  • I Live in Venice Beach Where Low-Key Style Is It—These Outfits Hit

I Live in Venice Beach Where Low-Key Style Is It—These Outfits Hit

I’ve always been a city girl. I was born in Kuala Lumpur, grew up in Houston, and upon moving to L.A., lived comfortably east of the 405 for years. But a California hazard they don’t warn you about is that you might meet a cute surfer who eventually lures you all the way west. After some cajoling, I gave in to my inner Pisces, packed up my gray Tabby, and moved us across town to the sun-dappled, salty-aired streets of Venice Beach.

It’s been six years since, and while I may not yet be a bona fide beach babe (I still prefer reading on the sand to roaring waves), it’s home. My hair is blonder, my mornings slower, and I love the neighborhood’s walkability and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Every time I catch another glorious pink sunset, it does feel a little like living in a fantasy.

If you’ve ever experienced L.A. traffic, you know how vast and sprawling the city is. Different zip codes mean different dress codes, and the attitude in Venice is very relaxed. Denim and comfy shoes reign supreme, and a knit is a must to combat the almost-always-present marine layer. Most of my bolder pieces have been relegated to the back of my closet, awaiting invites for martinis at Tower Bar, dancing at A Club Called Rhonda, and too much pasta at Little Dom’s. So while my highlights may not be low-maintenance, my approach to daily dressing is.

Keep reading for three of my tried-and-true outfits for your next trip to the beach.

  • I Moved and Have a Bigger Closet Now, But I Still Purged These 4 Items

I Moved and Have a Bigger Closet Now, But I Still Purged These 4 Items

In this roller coaster year of ups and downs, I’ve sat on the news of buying and renovating my first home. The process has been eye-opening, exciting, alarmingly adult, and an exercise in gratitude (and patience) every day.

It’s also been a new, welcome creative outlet. I’ve loved picking out paint samples, tile, and sourcing furniture, and I’ve especially loved designing my closet from scratch. As someone who used to pray daily that her rotted-wood closet bar wouldn’t buckle under pressure (and relied heavily on rolling racks), I still can’t believe I have a walk-in! After installation, I’d find myself wandering in and out of the empty room, a giddy smile plastered on my face. It felt fresh and full of hope. I didn’t want to sully the space with anything that no longer brought me joy.

A new home means new beginnings, and I wanted to honor that with a well-curated wardrobe. I am deeply sentimental, so this proved to be harder than I thought it would, but I did it. I now live in a color-coded reality of tightly edited pieces (I know—who am I?) and you know what? It feels good.

Inspired to get a head start on spring cleaning? Read on for the pieces I bid adieu to.

  • I Just Came From Australia—This Is What All the Cool Girls Were Wearing

I Just Came From Australia—This Is What All the Cool Girls Were Wearing

Earlier this November, I felt downright giddy when I realized my Australia trip was right around the corner. A sunny reprieve in the middle of winter (okay, I live in California, but still)? Yes, please!

I was so blinded by my own sunny outlook that I chose to ignore my Australian relatives’ warnings. November, they warned me, was more akin to spring, and rain was far likelier than beach days. “Totally,” I agreed as I spread bikinis out on my bed.

Here’s the cold, hard truth: Melbourne is chilly. Weather-wise, it’s got the moody marine layer of San Francisco with a healthy dash of Seattle fog. It’s a gorgeous city but a gray city nonetheless! Your girl was freezing, her dreams of returning stateside a sun-kissed goddess dashed. Ever the optimist and buoyed by a daily diet of piping-hot meat pies, I chose to look on the bright side. I was 11 hours ahead of home, putting me in the unique position of living in the future, baby! With newfound zeal, I hit the streets, credit card at ready and a keen eagle eye trained on what the cool Melbourne girls were wearing.

  • People in Paris Look Wealthier Even If They're Not—Here's Why

People in Paris Look Wealthier Even If They're Not—Here's Why

As an avid Real Housewives fan, I’ve gotten used to seeing women in splashy outfits. Logo mania looms large in the Bravo universe, which makes it the perfect form of escapism. My own sartorial tastes are decidedly more sedate. While I’ve never shied away from color or texture, I grew up in a household where the saying “take one accessory off before leaving” is gospel, and while I believe rules were made to broken, you have to admit that restrained dressing is becoming more and more of an art form.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock this year, the terms “quiet luxury” and “rich mom” dressing aren’t novel to you. But the French have been doing it for ages and doing it well. They know that dressing expensively doesn’t require draining your bank account, just discerning taste, smart investing, and pairing pieces well.

