For nearly 30 years, civil war has torn Sri Lanka apart, driven by religious factions intolerant of one another. Naseema Qureshi is a peace advocate working to build tolerance between the numerous ethnic and religious groups that call Sri Lanka home. She spreads a message of coexistence that is gaining popularity throughout the country and is helping to build lasting peace across the nation.

    ABOUT NASEEMA QURESHI

Born into the politically turbulent times of Pakistan in the 1960s, Naseema Qureshi was witness to the rise of terrorism and civil rioting. Early on, she began seeking answers to effectively guide society onto a path of peace. Naseema first became involved in Sri Lanka after the tsunami in 2005 when she was part of a disaster response team volunteering to help the island recover. Amidst the ruin of the tsunami was the rubble of war, Sri Lanka was a nation that needed help — help that Naseema would bring a few years later in the form of The Way to Happiness. With its common-sense values and morals, Naseema found the solution to healing the rift of religious intolerance that had left such deep scars in Sri Lanka. She introduced the program to a Presidential Task Force member in the Sri Lankan government and they implemented it across the country. Scientology Network’s VOICES FOR HUMANITY, the weekly series presenting heroic change-makers from a variety of faiths, cultures and nations, working to uplift communities, announces a new episode featuring activist Rosalba Cordero.

Mexico has become a killing field—nearly a hundred murders every day while Mexican prisons serve as “colleges of crime” with over 80 percent of those released returning to criminality. Saving Mexico’s future by salvaging youth, Rosalba and José Cordero fight against moral decline that enables Mexico’s drug cartels to traffic kids into a life of organized crime. Their campaigns in schools and prisons across Mexico carry a powerful message of moral values, bringing new hope for their nation.

    ABOUT ROSALBA CORDERO

Born in Mexico City, Rosalba recognized at a young age that many crimes and injustices stemmed from lack of basic moral values. Rosalba vowed to find some way to spare children from the trauma she suffered. Discovering The Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to better living, Rosalba and husband José founded a nonprofit to forward the book’s precepts. Their Social Development and Recovery of Values Association educates young people in schools and across Mexico’s prison system. Using The Way to Happiness, Rosalba and José have created real criminal reform in prisons across Mexico State and Mexico City—with 99 percent of graduates of the program living lives free of crime. Their efforts to restore morality and peace have earned them recognition by the Mexican federal government.

Volunteers respond to a spate of deadly shootings by promoting peace and unity.

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 23, 2019

In the aftermath of recent fatal shootings in Kansas City, volunteers from the local Church of Scientology took to the streets to deliver a message of peace.

This came in the form of a booklet called The Way to Happinessa common-sense guide to better living written by humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, which delivers a universal message to people of all faiths, cultures, and creeds. “Its principles bring hope at times like this,” said Bennette Seaman, Public Affairs Director of the Kansas City Church of Scientology who organized the activity. “It resonates with people of all walks of life and gives them a tool to take back their communities and reduce crime.”

In inner cities throughout the country, gang interventionists use The Way to Happiness to reduce violence and bring peace to the streets.

The book is used in the Twin Cities by MAD DADs, a coalition of African-American men and parents who are fed up with gang violence and illegal drugs, led by peace activist V.J. Smith.

Denver’s Rev. Leon Kelly swears by the power of the booklet, which he uses in “Flipping the Script,” a program to help bring parolees back into society and keep them out of jail.

And in Los Angeles, the booklet is credited by the cofounders of the monthly Peace Rides, Rev. Tony Muhammad and Rev. Alfreddie Johnson, with lowering the crime rate and brokering peace between the Bloods and the Crips, South Central L.A.’s notorious gangs.

“We want to spread a message of peace in KC,” said Seaman. “We want to get many community groups working together to saturate the city with this positive message.”

As part of their outreach to reduce crime and contribute to the neighborhood, Church volunteers will participate in the Urban Core cleanup day 24 August and they urge the community to come out in force to pull together at this time.

Volunteers from the Church of Scientology Cambridge say, “making positive change is in your hands.”

