  • U2 releases Renee Good tribute song, ‘American Obituary’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Irish rock band U2 released a six-track EP on Wednesday, and its opening song is a tribute to Renee Good, the Minnesota woman who was fatally shot by a federal agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7.

U2 describes the EP, Days of Ash, as an immediate response to current events and features a track, called American Obituary, that calls for peace.

“Renee Good, born to die free. American mother of three. Seventh day, January. A bullet for each child, you see,” frontman Bono sings. “The colour of her eye. 930 Minneapolis. To desecrate domestic bliss. Three bullets blast, three babies kissed. Renee, the domestic terrorist?”

“America will rise against the people of the lie,” the chorus says.

“I am not mad at you, Lord,” the song continues. “You’re the reason I was there. Could you stop a heart from breaking, by having it not care? Could you stop a bullet in mid-air?”

Bono said American Obituary is “a song of fury” but “more than that a song of grief.”

“Not just for Renee but for the death of an America that at the very least would have had an inquiry into her killing … for her family as well as the credibility of law enforcement and the critical role they play in keeping the peace, keeping the citizenry safe,” he said in a special 40th anniversary edition of the band’s magazine, Propaganda.

Bono said he knows that Good’s family “have been praying for the ICE officer who took Renee’s life, while also praying for his family.”

“That’s the kind of people they are and Renee was the very best of us … better than the best of us,” he added.

“Renee didn’t just believe in kindness; she lived it, fully and fiercely,” Becca Good, her partner, said in a statement released with the project. “She believed every person deserved the same compassion, care and dignity regardless of who they were.”

Good’s parents and siblings said they hope the song encourages reflection and unity.

“It’s an incredible honor to have the talent and impact of U2 spreading the message of peace in Renee’s name,” the statement read. “We certainly feel the urgency of the country’s situation reflected in the band’s powerful call for change and coming together.”

Antonio Romanucci, a lawyer representing Good’s family in a civil case connected to her death, said the tribute reflects a broader message.

“This deeply moving tribute to Renee’s life and legacy eloquently captures what so many people are feeling right now, and U2’s epic ability to advocate for peace in the world is unmatched. We believe this call to action by the band will move all who hear it,” he said in a statement.

The band said they were inspired by the people “fighting on the front lines of freedom” and the project marks U2’s first major release of new songs since 2017’s Songs of Experience.

“These songs were impatient to be out in the world,” Bono said. “They are songs of defiance and dismay, of lamentation. Songs of celebration will follow, we’re working on those now.”

U2 follows in the footsteps of other musical artists, like Bruce Springsteen, who have condemned the killing of Good and called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to “get the f–k out of Minneapolis.”

During an appearance at the Light of Day Winter Festival in his home state in January, the 76-year-old rocker dedicated his 1978 song The Promised Land to Good.

During his introduction of the song, Springsteen said: “I wrote this song as an ode to American possibility. It was about a both beautiful but flawed country that we are, and the country that we could be. Right now, we are living through incredibly critical times. The United States — the ideals and the values for which it stood for the past 250 years — is being tested as it’s never been in modern times.”

Springsteen then turned his attention to recent news, adding: “If you believe in the power of the law and that no one stands above it, if you stand against heavily armed masked federal troops invading an American city, using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens, if you believe you don’t deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest, send a message to this president as the mayor of that city has said, ICE should get the f–k out of Minneapolis.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Springsteen was referring to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who said during a press conference: “I have a message for ICE. Get the f–k out of Minneapolis.”

“So this song is for you, and the memory of the mother of three and American citizen Renee Good,” Springsteen said before launching into The Promised Land.

In mid-February, border czar Tom Homan said ICE operations in Minnesota were coming to an end.

  • Hugh Hefner’s widow alleges his foundation kept thousands of sexual photos – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Crystal Hefner, the widow of the late Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner, is working to keep thousands of intimate images in his scrapbooks and journals private.

Crystal, 39, filed regulatory complaints with the attorneys general of California and Illinois, alleging that the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation mishandled sensitive private documents. According to Crystal, the materials include scrapbooks containing explicit images of women. She also alleges that some of the images are of underage girls.

Crystal, who is being represented by high-profile lawyer Gloria Allred, said that the images did not appear in Playboy magazines.

Allred said Crystal was removed as the chief executive officer of the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation after she voiced concerns over publishing the private scrapbooks and diary.

5 facts you may not know about Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner

“My focus is on how Hugh Hefner’s personal scrapbooks chronicle private moments that took place behind closed doors,” Crystal said during a press conference on Feb. 17.

    Story continues below advertisement

“There are serious and unresolved concerns about the scope of what these books contain. The materials span decades, beginning in the 1960s, and may include images of girls who were underage at the time and could not consent to how their images would be retained or controlled.”

Crystal Hefner (L), widow of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, and attorney Gloria Allred hold a press conference to announce steps they’re taking to protect sexual images and information about women in Hefner’s personal scrapbooks and diary in Los Angeles on Feb. 17, 2026.

Crystal claimed that many of the scrapbooks “may also contain images of women who did not consent to their images being taken in the first place.”

“The scrapbooks include nude images, images taken before and after sexual activity, and other deeply intimate moments. They contain intimate material involving women who are now mothers, grandmothers, professionals and private citizens who have spent decades building their lives with no idea these images were still being hoarded,” she continued.

“I believe they include women, and possibly girls, who never agreed to lifelong private possession of their naked images, and who have no transparency into where their photos are, how they are being stored, or what will happen to them next.”

    Story continues below advertisement

She said that she is “deeply worried about these images getting out” due to “artificial intelligence, deepfakes, digital scanning, online marketplaces and data breaches.”

“A single security failure could devastate thousands of lives,” she added.

“This is not about money. I am seeking dignity, safety and the destruction of non-consensual intimate materials so that exploitation does not continue under the banner of philanthropy. Thousands of women may be affected. This is a civil rights issue. Women’s bodies are not property, not history, and not collectibles. And no organization should be allowed to claim the language of civil rights while denying women their most basic one: the right to control their own bodies and images,” Crystal concluded.

