    Coastal Grandma Aesthetic

This post will teach you how to achieve the Coastal Grandma aesthetic, with coastal grandma style clothing, outfit ideas, and style tips.

If you’re on social media, you know how viral trends come and go. But a “viral” trend that has staying power? That would be the Coastal Grandma aesthetic.

Though this aesthetic is a current “trend,” it doesn’t involve trendy clothing — which is a good thing! This look involves classic, classy items that are indeed inspired by grandmothers but ones with style (of course).

Creator Lex Nicoleta coined the term “Coastal Grandmother” last year, and it’s been a hit ever since. I mean, who wouldn’t want to channel Meryl Streep or Diane Keaton in a Nancy Meyers movie when getting dressed?

The Coastal Grandma really thrives during the summertime: activities like boating, tending to the garden, strolling along the beach… these are the vibes we are dressing for with this aesthetic.

So, if you’re ready to embrace the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic (or just curious to find out more about it), read on for the trend breakdown, along with the cutest, affordable Coastal Grandma outfits and Coastal Granda style clothing to try out this summer.

Key Elements of Coastal Grandma Style

    • Neutrals, neutrals, neutrals! This aesthetic is all about neutrals and soft colors, so stay away from anything super bright or vibrant (that goes for patterns and prints, too). Instead, opt for beige, light gray, light blue, and shades of white and cream.
    • Classic clothing pieces are key. Avoid trendy clothing and instead invest in timeless items like button-down shirts, trouser pants, cable knit sweaters, trench coats, and other pieces that stand the test of time. Avoid bold prints and opt for classic stripes instead.
    • Go for comfortable, oversized, and/or loose-fitting clothing. This aesthetic favors pieces like oversized sweaters, flowy pants and trousers, and loose button-down shirts. Stay away from tight pants or dresses, ultra-cropped tops, and super mini skirts — this is a “Grandma”-“-inspired aesthetic, after all.
    • Natural fabrics are what add to the “coastal” element of this aesthetic; materials like linen and cotton have a breezy vibe that feels relaxed, making them the perfect basis for your Coastal Grandma outfits. Materials like raffia and straw are also natural and add a beachy touch.

Styling Tips for Coastal Granma Style

    • Play with different textures for a stylish look. For example, pair a chunky knit sweater with some lightweight linen pants, or wear a cotton dress with a straw or rattan handbag for contrast.
    • Layer knitwear over your outfits for a sophisticated vibe. A cardigan sweater wrapped loosely around your shoulders adds an instant touch of effortless sophistication and is Coastal Grandma-approved.
    • Avoid trendy accessories. Opt for simple yet classic pieces to enhance your outfits without taking away from them.

Coastal Grandma Outfit Ideas and Clothing

    Neutral and Soft Color Palettes

The Coastal Grandma prefers a soft, neutral color palette that is calming and beachy, paired with relaxed fits.

These neutral wide-leg pants with a comfortable drawstring waist are perfect for strolls along the shore (or just hanging out) and are made from a lightweight, natural fabric that is in line with the Coastal Grandma aesthetic.

Wear them with an equally lightweight and loose-fitting boat neck sweater in a similar cream color — this one features a mohair blend material with a boat neck that adds to its appeal.

Comfort is key for the Coastal Grandma aesthetic, so skip the uncomfortable heels or sandals and opt for some bone leather double-strap footbed sandals with buckle details.

Enhance the ensemble with beachy (yet minimal) accessories like some small gold shell stud earrings, a baroque pearl bracelet, and a canvas tote bag with a cute seashell graphic print.

    Beige Striped Sweater

Creams, beiges, whites, and off-whites are mainstays in a Coastal Grandmother’s wardrobe, and this lightweight pullover sweater is a perfect example of the aesthetic’s color palette.

With a relaxed fit and linked seams, this knit can be worn alone or over a white button-down shirt.

    Timeless and Classic Pieces

You can never go wrong with timeless and classic clothing pieces, especially for the Coastal Grandffma aesthetic.

Start with a striped button-down shirt with neutral hues, like this affordable linen option that has an oversized fit. Tuck it into some beige linen-blend shorts, and break up the neutrals with a classic brown leather belt.

Accessories are a great way to infuse your outfit with a coastal feel, and these gold shell earrings with pearls will do just the trick, along with a summery straw basket bag. This one has woven brown leather handles that tie into the brown leather belt for a cohesive look. A pair of raffia slide sandals with a footbed will keep you comfortable while adding another beachy touch.

    White Button Down Shirt

I probably don’t need to convince you on why everyone should have a classic white button-down shirt in their wardrobe, but if I did, I would start off by saying that it’s one of the most timeless clothing items anyone could own.

The Coastal Grandmother knows this all too well, and often styles looks around this must-have — especially a 100% cotton shirt, like the one above.

    Nautical Vibes

Doesn’t this outfit make you want to take a beach stroll or explore a cute coastal town?

This cozy knit hoodie has major nautical vibes thanks to its blue and white stripes and relaxed fit. It has an airy, medium-gauge knit construction that makes it ideal for a breezy summer evening.

Wear it with some white linen shorts that have a flowy, relaxed fit and a comfortable drawstring waistband. This straw tote bag is beyond adorable, with a blue and white striped interior (another nautical touch), white leather handles, and a customizable monogram. Use it as your handbag, bring it to the beach, or take it on a boat — its quite versatile no matter what summer activities are on your agenda.