    Press Release

    updated: Jul 23, 2019

“With The Way to Happiness. if you want to make a difference in your community, there is something you can do,” say the volunteers of the Church of Scientology of Cambridge. They took their campaign to the streets, marching in a recent parade to promote a common-sense moral code they say anyone may use to improve their lives and those of the people around them.

The 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness include such simple concepts as “Take Care of Yourself,” “Love and Help Children,” and “Set a Good Example.” There are also practical tools, such as simple actions anyone may take to improve their relationships with others and a guideline for helping to improve one’s potential for success.

In the chapter titled “Happiness,” humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote:

“The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you. Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives. While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be.”

The Cambridge volunteers invite anyone wishing to increase their own happiness or to improve the lives of others they care about to read the booklet or watch The Way to Happiness book on film on the Scientology Network.

The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness. Some 117 million copies have been distributed in 186 nations.

Police Officers Set a Good Example in Midrand, South Africa

    Press Release

    updated: Jul 21, 2019

South African Police Service (SAPS) officers in Midrand have taken a page from The Way to Happiness as they “set a good example” with their outreach to the community.

They loaded up their vans with boxes of The Way to Happiness, the common-sense guide to better living with values that apply to people of all cultures, faiths and creeds.

The agency is charged with creating a safe and secure environment, and what better way to do so than by promoting honesty and good conduct.

Precept 20 of the booklet is “Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.” It states:

“In all times and in most places, Mankind has looked up to and revered certain values. They are called the virtues. They have been attributed to wise men, holy men, saints and gods. They have made the difference between a barbarian and a cultured person, the difference between chaos and a decent society.

“Joy and pleasure do not come from immorality! Quite the reverse! Joy and pleasure arise only in honest hearts: the immoral lead unbelievably tragic lives filled with suffering and pain. The human virtues have little to do with gloominess. They are the bright face of life itself.”

The officers also helped renovate a local orphanage, working on the construction of new facilities for the children.

Humanitarian and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote The Way to Happiness: A Common Sense Guide to Better Living. Entirely nonreligious, its 21 precepts may be used by anyone regardless of race, culture or creed to foster kindness, honesty and the basic skills of living.

The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness. Some 117 million copies have been distributed in 186 nations.

Studies show that cleaning up neighborhoods can reduce crime and violence, and that’s right in the line of the country of MAD DADS and volunteers from the Church of Scientology who joined forces in a cleanup of the volatile neighborhood around the intersection of Emerson Avenue North and 31st Street in Minneapolis.

MAD DADS is a coalition of African-American men and parents who are fed up with gang violence and illegal drugs. Minneapolis-based MAD DADS National President and Executive Director, V.J. Smith, organized the cleanup and posted about it on his Facebook page.

Cars honked their approval as the volunteers collected the trash, including a huge volume of broken glass, and hauled it away. And far from being an arduous afternoon, it was fun.

V.J. Smith grew up on the streets as a foster youth and was introduced to organized crime at an early age. He turned his own life around and his passion is mentoring and helping young people change the course of their lives. He is featured in an episode of Voices for Humanity on the Scientology Network.

In cities around the world, volunteers from The Way to Happiness Foundation chapters carry out cleanups to improve their communities. A common-sense moral code, written by humanitarian and author L. Ron HubbardThe Way to Happiness contains 21 basic principles that guide one to a better quality of life, including the precept: “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment,” which states:

“There are many things one can do to help take care of the planet. They begin with the idea that one should. They progress with suggesting to others they should. Man has gotten up to the potential of destroying the planet. He must be pushed on up to the capability and actions of saving it. It is, after all, what we’re standing on.”

Volunteers from The Way to Happiness Association of Toronto joined the Walk For Values 2019

    Press Release

    updated: Jun 5, 2019

The Way to Happiness volunteers from the Church of Scientology Toronto joined peace-loving people from throughout the city who gathered at Nathan Phillips Square and walked together to show their support for the Walk for Values campaign. The walk was organized by the Sathya Sai School of Canada.

