  • $500,000 of home audio equipment stolen from semi in-transit to California Amazon warehouse

    [ad_1]

Two men were arrested after detectives found around $400,000 worth of electronic equipment stolen from a semi-truck with another $100,000 of equipment gone, which Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Detective Royjindar Singh believes was sold on eBay.

“When the truck arrived at the Amazon facility, the workers opened the back and noticed that the entire shipment was missing,” Detective Singh said. “The truck was completely empty.”

Gone was $500,000 worth of electronic equipment as Detective Singh says home audio equipment like record players and boombox speakers were in transit from an east coast manufacturer to a California Amazon warehouse.

“I, personally, have not seen one of this magnitude, where an entire semi-truck full of stuff has been stolen,” Detective Singh said.

Detective Singh says they’ve seen a trend for package thefts year-round and an increase during and after deal days, such as Amazon Prime Day.

“We’ve had…multiple cases where Amazon delivery trucks, similar to…our sprinter vans that were taken. And those were usually quick events,” he said. “The driver’s making a delivery, somebody jumped in the truck, drove IT a few miles, unloaded everything, abandoned the truck and they were gone. We have had several of those in our county in recent years.”

Detective Singh said the east coast vendor actually started doing his own detective work and found his products being sold on eBay. He then reached out to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office who took over the investigation.

“These types of crimes are definitely not a victimless crime,” Detective Singh said. “Because, at the end, somebody’s going to have to pay for the merchandise that’s gone, whether it’s insurance claims that are being paid to the vendor, that makes the price of these merchandise go up because the insurance rates potentially go up, so at the end of the day, somebody’s having to pay the cost of these stolen items and merchandise and that’s really not the way that society should operate.”

After a two-month investigation, detectives arrested 58-year-old Turlock resident Ravinder Singh and 36-year-old Modesto resident Nepal Singh for possession of stolen property.

Detective Singh said for large thefts, it depends on the dollar value stolen, it’s a felony offense, so that can mean prison time and that California law recently changed where if there are multiple petty thefts under a certain dollar amount, can also lead to felony charges and prison time.

For the extra $100,000 worth of equipment missing that Detective Singh thinks may have been sold on eBay, he wants people to be vigilant. Both when ordering packages to ensure that they are delivered to a safe place and when buying items online.

“We do believe this might be some type of organized operation,” Detective Singh said. “It’s not something that somebody would just wake up one day and able to steal and unload an entire truckload of merchandise. So we do believe that there may be more players that may be arrested in the future.”

Unfortunately, Detective Singh said this type of organized crime is getting more common. So, he encourages the public, if you see something fishy, including if you see a big rig driving on a country road with no warehouses nearby, to please call 9-1-1.

  • Incomplete sidewalks in West Modesto raise ADA compliance concerns

    [ad_1]

(FOX40.COM) – Incomplete sidewalks in parts of West Modesto are raising major safety and accessibility concerns, especially for residents living with disabilities.

Neighbors along California and Spencer Avenues say they’ve been asking for a solution for years and fear it’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Jose Ramirez and his family on Spencer Ave say a 100-ft stretch of dirt in front of their home is more than an inconvenience, but a danger.

“It’s not convenience or it’s not a luxury. It’s more like a necessity under the ADA,” Alejandra Ramirez, Jose’s daughter, said.

Alejandra says she often stands outside with her father to protect him from speeding cars and uneven ground.

“We have had cars that actually have crashed into our property,” Alejandra said. “If there would have been a sidewalk as a little buffer, maybe that would have stopped.”

District 2 Modesto city council member Eric Alvarez, who represents the area, said this is just one of many pockets around the city lacking sidewalks. He is now pushing for city and Stanislaus County officials to work together on solutions.

“We need to be proactive and not reactive to a worst-case scenario where a child it hit, or someone in a wheelchair tips over,” Alvarez said.

