    It began with a Reddit post with an alleged contract, providing an exact date when Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift would break up. This fueled even more gossip that the iconic couple — who have made debuts together on-stage at Swift’s Era’s Tourwere a so-called PR relationship.

    Online forum and social media users began to speculate whether or not Swift and Kelce’s relationship has merely been a ploy for popularity — or not. However, Travis Kelce shut down those rumors immediately by having his PR firm, Full Stop, call lawyers to confirm these documents are falsified and they will be taking action.

    It’s a sigh of relief for many as The Tortured Poet’s Department singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end haven’t called it quits. But it’s also an important sign not to believe everything you see on a Reddit thread…and luckily, this couple will never go out of style.

    A spokesman from Full Scope told The Daily Mail that the document is “entirely false and fabricated and were not created, issued or authorized by this agency.”

    ‘We have engaged our legal team to initiate proceedings against the individuals or entities responsible for the unlawful and injurious forgery of documents,’ Full Scope added.

    It’s been a busy week for Travis Kelce, who spent the summer following Taylor on tour, as he prepares for the start of NFL season on Thursday. He also just revealed the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s latest show, Grotesquerie,starring Kelce and Niecy Nash. While the trailer is sure to turn heads, we can’t help but still fear for his acting abilitiesor lack thereof!

    Trap’s Greatest Horror Is Being Confined to a Stadium of Teen and Tween Girls Worshiping the Same Taylor Swift-esque Pop Star

    Perhaps the thing that comes to mind as the most blatantly unbelievable—and, to be sure, there are many to choose from—in Trap is the idea that a Taylor Swift-esque pop star would ever use her powers for true (rather than ultimately performative) good. M. Night Shyamalan’s latest movie (the sixteenth one he’s directed, to be precise), however, would like to posit just that. The woman playing such a pop star is none other than Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka (not to be confused with his other daughter, Ishana, whose movie, The Watchers, he recently produced). Indeed, the Trap Soundtrack serves as her second full-length album, albeit under the moniker of “Lady Raven,” with generically-titled songs like “Don’t Wanna Be Yours” and “Dreamer Girl” performed during the concert that serves as the primary backdrop for most of the film’s narrative. And yes, said concert is very clearly meant to mirror (or troll, as it were) The Eras Tour, not to mention the ilk that it attracts.

    In point of fact, Shyamalan supposedly pitched the idea as: “What if The Silence of The Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?” Well, for a start, it’s a major insult to The Silence of the Lambs to compare Trap to it in any way, shape or form (where film releases of 2024 are concerned, that luxury is reserved solely for Longlegs). And, secondly, the musical style of Lady Raven is far too R&B-infused (circa the 00s) to be comparable to Swift’s typically vanilla stylings. Though one thing that is comparable between the two women is their costume choices, often awash in flowy, ethereal dresses. But, as is the case with Swift, it doesn’t really seem to matter what Lady Raven wears. To her adoring, devout fans, she can do and don no wrong. With that in mind, at one point in the movie, our “anti-hero” (read: murdering psychopath) Cooper Adams (Josh Hartnett), an “all-American dad” who works as a firefighter, remarks to a “spotter” at the concert (played by Shyamalan, who likes to pull Hitchcock-inspired cameos in his own movies) that Lady Raven has a cult-like power over the mostly tween and teenage girls who worship her—that they would listen to anything she said.

    Such a specific way of phrasing something is, of course, foreshadowing for the way in which Lady Raven will turn out to be the primary key in apprehending Cooper a.k.a. The Butcher (a serial killer nickname almost as unoriginal as Trap itself). Even though she’s already done enough on that front—certainly above and beyond what any ordinary “mega star” would do—by allowing the FBI to wield her concert date in Philadelphia as a trap for The Butcher. Who, for whatever reason, left behind a remnant of a receipt in one of his safe houses indicating that he would be at the Lady Raven show.

    The profiler heading up the investigation, Dr. Josephine Grant (Hayley Mills, who was cast literally only because she was in The Parent Trap—get it?), is, in truth, more out of her depth than she realizes once Cooper catches wind of the concert being a full-on sting operation (taking inspiration from the 1985 sting known as Operation Flagship). For, unsurprisingly, a psychopath of this level is fully capable of playing the part-time role of “family man” when he’s not out…butchering people. Hence, being the “dutiful dad” for the night by taking his twelve-year-old daughter, Riley (Ariel Donoghue), to see Lady Raven. Almost as socially awkward and gawky as the Riley of Inside Out, her obsession with Lady Raven is basically the only thing that’s getting her through her ongoing painful ostracism by a group of girls who she once considered her friends.

    Although Cooper tries his best to be “sympathetic” to Riley’s sensitivity to this often teen girl-specific plight, not only does he overtly find the concert and its audience annoying, but his attention is more than somewhat divided by the fact that he keeps noticing police officers escorting away random men at the show. Per Dr. Grant’s statistics, only three thousand men are in attendance among the twenty-thousand-plus crowd of women. On that note, the idea that such concerts, particularly The Eras Tour, are so often viewed as one of the few “safe spaces” where women can “just dance” and unapologetically exist precisely because of how repelled by such music/representations of femininity men are, has become a thing of the past. It first became one at its grandest scale in 2017, with Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour in Manchester.