Walk for Values began in Toronto in 2003 and is now celebrated in 30 cities across Canada and the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, India and Malaysia. Its purpose is to raise awareness and respect for five human values: Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Nonviolence.

These values are shared by The Way to Happiness Association of Toronto, whose members live by the common-sense precepts of The Way to Happiness by author, humanitarian and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, which begins with these words:

True joy and happiness are valuable.

If one does not survive, no joy and no happiness are obtainable.

Trying to survive in a chaotic, dishonest and generally immoral society is difficult.

Any individual or group seeks to obtain from life what pleasure and freedom from pain that they can.

Your own survival can be threatened by the bad actions of others around you.

I am sure you can think of instances of this actually happening. Such wrongs reduce one’s survival and impair one’s happiness.

You are important to other people. You are listened to. You can influence others.

The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you.

Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives.

While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be.

Walk organizers ask each participant to pledge to practice one or more of the five values — truth, right conduct, peace, love and nonviolence — in their daily lives to become better Canadians and global citizens.

The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness. Some 117 million copies have been distributed in 186 nations.

“The Way to Happiness”—in support of the new era South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa envisions

    Press Release

    updated: Jun 5, 2019

At his inauguration on May 25, South Africa President Cyril Rampaphosa vowed to tackle corruption and rejuvenate the country’s struggling economy. To help him accomplish his goals and ensure a peaceful celebration, volunteers and police officers handed out more than 60,000 copies of The Way to Happiness to those flooding into Pretoria to be part of the historic occasion.

Elected in May, Mr. Ramaphosa initially took over the position in 2018 when former President Jacob Zuma resigned amid accusations of corruption. Ramaphosa’s campaign was based on a platform of honest government and social reform.

“It is time for us to make the future we yearn for,” he told the more than 30,000 gathered at Pretoria’s Loftus Versfeld Stadium. “It is through our actions now that we will determine our destiny.”

Well aware that his election was “a mandate to build a nation founded on social justice,” Ramaphosa stressed the importance of “dealing with each other with honor, dignity and respect.”

These are ideals echoed in the pages of The Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to better living written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, and forwarded by the distribution of the booklets to those attending the inauguration.

Volunteers began arriving the evening before the event and worked through the night and the following day, handing out copies of The Way to Happiness to ensure a peaceful inauguration ceremony.

Morality, honesty, taking charge of one’s own future—these are all strengthened by the application of the 21 precepts of this guide to better living. And they are vital components for building an ethical and productive society.

The Way to Happiness was written in 1981. Immensely popular since its first publication, some 115 million copies have been distributed in 115 languages in 186 nations. It holds the Guinness World Record as the single most-translated nonreligious book and fills the moral vacuum in an increasingly materialistic society.

“Youth Voices: Creating a Brighter Future” was a celebration of International Day of Happiness at the Church of Scientology Nashville. Sponsored by The Way to Happiness Association of Tennessee and The Way to Happiness Kids Club of Nashville, the program included words from young people age 5 to 13 who spoke about making a brighter future.

Anna, age 5, opened the program by welcoming those attending. Two 6-year-olds spoke of how all people should work together for a better future. Jazzy, 11, invited the children in the audience to join The Way to Happiness Kids Club.

During the panel discussion, 13-year-old Yusuf, 9-year-old Omaran and 10-year-old Celia answered questions posed to them about how to set a good example and remain true to yourself despite those who may try to bully or harm you.

The Way to Happiness Association promotes The Way To Happiness — the common-sense moral code written by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. The 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness are all based on the fact that one’s survival depends on the survival of others. Simply following these precepts can result in a happier life.

Each child attending the event was given a copy of a poster illustrating the 21 precepts that they can use as a guide in making decisions that can result in a happier, more moral life. They also received their own copy of The Way to Happiness booklet.

Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness on March 20 as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. The United Nations encourages schools, businesses and governments to join in the celebration of the day.

After a week of rain, the sun came out just in time for the monthly Hollywood neighborhood cleanup organized by the Church of Scientology in coordination with The Way to Happiness Foundation and the LAPD.

