Jordan Underwood x Universal Standard Is An Influencer Collaboration Done Right

    [ad_1]

Throughout my life, I’ve had to have a lot of my clothes altered because my body shape was different from the standard patterns other brands use to design their clothes. The biggest issue I’ve had with clothes,  specifically because I have Lipedema, is with the waist-to-hip ratio, as well as with my leg circumference being larger than the size that would fit my hips and waist. Folks with Lipedema typically don’t have the same tissue build-up on the waist, causing a very significant waist-to-hip ratio. This often makes clothing shopping very difficult, and, in many cases, causes us to size out of clothing lines altogether. With Jordan x US, we’re serving as many people as we can with multi-functional styles that accommodate as many body shapes and sizes as possible. When designing this collection, we decided to have all of the pieces have a drawstring at the waist, allowing folks to size up to have the leg and hips of the pieces fit looser, but not fall down or necessitate tailoring.

That’s Hot: The Dress-Over-Pants Trend Is Back And Cooler Than Ever

    [ad_1]

The dresses-over-pants of 2024 put a greater emphasis on wearability and a streamlined look, giving it a more refined feel, especially for the cooler months. The Row’s pre-spring 2025 collection makes a case for slouchy pants with lacy dresses, even styled underneath sweaters — paired with flip flops, no less. The spring/summer 2025 collections are similarly infused with this intuitive layering and quirky girl-on-the-go aesthetic, seen at Rokh and Hermès in Paris: Long, tailored tops that emulate dresses with flared or tailored pants tastefully update the mismatched feel of the early 2000s outfit combination.

“The bag appeals to consumers looking for a piece that transitions easily between casual and formal settings,” Landyn Tedrick, Fashionphile’s site merchandising specialist, tells Refinery29. “This versatility, along with its sleek and minimalist aesthetic, has made it a favorite among our younger consumers.” (Tedrick identifies Fendi’s Baguette as “the east-west bag’s biggest competitor within the luxury resale market” as “both bags offer sleek, compact designs perfect for transitioning between day and night, and both have experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to the revival of early 2000s fashion and celebrity endorsements.”)

  • Sandy Powell’s Exhibit Features Costumes From The Favourite, Carol & Shakespeare In Love

Sandy Powell’s Exhibit Features Costumes From The Favourite, Carol & Shakespeare In Love

    [ad_1]

The exhibit begins with looks from Powell’s earliest costume work — Caravaggio (1986), her first film, and Orlando (1993), the first feature she was nominated for — to her more recent projects like The Irishman. Some of the visual standouts include the dress that 11-year-old Kirsten Dunst wore in Interview with the Vampire and Jonathan Rhys Myers’ glam-rock looks from Velvet Goldmine that have been in and out of costume rental companies for the last 25-plus years (which Powell notes is the reason why the costumes look “a little bit worn”). The literal jewel of the room is the ballgown worn by Lily James in Disney’s 2015 live-action remake of Cinderella which required a team of 20 people, 550 hours, 10,000 Swarovski crystals, and 270 yards of fabric to make, the latter of which earned a Guinness World Record. (Powell’s work on Robert De Niro’s wardrobe in The Irishman also had a record number of costume changes, though she jokingly hesitates to take credit: “That’s a testament to [De Niro] because imagine having how many fittings he had to have?!”)

Print clashes don’t always have to be jarring, as proven by this season’s subtle statement pairings that featured strikingly similar prints. For spring/summer 2025, Marques’Almeida styled an outfit with contrasting floral prints, Burberry stacked various stripes from top to bottom and Dries Van Noten had us seeing spots in different hues. Meanwhile, Acne Studios clashed earth-toned plaids for some stylish, kaleidoscopic looks.

The Enduring Appeal Of A Barn Jacket, Fall’s Biggest — & Most Humble — Outerwear Trend

    [ad_1]

Though its function remains, in its current iteration, the Barn Jacket is most often used to tone down the sharp tailoring of quiet luxury, to add a down-to-earth touch, even if it comes at a sky-high price point. On the runway at Prada, for example, the jacket was styled with a knit bodysuit, red fringe skirt, and pumps. At Miu Miu, a slouchy, oversized version sat over a chunky turtleneck, a flouncy yellow midi skirt, and lace-up boots.