    Then, it almost happened again at The Eras Tour itself, with the botched attempt at another terrorist attack in Vienna designed to kill as many female acolytes of Swift’s as possible. As one concertgoer put it in the aftermath of Swift’s subsequently cancelled Vienna dates, “There’s a feeling of inclusivity at her concerts. There are, after all, not many spaces in the world where women can go and have a drink and a dance and feel safe. It’s mainly women, children and gay men at her concerts. And now, you can no longer guarantee.”

    Lady Raven’s concert, “little did they know,” also presents just such a case of an infiltrated “last bastion” where younger girls and women alike can “feel safe,” unburdened by the fear of a psychologically wounded man’s wrath (and yes, the two-dimensional Cooper character is slapped with cliché mother issues out of the Hitchcock playbook). A concept that is, in reality, the ultimate impossibility, particularly in the United States. What’s more, despite the “hope” presented by a female candidate currently running for president (with infinitely better chances of winning than Hillary Clinton in 2016), the backlash that will inevitably result if she does win is bound to be rooted in radically enacted male chauvinism.

    And so, women in power or not, in an evermore (no Taylor pun intended) misogynistic society, to present, as a horror premise, being trapped in a stadium full of tween and teenage girls screaming and mindlessly mimicking the dance moves and lyrics of their favorite generic pop star, well, it doesn’t exactly do much to bolster the overall female reputation (that Taylor pun intended).

    The world’s most famous cat lady, Taylor Swift, doesn’t forget where she came from and who she was there with, especially if they went to cat school together. Swift announced that she had added her Cats co-star METTE, as well as Benson Boone and Griff, as openers to her Wembley Stadium shows in late June for the Eras Tour. “Thought this might be a fun time to announce the first group of opening acts I’ll be adding to the London shows, going on before Paramore. I chose artists whose music I love listening to, and I can’t wait for them to add an extra jolt of excitement to our shows,” she said in an Instagram story. Does this mean “Beautiful Ghosts” can be a surprise song now?

    Now, when Swift asked, “Are there still beautiful things?” Boone said, “Yes, I have them!” Boone has had a huge year so far, with his song “Beautiful Things” going #1 in multiple countries. Swift has been a fan of English singer Griff for a while now, first meeting at the 2021 Brit Awards, and she recently reshared Griff’s single “Vertigo,” the title track to her upcoming debut album. “8 yr old me who had fearless on repeat wouldn’t believe this,” said Griff in an Instagram caption on the news.     Nepotism – noun – the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by gifting them jobs.


    Before
    Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce was a superstar in the NFL world. The go-to tight end on the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs, the most recent dominating football franchise since Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

    And sure, Travis Kelce is a nine time Pro Bowler and seven time All-Pro selection with four of those being first team nods. He
    may hold the record for most consecutive and overall seasons with 1000 receiving yards (seven seasons strong)…but what the heck does Travis Kelce know about acting?

    Reports indicate that Travis Kelce will be acting in none other than a Ryan Murphy original. Yes,
    that Ryan Murphy – the creator of shows like American Horror Story, Dahmer, and Glee…The Ryan Murphy who has 38 Primetime Emmy noms (and six wins), two Grammy’s and a Tony just cast football professional and boyfriend of Taylor Swift in a scripted television series.

    Which TV Show Is Travis Kelce Starring In?

    The show is called
    Grotesquerie, and will also star Niecy Nash-Betts(who previously worked with Murphy on Dahmer) and Courtney B. Vance (who you may recognize from Murphy’s American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson).

    Nash-Betts confirmed the news in an Instagram shortly after
    People reported Travis Kelce’s premier acting endeavor. She says,

    “Guys, guess who I am working with on
    Grotesquerie?” the actress teased before showing Kelce, who said, “Jumping into new territory with Niecy!”

    Judging by the teaser Ryan Murphy shared, a phone call from Niecey Nash warns of something bad happening that only her character can see.

    And while Ryan Murphy has a habit of including unlikely stars in his shows (think Kim Kardashian in
    AHS), Travis Kelce’s inclusion begs a bigger question:

    After the
    nepotism baby exposure that led countless celebrities to unnecessarily defend their names, we learned a ton about the state of the industry. Publications like Rolling Stone are riddled with nepo babies whose famed parents landed them the internship. Your favorite actor, singer, model, etc. is most likely a descendant of your mom’s favorite actor, singer, or model.

    But the thing is, we already
    know that Kate Hudson is Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s kid. We know Lily Rose Depp’s parents…and the Jenners…and Angelina Jolie…and Miley Cyrus…I could go on. The point is, we didn’t care.

    In today’s entertainment industry, it’s hard
    not to find a nepo baby. But as long as they’re good at what they choose to do, no one cares. Which is why I worry for Travis Kelce.

    Travis is the face of brand deals galore. Especially since his
    New Heights podcast (alongside his brother and fellow NFL icon, Jason Kelce) is the hottest sports podcast on socials right now. Dating Taylor Swift may have been the best thing to happen to the Travis Kelce brand in general, because now he gets to go beyond sports and into bigger realms.

    The 34-year-old KC Chiefs’ tight end’s previous TV endeavors include a cringe-worthy dating show called
    Catching Kelce and hosting Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?

