more complex and nuanced. It’s not really about finding perfection, but rather finding someone who shares your values, complements your strengths and weaknesses, and accepts you with all your imperfections.

How To Find The One Without Waiting Forever? 13 Tried and Tested Tips

It doesn’t matter whether you are tired of swiping on dating apps, have been through a recent heartbreak, or just found your way out of an unhappy marriage. If you want to find everlasting love and your true soulmate, we’re here to guide you on your quest. After all, it can be an incredible journey – filled with love, connection, personal growth, and of course, discovering that special someone who makes your heart skip a beat!

    1. Get to know yourself on a deeper level

You know what’s a crucial step in finding the right partner and creating a fulfilling love life? Understanding yourself on a deeper level. Yes, taking the time to explore your desires, needs, and values will provide clarity and guide you toward healthy relationships. Here are some simple and effective ways of self-exploration that will take you a step closer to finding your ideal partner:

    • Grab a pen and paper, or use a journaling app, to declutter your mind and express your thoughts. Write about your dreams, aspirations, and ideal love life
    • Make a vision board for your dating life. Gather images, quotes, and words that resonate with your desired relationship. Include the activities you enjoy and the destinations you want to explore with your future partner. This visual representation will keep your needs in focus and inspire you to manifest them
    • Set aside some quiet moments for meditation, allowing yourself to be present and reflect on your romantic life. Focus on your inner thoughts and feelings, and observe what arises. This practice can help you gain clarity about where you are in your romantic journey and what you genuinely seek in a partner

    2. Define your ideal partner (with clarity)

Do you remember the good old days when your best friend would ask you, “How would you describe your dream girlfriend?” or “What kind of a guy would you date?” Turns out, defining your ideal partner with clarity is truly important while choosing your life partner. So, take some time to reflect and create a list of qualities and characteristics you desire in a partner. Try these tips:

    • Make a list of the qualities you value in a partner. Think about the traits that are important to you – these could be anything from kindness to honesty, ambition, a sense of humor, or shared interests
    • When you think about the green flags, it is also important to make a list of red flags or habits that you do not want in your ideal partner
    • Think about the kind of love you are looking for. Ask yourself: what are the things to look for in a relationship? For instance, do you seek adventure and excitement, or are you more interested in slow living?
    • Consider your past experiences, what worked and what didn’t. This reflection will help you gain clarity on who would be your perfect person

Sandra (28) from NYC shares, “To find your true partner, you need to understand how a relationship works rather than play games. I think that the vast majority of people focus on physical appearance and materialistic things, and they do not know the good signs of lasting love. If you want to find your perfect match, it becomes easier when you have clarity on what you want in a partner.”

    3. Explore new social circles

Step out of your comfort zone, try new activities, or join communities that match your interests. This can help you to meet like-minded individuals who could potentially be “the one”. Here are a few suggestions:

    • Take up a new hobby, attend a workshop or seminar, or volunteer for a cause you believe in. This will introduce you to a diverse range of people, increasing your chances of finding a compatible partner
    • Explore online platforms, forums, or social media groups dedicated to topics or activities you’re passionate about
    • Keep an eye out for local events, festivals, or gatherings that align with your hobbies or values. These events often attract people with common interests, providing a relaxed and enjoyable environment to meet that perfect person

    4. Listen to your gut feeling and trust it

How do you know someone is the one? Wondering if he’s Mr. Right, or she is the one? Trust your instincts and embrace the journey because when you find the one, it becomes clear that they are the person you’ve been searching for all along. You will know you found the one. Sometimes, that inner voice knows what’s best for you. Your gut feelings and instincts can be powerful guides when evaluating potential partners. So, listen closely and trust your intuition as you navigate the journey of finding the one.

    5. Be open to sudden encounters

Jesse and Celine first meet on a train in Vienna in Before Sunrise. Harry and Sally meet as college graduates on a road trip. Sam and Annie from Sleepless in Seattle come together through a radio talk show. Noah and Allie run into each other at a carnival. Lucy Whitmore and Henry Roth in 50 First Dates meet by chance at a café in Hawaii. Catch the drift?

These iconic characters remind us of the power of chance encounters and the profound impact they can have on our lives – leading to extraordinary love stories that capture our hearts. The truth is, love has a way of surprising us when we least expect it. So, it’s important to stay open to such chance encounters.

Embrace the unexpected moments that could lead to something special, whether it’s striking up a conversation with someone at a coffee shop (can lead to some great coffee dates), connecting with someone at a social event, or even meeting someone while traveling. You never know when and where you might meet the one for you.

    6. Talk to your friends and family

Remember how your mother knew your high school boyfriend would cheat on you and break your heart? Can you recall your best friend telling you how that one guy is oh-so-perfect for you? Honestly, who can help better than the people who love you, know you, and deeply care about you?

So go ahead and ask them for tips on the type of person you should date. If you do not feel comfortable opening up to your friends or family about this, look for couples that have healthy long-term relationships. Reach out to them and have an honest conversation. You might end up with some priceless suggestions.

    7. Go where people share your interests

What do you seek in a relationship – meeting someone who is exactly like you? Wondering what to look for in a partner when you find the right one, or how to find a soulmate without even trying? Here’s the secret solution: skip singles events if they’re not your thing, but don’t miss out on a single opportunity to meet like-minded individuals.

Dave (27) from Colorado, who met her partner at a pop-up event, says, “Pay attention to the early signs you’ve met the one. Meeting the love of your life, or meeting the right person often comes with a deep sense of connection and compatibility. So, make sure you’ve got some common interests and hobbies.”

    8. Visit a relationship coach or therapist

Worried that you’ll never find true love? If you’re going through a rough patch, seek guidance from a relationship expert or therapist. They can offer valuable insights and help you understand yourself better, uncovering patterns and exploring your emotions. They can guide you toward finding your compatible life partner.

Derek (35) from Florida tells us, “Maybe you’re tired of not meeting the right person. Or you found the one, but you’re confused about whether they are looking for serious relationships. In such a situation, how do you know someone is the one? Speaking from experience, I can say that seeking guidance from a relationship coach or counselor can be immensely beneficial in situations like these. They can help you navigate the journey of meeting someone special. Or as in my case, meeting the love of your life!”

    9. Prioritize building friendships

“They’ve truly found the one.” Do you ever feel this way when you look at a couple near you? It can be your uncle and aunt, your best friend and her boyfriend, or an old married couple in your neighborhood. Of course, their love stories will be different, but you will notice one common factor – they’re friends with each other.

This is why building friendships is truly important if you want to find the one in a relationship or find the one you can’t live without. Quick tip: When someone feels like a very close friend, makes you laugh even on gloomy days, and helps you share all your secrets without any worry, take a hint! These are early signs you’ve met the one.

    10. Try online dating apps

“When I was in my 20s, I wasn’t looking for a relationship. I wasn’t looking for love or 100 things to like about a guy. But now, maybe I just want to find my person. I see everyone in a relationship and I’m like, “Why can’t I find a partner?” I hear people in love say things like, “I’ve looked all my life for you” and “I’ll be the one if you want me to”, and long for it.

“I don’t know how to be the one for someone or the secret to finding the right person. But whatever it is, I will not stop looking – maybe I’ll join a dating app,” laughs Roxanne, an architect from Los Angeles.

“Will I find love on a dating app?” If you have ever wondered this, know that many people have found meaningful relationships through online dating. Here’s what can help: a cute profile picture (brownie points if it’s with your dog), an authentic profile (no fake universities or travel stories, please), and taking the time to know your potential matches. Now, if you’re ready, here are a few popular online dating apps, especially for serious relationships:

    • eHarmony
    • Match.com
    • OkCupid
    • Coffee Meets Bagel

    • Hinge
    • The League

    11. Make yourself happy and you will attract love

Ever noticed those people who radiate happiness? They have this magnetic charm that makes them so easy to love and keep the spark alive. Well, here’s a little secret: finding real love starts with finding happiness within yourself. It’s like a superpower that attracts love into your life.

When you prioritize your happiness and take care of yourself, you become irresistible in the best possible way. So, go ahead and do the things that bring you joy. Pursue your passions and surround yourself with positivity. When you make yourself happy, you create a positive energy that draws love toward you.

    12. Have faith that your true love will find you

It’s completely natural to feel sad when you’ve been putting in the effort to find true love without seeing the results you desire. But try not to dwell on thoughts like, “Will I ever find true love?” Instead, stay optimistic that the right person will come into your life at the perfect time.

Trust in the power of positivity and believe that the universe has a plan for you. Every step you take – even if it doesn’t lead you directly to your true love – is bringing you closer to them. Therefore, have unwavering faith in your journey and keep searching with a hopeful heart. Remember, when you invest a lot of faith in your search for true love, you increase the chances of finding your soulmate connection.

    13. Give blind dates a try

However, fate had other plans. They ran into each other again later that evening. As they engaged in a deeper conversation, a spark ignited, and they realized there was something special between them.

He recalls after many years, “I was just trying to find a quiet place to read my book, and then I saw you. And I think, when you’re single, and you’re trying to be, you know, “Oh, I don’t need anyone”, there’s always this one person, this one person who just… knocks you out.”

If you’ve recently come out of a long relationship or lost faith in true love or mature relationships, a blind date might be just what you need. It can be as soothing as aloe vera on sunburnt skin – offering a fresh perspective and the possibility of meeting your soulmate. Trust me, blind dates have the potential to surprise you in ways you never imagined!

    Key Pointers

    • Take the time to understand your desires, needs, and values, and then reflect on the qualities you seek in a partner. Journal these thoughts or create a vision board that represents your ideal love life
    • If you truly want to find the perfect partner in your life, engage in activities that genuinely interest you as they provide opportunities to meet like-minded individuals. You may also step out of your comfort zone and explore new activities to meet more people
    • When you are on a quest to find true love, you can give online dating apps and blind dates a chance
    • Seek compatibility, build strong friendships, trust your intuition along the way and maintain faith that your true love will come around

Remember, the journey of finding the one is filled with self-discovery, personal growth, and exciting possibilities. Of course, it won’t happen in a day, but with these tips in mind, you won’t have to wait forever or lose hope. Enjoy the ride, stay positive, and believe that the best is yet to come. 11 Early Signs He’s A Player And Isn’t Serious About You

    [ad_1]

You are dating an amazing guy and you find yourself falling deeper in love with him every day, and a little fast. He is so good to you that you are having a hard time believing he is even real. And sure enough, something’s amiss. Suddenly, a part of you is wondering whether he is being authentic to you and you’re not sure how to find out. You’re curious to understand how to know if a guy is playing you.

He can never seem to have a serious conversation about making future plans with you, and evades all manner of commitment. He will spend time with you and call you nonstop but he never lets you meet his friends. What if these are all signs he’s a player? If this sounds familiar to you, then know that you are not alone.

A very fortunate few find their ‘happily ever after’ the first time round. Most people, unfortunately, at one point in their life get their hearts broken by some kind of a philanderer. And even if he’s not a total player, he’s probably just confused, doesn’t know how to deal with his feelings and is hurting you in the process. If you have started dating someone and are asking yourself “Is he a player or genuinely interested in me?”, then the following points will help you figure things out.

11 Warning Signs He’s A Player — Get Away From Him Fast

Let’s be honest for a minute here. There is no denying a player is good at his game. He would hardly garner that reputation if he wasn’t. He is confident, charming, mysterious, and fun. And his words hold a promise of tomorrow, but unfortunately, these are mere illusions. He is having his fun with you, but certainly seeing other women on the side.

When it comes to men who are players, their intention is always to lure you into a state where you are willing to cater to their needs without a second thought. Once he has you there, the dreamboat can quickly change into a nightmare and you end up feeling manipulated, as soon as you find out about all the other girls in his life.

You suddenly realize that he is not your Mr. Perfect at all. This is why when you see the signs he is playing you, it is best to get away from your manipulative boyfriend as fast as possible. Here are some early signs you should look out for, if you do not want to get hurt.

    1. He love bombs you

Not every person is inherently romantic. While some people want a knight in shining armor, coming to their rescue, others want something a little more practical, like a guy who pays his bills on time and does his household chores. No matter our idea of romance, we all have one thing in common. We all want to be swept off our feet. And a philanderer knows exactly how to do that.

He will start love bombing you at the onset of the relationship, without even getting to know you properly. He will shower you with lots of love and attention and smooth talk you into his trap. He will leave no stone unturned to woo you and make you feel special. He might even convince you that this is true love. But remember that most girls fall for this behaviour, which he has perfect it over time.

So much so that you will begin to think he is too good to be real – which turns out to be a correct assumption. This is one of the most obvious signs he is playing you and if you are noticing this pattern repeats itself over the subsequent dates, then it is best to let him go.

