    Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 4070 desktop graphics card, and it hit shelves the very next day on Thursday, April 13 (Our pals at The Verge already have a full review.) As for where you can purchase it, Best Buy, Newegg, Micro Center, and Antonline will have you covered.

    Best Buy is currently the only retailer that will sell Nvidia’s sleek $599.99 Founders Edition RTX 4070. But otherwise, what each store offers is pretty similar — and exhaustive. Newegg will have a whopping 15 unique RTX 4070 models available. We’re not going to list all of them, just a handful that come the closest to the GPU’s base asking price.

    One last thing to keep in mind is that if you opt for a dual-fan GPU, or one with a triple-fan arrangement, you’ll want to measure that to make sure your PC case has the volume to accommodate it.

    PlayStation Plus gets a dose of colorful 3D-platforming fun this month in the form of Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

    Originally released in 2020 and created by Sumo Digital, the UK-based developer tapped into its previous experiences across platformer and multiplayer genres (LittleBigPlanet 3, Team Sonic Racing) to craft a captivating yarn. Levels are imaginative and reward exploration, and occasionally stray into musically-led stages backed by pop hits. Collectibles are many and worth discovering – offering secret pathways and increasingly dazzling costumes to deck out your character. Co-op (up to four players local or online) is joyful in its continuous tandem of cooperative and competitive.

    To mark its launch on PlayStation Plus, we talked about the game’s origins with XDEV Producer Mark O’Connor. O’Connor shares some early concept sketches and gives his insights into how the core gameplay pillars came to be.

    A highly interactive 3D world

    “The concept for Sackboy: A Big Adventure started way back in 2017. The original pitch was simple (to say the least): Sackboy: A Big Adventure at its heart was to be a brand-new platforming experience set in Sackboy’s familiar home of Craftworld; complete levels, battle bosses and save the world!

    “We wanted to reimagine the LittleBigPlanet franchise within a vibrant, (and for the very first time) fully 3D environment, that had that familiar feel of physicality woven into the game’s DNA. Everything is physical, from the gameplay, to the world, through to the UI and beyond.  Advanced real-time physical behaviors create a highly interactive 3D world: cloth stretches and tears, sponges squash and absorb, balloons inflate and burst, fluids ebb and flow.

    Levels tailored for both solo and multiplayer…

    “The LittleBigPlanet titles were always designed as games that could be played solo or co-op and this is something that we didn’t want to change for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. It was always important to us that Sackboy’s very first 3D platforming adventure could still be played solo or with family and friends, with every player still being able to create and control their very own Sackperson.

    “So, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was built from the ground up as a four-player co-op adventure with fun, physical character interactions that give players loads of ways to cooperate (and target each other). We wanted to encourage players to join forces to push, pull, slap and roll into objects (and each other).

    “One great example of this is being able to stack Sackboys and Sackgirls to create a precarious “Sack Totem” and get to hard-to-reach places. These different ways to play make the game truly co-op. Players now have more meaningful interactions and are no longer just running through the same level side-by-side.

    “Players of all abilities can join in the fun! Simple catch-up mechanics make sure that no one gets left behind. If one player can navigate an obstacle, then everyone can!”

    “Players of all skill levels can enjoy the adventure together, as we wanted the co-op and competitive mechanics to create a rich social experience.

    “Playful interactions and scoring mechanics introduce loads of opportunities for friendly competition. Trigger a flash event and be the first to grab the shower of prize bubbles. Slap their hard-earned Collectabells currency out of your friend’s pockets. Score the highest on a level to earn bragging rights and the winner’s trophy at the end of the level.

    “We decided early on that we wanted to showcase the character customisation options that allow the player to express themselves and make their Sackperson their own… So what better way than adding a photo finish at the end of the level? This way you can bask in the glory and focus on what pose you want to display.

    “Besides, have you really played a Sackboy game… if you have never slapped or thrown your friends off of some high platform? We know that you all do it!”

    High-level play with rewards for exploration

    “We wanted a level of difficulty which is welcoming to new players and scales as you progress and gain experience.

    Having desirable unlockables and rewards encourages you to keep on playing. Some are on the general gameplay path, but others you must seek out, which means there are always new areas to explore and new experiences to enjoy with Sackboy and your friends.

    “These are all brought together within a rich narrative that provides a sense of purpose and gives context to the gameplay.”

    Music-themed levels

    “The franchise has a history of using music in creative ways and we wanted to make sure that a range of music from upcoming, leftfield and world music artists soundtracked the many worlds in Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

    “However, massive internationally-known pop hits had never really featured before – the challenge was what could we do with these well-known songs that would bring surprise and delight to the players. The answer was to design the levels around the songs – something the team at Sumo did brilliantly.