    So, yes, the question must be raised: can Travis even act? If we’re being completely honest, I can’t guarantee that answer. Murphy has a way of making any non-actor
    (see: Kardashian) into a passable star with camp lines and witty delivery…but I’m worried about Kelce.

    Let’s all admit that when he began dating Swift, Travis Kelce got catapulted into superstardom as the
    First Boyfriend of The Era’s Tour… But have we taken it too far by launching an acting career? Is there a time when we should stay in our respective lanes?

    I’m all for Travis getting the recognition he deserves..and I think the Kelces are
    our Royal Family…but I’d rather see a Keeping Up With The Kelces moment than watch Travis potentially fail at acting.

    What would make sense? Travis Kelce in couture runway settings, or collaborating with high fashion brands to create exclusive lines. Travis and his family having their own reality show. Expanding their football empire in a number of ways.

    What doesn’t really make sense? Casting Travis in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie…but you bet I’ll be tuning in anyway.

    Here’s What Taylor Swift Changed For The European Leg Of The Eras Tour

    If you’re a diehard Swiftie like us, your immediate reaction to learning the title of ‘Who’s Afraid Of Little Old Me?’ was probably “me, Taylor.” Which is totally understandable! We’ve been following along with the Eras Tour for over a year and she still finds new ways to surprise us. And the European leg is like a new show entirely, now that we have The Tortured Poets Department in our lives.

    Let’s take a look at what changed throughout the show and its setlist, one era at a time! These changes are accurate as of the first night in Paris on May 9th, 2024.

    Pre-Show Playlist

    First off, the changes started before Taylor even took the stage! Taylor added three new songs to the playlist that echoes throughout the venue before she goes on. 

    The Intro

    The nostalgic Eras Tour intro includes Taylor saying the name of each era, so naturally, she had to add in The Tortured Poets Department! Listen closely and you’ll hear her say the album name between the 1989 quote and Red album title. 

    Lover

    At the first show in Paris, Taylor unveiled a new orange and magenta bodysuit with matching boots! Not much changed throughout this set, but we did lose ‘The Archer.’ We thank her for her service! The closing song is now ‘Lover’ with an extended outro. 

    Fearless 

    Thankfully, since the Fearless set is only three songs, Taylor didn’t rearrange anything! Again at the first Paris show, she revealed a new black, silver, and gold fringe dress that we think pays homage to the iconic fringe dress she wore on the 2009 Fearless Tour. We’re not crying, there’s just something sparkly in our eye.

    Red 

    The first major change of the show is that the Red set is now the third era in line, instead of evermore! The setlist remained the same aside from the switch in its placement. We also got a new ‘22’ shirt saying “this isn’t Taylor’s Version,” which we’ll need for when we’re out in public and mumble under our breaths about how a store is playing the wrong version of her music.

    Speak Now

    Taylor really brought us back to the Speak Now World Tour with the refreshed version of the Speak Now set! Unfortunately, we’re back to it being only one song, but we can’t complain too much because we adore ‘Enchanted.’ Before Taylor takes the stage, the screens show updated visuals with stunning flowers, and the dancers come out to keep the crowd entertained.

    At the opening night of the European leg in Paris, Taylor had the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever and give every era a new costume except reputation. And she did it! Nothing changed during this set – not even the red and black snake bodysuit – so all you fellow rep stans out there are safe.

    folklore & evermore

    The sets with the most change are folklore and evermore, which have been combined! But we did lose the ‘seven’ spoken interlude as a result. As Taylor explained it in Paris, she “reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter.” Even the new Paris costume combined the eras, giving us the folklore style with a golden yellow color like the evermore dress. We think it makes perfect sense and we love getting to hear them together. Some sacrifices, though: ‘tis the damn season,’ ‘tolerate it,’ ‘invisible string’-slash-’the 1,’ and ‘the last great american dynasty.’

    The visuals between everlore/folkmore and 1989 have the same concept as the folklore1989 transition from the first leg, but they go from a mountain scene to a bright city rather than centering around the folklore cabin. No setlist changes here, though we got a new costume combination! Taylor wore a glittery pink top with a blue skirt in Paris, complete with one pink boot and one blue boot. It honestly reminds us of the mix-and-match jackets and skirts she wore on the original 1989 Tour, and we’re so excited to see what combos she wears in the future. 

    For the first time ever, Taylor leaves the stage after the 1989 set instead of staying on for surprise songs!

    The Tortured Poets Department 

    Welcome to the Eras Tour setlist, TTPD! We had our fingers crossed for you and you so delivered. The set starts with a screen visual that draws from the ‘Fortnight’ music video, complete with a road, cages, and even papers falling from the sky. There’s also a little snippet where she sings the “oh, oh, oh” from the chorus of ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.’

    Taylor described the album as “Female Rage: The Musical” in Paris, so it’s no surprise that this section is really theatrical. There’s even a skit before ‘I Can Do It With A Broken Heart’ where she collapses on the floor, then has to get all dressed up in a new outfit to put on a show. And keep an eye on the visuals during ‘ICDIWABH,’ because there are nods to songs like ‘Peter.’

