YouTube Introduces AI Deepfake Detection Tools for Creators

YouTube is enhancing its measures to detect AI-generated deepfakes through new tools that notify creators and publishers when their faces or voices are used without permission.

Deepfakes, which use generative AI to create realistic depictions of people, have become a major concern. YouTube is addressing this by developing two new detection technologies. The first, “synthetic-singing identification,” helps artists and publishers detect AI-generated versions of their singing voices using audio matching.

This new tool will aid music publishers in managing false depictions, adding another layer of protection against copyright violations.

YouTube is also creating a tool to detect AI-generated content featuring real people’s faces. This will assist celebrities, talent agents, and political figures in managing unauthorized use of their likenesses.

YouTube’s existing copyright protection tools, like Content ID, have already processed billions of claims and generated significant revenue for artists. As YouTube notes:

“Since 2007, Content ID has provided granular control to rightsholders across their entire catalogs on YouTube, with billions of claims processed annually.”