Allred alleged the foundation has in its possession “3,000 personal scrapbooks containing thousands of nude images of women as well as Hefner’s diary, containing highly personal information regarding his sexual exploits, including names of women he slept with, notes describing the sex acts that they performed and in some instances even information tracking women’s menstrual cycles.”

Allred said that they are asking the attorneys general to “initiate a prompt and thorough investigation of the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation’s actions.”

“Crystal is especially concerned that these scrapbooks could contain images of minor girls. Moreover, Crystal is also concerned that some of the images in the scrapbooks may have been taken without the informed consent of the adult women depicted, such as while they were intoxicated,” Allred added.

The Hugh M. Hefner Foundation was established in 1964 “to embolden those who rebelled against outdated viewpoints and pushed forward new ones,” according to its website.

However, now the non-profit organization says that it “supports and funds today’s pioneers, defending civil rights and liberties, with special emphasis on First Amendment rights and rational sex and drug policies.”

The foundation has not made any comments regarding Crystal and Allred’s claims as of this writing.

Hugh Hefner died of natural causes on Sept. 27, 2017, at the age of 91. He helped usher in the 1960s sexual revolution with his groundbreaking magazine, around which he built a multi-million-dollar business empire.

Hefner was married three times — in 1949, 1989 and most recently in 2012 to Crystal.

Crystal opened up days after the death of her late husband, saying, “I haven’t been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences.”

“I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief,” she added.

Crystal called her late husband “an American hero” and “a pioneer.”

“A kind and humble soul who opened up his life and home to the world. I felt how much he loved me. I loved him so much. I am so grateful. He gave me life. He gave me direction. He taught me kindness. I will feel eternally grateful to have been by his side, holding his hand, and telling him how much I love him,” she said.

  • ‘Rehab Addict’ cancelled after host Nicole Curtis caught using racial slur – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

HGTV has cancelled its long-running home restoration series Rehab Addict after its host, star Nicole Curtis, was caught using a racial slur while filming the series.

A video of Curtis using the n-word while filming the show was posted by Radar Online on Feb. 11, the day before Season 9 was supposed to return after Curtis previously made an “executive decision” to shelve the episodes following the release of the first two episodes in July 2025.

“What the f–k is that I just said?” Curtis said after using the racial slur. “Nick, you gotta, you gotta, can you kill that? F–k my life.”

After the clip of Curtis was released, HGTV said it had removed the series from all HGTV platforms, including HBO Max and Discovery+.

“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict,” the network said in a statement to Variety. “Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms.”

“We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace,” the network added.

Once it was announced that Rehab Addict would be ending after nine seasons, Curtis took to her Instagram Stories to address the clip, writing, “There is more to this, but my family comes first and I need to be mom right now more than anything else.”

“I will take the time to be as I’ve always been with you, transparent and honest. TMZ called me as I had just turned my phone on after being at school — I said this briefly — but there is more,” she wrote, before sharing a screenshot of her text conversation with TMZ.

“Regarding HGTV, I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is,” she wrote in her statement.

“I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone,” her statement continued. “As discussed, I’m a mom and I was doing mom things all day and unplugged. I realize my shows were airing, but my family is my priority and I’m just catching up to all this now.”

  • Tate McRae responds to backlash over Team USA Olympics ad | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Canadian pop star Tate McRae, 22, is facing backlash over her appearance in an ad promoting Team USA ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy.

In the ad, the Calgary-born singer is seen asking an owl for directions to Italy, then mentions only Team USA athletes before throwing in a line about the Super Bowl.

Following its release, commentators questioned why she would appear in content supporting American athletes over her native country.

The Nobody’s Girl singer responded to critics in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of herself as a small child waving a Canadian flag with the caption, “y’all know I’m Canada down.”

“What in the treason is this Tate?” a person said.

“The absolute ick every Canadian just felt. In 2026… what were you and your team thinking?” one user commented.

“Arguably the most Alberta move imaginable,” another response reads.

Others were less critical of the ad, noting that McRae had spent some time living in the U.S. Some pointed out her age.

“Let’s remember that this young woman is only 22 years old. She’s been living in California for the past five years, and it’s natural for her to make mistakes,” a comment reads.

“Good for her! y’all weird for getting your feelings hurt over something like this. she literally lives in america [sic], stop being haters,” one person said.

“Love this!! Get that bag girl…. Who cares how you get a payday!! Love it,” another comment says.

In recent weeks, McRae’s home province of Alberta has seen growing calls from separatists to secede from Canada and join the U.S.

(McRae has not publicly commented on the separatist push in Alberta.)

Last month, one of the leaders of the Alberta separatist movement, Jeffrey Rath, said on social media that he looks forward to “meeting with US Treasury officials next month to discuss our feasibility study regarding a 500 billion USD line of credit to support the transition to a free and independent Alberta.”

In January, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also appeared to throw his support behind the Alberta separatist movement when he said the province’s vast oil reserves make it “a natural partner for the U.S.”

Similarly, U.S. President Donald Trump has made no secret of his desire for Canada to become the 51st state, which he has mentioned repeatedly.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Albertans are very independent people,” Bessent said. “People are talking. People want sovereignty. They want what the U.S. has got.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said last week that he expects the U.S. administration to “respect Canadian sovereignty,” adding that he was “always clear with President Trump to that effect.”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith echoed Carney’s sentiments, saying she expected U.S. leaders to leave discussions about Alberta’s “democratic process” to Albertans and Canadians.

McRae grew up as a dancer in Calgary before breaking out as a pop star with the viral success of her song One Day, which has more than 40 million views on YouTube.

Her 2020 hit You Broke Me First established her as a prominent musician and performer.

  • Alleged ransom notes sent to news outlets as Nancy Guthrie search enters 4th day – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Police in Arizona say they are investigating the legitimacy of several suspected ransom notes sent to media outlets around the area where Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie — who hosts NBC’s morning show Today — was allegedly abducted.