    We’re so excited that Midnights can still be the closing set of the Eras Tour! The setlist stayed the same, though Paris got a new blue bodysuit with cutouts. We couldn’t think of a better ending for the show, especially with this ‘Karma’ lyric:

We’ve seen the superstar get past a few different mistakes with her “the show must go on” attitude ever since the tour started last year — and she continues to prove time and time again nothing will stop her from delivering the very best for her fans!

    On Wednesday, a short clip started circulating on X (Twitter) showcasing Tay Tay’s latest Vigilante S**t performance in Japan during the Midnights portion of her concert. If you’ve seen the show, you know this set is HAWT! The 34-year-old and her dancers shake their butts and spin around on chairs as she sings the ballad. It’s SPICY as hell — but not as easy as it looks!

    In the clip, Taylor is supposed to squat down, legs wide, onto her chair — eyes never leaving the audience as she sings. But either the chair wasn’t in quite the right spot or she wasn’t. She apparently just missed the chair and nearly fell to the ground! We said “nearly” though. The amazing part was, she was able to hold the squat without breaking a sweat despite there being no chair beneath her to keep her leverage! OMG!

    Get ready, Swifties. Disney just announced that “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting March 15.

    The concert film will include the song “cardigan” and four additional acoustic songs.

    The history-making, cinematic experience from the 14-time Grammy-winning artist was directed by Sam Wrench. It grossed more than $260 million worldwide at the global box office, making it the top selling concert film of all-time.

    In making the announcement Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “‘The Eras Tour’ has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+.”

    Disney is the parent company of Disney+ and this station.

    After the Rio de Janeiro Debacle, Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Continues to Accent the Idea Not Only is Concert-Going An Extreme Sport, But That Fans Are Peons and Their Idols Are Aristocrats

    For most Americans, the stadium tour “experience” is already something of a nightmare/competitive sport. And yes, concert-going in general has become more competitive in the last decade. Chalk it up to the worst aspects of capitalism (not to mention “doing it for the social media post”) infecting it to the point of no return. And perhaps the biggest symptom of that is Live Nation Entertainment’s monopoly over ticket sales via Ticketmaster. A glaring spotlight was put on the company’s market control, relentless promotion of would-be elitism and overall inefficacy by none other than Taylor Swift herself when, in 2022, the singer crashed the website due to the overwhelming demand to see a tour so basic and lacking in any political statements (particularly when compared to Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour and Madonna’s The Celebration Tour). But it wasn’t just in the U.S. that “Swiftmania” took hold. Throughout the globe, various Swifties were determined to see their idol in concert. And that’s why Swift kept adding more dates on the map of her The Eras Tour journey (if you express the demand, she will supply). Among the latest round being Rio de Janeiro. A city not always known for being “inviting” or “appealing” to Americans. At least in terms of providing the many “creature comforts” they’ve grown accustomed to back in the “US and A” (to use a Borat parlance). As for Brazilians themselves, the cutthroat, “jank” nature of existence is par for their course. Especially when it comes to the concert-going experience. 

    And yet, despite all that grit compared to Americans who actually expect to have an assigned seat and access to water whenever they want (whatever the cost!), even Brazilians were having a hard time enduring the conditions of The Eras Tour in Rio de Janeiro. For it was bad enough that the heat index on November 17th—the first night of The Eras Tour in Rio—was a hellacious 138.74 degrees Fahrenheit, but, to compound that issue, T4F (the Brazilian edition of Ticketmaster that ironically stands for “Time 4 Fun”) refused to let concertgoers bring water bottles into the venue, citing “security concerns.” Maybe for the very reason that airlines banned liquids on planes starting in 2006: they were afraid someone might try to turn those liquids into explosives. Rio does have a reputation (no Taylor reference intended), after all. Particularly in the eyes of dainty American residents who see the country as lawless and crime-ridden. And yet, there’s no doubt that certain American Swifties might have traveled to Brazil just for The Eras Tour. Heat and bodily harm risks be damned! And that’s saying a lot for the largely white female demographic that worships Swift enough to make the most dangerous trek of their lives (aside from venturing out of any part of New York that isn’t Times Square). Indeed, the U.S. Department of State currently describes Brazil as follows: “Violent crime, such as murder, armed robbery and carjacking, is common in urban areas, day and night. Gang activity and organized crime is widespread. Assaults, including with sedatives and drugs placed in drinks, are common. U.S. government personnel are discouraged from using municipal buses in all parts of Brazil due to an elevated risk of robbery and assault at any time of day, and especially at night.” Already painting a nightmarish picture without adding to that image the hordes of dehydrated and demoralized crowds waiting all day for Swift to take the stage, what you’ve got on your hands is nothing short of a Boschian tableau. 

    But those who live in Rio, they should just accept these conditions, right? For the errant American foolish enough to travel to Brazil and actually pay to endure this horror show, well, they can just go right back to the U.S. and cleanse themselves with a more “civilized” concert-going experience next time. Ah, but that’s the self-delusion of American thinking. The whole “it can’t happen here” idea. It applies just as much to shitty concert accommodations as it does to fascism. But, as the U.S. and its so-called “Cadillac of concert-going” options have seen during instances like Altamont, Woodstock 99 (complete with multiple sexual assaults, including a gang rape during Korn’s set) and, most recently, Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, it happens there all the time. 