    “There were some design considerations – the songs had to ideally run at a set tempo and have contained sections (verse, chorus, bridge etc). We would also look at where each level was set, to see if there might be some appropriate lyrical or thematic content – ‘Jungle Boogie’ in the jungle just made a whole lot of sense!

    “Ultimately, the designers went to town synchronising the track to events in these levels. Every stage in Sackboy has a different approach to music design, with each track developing over the course of the level. For us, every level is a music level but these stand out as a wonderfully harmonious example.

    “Check out the soundtrack and licensed playlist to put a swing in your step once you’ve played the game!”

    The latest in the Amnesia series is Amnesia: The Bunker, which was due to launch on May 16. In a turn of events, developer Frictional Games has delayed the WWI horror game by a week, to May 23.

    In an update shared to Frictional Games’ Twitter, the developer has detailed that it needs a little more time to perfect the game. “We’re pushing the release of Amnesia: The Bunker back by one week, and it will now be coming out May 23 instead,” the tweet reads.

    “This will give us a little more time to polish the game and make sure everything is perfect before launch. We appreciate your patience and hope you are looking forward to playing Amnesia: The Bunker. It will be worth the wait!”

    Frictional Games has rarely missed the mark when it comes to creating immersive and unsettling horror games. It gave us SOMA, a whole host of Amnesia titles, and the Penumbra Collection. Admittedly, more recent Amnesia titles have felt a little lacking — maybe I’m jaded by nostalgia — but Amnesia: The Bunker looks to bring Amnesia back to a terrifying form.

    Amnesia: The Bunker is a first-person horror title set in — you guessed it — a desolate WWI bunker. Playing as a French soldier, you’re haunted by an omnipresent threat that stalks your every move. You must keep going, gathering resources and trying to keep the lights on as you try to stay both sane and alive.

    In a semi-open world, Amnesia: The Bunker looks incredibly promising, inviting horror fans into a new setting while utilising a new time-based mechanic that replaces the sanity mechanic that Amnesia once popularised. I certainly look forward to giving it a go, but what do you think?

    Amnesia: The Bunker will become available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam and Epic) on May 23.

    Lifeweaver has been available to players of Overwatch 2 for two days thus far, having debuted with the Season 4 content update. Arriving as the ninth Support Hero on the roster, Lifeweaver gives Support mains a new way to play the game with the unique utility of his kit and playmaking potential, which sets him apart from any other Support Hero.

    Despite Lifeweaver’s impressive set of abilities, not every player in the game has had the best experience when it comes to learning his controls and how to play him. Console players and controller users, in particular, have been having issues smoothly switching between Lifeweaver’s two primary fires and controlling the movement of his Rejuvenating Dash.

    Popular Overwatch streamer, HoshizoraOW has opened up the conversation for this on Twitter, with many gamers complaining that playing Lifeweaver on a controller has been causing pain in their hands and fingers, which is less than ideal.

    Thankfully, controller users and console players won’t have to suffer in pain for much longer. The Overwatch devs have announced that they are looking to implement alternate control methods for Lifeweaver’s Dash and weapon swapping to help smooth out these actions. Here’s the official post from Aaron Keller, who states that additional timing and details will be revealed soon. Here’s hoping it’s sooner rather than later.

    The city-building genre is absolutely having a moment right now, whether at the big end of the market (Cities Skylines 2) or, more popularly, the smaller end (just look at Steam’s sales charts on any day of the week). Sliding effortlessly into this latter category is Terrascape, one of my favourite examples of the genre in years.

    Terrascape is a game set on a hex-based world, where you’re asked to place medieval-era buildings on the most optimal piece of land possible. For buildings that harvest resources, like woodcutters or hunter’s lodges, that means getting them as close to as many trees or wild animals as possible, and for more advanced structures that means placing them next to other buildings. The more optimal your position, based on the number of resources and adjacent structures, the bigger the score you get.

    You don’t just get to build anything though, this is a very board game-like experience where you have to choose from decks based on major categories (fishing, village, farming, etc) and then are given a hand of cards, each card able to be played to drop a building on the map. Beginning with just a handful, over the course of a game you’ll unlock more cards for a deck, then more decks with new buildings.

    If this is starting to sound familiar, that’s because it is. Dorfromantik did a lot of this. As did Islanders. I loved both of those games, and I love Terrascape for the same reasons, because it takes the essence of a city-builder, breaks it down into the simplest means of implementing it possible, then makes the whole thing incredibly relaxing.

    There are objectives, whether you’re playing the game’s specific challenge maps (which gives you city-building optimisation puzzles to complete) or its more enjoyable sandbox mode (which just lets you loose and gives you bonus objectives to score points on), but they never feel rushed. It’s beautiful to look at, there are no time limits and the whole thing is just incredibly chill to be around, as you drop a little farm here, and oh look, a town square there, isn’t that lovely.