Read ahead to see how French women fake it (and by “it,” I mean money in their bank accounts).

With the many holiday events we all have on our plates this time of year, finding pieces to wear to each and every one is never going to be easy unless you find a way to make a handful of dresses—or even just one really good dress—work for everything on your jam-packed schedule. • You Need to See These 35 Ref Finds If Your Motto Is Timeless Yet On-Trend

You Need to See These 35 Ref Finds If Your Motto Is Timeless Yet On-Trend

Like most of us, I’m a huge fan of Reformation. The brand offers beautiful pieces in flattering silhouettes with a mission statement I feel aligned with. Its selection always feels perfectly current without being overly trendy, so I know I’ll return to those purchases season after season—which is something I’ve been more mindful of in recent years. The goal for my closet is longevity, with each piece feeling modern without anyone being able to pinpoint exactly what year it’s from.

It seems this fall, Ref understood the assignment particularly well, marrying the season’s biggest trends with an air of classic elegance. It bridged that gap masterfully by infusing hints of modern details into otherwise classic silhouettes, like beautiful knee-high boots in the season’s It color, red. I took a scroll through its new fall arrivals, casually adding items to my cart that I was interested in coming back to, and my cart was filled to the brim by the end—I must have added half of the site to my cart. Since refined pieces seem to be on everyone’s mind right now, I figured I’d highlight the best of what I saved here. From chic cashmere dresses to colorful tweed sets and cozy cable-knit sweaters, these 35 timeless Reformation fashion items are guaranteed to become closet staples.

  • I’ve Tried, But I Just Can’t Stop Thinking About These Fall Ref and Mango Finds

I’ve Tried, But I Just Can’t Stop Thinking About These Fall Ref and Mango Finds

Since I look at clothes pretty much all day, every day, being able to resist pretty things is practically an essential part of my job description. If I couldn’t, well, my paycheck would never actually reach my bank account. There are far too many temptations in the way. With that in mind, when I’m categorically unable to say no and mean it, the pieces causing this internal battle have to be good. Trust me. I’m not giving in for just anything.

Right now, there are really only two brands swirling around my mind with no intention of leaving and no one exactly kicking them out: Mango and Reformation. That’s because I spent a few too many hours today scrolling through both retailers’ fall collections and was thoroughly impressed with what I found. From viral-worthy dresses to the prettiest boots you’ll see, like, ever, find a little bit of everything your fall wardrobe’s been craving below from Reformation and Mango. At least, I know I did.

  • My Favorite Going-Out Outfit Includes This Cool-Girl Staple—38 Under-$100 Finds

My Favorite Going-Out Outfit Includes This Cool-Girl Staple—38 Under-$100 Finds

To know me is to know I simply don’t leave the house without good reason. Dinner and drinks past 8 p.m. during prime Real Housewives of Salt Lake City watching time? Most definitely not. I can, however, be convinced if a particular outing involves an equally-as-compelling outfit.

Enter the classic going-out top. For many cool girls on Instagram and starlets, it’s often the first thing they turn to when picking out something to wear for a night out. The term noticeably leaves a ton of room for interpretation. Maybe it’s a sparkly, bedazzled crop top, a silky halter-neck, or perhaps one of the dozens of options on the market right now, all clocking in at under $100. With new styles coming in hot every day on our favorite retailers like Zara, Revolve, and Shopbop, there’s quite literally a going-out top for every occasion you could possibly think of. Plus, they go especially well with jeans or a classic pair of black trousers, no matter the occasion. Versatility rating? Major score.

Below, shop some of the best affordable going-out tops perfect for after-office drinks, a date night, or a squad outing. Trust me—you’ll have to resist buying every single one on this list.