Some beachy raffia slide sandals with a short flatform heel and blue clover earrings complete the ensemble.

Blue & White Striped Linen Midi Dress

This blue and white striped midi dress is giving total coastal chic, with its nautical-inspired stripes and natural linen blend fabric.

Wear this frock on a hot day — its breezy design and lightweight material is going to help you stay cool while looking polished. Be sure to accessorize with a straw or woven bag, sunglasses with a classic shape, and cute sandals.

    Comfortable & Loose-Fitting Clothing

As a Coastal Grandma, you should look like you’re ready to hop on a boat or take a beachside stroll at any given moment — and this outfit fits the bill.

These loose-fitting blue and white striped pants are not only incredibly on-trend this season, but have a relaxed, nautical look that is perfect for this aesthetic. Wear them with a slouchy knit, like this navy blue American flag sweater that you could always throw on over a tank top.

Some suede clogs with a footbed are a comfy shoe choice that reflects the easy-going nature of the Coastal Grandma. Bring the outfit together with some oval metal sunglasses, a classic canvas tote bag (it doesn’t get more classic than L.L. Bean’s heavyweight canvas tote bag), and this adorable phone case with beach-inspired graphics.

    Knit Turtleneck & Joggers Set

Neutral hue? Check. Natural cotton fabrication? Check. Cozy and comfortable oversized fit? Check and check!

This beige knit turtleneck and jogger pants set is Coastal Grandmother to a T.

Though this set has a slouchy, loose fit, it still looks polished thanks to its neutral color, natural fabric, and knit material. Plus, turtlenecks are a Coastal Grandma favorite; see Diane Keaton in “Something’s Gotta Give” for reference.

    Effortlessly Elegant

Though the Coastal Grandma aesthetic often features oversized and comfortable clothing, that doesn’t translate to sloppy. There is an element of elegance in Coastal Grandma outfits, and it can still include feminine pieces like dresses and skirts.

The key is to choose frocks with a classic silhouette, like this blue puff sleeve midi dress with a tiered skirt and square neckline. Its cotton poplin material adds to its breezy, summery look.

Wear it with a heart locket necklace and straw accessories, like some buckled raffia slide sandals and a woven basket bag.

For the full Coastal Grandma effect, toss a light-colored cardigan over your shoulders.

Blue & White Striped Tiered Midi Skirt

Another classic piece, this blue and white striped tiered midi skirt would fit right in at a coastal location. Its silhouette is timeless while still having a feminine charm, and the blue and white stripes add a nautical touch.

Tomato Girl Aesthetic: How to Wear the Trend This Summer

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

    It’s a Tomato Girl Summer!

ICYMI, the Tomato Girl aesthetic has been taking over social media this summer, featuring looks inspired by Mediterranean summers.

This fashion trend isn’t just for vacation, though — anyone can wear it, anywhere! Even if you won’t be eating fresh bruschetta made with vine-ripe tomatoes on the Amalfi Coast or frolicking in Tuscan vineyards, you can still dress like you are. It’s the perfect way to *romanticize* your summer, regardless of your travel plans.

The Tomato Girl aesthetic is all about whimsical outfits that incorporate bright, vibrant colors, bold prints, kitschy accessories, and unexpected combinations (like multiple prints or contrasting colors) to create eye-catching looks that are super summery.

If you’re ready to take on the trend, read on for our Tomato Girl fashion guide, with styling tips and outfit inspiration that will help you nail this viral fashion aesthetic.

Key Elements of Tomato Girl Aesthetic

These are the key style elements to look for when shopping for and putting together Tomato Girl outfits:

    • Vibrant and bright colors like red (which is the #1 color pick), blue, yellow, green, etc.
    • Eye-catching prints and graphics inspired by the summer, Italy, gardening, fruits and vegetables, vacations, etc.
    • Gingham, polka dots, and stripes
    • Feminine silhouettes and details like lace
    • Kitschy accessories
    • Vintage-inspired accessories like headscarves, slim sunglasses, basket bags, etc.

Styling Tips for Tomato Girl Summer Outfits

    • Don’t be afraid to wear colors and prints that don’t match! This aesthetic has an element of kitsch that involves mixing and matching contrasting colors and various prints to create bold, unexpected looks.
    • Mix modern and vintage-inspired pieces. For example, wear a graphic print t-shirt featuring a modern design styled with vintage-inspired accessories like a retro headscarf and sunglasses for an eye-catching effect.
    • When in doubt, imagine you’re headed on a vacation to the Mediterranean and will be eating fresh food from the garden at a local cafe. What would you wear? This is the essence of the true Tomato Girl.

    Tomato Girl Outfits

Now let’s get to the looks! Read on for seven Tomato Girl aesthetic outfits for summer that will help you achieve this fashion trend on a budget. Everything is under $150, so you won’t have to break the bank to turn into a Tomato Girl this summer!

    Bright & Bold Color Palettes

Nothing says Tomato Girl like a red dress, especially one with a sweet print and feminine silhouette. This red floral print corset skater mini dress features a colorful floral print with girly details like a lace-up back and lace trim.

Go the unexpected route with some bright blue Adidas Samba sneakers for contrast, adding to the outfit’s bold color palette. Not only will these (along with some white crew socks) create a stylish contrast, but they give the outfit a more laid-back vibe that makes it more wearable in everyday situations.

Tomato Girls are all about accessories, so add in some vintage-inspired slim oval sunglasses, a red crochet bow hair barrette, and some fun cherry earrings for the full effect.