At least three different media outlets, TMZ and two of CNN’s Tucson affiliates, KOLD and KGUN, reported receiving the purported ransom notes demanding millions in bitcoin for Guthrie’s release.

Police have not determined whether the notes are legitimate, but told reporters on Tuesday that they are being taken seriously.

    Story continues below advertisement

“When the note comes to us, it’s like any piece of evidence. You give it to us. You give us a lead. We’re going to look at every aspect of that lead and work it as a lead,” Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

Nanos said TMZ reported receiving the note before alerting authorities.

The outlets that reported receiving the ransom note said it contained specific information about the inside of Guthrie’s home, but did not provide any further details. Nanos has not confirmed whether the contents of the notes match the crime scene. He said that the notes had been shared with Savannah Guthrie.

In a new interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz on Today on Wednesday morning, Nanos said, “We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here.”

“We want to save her,” he continued.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday afternoon, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it was aware of reports of ransom notes and that it was working closely with the FBI.

    Story continues below advertisement

Investigators believe Guthrie, 84, was taken from her home in Tucson, Ariz., against her will.

Nanos said Guthrie has limited mobility and noted other factors indicating she did not leave on her own, but declined to elaborate further.

Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind, he added.

“This is not dementia-related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs daily medication.

Nanos said at a news conference Sunday night that Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area.

Her family reported her missing around noon Sunday. The sheriff said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Nancy Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

Nanos told CBS News that security footage from Guthrie’s home revealed nothing because it was likely auto-deleted after a certain period. It will have to be obtained via forensic means, he said.

A search using dogs, drones and supported by border patrol agents and a homicide unit was triggered over the weekend but has since been pulled back, Nanos said. It is not standard for the homicide team to get involved in such cases, he added.

“This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we located just looking at the scene,” Nanos said Sunday. He was not ruling out foul play.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said on Monday.

A small amount of blood was found inside the Tucson home, a law enforcement source told CBS News. As of this writing, it has not been confirmed whose blood was at the scene. Tests are currently being conducted to determine its origin.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday about her mother’s disappearance.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

  • ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie’s mother abducted from home, police believe – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

New details have been released in the investigation into the disappearance of Today host Savannah Guthrie’s mother as the search enters its third day.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night at her home in the Tucson, Ariz., area, where she lived alone and was reported missing Sunday. Authorities believe she was taken against her will.

“We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC Nightly News.

“I can’t think of the last time where, in the middle of the night in someone’s bed, an 84-year-old woman disappeared on us,” he added.

Nanos clarified that he “meant that figuratively” when referring to Nancy being abducted from her bed.

    Story continues below advertisement

“[Nanos] did not mean that she was literally taken from her bed,” the sheriff’s department told NBC News.

Nanos confirmed investigators found DNA evidence at Nancy’s home, which is being treated as “a crime scene.”

Authorities found blood inside Nancy’s home, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing law enforcement sources.

“We took some samples that we hope will have enough of a DNA profile,” Nanos told the Today show on Feb. 3. “That will give us some identification as to what we’re looking at.”

He added that it could take several more days before investigators receive anything conclusive from the DNA samples.

Nanos said that the search for Nancy is “a race against time” and hopes “that window hasn’t closed” as the investigation continues.

“If she’s alive right now, her meds are vital. I can’t stress that enough. It’s been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us if she doesn’t have those meds, it can become fatal,” Nanos said.

The missing senior has limited mobility, and officials do not believe she left on her own. Nanos said she is of sound mind.

“We know she didn’t just walk out of there, that we know,” Nanos said during a Feb. 2 press conference.

“There are other things at the site, at the scene, that indicate there was a… she did not leave on her own.”

Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Kevin Adger told the Times that investigators believe Nancy was “taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night.”

“Detectives are looking into a possible kidnapping or abduction,” he added.

Investigators found signs of forced entry at Nancy’s home, a person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

They reportedly found specific evidence in the home showing there was a nighttime kidnapping, the person told the outlet. Several of Nancy’s personal items, including her cellphone, wallet and car, were still there after she disappeared.

Surveillance video from nearby homes is being analyzed by investigators. They are working to analyze data from cellphone towers. Police are reviewing information from licence plate cameras in the area, according to the source, who was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the case and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.

On Tuesday, for the second day, Today opened with Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, but her daughter was not at the anchor’s desk.

On Monday night, Savannah shared a post on Instagram, writing, “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment … bring her home.”

A non-profit group that works with the sheriff’s department in southern Arizona called 88-Crime has offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the person or people involved in Nancy’s disappearance.

  • ‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother missing, home declared ‘crime scene’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Speaking during a news conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said there are signs at the home indicating Nancy Guthrie did not leave on her own.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said.

Asked to explain why investigators believe it’s a crime scene, Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things that indicated she did not leave on her own, but declined to further elaborate.

The sheriff said Nancy Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind. “This is not dementia-related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said. He said she needs her daily medication.

  • How mom updates her neighbors on newborn’s arrival melts hearts

    [ad_1]

A new mom found an adorable way to keep her neighbors up to date on the arrival of her baby via the door cam—and the footage has melted hearts across the internet.

Emma-Kate Townsend, 22, welcomed her son, Cooper, on December 14, 2025, when he was born five weeks early. There were also some false alarms which meant Townsend and her husband had to rush to the hospital to be sure. Every time they left and returned, it was caught on the neighbor’s door camera, so Townsend couldn’t resist giving them updates.

Townsend, who resides in Georgia, explained to Newsweek that she’d never met her neighbors (despite living there for 10 months) but she came up with the idea to speak to them through the door cam “as a joke.” She presumed the neighbors would never see the footage, but to her amazement, they saw each and every one of her messages.

“We hadn’t met them before as our paths never crossed, but on Christmas Eve we came home to a pleasant surprise: a gift basket at our door,” Townsend said. “It included a note, baby lotion and wash, swaddle, Nello super calm drink mix, hair claw clips, a $25 DoorDash card and a $25 Starbucks card. I jumped in excitement reading their card which said, ‘thank you for letting us be a part of your journey, the small clips made our day!’ It was incredibly kind of them.”