    It was, oddly enough, at Woodstock 99 where the forbidding of water was most intense among the three aforementioned examples of nightmare concert experiences. As Kurt Loder, reporting on the event for MTV News at the time, said, “​​To get in, you get frisked to make sure you’re not bringing in any water or food that would prevent you from buying from their outrageously priced booths. You wallow around in garbage and human waste. There was a palpable mood of anger.” An anger that can’t be quelled in concert scenarios like these, no matter how much “love” the fans have for the performer. In point of fact, it’s quite easy for the greatest fan love to turn to hate and contempt in conditions such as these, where one looks to cast blame on someone, anyone for the hellscape they had to not only bear witness to, but also escape from. 

    Some fans, however, would not be so lucky as to make that escape. In the case of the November 19th date of The Eras Tour, one of those fans included ​​twenty-five-year-old Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, who was stabbed after the show in the small hours of Monday morning on a Copacabana beach (located roughly one hour from the venue). While some would say that’s no fault of Swift’s, it still relates to the lack of safety involved in concert-going in general and in Brazil in particular. 

    Two days earlier, on November 17th, twenty-three-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado died of cardiac arrest spurred by the intense heat and lack of water. The universe’s sadistic sense of humor seemed to be in full effect in terms of how Benevides passed out during Swift’s performance of “Cruel Summer.” Of all the songs she could have expired to, this was probably the most uncanny and taunting. 

    The outrage following her death included the demand for free water to be made available to those in attendance at Swift’s shows, and any show for that matter. Underscoring that, for all the money that fans pay to see a performer, they’re treated little better than cattle shoved into a boxcar. Effectively “paying to be treated like shit.” And while Swift does her best to fortify the parasocial dynamic that has made her a billionaire, there’s only so much a fan can take. This much was obvious when, the following day, when the temperature had spiked even higher, Swift opted to cancel the show just hours before it was slated to go on. By that time, thousands upon thousands of fans had already queued in line/converged upon Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos to wait for her to take the stage again. And they didn’t come unprepared to suffer, with one fan calling out the fact that she wore a diaper so as to avoid leaving the line to go to the bathroom. The fan posted a video documenting her rage over the fact that Swift didn’t make her intentions known sooner, fully aware at this juncture of the treks involved for people to get to the venue, with many taking plane and bus rides to arrive there. So it was that the fan derided, “Can you see how much I’m sweating, how all the pores in my body are dilated from the sweat? I’m wearing a diaper, a geriatric diaper. Come on stage, I want to see you!” This strange mix of disdain and devotion is at the heart of the saying, “There’s a fine love between love and hate.” As well as a fine line between love and obsession; hate and obsession. 

    In any event, Swift, from her aristocratic perch, likely thought she was playing by the book by postponing the show instead of subjecting her audience to more scorching suffocation and dehydration. And yet, if she had given true thought to any of this, it might have occurred to her not to schedule the tour dates at the apex of Brazil’s summer. 

    Nonetheless, Swift has still emerged from the fiasco (to use an understatement) with a halo around her head. Somehow managing to set off yet another political movement despite being mostly apolitical herself, as the drama surrounding the concert from the outset prompted Brazilian lawmakers to propose the “Taylor Swift Law,” a piece of legislation designed to penalize scalpers for reselling tickets with four years of jail time and up to one hundred times the valued amount of the ticket in fines. This after scalpers used violence and terrorization to cut the lines at the box office in both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo so they could resell at muggers’ prices. Ah, and speaking of muggings, a rash of them occurred after Swift decided not to go forward with the planned show on the 18th, giving rise to making her crushed, overheated fans targets for pickpocketing as they grudgingly left from the venue. While some took refuge from the danger inside a nearby Burger King, it turned out to be little safer than the outside world as the police proceeded to raid the establishment. Those able to make it inside of a taxi to leave were, of course, heavily overcharged for the price of their flight from Swiftian hell.  

    The night before, amid chants of “water, water, water,” Swift “assured” the fans they didn’t need to chant—water was coming (side note: it wasn’t, as only a handful of lucky ones were able to secure bottles from Swift’s team). During another portion of the show, she can be seen launching a bottle of water into the crowd like Trump launching paper towels at Puerto Ricans. Because, evidently, it’s okay for the performer to hurtle heavy objects into the audience (for a “good cause”), but that sentiment doesn’t cut both ways, as Swift made clear to her Argentinian fans a week before setting up in Rio. Instead, Swift has been painted as a beneficent soul just trying to make the best of a ghetto situation. And yeah, that’s how Americans would view it: ghetto as fuck. Whereas Brazilians are forced to withstand these conditions if they want a chance at seeing their favorite pop star perform live. And so, in another unwitting political move on Swift’s part, she’s managed to put pressure on an organization like T4F to improve the concert-going experience for Brazilian patrons. Alas, if even the U.S. hasn’t done shit to change things with Ticketmaster, the likelihood of real change with T4F seems even more remote. 

    Thus, the aristocrat-peon relationship will probably persist in any concert situation (that is, when it isn’t inversely employer-employee). With the beloved idol in question looking down at the peon-fans from on high just trying to “do their job” while ignoring the many-layered affronts happening from within the trenches of the crowd.