    The way each hex’s art bleeds into the next, and the little pop every time you place a building makes the whole experience hugely satisfying. I’ve spent the last week firing this up whenever I’ve had some downtime and, rather than trying to complete any goals or objectives, have just scrolled around the map painting a town into being, like a 14th-century Bob Ross. Bobbe Rosse.

    If spending your entire time in a zen-like state doesn’t appeal, though, you can still game this thing if you want (and will need to to complete some of the tougher/bigger maps). The game’s scoring system stacks, rather than remaining consistent, so if you drop a hunter’s lodge early on and score a ton of points from the nearby wildlife, you don’t lose those points if you later build a medieval village on top of it all. This makes every map a fascinating exercise in forward-planning, as you start out thinking about trees and fish and deer, before advancing through the decks and having to shift gear and start thinking about large manor houses and taverns instead.

    Long gone are the days of Rare-developed Nintendo exclusives, but founder Tim Stamper still has pieces of gaming history from the studio’s early years. In a few short video clips, Stamper revealed development footage from Project Dream, along with other snippets from N64 classics.

    Stamper has taken to Twitter to showcase development cartridges from the past, posting footage from unseen N64 titles – kind of. The clips include canceled projects or games that would live on through other iterations, like Dream 64 and Twelve Tales: Conker 64.

    In the series of posts, Stamper shared a photo tagged as Dream 64 and Banjo-Kazooie featuring Captain Blackeye, a pirate who would later show up in the Banjo games. The image includes a SNES and N64, with the latter holding a development cartridge labeled “Latest Version of Dream 64” dated November 21, 1996.

    “So it’s true,” Stamper wrote. “Dream 64 does exist after all…!”

    The Rare Founder also added a 15-second peak at Dream, which he noted “was probably for the Nintendo Shoshinkai show [in] 1996”. It again includes Captain Blackeye, whose voiced lines harken back to Stamper’s earlier tweet with “so it’s true then, the Nintendo 64 treasure does exist after all.”

    In 1997, Rare’s codename Dream game was officially revealed as Banjo-Kazooie at E3. Studio talent has spoken publicly about their time with Dream, and eventually Banjo-Kazooie, over the years. In 2015, the studio even documented the retooled Dream on YouTube, which featured a young boy named Edson in a more RPG-like adventure.

    Stamper’s other footage includes an intro snippet of Twelve Tales: Conker 64, which debuted alongside Banjo at the same E3 in Atlanta. Twelve Tales would go down as another canceled project, and Rare’s fiery squirrel would see his first N64 release as Conker’s Bad Fur Day instead. Stamper’s clip shows off another development cartridge and a 48-second sequence of Conker and acorn-like enemies.

    There’s a brief look at Battletoads character design documents, too. Another video from Stamper shows him thumbing through the “character design guide” for the beat’em series.

    While the Battletoads art and descriptions are a cool little tidbit, the stuff lurking in the background seems just as neat. When Stamper’s video begins, you can see a room filled with binders, presumably all related to his gaming projects. Tim, along with his brother Chris Stamper, remained with Rare until 2007, so there’s no telling what treasures have amassed in that archive.

    Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is live, and DMZ’s big update includes plenty of new features you’ll want to try, including more ways to safely exfil from your match. Here is everything you need to know about Season 3’s new exfil options with the heavy chopper.

    How to get the heavy chopper extraction

    DMZ’s heavy chopper

    Surviving a match of DMZ and keeping all your loot requires you to exfil from the map. You can still take the standard exfil, the map’s final exfil chopper, or use a Hostage contract to extract, but now you can use one of Season 3’s new heavy choppers to make a slightly stealthier escape. Here are the two ways you can use them.

    Buy a heavy chopper extraction

    Getting a private exfil is expensive, but if you have enough cash or can pool it with your teammates, you can exit the match via a heavy chopper. It’s a $50,000 purchase at a Buy Station, which will trigger the chopper to land at an exfil point that is inactive for other players in your match.

    Of course, just because they can’t hijack your ride doesn’t mean you can’t die. This area won’t make you invulnerable if enemies happen to be nearby, but there’s a lot less heat with this paid extraction than you’ll get with a public exfil location.

    Fuel up a heavy chopper

    If you can’t afford the $50,000 price tag, another option for using a heavy chopper exfil is to use the stationary one located on your tac-map. This chopper is found at Al Mazrah’s Hafid Port, and it’s not flying anywhere until someone fuels it up.

    You can’t use the regular gas cans used to fuel DMZ’s other vehicles. You’ll need to scavenge the required Heavy Chopper Fuel. This fuel is most commonly found near Al Mazrah’s airport, so check inside buildings and garages around the airport.

    It can also sometimes be found on the cargo train that circles the map. This train is often a highly-contested location in DMZ, and the airport has tons of AI to battle through. Both places offer a different risk, so just pick which area is more convenient for you.