    2. Signs of a married player – the sex is great but that’s about it

Sex is an essential aspect of a relationship if you’re not asexual. It helps build intimacy between a couple and makes their bond a stronger one. The sex between you two may be great but a relationship can only survive so long on just sex. One of the early signs a guy is a player, is if the only time he is interested in you is when there is a chance of making physical contact with you, but doesn’t make much more effort to get to know you otherwise. Perhaps he is married to someone else, and is just using you to fulfill his sexual desires.

In this case, you will get very little apart from sex in this relationship, because that is the only reason he is with you. One of the red flags a guy is playing you is that he is emotionally aloof, and won’t be there when you need him. However, if you start a sex chat with him, then you will have all his attention, but he will be back to his aloof self as soon as the sex chat is done. This is one of the ways to confirm the signs he’s playing games through text.

    3. Most players do not make any future plans

No, we are not demanding that he starts envisioning your wedding the moment you meet him, or starts asking you what kind of ring you might like. But as the dates keep progressing, it is natural that you get more involved in a person’s life. Initially, it’s just the dates and hanging out, then planning vacations together to spend more time, going for some family events, and so on. In the normal course of a relationship, you’d become a part of your partner’s plans for the future. It is a realistic expectation in a relationship.

When you are dating someone, at one point or the other, you will wonder what life would be like with that person in the long run. That’s when you enter a serious relationship. However, if your date keeps being vague, or avoids and shuts down any conversation about a future, then it is one of the signs he is playing you and is not serious about you. Maybe he is also going out with other women.

    4. He sweet-talks you and then gaslights you

Does dating him feel like a game of hot and cold? Is he very loving one moment and then he randomly becomes distant the next? Have you heard him complain on and on about how busy he has been lately, while he keeps having team dinners seven times a month? Do questions like “Is he a player or genuinely interested in me?” keep popping up in your head? If your answer is yes to all of these, then these are the obvious signs he’s not serious about you.

    • Smooth talk: “I miss you, but…”, “I am dying to meet you, but…” , “I care for you, you matter to me, but…” are things a player will say to you to lead you on and make you feel like they are pursuing you. But for all you know, he is probably saying this to multiple other girls
    • Gaining sympathy: One of the signs of a player is a guy who acts like his life is falling apart. If he has not made the effort to text or call you all day and then you confront him, he will make it sound like he was having the worst day at work so that you end up forgetting your feelings and support him after you feel guilty
    • Awkward timings: He always texts late asking if you’re up and makes conversation to reel you in. But throughout the day when you need him or feel like talking to him, he vanishes. At night, he will do everything to make you feel that he is obsessed with you but during the day, he could not care less as to what you are doing or where you are

How to know if a guy is playing you? They will use sweet words to melt your heart and distract you from how you are actually feeling. They will even use the sympathy card so that you end up feeling guilty. But when it comes down to reality, their actions will rarely match their words. You will keep wondering what you mean to them. And if you confront them regarding this behavior, they will gaslight you.

    5. He’s active online but doesn’t mention you anywhere

This is one of the oldest red flags a guy is playing you, but is one that many women often end up overlooking the most. So go through this one carefully.

If you are skeptical about your date’s intentions and are looking for signs he is a player, then his social media activity will provide you with the perfect opportunity to decipher that. It is possible that your date is a private man and doesn’t post much about his life online, and that is okay. But if he is really active online and uploads the smallest happenings in his life and there is no mention of you in it, you might have a reason to worry. Maybe he is even uploading photos with his other female friends, but never any pictures of you. Is he just playing hard or playing it cool? Not really. He is disregarding you.

    • Pictures of everyone but you: He has pictures of himself with his friend group, colleagues, and even his pet rock. But there is no sign of you
    • He deliberately leaves you out: Or worse, you are cropped out of the pictures with him. That is just plain rude and in that case, you are certainly dating a player. And when you ask him about it, he says something like “I want to keep our relationship private because my friends are judgmental and I don’t want them to say anything bad about you” or “My colleagues are on that account, and I don’t like to mix business with pleasure”. These are the things a player will say to you to cover their tracks
    • Signs of a married player: When he completely refuses to share you on his online profiles, it might even be because he is leading some kind of a double life. For all you know, he is married to somebody else and that’s why, he does not want to be in a proper committed relationship with you

    6. Your boundaries mean nothing to him

A 28-year-old reader from Texas, Jenna, shared her story with us about her love life. She and Maverick met online and had good chemistry. They went out for a date and things were going well until Maverick leaned in for a kiss. Jenna stopped him politely and said she was not ready for it. However, that didn’t stop Maverick, and he tried to kiss her again a couple of minutes later. Jenna recognized this as a dating red flag and the date ended soon after.

When Jenna later related the incident to her sister, she confirmed Jenna’s suspicion, saying, “That is a bad sign that the guy you met online is a player. He doesn’t care about your consent or about how you think and feel. This can even cause trust issues in you. One must avoid players such as these.” Maverick’s utter disregard for Jenna’s boundaries was proof of the unmistakable signs that he’s a player.

What we want you to take away from this is that, a guy who is truly interested in you, will never disregard your feelings or make you feel uncomfortable. An honest guy wants you to feel good and safe around himself. But if you feel like the man you’re seeing, is just interested in the booty calls or making physical contact, then the right thing to do might be to leave this kind of a situation.

    7. You haven’t met his friends or family

Friends and family are people who are the closest to you. They are the ones we talk to first when something new happens in our life, whether good or bad. So when you find someone special in your life, it is obvious your friends will know about it. In most cases, people often want to show off their new relationship and want their partner to meet and get close to their friends and family members.

How to know if a guy is playing you? If he doesn’t share or introduce you to the most important people in his life if you have been dating for six months or more, there is a good chance he is just playing games and does not want to be in a serious relationship with you.

If you and your date have been going out for a few months, and you still haven’t met or chatted with any of his friends or family, then it is one of the signs you are in a fake relationship. Still not sure? Just ask him whether he is willing to have a group hangout with his friends and you. If the thought is not agreeable to him, then you will know the signs he’s playing games through text by the way he responds.

    8. He seems to be a huge fan of Snapchat

If your date keeps pushing you to use specific media platforms like Snapchat, then these actions are early signs a guy is a player on Snapchat. One of the things a player will say to you is “Why do we always text over iMessage? Let’s use Snapchat instead,” or something else along those lines.

This app has a feature where the messages disappear after a certain period of time. If your guy asks you to stick to this app, and the conversations somehow always turn lewd there (he might even want you to send him nudes), then it is one of the signs the guy you met online is a player. He’ll talk to you on Snapchat deliberately, because he is only interested in having a certain kind of conversation with you. That’s just a part of the player lifestyle he has got going.

things a player will say to you
A player can be very mysterious

    9. Signs of a player – you are the last thing on his mind

Another reader, Mike, a 25-year-old painter, shared his story with us. He has been dating Brad for about 4 months now. And in these 4 months, he has seen a major shift in Brad’s behavior. In the beginning, Brad was everything a person desire. He was loving, attentive, passionate, and caring towards Mike. But he now seemed to be drifting away, and into another world.

They used to meet almost every day and now he barely sees him on the weekends. Their daily calls have reduced to irregular texts. And there was just one phrase Brad keeps repeating: “I am busy.” Mike is now afraid Brad is seeing other women or men, because he rarely ever reaches out to him.

It is normal for romance to mellow down over a period of time in your dating life. As unfortunate as it may be, it happens more often to people than you think. It takes effort to make a relationship last and it can’t just be a one-sided relationship. At the last minute players might text you saying, “I’m at this bar, come join me!” or “I have tickets to a game, can you meet me in 30?” They never actually consciously make any plans with you and you are simply like a buffer for them, when they have nobody else to do things with.

    10. He brags about his list of conquests

One of the tell-tale signs the guy you met online is a player is that he keeps talking about the people he has dated in the past. It would mostly be in the form of a beautiful experience he had with more than enough women. And worse, if he talks about how obsessed they were with him and tries to show off about it. But if the number of dates/partners/flings keeps increasing whenever he speaks about his past, that is your clue. You might even think he is doing this to make you feel jealous.

Don’t get us wrong, there is no harm in seeing multiple women or having a high number of body count as long as one is earnest and sincere towards all their partners. But if that is all they are ever able to talk about, there is a good chance they are nothing more than a player. Instead of asking about you and your day, if they keep rambling about an old bird texting him for a booty call — that certainly cannot be comfortable for you.

In all honesty, it is better to accept our partner’s past, and it also should be something that you might want to know about them. However, it is not something we should focus too much on, or discuss nonstop. There also might be a possibility he might have changed his ways and might not be seeing so many girls anymore. And we all know reformed playboys make the best boyfriends, at least according to pop culture. But it is always best to make an informed decision. And if he is in the habit of talking about his conquests, then that’s one of the signs he’s playing you and you may not be his only woman.

    11. No deep conversations happen

One of the textbook characteristics of a guy who is a player is that he will go out of his way to avoid being emotionally invested in you. Most women miss this sign, even though this is one of the early signs a guy is a player, something you can even catch on a first date if you pay attention.

He will rarely, if ever, talk about his feelings on a particular matter and simply avoid any serious conversations. He might talk about everything under the sun, from what kind of coffee he drinks to the time he went sailing with his friends. And at first, this will feel like a good sign. But it is actually a clue that he will break your heart.

He makes sure you have a great time with him, discussing all kinds of random, fun things. And he will certainly be romantic, convincing you that he won’t lose interest in you. But if you pay attention to his words, they will be superficial. His words will never real who he really is on the inside or anything significant about his personal life.

One of the telltale signs he’s playing around with you is that not only will he not talk about his feelings much, he will also try to actively distract you when you talk about yours. You don’t need a relationship coach to tell you this, you just need to pay attention to how your conversation flows. Indulging in deep conversations needs a certain level of vulnerability. And vulnerability tends to lead toward emotional intimacy and attachment. And emotions are a playboy’s kryptonite.

    Key Pointers

    • The relationship you have with him will be mostly superficial and based on just sexual chemistry
    • He will hide your relationship from his online accounts and not let you meet his friends and family
    • He will try his best not to form any kind of emotional attachment to you
    • You might want to know more about his personal life, but he will talk only about superficial topics with you

Dating a playboy rarely ever bodes well for anyone. Maybe he is not actively playing mind games with you, but he still might be using you. And in all honesty, you should try your best to stay away from them. However, it is indeed very tricky to spot a player. And if they are pretty and good with their words, it gets even harder to face the reality.

More often than not, a person is too blindsided by their charm because as badly as we don’t want to admit it, these men are in fact charming. And by the time you realize that there are indeed a decent amount of signs he’s not real with you, it’s already too late and you find yourself invested in him.

So here’s hoping you are able to spot these signs early on and manage to save yourself a heartbreak. Don’t let anyone play games with your heart, you deserve better.

    FAQs

    1. How do you tell if a player genuinely likes you?

The simplest way you can tell a player genuinely likes you is when he opens up to you. He will talk about his feelings, thoughts, and emotions, and confide in you. His conversations will not be superficial and being vulnerable in your presence will not scare him either. He will be emotionally invested in you and it will show in his words and actions

    2. How do you know if a guy is playing you or really likes you over text?

If he is sweet to you, hangs out with you even after his needs have been taken care of, takes care of your needs as well, checks up on you over text, texts back fast, prioritizes you, and stays in touch often, then these are the major signs he genuinely likes you.

How To Break Up With Your Girlfriend – The Dos And Don’ts

    [ad_1]

How to break up with your girlfriend? There is no easy answer to this question. No matter how long you’ve been with one another or what your reasons for parting ways are, pulling the plug on a relationship is bound to sting. And not just the one who is going to get dumped.

Even as the one initiating the breakup, you may feel distraught, sad, and riddled with a sense of inexplicable heaviness. After all, you are going to break up with a girlfriend who loves you or at least hasn’t expressed any desire to end the relationship.

While you deal with these emotions and muster the courage to spill the beans, you must also be sensitive toward your girlfriend’s state of mind upon learning of your decision to part ways. Being mindful of certain breaking-up rules can make the situation somewhat easier for both you and your soon-to-be ex.

What You Should Do When Breaking Up With Your Girlfriend

Leaving your girl is never an easy task, but breaking up with your girlfriend when she loves you is excruciating. You may feel guilty about breaking up with her when she has always showered you with affection. Feeling guilty can mar your conscience for many weeks afterward. But it’s also unfair to pretend to be happy with someone when you’re not.

There’s no solid breakup excuse that makes it any easier to dump your girl. You just gotta square your shoulders and talk about it. If you’re wondering what to do when you decide to break up with your girlfriend, we got you. Read on.

    1. How to nicely break up with someone? Tell her in person

Yes, telling someone you’re no longer interested in being with them or that you’ve fallen out of love sucks. Big time. But such is life. You have to learn to deal with unpleasant realities. This is one such situation. No doubt breaking the news to her is going to lead to some awkward, potentially volatile moments. You have to prepare yourself to handle it to the best of your ability.