The neighbors were so excited for Townsend and her husband, and they gladly shared the door cam footage with the couple. The clips show the expectant couple coming home from the hospital after a false alarm, leaving again before Cooper was born, and of course, arriving home with their bundle of joy.

Townsend was overjoyed when she watched the footage which marked such an important chapter of her life. She shared the clips on TikTok (@ek.townsend) in January and the video has gone viral with over 363,300 views and more than 68,300 likes at the time of writing.

“What started as a joke has turned into something I will cherish forever. Our neighbors were so excited for us and told us that our baby is already so loved already. That comment meant the world to me especially coming from our neighbors we had never met yet,” Townsend said.

The online reaction to the video is beyond anything Townsend expected. She has loved hearing from so many people around the world and feels so much support from everyone who has reached out.

Townsend is adjusting well to motherhood and loves being Cooper’s mom, telling Newsweek that she feels “blessed every day.”

She said: “Motherhood is everything I have ever dreamed of. I am just so grateful for our neighbors, family, and the support from everyone online. It’s been really special to see so much positivity come from sharing clips of such meaningful moments.”

Many TikTok users took to the comments to praise the adorable door cam footage. One person wrote: “this is so precious.”

Another comment reads: “THIS IS SO SWEET. ‘False alarm again’ made me laugh though.”

While one TikTok user replied: “Love this and your sweet neighbors!”

  • Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump heritage site enjoys boost after shout out on ‘The Pitt’ | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

A UNESCO World Heritage Site in Alberta is enjoying a recent uptick in interest spurred by a shout out on a popular American television show — and its head of marketing hopes that curiosity translates into a bustling summer season.

The site Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump was mentioned in a recent episode of the Golden Globe-winning TV medical drama The Pitt.

In it, Dr. Michael (Robby) Robinavitch, played by actor Noah Wyle, announces he’s going on sabbatical to the landmark in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

“I’ve never seen the badlands,” he says in the episode that aired Jan. 8.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is about 185 kilometres south of Calgary. It was used for thousands of years by Indigenous people to channel bison herds and send the animals stampeding over an 11-metre-high cliff to be killed and harvested.

    Story continues below advertisement

The interpretive centre of cascading floors built into the sandstone cliff explores Blackfoot culture, local ecology, and archeological finds, and leads visitors to a cliff top trail.

Quinton Crow Shoe, who leads marketing at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, said staff are hearing some visitors say the show triggered their curiosity.

“As a result of that mention, they decided to take the trek off the beaten path,” he said in an interview.

With the show, he said their social media and email inboxes lit up.

“I didn’t realize the magnitude of that show. And, the mention itself brings a lot of awareness and curiosity,” Crow Shoe said. “So, we appreciate it, and we’re having some fun with it.”

Although it was designated a World Heritage Site in 1981, the interpretive centre will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. It sees about 60,000 visitors a year.

    Story continues below advertisement

Crow Shoe said the buzz around the buffalo jump isn’t fading away, and he hopes the modest bump in recent interest translates into an increase in crowds and motor coach tours once the peak season hits, from about May through to September.

Other promotions — such as discounts through the national Canada Strong Pass — have also had a positive effect on the gate, he said.

Crow Shoe noted that Head-Smashed-In is part of a cluster of attractions in southern Alberta — from Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park in the badlands to Waterton Lakes National Park where the mountains begin — that draw visitors to explore as much of the area as possible.

“We always look at being successful in terms of supporting one another.”

Provincial marketing agency Travel Alberta took advantage by releasing a promotional video with the TV show’s characters superimposed on the background of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump’s cliffs.

And Alberta Culture Minister Tanya Fir posted the TV clip to social media, adding “Dr. Robby is Alberta bound!”

“We are proud to see how Alberta’s history, stories and cultural landmarks continue to leave a lasting impression on audiences around the world,” Fir wrote.

  • ‘Landman’ season 3: what we know about Taylor Sheridan’s plans

    [ad_1]

Billy Bob Thornton says he remains completely in the dark about what comes next for Landman.

Speaking in December 2025, he explained that creator Taylor Sheridan shares very little about upcoming storylines, even with the cast.

Thornton said he doesn’t “know anything” about Season 3 yet in a recent interview with Men’s Journal.

“Taylor plays it very close to the vest,” he said. “He doesn’t tell any of us what he’s up to. He’ll probably tell me, maybe after I get the first script. Then he’ll tell me a few things that are going to happen.”

That lack of insight reflects the wider picture around the recently confirmed third season of the hit Paramount+ series. While the studio officially renewed the show in December 2025, it has not released any plot details, cast lists or timelines for when production will begin and what fans can expect.

Still, the series’ recent performance and its consistent release pattern can provide early indications of what could follow. Here is everything that we know about Landman Season 3, so far.

    What Is ‘Landman’ About?

Landman, created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace and inspired by Wallace’s podcast Boomtown, focuses on the oil industry in Texas.

At its center is Tommy Norris, played by Thornton, a petroleum landman and company fixer who becomes president of M‑Tex Oil in the series. The show explores the political, financial and personal pressures tied to the region’s boom‑and‑bust energy economy, alongside Tommy’s attempts to balance the demands of the job with his responsibilities at home.

The series premiered on Paramount+ on November 17, 2024. It was renewed in March 2025, with Season 2 debuting almost exactly a year later, on November 16, 2025.

Its strong viewership helped secure the Season 3 renewal soon afterward.

Paramount+ said the Season 2 premiere became the most‑watched debut for any original series on its streaming service, drawing 9.2 million streaming views in its first two days.

That reportedly represented a 262 percent increase from the show’s Season 1 opener.

What Do We Know About ‘Landman’ Season 3?

Showrunner Wallace has said the series has a lot of runway but that nothing is changing about its direction for now.

Still, Paramount+ has not yet confirmed which actors will return for Season 3, which it officially announced on December 5, 2025.

Most of the Season 2 cast is expected to come back, including Thornton (Tommy), Demi Moore (Cami), Ali Larter (Angela), Michelle Randolph (Ainsley), Jacob Lofland (Cooper), Paulina Chávez (Ariana), Colm Feore (Nate/Nathan), James Jordan (Dale), Kayla Wallace (Rebecca) and Sam Elliott (T.L.).