But Alvarez says lack of progress is due to funding challenges and confusion over where city and county jurisdictions begin. He estimates that a sidewalk in front of the Ramirez home could cost between $80, 000 – $100,000, and there are hundreds of locations across the city in need of sidewalks, including areas near schools.

“It’s in our 2025 – 2026 strategic plan to improve infrastructure,” Alvarez said. “I’m trying to continue to figure out creative ways to attract funding from the state to come to the city of Modesto to tackle these sorts of issues.”

FOX 40 is awaiting a response from Stanislaus County officials who say they are aware of the community’s concerns, and the findings of a recent presentation from the Department of Public Works.

Residents are encouraged to contact city and county representatives to push for improvements.

  • September Lightning Complex fires scorch nearly 14,000 acres in Central California; some evacuations downgraded

    [ad_1]

Some evacuation orders were downgraded as firefighters continue to battle several lightning-sparked wildfires in Central California.

The major fires that forced people to flee included the 2-7 Fire just east in Calaveras County and the 6-5 Fire in Tuolumne County.  Evacuation orders for a third fire, the 2-2 Fire in the northern corner of Stanislaus County, have been lifted.

Cal Fire’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit stated that those three fires are among 22 that comprise the TCU September Lightning Complex, which has combined to burn nearly 14,000 acres as of Friday. Cal Fire reported 22% containment.

“Today, minimal fire activity was observed with smoldering pockets continuing to be found throughout the complex,” the agency said on Thursday.

Crews continue to build containment lines and strengthen containment lines that were already established.

As for damage, Cal Fire said 94 structures have been destroyed and seven were damaged. It’s unclear how many of those were homes.

Damage in California Gold Rush town of Chinese Camp

The 6-5 Fire exploded to more than 7,037 acres burned with no containment reported as of Thursday evening, according to Cal Fire. This fire was burning on the north end of Don Pedro Reservoir, causing “a lot of destruction” to the area of the historic Chinese Camp, according to Tuolumne County District 5 Supervisor Jaron Brandon.

Surveillance video obtained by CBS Sacramento shows the Chinese Camp Cemetery caught fire. Additionally, a CBS Sacramento crew in the area captured images of burned homes and other buildings. No injuries have been reported.

According to the Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, the 2-2 Fire was first reported shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday near Highway 4 and Dunton Road, west of the town of Copperopolis in Calaveras County. The fire has burned more than 3,400 acres with 80% containment, according to Cal Fire.

Around noon on Tuesday, authorities in Calaveras County announced the 2-7 Fire broke out near the Vallecito region off Highway 4. Traffic on the highway has not been impacted, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2-7 Fire has burned approximately 606 acres with 20% containment reported, according to Cal Fire’s incident page. The 2-8 Fire has also burned around 1,326 acres in Copperopolis along Little John Road, with 15% containment.

Crews were also battling a fire dubbed the 2-3 Fire, which was first reported around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday near O’Byrnes Ferry Road and Copper Cove Court southeast of Copperopolis. The fire has burned at least 290 acres with 15% containment.

There were a handful of other fires that burned anywhere from 2 to 40 acres in the region.

The fires started as thunderstorms rolled through much of the Central Valley and the Bay Area. Cal Fire TCU said the fires were all believed to have been started by lightning.

Evacuation orders and road closures for the 6-5 Fire

A mandatory evacuation order was issued for the north end of Don Pedro Reservoir up north to Chinese Camp, where Highway 49 and Highway 108 meet. Here is a live map showing the affected area.

Cal Fire said the Sonora Senior Center at 540 Greenley Road in Sonora is an acting evacuation shelter. Chicken Rancho Casino Resort in Jamestown said it is offering a complimentary night’s stay to evacuees with a valid ID.

Caltrans said the Highway 120 and Highway 108 divide, known as Yosemite junction, is closed due to the fire with no estimated time for reopening. Highway 120 is closed from Chinese Camp to Jacksonville Road.

