The Summer Trend Everyone is *Still* Wearing With Jeans, Skirts, and Trousers

    [ad_1]

Sorry to say it, but not all trends have staying power. Some burst onto our radars and then seem to fizzle out not long after while others surprise us by sticking around longer than we anticipated. It’s always satisfying when the latter is the case, especially if it’s a trend you’ve already bought into. This summer, waistcoats—specifically in hot weather-friendly linen—are definitely in it for the long haul and we’re not mad at it one bit.

Tailored vests have been trending for well over a year, but fashion people are doubling down on their commitment to the staple and adding chic linen versions to their summer wardrobes. During her wedding festivities, Sofia Richie wore a linen vest top from Posse and promptly made it sell out for months. (Good news, it’s back in stock, at least for now.)

If this is a trend you’ve already bought into, well then, congrats your investment is paying off. But if you’ve yet to test the waters with a vest top, then consider this your official green light to do so. In addition to their staying power, we’re about to prove just how versatile these linen vests really are—wear one with a skirt, jeans, or matching trousers—you really can’t go wrong. Ahead, glean plenty of outfit inspiration from celebs and fashion folks and then shop the best linen vests because I know you’ll be inspired to do so.

  • The Tomato-Girl Aesthetic Is My Summer Vibe—30 Items I’m Buying Thanks to TikTok

The Tomato-Girl Aesthetic Is My Summer Vibe—30 Items I’m Buying Thanks to TikTok

    [ad_1]

Now, before you crucify me, I have to admit: I didn’t come up with this name.

It only came about in my mind when, after a long day of lounging around Central Park during a day off, a friend pointed at my shoulders and without hesitation, said “Girl, you dead look like a tomato.”

For a Gen Z crowd brought up around peers obsessed with non-veggie-things-called-veggies (see: Lil Yachty’s hit Broccoli and the all-seeing eggplant emoji), the comparison didn’t shock me in the slightest. My shoulders did, in fact, look like a tomato—overwhelmingly crimson and slightly protruded. What surprised me was the fact my friend stated after: “Not you literally being in your tomato girl era.”

Every summer, it seems like TikTok choses to hyper-fixate on a specific sartorial subsect: the rise of quiet luxury, coastal grandmother, vanilla girl, ballet-core, weird girl aesthetic, cottage-core and a multitude of other stylistic choices can all be attributed to the Great Big Clock App in the sky. This summer, the aesthetic of the moment is one that resembles Italian grandmothers’ dinner tablecloths, has a penchant for Campari sodas, and can’t get enough of the color red. (And, if you’re like me, doesn’t know how to use sunscreen properly).

Enter: the tomato girl. She’s is another iteration of the carefree, breezy coastal style we’ve come to associate with trendy travel destinations of the last few years—particularly, the Amalfi coast and Sicily. Call it the White Lotus effect or one too many Robyn Italian Summer jeans sold by Lisa Says Gah, but the fact of the matter remains the same: everyone wants to dress like pasta toppings now: olives, anchovies, and tomatoes are all on the menu. After the California-based label released this year’s version of their cult food print inspired by Spanish tapas, there was no stopping the tomato girl from taking over.

The #1 Dress Trend on Amazon Right Now Just So Happens to Be on Sale

    [ad_1]

Comfort is the name of the game during the hottest months of the summer. How long has it been since you put on your old favorite rigid jeans? Thought so. In place of all my go-to heavy-fabric outfits, I’ve been cycling through my entire collection of dresses for the hottest days. But clearly Amazon shoppers are zeroing in on one comfy item in particular right now: the T-shirt dress. When I checked Amazon’s constantly updated best-seller section, Daily Ritual’s Jersey Ballet-Back T-Shirt Dress ($17) took the number one spot in the clothing category, proving that there’s a massive demand for T-shirt dresses right now.

I definitely am a creature of habit, so it’s hard for me to part ways with my trusty college T-shirt and worn-in sweatpants. However, the T-shirt dress trend is absolutely one I can get on board with. Listen: There’s no shame in investing in a trend that you can literally wear all day long, including to bed. Now that’s getting bang for your buck. Scroll down to shop Amazon’s best seller as well as other T-shirt dresses.

