Sorry, Jeans—Alexa Chung Just Wore the Easy Trouser Trend I'd Rather Try

    [ad_1]

Once upon a time, loungewear was what we allowed ourselves to indulge in only when we knew we wouldn’t be coming into contact with any other humans that day. But this year, our comfiest pieces are set to be seen everywhere but the sofa. Recently, Alexa Chung, the model and presenter elevated her humble Adidas track pants with some clever styling tricks.

Wearing her burgundy bottoms with black kitten heels, Chung defied the boundaries of casual pants by utilizing cool, trendy styling choices. She paired her trousers with a cotton button-down and a long, black, tailored coat. Chung’s outfit-elevating tactics juxtaposed the relaxed feel of track pants for a fashion-forward take on comfort dressing, and she’s not the only one who is set to turn track pants on their head this year.

What accessory trends are reigning supreme this cold-weather season? Below we’re sharing eight key items the fashion set is loving right now that will make your outfits look chic and on-trend this winter, from luxe leather gloves to colorful socks.

  • Sorry Quiet Luxury, In My Opinion This Will Be 2024's Defining Aesthetic

Sorry Quiet Luxury, In My Opinion This Will Be 2024's Defining Aesthetic

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

When defining the balletcore look, there are a few things to remember. The first is that a major part of the overall aesthetic is about tapping into things that are “pretty” or traditionally “feminine,” which manifests through the color palette, textiles, and silhouettes chosen. Typically, you’ll see ballerinas or anybody aspiring towards this look donning a muted pastel color palette of pale pink, light lilac, baby blue, and sage green, with pops of neutrals, including white, black, gray, and shades of nude. Occasionally, a brighter color will be thrown into the mix, like saffron red, but overall, most of the color palette is demure.

In terms of the textiles, you’ll see a mix of materials that will either be “performance-ready” or “off-duty casual.” For example, while ballerinas are on stage, they typically wear textiles made from tulle or chiffon (the material that makes the iconic tutu) embellished with crystals, ruffles, or any other form of appliqués. While off-stage, you’ll typically find that ballerinas are all about comfort, which is reflected through the adoption of more breathable materials that are easy to dance in, like jersey, cotton, and cashmere

The same can be said for silhouettes, as the dancer’s schedules often inform them. Traditionally, you’d find a ballerina’s onstage look silhouette to be a dress with a form-fitting bodice and voluminous skirt. But designers have expanded that silhouette to include bubble hems, drop-waists, puff sleeves, and even looser-fitting ruffled frocks. In terms of off-duty silhouettes, you’ll see more of the traditional workout gear in the form of leotards, tights or leggings, and boleros. Overall, these are the things that have informed what we now consider “balletcore.” But ultimately, the key to nailing this fashion aesthetic is all about finding clothing that feels like it could be worn by ballerinas on the dance floor but incorporated into daily life effortlessly. So, what key pieces can ensure you embody this aesthetic? Find out…

  • 9 Major Trends That Will Define Fall/Winter Fashion

9 Major Trends That Will Define Fall/Winter Fashion

    [ad_1]

It took a while—and over 1000 runway images—to finally wrap our heads around the contents of fashion month. For the first time in a long time, the runways this fall/winter season had an almost tangible air of newness to them, with a handful of designer debuts—including Daniel Lee at Burberry and Ludovic de Saint Sernin at Ann Demeulemeester—and a number of veterans successfully refreshing their brands in the eyes of the fashion community. Most substantial, though, were the trends presented by these designers and so many more, who managed to deliver some of the most unexpected groupings we’ve seen in ages that somehow still fit within the current zeitgeist.

Tory Burch, Miuccia Prada for Prada and Miu Miu, Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, and Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta all seemed to grasp what so many have tried and failed to in the past—that is, what women actually wear. In a relatable move, Prada sent models down the runway at Miu Miu looking intentionally frazzled, having remembered to wear stockings and outerwear but forgotten pants and a hairbrush.

Elsewhere, Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent collection displayed a contrasting glimpse of the female form, one that’s strict in its put-togetherness, utilizing intensely strong tailoring and powerful silhouettes to get his message across. Finally, at Loewe, Ferragamo, and Jil Sander, our desire for comfort played out in the form of furry footwear, fashionable security blankets, and apparel fitted with oversize hoods.