Paramount+ has not given a release date for Season 3, and an update is unlikely before late summer.

The streamer announced Season 2’s premiere date in August 2025, suggesting a similar schedule for the next reveal. Based on previous timing, Season 3 would likely arrive in November 2026 or sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

Sadly, for fans there is no official synopsis out yet, and even the cast appears to be waiting for details.

For now, viewers can continue watching Landman Season 2 on Paramount+. All episodes of Season 1 are also available on the streaming platform.

  • TikToks & Lip Locks: Mystery Woman Identified From Desmond Scott’s Alleged Spit-Swapping Shenanigans Amid Kristy Scott Divorce Filing

    [ad_1]

Whomst? Well, now we seemingly know because the TikToker my might move fast, but the internet moves even faster!

The ink was barely dry on Kristy Scott’s divorce filing when a video seemingly showed Desmond Scott popping out and packing on the PDA with a new woman two days later. Internet investigators have been speculating about who was straddling and smooching the social media star ever since.

    Source: Unique Nicole / Getty

TMZ reports sources close to the situation identified the blonde bombshell as Marissa Springer. The 24-year-old is a Houston-based model and student on her way to an MBA at UH Bauer. As BOSSIP previously reported, Desmond and Marissa were allegedly spotted getting hot and heavy in a booth of the Houston hotspot Sante. He has yet to comment on it, but his fans have had plenty to say.

The not-so-sneaky link raised questions about the timeline of the Scott’s 11-year marriage ending. In Kristy’s divorce documents, she claimed that Desmond’s infidelity ruined any chances of reconciliation for the estranged couple, who went from high school sweethearts to married with two children.

The next day, Desmond released a statement that admitted he “made choices that I am not proud of” after he requested a separation “towards the end of 2025.” That was only a few weeks ago so fans wondered if the woman from the make-out video was in the picture before the divorce filing.

Sources Say Marissa Springer Just Met Desmond Scott The Night Of The Video

The anonymous insiders claim that Marissa only met Desmond Sunday night through a mutual friend. She reportedly had no idea about his TikTok titan status and assumed he was single at the time.

The video was spicy for some strangers, but the sources claim the puckered up pair instantly hit it off shortly before the kiss. Once a good bit of liquor hit their systems, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

With Marissa’s Bachelor’s degree in marketing, this business baddie is no stranger to going viral. However, she’s about to reach another level of social media fame after this spontaneous entanglement.

It’s unclear whether this was just one-time random run-in or if we’ll see her keep some couples content going with Desmond.

Meanwhile, Kristy revealed that she’s moving on with a new look, but not moving out of the massive and lavish home the former couple just built. “Same address,” she captioned the serious of stunning snaps in a skintight red dress and sleek bob. Fans joked that nothing shows a woman is over it like a haircut.

  • Thanks, Trap Celina! Cardi Calmly Reacts To Celina Powell’s Leaked Recording Of Offset Allegedly Threatening To Shoot Stefon Diggs–‘I’m Actually Thankful’

    [ad_1]

    Source:

Cardi B is calmly reacting to THAT leaked recording of her estranged husband allegedly threatening to shoot her new boo “in the knee” seemingly to derail his Patriots-playing career.

Her comments come just one month after a suspicious video of her estranged husband, Offset, sprawled out in bed with infamous Instagram model Celina Powell, went viral and sent social media into detective mode. It also comes on the heels of a new video leaked by Powell in which Offset threatened to shoot the rapper’s baby daddy in the “knee.”

During an X Spaces session on January 12, Cardi made it clear that fans waiting for a fiery response to the drama shouldn’t hold their breath. Instead, she revealed that the viral clips actually gave her something unexpected: clarity.

“A lot of people been waiting for some type of response. Actually, no. Is the total opposite. I’m actually thankful for certain information. I’ve been expressing to people behind the scenes that somebody is using different people as a mouthpiece to spread misinformation about me, about my relationship, and various different platforms,” the mother of three said during the X Spaces session, according to a video shared by BardisMedia on Jan. 12.

Cardi B claimed she was “getting harassed” by someone who was determined to spread lies about her career and personal life.

The “Up” hitmaker went on to allege that she had been “getting harassed” by someone for “a very long time,” claiming the “obsessed” individual was determined to tear her down. Still, Cardi told fans she refused to let the chaos distract her from what really mattered: her career and her upcoming tour.

“A lot of crazy, weird things has been happening behind the scenes, just like sometimes, like I even have nightmares, because when somebody is this obsessed with you and wants to ruin you, you don’t know what they want from you—not caring about them, not bothering them, and they still bothering you. It freaks you out,” the Bronx native admitted before pivoting to business.

“Let’s talk about my tour. Things are turning out beautifully, and I want my fans to not ever get discouraged. Because this is what motherf–ers do. They try to plant a seed, hoping that it grow to discourage people to not like my music, not want to buy things for my tour, but everything is coming out great, and I don’t know how many times they’re gonna be tired of having egg in ya’ll f—ing face.”

Celina Powell said the NSFW video with Offset was made as collateral for the money he allegedly owed her. Shared video of him threatening to shoot Stefon Diggs in the “knee.”

Naturally, Cardi B’s comments reignited conversation online, especially given the timing. As previously reported, on Dec. 2, 2025, Celina Powell, known for her headline-grabbing antics, posted a video of herself in bed with Offset. The clip showed the rapper fast asleep as Powell repeatedly zoomed in on his face, seemingly determined to document her suspicious rendezvous with the hitmaker. Offset, however, appeared fast asleep and completely unaware of the recording.

In the caption, Powell hinted that more had gone on than just napping.

“Made a tape last night & all u heard was him in the video lol Offset you sleepy boy,” she wrote.

Then, in January, Powell escalated matters with another explosive claim involving the former Migos rapper. In a now-deleted Instagram Story, she alleged that Offset had threatened to shoot Cardi B’s boyfriend, NFL star Stefon Diggs, and that he refused to repay a $15,000 sum she said he owed her.