  • I Just Assembled My Ideal Summer Wardrobe—These Were the 5 Key Pieces

I Just Assembled My Ideal Summer Wardrobe—These Were the 5 Key Pieces

    [ad_1]

After months of shopping without rhyme or reason, my summer wardrobe is in need of a fix. It’s the classic trope of having too many options without having anything to truly wear, so in light of my situation, I’m getting more strategic. While I don’t need to go overboard with a whole new closet, I do want to invest in a few essential pieces that will do the heavy lifting and reduce how long I sit and stare into the abyss that is my closet. Since the runways are always a source of discovery, I went back and combed through the spring/summer collections for fresh inspiration. Now that these collections have finally trickled from the shows into the retail stores, it made even more sense to give them another look. Hours of clicking and scrolling later, I finally arrived at my dream summer wardrobe, and it came down to five key pieces.

From prep-school miniskirts (thank you, Miu Miu) to happy-hour halter vests and cocktail-hour crochet, these were the standouts among the host of florals and linen pieces on the runways. The point is that I can incorporate them into my current wardrobe as a focal point with my existing staples as the supporting act.

They’re ready to set the tone and define the mood of the summer—keep scrolling to see the buys energizing and unifying my summer vibe.

The Anti–Short Shorts Trend That Every Cool Person I Follow Is Wearing

    [ad_1]

As much fun as a pair of hot pants can be (for the right occasion, that is), they’re not the most practical summer bottoms. Shockingly short and necessary to adjust every few seconds, the buzzy celebrity trend has its pitfalls, which is probably why their opposite has made a run for fashion’s top spot in the shorts department. And even with all of the bad publicity that Midwestern dads (I can say that because my dad is one) have gotten for Bermuda shorts, the very appropriate hot-pants alternative has managed to campaign their way into every fashion girl’s warm-weather wardrobe.

All the proof you need that Bermuda shorts are having a moment exists on my Instagram feed, which I’ve combed through meticulously and recreated below. Showcasing the best styles to go with and subsequently, what to wear with them once you pick a pair of your own, let the forthcoming selection serve as your primary guide to the trend. • This TikTok-Viral $30 Tote Bag Has Never Gone Out of Style in 78 Years

This TikTok-Viral $30 Tote Bag Has Never Gone Out of Style in 78 Years

    [ad_1]

As a millennial, I’m not ashamed to say I love TikTok as much as any Gen Zer out there. I was recently scrolling through the app while working from home—er, I mean, after work!—and came across not one, not two, but three different videos all referencing a classic, affordable staple: the L.L.Bean Boat & Tote Canvas Bag ($30). Don’t you love it when the algorithm figures you out?

Showing off a perfectly preppy outfit complete with an L.L.Bean tote, Tiktoker @jesicaelise said: “Very rarely will I let you forget that I spent way too much time at a private school.” I felt that one. The video went viral with nearly half a million views and over 500 comments, with users gushing over their love for the timeless, incredibly durable tote bag, which debuted back in 1944.

I also came across @aileciajones’s video and then finally @mippapiddleton‘s, in which she says she was influenced to buy the tote because of the two aforementioned videos. A lot of people on TikTok adore the monogram service that L.L.Bean’s website offers and have used it to write funny phrases on the bags instead of their names.

And if that wasn’t enough proof of its surging popularity, I’ll also add this: After I pitched this story, our social media manager said she just bought one last week because she saw an image on Pinterest of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy wearing it in 1997. Meanwhile, Chloë Sevigny and Reese Witherspoon carried—get it?—the bag into the 2010s.

While the bag is enjoying newfound fame on TikTok, it has clearly never gone out of style in the 78 years since it came on the market. Scroll down to see the TikToks and celebrity photos, and shop the bag for yourself.

I’m an Anti-Heels Kind of Girl, These Flat Shoes Will Look Great With Dresses

    [ad_1]

What can I say? I simply cannot handle wearing a pair of heels unless it’s a car-to-dinner-seat situation, especially if they are over 3 inches. Thankfully, the shoe gods have blessed me with a constant stream of flat shoe trends for almost a decade now—the last few years in particular. In fact, it’s rare as of late to see many of the fashion set out in the wild in heels. It’s now all about comfy shoes that don’t sacrifice style, even in the most formal of occasions. I wouldn’t have dared show up to an event like a wedding in anything but heels some years back, but times have definitely changed.