    Playful Patterns

Could this skirt be any more perfect for the Tomato Girl aesthetic?! This maxi skirt features a playful tomato print that evokes the summertime, with pops of red and green.

Style it with a feminine white bustier top that has delicate lace trim and a lace-up back that adds a vintage-inspired vibe to the ensemble, while also flattering your silhouette.

Charm jewelry is a big trend this summer, and its kitschy nature makes it a perfect complement to the Tomato Girl aesthetic. This summery charm necklace is too cute, featuring subtle pops of red (in the form of cherries and a cornicello) mixed with beachy charms — pair it with some large gold hoop earrings and rings.

Whether you wear this outfit on vacation or to dinner at a local spot, some raffia slide sandals with a flatform are the ultimate seasonal shoe pick for the look.

    Contrasting Colors & Prints

Tomato Girls are all about wearing contrasting colors and prints to create eye-catching, whimsical looks. IDK about you, but I feel that this makes getting dressed so much easier — and so much more fun! Instead of agonizing over perfectly matching your outfits, do the opposite and pile on random colors and prints. As counterintuitive as it may seem, this looks so fashion-forward right now!

A yellow shirt with blue shorts and a red headscarf? That’s a yes for a Tomato Girl.

Boxer-inspired shorts are a huge fashion trend this summer, and this blue pair features a fun gingham print that fits the Tomato Girl aesthetic. Wear them with a bold graphic print t-shirt, like this Mediterranean-inspired yellow “Fruits De Mare” t-shirt with a boxy fit.

Keep the outfit casual with some Adidas Samba sneakers (with a pop of red, of course) and a graphic print trucker hat.

A red printed bandana scarf worn over your hat (as shown above) will give you major style points this summer, while this ceramic bow charm necklace adds a girly touch to the outfit.

    Whimsical & Fun Accessories

It’s no secret that accessories can make or break an outfit, and in this case, can transform a simple white dress into a total Tomato Girl look.

You can never go wrong with a white midi dress in the summertime, and this one features a smocked bodice and front tie to create a feminine silhouette. It’s a versatile frock that can be styled in many different ways, but you’ll want to pile on the kitschy, eye-catching accessories to give it a Tomato Girl transformation.

This beaded shoulder bag with a tomato print could not be more perfect for this trend, and it will look adorable paired with some red ballet flats. These flats have a square toe, giving them a more modern look for contrast.

Next, consider wearing a printed red scarf in your hair or around your neck, along with unique red jewelry. For example, these pearl and red cornicello drop earrings and this red rhinestone heart watch ring, which is a total conversation piece.

    Kitschy Graphics

In addition to pattern prints like stripes and gingham, graphic prints are a key element of Tomato Girl style, especially in the form of oversized graphic print t-shirts.

Opt for kitschy graphics that depict things like fruits and veggies (bonus points for actual tomatoes, like the t-shirt above), Mediterranean-inspired scenes, postcards, gardening themes, and the like.

An oversized-fitting t-shirt will allow you to style it with either a maxi skirt or with some loose-fitting pants, like these red and white striped linen-blend pants that are ideal for summertime. Give yourself a boost with some platform sneakers, which will add to the outfit’s laid-back street style vibe.

The look wouldn’t be complete without accessories, so don’t forget your jewelry, slim sunglasses, and a basket bag — I adore this one with red handles and the option to add a customized monogram on it for a personal feel. Plus, its interior features a red and white striped print that makes it pop.

    Flowy Fabrics & Silhouettes

White maxi skirts have been one of this summer’s biggest trends, and for good reason: they look incredibly cute, but thanks to their flowy silhouette and light hue, they also help to keep you cool in the summertime heat. Luckily, tiered white maxi skirts fit perfectly with the Tomato Girl aesthetic, and this linen-blend option is a versatile and lightweight option.

Try wearing it with a feminine top, like this sweet floral print cami top with a tie front and lace trim. It has pops of red for a Tomato Girl vibe, which can be enhanced with some red retro oval sunnies.

Of course, this aesthetic is not just about red, but about bright colors in general. Don’t be afraid to incorporate multi-color pieces like some color-blocked platform espadrille sandals and a colorful crochet shoulder bag. The bag’s slouchy shape adds to its bohemian, vintage-inspired look and its crochet fabrication makes it extra-summery.

Complete the ensemble with some charm jewelry like this sweet strawberry charm bracelet.

    Vintage & Modern Mix

The Tomato Girl look is all about mixing vintage-inspired pieces with modern ones, which allows us to have a lot of fun with this aesthetic.

These ’70s-inspired flared high-rise jeans with a dark wash have a retro vibe that will look amazing with a red and white gingham print strapless top and some platform sandals. The top features elastic scrunch and lace trim for a feminine effect.

Play up the red with a matching crochet shoulder bag that has a handmade look, along with a red floral print headscarf and a red beaded heart pendant necklace.

Summer 2024 Fashion Trends: The Top 12 Trends To Know & Wear This Season

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

This post will show you the 12 hottest fashion trends for Summer 2024, with affordable ways to get the looks for yourself.

A new season means new fashion trends to be inspired by, and since Summer 2024 is almost here, it’s time to get our wardrobes ready!

In this trend guide, I’m breaking down 12 of the hottest fashion trends that need to be on your radar for the upcoming season and how to get them yourself, on a budget.