Determine which of the above fits your current mindset by scrolling through the nine trends from the fall/winter 2023 runways below.

  • Rihanna and ASAP Rocky Wore Winter's Biggest Basics Trend Together in Aspen

Rihanna and ASAP Rocky Wore Winter's Biggest Basics Trend Together in Aspen

    [ad_1]

As is often the case when you’re a celebrity, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky are in Aspen for the holidays, and for a recent shopping excursion, they coordinated their casual (well, their version of casual) winter outfits perfectly.

It may seem a bit counterintuitive for there to be basics trends, but there are plenty of them each season (think, crewneck cardigans, white tank tops, and leggings, to name a few present and past ones). This season, the basics trend that everyone is buzzing about is hoodies. Hoodies are never not in style, but after gracing the F/W 23 runways of Bottega Veneta, Proenza Schouler, and Max Mara, hoodies went from being “boring” to “fashion”. And speaking of Bottega Veneta, that’s the brand of the grey pullover hoodie that both Rihanna and ASAP Rocky just wore in Aspen. It’s cashmere and nearly $4k, but that’s the very rare exception when it comes to hoodies—not the norm.

With that, keep scrolling to shop some of the coolest hoodies of the season in case you want to do as Rihanna and ASAP do.

  • These 4 Winter Shoe Trends Are Out, and These 4 Are In—That's All

These 4 Winter Shoe Trends Are Out, and These 4 Are In—That's All

    [ad_1]

I’ll give you five seconds to name the first shoe that comes to mind when you think of winter. Was it Uggs? What about ski boots? Come cold weather, the shoes that first come to mind are those that are durable, practical, and cozy. But I’m here to tell you this winter, my favorite shoe trends to know put practicality at play with style. Unlike painful or impractical trends of the past, these comfortable shoes are among my favorites. As someone who much prefers warm weather to cold temps, I think of these four styles as the summer person’s winter footwear starter pack. They embody the ease of Birkenstocks or block-heeled sandals but keep the toes covered and can be layered with a pair of cashmere socks when the occasion calls for it.

One thing I do love about dressing during winter is how easy it is to play with textures and layer in ways that make outfits feel thoughtful and complex. Within each of the four shoe trends I’m highlighting as worth your while for winter, I wanted to show versatility with a range of materials and colors. Think velvet Mary Janes, a decidedly indoor shoe style that I want to break out for a holiday dinner, or weather-resistant sneakers in a shocking green hue that make even the gloomiest rainy day feel brighter. Whether you’re more of a minimalist or your cold-weather style is sporty, there’s a shoe for you to enjoy.

J.Crew’s Hits Just Keep Coming—These Items Are the Getting the Most Buzz

    [ad_1]

If you’re not already following J.Crew creative director and head designer Olympia Gayot on Instagram, I highly recommend it. Not only is the ’90s-vibe catalogue content a treat, but her occasional office mirror selfies act give you a heads up as to which chic new J.Crew pieces you’ll want to jump on.

Obviously J.Crew is still busy giving us their classics: Easy denim, great-value cashmere knits, and loads of other quality basics to wear on repeat. But now we’re also seeing some buzzy collaborations and regular high-trend moments, such as this fall and winter’s slew of red and metallic pieces, the polished layer affectionately know as the “lady jacket”, and more Mary Janes than we know what to do with. Here are the chic pieces of the moment that you won’t want to miss.

Chic, Not Trendy: 27 Nordstrom Items for Effortless Style

    [ad_1]

So, my official mantra at the moment is ‘fewer, better things’, but if I’m allowed to have a second, it would be ‘chic, not trendy’. But look, as I write this I’m sitting here in my Sambas—so I’m clearly not anti-trend, nor am I immune to a bit of hype. That being said, I have been doubling (and tripling, even quadrupling) down on certain fashion styles and silhouettes for a few years now, and it feels like over the past few years, new iterations of these classic pieces continue to be shoppable each season.

