5 Winter Dress Trends Everyone's Obsessed With This Season

    [ad_1]

When you think about your winter wardrobe, it’s probably pieces like gloves, down jackets, and beanies that first come to mind. But between holiday parties, cozy brunches, and snowy weddings, don’t ignore the importance of seasonal dresses. Whether you’re more of a homebody or you’ve overcommitted yourself to all of the holiday parties on your calendar, Scroll through Instagram this time of year, and it’s likely your feed is full of stylish women showing off exactly how they’re styling this winter’s biggest dress trends, from simple to statement-making.

Before you embark on your own shopping journey, we suggest thinking about winter dresses in two main categories: practical or party. Now, this doesn’t mean that a style can’t check both boxes, but odds are you’ll either want something simple and comfortable for everyday wear, or you’re looking for a special-occasion style that has a major impact. Showing up to work in a sparkly, sequin minidress probably isn’t something you’d want to do, but a sweaterdress, absolutely.

Ahead, we’re tackling both categories with five trends that are particularly popular at the moment, including quiet-luxury-coded winter whites and Gen Z–approved bow details. One tip: If your big concern during winter is that a dress won’t keep you warm enough, layering fleece tights or heat-tech underneath and a heavy coat on top will ensure that even in a teeny-tiny mini, you’ll feel like you’re swathed in a million layers. Shop all of our on-trend picks below.

  • I Only Buy Cashmere From Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew—These Sweaters Are Why

I Only Buy Cashmere From Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew—These Sweaters Are Why

    [ad_1]

Running your hands over a cashmere sweater is one of life’s little luxuries. The fiber is sourced from pashmina or cashmere goats and is known for its softness. It can also be mixed with wool to provide extra warmth during the freezing winter months. Basically, any article of clothing is available in the material (pants, socks, scarves, you name it!), but a cashmere sweater is one of the classics you need. It makes layering so much easier in colder temperatures, and there are tons of options you can choose from between turtlenecks, cardigans, polos, and oversize silhouettes.

Though they are a little trickier to care for (you can’t just throw one in the wash and call it a day), the wear you’ll get out of them and the styling versatility they provide make cashmere sweaters well worth their sometimes-hefty price tags. When I’m looking to stock up, I gravitate toward Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew. Once you scroll through the below list, you’ll understand why. Ahead, I rounded up 33 of the best cashmere sweaters to shop at each retailer so you can feel absolutely luxurious while going about your day this winter.

  • If a Fashion Person Wears Leggings in 2024, It'll Be With These Elevated Basics

If a Fashion Person Wears Leggings in 2024, It'll Be With These Elevated Basics

    [ad_1]

If anyone knows just how quickly the trend cycle churns, it’s us fashion editors. One minute, cargo pants are everywhere; the next it’s low-rise jeans, and these days, the fashion set and skinny jeans exist in a perpetual state of “Will they? Won’t they?” A classic pair of leggings, however, is an evergreen constant, and no matter what state the rest of the trend cycle is in, it’s the one thing a fashion person is always sure to have in her closet and in rotation.

It makes sense that the versatile style never loses its fan base. When you think about it, there are just so many ways to style leggings. Whether part of an athleisure getup for a coffee run and errands à la Kendall Jenner in ALO or elevated with a blazer and heels for the office or a night out (whoever said leggings weren’t pants was very wrong), the outfit potential is virtually endless. To keep things simple, though, for those of you looking for a little legging style inspiration, these eight outfit combinations are the place to start.

We're Fashion Editors in NYC—We Basically Live at These 9 Hot Spots

    [ad_1]

There’s really nowhere else like New York. Between the energy, the people, the entertainment, and the style, NYC has always had that It factor that makes it irresistible to anyone who’s ever visited—and impossible to live elsewhere for anyone who calls it home. And it doesn’t take an expert to see that one of the most defining experiences of New York is the social life. Going out for a drink or dinner, or finding a place to stay can be an overwhelming endeavor since the city is flooded with world-renowned restaurants, buzzy bars, and five-star hotels at every corner.