Read on for the trendiest clothing, shoes, and accessories under $120 that will put you on the summer’s best-dressed list without breaking the bank.

    1. Tennis-Inspired Clothing

From Challengers with Zendaya to Netflix’s Break Point, tennis core is set to be this summer’s top trend.

But you don’t actually have to play tennis to ace this aesthetic — you can get the look with tennis skirts, polo shirts, athletic dresses, and other activewear pieces you’d see on a tennis court, minus the rackets.

    Polo Dress

Whether you’re actually hitting the tennis court or just going to grab a coffee, run errands, or hang out with friends, this athletic polo dress will keep you cool and comfortable while looking chic.

It has a retro feel thanks to its color-tipped collar and zip-front, plus features moisture-wicking fabric and a fully perforated back panel for ventilation (making it ideal for a hot summer day).

I am obsessed with its classic green hue, too!

    Athletic Polo Tank Top

It doesn’t get more classic than black and white stripes, especially on a polo top.

This half-zip polo features a sleeveless design with active fabric that is compressive and supportive, making it an amazing choice on or off the court.

Style this polo top with a pleated mini skort for the full tennis core effect.

    Active Pleated Mini Skirt

If you haven’t gotten yourself an active skort or skirt yet, this is the summer to do so!

Not only do activewear skirts look super cute, but they are so easy, breezy, and perfect for the summertime.

This pleated active skirt is giving major tennis core vibes, especially thanks to its Kelly green hue which is a style signature in tennis culture.

    2. Tomato Girl Aesthetic

Who’s ready for a Tomato Girl summer?

This trending aesthetic involves dressing as though you were on a summer vacation in Europe (especially Italy).

Think about what you would wear to roam picturesque coastal towns, have picnics or dine outdoors at quaint bistros, and cruise the Mediterranean Sea.

This aesthetic involves plenty of red (it is called “tomato girl,” after all), feminine, vintage-inspired silhouettes, and plenty of prints, especially those that bring a European summer to mind.

    Printed Red Corset Skater Dress

Red? Check. Feminine, vintage-inspired silhouette? Check. Summery print? Check.

If there were one piece of clothing that sums up the Tomato Girl aesthetic, it’d be this printed red corset skater dress. It checks all the boxes!

Even if you aren’t traveling to a Mediterranean destination this summer, this whimsical dress will put you in that Euro summer state of mind.

And how cute does it look paired with sneakers? Gotta love its versatility.

    Printed Linen Pants

Linen is a quintessential summertime fabric, as it’s so airy and lightweight.

These linen pants with a drawstring waist feature a Tomato Girl-approved print and a slouchy, low-rise fit.

    Printed 3-Piece Bikini Set

This trend easily could have been named the “Lemon Girl” aesthetic since lemon prints are just as much a part of the overall vibe — probably because this is a theme seen on Italy’s Amalfi Coast.

Regardless of your summer travel plans, embrace the aesthetic with this adorable lemon tile print swim set that comes with a bikini and matching cover-up skirt.

    3. Tie-Front Tops

This season is all about tie-front tops. If it ties in the front, it’s in!

What’s great about these tops is that their tie-front design makes them airy and, therefore, ideal for hot summer weather.

They can be worn casually during the day with jeans or denim shorts or dressed up at night with skirts or trousers.

    Chambray Tie-Front Vest

This chambray tie-front vest combines not one, but two trends: the tie-front silhouette and the denim-like fabrication.

With these trends combined, it’s a total must-have (more on denim later in this post).

    Satin Tie-Front Top

Go for a silky look with this pink satin tie-front top (also available in white).

Its silky, shiny fabric gives it a luxe effect, while the front ties (which look like bows) add to its girly vibe.

Since this top has a deep V-neckline, be sure to accessorize it with a statement necklace to make it pop.

    4. Leopard Print

Leopard print is still going strong this summer!

This wild print, which was especially popular in last season’s Mob Wife aesthetic, has become more mainstream than ever, from leopard print jeans to dresses and everything in between.

Take a walk on the wild side with these trendy leopard print picks for summer.

    Leopard Print Maxi Skirt

One of the best ways to wear this trend in the summertime is with a leopard print maxi skirt.

This mesh maxi is lightweight and flowy and can be dressed up or down, making it quite versatile.

During the daytime, style it with low-top sneakers like some Adidas Sambas and a simple tank top; during the nighttime, style it with heeled sandals and a tube top or crop top for a going-out look.

    Leopard Print Maxi Dress

This leopard print maxi dress is guaranteed to turn heads and make you stand out.

Made from soft mesh, it features a contrasting red lacy trim and adorable red bows on the straps for a pop of color and added trend appeal.

    5. Colorful Sneakers

Last summer, it was all about the black and white Adidas Sambas, but this summer, it’s all about colorful low-top sneakers (including Sambas and other Adidas styles like the Gazelle and the Campus).

A brightly colored sneaker is such a fun way to add a pop of color to your summer outfits, all while keeping you comfortable on your feet.

Get bonus style points for sneakers that feature unexpected color pairings for eye-catching contrast.

    Adidas Gazelle Sneakers

Arguably the hottest shoe of the season, the Adidas Gazelle sneaker comes in a ton of different color combinations, including bright, bold hues like this blue and pink pair.

These sneakers are going to add instant trend appeal to your outfits — even the most basic looks like denim shorts and a plain t-shirt will be totally transformed by these fun shoes.

