Benedict Cumberbatch’s parents insisted he take on a different career path than the family acting business.

Cumberbatch is the son of actors Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham, seemingly setting him on a path to stardom. However, his parents warned him against following in their footsteps with stark advice.

“I was, if anything pressured the other way, like, ‘Don’t do what we’re doing. It’s a stupid way to spend a life,’” he recalled during Monday’s episode of “SmartLess,” before adding, “‘And how family life is a chaotic jumble of loose-end commitments that have to be abandoned at the last minute because dad’s got an advert audition.’”

“They did really, really well in their careers. Mom, especially commercially. Dad, brilliantly as well in the theater. He did a lot of the royal court in the early days of kitchen sink drama there. But the point is, you know, they … wanted me to have the opportunities that they didn’t, or that they didn’t have in their life as my parents. And they afforded me an education where I could have gone on to be a lawyer or something of that.”

Cumberbatch noted that despite his parents’ warning, the acting “bug had bit.”

“…It was very much to do with watching them … in their prime, doing what they did,” he explained.

Cumberbatch’s father is known for roles in “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” “Downton Abbey,” and numerous British TV series.

Ventham became a familiar face on British TV with roles in “UFO,” “Only Fools and Horses,” along with guest appearances in “Doctor Who,” plus “Holby City.”

He has appeared in “The Imitation Game,” “Doctor Strange,” “12 Years A Slave” and “The Power of the Dog.”

Deion Sanders shares emotional moment with son, Shedeur, before Browns rookie’s first NFL start

All eyes are on Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders as he makes his first NFL start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon.

A pair of those eyes include his Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, who was spotted at Allegiant Stadium as his son walked the tunnel out to the field with the Browns.

They shared a father-son moment, where they inaudibly spoke to each other as Coach Prime had a big smile on his face, tapping his son’s helmet.

Then, Shedeur Sanders gave a quick speech to his teammates before running out onto the field.

“The work’s already been done, bro. We already worked for this s—. You feel me? It’s us. Let’s do it. I believe in y’all. Y’all believe in me. Let’s do it,” he said.

Sanders hyped up the crowd as he ran out onto the field in Las Vegas and started to take it all in. From there, it was time to warm up.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made the announcement that Sanders would be starting for his team on Sunday, as Gabriel is in concussion protocol. Gabriel, who Stefanski went with over Sanders after the trade of Joe Flacco, did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday.

Though Gabriel was able to practice on Friday, he was ruled out with Bailey Zappe being named Sanders’ backup.

Snaders made his regular season debut this past week in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, where he didn’t have the best outing. The Colorado product threw for only 47 yards on 4-of-16 passing with an interception thrown.

But Sanders had very limited first-team reps during practice last week, and he was thrown into the fire against an aggressive Ravens defense in the 23-16 defeat. However, Sanders had the full week of practice with the thought that he would start, and now that opportunity presents itself against a 2-8 Raiders team.

The Browns’ quarterback position is wide open, and now Sanders, who was a fifth-round pick after many believed he would be gone on night one in Green Bay, has the chance to cement himself as Cleveland’s guy for the remainder of the season.

Ford recalls more than 200,000 Bronco and Bronco Sports for instrument panel failure

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 200,000 Bronco and Bronco Sport vehicles because an instrument panel can fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

Federal auto safety regulators said that the instrument panel may not display at startup, leaving the driver without critical safety information.

The recall includes 128,607 Ford Bronco Sports, model years 2025-2026 and 101,002 Ford Broncos, also model years 2025-2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

Ford is not aware of any injuries caused by the instrument panel failure.

Owners will be notified by mail beginning Dec. 8 and instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the software updated.

The NHTSA recall number is 25V540.

Paige Greco, Paralympic gold medalist, dies at 28

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Australian cyclist Paige Greco, a Paralympic gold medalist, has died. She was 28.

A joint statement by the Australian Paralympic Committee and Australian cycling federation said that Greco “passed away in her Adelaide home after experiencing a sudden medical episode” on Sunday.

“Paige meant everything to us,” her mother Natalie Greco said.” Her kindness, her determination and her warmth touched our family every single day. She brought so much joy and pride into our lives, and the pain of her passing is something we will carry forever.

“While we are devastated by her loss, we are incredibly proud of the person she was and the way she represented Australia.”

Greco, who was born with cerebral palsy, won the first gold medal of the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, breaking her own world record in the women’s C1-3 3,000-meter individual pursuit.

She went on to add bronze medals in the road race and time trial.