    Locate a can of Heavy Chopper Fuel and bring it back to the chopper to be able to pilot the aircraft. Flying the chopper out of bounds will automatically trigger your exfil from the match.

    Spy stories have all the ingredients necessary for excellent television: There’s tension, double-crossing, and the opportunity for lots and lots of wigs. In The Sympathizer, most of them are worn by Robert Downey, Jr.

    Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, The Sympathizer looks like our next big spy obsession. It’s a landmark adaptation of an acclaimed Vietnamese work, and it marks Park Chan-wook’s return to television five years after his excellent 2018 AMC miniseries The Little Drummer Girl. (And a year after releasing one of 2022’s best films, Decision to Leave.)

    Taking a cue from its dizzying source material — which gleefully hops from genre to genre with a dizzyingly recursive narrative about an anonymous North Vietnamese spy embedded in the South Vietnamese army, who expatriates to the United States for, among other things, a farcical film production — the trailer for The Sympathizer is wonderfully confounding.

    Starring Hoa Xuande as the protagonist (dubbed “The Captain”), the trailer gives us a glimpse of The Captain’s Catch-22-esque journey in espionage, where he seems to encounter multiple characters, all played by Robert Downey, Jr. circa the Vietnam War.

    From the footage shown, The Sympathizer appears to be both a worthy adaptation of a rich novel and another exhibition for Park Chan-wook’s formidable spy-thriller chops.

    The Sympathizer premieres live on HBO and on Max streaming in 2024.

    Hey there, I’m Rho Watson, the lead developer behind Farworld Pioneers. This 2D adventure galaxy sandbox is a hybrid of many genres. More than that, though, it’s the game I’ve always wanted to make. Let me tell you why!

    As a teenager, I played Infiniminer and was one of the first people to try the online version of Minecraft. The online sandbox genre captured my imagination, but it never really achieved what I hoped it would. Once I finished building my grand projects, there was no real reason for them to exist. My gigantic bases sat there, dormant and unused, because there was no one besides me to use them. My friends would come, check it out momentarily, and inevitably go off to do their own thing.

    After many years of playing these games and being part of developing some, I decided to bite the bullet and try to do what no one else had done: make an online sandbox game with the excitement of building and creating, but with AI residents to actually give a reason for those things to exist. I wanted to give players a reason to build besides simple curiosity and showing off to often-reluctant friends!

    Farworld Pioneers represents two major parts of my life as a gamer: playing old MS-DOS (For those who don’t know, it’s how you played games before Windows!) classics as a kid and then the rise of the online sandbox genre as an adult. That’s how Farworld Pioneers was born! Like many games, this game is a cross-section of the journey my career in video games took and a tribute to the games that are responsible for it.

    But Farworld Pioneers isn’t just an online sandbox game. It’s a 2D adventure sandbox with managerial elements. Imagine an RTS where you were one of the guys running around and could help out at any time. Your residents need to be kept happy, fed, and safe, which means it matters how your base is designed. Poor design will lead to your residents becoming unhappy and leaving the base, which further compromises its functioning. Accumulating wealth will make your base a target for raiders and pirates, making defenses and tactics a must when designing a colony. Confusing supply lines will disorient your residents and disrupt supply; power sources need fuel to run; residents need food, the list goes on.

    The beauty of AI-controlled residents is that they provide a way to delegate tasks you don’t want to do. Instead of painstakingly building a giant house yourself, you can place the plans down and have your team of guys do it while you go adventuring. Tired of mining? You can drag out an area, and your guys will do it for you. What’s more, they’ll then haul off the materials to be processed so they’re ready for use. And at any time, you can join in and help them, and it won’t disrupt the process; the option’s there if you feel like it. Once you’ve achieved all the things you’d like to do on one planet, you can build a ship with your colonists and launch into space to explore and find new resources, biomes, and technology. There are bosses, secrets, a full tech tree to unlock, and many more features, including a huge multiplayer mode with up to 32 others that I don’t have time to explain here! I’m super excited for everyone to be able to play when it launches on Xbox and with Xbox Game Pass on May 30th!

    Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 12th, 2023. Luckily, my hospital visit wrapped up quicker than expected. That means I was able to cobble something together for you today. We wouldn’t want to miss one, would we? Today’s article features a little news item, a brief review, a couple of new release summaries, and the usual lists of new and outgoing sales. Let’s get to work!

    News

    ‘Pokemon Stadium’ is Now Available for Switch Online Expansion Pack

    It’s been a bit since the last addition to the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 catalog. January, to be exact. We have an interesting one this time around, but it has a big catch. Pokemon Stadium was the first chance players had to see their favorite characters in glorious 3D, and the original one was able to connect with your Game Boy cartridge to transfer your Pokemon into the game or even play the Game Boy game on your TV. This one doesn’t let you do those things, which is probably obvious if you think about it for a few seconds. That means you’re limited to using the “rental” Pokemon to play the game, and if you’ve been complaining that Pokemon games are too easy… well, have fun. You’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription to play it, naturally.