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 22, 2019

Dozens of volunteers gathered at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre on Jan. 19, and took off—carrying shovels, rakes, brooms and heavy-duty trash bags—for the 11th consecutive monthly “Hollywood Village” cleanup, made more challenging because of a week of heavy rain that left the neighborhood sodden and bedraggled. But despite the prospect of soggy cardboard, waterlogged food scraps, and discarded and mildewed clothes and bedding, the Southern California sun, clear skies and 78-degree temperature lifted spirits, and everyone pitched in with enthusiasm.

The Hollywood Neighborhood Cleanup takes place (rain or shine) the third Saturday of every month. It is organized by the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in coordination with The Way to Happiness Foundation and the LAPD.

Volunteers gather at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International at 5930 Franklin Avenue for coffee and donuts provided by community partners including Kettle Glazed Donuts and The Oaks Gourmet Market. Then it’s off to some of the seediest sections of Hollywood.

Before the morning was over, volunteers filled 40 large bags with trash and disposed of four crack pipes and 44 syringes—items that can prove fatal if discovered by curious neighborhood children.

Each month, the volunteers visit local homeless encampments. Homelessness is a serious and growing problem in Southern California. According to a KCET feature last summer, between 2010 and 2017, homelessness spiked by 42 percent from an estimated 38,700 to 55,000, with an average 32 percent increase in rent driving more and more locals into the streets. But it’s not only financial woes that spawn the homeless phenomenon—many who live on the streets also suffer from drug addiction or have been marginalized by social and personal difficulties. Which is where “The Way to Happiness” enters the equation.

Volunteers hand out copies of this common-sense moral code. “It is full of gems,” says James Richardson who heads up the Celebrity Centre security team and began carrying out Hollywood cleanups several years ago to make the neighborhood safer for parishioners and local residents. “We’ve had security guards sit next to a homeless person for hours simply reading the precepts of the booklet to them,” he says. “Suddenly, one of them will spark something and you see a change in their face. We even had one guy come back to us to thank us for leaving one of the booklets with him. He was planning to kill himself that afternoon but after reading the booklet he saw a way out of the trap he found himself in and he decided to fix it.”

Immensely popular since its first publication in 1981, some 115 million copies of the booklet have been distributed in more than 100 languages in nearly 200 nations.

Volunteers are planning a special event on Feb. 17 to mark the first anniversary of these monthly Hollywood cleanups. Anyone wishing to participate to help make the neighborhood safe and clean is welcome to join in the action.

She said that by simply giving a copy of this booklet to friends and associates, we can bring about a culture of friendliness, one person at a time, and create an impact on issues of prime importance to the community such as homelessness, crime, violence and racism.

Cultural Affairs Director of the Sri Lanka Foundation Ms. Achala Weerasinghe, introduced the program with a video showing the beauty of Sri Lanka and its cultural traditions.

The audience was then treated to a dazzling performance by Sri Lankin dancers dressed in traditional costumes. The music was arranged by the Sri Lanka Performing Arts Center whose mission is to bring the 2,500-year history of Sri Lanka to life through traditional dancing and drumming.

Guest speaker Mr. Nandi Jasentuliyan, President Emeritus of the International Institute of Space Law and Policy, spoke of the importance of friendship. He referred to The Way to Happiness precept: “Respect the religious beliefs of others.”

“Tolerance is a good cornerstone on which to build human relationships,” he said.

International Day of Friendship was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly to inspire peace and build bridges by forging friendships among peoples, countries, cultures and individuals. It emphasizes activities that promote international understanding and respect for diversity of different cultures.

The Way to Happiness, authored by humanitarian and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbardprovides a non-religious, common-sense guide to living a happier life. The mission of The Way to Happiness Foundation is to reverse the moral decay of society by restoring trust and honesty the world over through the publication and widespread distribution of The Way to Happiness.

That mission is accomplished on a grass-roots level, worldwide, by individuals who share The Way to Happiness booklet with others and so bring about an increase in tolerance and understanding between families, friends, groups, communities, nations and mankind — making a safer, less violent world for all. The book has been distributed in 115 languages in 186 nations.