“If ANYTHING happens to me, OFFSET did it!” Powell wrote, according to a Jan. 10 post shared by The Shade Room. “Tired of this grown man threatening me almost every day and got me living in fear cuz he owes me $15K+ I tried to get my money back for weeks, and all I’ve gotten is threats…”

The InstaBaddie also shared a video that captured Offset on a FaceTime call with her, threatening to “beat,” “strip,” and shoot Diggs in the “knee.”

Powell later expanded on those allegations during an appearance on the 2 Girls From Mars podcast earlier this month. Speaking with host Milian Millie, she detailed what she described as a three-week whirlwind involving Offset, which allegedly ended with her owing $15,000. She claimed the rapper, amid his divorce from Cardi B, was financially struggling and emotionally spiraling, even referencing a video of him allegedly ranting about wanting to shoot Stefon Diggs.

According to Powell, she agreed to meet Offset at a casino with hundreds of dollars taken from her safe, money she says totaled $15,000, but never got it back. The controversial bed video, she claimed, was posted as collateral after she was left unpaid.

So, what exactly is going on here? We’re still trying to piece it all together. Thoughts?

  • Cephus Scheming Scandal: Celina Powell Claims Offset Threatened To Jump Her & Shoot Cardi B’s Baby Daddy Stefon Diggs

    [ad_1]

Trap Celina strikes again…or did she get trapped? Celina Powell is still exposing Offset for allegedly threatening to shoot Cardi B’s baby daddy, Stefon Diggs, and getting the pillow talk tattler jumped over $15,000 he owes her.

    Source: Paras Griffin/Thaddeus McAddams/Kathryn Riley

On Instagram, Celina claimed, “If ANYTHING happens to me, OFFSET did it!” After the shocking clips and receipts she revealed, fans suspect the same is true about Stefon. In another post, she added, “Tired of this grown man threatening me almost everyday and got me living in fear cuz he owes me $15K+ I tried to get my money back for weeks and all I’ve gotten is threats…”

IKYFL! It’s giving that the “Handsome & Wealthy” days are long gone. We knew more mess was probably coming after Celina put Offset on blast after she “put him to sleep,” but this is wild, even for the WikiLeaks of sneaky links.

As BOSSIP previously reported, Celina caught Offset slipping with a now-deleted video of them in bed together. This is nothing new for Celina, who previously exposed celebs like Akon and Snoop Dogg. However, it was a wild choice for Offset to seemingly hook up with the woman who already faked a pregnancy with him while he was still with soon-to-be ex-wife, Cardi B.

In the days since the viral video, Celina went all in to call out Offset about a $15,000 debt. Why and how was Trap Celina the one tricking and getting trapped in this entanglement?

Well, Celina spilled all the tea about what went down with Offset, his baby mama/daddy drama, and the alleged threats and restraining order against him.

See what Celina Powell said about the Offset saga in her own words after the flip!

Celina Powell Reveals How Offset Got Her $15K & Kept Begging For More Before She Exposed The Video Of Him

No matter how bad you think Offset’s sneaky link with Celina Powell was, she claims it was worse! On her 2 Girls From Mars podcast, she told co-host Milian Millie all about her three-week whirlwind with Offset. She revealed how down bad he is amid his divorce from Cardi B and a video of the rapper crashing out about wanting to shoot Stefon Diggs.

In an episode titled “Offset Robbed Celina Powell *Receipts*,” she revealed that something was suspicious from his random first IG call at 4 a.m. Not only did they have past beef, but she says the conversation began with him asking her how much money she has. She said he called the task “a test” of her loyalty. Flag on the play!

Celina said she agreed to meet Offset at a casino with all the hundreds in her safe, which added up to $15,000. What part of the game is this? She went back to sleep at home after he “lost it all,” only to show texts of him asking for more money hours later.

    Don’t do it! Reconsider!

Celina Powell Says Offset Continued Asking For More Money While He Gave Another Woman Multiple Bags: “He’s Pimping Me!”

For their next link at a hotel, Celina claims he tried to make her pay for the room and his Uber to meet her. Following that hookup, she recorded the now-viral video of Offset sleeping. However, she swore she had no plans to expose him until he continued to play with her money. In fact, it was the “Clout” star’s idea that he suggested as collateral for paying Celina back.

In the OnlyFans creator’s mind, that was “her man,” so she let the steep debt slide with the E&J-drinking deviant. She revealed screenshots of him only reaching out to her on Christmas Eve to demand more money on PayPal. Celina also showed a screen recording from Offset’s finsta with his children playing with racks of cash, so she still somehow expected to be next on Santa’s list.

Instead, the model saw Offset lavish another woman with four Birkin bags and diamonds. “Oh, my God! He’s like pimping me,” Celina said, realizing she’s “paying for sex” while Offset spoiled someone else.

See how Celina’s Offset saga turned into threats about shooting Stefon Diggs in the knee, bankruptcy, and eight-figure losses after the jump!

Celina Powell’s Video Shows Offset Talking About Getting Stefon Diggs “Shot In The Knee”

Several hookups later, Celina still didn’t secure the bag, but she claimed dinero demands from her “man” kept coming. When confronted about the missing Kiari coins and all the flexing online, she said Offset admitted he’s taking more Ls than Drake, both in and out of the casino.

The conversation turned to Offset’s personal drama, and he called Cardi’s newborn with Stefon “a bastard,” according to Celina. She also announced the “breaking news” that “Cardi has a restraining order against Offset,” and he isn’t allowed to talk to the kids. He allegedly uses calls from his other daughter as a workaround to find out what Cardi’s eldest, Kulture, says about the baby and Stefon.

The most damning revelation is a recording of Offset saying, “If I catch [Stefon], it’s going to be bad. I’m talking beat, strip, shot in the knee, all types of s**t,” he allegedly said about a career-ending attack.