Greco also won multiple world championship titles and World Cup medals, after bursting onto the para-cycling scene with three world records, two gold medals and a silver at the 2019 track world championship — just a year after switching to cycling from para-athletics.

Cameron Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Paralympics Australia said the loss one of the brightest young stars of the Australian Paralympic Movement was devastating.

“The sadness being felt across Paralympics Australia today is a reflection of the enormous regard in which she was held,” said Cameron Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Paralympics Australia. “Paige was an extraordinary athlete, but more importantly, a remarkable person.

“Her achievements on the international stage were exceptional, but it was her kindness, her quiet determination and the way she uplifted people around her that will stay with us all. She had a rare ability to make people feel included and supported, and her influence will no doubt leave a lasting impression on so many.”

‘Real Housewives’ alum Kim Zolciak accuses estranged husband Kroy Biermann of cheating as divorce drags on

Kim Zolciak has accused her estranged husband, Kroy Biermann, of cheating on her during their 12-year marriage.

When asked what the final straw was that led her to file for divorce in 2023, Zolciak told Entertainment Tonight, “He cheated.” The former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star got candid at Bravocon over the weekend about the status of her divorce from the former NFL player.

“No movement, no change, just constant antics,” she told the outlet. “When I said I was filing for divorce, he said, I’m gonna publicly destroy you. And he told both my daughters that as well, and that’s been his goal, and that’s all he cares about. It hasn’t worked yet.”

“I’m sorry, I’m legally married and so is he,” she told the outlet responding to the claims she’s dating a married man. “So he’s been going through a divorce for years as well.”

“So I don’t know. I guess I’m supposed to wait until I’m legally divorced, which I don’t think Kroy will ever give me a divorce,” she claimed.

Fox News Digital reached out to a representative for Biermann for comment.

Zolciak and Biermann both filed for divorce in May 2023. However, the two quickly called it off.

Biermann filed for divorce again just months later in August 2023. The former professional football player stated his 12-year marriage was “irretrievably broken” in documents obtained by Fox News Digital at the time.

The two share four children: Kroy, Kash, and twins Kaia and Kane. Biermann also adopted Zolciak’s adult daughters from a previous relationship, Brielle and Ariana Zolciak-Biermann.

Kai Trump shoots 13-over 83 in LPGA Tour debut, leaving her last in 108-player field

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Kai Trump shot a 13-over 83 on Thursday in her LPGA Tour debut in The Annika, leaving President Donald Trump’s granddaughter last in the 108-player field.

In breezy afternoon conditions at Pelican Golf Club, the high school senior bogeyed the first four holes and finished the birdie-less round with nine bogeys and two double bogeys.

“I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there,” she said. “I hit a lot of good shots just to the wrong spots.”

The University of Miami recruit is playing on a sponsor exemption.

“It was pretty cool because I know I hit it far, but kind of playing with the best players in the world and being literally right there or even outdriving on some of the holes, it felt pretty good,” said Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. “Felt like my game is in a good spot, and especially only being a senior in high school.”

Haeran Ryu led the tournament at 6-under 64, also playing in the afternoon.

German Baumkuchen ‘tree cake’ survived a disaster and world wars to become a Japanese favorite

NINOSHIMA, Japan (AP) — Baumkuchen originated in Germany but has become a wildly popular sweet in Japan, where a prisoner of war on a small western island started making the treat that has thrived in its new homeland.

Today, the confectionery known as “tree cake” because of the resemblance to a trunk with rings is considered a symbol of longevity and prosperity in Japan, where Baumkuchen festivals are regularly held.

Japanese adaptations, including those using maccha and sweet potatoes, are popular gifts at weddings and birthdays. Baumkuchen is sold in gift boxes at luxury department stores and individually wrapped, smaller versions can be found at convenience stores.

The sweet’s early years, however, are associated with a catastrophic earthquake and two world wars.

Making Baumkuchen is one of most popular activities on Ninoshima, just a 20-minute ferry ride from Hiroshima. But visitors also must learn the sleepy island’s role in Japan’s wartime history, according to Kazuaki Otani, head of the Juccheim Ninoshima Welcome Center.

At the outdoor center built over the site of a prisoner of war camp, amateur bakers pour batter on a bamboo pole and roast the mixture over a charcoal fire. As the surface turns light brown, a new layer is poured, creating brown rings as the cake grows thicker and the sweet smell wafts through the picnic area.

This is how a German confectioner named Karl Juchheim baked Baumkuchen while he was imprisoned on the island more than 100 years ago.