“Never underestimate the value of friendship.” This was the message of a community open house at the Brussels branch of the Churches of Scientology for Europe—a celebration of International Day of Friendship and the Day of the African Woman.

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 18, 2018

An open house at the Brussels branch of the Churches of Scientology for Europe brought together people of many cultures for an evening of music and friendship in celebration of International Day of Friendship and the Day of the African Woman.

The program was organized by the Belgium chapter of The Way to Happiness Foundation, which promotes common-sense values that transcend all cultural differences.

The evening began with a buffet of exotic dishes from the Congo, DRC, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Lebanon and Pakistan. This was followed by a concert of African music and songs of friendship in the Church auditorium.

The president of the local chapter of The Way to Happiness Foundation introduced those attending to a simple way anyone may take action to accomplish the goal of the International Day of Friendship: “a better world where all are united for the greater good.” She screened a series of brief videos of the 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness, the common-sense moral code written by L. Ron Hubbard. She showed that by sharing the booklet with others, one can help people restore their self-respect, the lack of which breeds intolerance, criminality, self-destructive behavior and environmental irresponsibility, creates cultural decay and ruins lives.

Representatives of African NGOs spoke of the importance of the African woman in creating a better life in emerging countries. This was followed by more music and a toast to friendship over dessert, served in the Church’s Public Information Hall.

The Way to Happiness was written in 1981. Immensely popular since its first publication, The Way to Happiness has been embraced by more than 250,000 groups and individuals, with some 115 million copies distributed in 115 languages in 186 nations. The book holds the Guinness World Record as the single most-translated nonreligious book and fills the moral vacuum in an increasingly materialistic society.

‘Many People, One Community’ was the theme of the International Friendship Day celebration at the Church of Scientology Nashville.

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 14, 2018

Diverse Nashville religious communities came together to celebrate the fourth annual Friendship Day Open House on the theme “Many People, One Community” at the Nashville Church of Scientology. The event featured The Way to Happinessthe common-sense moral code written by L. Ron Hubbard that contains precepts people of goodwill of any faith hold in common.

International Day of Friendship was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 in the belief that “friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.”

By bringing people together for an open dialogue, we’ve been able to create new and lasting friendships among people who otherwise might never interact.

Rev. Brian Fesler, pastor of the Church of Scientology Nashville

The Way to Happiness Association of Tennessee, which provides a community betterment program based on the precepts of The Way to Happiness, helped organize and host the event. The initiative is predicated on the principle that one’s survival depends on the survival of others and that without the survival of others, neither joy nor happiness is attainable. Several precepts in the book promote dialogue and friendship, among them: “Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others,” “Be Worthy of Trust” and “Try to Treat Others As You Would Want Them to Treat You.” At the event, these precepts were used as the basis for a discussion led by respected community leaders and participated in by those attending.

“By bringing people together for an open dialogue, we’ve been able to create new and lasting friendships among people who otherwise might never interact,” says Rev. Brian Fesler, pastor of the Nashville Church of Scientology. “It is inspiring to see so much happen in just a short amount of time.”

National MAD DADS President, and founder and President of the Minneapolis chapter, V.J. Smith is reclaiming the neighborhoods of Minneapolis with the help of The Way to Happiness

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 14, 2018

V.J. Smith is on a mission to get men to stand up and take the community back from drugs and crime. He has been described as “a turnaround specialist” — he turned his own life around and now specializes in helping the youth of the community do the same.

MAD DADS stands for Men Against Destruction, Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder, a nonprofit founded in 1989 in Omaha, Nebraska, by men and fathers who were fed up with gang violence and illegal drugs in their community. Smith is national MAD DADS president and founder and president of the group’s Minneapolis chapter.

Happiness is really about something deep inside you and once you understand how that operates, you can be a happier person.

V.J. Smith, National MAD DADS President and Founder and President of Minneapolis MAD DADS

“We want to be that conduit of men making a difference in the jails, in the schools, on the streets, in the churches and all around the community to help transform our families and our fathers,” he says.