    Adidas Gazelle Bold Platform Sneakers

Looking for a boost of height? Go for some platform low-tops like the Adidas Gazelle Bold sneakers.

These are just like Gazelles, but with a platform heel that’s going to boost you up, along with adding a pop of color to your ensembles.

Stacked up three layers high, these platform sneakers are just as their name describes: bold!

    Puma Palermo Sneakers

If you want to switch it up and go for a less popular yet equally cool sneaker, try the Puma Palermo sneakers in this bright blue hue.

You won’t see as many others wearing this type of sneaker (compared to the Adidas styles), giving you a more unique look while still being on-trend with a similar silhouette.

    6. Peplum Tops

It’s true: peplum tops are back.

But before you shudder at the thought of the peplum tops of the 2010s (paired with bulky statement necklaces, of course) coming back, think again.

In 2024, the silhouette has been updated for a fresh new look and often goes hand-in-hand with the tie-front top trend.

    Leopard Print Tie-Front Peplum Top

It doesn’t get trendier than this leopard print peplum tie-front top: it checks almost all of this season’s fashion boxes!

The top’s peplum silhouette and puff sleeves give it a feminine charm that contrasts stylishly with the bold leopard print.

It’s the perfect way to make a style statement this summer (especially when paired with red accessories).

    Peplum Bustier Top

Another fresh take on the classic peplum-style top is this bustier peplum top with lined, shaped cups and a flowy silhouette.

It is made with a linen-blend fabric, making it ultra-lightweight and perfect for summertime.

    7. Denim, Denim, Denim

This summer isn’t just for denim shorts — it’s for denim everything!

Denim is having a major moment, from denim dresses to denim tops, and, of course, our beloved cutoff shorts that are a summertime staple.

And don’t forget about denim accessories, too! Basically, the more denim, the better.

    Denim Mini Dress

Set aside your sundresses and floral dresses in favor of a denim mini dress this summer.

With a strapless silhouette, mini length, and seamed design, this stretchy denim mini dress is a fashion-forward pick for your upcoming summer nights out on the town.

    Denim Corset Top

A denim corset top is such a cute piece to wear this summer, as it puts a dressier spin on denim, which is regarded as a casual material.

This denim corset is especially girly with feminine touches like a lace-up back and ruffled hems at the sides, plus buttons going down the front.

I love the way this top looks paired with an airy white maxi skirt, which is another major trend this summer.

    8. Shell & Starfish Jewelry

It’s summertime, which means it’s time to layer on the beachy jewelry.

And what could be beachier than shells and starfish?

This season, beach-inspired jewelry is having a major moment, so embrace your inner mermaid with these statement-making jewels.

    Oversized Shell Earrings

Put your classic hoops aside in favor of some oversized shell earrings this summer.

Though these have a beachy vibe, their gold tone gives them a luxe look that will elevate your summer ensembles. They are also incredibly affordable, making them that much more tempting to try out.

    Starfish Necklace

Ariel’s got nothing on you with this adorable starfish necklace with a rope chain for an extra-beachy look.

The starfish pendant has a holographic finish that makes it eye-catching, especially in the sunlight.

    Adjustable Length Shell Necklace

Step up your summer outfits with this 18k gold-filled shell necklace on an adjustable silky black cord from my own online boutique.

The adjustable cord means you can wear this necklace short as a choker, or longer as a pendant necklace, giving you multiple looks with only one piece.

    9. Capri Pants

    It’s true… capris are back!

This ’90s style staple has been creeping back into the fashion scene, and TBH, they are pretty adorable.

Their knee length also makes them ideal for this time of the year, since soon it will be too hot to wear full-length pants.

    Black Capri Pants

If you don’t want to give up your black leggings come summertime, you don’t necessarily have to — just swap them out for some black capri pants instead!

Black capris are surprisingly versatile, too: you can wear them casually during the daytime or dress them up for nighttime.

    Gingham Capri Pants

Don’t these gingham capri pants make you want to go on a cute picnic?

Their print, combined with the capri silhouette, gives them a totally retro look that is so on-trend in 2024.

To really play up their vintage vibe, accessorize with some slim oval sunglasses, kitten heel sandals, and a stretchy headband.

    10. Contrasting Trims

Prepare to see a ton of clothing with contrasting trims this season.

A subtler take on color-blocking, this design detail is on the rise, and is the perfect way to add flair to basic items.

Plus, this detail can be found in many tennis core pieces, adding to its overall trend appeal.

Black and White Trim Crop Top & Skirt

How chic is this black crop top and coordinating mini skirt with a contrasting white trim?

The trim totally transforms a plain black skirt and crop top into a chic, eye-catching set.

Of course, these items can also be worn with other pieces in your wardrobe, making them versatile and multi-seasonal.

    Knit Top with Contrasting Piping

See how contrasting white piping takes a simple red knit top and makes it a standout, fashion-forward piece?

This sleeveless top is a perfect example of the contrasting trim trend.

It also can be incorporated into the tennis core aesthetic; wear it with a pleated white tennis skirt and white low-top sneakers for a chic summer look.

    11. Bermuda Shorts

Short shorts are usually a summertime staple, but this summer, go for a longer length if you want to be on-trend.

Bermuda shorts, which hit right above the knee, are taking over this season.

    Denim Bermuda Shorts

These denim Bermuda shorts are sure to become your new summer staple.

It’s no secret that jean shorts are an absolute must-have in the summertime, but this year, swap out your short cutoffs for a longer pair of denim shorts.