    Reviews & Mini-Views

    Forever Lost: Episode 1 ($4.99)

    Forever Lost is a three-episode adventure series from Glitch Games that kicked off around a decade ago on mobile and wrapped up a few years after that. In its time and place, it was a solid game with good visuals and clever puzzles. And considering how much time has passed, it still looks fine enough. There are a lot of games with a similar look these days, so it doesn’t stand out much in that regard. The puzzles, on the other hand, are still quite good. A lot of the usual escape room fare, but they ride the line of tricky and fair quite nicely.

    I assume the other two episodes will follow in due time, but for now we’ve got this initial one. It isn’t terribly long, but it will eat up an evening or two depending on how much trouble you have with the puzzles. You don’t have to worry about getting completely stuck, as the game has hints that will take you all the way through the end if you’re looking for help. With this just being the first episode, the story doesn’t really go anywhere substantial. Some fairly generic stuff about waking up in a mental institute with no idea who you are or how you got here.

    Normally, I’d recommend this to adventure fans as a nice low-cost brain-teaser, but the old Switch performance bugbear has reared its head again. The game is very laggy both in its controls and in some of its visual elements. I’d find myself accidentally turning things off and on again because it took so long for the graphics to update that I thought my initial press didn’t register. The credits are almost vomit inducing with how choppily they scroll. In what I could perhaps take as a final act of rebellion, the game crashed on me after the credits finished.

    I’d imagine there are some challenges in getting a game of this age running nicely on modern hardware, but as it is right now it just isn’t fun to play the game this way. Perhaps it can be patched into shape, but for now I’d recommend checking this series out on mobile instead. The puzzles are absolutely worth playing, and it’s neat to check out all the little details in each environment. But this Switch version sometimes feels like it’s fighting you with its laggy nature more than it is with its challenges, so it’s hard for me to recommend with much vigor at the moment.

    New Releases

    Wildfrost ($19.99)

    Here’s another roguelike deck builder game, and I’m afraid I haven’t put the necessary time into it yet to tell you if it does anything to stand out in what is an increasingly crowded pack. Early reviews are certainly encouraging at least, and my experience with it so far is quite positive. I’d say if you love this genre, you can feel free to take a chance on it. If you’re a bit burnt out, I can’t say that I’ve seen anything here so far to bring you back.

    Hyper-5 ($9.99)

    Mmm, I can’t say I like the look of this one. Maybe it works better in motion, but it’s hard to make out various elements in the screenshots with the art style it’s using. Well, I haven’t played it yet so don’t put too much stock in that. It’s a side-scrolling shooter with five stages, upgrades, online leaderboards, and more. I may not be sold on the practical value of the visuals, but they’re certainly no half-effort.

    Not a whole lot today so far. That makes me a little nervous, because it sometimes means a big sale is about to roll in.     If you’re a Resident Evil 4 fan or are at all following the game online, you might have noticed some goofy art over the last month involving the character Ashley looking strangely rodent-like. Turns out, it’s a fantastic and hilarious trend that caught on upon the release of Resident Evil 4’s recent remake, where fans are drawing Ashley from Resident Evil 4 as a little tiny mouse obsessed with cheese. And it rules.

    It all started with this tweet:

    The artist, @Agrimmora on Twitter, followed up by explaining that “I saw a joke drawing that depicted ashley with big ears and this came to my mind, i never got past the boulder chase scene as a kid.”

    This is pretty cute and funny, but it gets better: the Resident Evil 4 community has fallen in love with her. It’s been almost three weeks since the initial tweet, and Twitter is still awash in mouse Ashley art…or “Moushley” art, as she’s come to be called.

    Moushley has even bled into real life:

    The joke has gone so far that there’s now even a mod that lets you put Moushley on Leon’s head and control him like Remy in Ratatouille:

    The best part of all this is that even the official Resident Evil 4 Twitter account seems to have gotten in on the joke:

    Moushley is an absolute delight, and there’s seemingly no end of adorable interpretations of her as a little rodent under Leon’s protection. Bring on the Moushley memes. And if you haven’t yet experienced the recent Resident Evil 4 remake, it’s none too shabby even without Ashley sporting a notable love of cheese.     Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is live, and DMZ just received a major update with plenty of new features to check out. One of the most impactful changes is the barter feature, which lets you find recipes to barter for items you need. Here we walk you through the best recipes in Season 3 of DMZ.

    How DMZ’s barter recipes work

    Season 3’s new barter system isn’t player-to-player trading, but more of a way to swap scavenged items at a Buy Station to trade for something else you need. This bartering is done using recipes, which are component lists needed to receive the new items.

