THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with help from K9 Igo, apprehended a domestic violence suspect who tried to flee in the Rochester area early Friday morning.
Deputies reportedly located the suspect, who has not been identified by law enforcement, in a travel trailer with the intent to arrest him on a felony warrant out for his arrest for first-degree theft, domestic violence. There was also probable cause for new charges of residential burglary, domestic violence, and felony violation of a domestic violence protection order.
The suspect was reportedly “high on meth and barking back and forth with K9 Igo” while refusing to exit the trailer, according to a social media post by Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders.
After nearly an hour of negotiations, deputies were granted a search warrant to enter the trailer and arrest the suspect.
Before deputies executed the warrant, the suspect allegedly ran out of the trailer toward the deputies with “a black object in his hand” that deputies later learned was a flashlight.
Deputies simultaneously deployed a taser and a 40mm less lethal round as the suspect turned and tried to make a run for it.
K9 Igo reportedly “made short work of the fleeing suspect,” taking him down immediately and allowing deputies to handcuff the suspect while remaining on the bite, according to Sanders.
The suspect was treated at the hospital and booked into Thurston County Jail on the domestic violence charges, as well as for unlawful possession of meth, resisting arrest, and obstructing.
K9 Igo joined the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office alongside K9 Bowie in 2022, replacing K-9 Jaxx and K-9 Dexter.