    • If you want to break up with your girlfriend, make sure you have an in-person conversation with her, even if you’re in a long-distance relationship. Have the courtesy of meeting her for the last time, if possible
    • After all, if you’re mature enough to be in a relationship, you’re mature enough to end it the right way. That entails giving her the closure of a face-to-face conversation
    • This becomes even more crucial when you break up with a long-term girlfriend, as it’s more difficult to cope with a sudden breakup in a long-term relationship. It may not be the easiest way to end your relationship with a girlfriend, we get it. But it’s decent and proper

    2. Pick a place with some privacy

Where should I break up with my girlfriend? Is that question weighing on your mind? First of all, pat yourself on the back. You’re gearing up to break up the right way. Now, to answer your question –

    • Steer clear of public places like cafes and restaurants. It’s ideal to have the breakup talk somewhere you both have the chance to converse in peace without others eavesdropping
    • At the same time, avoid places that hold a special meaning for you as a couple. For instance, taking your girlfriend to the place where you first kissed her to tell her that you want out isn’t the best thing you can do when you dump your girl
    • Choose a neutral place where you can have the privacy that such an emotionally charged moment demands. Perhaps you can meet at a friend’s place or go for a walk in a secluded park so that you can both express yourselves freely, as you break up with a girl you love or who loves you

    3. Give her an explanation

Whether you’ve decided to break up with a girl you love or someone you’ve just been seeing casually, there are bound to be reasons behind your decision. Even if it may feel like you’re going to break up with your girlfriend for no reason, there are always underlying triggers for such a decision.

    • Perhaps you’re not compatible. Or there are certain relationship issues that you haven’t been able to resolve. Or there is another person in your life. Maybe your individual dreams are taking you apart
    • Whatever your reasons, share them with her. There may be scope for misunderstanding. So, try to be as clear as possible. Use a patient, calm tone. There may be tears or a complete emotional meltdown, so be prepared
    • When you break up with a girlfriend who loves you, these explanations will go a long way in helping her understand where you’re coming from and can perhaps cushion the hurt. If you want to break up with your girlfriend but want it to be as easy as possible, this is non-negotiable

Rita, a yoga instructor from Wisconsin, tells us how to nicely break up with someone, “Well, definitely don’t leave them hanging, especially when they’ve been super good to you. When Morgan left me without even a note, it took me ages to believe that it had nothing to do with me. I couldn’t think of someone else to date because I was so convinced of my unsuitability as a partner. I just kept thinking about how to get this man back after the breakup.” A lack of an explanation can severely impact your girlfriend’s mental health and self-esteem. So, make sure you do right by her.

    4. Give her a chance to talk

Once you’ve said your piece and announced your decision, give her a chance to talk. If she feels blindsided, there is a good chance that her reaction may be one of shock, mixed with anger and confusion. If you both had significant problems and the breakup was an inevitability, she may be more pragmatic in her reaction.

    • Allow her the space to let her feelings out uninterrupted. You may or may not agree with what she has to say, but this is not the place to contend with it. Let it go. This may be the last time you have a heart-to-heart with her
    • Breakups can be hard to get over, so if she tries to bargain or change your mind, don’t let her emotionally charged appeals influence your decision. This is not the time to second-guess. “Should I break up with my girlfriend or not?”

    5. Rehearse your lines

To make sure that you get the intended message across, you must rehearse what you’re going to say. And if you are going to break up with a long-term girlfriend, understand that the conversation will be stressful. That’s because announcing the decision to break up can be an emotionally vulnerable and overwhelming moment. You may not be able to wing it in that state of mind. As a result, you could end up saying things that can make the situation worse or more complicated.

    • Before you have the talk with your current girlfriend, take some time to practice your lines. Talking in front of a mirror is a great way to assess whether you’re saying the right things in the right way and if your words are having the desired effect
    • You could also try it with someone else, like a friend, to get feedback on how best to approach this conversation
    • Try not to flaunt, gloat, or sound like you’re enjoying yourself. Remember, you’re saying these words to break up with her. The point is to soften the blow for her, not make her more miserable

    6. Discuss the no-contact rule

After you go through with the motions of leaving your girl, you must sever all contact with her. This allows you both the time and space to heal and move on. When having the breakup talk with your girlfriend, do discuss the no-contact rule.

    • Tell her that you’d like to go off the radar for a while and define what that means. No phone calls, no texts, unfriending or unfollowing each other on social media platforms – the whole nine yards, even if you are close friends
    • Make it a point to tell her that you’d appreciate it if she were on board with the idea, but you’re going to do it anyway. This should be non-negotiable when you break up with a long-term girlfriend, as you both need the space to recondition yourselves and get used to a life without each other

    7. End things on a good note

You may be exiting each other’s life forever but that doesn’t mean you cannot remember the great time you spent together fondly. For that to happen, you must end things on a good note and break up with your girlfriend kindly.

    • Tell her that she’s a great person with many admirable qualities. And that anyone would be lucky to have her as their life partner
    • If you genuinely feel so, don’t miss out on telling her that you’re sorry that things didn’t work out between you two
    • Being gentle in your approach when you break up with a girlfriend who loves you can make dealing with the pain and heartbreak a lot easier for her and for you

    8. Shut the door on her, gently but firmly

Being trapped in a vicious cycle of breaking up and getting back together with an ex isn’t the only aftermath of a breakup that you need to be wary of. Breadcrumbing – sending flirtatious messages every once in a while to maybe start things over with an ex – is an equally dangerous tendency. You text, she asks you to come over, and one thing leads to another, and you have a problem on your hands.

    • It can lead to confusion and make it near impossible for either party to get over the other
    • In the long run, you need to find a more constructive way to channel your emotions than latching on to the past. Once you’ve announced your decision to break up with a girl you love or have fallen out of love with, close the door on that part of your life
    • You may need additional help if one of you is finding it difficult to move on after a breakup. The easiest way to end your relationship with a girlfriend is to block each other’s contact information for a while. It’ll be hard, but it’ll be worthwhile

    9. Discuss logistics

How to break up with someone you’ve been in a long-term relationship with? Well, apart from the emotional aspect of it, you will also have to factor in the logistical implications of breaking up. If you share a house, bank account, assets, passwords, pets, or children, the breakup can become a whole lot messier. But that doesn’t mean you have to continue staying in an unsatisfying or unhappy relationship.

    • Once the emotions and tempers have settled down on both sides, do sit down with your girlfriend to discuss how to divide up your shared assets and liabilities before you move in different directions. Who gets to keep the house? How soon will the other person move out? Would you like to close the bank account? How would the money be divided? And so on
    • If the split wasn’t amicable, then the best way to do it is to get a neutral third party like a counselor, mediator, or financial advisor involved in the process. At Bonobology, we have an excellent panel of trained counselors and dating coaches who can help you with these steps

    10. Let go

If you’ve thought your decision through rather than acting from an emotional place, you will be at peace with your decision. That means no going back and forth over whether or not you did the right thing. Or trying to justify your actions to your ex or even your trusted friends. Or spending sleepless nights beating yourself up over the decision to break up with a girl you love (or loved). Now, it’s time to let go. Here’s how:

    • Try getting into a new routine after the breakup. This will help in letting go of the urge to want to stay in the old relationship
    • Remember that what’s done cannot be undone. Even if you try to get back together, you cannot eliminate the cracks that have taken hold in the relationship owing to your decision to call it quits
    • Use the post-breakup phase to focus on yourself – your healing, your growth
21 Dos And Don’ts Of Breaking Up With Your Girlfriend

What You Should Not Do When Breaking Up With Your Girlfriend

Now that you know what to do when you decide to break up with your girlfriend, let’s discuss what not to do. For instance, ghosting is one of the most awful ways to end a relationship. No matter how casual or serious, it’s certainly not the way to go if you want to break up with your girlfriend without hurting her. While the breaking up rules are largely contextual, there are certain basic don’ts that you must avoid to make the process of moving on easier for both you and your ex.

    1. How to break up with your girlfriend the right way? Do not break up over text

Unless you have a very good reason for it – say, a girlfriend whose temper issues pose a threat to your safety – it’s not cool to break up over text, email, or a phone call. Even if you have been dating casually or have been together only a few weeks, you still owe her a proper conversation. This becomes even more imperative when you’re going to break up with a girlfriend who loves you.

In a research paper by anthropologist Ilana Gershon, Ph.D., a college student shared that her boyfriend’s relationship-ending text included the sentence, “I’m bad at life.” And a man described his soon-to-be-ex-wife’s two-line email announcing she wanted a divorce. Not the best way to part ways with a partner.

    • If you have been in a long-term relationship with her, denying her that last conversation can strip her of a sense of closure. This, in turn, would make it harder for her to move on
    • You may think conveying your feelings over a text message may be a good idea if you’re grappling with the “I want to break up with my girlfriend but I love her” conundrum. But it’s not. She shouldn’t have to bear the brunt of your confused emotional state

    2. Do not ghost her

If you want to break up with your girlfriend like a man, don’t ghost her. Unless, of course, you have a valid reason to do so. Quietly vanishing from her life can be considered acceptable only and only if she has done something, or is capable of doing something, that threatens your physical or mental well-being.

For instance, say, you’ve just discovered that your girlfriend had been cheating on you with someone else. You may be hurting too much to have that final conversation with her. In that case, just upping and vanishing from her life may well be what you need to do to protect yourself. And the decision to ghost is nearly justified.

    • But if your soon-to-be-ex isn’t violent or a serial cheater or a potential stalker, ghosting is a no-no. By disappearing from her life without an explanation, you are leaving her riddled with questions forever. She may move on eventually, but a part of her will always wonder what happened
    • Even if you have decided to break up with your girlfriend for no reason, denying her the courtesy of one last conversation is still not a good idea

    3. Do not make it personal

If you’re wondering how to break up with your girlfriend the right way, be mindful of this. Know the difference between explanations and accusations, and steer clear of the latter.

    • Avoid statements like “I’m breaking up because you suffocate me” or “It’s impossible to be happy with a whiner like you”
    • Even if those things are true, it helps to not say them out loud. Be sensitive to the fact that you may be breaking her heart with your decision. There is just no need to add insult to injury
    • When conveying your reasons for ending the relationship, it’s best to use “I” statements to make sure she doesn’t feel accused or blamed. For instance, instead of “It’s impossible to be happy with a whiner like you”, you can say, “I no longer feel happy in this relationship”
    stories on breakup and loss

    4. Do not be ambiguous

“I’ve decided to break up with my girlfriend but I love her” – this can be a harrowing realization to come to terms with. But if, for some reason, you have made this tough decision to break up with a girl you love, you already know that it’s going to be one of the hardest things you’ve ever had to do. Particularly when you want to break up with your girlfriend and not leave her with emotional baggage. To handle it in the best way possible,

    • Make sure you’re clear and concise in your message. Don’t create ambiguity with statements like “I need some time off” or “It’ll be better if we didn’t see each other for a while”
    • These statements can be interpreted in different ways, not all of which may suit your intention. She may perceive it as a need for some space in the relationship or your desire to hit the pause button for a while
    • In that case, she may hang on to the hope that you will get back together once this phase is over

    5. Do not waver from your decision

When going to break up with a girlfriend who loves you or whom you love, emotions can get the better of you. She may implore you to rethink your decision. While talking about your relationship, you may both start reminiscing about the good times. And that may make you feel that you can make it work. Make sure you don’t lose sight of,

    • The fact that it’s your emotions clouding your judgment. Even if you do end up giving it another try or decide to spend time with each other, you will be back to where you are in a matter of weeks, if not days. This can leave you trapped in the dangerous on-again-off-again relationship pattern
    • One of the most crucial breaking-up rules – to not decide to end a relationship lightly, but once you do, don’t backtrack
    • Why you chose to end the relationship when your resolve seems to waver. Ask someone else, like a friend, to keep you in check if you’re having trouble reminding yourself

    6. Do not promise to stay friends

Being best friends with one’s ex is always tricky territory. It may start off well as it opens the doorway to having that familiar, comforting part of your life back, minus any obligations or baggage. But soon, jealousy, resentment, and arguments over whose fault it was that the relationship didn’t work begin to rear their ugly head. When that happens, not only your friendship but also your memories of the relationship are tarnished forever. Remember,

    • You may want to stay friends but maintaining a platonic friendship after you’ve been romantically involved with someone rarely works, if at all
    • How to break up with your girlfriend extends far beyond just conveying to her your decision to end the relationship the right way
    • You must also handle the aftermath of a heartbreak well enough to not let a breakup turn into a complicated mess

    7. Do not get trapped in an on-again-off-again relationship

After the breakup, there are going to be moments when you find yourself in the throes of loneliness and unable to stop thinking about your ex. Once you have called it quits, you might go through spells of rushes of remorse that will make you think “I decided to break up with my girlfriend but I love her.”