During Japan’s militarist expansion period beginning in the late 1890s, Ninoshima served as a military quarantine station as nearby Hiroshima developed into a major military hub. About 4,700 mostly German civilians and servicemembers were kept at 16 camps across Japan during World War I. The German prisoners at Ninoshima were given “a certain degree of freedom” and allowed to cook, Otani said.

Juchheim was running a bakery in Qingdao, China, then a German territory, when he was captured by the Japanese in 1915. He arrived on Ninoshima in 1917 with some 500 German POWs and is believed to have tested his Baumkuchen recipe there, Otani said.

When the war ended in 1918, Juchheim and about 200 fellow POWs stayed in Japan. In March 1919, Juchheim’s Baumkuchen commercially debuted in Japan at the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition. His handmade cake was hugely popular and attracted a big crowd of Japanese visitors, historical documents show.

The confectioner opened a pastry shop in Yokohama, near Tokyo, in 1922. The 1923 Great Kanto quake destroyed the business and forced Juchheim to move his family to the western port city of Kobe, where he opened a coffee shop serving Baumkuchen. That store was leveled by U.S. firebombings on Kobe two months before the end of World War II.

Yet he remained and grew the business in Kobe, where Juchheim Co., Ltd., still operates as one of Japan’s top confectioners with the help of his wife Elise and devoted Japanese staff.

The atomic bomb dropped by the U.S. on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, and another on Nagasaki three days later killed more than 210,000 by the end of that year. In the aftermath, about 10,000 severely injured victims were shipped from Hiroshima to Ninoshima for treatment and temporary shelter. Most died there and many of their remains have yet to be found, experts say.

Juchheim died of illness at a Kobe hotel on Aug. 14, 1945, the day before Japan announced its surrender.

“His baking was an expression of his wish for peace,” Otani said. “By sharing with visitors what things were like back then, I hope it gives people an opportunity to reflect on peace.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs celebrated his 56th birthday behind bars in a way that was far from his past party days.

Diddy rang in another year at Fort Dix, where he’s serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted of federal sex crimes.

Long gone are the party-filled nights for the disgraced music mogul. Instead, Combs was left with the standard prison menu to mark his birthday on Nov. 4.

At Fort Dix, breakfast is served around 6:30 a.m. Diddy would have been given the options of bran flakes, breakfast cake or bread with jelly, according to People magazine.

Between 11 a.m. and noon, inmates could choose either a chickpea burger or chicken parmesan. For the sides, the rapper could have helped himself to pasta with marinara sauce and spinach.

Diddy would have had an early dinner, around 4:30 p.m. The inmates were offered cheese pizza or navy beans, according to the outlet. The dinner entre was served with Italian pasta salad, green beans and a garden salad.

Fox News Digital reached out to Fort Dix for comment.

Diddy also celebrated his 55th birthday behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. That celebration for the rapper was equally unglamorous, with breakfast options of fruit, cereal, breakfast cake and skim milk.

His lunch menu was similar to this year’s as he was offered pasta with marinara sauce, with a choice of meatballs or chickpea marinara. Inmates also received a garden salad with assorted dressings, whole wheat bread, fruit and a beverage.

For dinner, the rapper had the options of chicken fried rice or tofu fried rice. Black beans and carrots were also served, with more whole wheat bread and another beverage.

Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison on federal prostitution charges on Oct. 3. Judge Arun Subramanian also requested the court impose five years of supervised release and for Diddy to pay a $500,000 fine. The rapper was transferred to Fort Dix to serve out the rest of his sentence on Oct. 30.

His eight-week trial — where jurors heard dozens of witness testimonies — concluded on July 2. The jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The rapper was acquitted on the most serious charges against him — sex-trafficking and racketeering. After his sentencing, Diddy apologized in court to both of his ex-girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and “Jane.”

“I was out of control. I needed help, but I didn’t get the help,” he said. “I can make no excuse because I knew better. My mama taught me better. My faith taught me better. Because of my decisions I lost my freedom. I lost the opportunity to effectively raise my children and be there for my mother. I lost all my businesses. I lost my career. I totally lost my reputation. I lost my self-respect.”

“I’ve been humbled and broken to my core. I hate myself right now. Stripped down to nothing. I really am truly sorry for it all no matter what they say. I want to apologize to my seven children.”

National Women’s Soccer League defends athlete who failed genetic sex test as players clash over gender rules

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) put out a statement Tuesday addressing a sudden controversy involving a player who previously failed a genetic test.