These denim Bermuda shorts have a more elevated look that will pair perfectly with other items on this trend list, like a tie-front top and colorful sneakers.

    Tailored Bermuda Shorts

These tailored Bermuda shorts are the answer to your summer internship and office dressing dilemmas.

Their long length and tailored design make them more appropriate for the workplace while still helping you beat the heat.

Available in four different neutral hues, they have a polished appearance that can be elevated even further with the right additions (a button-down shirt, a structured belt, a silky blouse, etc.).

    12. Crochet

Crochet is not a new summer trend per se, but it is as popular as ever this season, and for good reason! Due to its open-knit design, crochet clothing is a great way to beat the heat.

It’s especially amazing as swimwear cover-ups and for achieving a boho vibe that works well for music festivals and outdoor concerts.

    Crochet Dress

How adorable is this colorful crochet dress?

Its lightweight knit material makes it an amazing swimwear cover-up. Its color-blocking with bright, cheerful hues and tie-front detail add to its trend appeal.

    Crochet Maxi Skirt

Nothing says “summer” quite like this white crochet maxi skirt.

It’s a little bit boho, a little bit Western (especially when paired with cowboy boots), and all-around cute.

You could just as easily wear this to a music festival as you could to a beach vacation—or even give it the Tomato Girl treatment by wearing it with a red top and sandals.

  • 12 Leopard-Print Accessories That Scream “Timeless” Instead of “Tacky”

12 Leopard-Print Accessories That Scream “Timeless” Instead of “Tacky”

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the mid-2010s are back. No, it’s not just because Kylie Jenner dyed her hair pink and whiplashed us all into remembering her King Kylie era; Leopard print has been sneakily making its way across my Pinterest board, TikTok feed, and now, my closet.

This isn’t your mother’s leopard print clothing era though — no need to pull out your lightly-dusted, silk midi skirts that catapulted this print back into stardom in 2015 and 2016. Instead, all of the It girls are opting to show their leopard print love by way of pony hair shoes and carefully curated shoes that scream “timeless” and not “tacky.”

With the rise of the mob-wife aesthetic and over-the-top, gaudy, and flashy ’80s and ’90s references, leopard print feels like the one trend cycle that has somehow escaped eye-rolls within our office. While in Paris, fashion editor Jasmine inquired about a leopard-print Jacquemus bag she’d been eyeing. Over the holidays, I picked up yet another pair of leopard-printed ballet flats, much to the dismay of my millennial sister who “didn’t get it.”

If you’re looking to embrace controversy in a cool, It girl-approved way this year, look no further than adding a leopard print piece or two to your wardrobe. Pre-game the animal print by incorporating a printed bag or pony hair shoes into your outfit before going full-on Carmela Soprano with leopard print jeans, coats, and dresses. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this comeback.

  • The Best Sartorial Decision I Made All Year Was Switching to Chunky Sneakers

The Best Sartorial Decision I Made All Year Was Switching to Chunky Sneakers

Once a hardcore flats lover, I’m now embracing the chunky-sneaker trend. I’ll admit it took me a few seasons to get on board, but I’ve officially converted to the comfy, albeit trendy, footwear style. It seems like social media agrees with me—my For You Page is inundated with influencers and fashion people wearing fun sneakers with polished outfits. Not to mention, Zappos just released a new line of sneakers from Brooks, appropriately named the Vibes Collection, all of which are playing a major role in my end-of-summer aesthetic. I’m currently styling the Ghost 15, a classic black sneaker with blue detailing, with my signature neutrals, but I’m also taking the plunge with a purple running shoe. Below, I’ve curated four outfits to wear with Brooks sneakers this season, so if you’re searching for ways to style this trend, look no further.

  • I’m So Sorry, But We’ve Reentered the Era of the Unnecessary Belt

I’m So Sorry, But We’ve Reentered the Era of the Unnecessary Belt

If the old-school 20-year trend cycle is to be believed, then we’re looking at a rewind that will take us all the way back to 2003. By now, it should come as no surprise that all manner of early 2000s fashion items have come roaring back onto the scene in recent years, but no matter how many of the era’s controversial trends reemerge—from low-rise jeans to thong heels—we can’t help but feel shocked whenever fashion reaches back into the archives for yet another Y2K style element. So when I deliver the news I’m about to share here, don’t get mad at me if you’re personally triggered. I’m only the messenger after all!

Well, I’m so sorry, but we’ve once again reentered the era of the unnecessary belt. Of all the early aughts trends many of us lived through, the useless belt is perhaps the most pervasive of all in the collective consciousness. Up to now, it was the but of every joke. Low rises may be coming back, but at least random belts aren’t. Controversial as they may be, nothing defined the half-decade’s chaotic approach to accessorizing quite like useless belts did and the most memorable celebrity looks of the era—from Sienna Miller to Paris Hilton to Beyoncé—all feature one.

  • The $49 Nordstrom Sunglasses I’m Buying to Satisfy My Desire for the Prada Pair

The $49 Nordstrom Sunglasses I’m Buying to Satisfy My Desire for the Prada Pair

Good luck trying to get me to care about anything else when I’m in the throes of obsessing over a designer buy. As soon as an item tugs at my heartstrings, I’ll stay up all night thinking about it and do more mathematical calculations than I’ve ever done before to figure out how I can afford to own it. Right now, the object of my full attention is none other than the Prada Symbole Sunglasses. A combination of a classic slim oval silhouette and a subtle cat-eye shape, they caught my eye as soon as I first saw them online. I’ve been able to focus on little else since.