    On Friday, the 33-year-old singer and the 34-year-old football player, who flew to Argentina to be with her during his bye week,  went on a dinner date to Elena, a restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel. And the couple was not alone on their outing! Taylor’s father, Scott Kingsley Swift, joined her and Travis at the eatery! First, she hung out with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, at his games. Now she’s introducing Trav to her dad?! Things seem to be getting serious, y’all!

    Every Taylor Swift fan has at least once jumped around to Shake It Off — but when over 72,000 Swifties dance together, the outcome is (literally) seismic.

    When Swift, 33, performed two nights at Lumen Field in Seattle last weekend, she and her fans created seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3-magnitude earthquake, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach.

    The Seattle Times, which spoke to Caplan-Auerbach, reported the seismic activity persisted throughout the entirety of the singer’s three-and-a-half-hour concert. Both nights, the largest tremors came during Swift’s performances of Shake It Off and Blank Space — two fan favourites guaranteed to get the crowd moving.

    Caplan-Auerbach has named the event the “Swift Quake.” She compared the seismic activity to the well-known “Beast Quake” of 2011, when Seattle Seahawks fans triggered seismic activity equivalent to a 2.0 magnitude earthquake while celebrating a touchdown from running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch.

    The 0.3 increase from Swift’s concert made the event twice as strong as the “Beast Quake,” claimed Caplan-Auerbach.

    Swift’s July 22 and July 23 shows were both sold out, with reportedly 72,171 concertgoers in attendance. Her Era Tour concert at Lumen broke a record previously set by the Irish band U2, who had 70,000 fans attend their show in 2011. Swift is also reportedly the first artist to sell out Lumen Field on consecutive nights.

    Caplan-Auerbach said she captured the data from a seismometer located next to Lumen Field. She said the timing of the tremors caused by the Swift concert correlates to the artist’s set list from both nights. Though there was a 26-minute delay before the Sunday concert, the seismic activity from the concerts is similar when overlaid.

    After the two shows, Swift thanked her fans on Instagram for “cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs” with her in Seattle.

    It cannot be said for certain whether the seismic activity was caused by soundwaves generated from a bass, subwoofers, jumping fans or a combination of factors.

    Caplan-Auerbach and her colleagues have asked Swifties who attended either of the Seattle concerts to share videos and timestamps of the shows for a more fulsome understanding of the seismic event.

    The team is continuing to research tremors and concerts — and appears to be especially excited for Beyoncé’s upcoming visit to Lumen Field in September.

    Swift’s 52-date Eras Tour may gross a whopping US$620 million by its completion, according to Forbes.

    The Eras Tour and the Obvious Connection Between Presales and Selling Would-Be Elitism

    As Taylor Swift reckons yet again with having the kind of clout that could invoke the swarming of various attorneys general onto Live Nation and Ticketmaster, another deeper issue has come to the surface in the wake of The Eras Tour presale. That issue being, well, presales are founded on the very principle that has wrought so much havoc in this society: elitism. The idea that if you assert yourself as being some kind of “VIP” by spending the money to be as such (whether it’s through paying to exist within a fan club or having an American Express), you can get whatever you want. Money buys everything. That’s the “benefit” of capitalism. Especially for pop stars who know the power of their worth to fans in a parasocial relationship with them. No one knows that worth better than Swift.

    Maybe that’s why she included in her statement on the matter in the aftermath, “It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.” Nonetheless, Swift and other performers are left with little choice but to rely on Ticketmaster for their concert ticket sales. After all, the “entity” and its parent company, Live Nation, control roughly seventy percent of the live ticketing marketplace. Something that might have been prevented twelve years ago upon the sealing of the merger, but that no one appeared too bothered by at the time. Nor has the notion of “presales” seemed to vex any ticket buyers over the years. Instead, music enthusiasts ostensibly relish the opportunity to jump ahead in the proverbial queue. It gives them a delight to know that they’re “beating” other fans to some worshipping-in-person punch.

    As Ticketmaster “politely” describes the concept of a presale, they’re “usually sold from a separate allocation of seats, which may not be the same as the tickets being released to the general public.” This implies, of course, that a bulk of objectively “better” tickets are made available to those “elite” ones. Or, at least, the ones who believe in the American concept that class can be bought (something the British are only slowly coming around to). In the case of Swift’s presale, it’s not about having an AmEx card, but a Capital One card. For Swift, like any adept capitalist, is obliged to cross-promote her endorsement deal with said credit card company. And it was this demographic of Capital One cardholders for whom the second wave of presale tickets catered to as Ticketmaster tried again to lead more casual fans down a primrose path to “hell.” Hell to “First World” ilk inferring that they have to stare at a screen and watch the clock count down the minutes as they “wait in line” for their turn to buy.

    Considering the second presale was meant to commence on Tuesday, November 15th, but was pushed back to Wednesday, it’s clear Ticketmaster persisted in its ill-preparedness and incompetence… once again. So much, in fact, that the ticket sale intended for the general public had to be cancelled. Who needs “average” buyers anyway, when one can sell millions of tickets to “special” people without them? And yet, perhaps there wouldn’t be false ideas of “specialness” if presales were abolished altogether. If everyone was “allowed” the same opportunity to purchase concert tickets at the same time, surely the initial bum-rush wouldn’t be so intense as a result of everyone viewing these lots of tickets as inherently better by sheer virtue of being able to choose from them “first.”