When that happens, it becomes more important than ever that you consciously remind yourself of the reasons it didn’t work out between you two. This will help you steer clear of the trap of an on-again-off-again relationship, which is nothing more than a toxic mess that will take a toll on both of you.

    • If you find yourself questioning whether or not it was the right decision, try to distract yourself by doing something you love and see that feeling of self-doubt recede
    • Even if you feel that you decided to break up with your girlfriend for no reason, going back may not be the best idea because even if you can’t pin them down, there are always reasons behind pulling the plug on a relationship
    • Take the time to heal, spend time with yourself, and then, focus on moving on

    8. Do not send or respond to emotional messages

You may have decided to cut all ties after the breakup and your ex may have agreed to it too. But following through with it is easier said than done. Men after a breakup find it more difficult to cope with loneliness.

    • In your weak moments, don’t send out a barrage of emotionally charged messages or voicemails to your ex. Don’t drunk dial them either
    • If your ex does any of these things, don’t respond. It may feel hurtful in the moment but it will help get across the message that you’re truly done with the relationship
    • To break up with your girlfriend like a man also means standing by your decision no matter how tough the going gets
    Follow breaking up rules
Steer clear of emotionally charged conversations

    9. Do not act rashly

If you’re wondering, “How should I break up with my girlfriend?”, then one crucial rule of thumb is not to act rashly. Make a decision only when you have calmly evaluated the pros and cons of breaking up. Acting rashly puts you at risk of making decisions that you may regret later.

    • If you’re breaking up with someone you’ve just started dating, consider whether you can work through your issues, and build a solid relationship
    • If you’re in a long-term relationship, think about the consequences it can have on both your lives
    • If you’re stuck at the “I need to break up with my girlfriend but I love her” crossroads, think long and hard about whether or not you’re sure about ending the relationship

    10. Do not play fast and loose with her feelings

One moment you tell her that you want to break up, and then kiss her the next. Or you continue to behave as if you’re still together long after you’ve broken up. Such erratic behavior patterns do more harm than good. It makes it seem like you decided to break up with your girlfriend for no reason.

    • Once you’ve made up your mind to end the relationship, don’t play fast and loose with her feelings
    • It’s essential that you stay in control of your feelings
    • Just because you miss her one day doesn’t make it all right for you to show up at her door, expecting her to humor you

    11. Do not sleep with her

What not to do after the breakup? Whatever you do, do not sleep with your girlfriend after dumping her. This is one of the breaking-up rules that remain non-negotiable, no matter the circumstances or reasons behind the decision.

    • Sleeping with an ex is a bad but tempting idea. You do it once, you will want to do it again. Then, one of you will want more but the other may not be ready
    • The hurt and angst you both lived through when you first decided to break up will be magnified manifold, with feelings of confusion and betrayal thrown into the mix
    • The simple answer to how to end things with the girlfriend you love is that you have to be clear, concise, and almost clinical in your approach
    • While you must be considerate of her feelings, you cannot let emotions weaken your resolve or cloud your judgment

    Key Pointers

    • Breaking up with your girlfriend is hard, but it can be done respectfully if your feelings are honest
    • Be very respectful and empathetic to her feelings
    • Circumstances may vary for every breakup, but most people appreciate it if they’re given closure
    • It may seem that a conversation is sufficient, but it may take many conversations to get all the logistics and no-contact rules figured out
    • Do not dawdle once you’ve decided. If you want to get back with her, then you must work out the issues in your relationship first

Just like relationships, all breakups are unique. The right way, moment, and time to convey that you’re no longer interested in pursuing the relationship depend on your circumstances. The kind of connection you share with your girlfriend and your reasons for breaking up – all play a role in determining how and when you should pull the plug. And when you do decide to end things, make sure you stay on that path.

When you fall in love with someone, it’s not necessary to make them the center of your universe and it’s not necessary to demand the same from them. That is the cornerstone of healthy relationships, as it could make your partner feel trapped and suffocated. If you want to learn how to stop being toxic in a relationship, then accept that they cannot cater to every single need of yours, and you shouldn’t expect them to give in to all your demands.

How Does You Being Toxic Affect Your Relationships?

“When you are exhibiting toxic ways in a relationship, it becomes hard for people to love you, rely on you, trust you and find comfort in you. There’s a certain value that you bring to all your relationships, and when toxicity begins to creep in, the relationship gets wrecked. Toxicity can also be in the form of hostile behavior, being negligent, selfish, vindictive, and also being clingy,” says Dr. Bhonsle.

If that sounds familiar to some of your traits, you might want to try to unlearn toxic behaviors in a relationship. Because this is what it can do to your relationship:

    • You are no more their safe space: Your partner might have confided in you earlier, but now because of your controlling behavior, they might stop. Instead, you will see them spending more time or sharing secrets with their friends and family instead of you

When you engage in such tactics, you might end up damaging your relationship beyond repair. It will impact the quality of your romance. But even though a lot of damage has been done, it is never too late to change yourself for the better. The journey of that change begins with addressing a rather uncomfortable question: Am I toxic in my relationship?

Why am I toxic and how to change?

11 Expert Tips To Stop Being Toxic In A Relationship

You can love them dearly but that still does not guarantee being in a good relationship. Despite your best intentions, you might be the cause of problem to your loved ones because of your toxic habits. And more often than not, relationships become toxic even when neither partner is bad on their own.

The problematic behaviors that lead to toxicity in a relationship stem from deep-seated insecurities and complexes, which could be rooted in your childhood, early life experiences or past relationships. Below are some expert-approved tips on how to stop being toxic in a relationship:

    1. Find a relationship therapist or counselor

Without the help of mental health professionals, it could be difficult to understand the nature of your toxicity and what might be causing it. Only a therapist will help you unravel your behavioral patterns and discover the reason behind them. They will show you the path to healing and becoming a better version of yourself and teach you how to be in healthy relationships. All of these processes are integral to how to stop being toxic in a relationship.

“Therapy becomes a crucial aspect in this situation because the person who thinks they’re being toxic in a relationship needs a neutral person to understand the entire scenario. Many couples have shared their experience on how talk therapy helped in their relationship and made them feel good. A licensed professional will know how to handle the situation and how to guide the person in stressful situations”, says Dr. Bhonsle.

If you can relate to the signs that indicate that you’re the toxic one in your relationship and are looking for help to break your behavior patterns, Bonobology’s panel of licensed and skilled counselors is here for you.

    2. Shift from blaming to understanding

This is exactly what happened in my previous relationship when both me and my partner were having a very hard time. There was constant blame-shifting and name calling and I was always at the receiving end of it. When I was blamed for something, I’d accept it as constructive criticism and tried to do better by understanding his standpoints. But when my former partner was blamed for something, he refused to come to an understanding and would take it as an insult. He would blame me for blaming him. The irony here is quite amusing, isn’t it? I realized how blame-shifting in relationship harms it.

If you are wondering “how to change my toxic tendencies?”, then look at how you assign blame. To figure out how to stop being toxic in a relationship, you need to find ways to be more understanding and not take your partner’s concerns as an affront. Take a step back from the blame game and look at the entire situation from another perspective.

    3. What to do if you are the toxic person in a relationship? Own your actions

If I have learned something in my relationships, it’s how a simple act of taking accountability can change things for the better. If you are wondering “Why am I so toxic in relationships?”, it is probably because you do not reflect enough upon your own actions.

The answer to how to stop being toxic in a relationship will come to you when you start taking responsibility for your actions and realize their reaction is a consequence of your actions. It’s exactly as Newton said, “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”

If you said something to hurt or offend your partner, be sure to own up to it. That’s one of the ways how you can stop being a toxic person in a new relationship and focus on yours and your partner’s well being. Apologize as soon as you realize that you did wrong and make amends with your significant other.

    4. Bring an interest in self-growth

“Look for self-growth. Compare where you were last year and where you are now. Compare all kinds of growth, from financial to emotional and relationship growth. Everything matters in the making of you as a person. If you don’t see yourself growing in any aspect of your life, then it’s time you build yourself up,” says Dr. Bhonsle.

When you shift the focus on being a better person, it becomes much easier to be a better version in your relationship too. Build up your own self worth and try to improve yourself. Those who are in healthy relationships, have a much better sense of self and make their own mental health their foremost priority. This will create a ripple effect and help you become a better partner too.

    5. How to not be toxic in a relationship? Show love

Have you ever stopped and wondered why we love the way we love? It’s because most of the time, even subconsciously, how we love our partner is the way we wish to be loved. Each has a different way of loving. Some women buy expensive things for their partner and some men show love without saying it. At the end of the day, you both want to be loved by each other. And if you continue being a toxic person in a relationship, neither of you has the chance of giving or receiving love. Here is how you can do that:

    • Love with your words: Instead of resorting to physical violence or verbal abuse during a fight or argument, try to use kinder words or phrases to placate the situation
    • Spend quality time with them: Don’t just laze around in bed after a fight or eat dinner quietly, without speaking to them. Try to make it up to them. Bring out a board game, or a new bottle of wine to cheer them up
    • Do not give them the silent treatment: While it is important to take time off and cool down after an argument, do not give your partner the silent treatment for too long, when they reach out. It is one of the signs of an abusive relationship
stop being toxic in a new relationship

    6. How to change my  toxic tendencies? Communicate your worries

If you are still asking, “Why am I toxic and how to change it?”, then communication is the answer for you. Stonewalling will never resolve any of the problems you are facing with your partner. In fact, it will only create more.

Communication problems in relationships are quite common. All you have to do is communicate all your worries, troubles, sadness and frustration openly. But be mindful of the words you use. Make sure you don’t hurt or offend your partner in the name of an open discussion. Open communication allows you to speak out about the things that bother you. It will help you to stop being a toxic girlfriend or boyfriend.

    7. Healthy relationships have empathy

Empathy is the backbone of every healthy relationship and toxic people are no empaths. It is time to change that, if you want to be less toxic in a relationship.

With a lack of empathy, it will get difficult to bond and build a meaningful relationship with your partner. Once you cultivate empathy for others, questions such as “Why am I toxic in my relationship?” and “How to stop being a toxic girlfriend/boyfriend?” will begin to dissipate.

“One of the ways you can learn to cultivate empathy is by spending time with those less fortunate than you. Spend time with people who are differently-abled or can’t make their ends meet. By spending time with unfortunate people, even the most ruthless will begin to feel empathy and kindness. Get involved in kitchen activities or explore activities that you’ve never tried your hand at before. Some people are so stoic and stubborn that they will never find empathy for anyone but themselves,” says Dr. Bhonsle.

    8. Why am I so toxic in relationships? Because of your ego

You will know how to stop being toxic in a relationship when you decide to let go of your ego. A toxic person is known to maintain a certain image. When they feel that image is at risk, they tend to become defensive. Learn to put aside your ego as it simply worsens toxic behavior.

Dr. Bhonsle says, “Nothing scars a relationship like ego. Ego is basically a giant wall that comes between two people. When you create that wall too high and too strong, nobody can break it down. Nobody can even climb that wall to reach you on the other side of it. Ego is this – I come from a rich family and I need things to go my way. I am a man. I am in control of the relationship.

“The only time you will know to let go of your ego is when that ego is damaging your relationship or has already done the damage. An egoistic person prevents from asking for any kind of help. If he wants a promotion at work, his ego will prevent him from asking for it. An egoistic husband will refuse to ask for his wife’s help. An egoistic wife will never ask for sex.”

    9. Assume positive intent to stop worsening a toxic relationship

Negative thoughts and constantly questioning your partner’s intent will most certainly damage the foundation of your relationship. No wonder you will constantly end up wondering, “Why am I being toxic in my relationship?” If you keep questioning your partner’s intents, then you will start thinking that maybe you are in a negative relationship.

When you assume negative intent, you become skeptical of every action your partner takes and that is considered toxic behavior. Not only does it worsen your own mental health, but it also makes things very difficult for your partner. When you look for the worst in people, that’s what you will find. But when you look for the best in people and assume positive intent, life will get easier and more peaceful. And you should especially try to be more trusting with your loved ones.

    10. How to change my toxic tendencies? Invite feedback

“Invite feedback from someone else in your relationships. Whether it’s your partner or your family members or just a close friend, ask them for feedback if you think you are being toxic in a relationship. If you find yourself lost and in need of a support network, ask the people who love you to find the lost parts of yourself. People who love you know what you are like. They will find out if you are screwing up in life or being uneven with yourself. All you have to do is reconnect and relive to stop being in a toxic relationship,” says Dr. Bhonsle.

    11. Maintain your personal space

One of the significant ways to stop being toxic in a relationship is to make time for yourself and be alone, as a form of self care. Most toxic people tend to have low self-esteem. They radiate their toxicity toward others as a way to boost their low image of themselves. You will learn how to stop being toxic in a relationship when you start practicing self-love. Learn to cater to your needs all by yourself. Spending time with your loved ones will also help.