The statement defended Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda, who was ruled ineligible to compete for Zambia in a 2022 World Cup-qualifying tournament after a test revealed Banda’s natural testosterone levels were above those allowed by the Confederation of African Football.

The statement also comes after Angel City FC’s Elizabeth Eddy published a New York Post op-ed last week calling for the NWSL to adopt a stricter gender eligibility policy.

“Barbra Banda is a top player in the NWSL. Barbra’s selection to the FIFPRO World XI, a distinction voted on exclusively by her peers from across the global game, is a testament to her extraordinary talent, relentless work ethic, and impact on our sports and league,” the statement said.

“Her contributions to the Orlando Pride and NWSL have been transformative. Any harassment or hateful attacks toward Barbra are unacceptable and have no place in our sport, league or communities. We stand unequivocally with Barbra and with every NWSL player.”

Meanwhile, the Orlando Pride put out a similar statement in defense of Banda at around the same time as the NWSL’s on Tuesday.

“Barbra Banda is a superb teammate, player and role model, and we are proud that she represents the Orlando Pride, our fans and our community. Both in Orlando and on the national stage, Barbra continues to shine, including most recently being named to her second-consecutive FIFPRO World 11, an award exclusively selected by her fellow peers across the globe,” the team said.

“We look forward to continuing to celebrate Barbra and her future accolades, and to supporting her journey as one of the many incredible athletes in our league.”

The statements incited mixed responses on social media.

Eddy’s op-ed sparked debate among fans and even garnered rebuke from her teammates.

Eddy argued in the article that the NWSL “must adopt a clear standard,” adding that only players “born with ovaries” should be allowed to play, following the standard in the Women’s Super League in the United Kingdom, or the league should adopt an SRY gene test, like World Athletics and World Boxing.

“Fairness and inclusion are core American values. Reasonable people can disagree about where to draw lines, but avoiding the conversation altogether by shutting out diverse views does not serve us. In fact, we owe it to current and future female athletes to solve this,” the 11-year veteran wrote.

Eddy’s Angel City FC teammates, Sarah Gorden and Angelina Anderson, addressed the op-ed in a press conference over the weekend.

“That article does not speak for this team in this locker room. I’ve had a lot of (conversations) with my teammates in the past few days and they are hurt and they are harmed by the article, and also, they are disgusted by some of the things that were said in the article and it’s really important for me to say that,” Gorden said on Friday.

“We don’t agree with the things written for a plethora of reasons, but mostly the undertones come across as transphobic and racist as well. The article calls for genetic testing on certain players and it has a photo of an African player as a headline. That’s very harmful, and to me, it’s inherently racist because to single out this community based on them looking or being different is absolutely a problem. As a mixed woman, with a Black family, I’m devastated by the undertones of this article.”

Anderson talked about what she believed the club stood for.

“For me personally, when I think of LA, and I think of Angel City, I think of a place that was founded upon inclusivity and love for all people – that’s what our locker room is, that what our staff is, that’s what our fan base is. Angel City is a place for everyone. It always will be. That’s how it was from the beginning, that’s how it will always be. Period,” she said.

“I think this situation, there’s an element of timing to it where this feels like another really big challenge that we have to go through as a team on top of an already really challenging year. And it’s definitely not the note that we as a group want to end on, and so I just want everyone to know that we’re doing our best in the locker room to preserve respect and belonging on this team and we look forward to ending the season on as positive of a note as possible.”

Jets stars react to shocking trades with emotional social media posts: ‘I’m sick’

The NFL trade deadline has passed, and all eyes are on the New York Jets, who sent away two All-Pro defensive stars, Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

While it doesn’t come as a surprise that the 1-7 Jets were sellers at the deadline, seeing two of the team’s key pieces on that side of the ball depart had former teammates reflecting on social media.

Running back Breece Hall, who reportedly requested a trade before the deadline, and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson both took to X to share their thoughts on the situation.

“Sick about my bruddas man,” Hall posted in a since-deleted tweet with a sad-faced emoji. “Happy for them but man Im sick rn.”

Hall was also posting memes before the deadline, which fans viewed as him stirring the pot with his own situation. That came after Gardner, who had just signed a four-year extension this offseason, was dealt to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for two first-round picks.

Williams, a three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

With those two gone, the Jets made it clear they are tearing down the roster to some degree, but they didn’t part ways with offensive stars like Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Meanwhile, Johnson, who was also posting memes in reaction to the news of Gardner and Williams being traded, was clearly devastated to see his teammates and friends leave the Jets.

After the deadline passed, he shared his thoughts, which included trusting the process and believing in the front office.