I’m Updating My Wardrobe With Easy Basics From Abercrombie, H&M, and Reformation

You can never have too many basics. As the foundational building blocks of any closet, it’s important to refresh your basic staples regularly. • The Fashion Set Can’t Stop Wearing This $58 Game-Changing Tank Top

The Fashion Set Can’t Stop Wearing This $58 Game-Changing Tank Top

There’s nothing quite like getting your hands on a viral fashion find before the internet sells it out. Today’s case study in Instagrammable fashion involves Reformation’s beloved bateau-neck tank tops. The It girl-friendly brand is the fashion set’s go-to label come summertime. But ever since Sofia Richie’s timeless style altered our brain chemistry and defined months of summer trends, I’ve been drifting more toward Reformation’s basics, namely, their under-$100 items that look triple the price.

After scrolling TikTok one night, I realized it wasn’t just me. I saw at least five videos of fashion people and Gen Zers showing off their Reformation hauls. And the one item in every haul? The Dusk knit tank top. At $58, it’s one of the most affordable things on the brand’s website, not to mention one of the most classic. If you’re looking for a low-cost, high-joy piece to go with everything in your closet, look no further. I visited Reformation’s Upper East Side store to get one but left with three.

While there are trendy items I’ve loved for months, my latest obsession hasn’t quite hit the mainstream yet, meaning every color is in stock. Major win. Below, shop the viral boat-neck tank top trend and get a few ideas on how to style it.

I Can’t (and Won’t) Shut Up About the 31 Quiet-Luxury Ref Items I Just Unearthed

As someone with high standards for all things fashion related, it’s a rare occurrence when I scroll through a retailer’s selection and am met with only aces. Usually, I’m digging through hundreds, even thousands of items, searching for just a few winners. But that was light years away from what I had to do when I logged onto Reformation’s website this week to check out the brand’s latest summer pieces.

Immediately upon entering the site, I was met with countless timeless and expensive-looking pieces, from halter dresses to linen trousers to elevated tees. As overused as the phrase has become, I can only accurately describe my discoveries as quiet luxury. Clean, luxe, and deserving of a few extra zeroes (though I’m not complaining that they were left off), the selection I’ve put together below from Reformation gives wealth to an absolute T. Scroll down to see what I mean.

  • Meghan Markle and Rosie HW Both Own This $890 Khaite Top, so I Found a $78 Dupe

Meghan Markle and Rosie HW Both Own This $890 Khaite Top, so I Found a $78 Dupe

Some pieces are just so good they’re worth the splurge. And while this off-the-shoulder Khaite top favored by both Meghan Markle and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is undoubtedly one of them, we’re not trying to spend our entire spring shopping budget on just one piece.

Fortunately, for those of us that have a duchess-level taste on a commoner’s budget, there’s always Reformation. The brand’s Ezlynn Knit Top evokes similar vibes to the Khaite design,  including a lightweight jersey fabric and a beautiful portrait neckline. Plus, it comes in white, black, and gray-blue, so you could buy all three for less than the cost of the original design… just saying.

Ahead, compare the $890 Khaite top with the $78 dupe, plus seven more cute tops under $100 from Reformation available now. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with these spring-friendly finds.

  • She’s in Shock! 41 New Reformation Finds That Put Me in a Genuine Trance

She’s in Shock! 41 New Reformation Finds That Put Me in a Genuine Trance

Given how much time I spend looking through clothes every day for work, I’ve built up a tolerance of sorts to the awe of it all. There was a time in my life when I couldn’t possibly have stared at beautiful things all day everyday without feeling called to indulge. But these days, my shopping guard is strong, and only on rare occasions do I stumble across items that feel really and truly too good to pass up. This is one such case.

You see, Reformation has never really been a brand that feels like me. I always associated it with linen separates and sundresses, and since I’ve never been felt comfortable in that feminine, cottagecore-adjacent aesthetic, I naturally didn’t set aside a ton of attention for the brand. But in recent years, I’ve noticed a hard shift in Reformation’s merchandise. And after scouring its most recent arrivals for spring, I’m throwing my hands up in defeat and admitting that I was wrong about the brand. Finally, I get what all the hype’s about—I’ve been converted.

Scrolling through its spring offering, I had genuine feelings of shock and awe as I grasped just how chic the items I was looking at were, especially given the mid-level price range. But there’s no need to simply take my word for it. From designer-quality footwear to dresses I’d literally get married in, see all 40 of the new Reformation items that altered my brain chemistry during my latest digital perusal.