    Evacuation orders for 2-7 Fire

Four zones in evacuation orders were downgraded on Wednesday evening. Those zones include CCY-134-A, CCU-134-D, CCU-134-F and CCU-133-B. The latest on evacuations for the 2-7 Fire can be found online.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for the following zones:

    CCU-134-B
    CCU-134-E

Evacuation warnings are in place for the following zones:

    CCU-134-D
    CCU-143-B
    CCU-134-A
    CCU-134-F
    CCU-134-D
    CCU-133-B

Bret Harte High School at 364 Murphys Grade Road in Angels Camp is serving as an evacuation shelter.

Evacuation orders and road closures for 2-2 Fire

The 2-2 Fire prompted the closure of Highway 4 on Tuesday between Escalon Bellota Road in San Joaquin County and Telegraph Road in Calaveras County. It reopened in the afternoon.

As of about 11:45 a.m., the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office announced an evacuation order for zones CCU-155 and CCU-152-A, near the Calaveras-Stanislaus county line. Deputies said the affected area includes the Diamond 20 Ranch Estates along the north side of Highway 4.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, all orders for the 2-2 Fire were no longer in place.

Riverbank Fire: Road closures in place as crews mop up Stanislaus County fire

TOMORROW MORNING. BACK TO YOU. HEATHER. THANK YOU. WE’RE TRACKING A GRASS FIRE IN STANISLAUS COUNTY. LET’S SHOW YOU THE LATEST IMAGES FROM THE SCENE. THE FIRE DESTROYED A BUILDING AND DAMAGED THREE OTHERS. AND THIS STARTED AS A VEGETATION FIRE NEAR THE COMMUNITY OF RIVERBANK NEAR THE STANISLAUS RIVER, FORCING THE CLOSURE OF PARTS OF HIGHWAY 108, WHICH REMAINS CLOSED TONIGHT. KCRA 3’S ANDRES VALLE IS LIVE IN RIVERBANK, SO CREWS ARE STILL WORKING ON THAT FIRE. WHAT KIND OF PROGRESS ARE THEY MAKING? WELL, THEY’RE DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB OF CLEARING OUT THE HOTSPOTS. THERE’S A COUPLE HOTSPOTS RIGHT BEHIND ME HERE AS FIRE CREWS ARE WORKING ON THIS AREA, THIS PROPERTY THAT WE’RE ON. THERE’S STILL CERTAIN SPOTS THAT ARE STILL GLOWING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF FLAMES ON THE GROUND AS WELL. BUT WE WATCHED THE BULLDOZERS GO BACK AND FORTH IN THIS AREA TO CLEAR SOME DIRT. A LOT OF THIS AREA IS KIND OF A RURAL, A LOT OF FARMLAND. I WOULD SAY OVER HERE. BUT AT ONE POINT IN THE NIGHT THERE WAS ABOUT 40 FIRE ENGINES TACKLING THIS FIRE. THREE STRUCTURES DAMAGED, ONE STRUCTURE LOST TOTALLY. A FAST MOVING GRASS FIRE PROMPTING A LARGE RESPONSE FROM MULTIPLE NEARBY FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN RIVERBANK AS FLAMES BURNED DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO HOMES. WE ARRIVED. THEY FOUND A FIRE DOWN BY THE STANISLAUS RIVER APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF ENCAMPMENT. THEY TRIED TO ACCESS THE FIRE. IT SPREAD VERY QUICKLY. WE HAVE MIXED FUELS OUT HERE. A LOT OF LIGHT, FLASHY FUELS AND HEAVIER FUELS. THE WIND DRIVEN, FIRE CARRYING EMBERS TO AREAS NORTH OF HIGHWAY 108. THE DRY VEGETATION FUELING THE FIRE’S RAPID SPREAD AND CAUSING IT TO BURN IN MULTIPLE AREAS. YOU SEE, THE LINE AS HE WAS ABOUT TO JUMP IN THE SHOWER WHEN THE