“I’d be lying if I said I was happy my brothers are gone because I’m not, I’m sick. But, I believe strongly in the organization, staff and my other brothers in the locker room. I said when I got drafted I wanted to be the reason or part of the reason this thing gets changed for the better, and that’s going to continue to be my outlook.

“I love this team and this fan base, and y’all will continue to get my all — my absolute best on and off the field. Let’s look onward and upward because better things are coming, and I give my word on that. Go Jets always (green heart emoji).”

UFC cuts fighter after sportsbooks flag ‘unusual’ betting activity on his first-round loss

Another sports betting controversy has hit professional sports, this time in mixed martial arts.

The UFC has cut fighter Isaac Dulgarian on Monday, which comes two days after a first-round submission loss to Yadier del Valle at Fight Night in Las Vegas, according to multiple reports.

“Like many professional sports organizations, UFC works with an independent betting integrity service to monitor wagering activity on our events,” the promotion told The New York Post in a statement. “Our betting integrity partner, IC360, monitors wagering on every UFC event and is conducting a thorough review of the facts surrounding the Dulgarian vs. del Valle bout on Saturday, November 1. We take these allegations very seriously, and along with the health and safety of our fighters, nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport.”

Unusual betting activity was flagged for Bulgarian’s fight. Dulgarian, who is now 7-2 in his professional UFC career, was a -250 favorite, but the line moved drastically to -154 leading up to the fight.

Multiple sportsbooks flagged the unusual activity and stopped taking any bets on it before the first-round bell rang. Caesars Sportsbook even offered refunds to anyone who bet on Dulgarian.

“Mobile customers with losing bets on the Dulgarian UFC fight will receive a cash credit within 24 hours (singles), or within 24 hours of the last leg being determine (Parlay/SGP/Super Parlay) should that bet have won without that leg included,” Caesars Sportsbook posted on X.

DraftKings also told The Post it is “aware of potential concerns” about the fight.

“We are working with our integrity monitors and will provide updates to customers as they become available.

Dulgarian, 29, lost by submission, but commentators Daniel Cormier and Michael Chiesa were confused what was happening, as they called Del Valle’s finish “white belt stuff,” believing it wasn’t the most complicated stuff.

Making Dulgarian’s situation more interesting are his comments about his belief that fighters should get a cut for bets on bouts.

Former ‘Bachelor’ host Chris Harrison finds Hollywood escape in Texas after controversy derailed career

Chris Harrison has found that “Austin is the new Hollywood” after fleeing Los Angeles.

Harrison moved to Austin, Texas, after permanently stepping away from his role as the host of “The Bachelor” franchise. The reality TV show host left the job in 2021 after defending contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who came under fire for attending a plantation-themed fraternity party years prior. The move turned out to be a blessing for Harrison, who has felt a sense of relief since leaving the dating show.

“I mean, what I love most about the new chapter is the fact that Austin is the new Hollywood, which means the opportunities are a plenty here,” he told People magazine.

“There is so much tech, music, food, entertainment, theater,” Harrison added. “It’s all happening here. And it reminds me of what Hollywood was built on, which is anything and everything is possible if everybody will just come in with an honest, open heart and mind and just wanna do some fun work together.”

Harrison bought an Austin-area home in 2020 after making his big move. Three years later, he married entertainment reporter Lauren Zima.

“We’ve met so many incredible people from all around the world, from all different industries that just want to collaborate and do great things,” he explained. “And it’s so exciting to be a part of.”

“The energy is truly palpable in this city right now, and it’s just fun to jump in and go with the flow.”

Harrison, who led “The Bachelor” and a handful of spinoff series for 19 years, said he has felt a sense of relief since stepping off the “merry-go-round” that his life was on at the time.

“You know, when you do something every single day for two decades, and it’s so popular around the world, there is a pressure to that, and there’s a spotlight and a microscope that you don’t even realize you’re under until you kinda get off that merry-go-round,” Harrison explained.

“And it was this kind of angst when I first got off, because I mean, ‘Oh, well, I gotta get back on. I gotta go back to work,’ or… And then I kind of took a deep breath, and you dropped your shoulders, and I think, you know, obviously falling in love definitely helped. Moving to Austin definitely helped kind of relieve that and realize, ‘Wow, there’s a whole other world out here to dive into.’ And so it has been a wonderful break and relief.”

Jennifer Lawrence isn’t afraid to jump on the plastic surgery trend taking over Hollywood.

Lawrence revealed she plans to get a boob job in November, after welcoming two children with husband, Cooke Maroney.