Celina Puts Offset On Blast For Going Bankrupt Amid Divorce & Losing $800K While Trying To Win It Back Gambling

When Celina finally got an explanation about her money, she said Offset spent $10 million of the $13 million he had to get out of his Quality Control label contract.

“Then Cardi hit him with the divorce… and then he owes $2 million in taxes, and he’s about to file for bankruptcy,” she continued, explaining that he’s gambling nonstop to try to get his money back. Instead, Celina said he sent her proof he “lost $800,000” gambling after he repeatedly gave her the runaround.

On top of taking that loss, she claimed “Offset’s girlfriend” and two other women jumped Celina’s friend, Jordyn, at a NYE party. The two co-hosts speculated that Offset set up the whole fight, which Jordyn also alleged.

Milian and Celina also floated theories that Offset only set this series of shenanigans in motion with Celina because he knew she would expose him and make him relevant again. They also wondered whether the long-lost $15,000 was revenge for the fake pregnancy scandal five years ago. Even if Offset got the last laugh from the free promotion, he’d better hope Trap Celina doesn’t team up with his Trap Selena ex, Cardi.

  • No Lifetime Language (NLL) Offers on Amex Delta Cards, Earn Up to 125K Miles

    [ad_1]

NLL Offers on Amex Delta Cards

American Express and Delta Air Lines have launched new welcome offers on all six credit cards and they have no lifetime language (NLL). For Delta business cards especially, these are some of the best bonuses we have seen. The link is not targeted and the offers should show up for everyone. Let’s go over the details.

    Business Cards

These are the three offers available on Delta business cards:

    • Amex Delta Gold Business
      • Earn 90,000 Bonus Miles after spending $4,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.
      • $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $150.
    • Amex Delta Platinum Business
      • Earn 110,000 Bonus Miles after spending $6,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.
      • $350 annual fee

      • $650 annual fee

    Consumer Cards

These are the offers showing up for consumer cards:

    • Amex Delta Gold
      • Earn 85,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $4,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months.
      • $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $150.

      • $350 annual fee
    • Amex Delta Reserve
      • Earn 100,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $6,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months.
      • $650 annual fee

    How To Find These Offers

You can see these offers by creating a Delta SkyMiles business account, and they should show up for everyone. The consumer cards bonuses are working as well this time around.

You can also find more NLL offers here.

    Amex Lifetime Rule

American Express restricts you to just one sign up bonus per credit card product. That’s once per lifetime, although American Express usually looks just at the previous 5-7 years. Even if you previously had the card and didn’t receive a bonus (maybe during your pre-churning days), you won’t be eligible for a bonus on the same card.

On top of that, American Express has been introducing family rules for welcome bonuses. That means that if you receive a bonus on one card, you might become ineligible for a bonus from another card in the same family. Personal Delta credit cards have a family rule, while business credit cards do not.

However these offers does not seem to have that language so that means that you are able to get the bonus even if you have had the card in the past. Just make sure to check your own offer thoroughly to see if this restriction is included.

    Guru’s Wrap-up

These are some of the best offers we have seen on Delta cards, especially for business cards which match best ever offers. To make things better, there’s no lifetime language in the terms. This opens up the opportunity to earn another bonus, even if you have had one of these cards in the past.

  • Best Ever 300K Bonus for Amex Business Platinum Card Still Available! (Tips on How to Find It)

    [ad_1]

    Amex Business Platinum 300K Bonus

    Amex Business Platinum 300K Bonus

American Express launched recently the revamped U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Cards. While the welcome bonus for the consumer card has not changed, the business card now officially offers a 200K bonus. But some people are seeing even better offers for 250K and 300K points. The latter matches the best ever bonus on this card. Let’s check out the details, and see where you can look for the massive bonuses.

    Welcome Bonus Details

Don’t settle for the 200K bonus that is advertised by many sites, or by Amex itself!

    • Earn 300,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $20,000 or more on eligible purchases on your Card within your first 3 months of Card Membership starting from the approval date.
    • Annual Fee: $895

This offer is still around as of January 7, 2025, as reported in our Facebook Group.

    How to Find This Offer?

Update: Try turning your phone hotspot on, and then connect to it with your laptop or desktop and then proceed to search “amex business platinum”. Then open the first non-sponsored link in incognito. This worked for me in January 2026.

Here are some options that you can try:

    • Open this link in a chrome desktop incognito. I heard from a couple of people today that it worked.
    • Google “amex biz platinum” and click the first non-sponsored link.
    • You can also try another way that was shared in the comments for the Business Gold Card. Once you get an improved offer, just leave the page open and let it expire (takes about an hour or two). Once it expires, refresh the page and hopefully see the 300K bonus.
    • Check the Amex Offers section if you’re already an Amex cardholder. You will often find elevated offers there.

If these “tricks” don’t work, then you just need to keep trying different links (even referral links), browsers, locations either physically or through VPN, Wi-Fi connections etc. These methods worked for one of our Facebook Group members just a couple of days ago. I have seen a few reports of Opera browser being successful, so you might want to try that as well.

    Share Your Referrals

The elevated 250K or 300K bonuses are also showing up through referral links, which you use some of those tricks listed above. That means that you can possibly apply through a family member’s or friend’s link and still get the best bonus out there.

Please DO NOT share referrals in the comments on this article. You are welcome to share your referrals in our DDG Facebook Group which now has over 6,000 members.

You can also try some of those referral links and see if they get you the 300K bonus.

    Eligibility

This offer has the lifetime language:

“You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card or previous versions of this Card. You also may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for a welcome offer, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.”

However, you can still go ahead and apply even if you think you are not eligible. As noted in the terms, Amex will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw it. If you do not get the pop-up, then you will receive the welcome bonus.

What to Know About Applying for American Express Cards

Here are a few things worth noting regarding American Express credit card applications:

    • Amex limits you to a maximum of 5 credit cards and 10 charge cards.
    • There’s normally no hard pull when you apply for a new Amex card and are not approved.
    • If you already have an Amex card, then applying for more Amex cards will normally not result in a hard pull.
    • You are not eligible to receive a welcome bonus on a card you’ve held in the past. This is known as the lifetime rule, but that usually applies to cards you’ve had in the last 5-7 year. Here’s how to check what cards you’ve had in that timeframe.
    • American Express will let you know during the application process if you are not eligible for the welcome bonus. That means that you can always go ahead and apply for an Amex card, and then just withdraw the application if you are not eligible for the bonus.
    • 90 Day Rule: You can get up to two new cards every 90 days. This rule excludes charge cards.