So now you know what to do if you are the toxic person in a relationship. Pay attention to your toxic behavior and be mindful of it. Concentrate on self-care, healing and taking time to grow as a person. Firstly, congratulate yourself on asking the question, “Why am I toxic and how to change that?” It’s the first and the most difficult step to take. And you’ve conquered that. The rest will come naturally if you focus on adopting positive habits.

    Key Pointers

    • If you have a superiority complex or heightened self worth, you might be showing toxic behavior in your relationship
    • Toxic behavior can completely break a relationship. To stop being a toxic partner, you should restrict any controlling behavior and be open to understanding your spouse
    • Communicate your worries instead of repressing them to create a more healthy relationship
    • Try to not be egotistical with those you love. Make an effort to understand and appreciate their criticism

Does He Like Me Back? 17 Ways To Know

    [ad_1]

One of the bigger complications that start in youth is having ‘crushes’. And with crushes, come endless questions, the most popular being: Does he like me back?

If you have a crush and you haven’t told him, then you start to wonder what he feels about you. And to put that mind to ease, we can help you out. Instead of constantly obsessing over how your crush might be feeling, go through the list below carefully. This way you’ll know more clearly how he really feels about you.

Does He Like Me Back? 17 Ways To Know

During the transition from the easiness of childhood to the confusion of adulthood, everyone goes through similar emotions of attraction, crushes, first loves, and of course, first heartbreaks. You see your friends, and occasionally even yourself, circle the same doubts of “He likes me”, “He likes me not”, “Is he genuinely interested in me too?”, “How do I find out if he likes me back?”

Be it your teens, twenties, thirties, or forties, these questions persist whenever you navigate the dating scene. You’re not alone, because when it comes to understanding guys and their feelings, they can be hard to read for many of us. So how do you find out if your crush likes you back?

We have compiled a list of 17 different ways for you to answer this never-ending “does my crush like me back” puzzle. If any of these are relatable for you two people, it might be time to reconsider the relationship that you have been seeing as a platonic connection.

    1. Body language betrayal (but the good kind)

Body language is one of the primary indicators of a person’s interest in you. When it comes to guys, there are a few actions that can disclose his intentions. For example, does he lean in when you are talking to him? Does he have prolonged eye contact with you while having a conversation? Pay attention to his mannerisms as they will tell you a lot about how he feels for you.

    • He laughs with you: Are there moments when you are hanging out with him and you crack a joke which would make other people cringe, but he laughs aloud? When you see him, does his face light up?
    • He looks straight into your eyes: Especially during your one on one interactions, do you notice how his eyes never lose sight of you?
    • Holding you close: There may have been a romantic moment or two between you both, when he puts his arm around you or holds your hand leaving you in big smiles. Does he try to stay physically close to you or engage in subtle touches like hands grazing or caressing your hair?

Research explored the relationship between interpersonal attraction and enacted behavior in 2018 and came up with tangible proof of the importance of attraction in the creation and control of interpersonal relationships, and how that attraction is highlighted by particular actions linked with trust. So if your answers to the questions above have been yes, chances are your suspicions are correct and he does like you back.

    2. He tries to impress you endlessly

Have you ever been out on a first date with a guy you really like and he just cannot shut up about his accomplishments and achievements? My friend Camille shared her story, “I went on this date where the guy, although chivalrous, kept bragging about his company and his proficiency in his field. By the end of the date, I was so fed up that I couldn’t get away fast enough.”

It can be quite irritating and off-putting and there certainly are times when you, like Camille, can’t help but think “Does he actually like me, or is he just in love with himself?” But in an incredibly twisted way, this is still a sign that he likes you.

When guys like someone, they primarily want to make sure that the person is impressed enough to be interested in them. Bragging about their accomplishments is a safe space for guys because their achievements make them happy about themselves. So they seek to impress you with their talents as well.

    3. He goes out of his way to be around you

It is a common human tendency to want to hang out and spend more time with the people who make you happy. If you are looking for an answer to “Is he into me?”, pay a little attention to his comings and goings around you. Oftentimes, when guys like someone back, they tend to blow off plans with friends or create plans with you separately to ensure that you end up spending quality time with them. They don’t play hard to upset you, but actually put all their effort in being with you.

Even if it is a mundane chore like getting dry cleaning, he won’t complain about accompanying you on your errand. The next time you hang out with him, maintain eye contact with him and seriously question him if he had any other plans, which might have been better than going to the dry cleaners with you. If he gets evasive about answering the question and is unable to act normal, you might have your answer!

    4. He drunk texts/calls you

Growing up with crushes, drunk texts and calls come as no surprise to most of us. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions and makes you forward and honest, allowing oneself to lean forward and reveal all their inner, deep feelings. It is an old adage that “A drunk mind speaks a sober heart”, and we couldn’t agree more.

A study found that one of the top three reasons for drunk dialing was “called a person you were romantically interested in or involved with to see if they were willing to meet you later in the evening”. According to the same study, intoxication leads to unfiltered honesty which gets expressed when the person drunk dials you.

So the next time he calls you when he’s drunk and your mind fills with the thoughts of “Does he like me or does he only like me when he’s drunk?”, yes he does like you back, and no, it’s not just him being drunk. Chances are he’s a shy guy who sometimes gets nervous around you and alcohol just helps him express his feelings for you without self-consciousness.

There’s a flip side to this, of course. Imagine a scenario where a guy likes you but you have no feelings for him. He drunk calls to tell you how much he wishes you were with him. You might then wonder, “Is he into me after I rejected him?” Alcohol can lead to revelations of all kinds, from the ones that are welcome to the ones that make you cringe.

    5. He texts you first and keeps the conversation going

There are several ways guys hint they like you through text, and texting you first every time is a good sign of that. Guys do not go out of their way to text someone (unless it’s their mom) and if he texts you first, be it just a meme, a “How’s your day been so far?”, or even a simple “Hey!”, be assured that he does like you back.

Of course, texting first cannot be the only indicator that he has strong feelings for you. Guys are simple creatures, in the way that if they find you interesting, like you, and want to make sure that you know it too, they will keep the conversation going at all costs. This is one of the major ways guys hint they like you through text.

    6. He gets jealous

Jealousy, although an ugly emotion, is a sure-fire way to find out a man’s feelings toward you and is a great sign to confirm if he is into you or not. Research on romantic jealousy in relationships discovered that jealousy in relationships is associated with insecure and anxious attachments. Of course, there are more mature ways to know if he likes you back, but if you are a little juvenile like me, the green-eyed monster always has your back.

    • Getting jealous of other guys: If other men flirt with you, compliment you, or even look at you around a guy who likes you back, try as he might, the jealousy will show up on his face and sometimes even in his actions
    • Pay attention to his body language around your friends: He might become uncomfortable when your friends join you two on plans, as he was hoping to have you all to himself
    • Does he ask if you are seeing other men? This is a great sign to determine if he likes you or not. If he is taking an interest in your love life and openly trying to enquire about it, he is probably interested in you

    7. He teases you and gives you cute nicknames

I had a best friend who had a very specific nickname for me. It’s not like he didn’t have other female friends, he just reserved that nickname for me to the point that I debated whether or not he knew my actual name. Fast forward to a month later, he confessed that he had liked me for almost two months and he wanted to see if we could date.

If you’re scratching your head wondering, “Does he like me or is it in my head?”, then think about whether he indulges in such kind of silly behavior with you and listen intently to what he says to you. Playful behavior is a huge indicator of a person’s willingness to engage in romantic intimacy. Giving you nicknames like ‘pretty girl’ or ‘my girl’, teasing you endlessly, irritating you – all of these are subtle signals that he genuinely likes you and probably wants to be more than friends.

    8. He wants to know your insecurities on a deeper level and helps you accept them

When you like someone, you want them to be happy and secure in who they are. It is all too easy to get caught up in the web of insecurities and self-hatred, especially with questions of self-doubt like “Is he into me?” Feeling inadequate, like you aren’t enough, and that he deserves better than you, are thoughts that can eat you up inside.

However, if a guy gives you time and space to open up and unveil your insecurities and then stays to help you overcome them, can there be a bigger green flag? He remember all the little details about everything you tell him and consciously makes the effort to check in on you. If you feel secure enough to be the worst (not abusive) version of yourself in front of the guy you like and have him accept you regardless, you can definitely put your doubts about his affections to rest.

    9. Is he seeing other girls?

How to know if a guy likes you? See if he has any other romantic interests, or if he still talks to people from his past relationships. If he does, then there is a good chance he does not feel anything too real for you and might even be a player. But if he is not involved with anyone, then it is a classic sign that something could be brewing between the two of you.

When a guy is genuinely attracted to you, he wants to make sure that you know (albeit in a roundabout way) that you’re the only person who captures his attention. So if you see him never talk about his attractions in conversations with you or even pay much attention to potential romantic candidates who come up to him, trust that you won’t need to worry about the ‘how do I know he likes me back conundrum at all!

    10. He is protective of you

In ancient times, men were supposed to be the brave protectors and women soft and nurturing. We have definitely come a long way from the archaic gender associations (hello feminism!) but if there is one thing that hasn’t changed, it is the male tendency to protect that which he deems precious.

A guy showing that he is protective of you (and therefore, likes you) manifests in small ways. Rosa, a reader who has been in a relationship for 2.5 years, shares, “Moving me away from traffic when we were walking on the road, helping me out with tasks like carrying heavy stuff, making sure that I eat on time, etc. – these are all the things my partner would do for me when we were ‘friends’. It used to make me wonder – Does he like me or is he just being nice? So one day, I asked him head-on. And here we are!” If your guy has been doing little things for you, it may just be more than chivalry.

    11. He tries to look his best around you to make a good impression

According to evolutionary psychology theories, we often want to appear our best, most irresistible selves in order to entice possible romantic partners into pursuing a relationship with us. It dates back to ancient times when evolution and continuing the human race was the sole priority of procreation but in today’s times, this action is a foolproof sign of his attraction to you.

Weston, now married to his husband of 2 years, shares with us, “When we were just friends, he would come to meet me in shorts and his raggiest, most comfortable t-shirt. He never cared for my opinion until he started liking me romantically.” He laughs, and adds, “So huge was the contrast in the way he dressed up for me after he caught feelings, that I was forced to wonder if he liked me back. He did. And here we are.”

    • His dressing style has changed: Has he started dressing a little bit more edgy, or is trying to incorporate more fashion trends in how he looks?
    • His things look newer: From his watch to his belt to his shoes — he does not seem to be repeating clothes anymore and everything looks fresh off the rack
    • More put together overall: Even if you two are just heading out for a casual ice cream run, you notice how he removes his eyeglasses to put on contact lenses for you and there is mousse in his hair

So the next time you’re with a guy, try to see if he’s making an effort to look nicer for you or seem cooler, friendlier, smarter, or funnier. These tiny indicators can help you achieve your answer with no confusion and who knows, maybe you’ll find your forever partner on the way.

    12. Making you smile or laugh to get your attention

A study compared flirting styles and behaviors. According to it, traditional male flirts usually exhibit assertive and open behavior, and engaging and teasing behaviors are displayed by the more playful flirts. Playful flirts don’t take flirting too seriously and their main agenda is to have fun in the process. Their behavior includes cracking jokes to make you notice them, trying to catch your eye in some goofy way, essentially making you laugh and realize the amount of fun you have with them around.

On the flipside, other guys who are traditional male flirts keep their intentions clear when it comes to sending you signals about liking you. They tend to be well-dressed for you and make sure you know that they are in it for some sort of commitment.

TikTok has endless videos on ‘classic signs a guy likes you’ where guys reveal what they do when they like someone, and making you smile or laugh is at the top! Guys love it when the person they are into is happy and full of life – and if the reason is them, then even better. If he’s not afraid of acting weird and silly just for a laugh from you, know that he is love-struck and it’s just a matter of time before a confession comes your way.

    13. A good sign is that he talks to his friends about you

Friendships are ride-or-die, especially when your friends are people whom you’d trust with your life. Whenever you have news, your friends are definitely the first people you want to go and share your news with and you can trust them to always be happy for you (even if they tease you mercilessly).

Having said that, if you find out from anywhere (*cough* mutual friends *cough*) that a guy who you think is a great catch, talked to his friends about you, it can help clear up so many of your doubts. Especially because you can trust him to be completely honest with his closest friends. If he is talking about you with others, there is a good chance he sees you more than just a friend.

    14. He replies quickly to you

I once dated a guy who would never text me first. He couldn’t even be bothered to reply to my texts on time. His reason? I’d give you one but he changed them so much that they kept blurring after one point. I hated that relationship. It made me feel like the basic communication that I expected from him was too much and that created resentment and doubts along the lines of “Does he like me or is it in my head?” that ultimately led to our break-up.