    These recipes are found at the Buy Stations around the maps, and they are set lists that can be memorized for easy bartering. Most recipes will be common across all maps, but Building 21 and Ashika Island locations each have a few of their own unique sets of barter options across its Buy Stations, but we’ll highlight the important ones here.

    DMZ’s best bartering recipes

    3-Plate stealth vest recipe

    Season 3 introduces the new 3-Plate stealth carrier, which in addition to holding three armor plates, comes built-in with the Ghost perk to help keep you off enemy radar. If you’re looking to go under the radar in your match, you’ll need to scavenge these items:

    • 2 electrical components
    • 1 comic book
    • 1 game console

    3-Plate medic vest recipe

    Season 3’s new medic vest lets you get armored up while also granting both faster revives on squadmates, as well as faster self-revives when using a self-revive kit. To suit up as a medic, you’ll want to scavenge these items:

    Skeleton key recipe

    Season 3 adds the skeleton key to DMZ. This is a special key that can unlock any door in DMZ, with the only exception being entry to Building 21. You’ll still need to get a Building 21 Access Keycard to access that location, but you can use the skeleton key to unlock spaces within Building 21. The only way to get this key is to craft it with these items:

    The GPU is a bit rarer than some of the other recipe requirements, but is found at random when searching the various computers all over the map. It also has a recipe of its own.

    You can now barter for a GPU to make getting a skeleton key or completing a specific mission a bit faster. So far, this seems specific to Ashika Island, so you’ll want to visit the island and scavenge these items:

    • 2 gold bars
    • 5 thumb drives
    DMZ secure backpack recipe

    Secure backpack recipe

    Season 3’s new secure backpack lets you secure scavenged items between runs, meaning the valuables you loot like GPUs and hard drives will stay in your pack for the next match, instead of converting into XP. You also won’t lose these items if you die. This only includes “non-Contraband, non-on-soldier items” in your inventory, so it won’t include Contraband weapons, killstreaks, gas masks or self-revives. You’ll want scavenge these items:

    • 1 electric drill
    • 1 gas can
    • 1 gold skull

    Scavenger backpack recipe

    Season 3’s new scavenger backpack provides more inventory slots. To have the best backpack for a scavenging session, you’ll first want to loot these items:

    • 1 battery
    • 1 canned foods
    • 2 gun cleaning oil

    3-Plate comms vest recipe

    Season 3’s new comms vest lets you get armored up and provide valuable intel. This vest is like a signal booster. It increases the duration of all UAV technology in DMZ (the killstreak, UAV towers, and enemy radios dropped by AI) and makes them function as Advanced UAVs, meaning they also show player direction and location.

    • 2 hard drives
    • 2 batteries
    • 1 smoothing hand cream

    Tempered plate carrier recipe

    The new tempered plate carrier is an armored vest, which works just like Warzone 1’s tempered plate carrier. Your armor will be two half-bars instead of three thirds, making it easier and more efficient to re-plate after a fight. So far, this vest seems specific to Ashika Island, so you’ll want to visit the island and scavenge these items:

    • 1 classified documents
    • 1 sensitive documents
    • 2 documents

    Revive pistol recipe

    The Revive Pistol field upgrade is a great option to take into a match of DMZ, especially if you’re the medic of your team. You’ll need to scavenge these items:

    • 1 bandage
    • 1 soothing hand cream

    Durable gas mask recipe

    Durable gas masks are always handy for either venturing into the radiation zone or trying to make a last minute escape to an exfil location. You’ll need to scavenge these items:

    GameStop Fires Guy After Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch Leak

    In March, an employee at a Massachusetts GameStop leaked on Reddit that Nintendo was probably about to reveal its long rumored special edition Zelda Switch at an upcoming mini-Direct for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Special editions such as these are highly coveted collector’s items, and news of one for the sequel to a best-selling game would be huge for fans looking to buy a new system. This week, GameStop fired the employee who leaked the news, and the employee claims he was told Nintendo helped make it happen.

    Back in March, Mike, who requested Kotaku only use his first name, posted a photo of a GameStop computer screen showing the inventory database had been updated with a secret new Switch model on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit. It was the day before Nintendo’s big extended gameplay reveal for Tears of the Kingdom, and the employee speculated in the post that a special edition Zelda Switch which had already leaked back in December, would be announced during the stream. Mike says he got fired on April 11, about two weeks later.

    In a phone interview with Kotaku, Mike said he made the leak because he was a big fan of the franchise and wanted to give others a heads up in case pre-orders went live that day. GameStop in particular has seen issues for buyers when it comes to preorders in the past, though this wasn’t a reason cited by Mike for the leak. On March 28, Nintendo did reveal a special edition Switch, and the following day pre-orders went live at GameStop and other retailers.