  • Reformation Is Officially Bringing Back This ’90s Shoe Trend

Reformation Is Officially Bringing Back This ’90s Shoe Trend

By now, fashion lovers all know to expect a surge in florals for spring, but the designers at Reformation have taken it one specific step further: footwear with daisy details.

Focusing on a single flower, the humble daisy, is a smart choice since it aligns with the retro ’90s trends that have made a major comeback as of late. The simple flower motif harkens back to simpler times when one would spend hours flipping through pages of the latest Delia’s catalog and collaging with images from stacks of fashion magazines. Today, we have moved on to endless e-commerce tabs and digital vision boards, but the ethos remains the same: the 1990s were a powerful decade for fashion.

Ahead, shop a few fun pairs of shoes with daisy details, plus more fantastic footwear available now at Reformation. And, if you love the ’90s look but daisies aren’t your thing, don’t worry—there are plenty of throwback styles to quench your thirst for nostalgia.

  • I Want All of My Sweaters to Come From J.Crew and Ref—30 Styles I’m Eyeing

I Want All of My Sweaters to Come From J.Crew and Ref—30 Styles I’m Eyeing

I go through a similar cycle every single year. When fall first comes around, I avoid the sweater-and-jeans combo since I am scared that I’ll get bored of it too quickly. I opt for sweaters and miniskirts or jeans and blouses. But around January, I finally take a break from styling fabulous outfits to simply ease into my collection of sweaters and slightly flared jeans and wear the same outfit formula on repeat. Honestly, it never fails. I’ve officially reached that point, and I’m looking for ways to shake things up while still feeling comfortable. This means my closet is open and ready to receive new sweaters to play around with.

I love all of the trendy sweaters I’ve seen at fast-fashion retailers, but I’m looking for classic items that are made from high-quality fabrics and will last for seasons and seasons to come. That’s why I decided to turn to J.Crew and Reformation, and I found exactly what I was looking for. Below, see the 30 sweaters I’m considering adding to my wardrobe.

  • I Rarely Wear Black Jeans, But I’m Changing My Tune After Seeing These Outfits

I Rarely Wear Black Jeans, But I’m Changing My Tune After Seeing These Outfits

I was (fashionably) late to the jean party. My first foray into pants was experimenting with my mom’s old stirrup leggings, but beyond that, dresses and skirts were strictly my jam. Anything with separate legs felt restrictive and as far as hemlines were concerned, the shorter the better.

That all changed when I discovered vintage in high school. Turned onto the “joy of the hunt” by a friend, I became addicted to the adrenaline rush of discovering one-of-a-kind pieces. My previous grievances against pants were quickly forgotten when I fell for a pair of perfectly worn-in Levi’s. This was holy grail denim: buttery soft, slightly androgynous, and in the most perfect sky blue wash. I was hooked, and my repertoire expanded quickly: frayed cutoffs in lieu of miniskirts, indigo bootcut jeans over slip dresses. My sweaters were set aside in favor of oversized, distressed denim jackets. I’d turned into a true blue-jean baby.

Denim still factors heavily in my closet. I’m in jeans almost every day. Recently, I crossed over to the dark side. Black jeans create a totally different look, and I was keen to switch things up. Revamping my denim drawer made me feel like I was in high school again, chasing a high through different cuts and washes. If you’ve recently fallen into a denim rut, read on to revitalize your black denim spark.

I Saved a Ton of Outfit Ideas This Year—These 8 Are the Ones I Actually Tried

Despite my best efforts, I am a 34928-tabs-open-at-all-times kinda gal. The alternative might mean banishing any fun finds to purgatory, i.e. my “favorites” (yeah, right) folder. The risk of that seven-layer chocolate cake recipe, DIY hair mask, and article about the health benefits of a nightly glass of red wine (important!) never seeing the light of day again is too high.

My Instagram saves are a different story. Here, there is a method to my madness. Call me Dame Dewey Decimal. I found most of my wedding vendors, brush up on my French, and discover new beauty hacks via long scrolling sessions.

Having all this inspiration at my fingertips has also helped break me out of a closet rut. I’ve been guilty of “hating everything in my closet” more times than I can count, when I’m really just a reconfiguration or single item away from a whole new vibe. Scroll along for the ‘fits that caught my eye—and that you’ll hopefully be inspired to test-drive in the New Year. (You know the saying—new year, new…)