    To this end, juggernauts like Ticketmaster are possibly only feeding into what the people “want.” Or rather, what they want to believe about themselves. That they are somehow more superior to others—a more “diehard” fan, etc.—and should be given the divine right to access the best seats before the hoi polloi. By this logic, one could ask if Ticketmaster can fully be blamed for driving the bloodlust for presales. The answer is, if you don’t build it, they will not come. In short, permitting 3.5 million customers to register for the presale hardly makes anyone feel “special” regarding their preliminary access to tickets. And, the way the presale went, it only served to remind that it is forever people with “real” influence who can actually get what they want easily.

    What’s more, Swift is no stranger to invoking political imbroglios, which began when she finally decided to grow a political voice and speak out against the election of Marsha Blackburn in October of 2018, when the U.S. was faced with yet another extremely close midterm election. Evidencing her power to make website usage surge, in the two days after Swift posted about the importance of registering to vote, vote.org saw a spike of 102,000 new voters registering (seventy percent of whom were under the age of twenty-five). And yes, they knew it was attributable to Swift telling her hundreds of millions of followers, “So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned eighteen in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting!” Cue the onslaught of registering voters. But hundreds of thousands are nothing compared to millions, which, evidently, even the strongest of interfaces can’t withstand.

    With Swift’s popularity manifested anew amid The Eras Tour presale, a fresh spotlight was placed on something political. She being the catalyst for politicians to weigh in on a pop cultural matter (even though government and pop culture have been enmeshed for quite some time—*cough cough* Marilyn and JFK). Specifically, the inability of customers to go elsewhere for their tickets making it all the more apparent in this particular scenario that Ticketmaster’s 2010 merger with Live Nation constitutes a monopoly in violation of antitrust laws. The insanity of trying to secure a presale seat prompted Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar to remark, “When there is no competition to incentivize better services and fair prices, we all suffer the consequences.” And yes, what a “tragic” consequence—not being able to attend a little stadium concert.

    Even the presidential level of government weighed in via a quote that Joe Biden said earlier this year. One dredged up by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who reminded, “Capitalism without competition isn’t capitalism; it’s exploitation.” Does anyone have the heart to tell Biden that capitalism is full-stop exploitation no matter what? Oh well. There’s no stopping this system until it implodes anyway—and Swift’s presale tickets were yet another harbinger of that inevitable implosion. The patent unsustainability of “everyone” (read: a lotta white folks who listen to Swift) wanting to be “elite.”

    This largely due to the American dream still being peddled—the one that insists each person can have a piece of the “pie.” Just not the Taylor pie. Or any other, for that matter. Because the greatest lie ever sold is that “everyone” can be “elite” when the entire reason the “genuine” elite (a.k.a. those with generational wealth) relish being such is because no one else will actually be “let in.” Ergo making the Ticketmaster fiasco a prime example of middle-class aims turning out to be too relatively lofty.

    Swift might do her best to shirk any blame (what with having a song called “Don’t Blame Me” and only admitting to being “the problem” in “Anti-Hero”), but surely she must have some say in kiboshing such Ticketmaster disclaimers as, “Ticket prices may fluctuate, based on demand, at any time.” For this is the woman who can bring down (or at least bring into question) entire institutions with a single post. Even so, Swift herself isn’t immune to the temptations of “more money,” with Forbes commenting of the ticket sale setup, “Swift could have put Swifties’ names on the concert tickets, set a fair price and turned off the resale market… she did not do this because it would not ‘have been as profitable.’”

    Thus, perhaps as her on-again off-again foil, Billie Eilish, is known for touting, maybe Swift truly believes that, regarding some “catering-to-the-little-people-pretending-to-be-VIP” matters, it’s “not my responsibility.” For music, whether “art” or not, remains a cold, hard commodity in the undiscerning eyes of the “free” market.

    If trying to buy tickets to Taylor Swift‘s upcoming tour felt like “going through several bear attacks,” the Blank Space singer agrees with you.

    In a statement posted to Swift’s Instagram account on Friday, the singer criticized Ticketmaster‘s messy handling of ticket sales for her upcoming The Eras Tour.

    On Thursday, Ticketmaster cancelled the general public sale after hellish presales left fans experiencing technical difficulties on the company’s website and waiting several hours in queues, only to be unable to make a purchase.

    In her statement, Swift, 32, wrote that she asked Ticketmaster “multiple times if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could.”

    She claimed it was “excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.”

    The singer said she has always been “extremely protective” of her fans. She claimed to have brought several elements of her career to her own in-house team over the last few years “SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team.”

    Swift and her teams are currently working “to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward,” she wrote.

    She also echoed earlier data provided by Ticketmaster that said more than 2.4 million tickets had already been sold for The Eras Tour. She said those who did obtain tickets must have felt like they “went through several bear attacks to get them.”

    These tickets were sold as a part of presales on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    In her statement’s conclusion, Swift addressed the thousands (if not millions) of disappointed fans who did not score tickets. It did not offer an alternative method of acquiring tickets, or really any other option other than accepting that you won’t be seeing her on tour.

