One thing about me: I’m a creature of habit. That fact was underscored for me recently as I began to strategize what to pack for an upcoming trip to Japan, where I’ll be walking close to 20,000 steps a day. A pair of comfortable boots is number one on my packing list, and as I began to sort through my boot collection, I realized that I buy the same style over and over again. Every pair of boots I own has a heel—there isn’t a single flat boot in sight. And while they may look good, heels aren’t going to work on a trip that involves this much walking.
All of that is to say I’m in the market for a good pair of flat boots (and an overhaul of my shopping habits). I took a scan through Shopbop knowing it would come through with some good options, but even I was surprised by its range of chic flat styles from leather Chelsea boots to motos to sleek riding boots. It’s safe to say I’m covered for my upcoming trip, and there are too many good finds not to share. Below, I’m highlighting the 31 best flat boots from Shopbop.
If you read my shopping stories regularly, you’ll know I spend an absurd amount of time scouring Nordstrom every day. It’s part of the job (and my pleasure!) to bring you all the chicest, of-the-moment pieces worth buying each season from the trusty retailer.
There’s no doubt it can take a while to weed out all the best sartorial gems, but this week, I’ve done just that. With winter upon us, below, I’m sharing the coolest and warmest winter fashion finds and trends worthy of your wallet from the multi-brand retailer. From sumptuous sweaters, chic coats, and cozy winter accessories, there’s a little something for every sartorial taste and budget. Keep scrolling to see my 31 favorite finds.
Is it just me, or does it feel like there’s a lot of good shopping right now? It’s probably just because I’m doing my best to become a minimalist who actually has little gaps between the coat hangers in my closet, which obviously means that everywhere I turn there’s something I could absolutely buy.
It feels like we’re all trying to shop more mindfully, whether that means buying fewer things or simply spending less. If you happen to be on the hunt for some great fashion without a price tag that makes you gulp, then this is your safe zone. Everything here is $150 or under, and extremely chic.
Now that we’re deep into December and have been wearing knitwear for at least a month now, it’s become clear what the emerging sweater trends are. Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber certainly agree on one in particular. That trend is Fair Isle sweaters. Jenner wore the classic après-ski style earlier this week in Aspen, and Bieber wore it upon her return to Los Angeles. Both of them wore Fair Isle sweaters by Khaite, who can largely be credited (along with Celine) for the returning popularity of the style this season.
Multicolored Fair Isle knitwear actually dates back to the early 19th century on an island near Scotland, when it was made for fisherman’s sweaters. Today, brands from low to high-end embrace the design each winter, but it’s become especially ubiquitous this season. One place I’ve come across multiple excellent examples of the trend is J.Crew, where its Fair Isle sweaters keep selling out. (Trust me—I’m on J.Crew.com a lot.) Scroll on to shop those along with Jenner’s and Bieber’s Khaite crew-neck and cardigan.
With a new year in play, it’s only natural that one thinks about resetting and as a fashion editor my mind obviously goes to my wardrobe first. Freshening up my wardrobe not only comes with a much-needed clean out but also probes me to reflect on the trends I’m ready to toss and forecast those I’m looking to try out.
Trends are ever changing and in a world plagued by consumerism and quick, easy purchasing, I’ve found it an important introspection to make sure I’m abiding by at least a one-in, one-out policy with my closet.
Living a fast-paced, city lifestyle and realizing that investing in my clothing is of utmost importance, I found that the A-list clothes I’m looking forward to adding all hinge on practicality. And in return, the ones I’m losing are those that don’t offer that same functionality. A few I’m tossing include micro mini bags, impractical stilettos, and Y2k baby tees, and in return, I’m adding medium-sized shoppers, sensible sling backs, and athletic jerseys.
Below, I’ve detailed all the exciting trends I’m looking forward to bringing in this year as well as an accompanying shopping list in case you’re looking for a refresh too.
When it comes to the holidays, there’s no one I trust more than Linda Fargo, Bergdorf Goodman’s SVP and Fashion Director, not to mention the master of all things festive. Simply put, everything that goes in and out of the iconic New York City mainstay goes through her, especially during the holidays, when the 200,000+ square-foot building transforms into a winter wonderland of luxury, excess, and glamour. Because of that, you can safely bet that she’s well versed in the year’s most-wanted items and trends for the season of presents and parties, from dresses and jewelry to shoes and handbags.
With December fully under way, I called on Fargo following the store’s 2023 holiday-window unveiling (which she fabulously hosted alongside Martha Stewart wearing the sparkliest gown I’ve ever seen and a matching silver Moncler puffer) to find out which holiday-dressing trends she’s backing for the joyous time ahead. And as always, she didn’t disappoint. Scroll down to get the inside scoop from the “eyes of Bergdorf Goodman” herself.
Let’s cut to the chase: It’s the end of the year and my fingers are already itching to start my 2024 wardrobe. While my closet is already filled with timeless basics and fun, trend-forward pieces, there’s nothing that gives me quite as much of a rush as finding a cute, chic item that doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Enter Shopbop.