Perhaps the algorithms have just learnt to keep serving me up more of the quiet luxury they’ve figured out I like? Whatever it is, there’s no shortage of fashion on the internet right now that feels timelessly chic, with just nod to this season’s trends. I’ve curated the best shoes, bags, apparel, and winter accessories from Nordstrom that capture this energy. Some picks are designer, some are a bargain, and all of them are very worth your time.

I Love Simple Yet Elevated Style—5 Basics That Make Any Outfit Look Expensive

For as long as I can remember, simple yet elevated has been my go-to aesthetic. Think classic ’90s minimalism meets French chic. This winter, there are some key pieces I have my eye on with all this in mind. To start with, it’s sweater season, and effortless sweaters that happen to be right up my alley are abundant. I'm Pretty Confident These 30 Nordstrom Items Will Sell Out by January

    [ad_1]

I’m competitive by nature. Not the kind of competitive that playing a game with me is a drag, but enough so that I don’t like to settle. For better or worse, this trait comes out in several areas of my life, not the least of which is clothes shopping. When I find a desirable piece that I know is going to be here today gone tomorrow, I can’t help but feel the heat to get my hands on it.

There are several Nordstrom pieces that I currently feel this way about and I’m pretty sure you will too. You’ve been on the hunt for a red knit sweater? Well, I’ve found the perfect pullover mockneck. You’d like to get in on the barrel leg jeans trend? I’ve got you there, too. There’s also a pair of grommeted kitten heels I’ve included on multiple shopping lists because…they’re that good. So, if you’d like to take a break from all the holiday hoopla to treat yourself, have at it! I can say with the utmost certainty these pieces will sell out come January.

Trust Me—These Are the Only 6 Trendy Winter Buys You Need to Shop Right Now

    [ad_1]

Sure, trends come and go, but, this winter we’ve been blessed with some seriously wearable ones. So, it’s understandable if you’ve been on the fence about which items you should add to your cart. While trends aren’t necessarily meant to be long-lasting pieces (although the quiet luxury aesthetic could give us a run for our money, here), it’s always helpful to ask yourself if you can get at least two seasons of wear out of a purchase. On the flip side, since trends are fleeting, buying something “just for fun” is also completely valid (and, well, fun!)

This list is comprised of both those sensibilities. They’re the six pieces that we keep coming back to and frequently stop our scrolling to admire. Not to mention that many of them would make excellent holiday party attire. If you needed permission to press “Add to Cart,” consider it done. The only buys you really need before spring are just a moment away.

Standout Sale: 31 Nordstrom Items That Demand Attention

    [ad_1]

I’m an unapologetic lover of HGTV. (Yes, you may DM me if you have suggestions.) In one episode I watched recently, the husband-and-wife duo were discussing landscaping for a craftsman-style house they were renovating in the South, flower boxes in particular. It turns out there are three key types of plants to know about when it comes to flower boxes: thrillers, fillers, and spillers. Thrillers are the hero flowers of the season that are the main event, fillers are the low-key shrubs that fill in the gaps, and spillers are the ones that hang down over the edge and add dimensions and, most importantly, create a little drama.

As I hunted through Nordstrom’s current markdowns to share the best of the sale, my HGTV-riddled brain started filtering them into corresponding buckets. You’re just going to have to trust me. Here they are, and they’re all on sale and very deserving of your attention.

It’s that time of year… no, we’re not talking about the holiday season but rather the point when you begin to get the itch for massive change. With a new year on the horizon, it’s only natural to become dead-set on dramatically shifting your life. For most, that change comes from setting resolutions, but for fashion people, it means overhauling your look entirely. While there are multiple ways to go about this mission, not everything will give you that fix without regrets after. Dyeing your hair? You could come to hate it. Or cleaning out your closet? It’s too big an undertaking. Basically, some changes are a bit over the top, but not all hope is lost.

There’s one simple way to feel like you’ve done something without any of the pitfalls: swap out your jewelry. When in doubt, adopting a few new jewelry trends can freshen up your look without breaking the bank on an entirely new wardrobe. But if you’re unsure which jewelry trends will offer you that “shiny-new” feeling, don’t fret. We’ve got you. Ahead, we’re breaking down the six biggest winter jewelry trends based on their prominence in F/W 23 collections and S/S 24 collections that are sure to be instant hits. Trust us when we say these trends will indeed transform your life (or, at the very least, your style).