The guy I dated after him was the complete opposite. He would reply to my texts so quickly it made me feel unsettled and even confused. Not only that, he’d text me first and voluntarily share the happenings of his day. After the relationship I had before, this was a completely new arena and it made me confused but also cherished. This was a relationship where I didn’t need to beg for attention, where I was a priority and he made sure that he let me know it.

This is a huge indication of a man’s affection for you. Answering your text quickly, making sure you know that he prioritizes his communications with you when the two of you aren’t together, and not making you feel like you’re unimportant in his life, it all goes a long way to assure you that he likes you back.

    15. He stays off his phone when he is with you

In the 21st century, when phones and social media are everything, parting from your mobile for even a short period of time seems like an unrealistic expectation. Everyone is updating moments of their life and every second reveals a new occasion to be documented.

In such an era, finding someone who prefers talking to your face instead of constantly hopping onto their social media accounts is a rarity in itself. And if you find someone who actually sets his phone aside for the entire duration that you are with them, it just proves how much they prefer your company. Staying off his phone to spend time with you is a legitimate reason to vanquish the ‘How do i know he likes me back?’ doubt from your mind.

    16. He remembers the little things about you

Of the five types of love languages, dating someone whose love language is gift-giving is perhaps my favorite. Probably because gift-receiving is how I express love in my own way. Nothing beats that good feeling of being handed a box wrapped in shiny wrapping paper, tearing it open, and realizing that you have been given something that you have wanted forever.

Having the guy you like remember your little quirks goes a long way toward cementing affections. Barb, a 25-year-old freelance designer, shares with us, “I really liked my friend, Seth. I used to wonder if he liked me back. I remember instances when I was late for class and missed my daily caffeine intake only to find him waiting for me with an extra cup of coffee outside class. Or when I would be making notes and not paying attention, until later, when I’d realize that he kept handing me the right colored pen I needed for each subheading. These are small instances that warmed my heart and made me realize he likes me too.”

Do you have a Seth in your life that does these kind of nice things for you? If you do, then he’s a keeper. His love language might not be gift giving, but it could be acts of service which makes him so devoted to you.

    17. He gives you special attention around his friends

Getting you to hang out with his friends is a big step in any budding romance. However, if you are still at the ‘does he actually like me back?’ stage, one thing that you can do is observe how he treats you around his friends and how his friends act around you.

If they like you and are perfectly normal in their behavior around you, you’ll see them tease him about you, or find them telling you embarrassing stories about him. These are indications that they approve of you for their friend. Also, if you see him bringing you into conversations around his friends, being comfortable with having you around them, or finding ways to have subtle physical contact with you (like casually slinging his arm around your shoulders, maintaining considerable eye contact, etc.), you can ease your apprehension because trust me, he likes you back.

    Key Pointers

    • Understanding guys and their emotions is a hard step, especially when you’re trying to understand if he likes you
    • Noticing the language and behavior of guys around you can help you identify the ‘does he like me back’ conundrum
    • Identifying if he likes you is the first step. Being confident and being your best self will help in knowing his affections and reciprocating them in the best way possible for both of you

Determining whether someone likes you back can be an exhausting endeavor, especially when you cannot just go up to them and ask. However, knowing there are clear signs of someone’s affections toward you definitely helps a lot and you don’t always need a dating coach to figure these things out.

Instead of giving in to the fears of rejection and uncertainty, and never finding out what could have been, own your self-worth, accept your inner confident spirit, arm yourself with these 17 tips, and find out whether he likes you back. It would save you a lot of heartbreak and regret in the future and help you ascend to a happier, more fulfilled version of yourself.

They have an instant liking for a man who can light up a conversation with some humor. If you are able to constantly make her laugh, you will see her happier in the relationship.

One of my college friend told me that this is the secret to his relationship. He said ” When she’s mad at you, the best thing you can do is make her laugh. It reminds her that you can make her happy and whatever anger she is holding, just evaporates. If I had to give one tip for a happy relationship, it is this- make her laugh!”

    Prove your love to her

However, while thinking about how to make my girl happy, don’t go overboard with this one. How to Love Yourself – Couples retreats and Online Couples Therapy

    [ad_1]

(when you don’t feel as if you deserve it…)

Loving yourself is an ongoing challenging process for a lot of us. It involves nurturing a positive relationship with yourself, accepting who you are, and prioritizing your well-being. If you want to know how to love yourself unconditionally keep reading.

    Stop talking trash to yourself

Or as we say in the biz: “challenge negative self-talk.” It’s something I take very seriously these days.

It’s more than just eliminating all the trash talk that puts you down for the slightest transgressions. You have to start speaking kindly to yourself. It’s time to be your own best friend. Seriously, I mean it.

Recently I noticed a voice in my head about leaving dishes in the sink. As I tuned in, I was amazed at how hostile that internal critic could turn about a few plates.

The key part was that I noticed. I said to myself, “Excellent, girl, for noticing!” Practicing self-love and learning how to love is first about identifying that internal critic.

    Identify the Inner Critic

Feeling bad is easy when your inner critic drowns out your positive feelings about yourself.

Pay attention to your inner dialogue. Tune into the words.

    • Who talks like that?
    • Is it a male or a female voice?
    • If it were a phone call, could you guess who it was?

In my case, it was my Dad, a former Navy man who often talked about keeping things “in ship shape.” He was hopelessly challenged to achieve that goal. He had five kids and an ADHD wife. Seven sets of dishes in the sink would have been intolerable for him.

    Cultivate self-compassion

Once I knew it was my Dad, I tried to offer myself positive thoughts and feelings. I put things into perspective. I felt good to recognize how dramatically different my life is from his. I also discovered a wonderful resource that relieved shameful feelings about a messy house.

I don’t live in an Instagram world, and neither do you.

Treat yourself with kindness and understanding every day. Work hard to become your own best friend.

    Forget about positive affirmations

Your inner critic thrives on them and mocks us for even trying.

Talk to yourself in a regular voice instead. E.g. “It’s no big deal. I really don’t feel like doing them right now. I know they’ll always be cleaned up when I’m in the mood.”

    Put things into perspective

My Dad worked in a military or para-military organization for most of his life. He wanted to instill order, structure, and self-discipline.

I have worked as a psychologist in mental health. I value honesty, integrity, kindness, generosity, courage, and confidence. While I would love to have my Dad’s self-discipline and orderliness, it is not my top priority.

Knowing where my values are helps me accept that I’m not good at everything. I’ll have to tackle negative thoughts pragmatically.

My flaws are real, but so are my strengths. Identify your strengths and take pride in them.

    Practice self-care

Give yourself a pep talk when you are resistant about doing self-care routines. When I’m sluggish about exercising, I’ll hear myself say, “Just do it. You never want to do it but when you do you always feel better. It won’t take a lot of time, just…” and I find myself moving in that direction.

If sleep is an issue, create a bedtime routine you look forward to, and start it early. Sleep is one of the most critical ways to feel happy.

    Surround yourself with positive people

Your closest buddies can get depressed and grouchy, but they don’t have to take it out on you. Spending time with people who overtly or covertly put you down intensifies a lack of self-love.

Set boundaries with family members that spell out how you want to be treated and what you won’t accept. Stay close when they are positive about you. Do the opposite when they have nothing kind to say.

Cultivate relationships that nurture self-esteem and minimize contact with those who bring you down.

    Set healthy boundaries

You have a right to set limits on how you will be treated in relationships. And you have a right to expect those boundaries to be respected. Saying goodbye to toxic friends is an act of self-care and self-respect.

Respect your needs and values. There yours, and you don’t need everyone to embrace them, but you do need them to respect them.  Communicate them clearly to others. Learn what issues are on your side of the street and what belongs on the other side. Keep those clearly delineated.

Get comfortable saying, “I hear that this is a problem. It’s just not MY problem.” The kind of love you want to cultivate for yourself is: “I’m okay, you’re okay.”

    Prioritize self-reflection

Take time for self-reflection. Write in a journal to cultivate introspection. Explore new passions and interests. Accept your emotions and needs, and make choices aligned with those needs.

    Celebrate your achievements

I have a fitness coach who is absolutely ‘Team Kathy.’ She applauds my accomplishments, no matter how small. It’s infectious! I now take her lead and celebrate even small milestones.

Self-improvement comes in fits and starts. There are wins and there are gaps in between where you can’t find self-motivation. Allow yourself to rest when necessary. Trust it to change again.

    Practice gratitude

The results are in. Practicing gratitude daily has proven physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits. Gratitude is “a strong feeling of appreciation.”

Cultivate a gratitude mindset by regularly acknowledging and appreciating positive aspects of your life. Focus on the things you are grateful for. This can shift your perspective and foster self-love.

Remember, self-love is a journey, and it takes time and effort. Be patient and gentle with yourself, and remember that you deserve love and care just as much as anyone else. Reach out for help and support from loving friends, family, or professionals when you need assistance. Therapy or counseling can help work through deeper issues and develop self-love. But no one’s voice is more powerful than your own. Begin today.

Divorce Regret: What Is It, Signs, And Ways To Deal

    [ad_1]

Whenever the matter of ending a marriage is brought up, the most common advice is to not make the decision to divorce lightly. While it’s true that staying in an unhappy marriage can be a deeply stifling and frustrating experience, calling it quits before you have exhausted all your options to try and make it work with your spouse can lead to overwhelming feelings of divorce regret.

Once the divorce decree has been signed, there is usually no going back. If, in hindsight, you begin to realize that ending the marriage was a mistake, the regret and guilt after divorce can linger on for the rest of your life. After all, divorce reconciliation stories are few and far between. Statistics suggest that only 6% of divorced couples reconcile. On the other hand, the divorce regret statistics, according to a survey published in the Daily Mail, are overwhelming, with 54% of divorcees “wishing they had never ended their marriage”.

If you’re currently contemplating ending your marriage, these numbers can lead you to wonder, “Will my ex-wife ever regret divorce?”, “Will my ex-husband wish we didn’t go through with the divorce?”, or “Will I regret getting a divorce?” If you’re already divorced and grappling with thoughts like, “Leaving my wife was a mistake” or “I wish I hadn’t left my husband”, we can only imagine the emotional turmoil you’re facing. To help ease your confusion, let’s take a look at what regretting divorce means, what are its signs, and ways to cope, in consultation with counseling psychologist Shazia Saleem (Masters in Psychology), who specializes in separation and divorce counseling.

    What is Divorce Regret?

The end of a marriage often leads you down a road paved with many emotions, among which, regret can be one of the most challenging to navigate. Divorce regret refers to the profound sense of remorse or uncertainty experienced that comes in the wake of the dissolution of a marital bond. As indicated by the aforementioned divorce regret statistics, this phenomenon is more common than we might think.

Explaining what brings on this sense of regret and guilt after divorce, Shazia explains, “Divorce often tends to be a reactionary decision, fueled by negative emotions such as rage, anger, and revenge. Any decisions based on extreme emotions, whether positive or negative, cannot be practical. Add to the fact that there is still negativity and stigma attached to divorce in most societies, guilt and regrets often starts to creep in once the emotions fueling the decision to divorce begin to settle down.”

This can lead one to wonder, “When does divorce regret set in?” Well, there is no specific timeline for it. It can occur at any time post-separation, often when the pain and angst associated with what issues led to the breakdown of the marriage are replaced by “what if” questions and “what could have been” scenarios.

For instance, if the decision to walk away was prompted by extramarital issues, both partners may experience regret divorce after infidelity, but in different ways. The partner who cheated may regret that their actions caused the marriage to fall apart. And the one who has been cheated on may regret hastily walking away from the marriage.

If this has led you to wonder, “Will I regret getting a divorce?” or “I miss being married sometimes, does that mean I’m regretting divorce?”, know that not everyone second-guesses this decision with a feeling of remorse. The divorce regret psychology varies depending on the circumstances leading to the divorce, the quality of life after it, and your journey of healing from this setback.

Just because you think of your ex or feel nostalgic about the happy times in your marriage doesn’t necessarily mean you regret the divorce. As Reddit user, Soggy_Cartographer18, says, “I hate that my marriage didn’t work out. I miss the idea of being married. I miss having another adult around. I miss the societal benefits of being married. On days like today, I see other couples doing the Valentine’s Day Challenge on Facebook and I feel pangs of “Why don’t I get that?” And I am lonely at times and I am sad. OLD can be demoralizing when it’s bad.

“However, on Friday at work, I was talking to a woman who just separated and I said that while I miss being married, I don’t miss my ex. And my loneliest divorced day is still better than being with him. Feeling lonely because you’re alone is one thing. Feeling lonely because your spouse is ignoring you for yet another evening is worse.”