    At the time, the Reddit post didn’t garner a ton of upvotes, and the now former employee said he didn’t think of it as a big deal since he didn’t technically leak any images or special details about the console itself, and the post itself was mostly speculative. Nintendo also tends to release special consoles such as this one for most of its major releases, such as Pokémon.

    Collector’s Editions Are A Big Deal At GameStop

    But on April 5, a week later, Mike said the company traced the leak back to them. Coming in for his afternoon shift after watching the new Super Mario Bros. Movie on release day, he said his district manager called him into the backroom for a meeting. Joined by another GameStop supervisor via video conference, the employee said he was asked if he made the post and whether he knew it violated company policy.

    Mike said he immediately confessed, but maintained he wasn’t aware it went against the company’s social media policies. The district manager took their keys and placed them on suspension, saying the final punishment could vary between a first-offense write up and termination. It ended up being the latter. And the now former employee thinks Nintendo is to blame.

    When their store manager called on April 11 to deliver the bad news, he said the supervisor told them “off the record” that Nintendo had forced the company’s hand, demanding the employee be terminated over the leak. Mike shared the allegation on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit shortly afterwards writing, “Hopefully all of you were able to get your switch pre-orders in as now I will not be able to get mine.”

    GameStop and Nintendo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

    Another employee at the store corroborated Mike’s account to Kotaku, and said they were told by the same store manager in a separate conversation that Nintendo was the catalyst. “He was an amazing worker,” they said of Mike, adding that he was one of the top performers in the area when it came to achieving GameStop’s aggressive sales goals.

    Whoever ultimately made the decision to fire them, the leaker would have been easy to discover. Their social media accounts, including Instagram, Twitter, and Twitch, were linked in various ways to their Reddit account, and included several references to their general geographic location, as well as selfies. “I wasn’t really trying to cover my tracks because I didn’t know it would lead to this,” Mike told Kotaku.

    As a large-scale retailer staffed mostly by entry-level workers paid terrible hourly rates, GameStop has historically been a hotbed for big gaming leaks, from Assassin’s Creed to Call of Duty. But it’s rare to hear that someone was actually fired in connection with one of the leaks. It’s perhaps less surprising that this one happens to have been in connection with a big Nintendo reveal, however. The Mario maker has been on the warpath against leaks for years, most recently attempting to subpoena Discord for the private data of someone who shared images from the Tears of the Kingdom collector’s edition artbook.

    When asked if the former GameStop employee ultimately managed to secure a Zelda Switch pre-order, Mike confirmed he had. “But sadly I won’t be able to afford it anymore due to lack of a job,” he said. Mike added that when his manager had to deliver the bad news over the phone they pointed out what a shame it was: “This is your favorite company and now they hate you.”

    During the Necrom Chapter Preview livestream, the Elder Scrolls Online team showcased the upcoming chapter’s (arriving June 20 for PlayStation) new features and gameplay, including the Arcanist class, new group challenges, and a part of Apocrypha never seen before in an Elder Scrolls game. 

    Master the arcane

    When it came to the Arcanist, ESO’s first new class in four years, the team saw an opportunity to integrate it and its mechanics into Necroms setting and themes. As a result, the Arcanist draws power from Apocrypha itself, and the team relished the opportunity to combine elements of Hermaeus Mora’s realm into almost every aspect of the way the class looks, feels, and plays. 

    The Arcanist utilizes three unique Skill Lines, each supporting a different playstyle: Herald of the Tome (damage), Curative Runeforms (healing/support), and Soldier of Apocrypha (tanking). You’re never locked into any one Skill Line, and you can mix your abilities with any others that are already available.  

    The team also discussed the Arcanist’s all-new mechanic, the Crux System. When in combat, select Arcanist abilities generate a new resource called Crux, while others spend any saved Crux to receive a buff. If you seek to master this new class, you must learn how you utilize both your Crux-generating and spending abilities effectively. 

    Explore a new aspect of Apocrypha 

    In the Necrom Chapter, you can explore the realm of Apocrypha, an endless library containing unknown volumes of knowledge. Be warned—many seek to understand Apocrypha’s hidden secrets, but Mora’s realm also contains a terrifying host of dangers for those who come unprepared. 

    The team also revealed an all-new aspect of Apocrypha not seen in the Elder Scrolls series before now: Chroma Incognito. A roiling landscape of mind-bending color, Chroma Incognito is a world shaped by what never came to pass—a realm of possibility rejected by cruel fate that stands in vivid contrast to the rest of Apocrypha. 

    This distinct biome was an opportunity for the team to create something brand-new for Elder Scrolls fans while expanding upon the Prince of Knowledge’s domain. 

    Chroma Incognito, of course, is packed full of adventure and danger, including unique quests, delves, group bosses, and a public dungeon—all ready to be explored! 

    Overcome new challenges

    During the preview, the team also had the opportunity to break down some of Necrom’s new group challenges. 