Well, not to sound biased, but no one has a better pulse on the city’s coolest hangouts than our team of fashion editors. The previews, events, and dinners we regularly attend bring us all over the city and often allow us to be one of the first to experience a new restaurant, bar, or hotel. I recently surveyed our fashion team to find out where they’re actually hanging out, so you don’t have to get lost among all the TikTok reviews and “best of New York” lists out there. Simply take our word for it: these nine hot spots are the only you need to know.

Trust Me—These Are the Only 6 Trendy Winter Buys You Need to Shop Right Now

    [ad_1]

Sure, trends come and go, but, this winter we’ve been blessed with some seriously wearable ones. So, it’s understandable if you’ve been on the fence about which items you should add to your cart. While trends aren’t necessarily meant to be long-lasting pieces (although the quiet luxury aesthetic could give us a run for our money, here), it’s always helpful to ask yourself if you can get at least two seasons of wear out of a purchase. On the flip side, since trends are fleeting, buying something “just for fun” is also completely valid (and, well, fun!)

This list is comprised of both those sensibilities. They’re the six pieces that we keep coming back to and frequently stop our scrolling to admire. Not to mention that many of them would make excellent holiday party attire. If you needed permission to press “Add to Cart,” consider it done. The only buys you really need before spring are just a moment away.

  • I Moved and Have a Bigger Closet Now, But I Still Purged These 4 Items

I Moved and Have a Bigger Closet Now, But I Still Purged These 4 Items

    [ad_1]

In this roller coaster year of ups and downs, I’ve sat on the news of buying and renovating my first home. The process has been eye-opening, exciting, alarmingly adult, and an exercise in gratitude (and patience) every day.

It’s also been a new, welcome creative outlet. I’ve loved picking out paint samples, tile, and sourcing furniture, and I’ve especially loved designing my closet from scratch. As someone who used to pray daily that her rotted-wood closet bar wouldn’t buckle under pressure (and relied heavily on rolling racks), I still can’t believe I have a walk-in! After installation, I’d find myself wandering in and out of the empty room, a giddy smile plastered on my face. It felt fresh and full of hope. I didn’t want to sully the space with anything that no longer brought me joy.

A new home means new beginnings, and I wanted to honor that with a well-curated wardrobe. I am deeply sentimental, so this proved to be harder than I thought it would, but I did it. I now live in a color-coded reality of tightly edited pieces (I know—who am I?) and you know what? It feels good.

Inspired to get a head start on spring cleaning? Read on for the pieces I bid adieu to.

The 8 Specific Basics Cool Europeans Are Wearing With Jeans Right Now

    [ad_1]

There’s just something about European style that we Americans can’t get enough of. Even when they’re wearing something casual and low-key, the fashion people of Paris, London, Milan, Stockholm, and other cities always seem to dress with a certain polish—and I’ll go to the ends of the internet in search of ways to re-create their looks myself. In fact, I recently did just that, and I figured I’d share my findings with you here.

Let’s start with jeans, the one item I know every one of us has in their closets right now. Europeans may be known for their sophisticated style, but they’re no strangers to good denim. The main difference in American and European denim outfits, I’ve noticed, is in how they are styled. I scrolled through the Instagram feeds of stylish Europeans for a few solid hours and can confirm that right now, the secret sauce for their denim ensembles all comes down to a handful of very specific wardrobe basics. Here, discover the items that Europeans from Paris to Stockholm are wearing with jeans now, and shop the key pieces.

    I Found Nordstrom's Best-Selling Basics, so Now I'm Spilling

    [ad_1]

We are die-hard Nordstrom fans over here—and by “we,” I mean “me.” It’s where I find myself time and time again after I’ve done a closet clean-out and need to restock with the best basic pieces. Beyond its wide selection including everything from Ugg to Madewell to Skims, it’s one of the few places I can go to grab everything I need—be it undergarments, a jacket, boots, or anything in between—and not leave with a completely depleted wallet.