He leads his volunteers out onto the streets at night to bring wise counsel and a listening ear to young men and women who have never experienced a relationship with a real caring adult.

And one of the tools he uses is The Way to Happinessthe common-sense moral code written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. He was introduced to the booklet by members of the Church of Scientology of Twin Cities who work with him on his drug education and prevention activities.

Smith had a custom edition of The Way to Happiness made with the MAD DADS logo on the cover. What he loves about handing the booklet to someone is the difference he knows it can make in their lives. “Just a little bit of information will take a person a long way and help them to have a better quality of life,” he says. “We hear people say, ‘You know I read that book and it changes the way I think about life. It changes how I feel about things.’”

Smith talks about people who really don’t understand what happiness is. “Happiness is not about how much money you have,” he says. “It’s not about what kind of car you drive. Happiness is not about what kind of house you live in or any of that. Happiness is really about something deep inside you and once you understand how that operates, you can be a happier person.”

He describes his purpose as reaching “the least, the last and the lost” — people who are overlooked and often taken advantage of. “Our goal is to help those individuals to be better, to understand what it is like to have a fulfilled life. Understand that, yes, there are challenges but you have the power, you have the power within you to conquer those challenges and come out a winner. We just have to show you how to do it — give you the tools to do it, give you the support to be strong.”

Immensely popular since its first publication, it has been embraced by more than 250,000 groups and individuals, with some 115 million copies distributed in 115 languages in 186 nations. Volunteers gathered in a Paris suburb for a neighborhood cleanup and to hand out copies of the common-sense moral code from which the group takes its name

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 12, 2018

The Way to Happiness Foundation of France is helping tackle community issues in Paris suburbs.

Ten million French people live in these neighborhoods, in some of which unemployment among young men is as high as 45 percent. With no hope for the future, many turn to drugs and crime.

There is no person alive who cannot make a new beginning.

    L. Ron Hubbard, Founder, Scientology

Because some sociological studies have found that disorder in urban neighborhoods can lead to more crime, the first thing the volunteers did was to organize a cleanup. Equipped with plastic bags and cleaning gear, they spruced up the neighborhood.

They also set up their tent, where they handed out thousands of copies of The Way to Happinessthe common-sense moral code written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.

Comprising 21 precepts for better living, The Way to Happiness is unique for several reasons: most moral codes are closely connected to a particular faith. The Way to Happiness is nonreligious and may be used by people of any faith — or no faith at all.

Another special feature of the booklet is that it doesn’t simply lay out what one should or shouldn’t do — it presents guidelines and practical ideas to apply its 21 moral principles.

For example, with heavy unemployment, one’s odds for being hired can be improved by being industrious and competent — two of the precepts of the moral code. The booklet lays out three simple but vital steps anyone can take to improve their competence.

In short, the precepts of this booklet are a tool for taking the chance out of life and gaining an edge.

In the epilogue, Mr. Hubbard wrote:

“One can feel at times like a spinning leaf blown along a dirty street, one can feel like a grain of sand stuck in one place. But nobody has said that life was a calm and orderly thing: it isn’t. One isn’t a tattered leaf nor a grain of sand: one can, to greater or lesser degree draw his road map and follow it.

“One can feel that things are such now that it is much too late to do anything, that one’s past road is so messed up that there is no chance of drawing a future one that will be any different: there is always a point on the road when one can map a new one. And try to follow it. There is no person alive who cannot make a new beginning.”

In cities across the globe, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, educators and police have adopted The Way to Happiness to fight crime, help people improve their lives and raise the standards and potential of their communities.

The Church of Scientology Paris sponsors this chapter of The Way to Happiness Foundation. The church and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness. The mission of The Way to Happiness Foundation is to reverse the moral decay of society by restoring trust and honesty the world over through the publication and widespread distribution of The Way to Happiness.

That mission is accomplished on a grass-roots level, worldwide, by individuals who share The Way to Happiness booklet with others and so bring about increased tolerance and understanding between families, friends, groups, communities, nations and mankind — making a safer, less-violent world for all. The book has been distributed in 115 languages in 186 nations.