Or at least I was until I stumbled upon a similar oval-shaped pair while scrolling through Nordstrom. With a $517 price tag, the Prada pair I desire doesn’t come cheap. The Fifth & Ninth Taya Sunglasses I found on Nordstrom, however, only cast a fraction of that at $49. Plus, they feature a very similar retro shape. While nothing will ever come close to Prada, I’m genuinely shocked at how well this affordable alternative compares. I’ll still be dreaming about the designer iteration, but I plan on buying the Nordstrom pair to satisfy my desire in the meantime.

But it’s not just me. Slim oval sunglasses inspired by the ’90s are suddenly everywhere this season, and celebs from Sofia Richie to Laura Harrier are wearing the retro style. So once you peruse both the Prada and Nordstrom pairs I’m highlighting, continue to shop more oval sunglasses that are classic, cool, and rather expensive-looking if you ask me.

  • The Fashion Set Can’t Stop Wearing This $58 Game-Changing Tank Top

The Fashion Set Can’t Stop Wearing This $58 Game-Changing Tank Top

There’s nothing quite like getting your hands on a viral fashion find before the internet sells it out. Today’s case study in Instagrammable fashion involves Reformation’s beloved bateau-neck tank tops. The It girl-friendly brand is the fashion set’s go-to label come summertime. But ever since Sofia Richie’s timeless style altered our brain chemistry and defined months of summer trends, I’ve been drifting more toward Reformation’s basics, namely, their under-$100 items that look triple the price.

After scrolling TikTok one night, I realized it wasn’t just me. I saw at least five videos of fashion people and Gen Zers showing off their Reformation hauls. And the one item in every haul? The Dusk knit tank top. At $58, it’s one of the most affordable things on the brand’s website, not to mention one of the most classic. If you’re looking for a low-cost, high-joy piece to go with everything in your closet, look no further. I visited Reformation’s Upper East Side store to get one but left with three.

While there are trendy items I’ve loved for months, my latest obsession hasn’t quite hit the mainstream yet, meaning every color is in stock. Major win. Below, shop the viral boat-neck tank top trend and get a few ideas on how to style it.

  • I Just Got Back From London and Saw These 6 Trends Everywhere

I Just Got Back From London and Saw These 6 Trends Everywhere

I was recently lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Europe, stopping first in the United Kingdom before heading to the South of France. I spent my first week in London, a city that is always fun for a fashion observer like myself. The style in London is much more polished, especially compared to California, where we tend to have a more relaxed take on fashion. I love walking around the city and taking in all the street style, noting the more refined way of dressing that feels both quintessentially British and right on the pulse of current trends.

I noticed a few summer trends London fashion people have fallen particularly hard for, spotting the same handful of pieces all over the city. While the unpredictable London weather plays a role in which trends take off, certain summer styles marry seamlessly with the city’s elevated aesthetic. TikTok’s favorite quiet-luxury trend, for example, is a normal style in the UK’s capital. Like every transatlantic visit, I returned from my trip feeling inspired to introduce some of London’s favorite trends into my everyday wardrobe. And since London’s weather is a bit cooler than California’s, most of these are items I can wear straight through fall. From tailored trousers to summer’s prettiest shoe style, these are the six best London trends to add to your wardrobe.

  • This One “Ugly” Summer Trend Was Low on My Buy List Until I Saw These 8 Outfits

This One “Ugly” Summer Trend Was Low on My Buy List Until I Saw These 8 Outfits

Whether you like it or not, Bermuda shorts are back and better than ever. This once ill-fated ’00s trend, often associated with Adam Sandler, has returned to the closets of fashion people everywhere. I won’t lie; I wasn’t into this trend at first. Sure, dadcore is a cool concept, and jorts are at the center of many model-off-duty outfits, but there’s no way they actually look cool when real people wear them… right? Wrong.

While scouring the internet for office-appropriate linen shorts and lightweight cutoffs, I kept seeing more and more fashion people embracing denim Bermuda shorts and looking chic. After digging up a pair from the back of my closet and taking them for a spin with a few re-created outfits I pulled from Pinterest and Instagram, I think I’ve joined the jorts fan club.

My takeaway? The key to an appealing Bermuda shorts outfit lies in proper styling. From polished French basics to It girl-approved accessories, there’s a way to make denim Bermuda shorts look cool again. If that isn’t something to celebrate, I don’t know what is.

Browse our favorite denim Bermuda shorts below. Then shop for the components you need to style them.

  • This One Timeless Summer Purse Style Has Never Looked So Good (And Affordable)

This One Timeless Summer Purse Style Has Never Looked So Good (And Affordable)

As anyone who’s ever carried around a heavy leather bag in the summer will tell you, it just doesn’t feel right. For the most part, the rest of our spring and summer wardrobes are light and breezy, so shouldn’t the same apply to our bags? I, for one, think it should. Enter, raffia and wicker-style bags. While this trend isn’t new by any means, raffia bags have gone from a beach-only affair to a style you can wear nearly every day in the summer—no flip-flops necessary.

Naturally, with every trend comes the age-old question: how much do you really need to spend to get the look? Thankfully, a slew of our favorite retailers have begun selling adorable raffia bags—most coming in well under-$100.

Scroll on to shop some of the internet’s chicest raffia bags and see how fashion people are styling them.