The beloved retailer has been my go-to source for styling and fashion inspiration the last few weeks as the weather gets chillier and chillier. Thankfully, though, while I can’t afford to buy out the entire site, I can browse the brand’s stunning under-$200 section that has me thinking dangerous thoughts. After seeing all of these pieces, all I could think was, “You’re coming home with me.”

If we’re being honest, most color trends are fleeting, but occasionally, one manages to break out of the cycle and become a “neutral” hue in its own right—red has done just that. Since last spring, we’ve seen various shades of red surface on the runways, but it wasn’t until we began researching for this story that we were fully convinced this color is here to stay. While we didn’t see one singular shade of red reign supreme, two noteworthy variations were found across the fall/winter 2023 and spring/summer 2024 collections: crimson and cherry red. With the former, we saw the highly saturated red play a bigger part in fall collections, but it did carry over into spring too! Designers often used crimson to make typical silhouettes feel sultrier. That aim was on full display at Stella McCartney in a double-breasted coat and matching slip skirt that came in crimson red. At Tory Burch, we saw how a longline wrap coat becomes fiery when fashioned from a crimson material. And then there was Ferragamo’s fall collection, which featured suits, knits, and coats in the brightest possible version of crimson.
If the fall collections were all about using this shade of red to dial up the heat, then spring was all about bringing it to a subdued simmer, which is apparent in the broad adoption of cherry red. Designers took this decadent shade of red and dialed up the ante by using it for “luxurious” items. For example, in Sabato De Sarno’s debut show for Gucci, leather goods like bags, moto jackets, midi skirts, and pumps all came in cherry red. Similarly, a Versace skirt suit came in drool-worthy cherry-red leather. Although the shades differ in vibrancy, they’re both a reminder that any color can be neutral if you’re willing to commit.

It’s official: We’ve reached the point of the year when we watch the clock count down to the final moments of 2023. While some might be solely focused on what the future holds for them in the coming year, it’s not a bad idea to take a moment to reminisce. Sure, it’s more exciting to think about opening a new chapter in our lives—whether that looks like plans to travel more, adopt new trends, get back into a workout routine, or update your beauty regime. Being able to look back can also help us navigate how we want to move forward into the future, even if what we’re mulling over is something as “frivolous” as the fashion trends that defined the year. After all, there’s no better time capsule for what has happened in the culture than the trends that have found their way into our closets!
Our clothing can tell us everything we need to know about how things have changed over time; therefore, taking a moment to take stock is a worthwhile use of time in the last moments of the year. Of course, there are many things one can look back to as indicators of what happened this year (e.g., celebrity style, television shows, viral runway looks), but none in our minds quite encapsulate time like accessories. Hear us out. Not every trend can translate from the runway to our real lives, but bags? That’s a different story.
Although the influence of this accessory may seem small compared to the larger ready-to-wear trends, that’s far from the truth. On a grander scale, handbags have always acted as an entry point into the luxury space for many who might not always be able to access it otherwise. Plus, the shapes, sizes, and specs of trending bags speak to larger cultural sentiments of the time. It’s not a stretch to say that popular handbags carry more weight to them than one might think. To prove that point, we dug through the archives of spring/summer 2023 and fall/winter 2023 runway collections to identify the biggest handbag trends of the year. To ensure each trend carries the influence we claim, we cross-referenced them with street style imagery from Instagram to ensure that each of the seven trends listed is popular. Rest assured, you’ll see everyone carrying these bag trends for the rest of the winter.
H&M is a treasure trove of easy and elevated staples that are not only chic but affordable too. On a mission to add some new winter pieces to my wardrobe, I’ve been scouring H&M’s site from top to bottom this week to see what of-the-moment pieces I can score on my limited budget. (After all, the holiday shopping has unquestionably made a dent in my wallet!). Luckily, I uncovered a range of effortless winter pieces that are all under $75 but look very high-end.
Essentially, if you were to add one of the affordable H&M items below to a winter outfit, you’d look instantly chic! Keep scrolling to check out the most sumptuous sweaters, chic coats, and elevated accessories that a fashion editor would buy instantly from H&M.
People-watching at the airport is one of my favorite things to do—especially around the holidays when travelers are getting creative with dressing for coziness. Many of the outfits you see will be all coat though, so let’s talk about the part of the outfit you will most likely be able to see: shoes.
Wearing the wrong shoes to the airport has the potential to all but ruin your travel day but luckily, there are several current winter shoe trends that you won’t regret wearing for your flight. And I predict that
Scanning through Nordstrom has become a joyful daily routine, much like drinking my vanilla latte and indulging in long showers. It’s part of my job as Who What Wear’s senior market editor to keep abreast of all the coolest new fashion items at the trusty retailer and share the best pieces with you, our dear readers. And that’s exactly what I’m doing today! After thoroughly scouring the multi-brand retailer, I’m bringing you all my favorite winter fashion finds that I believe are worth adding to your closet this season.
From versatile basics to statement sweaters, cool boots, and luxe-looking coats, there’s a piece that will suit every taste, budget, and winter craving. So if there’s a missing piece in your winter wardrobe, you’ll be sure to find it below. Stay warm in style!