In case you don’t know where to start, I went ahead and pulled the best-selling basics that are proven crowd favorites. Nordstrom has one of the best sweater offerings I’ve seen. (Seriously, its buyers know what they’re doing.) You quite literally don’t need to look anywhere else for winter boots, and I could go on and on about its puffer coats. Since I’d rather show you instead, here’s a quick roundup of all that and more. I’m on my way to add a few of these to my cart right along with you.

  • Women in Paris Will Wear These Basics With Skirts and Jeans in 2024

Women in Paris Will Wear These Basics With Skirts and Jeans in 2024

    [ad_1]

Every time I travel to Paris, I find myself enthralled by the way that French women can make simple wardrobe basics feel so pulled-together. Over the summer, I sat at a café in the Marais, watching women take their lunch break dressed in jeans, sneakers, and cute miniskirts, and I began to mentally tuck away ideas that I could bring home and make use of myself. Luckily, I realized that I could easily re-create them using items I already own. It would just take some new styling to pull it all together.

What I was particularly struck by is my French counterparts’ ability to use simple pieces like a button-down or a blazer to give a sweatshirt or sneakers a dressier feel. It’s an easy trick, but it has a big impact. Looking ahead to 2024, I’m already putting aside a fresh crop of ideas centered around the two pieces I find myself always going between: jeans and a simple skirt, like a suede mini or a silky black slip skirt. On Instagram, I’ve found some French outfits I can’t wait to re-create in New York, bringing a little bit of Parisian flair over the pond. All of these outfits manage to take simple wardrobe basics and, through thoughtful styling, make them feel more elegant than they might otherwise. Here’s my breakdown of the best basics to mix and match to re-create that Parisian sensibility.

32 New J.Crew Items That Whisper “French Girl”

    [ad_1]

French style is, at its core, super simple, but it’s also very particular. Think of what the quintessential French muse might have in her weekly rotation, though, and a few mainstays are guaranteed—the best jeans one can get their hands on, an assortment of essential tees to pair with jeans and relaxed trousers, put-together cardigans and sweaters, blazers and tailored coats for layering, and comfortable shoes made for walking. Basically, it’s everything you’re bound to find on a trip to J.Crew’s website.

Everyone’s favorite anti-trend trend—the pieces that emulate Parisian style most—are seasonless staples you can almost bet will never go out of style. I’d say that just about sums up almost every J.Crew purchase I’ve made. Currently, the brand’s online offering has everything from embellished sweaters and cropped cardigans to tweed dresses and enough striped tops to lose count, which is all very French, if I must say. I rounded up my favorites below, just in case you were looking to restock your wardrobe with a few tried-and-true styles.

Crossbody Cell Phone Purses Are Practical, But These 15 Are Stylish Too

    [ad_1]

Phone cases that double as mini purses are nothing if not stylish and functional all at once. What’s more, they allow for hands-free errand running or shopping when you’ve got a lot to carry. While there are plenty of designer options that help display your logo love and may even nod to your personal style (think Chanel’s delicate chain strap and quilted leather that’s recognizable anywhere), affordable iterations on the market are just as convenient.

Zara makes a leather case, offered in both black and white, that’s sleek and sophisticated for the minimalist. J.Crew’s Gracie bag is a best seller on the site and comes with two separate pouches for optimal storage space—the coin purse can be detached and stowed in a separate bag or used to hold your AirPods. And Tory Burch’s Miller crossbody, while more of an investment, is roomier than most bags of its caliber, equipped with two added card slots and finished with the brand’s signature emblem hardware on a magnetic closure for easy access.

Whether you’re looking for a casual crossbody purse for a festival or concert or you’re seeking something that’s fashion-forward and appropriately elegant for an after-hours party, we’ve found an option for you.