“Everything bounced back, pretty much, after the first one,” the “Hunger Games” star offered during an interview with The New Yorker. “Second one, nothing bounced back.”

Lawrence gave birth to her first son in 2021 and her second son in early 2025.

Jackman and Foster’s budding relationship was confirmed in January, over a year after he separated from his longtime wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.

Jackman finalized his divorce from Furness in June.

The two married in 1996, when Jackman was 27 and Furness was 40.

By the Numbers: Why trick-or-treaters may bag more gummy candy than chocolate this Halloween

Trick-or-treaters may find more fruity candy than chocolate among their Halloween handouts this year. That should be fine with younger consumers, who have been gravitating for years toward non-chocolate candies like gummies, freeze-dried treats and other sweets that come in a variety of shapes, colors and flavors.

Last year, 52% of the total volume of Halloween candy sold in the U.S. was made of chocolate, according to Dan Sadler, a principal for client insights at the market research company Circana. But in the 12 weeks ending Oct. 5, chocolate accounted for 44% of the Halloween candy sold in the U.S.

Prices may be part of it. Global cocoa prices more than quadrupled between January 2023 and January 2025 due to poor harvests in West Africa, where 70% of cocoa is produced. Chocolate candy is lot more expensive as a result.

Chocolate Halloween candy in the U.S. cost an average of $8.02 per pound in the 12 weeks ahead of Oct. 5, while non-chocolate candy cost an average of $5.77 per pound, Sadler said.

Here’s a look at Halloween candy by the numbers:

Giants’ Russell Wilson calls Broncos head coach Sean Payton ‘classless’ after postgame jab

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton gave New York Giants rookie Jaxson Dart his flowers after an epic come-from-behind win for the Broncos Sunday.

But Payton wanted to face the veteran Super Bowl champion quarterback the Giants have behind Dart, Russell Wilson.

“They found a little spark with that quarterback,” Payton said of Dart during his postgame press conference after Denver’s 33-32 victory. “I was talking to [Giants owner] John Mara not too long ago, and I said we were hoping that change would’ve happened long after our game.”

While Payton could’ve simply meant Dart gave his team problems — the Giants held a 26-8 lead late in the fourth quarter before a thrilling comeback — Wilson didn’t appreciate the words from his former Broncos coach.

These two have obvious history, and Wilson viewed his former head coach’s comments as “classless.”

“Classless… but not surprised… Didn’t realize you’re still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the media,” Wilson posted on X with some laughing emoji and his famous #LetsRide hashtag he used while a member of the Broncos from 2022-23.

Wilson’s “bounty hunting” comment is also a jab at Payton’s scandal while head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The NFL found Payton’s squad guilty of placing a bounty on targeted players, leading to the head coach’s season-long suspension in 2012 as part of the severe punishment from the league.

The relationship between Wilson and Payton was rocky, to say the least, after the former was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Broncos in 2022. It didn’t last long for Wilson. Payton benched him in 2023, and he was released during the 2024 offseason despite Denver taking on a whopping $85 million in dead money.

Wilson ended up going 11-19 in his starts for Denver with zero playoff appearances.

Wilson wasn’t happy with his benching in 2023, especially after he said the Broncos threatened to bench him earlier that year if he did not waive an injury guarantee in his contract. Wilson had $37 million guaranteed if he could not pass a physical on the fifth day of the new league year in March 2024.

Greg Penner, the Broncos’ owner and CEO, denied the team ever threatened Wilson. He said the franchise wanted to negotiate “in good faith” about contract adjustments, though Wilson said he would be getting the NFLPA involved. The NFLPA later sent a letter to the Broncos stating that any threat would be a violation of the league’s CBA.

Still being paid by the Broncos, Wilson signed a veteran minimum deal for one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants signed Wilson this past offseason, as well as Jameis Winston, to provide a veteran presence around Dart, who New York traded back in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to snag out of Ole Miss.

Head coach Brian Daboll made it clear all through training camp that Wilson was the starter for his team, but after three straight losses to open the season, the switch was made to Dart. Dart won his first NFL start in a massive upset over the Los Angeles Chargers, the Broncos’ AFC West nemesis, at MetLife Stadium in Week 4.

Dart and the Giants should’ve been victorious in Denver, too, but a collapse of epic proportions ensued with Wil Lutz drilling a game-winning field goal to cement the biggest comeback win this season in the NFL.

Mariska Hargitay’s family members, colleagues and fans still mispronounce her famous name

You’ve likely been pronouncing Mariska Hargitay’s name wrong.