    “And to those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means,” she wrote.

    On Thursday, Ticketmaster broke the hearts of Swifties everywhere when the company tweeted out the news of the general sale’s cancellation.

    “Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled,” the company wrote.

    It remains unclear if the public sale will be rescheduled at some point or if it’s cancelled entirely.

    During Tuesday’s “Verified Fan” presale (an attempt by Ticketmaster to limit the number of scalpers and bots buying tickets to popular shows), fans experienced confusing technical outages and queue wait times of up to eight hours.

    A Ticketmaster spokesperson told Variety the site’s technical issues were a result of a “staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn’t have invite codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site.” The company said this led to “3.5 billion total system requests — 4x our previous peak.”

    By Wednesday, tickets had been pushed onto resale websites like StubHub for tens of thousands of dollars. Reuters reported some early ticketholders were trying to sell their seats for as much as US$28,000 ($37,430).

    Originally priced tickets ranged from US$49 ($65) to $449 ($600) each.

    The upcoming tour will see Swift, 32, perform 52 shows across the U.S. There are no Canadian dates on Swift’s upcoming tour, but many fans north of the border had planned on heading south to catch a show — but maybe not at these prices.

    Ticketmaster merged with Live Nation in 2010, resulting in control of more than 70 per cent of the primary ticketing and live event venues market.

    Swift released her latest album, Midnights, in October. The U.S. tour is scheduled to start in March 2023 and end in August.

    Within mere hours of posting this article, two major things have happened: Taylor Swift publicly condemned Ticketmaster, who apparently promised they were equipped to handle such demand, and the Department of Justice has agreed to launch investigation into the monopolistic website.

    The downfall of Twitter and Elon…the downfall of Ticketmaster….who’s next?

    When Taylor Swift announced The Eras Tour, millions of fans flocked to Ticketmaster to sign up for a chance to win the Verified Fan presale code…myself included. I waited in a three-hour line just to enter my information and cross my fingers that a website randomly selects my name for a code to buy tickets.


    I was less surprised when I didn’t receive a Verified Fan code…but no matter! In my clutches was a Capital One credit card, which guaranteed me a chance at tickets to see Taylor. I was super encouraged. Until I waited another three hours in a queue only to be informed tickets were sold out.

    For a while, I’ve been an active advocate for abolishing Ticketmaster’s monopoly on the live entertainment ticket market. I’m used to waiting in an hour-long queue to fight for the chance at one face-value ticket for Harry Styles. If you don’t nab a face-value ticket, then you’re looking at paying $1,000 per. Seat. Thanks to money-grubbing resellers.

    Things went from bad to worse when a reported 14 million people flooded Ticketmaster to purchase Taylor Swift tickets. Since Ticketmaster’s merger with Live Nation in 2010, the website has complete control over tickets…making it virtually impossible to access a face-value ticket.

    Not only was the The Eras Tour presale such a cataclysmic debacle that Capital One postponed their presale for 24-hours…the general sale has been canceled because Ticketmaster sold 2 million tickets during the presale. Swift’s previous Reputation Stadium Tour sold 2.8 million tickets in total.

    Ticketmaster has drawn national attention due to this blatant robbery. Politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are calling for the Department of Justice to look into this un-checked monopoly. For now, I will stream Midnights and pretend I’m in a stadium with Taylor.

    During a pre-sale on Tuesday, Swift fans were met with overwhelming wait times and technical issues on Ticketmaster’s website when they attempted to make a purchase. Though the company said it tried to work quickly to address any problems as a result of the overwhelming ticket demand, some eager Swifties waited up to eight hours to try and purchase tickets through Ticketmaster on Tuesday.

    Tuesday’s “Verified Fan” presale (a system used by many popular artists) provides special digital codes to certain fans to buy tickets before a general, public sale. It is intended to deter scalpers and bots from purchasing tickets, though the success of Verified Fan pre-sales is unclear.

    Ticketmaster released a statement that claimed Tuesday’s presale resulted in “historically unprecedented demand.” It said millions of people joined the queue to try and purchase tickets.

    A new round of Swift ticket presales, for Capital One credit card holders, proceeded on Wednesday with fewer complaints on social media. Some fans said wait times stretched past three hours in online queues, and many left empty-handed when ticket allotments sold out.

    Ticketmaster merged with Live Nation in 2010, resulting in control of more than 70 per cent of the primary ticketing and live event venues market.

    On Wednesday, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said he would investigate customer complaints about Ticketmaster.

    Though Ticketmaster has not been accused of misconduct, Skrmetti said at a press conference that a lack of competition could be leading to higher ticket prices and poor customer service, Bloomberg reported.

    Democratic New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also criticized the 2010 Ticketmaster and Live Nation merger. On Twitter, she claimed Ticketmaster “is a monopoly.” She said the Ticketmaster-Live Nation merger “should never have been approved.”

    Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal also tweeted about the Swift ticket snafu, writing that it “is a perfect example of how the Live Nation/Ticketmaster merger harms consumers by creating a near-monopoly.”

    Across social media, Swift’s fans have loudly chided Ticketmaster and the resale market, claiming greedy companies and opportunistic scalpers are taking advantage of the artist’s dedicated fanbase.