Rev. Leon Kelly: Making the Denver inner city streets safe throughout the year

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 2, 2018

For 17 years, Rev. Leon Kelly has hosted an annual Christmas party for Denver’s Cole neighborhood, where gang violence is still an everyday fact of life. Some 300 children and their families attended this year’s celebration. A copy of The Way to Happiness was tucked into every stocking handed out to children at this annual party, along with treats, toys, and other books to help give these children an alternative to gang life.

Working with Denver’s inner city gangs for more than thirty years, Rev. Kelly has witnessed the devastation that began with the incursion of Los Angeles’ two largest gangs, the Crips and the Bloods, into Denver neighborhoods.

Rev. Kelly’s successful anti-gang work brings together law enforcement, government initiatives, and community outreach programs to keep gang violence to a minimum.

The Denver Post reported on Rev. Kelly’s concerns this summer and the results he accomplished:

“After a spring shooting death in the Curtis Park neighborhood, Kelly feared gang violence in northeast Denver would escalate as it did in 2015 when the city’s homicides reached a nine-year high. Kelly knew he could not prevent deaths in every neighborhood in the city, so he focused on the one area that had experienced the most violence in 2015.

“Kelly rallied his supporters—Denver police officers, business leaders, churches, and schools—and he pledged that he would be the one to hold the ‘hood accountable.

“‘There’s problems going on all over the place, but we wanted to pick a small area,’ Kelly said. ‘This is the little bit we did with the little bit that we had.’”

At the end of August, he announced the results—not a single homicide death all summer in the entire neighborhood.

Several years ago, Rev. Kelly incorporated the use of The Way to Happiness, a common sense guide to better living by L. Ron Hubbard, into his gang prevention work. Rev. Kelly is an ordained Church of God in Christ minister who says, “There is nothing in The Way to Happiness that isn’t in my good book, the one I read all the time.”

  • Spreading Happiness at the Fair Oaks Christmas Parade

Spreading Happiness at the Fair Oaks Christmas Parade

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 6, 2017

Church of Scientology Sacramento and local Scientology Missions promote 21 ways to make Christmas bright at this year’s Fair Oaks “Christmas in the Village” Celebration.

The 34th annual “Christmas in the Village” celebration sponsored by the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce spread Christmas cheer to thousands this year with a gingerbread house, arts and crafts at Santa’s Workshop and the Parade of Lights along Fair Oaks Boulevard. The Church of Scientology Sacramento and local Scientology Missions joined forces to create a float for this year’s parade — one of dozens entered by local community groups. The floats rolled down the parade route Dec. 2, accompanied by marching bands, dancers, officials and vintage cars.

Volunteers from local chapters of The Way to Happiness Foundation helped create the float. The Church and Missions sponsor these chapters to uplift their communities by promoting the nonreligious common sense guide to better living written by L. Ron Hubbard, humanitarian, author and founder of the Scientology religion. Mr. Hubbard wrote The Way to Happiness to help “arrest the current moral decline in society and restore integrity and trust to humankind.”

Seated aboard the float, a young volunteer carried a placard bearing the title of one of the booklet’s 21 precepts, “Honor and Help Your Parents” — an appropriate motto for the family-friendly event.

The 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness are:

    1. Take Care of Yourself

    2. Be Temperate

    3. Don’t Be Promiscuous

    4. Love and Help Children

    5. Honor and Help Your Parents

    6. Set a Good Example

    7. Seek to Live With the Truth

    8. Do Not Murder

    9. Don’t Do Anything Illegal

    10. Support a Government Designed and Run for All the People

    11. Do Not Harm a Person of Good Will

    12. Safeguard and Improve Your Environment

    13. Do Not Steal

    14. Be Worthy of Trust

    15. Fulfill Your Obligations

    16. Be Industrious

    17. Be Competent

    18. Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others

    19. Try Not to Do Things to Others That You Would Not Like Them to Do to You

    20. Try to Treat Others as You Would Want Them to Treat You

    21. Flourish and Prosper.