Everyone’s favorite TV law enforcement officer confirmed fans, friends and even her own family haven’t quite mastered the pronunciation of her first name.

Hargitay revealed the correct way to say her name is “Muh-rish-kuh” during an appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast, “Good Hang.” According to Hargitay, the name Mariska is actually a nickname that means “Little Maria.”

“In Hungarian, the ‘ka’ or ‘ke’ at the end of the name is just like a little endearment,” she explained. “So the name is actually ‘Maria’ after my grandmother, both of them, Hungarian and Italian.”

“Who was it last night? I had a lunch yesterday – I had a brunch yesterday for my sister and my cousin was there,” she told Poehler.

“Your own cousin?” Poehler questioned.

“I’ve known him since 1994, and he kept calling me ‘Muh-ris-kuh.’”

To combat mispronunciation on the set of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Hargitay has her name written as “Marishhhhka.”

“I get called ‘Muh-ritz-uh,’ ‘Mar-see-kuh,’ ‘Mar-kis-kuh,’” she explained.

Hargitay joins a group of celebrities who have been speaking out about the mispronunciation of their names. Denzel Washington and Steve Buscemi have both attempted corrections recently.

Instead of “Denzell,” Washington’s name is actually pronounced “Denzull.”

Buscemi doesn’t actually know the correct way to actually pronounce his name, but has landed on “Boo-Semi” for his version.

Britney Spears unleashes on Kevin Federline for ‘attacking’ her in tell-all memoir

Britney Spears fired back at her ex-husband Kevin Federline ahead of the release of his memoir, “You Thought You Knew.”

Federline made multiple concerning allegations against Spears in the book, including that the pop star once punched their son in the face, Page Six reported.

As the release date for Federline’s book, Oct. 21, approaches, Spears has called out her ex for “constantly gaslighting” her. The “…Baby One More Time” singer also accused Federline of working to profit off her pain.

“To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain…” she wrote Oct. 16 on X. “Oh dear Jesus show me there is a God and I can too be loved unconditionally and not have to be so perfect cause it’s really interesting.”

Spears claimed Federline was “literally attacking” her “in his interviews.”

“Why is HE SO ANGRY,” she wrote, before adding, “and what’s scary is he’s convincing. It literally blows my mind the moments he stops before he cries are you f—ing serious …”

Spears noted that Federline’s memoir will likely “sell loads more” than her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me.”

“If you really love someone then you don’t help them by humiliating them,” she wrote. “What scared me was how serious and angry he got, people have no idea, it is way worse than anyone could imagine… the boy hates me and it is deep anger to literally say the things he is saying.”

In his memoir, Federline claimed he became concerned about Spears’ time with their two boys – Jayden and Preston – after their divorce due to her alleged erratic behavior.

However, Spears claimed she “pleaded” for a relationship with her two sons.

“The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting,” she wrote Oct. 15 on X. “I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life. Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves.”

D’Angelo, Grammy-winning R&B singer who became an icon with ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel),’ dies

D’Angelo, the Grammy-winning R&B singer recognized by his raspy yet smooth voice and for garnering mainstream attention with the shirtless “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” music video, has died. He was 51.

The singer, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, died Tuesday after a long bout with cancer, his family said in a statement.

It called him “a shining star of our family and has dimmed his light for us in this life,” adding that they are “eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.”

In his music, D’Angelo blended hip-hop grit, emphatic soul and gospel-rooted emotion into a sound that helped spearhead the neo-soul movement of the 1990s. Earlier this year, the Virginia native celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut studio album “Brown Sugar,” a platinum-selling offering that produced signature hits like “Lady” and the title track. The 1995 album earned him multiple Grammy nominations and cemented him as one of R&B’s most original new voices.

D’Angelo’s sultry vocal style — a mix of raspy texture and church-bred fluidity — set him apart from his peers. That voice became inseparable from the striking visuals of his 2000 single “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” The minimalist, shirtless music video became a cultural touchstone, igniting conversations around artistry, sexuality and vulnerability in Black male representation. The song earned him a Grammy for best male R&B vocal performance and propelled his sophomore album “Voodoo,” topping the Billboard 200 chart and winning the Grammy for best R&B album.

With an idiosyncratic spirit not unlike Prince, D’Angelo’s devotion was always to the craft — not the machinery around it. In a 2000 interview with The Associated Press, he spoke candidly about the cost of chasing commercial success.