Talk to any fashion person, and they’ll admit winter is when they really start dressing. The arrival of cold weather proves perfect for a chic ensemble complete with crafted layers, statement coats, and sleek boots to combat the December, January, and February blues. Now that winter has finally settled in and our shopping lists are long, it’s time to admit that sometimes, the cute coat-and-boot combinations we see online can skyrocket into hundreds of dollars. Yikes!
Thankfully, after doing some digging, I came up with eight easy-to-replicate coat-and-boot outfit ideas, all ringing in under $250. From fresh NYC inspiration to classic French looks, browse the best wallet-friendly boots and coats to buy right now.
After some highly scientific research (chatting to friends and tallying the shopping requests that come in via my DMs, very advanced stuff) I can conclude that most of our shopping lists currently include at least one of the following items: Cozy winter coats, great-value beauty gift sets, on-trend boots, endless ideas for gifts, and chic knits—everyone seems to be in the mood for a new sweater.
I’m happy to report that I’ve found excellent deals on all of the above at Nordstrom’s secret sale, which seems to have popped up just in time to take the edge off our holiday season expenditures. Let’s start with those sweaters.
When it comes to sale shopping, I like to start with the basics. It’s a sure-fire way I know I can probably justify a little splurge of impulse shopping—because really, when have I ever regretted reinvesting in the classic staples I wear on repeat? The meat and potatoes of my wardrobe, if you will?
Typically when we cover “vacation outfits” you’ll see many sun-drenched photos on the rocky beaches of Mallorca and the like. But today, I’m focusing on the cozy winter vacations that European girls take. Instead of jetting off to Italy or the South of France, lately, chic European girls have been visiting cities like Copenhagen, New York, or Paris, or opting for something a bit more rural such as the English countryside or the Scottish Highlands. Accordingly, their recent vacation outfits are basically the opposite of the bikini-clad ones we see throughout the summer.
As to be expected, these chic vacation outfits contained plenty of current trends, and I’m here to highlight the standout ones. From a certain coat trend that’s perfect for Paris to the shoes that are just right in Wales, these cozy cold-weather trends are great ones to try whether you’re traveling or staying local this winter. Scroll to familiarize yourself and shop them for your own seasonal wardrobe.
It’s one of those days when I feel like the universe is messing with me. I recently did a ruthless cull of my fall and winter footwear, settling on a chic capsule of just five perfect pairs (and a search for just one more) that truly are all I need. Now, the trouble with telling the world about this is that I’ve backed myself into a corner where I really can’t make any sneaky additional shoe purchases—which was the whole point, to be fair.
And now, just when I thought I was in the clear after commendably making it through Black Friday and Cyber Monday without so much as *harmlessly* popping a pair of shoes in my cart, Nordstrom decided to go ahead and have another massive surprise sale, seemingly in an attempt to ruin me. In lieu of shopping for myself, I’ve thrived in curating the tip-top pairs for you out of everything that’s on sale: chic flats, black boots, Mary Janes, modern heels that feel special (but aren’t doing too much). For the record, all of these would slip very nicely into my capsule wardrobe, which is exactly what will be happening as soon as a spot opens up.
As you probably already now by now, we love a good Nordstrom sale here at Who What Wear. Right now, the multi-brand retailer is having a limited holiday sale where you can score up to 50% off the chicest winter pieces and designer brands until December 15. As Who What Wear’s senior shopping editor, I’ve already sifted through its discounted offerings from top to bottom, and there are so many chic pieces you don’t want to miss.
A good friend of mine asked me to send her some well-priced sale items that exude rich vibes, so of course, I happily obliged! And I’m sharing the list with you all today. From elegant long wool coats to sumptuous cashmere sweaters and silky tops, below you’ll find the most luxe-looking items from Nordstrom’s big holiday sale that will make your winter wardrobe look expensive but won’t cost a fortune. In fact, all my picks are under $200.
When it comes to putting together an expensive-looking wardrobe, many people get caught up in the idea that the pricer the pieces are, the better. I’m here to completely change your mind. With the right pieces, any closet can look designer, regardless of the price tag. It’s all in the cut, the fabric, the fit, and, most importantly, the styling. One type of fashion item that almost always achieves an expensive feel is an elevated basic.
One retailer that is well-known for offering stellar elevated basics that only look expensive is H&M. I recently did a deep dive with all this in mind and came up with a plethora of options that fit the bill—all but one piece is under $100. Below, you’ll find a chic selection of sweaters, dressed, coats, shoes, and even bags that will easily give you that rich-girl vibe you seek. Make sure to take note of how each piece is styled for the added benefit.
New York has been freezing ever since I got back from London, and I’m right at the point where I’ve been wearing knits long enough to be craving some chic, new options. So what a little treat that Nordstrom is having a sale that’s positively overflowing with excellent sweaters at this coziest and most expensive time of year.
I’d hate for you to miss out on the best of the sale, so I’ve curated the under-$180 sweater styles that I’m predicting will sell out first. It’s all here, from cable-knits to chunky turtlenecks, Fair Isle to stripes, trending cardigans to on-sale cashmere. So make like David Rose on Schitt’s Creek and begin assembling your cedar chest—you’re going to need extra storage to accommodate all your expensive-looking new knits.