Of course, this level of superstardom doesn’t happen overnight. Aligne is actually four years old, but over the past 18 months it has undergone a major restructuring, shifting from its original wholesale business model (at stockists like Anthropologie and Liberty) to a direct-to-consumer brand. “When you prioritize wholesale, you lose valuable customer insights and the chance for meaningful interactions with the end consumer,” CEO Ginny Seymour, who joined the 15-woman team in 2022 as managing director, tells Refinery29. “I wanted to change that by fostering direct relationships between our brand and the people we serve.”

  • Skirts Over Jeans Is Fall’s Most Controversial Comeback Trend. Here’s Proof It Works

Skirts Over Jeans Is Fall’s Most Controversial Comeback Trend. Here’s Proof It Works

    [ad_1]

I know, I know: A mini dress isn’t technically a skirt — but tell me this doesn’t have the same indie-inspired impact. I love this party dress from the Turkish brand Maksu, but rarely have an opportunity to wear it. By adding jeans and a motorcycle jacket, I can dress it down for various occasions and wear it more often throughout the year.

  • Barrel-Leg Jeans Are Trending: How R29 Editors Style The Look For Fall

Barrel-Leg Jeans Are Trending: How R29 Editors Style The Look For Fall

    [ad_1]

“At 5’2”, I was worried that barrel jeans would swamp my petite frame (as wide-leg trousers often do). But it turns out that this style is perfect; I don’t have to hem them (as I usually have to do with jeans that don’t have a shorter inseam), and the subtle curved shape of these jeans makes me look way taller than I am (magic!). This pair in particular is so comfy, though I would recommend sizing down if, like me, you’re in between sizes, as they sit lower-waisted than anticipated.

In terms of styling, I wanted to counter the slouchy, oversized energy of the jeans with some fun, touches (and play off the cool star-patch pattern). So, instead of pairing them with a chunkier shoe silhouette, I went for my favorite ballet flats (which unexpectedly matched my cardigan), and a form-fitting baby tee that doesn’t challenge the bagginess of the trousers. As it gets colder, I’ll be swapping these out for cropped knits, colorful cowboy boots, and my favorite Penny Lane coats to add to the edgy, vintage vibe.” — Esther Newman, Affiliate Writer

5 Wardrobe Staples From The ‘How To Wear Everything’ Guide

    [ad_1]

The idea for the book came six years ago: She wanted it to be a “bible” for getting dressed. “Clothes should never be intimidating, they should always make you feel good about yourself,” she tells Refinery29. “I wanted everyone to understand what they want to wear, how they want to wear it and where they want to wear it.” In the book, Barron shares item-by-item tips for every kind of occasion, from heading to the office to going on a first date (which obviously differs from the second and third one). “The thing to remember about making use of everything in your wardrobe is that you don’t have to love everything all the time, and instead you have to know what you will love again in future, so you don’t part with it and regret it later,” Barron says.

  • The Rise and Fall of Victoria’s Secret Is More Complex Than You Realized

The Rise and Fall of Victoria’s Secret Is More Complex Than You Realized

    [ad_1]

A big shadow over the legacy of Victoria’s Secret is Jeffrey Epstein’s business relationship with Les Wexner. How did you approach that piece of the book?
LS: I think the hardest thing was deciding how much of it we wanted to devote to that, because we could have pitched this book as a book about the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein and Les Wexner. That book would’ve sold very easily, but we didn’t want to do that because the reality is Jeffrey Epstein wasn’t involved in the day-to-day Victoria’s Secret business. And so we decided, as business reporters who cover the fashion industry, that we needed to write a corporate history — and he’s not a giant part of it. So, instead of weaving him through the narrative — which I think the documentary tried to do — we decided, Let’s put that in its own chapter. We could have probably spent five more years reporting this book and maybe would’ve come up with even more revelations around that. But, it’s interesting: If you look at the trajectory of Victoria’s Secret, the trajectory of Jeffrey Epstein, and the trajectory of American culture, the three things really align. Les Wexner severed ties with him in 2007, Victoria’s Secret was on the rise until then. There was foreshadowing in the early 2000s that something might be awry with the business. It peaked in 2016, right around the time of the height of the #MeToo movement, and then it really started to have its downfall around the time that Epstein was jailed.