FIRE STARTED. MY SISTER, SHE CAME INTO MY ROOM SCREAMING LIKE, HEY, THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE! SO ME, I’M THE BIG BROTHER OF THE HOUSE. SO I JUMP IN A SURVIVAL MODE, GRABBED THE WATER HOSE AND I RAN OUTSIDE TRYING TO SPRAY THE FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GETS HERE. USING THIS 50 FOOT GARDEN HOSE TO TRY TO STOP THE FLAMES FROM BURNING HIS HOME AND HIS FAMILY WERE OVERWHELMED, BUT THANKFUL THAT FIRE CREWS ARRIVED IN TIME AND THEIR HOME WAS SPARED. THANK GOD, GIVE ALL GLORY TO GOD FIRST, BECAUSE DEFINITELY THIS COULD HAVE ESCALATED MORE IN THE WHOLE HOUSE. COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. SO LUCKILY IT DIDN’T. AND YEAH, LUCKILY IT DIDN’T. SO BACK OUT HERE LIVE, IT’S STILL EXTREMELY SMOKY. WE HAVE FIRE CREWS STILL OUT HERE WORKING ON THE MOP UP ON THE CLEANUP OF THIS FIRE. THEY WILL REMAIN HERE THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE NIGHT TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING’S OKAY. AS FAR AS THE FIRE GOES, INVESTIGATORS ARE NOW WORKING ON WHAT THE CAUSE OR WHO CAUSED THIS FIRE. BUT I WAS JUST SPEAKING TO A COUPLE OF THE RESIDENTS WHO TELL ME THEY STILL DON’T HAVE POWER AND THEY HAVE NO PLACE TO GO BECAUSE AGAIN, IT’S STILL REALLY SMOKY OUT HERE, AND THEY’RE HOPING THAT THEY DO GET SOME RESOURCES THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. AND THE STANISLAUS SHERIFF’S OFFICE ALSO HAS BEEN USING DRONES IN THIS SEARCH. AND HERE’S VIDEO OF HOW THE SCENE LOOKED EARLIER TODAY. SO WE KNOW DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A MOBILE HOME PARK ON THURSDAY AT AROUND 6:30 P.M. AFTER RECEIVING A CALL OF SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE WATER DROWNING, INCLUDING CHILDREN. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAID AN 11 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS STRUGGLING IN THE SAN JOAQUIN RIVER WHEN HER MOTHER JUMPED IN TO TRY TO SAVE HER, BUT SHE ALSO STARTED STRUGGLING. THAT’S WHEN THE GIRL’S 13 YEAR OLD BROTHER JUMPED IN AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT THE 11 YEAR OLD GIRL BACK TO SAFETY, BUT THE MOTHER DID NOT RESURFACE, AND THIS SEARCH AT THIS POINT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER THREE HOURS. WE DID SPEAK TO THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE ABOUT THE CONDITIONS THAT THEY HAVE FACED DURING THE SEARCH. UM, KIND OF A RURAL AREA OF THE SAN JOAQUIN RIVER. THERE’S NOT A LOT OF HOMES AND STUFF, A LOT OF BRANCHES AND DEBRIS AND ESPECIALLY WITH THE AMOUNT OF RAIN WE HAD OVER THIS PAST WINTER, THERE’S A LOT OF LOOSE DEBRIS. SO, UM, AS LONG AS THEY CAN SAFELY CONTINUE TO SEARCH, THEY’LL STAY OUT HERE. AND OFFICIALS DID TELL US RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE PULLED THE BOATS FROM THE WATER, BUT DEPUTIES WILL STAY HERE ALL NIGHT MAKING SURE THEY’RE STILL SEARCHING THE AREA. AND THE BOATS WILL BE BACK AT SUNRISE. WE KNOW THE CHILDREN IS SAFE, BUT THEY’RE STILL SEARCHING FOR THAT

According to the sheriff’s office, there were no other swimmers involved and this was not a boating accident. The man was swimming from one shore to another.