    Bastion Nymic is an all-new world event, specific to the chapter, that sees you and up to three allies enter one of Hermaeus Mora’s strongholds to reclaim it from invaders. The fortress safeguards countless names of power, and should that knowledge fall into the wrong hands, it could spell doom for Apocrypha and Nirn alike. 

    However, gaining access to the bastion is no simple task, since you need to acquire special items first by defeating the Herald’s Seekers found wandering both the Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha. Acquiring enough items allows access to Bastion Nymic, but be aware that a host of malevolent Daedra infest the stronghold, including Mora’s own traitorous forces—good luck!

    In addition to the new world event, Necrom also introduces a 12-player Trial: Sanity’s Edge. In this PvE group activity, you venture into the mind of a member of the Mages Guild to undo the damage inflicted by his unsanctioned research.

    As you explore the battleground of this sundered psyche, you discover a host of sinister foes standing in the way, including three uniquely challenging bosses and surprise champions. 

    If you help the mage recover control of his fractured sanity, you receive special Trial rewards, including new item sets and some of the rarest collectibles in the game, such as the Ram of Dark Dreams mount.

    Each year, developers of annualized sports franchises work to craft new experiences to try and avoid the community criticism that each successive release is “just a roster update.” While real-life sports don’t evolve much year over year, developers still need to provide players with reasons to come back each time, whether that be gameplay improvements, enhanced modes, or better visuals. MLB The Show 23 does all of that while also exploring a unique avenue – history – to great effect.

    On the field, MLB The Show 23 plays as well as any entry to date. Whether stepping up to the plate at a critical moment with runners on, taking the mound in a tense bases-loaded situation, or simply chasing down a routine flyball, the gameplay is smooth and often gorgeous thanks to new animations in this year’s entry. Even the commentary, often one of the most challenging elements for sports games to nail, is top-notch.

    On the gameplay side, new quirks further differentiate the superstars and role-players, and various improvements to fielding (like a tweaked throwing meter) make for more skill-based play. It may be anecdotal, but I also notice fewer home runs this year, which is perhaps a testament to how the Casual, Competitive, and Simulation styles were tweaked. Of course, if anything isn’t to your liking, you can change things around in the extensive settings list, with which I experimented to great lengths. The list of adjustable settings is daunting, but the Options Explorer that launches when you first fire up the game helps you get things close to ideal in an efficient manner.

     

    Perhaps the centerpiece of this year’s new offerings is an excellent new Storylines mode highlighting The Negro Leagues. Featuring eight players, including Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Rube Foster, and Buck O’Neil, these chapters offer documentary-style talking-head clips before giving you control of these icons from the era of racial segregation. I loved learning more about and playing as some of the greatest players and most influential figures in the history of baseball.

    The bite-sized gameplay challenges are often simple enough to complete, but the reward of unlocking the next history lesson had me excited to see the last goal checked off my list. Too often, sports video games are fixated on the present and future of the sport, but MLB The Show 23 shows that looking back to the past is a rewarding avenue for developers to explore, especially when it’s about such an important but often-overlooked chapter in baseball’s history.

    In past years, the player-lock mode Road to the Show, where you develop a created player over several years, has been my favorite mode. However, the maturation of March to October, which started as a story-driven single-season mode, has led to it taking that title. The mode has grown substantially since its introduction in 2019, now offering scouting, trade logic, and plenty more while still only having you play the crucial moments of each season. Franchise mode offers you much more flexibility, breadth, and depth, but March to October tailors the experience to not only your performance but your team’s starting point, giving you a more dynamic and efficient experience.

    MLB The Show 23 offers so many different modes with which you can engage. From the card-collecting team-builder Diamond Dynasty to the history-rewriting Moments mode, you can step on the field from the angle of your choosing, with the level of commitment that matches how much time you have. You can even hone your skills in an improved practice mode where you can specify details down to the frequency of the pitch types thrown your way, or create your own stadium, now with more options than ever before.

    The action of MLB The Show 23 is superb, but the occasional technical or logic hiccup breaks immersion on a semi-regular basis. From checked swings clearly crossing the plate and being called safe (and vice-versa) to fielders not covering bases in certain situations and the computer-controlled runners completely misunderstanding the tag-up rules, unnecessary frustration reared its ugly head every few games. Add in some of the nets in foul territory constantly phasing in and out of existence, and MLB The Show 23 would definitely benefit from a patch addressing these, even if the overall package is already great as is.

    Real-life Major League Baseball continues to evolve in ways to encourage faster play in hopes of appealing to a broader audience, but MLB The Show 23 feels somehow ahead of the game. At the same time, the new Storylines mode shows the past is just as important as the future, providing players with the best of both worlds. Myriad options and modes allow you to engage with America’s Pastime precisely how you want, and in the process, MLB The Show 23 delivers one of the best baseball games in years.