To help you identify what it is that you’re feeling, let’s look at the top signs of divorce regret:

    1. Idealization of the past

Divorce regret psychology is rooted in looking at the past with a sense of rose-tinted nostalgia that leads to romanticizing the past, selectively recalling pleasant memories while glossing over conflicts that led to the marriage breakdown.

Shazia says, “At this stage, self-doubt begins to creep in and you’re no longer sure if getting a divorce was the right choice.” You may be idealizing the past and wishing that you hadn’t let your ex go, if,

    • Thoughts like, “I left my husband for my lover and regret it” or “Leaving my wife was a mistake”, dominate your headspace
    • You can no longer remember the toxic traits, issues, and annoyances that drove you up the wall
    • Your reminiscence of the relationship is limited to the honeymoon phase
    • You have a feeling of fondness toward your ex

    2. Overwhelming feelings of guilt

Shazia says, “A person who regrets going through with their decision to divorce their spouse may start guilt-tripping themselves about the entire episode.” Here’s what that can sound like,

    • My marriage ended because of me
    • I should have tried harder to make the marriage work
    • I left my husband for my lover and regret it
    • I was not good enough, and that’s why my marriage failed

These accusations leveled against one can start a cycle of sadness. At its root, is the desire to have done things differently.

    3. Reluctance to seek new relationships

While it’s natural to be wary of putting yourself out there after the end of a marriage, most people revive their romantic life after the divorce, at some point. According to a survey, 93% of divorcees get into new relationships. So, if it has been some time since your divorce and you still experience an unusual hesitation about starting a new relationship, it can hint at lingering feelings for an ex-spouse or a deep-seated fear of repeating past mistakes.

    4. Rethinking the severity of issues

Experiencing guilt or asking, “Why do I feel guilty about divorcing my husband?”, or struggling with remorseful thoughts like, “Leaving my wife was a mistake” can be a result of societal pressure and personal expectations ingrained in us about marriage and its longevity.

Shazia says, “The societal expectations of being single again can make a person introspect and reassess the severity of issues because of which the marriage ended. There can be a lingering sense that the difference and disagreements weren’t irreconcilable after all.”

    5. Desire for reconciliation

The clearest sign of regret is a desire to reconcile with an ex-spouse, irrespective of what led to the divorce. For instance, a person who fell in love with someone else and left their spouse for their affair partner may also regret divorce after infidelity.

They may start comparing their affair partner to their ex-spouse, which may lead them to think, “I left my husband for my lover and regret it” or “I should never have left my wife for another woman.” Likewise, comparing other relationships or new partners to an ex-spouse can also indicate that the person is not over their previous marriage, signaling divorce regret.

How to Deal with Divorce Regret – 7 Expert Tips

A longing for the past, a desire to go back to the happy phase of the relationship is a recurring theme in most divorce regret stories. As Reddit user, IN8765353, says, “I miss being married, I miss home, frankly, I miss having a man around to help me with sh*t (shoveling snow, installing and hanging things, figuring out technology, and handling the pet care). I miss having someone to cook for and eat with. I miss having someone that really knows me. I do miss my husband a lot even in real time but I desperately miss the way things used to be, when marriage was happy and easy and effortless and loving.”

There is no doubt that moving on after divorce is a profound emotional challenge that requires compassion and care. Given how rare divorce reconciliation stories are, once you’ve crossed that bridge, it’s in your best interest to stop looking at the rearview mirror of life, and instead, focus on finding a way forward. Here are some expert-recommended strategies to help you do just that and deal with divorce regret:

    1. Work toward acceptance

When a relationship ends, it brings in its wake all sorts of complex emotions, including pangs of regret and remorse. What’s vital is to not push these feelings away or let them scare you into thinking you didn’t try hard enough or that you should have given your marriage a second chance. It’s okay to admit regret. “Acceptance is the first step toward healing and moving forward into a new life. Divorce is never easy. Try not to give it an ugly turn. Understand that the relationship was not meant to last forever.”

it’s crucial to remember that many people find strength in these challenging times, and statistics on life regrets often overlook the growth and resilience borne from adversity. In fact, some attest that “divorce was the best thing that ever happened to me”, emphasizing their journey of self-discovery and happiness post-separation.

Happiness after divorce statistics show that 67% of women and 59% of men are happier 2 years after the divorce. So, are people happier after divorce? While there is no one concrete answer to this question, the trend indicates that the road may be rough initially but a brighter horizon often lies ahead.

    2. Redefine your perspective

    • “Will my ex-wife ever regret divorce and come back to me?”
    • “Will my ex-husband ever want to reconcile?”
    • “Do ex-spouses miss each other?”

If such questions are swarming your mind, it’s a sign that you look at your divorce as a testament to the fact that you failed at marriage. It is this perspective that you need to change to be able to shake off the regret. View the divorce and your failed relationship as a learning experience instead.

“The process of dealing with regret starts with normalizing separation or divorce. Work toward wholeheartedly owning the fact that it’s absolutely OK if the relationship did not work,” advises Shazia.

    3. Seek professional support

Whether you’re consumed by the thoughts of reconnecting with him or winning her back after divorce, or wondering, “Will I be alone forever after divorce?”, it’s a sign that you need to proactively take control of your healing. To navigate the emotions surrounding the end of a marriage and move away from thoughts like, “Do women regret divorce? Will my ex-wife regret it too? Will she come back?” or “Does my ex-husband miss me? Would he want to get back together?”, you need to engage in therapy or counseling.

Divorce regret psychology affirms the immense value of professional aid in navigating this difficult period. “To cope, heal, and move on in life, you need to be able to see that nothing is the end of the world and consider your divorce as a new beginning. A trained and experienced mental health professional can help you get to the realization organically,” says Shazia.

If you’re dealing with feelings to regret after divorce and are considering getting help, skilled and licensed counselors on Bonobology’s panel are here for you.

    4. Invest in self-improvement

Divorce can offer an unexpected opportunity for personal growth. “To be able to make the most of it and look for a silver lining in what can see a very dark cloud, you need to prioritize self-care. Tending to your basic physical and emotional needs plays an important role in your recovery,” advises Shazia.

Whether you’re dealing with divorce regrets midlife crisis or just generally second-guessing your decision, focusing on yourself can help you re-focus on why you chose to walk out of your marriage. Here are some ways you can work on your growth so that your identity isn’t tied to the fact that you got divorced:

    • Take up new hobbies
    • Hone a skill
    • Take care of physical health by eating healthy and exercising regularly
    • Practice journaling and mindfulness for better emotional health

    5. Practice self-forgiveness

Harboring guilt after divorce is not uncommon, but it’s important to remember that mistakes and flaws make us human. You may have played a role in the relationship going downhill, so must have your ex-spouse but it is vital to not keep replaying those actions in your mind, wondering whether things would have panned out differently had you done this or not done that.

“To deal with the feelings of regret, you need to steer clear of the blame game. Don’t put the entire onus of the marriage not working out on anyone, including yourself. Forgiving yourself fosters healing and can be key to moving on after a divorce,” says Shazia.

    6. Surround yourself with love and support

Divorce is undoubtedly one of life’s toughest experiences; you need emotional stability and a sense of feeling grounded to get through it without it taking a toll on your mental and physical health. Your loved ones can provide you with that stability and sense of belonging. So, lean on them for support.

    • Spend time with your family
    • Reach out to your closest friends and vent your heart out
    • Don’t hesitate to ask for logistical help when you need it

    7. Weigh your options before considering reconciliation

Do women regret divorce enough to want to revive their marriage? Do men hope for reconciliation post-divorce? The answer to both these questions can be yes if the regret is overwhelming and a person is convinced that they pulled the plug on their marriage prematurely. However, just as the decision to divorce must not be made hastily, the decision to reconcile shouldn’t be made lightly either.

If regret leads to thoughts of reconciliation, first and foremost, seek legal advice about what the implication of such a decision can be and whether or not it’d be the right fit for you. Should you decide to go down this road, make sure you,

    • Go ahead with it only if there is no bitterness or resentment toward your ex
    • Discuss expectations and boundaries clearly with your former spouse
    • Take it slow, and don’t jump in with both feet
    • Treat it as a new relationship after divorce, taking things one step at a time
    • Seek professional help to break unhealthy patterns of the past

    Key Pointers

    • Regret after divorce is common and may make you second-guess your decision
    • To move on from regret and leave the past behind, strategies such as marriage counseling, focusing on self-improvement, and building a support network can be of immense help
    • As you work toward a new life, remember to view the end of the relationship as a phase rather than a finality
    • The healing journey from “how to move on after separation from husband” to “get over divorce” is a testament to human resilience and the capacity for renewal

While it’s normal to worry about regrets amid a midlife crisis or feel bad about a first marriage ending, the prospect of moving forward toward a healthier, happier life remains a constant possibility. Through the rough patches, remember that many couples have navigated these waters and come out stronger. The path may seem steep, but the climb can be worth it.

11 Secrets To Sustaining Long-Distance Love

    [ad_1]

As the saying goes, love is simple but relationships are complicated. Statistics say most modern couples spend some time or other apart. Whatever the reason may be, if you need to move away from each other but you are not ready to move on from each other, then you end up in a long-distance relationship, which comes with its share of issues and challenges. During this time, you need to figure out the secrets to sustaining long-distance love despite the hurdles.

In this age of communication, there are a variety of tools that can help partners stay and feel connected and make long-distance relationships work. But it is not the tools that matter as much as the intent. Many war-torn couples made their long-distance relationship work under such duress even without the means of instant communication and virtual connection. Like Napoleon and Josephine, where he wrote love letters for her long-distance, straight from the battlefield.

This gives us hope that you can find a way to make things work as long as you know how to express your love in long-distance relationships. So proudly go ahead on this adventure, holding hands and working toward your long-term plans.

5 Biggest Challenges Of Long-Distance Love

A relationship turns long distance only with mutual consent. People often choose to stay together, sacrificing or compromising on many other aspects of life, just to share the same sky and the same air. That is how hard choosing physical distance can be. But there are times when reasons beyond your control force you to stay apart.

Even if you both agree that being apart for your individual growth and progress is the right call, navigating the changed dynamics of your relationship can be hard. In long-distance love, as the name suggests, physical distance becomes the main concern. Long-distance couples face a lot of challenges that threaten to tear them apart.

For more expert-backed insights, please subscribe to our Youtube Channel.

You may even find yourself thinking, “I love him but I can’t do long-distance” or “I love her but this relationship isn’t working for me”. It might feel like you won’t survive not being able to be in each other’s arms. It’s usually because of one or more of these five biggest challenges of long-distance relationships. See if you can relate to any of them:

    1. Time lost in communication

It is said that no one is ever actually busy, they just have other priorities. In a long-distance relationship, when you both have separate routines, it becomes difficult to be part of each other’s daily lives. This becomes especially troublesome when you are in different time zones.

Staying connected is important but so is coping with all other changes happening due to the separation. As they say in airplane safety guidelines, put on your own mask before helping others. Maybe you are focusing on writing long love letters for him long-distance or designing personalized jewelry for her when you need to rather focus on yourself.

Spending time together is essential but prioritizing your needs is essential too. Striking a balance between these two can be one of the biggest challenges of long-distance love in modern times, although it can be dealt with if both partners are willing to make the extra effort.

    2. Physical distance begets longing

It is not always about sex or intimacy. You start to miss your partner’s warmth and smell when you don’t share the same air anymore. You want to reach out and hold their hands, run your fingers through their hair, touch their cheeks when sunlight falls on them but you can’t. Sometimes, all you want, after a hard day’s work, is to hug them.

And it becomes frustrating when you have to grapple with this sense of longing daily for months, without any relief in sight. Strong emotional connection and communication may help you ease the pain. Remember this is just temporary, a blip in the forever that you are building together.

    3. Loneliness is a personal battle

When you were physically together, you’d make an effort to spend as much time with each other as possible. You did so many things together. Even if you went to meet your friends or family, chances are, you went together. But now you have to do everything on your own. Maybe you have family or friends around but they can never fill the partner-sized hole in your life.

This lingering sense of loneliness can bring on a sense of dejection. There may even be times when you feel that breaking up is easier than sustaining your long-distance relationship. At least, you get to be angry with your ex. Missing someone and remembering them fondly is a different level of torture if you are feeling all alone in your heart. You can never express well enough how much you miss them with every breath you take. The lonelier you feel, the more distant and secluded you become in this vicious cycle.

    4. Feeling disconnected is valid

Not everyone processes emotion in the same way. Being separated from your partner can cause a lot of emotional turmoil. People react differently in these situations. While some may suffer silently, others may not stop complaining. While some choose to bury themselves in work, others may look for distraction by going out and partying. You may not be on the same page going through the sadness and turmoil that come with being apart.

Some may be somber while accepting the inevitable, while others may be cheerful in their complete denial. This discrepancy of feelings may lead to unnecessary confrontation and problems in the relationship. Remember that you both are different and allow each other to heal in your own ways.