THERE IS A BIT OF A MARINE THERE, THERE. I’LL SHOW YOU THAT SATELLITE SHOT IN JUST A MOMENT, BUT PLAN FOR A COMFORTABLE MORNING. WE’RE STILL IN THE 40S FOR MOST OF YOU, AS THE SUN IS COMING UP AND WE DO HAVE, AGAIN, A COOL START TO THE DAY. A LITTLE WARMER, THOUGH. BY THE AFTERNOON AND THE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO STAY ON THE LIGHTER SCALE. HERE’S THAT SATELLITE LOOP GOING THROUGH THE LAST THREE HOURS. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE CLOSE TO THE COAST. THERE ARE SOME PATCHY AREAS OF FOG AND SOME OF THAT FOG TRYING TO WORK ITS WAY ACROSS THE CARQUINEZ STRAIT, AND A FEW PATCHES THERE. AS YOU REALLY KIND OF GET WEST OF FAIRFIELD. ASIDE FROM THAT, TODAY IS GOING TO BE A MAINLY SUNNY DAY. WE HAVE UPPER 40S CURRENTLY. AS YOU STEP OUT MODESTO TO 4747 IN SACRAMENTO. SAME STORY THERE AS YOU GET OUT THE DOOR INTO YUBA CITY. THREE REGION PLANNER TODAY, LAKE TAHOE WILL SEE DAYTIME HIGHS PUSHING INTO THE LOW 60S IN AUBURN. YOU’RE LOOKING AT A HIGH TODAY OF ABOUT 70 DEGREES. AND IN FAIRFIELD, PLAN FOR THOSE DAYTIME HIGHS INTO THE MID AND UPPER 70S. COMING UP IN MY FULL FORECAST, I’LL BREAK DOWN WHAT IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE THIS AFTERNOON IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. AND WHAT’S AHEAD FOR THE REST OF THE WORKWEEK. 702 IS THE TIME, BRIAN, TAKE US OUT TO TO THE ROADWAYS. MAKE SURE YOU GRAB YOUR SUNGLASSES BEFORE YOU HEAD OUT THE ROAD THIS MORNING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE GETTING ON INTERSTATE 80 AND THE CAUSEWAY HEADING EASTBOUND TOWARD THE SUNRISE THIS MORNING. IT IS BRIGHT OUT THERE. IT IS BEAUTIFUL AS WE’VE GOT A PRETTY EASY RIDE IN SHAPE FOR YOU HERE. HERE’S A LOOK AT WESTBOUND HIGHWAY 50 RIGHT NOW. NO PROBLEMS COMING IN A LITTLE SLOWING EASTBOUND 50 AS YOU MAKE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE FIX 50 PROJECT. WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 80. ALSO LOOKING GOOD. THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE COMING THROUGH MAYHUE RIGHT NOW AS YOU’RE MAKING YOUR WAY IN ON HIGHWAY 50. THERE YOU CAN SEE TRAFFIC STARTING TO PICK UP, BUT AGAIN, NO MAJOR DELAYS, FIVE AND 99 ALSO RUNNING AT THE SPEED LIMIT. YOU CAN SEE ALL THE GREEN ON THE MAP THERE. ALL RIGHT. THANKS SO MUCH, BRIAN. LET’S GIVE YOU A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE AT THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER. IT WILL BE PACKED TONIGHT AS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA’S TWO NBA TEAMS BATTLE TO STAY ALIVE IN THE CHASE FOR THE FINAL WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF SPOT. NOW, THERE ARE TWO PLAY IN GAMES TONIGHT. THE KINGS NEED TO WIN TO STAY ALIVE. THEN THEY WOULD TRAVEL TO THE LOSER OF THE GAME BETWEEN THE LAKERS AND NEW ORLEANS FOR A CHANCE TO STILL MAKE THOSE PLAYOFFS. AND WITH THESE ARCH RIVALS BATTLING, DOCO WILL BE BUZZING WITH EXCITEMENT TODAY. KCRA 3’S MIKE