7 Swimwear Trends I’m Not Seeing as Much of Anymore and 7 I Am

Welcome to high summer. By this time, your outfit rotation probably looks something like denim cutoffs, simple tank tops, and bikinis—lots of bikinis. That’s why we’re here to ensure your collection is as up-to-date as possible.

Curious as to which swim trends aren’t popping as much this summer? I did some digging into what everyone is wearing and shopping for this season, and I’ve noticed a few swim styles that were missing in action—well, seven to be exact. While I’m not saying these are completely cut and you should ditch them immediately, I’m simply pointing out what I’m seeing much less of and what is bubbling up in their places.

Let’s face it. Swimsuits are the backbone of our summer wardrobes, so if you haven’t found your ideal style (or two or three) yet, there’s no time like the present. Ahead, see which swim trends I’m not seeing anywhere and shop the styles I plan to wear all season long instead.

  • I Get Told I Look Like a “Bougie Auntie” When I Wear This Anti-Trend Outfit

I Get Told I Look Like a “Bougie Auntie” When I Wear This Anti-Trend Outfit

I’ll admit it—I hate getting dressed in the summer. The weather always confuses me, especially with the sporadic temperature changes we’ve been having as of late. It can be 90° outside, but then the office or your apartment will be freezing cold, so I’m always spending a little too much time staring at my closet in the morning and wondering what on Earth I’m supposed to wear. Lately, I’ve been resorting to an easy outfit formula—wide-leg pants, a basic top, and a sweater thrown over my shoulders. I didn’t think much of it, but when compliments kept getting thrown my way and I got told I looked like a “bougie auntie,” I realized the simple outfit was chicer than I had thought. It also makes sense for the weather, as I can throw on and take off the sweater as need be.

I own only a few variations of this outfit, but I’ve been gravitating toward these pieces more than anything else in my summer wardrobe. Even as a fashion editor, I’ve come to the realization that it’s okay to just stick with a more pared-back approach sometimes, and that doesn’t negate or take away from what’s deemed stylish. If you’re also struggling with what to wear this summer and want to take note of my go-to formula, I’ve found inspiration from others in the fashion set who have put their own spin on the look as well as where to shop the pieces. Keep scrolling for roomy trousers, linen pants, classic button-downs, easy tanks, and more.

  • I Finally Gave In to the Biker-Shorts Trend and Found 11 Cool Ways to Style Them

I Finally Gave In to the Biker-Shorts Trend and Found 11 Cool Ways to Style Them

There are plenty of summer trends that I jumped on immediately this year: tie-dye everything, ribbed tank tops, and chunky “tourist” sandals, to name a few. Biker shorts were not on that list. But after seeing celebs wear the comfy shorts style over and over again, I finally decided to give them a try.

To be clear, I previously owned one pair of biker shorts that I strictly wore with a sports bra and exercise sneakers for workouts. They never saw the light of day, though, and they definitely never became a part of an outfit that didn’t involve activewear. Flash forward to today, and I can’t get enough of the style. They’re undoubtedly practical for my current work-from-home lifestyle but are also so easy to turn into tons of cool, effortless outfits, like these 11, for example…

  • 8 Summer Accessories I’m Low-Key Over, and What I’m Buying Instead

8 Summer Accessories I’m Low-Key Over, and What I’m Buying Instead

With the ebb and flow of the trend cycle, it’s only natural that certain items would shrink out of the spotlight to make way for fresher pieces to take center stage. While I’m all for trends with a long lifespan, I can’t help but notice the way that some styles just become more popular than others and over time eclipse them altogether. It doesn’t happen overnight and usually takes a few years to really filter in and out, but this summer especially I’ve noticed a few shifts that I need to discuss. Specifically with summer accessory trends.

With the rise of the quiet luxury aesthetic and a shift towards more anti-trend style sensibilities, the accessories that are popping this summer are largely of the classic variety. Think pieces like sleek oval sunglasses, raffia totes, and sarongs that are having a bigger moment this summer. Naturally when certain items are trending, others fall by the wayside, so I’m sharing eight summer accessory trends that I’m eyeing and buying along with eight more that I’m slowing down on this season.

  • The Summer Trend Everyone is *Still* Wearing With Jeans, Skirts, and Trousers

The Summer Trend Everyone is *Still* Wearing With Jeans, Skirts, and Trousers

Sorry to say it, but not all trends have staying power. Some burst onto our radars and then seem to fizzle out not long after while others surprise us by sticking around longer than we anticipated. It’s always satisfying when the latter is the case, especially if it’s a trend you’ve already bought into. This summer, waistcoats—specifically in hot weather-friendly linen—are definitely in it for the long haul and we’re not mad at it one bit.

Tailored vests have been trending for well over a year, but fashion people are doubling down on their commitment to the staple and adding chic linen versions to their summer wardrobes. During her wedding festivities, Sofia Richie wore a linen vest top from Posse and promptly made it sell out for months. (Good news, it’s back in stock, at least for now.)

If this is a trend you’ve already bought into, well then, congrats your investment is paying off. But if you’ve yet to test the waters with a vest top, then consider this your official green light to do so. In addition to their staying power, we’re about to prove just how versatile these linen vests really are—wear one with a skirt, jeans, or matching trousers—you really can’t go wrong. Ahead, glean plenty of outfit inspiration from celebs and fashion folks and then shop the best linen vests because I know you’ll be inspired to do so.