    5. Jealousy is a green-eyed monster

Jealousy is not a sign of love, it is a sign of your deep-rooted insecurities and your refusal to confront them. It is easier to project your insecurities onto your partner, especially when they are not present to defend themselves. A missed call, an unanswered text, or a canceled video call may send you spiraling down the road of overthinking and resentment.

Somehow you start to think and believe that the thing you fear most has already happened. What you fear most may tell you a lot about yourself rather than your partner. It is not just the possibility of other romantic connections that you are jealous of. Not being able to be a part of their special moments, them enjoying something without you, all these things set you off on a journey to darkness, called jealousy.

Remember to be happy for each other despite yourself and allow them the space to grow. These challenges may seem like the mountains you can’t travel or the ocean you can’t cross, but life is bigger than this. These are just small hurdles in a long-term partnership. If your communication is strong enough and you can feel connected despite all these things, then better days are just ahead of you.

11 Secrets To Sustaining Long-Distance Love

True love will win all. True. But it doesn’t hurt to keep a few tricks up your sleeves when you are about to face a tough patch in your relationship. Maybe you are discussing trying out a long-distance love in your relationship or you finally found the one online and never met in person.

People meeting online and finding their happily-ever-after with each other, and going on to build long-term relationships and even successful marriages is not unheard of. Some couples spend years getting to know each other through correspondence and video chatting before ever meeting. Many a long-distance love of this kind has led to enduring relationships.

In either situation, it’s vital to make a conscious effort toward improving your communication, work on your emotional bonding and make the right effort to remain connected with your long-distance partner. The heart grows fonder when you are apart if you are on the same page about the level of your commitment toward your long-term plans. Here are some ways to make even this difficult time in your relationship less daunting:

    1. Start preparing even before you part

It is important to prepare for the impending time apart before you leave each other’s side. From the time you decide to be physically apart and yet be in a relationship, you take on a heavy task. You can:

    • Try to make this transition as smooth and fun as possible
    • Help each other in preparations
    • Spend quality time together
    • Most of all, talk – about your fears, insecurities, and your plans to make the relationship work

Find out whether you both are on the same page about this move. Give each other something special and personal, to remember each other by. It can be a piece of clothing or your favorite soft toy or the book that cheers you up every time. It is like sharing a piece of you with the one who knows perfectly well how much that means to you. This way, even before you part, you have made sure that they have something to carry in their hands while they carry you in their hearts.

    2. Surprise gifts are always a good idea

Whether you met online or parted ways after being together, a big part of making such a relationship work is looking for ways to bring a smile to your partner’s face. And what better way of doing that than a surprise gift? A thoughtful, personalized gift lets your partner know that you really listen to them and make an effort to help them get what they want or need.

And these gifts don’t always have to be extravagant. It can also be a handwritten love letter for her long-distance or a handmade gift for him. So, give it some thought and come up with something they have been desiring for some time – and you’d have a perfect gift, worthy of your partner. After all, it’s the thought that counts.

    3. Share your personal calendars

Life changed for both of you, whether you moved away or stayed back after your partner left, or met and fell in love with someone halfway across the world. It can be hard to cope with long-distance love and all these changes. One of the best ways to cope with this change is to make your partner a part of your everyday life, even if virtually.

You can do that by sharing an online calendar to keep track of your online dates and calls. This way you both are reminded about your virtual dates and never miss out on spending special moments together. You can also keep track of and remind each other of important appointments, events, meetings, and other items on your respective to-do lists – just like you would in a geographically proximate relationship.

    4. Challenge each other

Pick any activity. Be it swimming or salsa, cooking or hiking: something you both enjoy or have always wanted to try together. Now try your hand at it even when you are miles apart. Don’t just do it, but also challenge each other.

    • Keep track of each other’s progress
    • Encourage one another
    • Share progress reports like step count
    • Create a social media celebration
    • Set prizes for accomplishments

Relationship experts often encourage healthy competition among couples as a way of keeping the romance alive. Just because you are apart, it does not mean that you need to give up on doing things together in a long-distance relationship. Your shared experience will make the distance between you negligible when the adrenaline is running high and you are locked in a friendly battle just for fun.

    5. Honesty is always the right choice

Though honesty is the pillar of any healthy relationship, it becomes even more important in long-distance relationships. It fosters a sense of intimacy in long-distance relationships and helps assuage doubts and insecurities. You sometimes may compromise your own time and mental health to be there for your partner but remember, it is not sustainable in the long term.

Instead of sacrificing yourself at the altar of your relationship, focus your energies on strengthening the foundation of connection by nurturing it with honesty and transparency. And you won’t have to worry about how to build trust or how to express love in long-distance relationships.

    6. Choose text over phone calls for constant communication

Given the busy schedules and rigmarole of everyday life, it is sometimes impossible to make yourself available for long phone calls. But the need to share something immediately may arise at any time. It is better to pour your heart out in a text or a voice note – look at these as modern-day equivalents of writing love letters to him long-distance, or a love poem for her.

These are great ways to stay in touch with each other throughout the day because you don’t need to work out schedules and check availability. You can send texts or voice notes in your time and your partner will be able to respond in their own time. The communication, then, would be qualitatively worthy.

    7. Don’t put your life on hold

Kahlil Gibran said, “Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.” Though you are in love, remember that you have a separate life of your own too. Other than maintaining this beautiful emotional bonding with your partner, you need to enrich your life too. If you put your life on hold for the sake of your relationship, it will only lead to resentment – and resentment in relationships is a termite that can render even the strongest of bonds hollow. Only if you have an interesting and full life can you remain happy and fulfilled in long-distance love.

    8. Change habits that make you feel more lonely

Things that you cherished together and did enjoy with each other can make you feel lonely and sad when you’re physically apart from your partner. Maybe it is time to change those habits. If cooking together was your way of spending quality time together, maybe consider ordering in on weekends to change things up a bit. If reading books together was your favorite shared activity, maybe shift to audiobooks for now. You can pick up these activities from where you left off once you are back together.

    9. Make all major decisions together as a couple

It is important to stay connected even when you are in a long-distance relationship. Your long-term plans are connected, so involve your partner in those life-altering decisions. If a promotion means another year apart or a change of job means moving back together, you both need to weigh in and respect each other’s input.

    10. Make time for sexual intimacy

Geographical distance should never come between sexual intimacy in the relationship. Unfulfilled sexual needs can be one of the key reasons why you may end up feeling, “I love him but I can’t do long-distance” or “I love her but the spark is gone”.

But how to express love in long-distance relationships? From giving each other a visual treat on video calls or sexting, there are myriad ways to keep the flame of passion burning. And it doesn’t have to be a hardcore sexual activity or even sharing nudes if you’re not comfortable with it. You can share a picture of lingerie and ask your partner to imagine you in that. Let your guard down and go where your imagination and fantasies lead you.

    11. Don’t worry about being perfect

When you finally get a chance to meet, however short the meeting might be, remember that this time together is special. Make the most of it. Don’t fixate on everything being perfect. Factors beyond your control such as a delayed flight or inclement weather, or even exhaustion from a long journey, can derail some of your plans. But don’t let that ruin your time together. Even if you just Netflix and chill, doing it together should give you enough thrill.

    Key Pointers

    • Long-distance relationships are hard and you have to brace for challenges such as loneliness, longing, jealousy, trust issues
    • A strong foundation, mutual consent, and focus on long-term plans can help you tide over this phase
    • Communication is the key to not letting the hurdles in your way turn into mountains you can’t cross
    • Physical distance does not mean the end of physical intimacy, make a conscious effort to keep the spark alive
    • Long-distance relationship work, so get ready for this new adventure

Long-distance love can also add new dimensions to your relationship and intensify your desire for each other. Once you have finally found the one, a little distance is not going to change your feelings for the love of your life. What’s a bit of time in the forevermore? This too shall pass.

Invalidating Feelings? Try a Stress-reducing Conversation! – Couples retreats and Online Couples Therapy

    [ad_1]

Gottman stress-reducing conversations are communication techniques developed by Drs. John Gottman and Julie Gottman. The technique helps couples effectively manage and reduce stress in their relationships.

But it does more. For the partner accused of invalidating feelings, it offers strategies to create a more validating and supportive environment.

It can also highlight forms of emotional abuse that invalidate self-esteem and destroy emotional intimacy. is a communication technique developed by Drs. John Gottman and Julie Gottman. The technique helps couples effectively manage and reduce stress in their relationship.

Do you find that you feel bad when talking to your partner as if your feelings don’t matter to them? The Stress Reducing Conversation is a critical communication tool to improve emotional validation and increase feeling safe. It can also highlight forms of emotional abuse that invalidate a person’s self-esteem and destroy emotional intimacy.

What does it mean to invalidate a person’s expression?

Feelings are invalidated when they are deemed worthless, valid, or unimportant. Is a form of manipulation and communicates “I don’t care about your emotional experiences.”

Dismissing, criticizing, minimizing, judging, blaming, ignoring or gaslighting are all forms of invalidation.

How the Stress-Reducing Conversation is done:

    1. Set aside time at least 5 days a week for a 15-20 minute conversation about your day. Don’t talk about relationship stressors. This is a time to focus on issues outside of your interactions.
    2. Take turns talking about your life, work, and day. As you speak, keep the conversation focused on your own life and the characters in it.
    3. As you listen to your partner, focus on validating their thoughts, emotional responses, reactions, or stressors. This is their time. Your job is to learn about them and support them like a friend. Take their side.
    4. Don’t try to problem-solve. That’s not necessary to do in this exercise.

Here are some types of emotional invalidation statements to avoid:

    Dismissing

Here you completely disregarding or brushing aside what your partner is talking about. You communicate that their feelings are insignificant or unnecessary.

    • “You need to get past that.”
    • “This is nonsense.”
    • “It can’t be that serious.”
    • I’m sure she didn’t mean it.”

    Criticizing or showing contempt

    • “This is really getting old.”
    • “That is ridiculous.”
    • “That’s crazy. talk.”

    Minimizing

You downplay or diminish the emotional intensity or significance of what they are saying. You act as if their feelings are less serious or less serious than they tell you that they are.

    • “It’s not that bad. It could be worse.”
    • “I’m sure that’s not what they meant.”
    • “I’m sure they don’t think that.”

    Judging

Instead of empathizing, you meet their emotions with judgment or criticism. You might call their thoughts irrational, unnecessary, or wrong.

    • “It’s time to move on.”
    • “You’re making a big deal out of nothing.”
    • “That’s not (or they’re not) worth getting upset about.”

    Blaming

You put their feelings on trial. The implication is that they should not feel the way they do. The implication is that their reactions are their own fault, or they are overreacting.

    • “Stop taking everything so personally.”
    • “You were late, so it really was your fault.”
    • “You should be ashamed of yourself for feeling that way.”

    Ignoring

You don’t effectively communicate interest. Instead of normal nods, and vocalizations, you are silent and still. This implies you are indifferent to their attempts to express their feelings. They feel invisible and unimportant to you.

You changing the subject while your partner is speaking.

    Gaslighting

You undermine their perception of reality or emotions. You leave them questioning their own feelings and experiences.

    • “You’re imagining things.”
    • “That never happened.”
    • “You are the only one who feels that way.”

    Emotionally validating statements

In contrast, emotionally validating statements acknowledge, respect, and validate someone’s feelings. They show understanding, empathy, and support for emotions.

    Here are some examples:

    • “I can see that makes you sad/angry/frustrated/confused/upset.”
    • “Your feelings are important to me, and I want to understand.”
    • “It’s completely understandable to feel the way you do.”
    • “I hear you. I want you to know that your emotions matter to me.”
    • “I’m here for you.”
    • “It’s okay to feel [emotion].”
    • “I’d feel the same way if it were me.”
    • “You’re not alone in this. I’m here to listen and be there for you.”
    • “Your feelings make sense given what you’re struggling with.”
    • “Thank you for telling me about this. It helps me understand you better.”

The listener doesn’t have to solve the problem. They simply need to be present, pay attention, and try to understand and empathize. Demonstrating that you hear, respect, and acknowledge your partner’s feelings is enough. It enhances trust, strengthens the relationship, and promotes open communication.

People learn how to validate feelings at a young age. When a person isn’t validated as a child, these problematic negative patterns become ingrained habits. However, these communication patterns can and should be broken.

When these interactions are attempts to manipulate, control, and dominate, it is time to pay attention. Notice if you use your partner’s opening up against them in a later argument. That’s destructive. Other spouses complain that they have no interest in listening to their partner, even for 5-10 minutes a day. This is a very bad sign.

Daily stress-reducing conversations can be tried first, before couples therapy. The goal is to provide an opportunity to practice supportive and encouraging talks. This practice enhances intimacy and can help couples break unintentional bad habits of invalidating emotions.