TESELLE JOINING US LIVE WITH A LOOK AT HOW BUSINESSES ARE HOPING THE KINGS KEEP A PLAYOFF RUN GOING. YEAH, AND GOOD MORNING. AND WE ARE LIVE ON THE GREEN ON THE PLAZA RIGHT OUTSIDE THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER. AND YOU KNOW THIS COLOR. IT’S PRETTY SYMBOLIC. THE KINGS HOPING THAT AFTER TONIGHT THEY HAVE THE GREEN LIGHT TO GO TO THE NEXT POSTSEASON GAME. MEANWHILE BUSINESSES THE GREEN THEY’RE HOPING TO CASH IN ON GREEN MONEY THAT IS. AND HERE’S WHY. TAKE A LOOK. YOU KNOW, LAST YEAR WHEN THE KINGS MADE THE PLAYOFFS, THE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP SAID THAT PEDESTRIAN VISITORS TRAFFIC AND THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT TRIPLED IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO, JUMPING FROM AN AVERAGE OF 15,000 PEOPLE. THEY SAW IN APRIL OF 2022 TO CLOSER TO 45,000 VISITORS LAST APRIL. DURING THE KINGS PLAYOFF RUN. I THINK IT IS A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY THAT WE CAN USE NOW, KNOWING THAT SPORTS CENTERS, CULTURAL CENTERS AND ART CENTERS ARE SUCH A DRAW AND SUCH A BENEFICIAL INVESTMENT FOR SACRAMENTO. SO THE CITY AND SO MUCH SO THAT MANY OTHER CITIES HAVE CONTACTED US TO GET OUR NUMBERS, TO GET OUR ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORTS. SO AGAIN, WHAT’S AT STAKE TONIGHT? I’LL EXPLAIN IT AGAIN, JUST IN CASE YOU’RE CATCHING UP ON THE NBA’S PLAYOFF STRUCTURE. WHAT’S AT STAKE HERE IS WHAT’S CALLED A PLAY IN GAME. THAT MEANS IT’S MUST WIN TONIGHT FOR THE KINGS OR THEIR OPPONENT, THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, TO STAY IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT WIN TONIGHT. THEN THEY HAVE ONE MORE GAME. THEY HAVE TO WIN. AND AGAIN THAT’S EITHER GOING TO BE AGAINST THOSE LOS ANGELES LAKERS OR THE NEW ORLEANS PELICANS. THE WINNER OF THAT GAME WILL BE ABLE TO START THE TRADITIONAL NBA PLAYOFF RUN. SO BACK OUT HERE LIVE ALL QUIET INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER. BUT BOY IT’S EXPECTED TO BE RAUCOUS OUT HERE ON THE PLAZA. AND THAT’S THE HOPE FOR BUSINESSES AROUND THIS AREA. IS THAT THOSE PEOPLE COMING DOWNTOWN FOR THIS GAME, THEY’LL NOT ONLY SPEND MONEY TONIGHT, BUT HOPEFULLY THE KINGS WILL WIN THESE NEXT TWO GAMES AND THOSE PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE TO COME FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE TRADITIONAL PLAYOFFS TO HOPEFULLY, AGAIN, CASH IN ON WHAT THEY SAW LAST YEAR, WHICH WAS A BUMP IN BUSINESS THANKS TO THE KINGS BEING IN THE PLAYOFFS. LIVE OUTSIDE THE GOLDEN ONE. CENTER MIKE TESELLE KCRA THREE NEWS. MIKE, THANKS SO MUCH. AND WE DO HAVE TEAM COVERAGE TONIGHT. MICHELLE DAPPER AND DEL RODGERS WILL BE INSIDE THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER TO COVER THE GAME. AND WE’LL BE OUTSIDE AT DOCO TO HEAR FROM FANS, JOIN OUR COVERAGE STARTING AT 4 P.M. OVER ON KCRA THREE. MEANWHILE, ALSO IN THE NEWS TODAY, A NEW BILL THAT WILL BE HEARD AT THE