“(Musicians) have gotten trapped into that mode of thinking marketable and commercial. That destroys art, that destroys the essence of what it is about,” he said. “You cannot, you cannot work like that. You cannot make music like that. That’s not what this is about.”

That same year, D’Angelo reflected on his need for solitude amid fame: “I used to hang out a lot, but now I’ve become more of a recluse,” he told AP. “I long for just peace and silence.”

Beyond his own catalog, D’Angelo’s artistry shined in collaborations. He memorably duetted with Lauryn Hill on the soulful ballad “Nothing Even Matters,” a highlight of her landmark 1998 album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” He also contributed to The Roots’ 1996 album “Illadelph Halflife” and was part of the supergroup Black Men United, which yielded one song: “U Will Know,” which D’Angelo wrote and co-produced, for the film “Jason’s Lyric” in 1994.

“I remember hearing your music for the first time… I said to myself damn whoever this is they are anointed,” Jamie Foxx said on social media. “Then when I finally got a chance to see you… Like everyone when they saw the most incredible music video of our time… I was blown away… I thought to myself I have to see this person in concert… I had my chance to see you at the house of blues… You came out and got right down to business… Your voice was silky and flawless… I was graciously envious of your style and your swag…”

Years before stepping back from public view, D’Angelo’s life and music were closely intertwined with Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone in the ’90s. The pair met while he was finishing “Brown Sugar” and bonded over their shared Southern roots and deep church upbringing. Stone contributed to the album and later collaborated with him on “Everyday,” a song from her 1999 debut album, “Black Diamond.”

Stone once described D’Angelo as her “musical soul mate,” to the AP in 1999, adding that their working relationship was “’like milk and cereal …. Musically, it was magic. It’s something that I have not been able to do with any other producer or musician.” They had a son together, the artist Swayvo Twain, born Michael Archer Jr.

Stone died earlier this year in a car crash. She was 63.

D’Angelo also has a daughter, Imani Archer, who is also a music artist.

In the years that followed, D’Angelo’s life became as defined by absence as by acclaim. After “Voodoo,” he withdrew from the spotlight for more than a decade, fueling speculation about personal struggles and creative battles. His long-awaited return came in 2014 with “Black Messiah,” credited to D’Angelo and The Vanguard. The urgent and politically charged album that arrived amid nationwide protests and helped usher in a wave of activist music responding to police killings of Black Americans and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The album debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and won him a Grammy for best R&B album, reaffirming his stature as a generational voice. Its standout single, “Really Love,” earned him another Grammy for best R&B song and earned a nomination for record of the year.

In May, D’Angelo withdrew from being a headliner for the 2025 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia due to “an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery (he) had earlier this year,” the artists shared in a statement. D’Angelo said he was advised the performance “could further complicate matters.”

Beyond his biggest singles, D’Angelo’s catalog includes fan favorites like “Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine,” “Cruisin’” and “Devil’s Pie.” His influence stretched far beyond the charts: he inspired a wave of artists including Maxwell, Alicia Keys and Frank Ocean.

Browns wide receiver David Bell, 24, retires after being ‘blindsided’ by off-field injury

Cleveland Browns wide receiver David Bell became the latest NFL player to announce an early retirement this week.

The 24-year-old announced his decision in a lengthy post on social media, saying that an “off-field injury” ultimately forced him into retirement. Bell added that continuing to play in the NFL would “literally risk life and limb.”

“Several months ago, I was blindsided by an off-field injury that was beyond my control, which put my football future in jeopardy. After consulting with medical experts and praying, I accept that continuing to play football would literally risk life and limb. Although it is the last thing I would otherwise want to do, with a heavy heart I am announcing my retirement.”

“Football gave me memories I’ll cherish forever and taught me how through focus, selflessness, and determination, the whole can be greater than the collection of individuals,” he continued. “Thanks to God for guiding me every step of the way and for the strength to chase this dream.”

Bell was drafted out of Purdue in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in 16 games, totaling 214 yards. He scored his first NFL touchdown the following season, which he finished with 167 yards and three touchdowns.

Bell’s 2024 season was cut short after he sustained a season-ending hip injury during Week 2, his last professional appearance. He opened the 2025 season on the Browns’ non-football injury list.

“Appreciate you, David. It’s been a pleasure having you be a part of our organization. Best wishes in this next chapter,” the Browns wrote in a post on X in response to Bell’s announcement.

Bell thanked the organization in his statement. He also thanked attorney Brad Sohn, a class-action and injury lawyer, for “making sure this never happens to anyone else again.” Sohn replied on X, saying, “One thing for sure. This will NOT happen again. Bet.”