Such is the case when it comes to styling dresses in general. There are a plethora of flat shoes that go great with just about any style of dress now whether it be for an everyday outfit or the fanciest of party looks. Below, I share 6 of my top flat shoe styles to wear with dresses this season. From sneakers to ballet flats to a variety of sandals, there is a little something for everyone.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever cringed looking at your weekly screentime report (don’t worry, mine is abysmal too). While there’s no arguing that many of us would benefit from going out to “touch grass” more, occasionally, there’s something to gain from spending copious hours online—e.g., knowledge about global events, community building, and even a few cute outfit ideas. But possibly one of the best things about social media is that it allows us not only to create or follow but to contemplate.

On a larger scale, these platforms have played a pivotal role in giving marginalized communities the platform to speak up and question society’s power structures. And on a personal level, they’ve changed how we relate to every aspect of our lives, including clothing. When a fashion trend takes off on TikTok, it may seem trite, but it’s actually saying way more about society than we think. A prime example of this is the recent rise of the “old money” fashion aesthetic.

Across Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and various media publications (including our very own), we’ve seen an amalgamation of coverage centered around phrases like “quiet luxury,” “stealth wealth,” or “old money dressing.” While the terms may differ, make no mistake, this idea is centered on discerning how wealth is displayed through clothing. It’s a concept that has invoked strong emotions of contempt and approval.

  • Summer Sets: The Easy, Comfy, and Cool Trend Everyone’s Vibing With RN

Summer Sets: The Easy, Comfy, and Cool Trend Everyone’s Vibing With RN

    [ad_1]

Just because we’ll be spending much more time out of the house this summer than we did last year doesn’t mean we’re completely ditching our comfy vibe. Sure, fancier going-out pieces and—gasp—heels are slowly starting to enter back into our outfit rotations, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that comfort is still our top priority. The trend that I’m unpacking here feels extra relevant right now for that reason. It’s easygoing and unfussy but still has that cool factor to it.

Enter the trend I’m dubbing summer sets. In lightweight fabrics like poplin and linen, these duos are defined by two pieces: a button-down shirt with long or short sleeves and coordinating shorts that are somewhat inspired by boxers. Almost as soon as I was aware that these sets were becoming a thing, they suddenly proliferated and started popping up everywhere I looked. Spot them on fashion-girl Instagram styled with cool basics like ribbed tanks and even worn as swimsuit cover-ups. Obviously, the idea is that you’ll be wearing them together, but like all good matching sets, each piece is easily styled solo, too.

It’s Official: “Golden-Hour Makeup” Is This Summer’s Most Flattering Trend

    [ad_1]

You know that time right before sunset or sunrise when everything turns a gleaming shade of gold? Everything looks soft and diffused. Even without makeup, your skin has an ethereal glow, and your features pop. That, my friends, is golden hour, and it’s the inspiration behind the summer’s biggest beauty trend: “golden-hour makeup.” It’s currently going viral on TikTok, racking up millions of views (and counting).

What is this makeup look all about? It’s essentially mimicking the effect of golden hour on the skin, with no sunset or sunrise necessary. “The golden-hour makeup trend is a look that captures that warm and glowing light at sunrise and sunset,” says celebrity makeup artist J Guerra. “This trend is skin focused and involves using warm, shimmery, and bronze-toned products to create a radiant and luminous glow. The final look is ethereal. It’s a magical play on light with how it illuminates makeup and skincare products and brings these reflective textures to life. The lighting does all the work for you.” Keep scrolling to learn everything you need to know about this summer’s biggest makeup trend.

Although beauty is my forte, I also love staying up to date on fashion trends. When my friends and I were chatting about the latest batch of summer styles, we agreed that everyone should try at least one of these five easy-to-wear trends on vacation. Hear me out: If you’re going anywhere tropical, it’s kind of mandatory that you wear crochet and rock a raffia accessory. A one-piece swimsuit also deserves a spot in your suitcase. (The classic silhouette is so flattering.) Luckily, flats are having a major moment, too. Between Mary Janes, ballet flats, and loafers, there’s no shortage of stylish shoes that are easy to walk in. Finally, you can’t let the Barbie-pink trend (one of my faves) pass you by this summer. I found all of these trends at Nordstrom, so keep reading to find the one that speaks to you and your personal style.