    Card Details

    Guru’s Wrap-up

This is a great welcome offer for a credit card, even with the increased $895 annual fee. 300,000 points are worth $4,500 or more, so you are getting over $3,500 in value even after subtracting the annual fee. And that’s not taking into account the perks and benefits that now include a $600 FHR credit.

  • Dr. Karri Turner Bryant Says She Dresses For ‘Her Husband’

    [ad_1]

    Source: Paras Griffin / Getty

Dr. Karri Turner Bryant and Pastor Jamal Bryant recently opened up about the controversy surrounding the nude-illusion gown Dr. Karri wore at the annual UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball during an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, with Dr. Bryant reminding dress-dragging Christians that “there is no book” for the title of First Lady.

As previously reported, the drama started in late December when Dr. Karri attended the prestigious event wearing a lacy black gown that gave the illusion she was completely nude underneath. Social media and some members of the church community were quick to weigh in, arguing that the outfit was “too revealing.”

But as Dr. Karri explained to Tamron Hall, she wasn’t trying to start a fire; she was simply dressing for herself and her husband.

“People have said, ‘Oh, you know, she knew it would get this reaction.’ My ego is not that big. I don’t dress for people. I dress for myself and for my husband,” she said. “I am a wife? Yeah, I’m a wife. I’m a daughter. I have a doctorate. I’m a professor. There are plenty of things that I do, and the challenge is, we often want to see a woman be one-dimensional. ‘I am multi-dimensiona’l,” she continued. “I carry multiple titles.”

Conservative pastor Patrick Wooden likened the gown to a “$2 whore.”

Not everyone in the church agreed. Conservative Bishop Patrick Wooden of the Upper Room Church of God in Christ took aim during a recent sermon, calling Dr. Karri’s dress a “$2 whore” look and criticizing Pastor Jamal Bryant, who purchased the gown, for “demeaning” his wife.

“There is nothing classy about that. There’s nothing modest about that,” Bishop Wooden said.

Despite the harsh words, Dr. Karri remained unbothered. During her interview with Tamron Hall, she made it clear that she plans to continue being unapologetically herself.

“Now what you choose to call me on whatever day is fine for whatever that might be,” she said. “But I think that there is this idea that a woman can only be one thing, and once I happen to marry a pastor, I happen to fall in love with a man who is a pastor, right? And so with that came the title of First Lady. But there is no book for that. There is no manual for what that looks like. And I have decided that the title does not define me. I define what the title is.”

Pastor Jamal Bryant also addressed the backlash, calling the comments “painful.” At first, he debated whether to respond publicly.

“I don’t use my platform to preach against other preachers when there’s so much that’s going on in the world,” he told Hall. “It was very enraging and irritating, and at the end of the day, I had to think to myself to respond to that. Does that grow the church or does it diminish it? And so at that moment I had to separate my humanity and really deal with my divine call.”

In the end, Pastor Bryant did step in to defend his wife. As previously reported, he took to the pulpit on New Year’s Eve to set the record straight.

“The dress was not see-through, the dress was flesh-color,” he said. “I needed to set the record straight: I bought the dress! And I like it. I don’t care whether you like it or not, she ain’t married to y’all. She married to me.”

The pastor also pointed out that critics were missing the bigger picture: the prestigious event they attended helped raise $4 million for the United Negro College Fund.

What do you think about Dr. Karri Turner Bryant’s dress uproar? Are people taking it too far?

  • Warner Bros rejects takeover offer from Paramount – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Warner Bros. again rejected a takeover bid from Paramount and told shareholders Wednesday to stick with a rival offer from Netflix.

Warner’s leadership has repeatedly rebuffed Skydance-owned Paramount’s overtures — and urged shareholders just weeks ago to back its the sale of its streaming and studio business to Netflix for $72 billion. Paramount, meanwhile, has sweetened its $77.9 billion offer for the entire company and gone straight to shareholders with a hostile bid.

Warner Bros. Discovery said Wednesday that its board determined Paramount’s offer is not in the best interests of the company or its shareholders. It again recommended shareholders support the Netflix deal.

“Paramount’s offer continues to provide insufficient value, including terms such as an extraordinary amount of debt financing that create risks to close and lack of protections for our shareholders if a transaction is not completed,” Warner Bros. Discovery Chair Samuel Di Piazza Jr. said in a statement. “Our binding agreement with Netflix will offer superior value at greater levels of certainty, without the significant risks and costs Paramount’s offer would impose on our shareholders.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Late last month Paramount announced an “irrevocable personal guarantee” from Oracle founder Larry Ellison — who is the father of Paramount CEO David Ellison — to back $40.4 billion in equity financing for the company’s offer. Paramount also increased its promised payout to shareholders to $5.8 billion if the deal is blocked by regulators, matching what Netflix already put on the table.

In a letter to shareholders, Warner expressed concerns about a potential deal with Paramount. It said it essentially considers the offer a leveraged buyout, which includes a lot of debt, and that it could take 12 to 18 months to close a deal.

The battle for Warner and the value of each offer grows complicated because Netflix and Paramount want different things. Netflix’s proposed acquisition includes only Warner’s studio and streaming business, including its legacy TV and movie production arms and platforms like HBO Max. But Paramount wants the entire company — which, beyond studio and streaming, includes networks like CNN and Discovery.

    Story continues below advertisement

If Netflix is successful, Warner’s news and cable operations would be spun off into their own company, under a previously-announced separation.

A merger with either company will attract tremendous antitrust scrutiny. Due to its size and potential impact, it will almost certainly trigger a review by the U.S. Justice Department, which could sue to block the transaction or request changes. Other countries and regulators overseas may also challenge the merger.