STATE CAPITOL IS RAISING CONCERNS FOR A GROUP OF MAJOR PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FRANCHISES. IT WILL OPEN TICKET SALES TO MORE COMPETITION. THE SAN FRANCISCO 40 NINERS, GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, L.A. RAMS AND SAN JOSE SHARKS WROTE A LETTER TO THE STATE LEGISLATURE OPPOSING THIS MEASURE. THEY SAY IT WOULD INVITE MORE FRAUD, INCREASED PRICE GOUGING AND THE SECONDARY MARKET. INVITE BOTS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, AND LIMIT OVERSIGHT FOR RESALE TICKETS. THE LETTER COMES AS SPORTS TEAMS WERE MADE EXEMPT FROM THE BILL’S REQUIREMENTS. SUPPORTER, HOWEVER, SAY OPENING UP TICKET SALES TO COMPETITION WOULD LEAD TO LOWER FEES AND BETTER SERVICE. THE BILL IS SET TO BE HEARD IN COMMITTEE TODAY. MEANTIME, THERE IS A POTENTIAL LEGAL CHALLENGE FOR THE OWNER OF TICKETMASTER, ACCORDING TO THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT IS EXPECTED TO FILE AN ANTITRUST LAWSUIT AGAINST LIVE NATION ENTERTAINMENT IN THE COMING WEEKS. THE TWO COMPANIES MERGED IN 2010 DESPITE CONCERNS ABOUT A POTENTIAL MONOPOLY. THEY’VE BEEN WIDELY CRITICIZED FOR THEIR HANDLING OF A MELTDOWN DURING THE TICKET SALE FOR TAYLOR SWIFTS HEIRESS TOUR. MANY TICKET BUYERS HAVE ALSO SUED THE COMPANY FOR ALLEGED PRICE FIXING. LIVE NATION CLAIMS PRICES ARE DETERMINED BY THE ARTISTS, TEAMS AND VENUES, AS WELL AS SUPPLY AND DEMAND. HAPPENING TODAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL, ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPS FROM ACROSS CALIFORNIA WILL BE HOLDING THEIR SECOND ANNUAL ANIMAL ADVOCACY DAY OF ACTION. YEAH, THEY’LL BE MEETING WITH LAWMAKERS TO PUSH SEVERAL BILLS AIMED AT PROTECTING PETS AND PET OWNERS. KCRA 3’S LETICIA ORDAZ ORDAZ IS LIVE AT THE CAPITOL NOW, WITH MORE ON THIS DAY LONG EVENT. LETICIA GOOD MORNING. BRENDA AND MIKE, GOOD MORNING, ANIMAL RIGHTS ADVOCATES ARE GOING TO BE HERE BY THE HUNDREDS AT THE STATE CAPITOL THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THEY’RE ADVOCATING FOR BIG CHANGES TO CALIFORNIA LAW. THEY SAY THIS IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO PROTECT SOME FURRY FRIENDS. SO SPEARHEADING TODAY’S EFFORT IS THE SAN FRANCISCO SPCA. THIS ANIMAL ADVOCACY DAY IN SACRAMENTO IS A PLAN TO MAKE EVERYONE’S VOICES HEARD. PEOPLE WILL MEET WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS AND SUPPORT CRITICAL PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT WILL HELP ANIMALS IN CALIFORNIA. THIS YEAR, THE SPCA WILL FOCUS ON THREE IMPORTANT ANIMAL WELFARE BILLS, INCLUDING AB 2216. THIS WOULD LIMIT LANDLORDS ABILITY TO CHARGE A MONTHLY PET RENT, OR TO HAVE A NO PET POLICY IN PLACE, A COMMON PRACTICE, ADVOCATES SAY, FORCES RENTERS TO GIVE UP THEIR PETS AND DISCOURAGES PET ADOPTION. ANOTHER BILL THEY ARE SUPPORTING TODAY IS SB 1233. THIS BILL WOULD ESTABLISH STANDARDS AND CERTIFICATION FOR PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY, HIGH VOLUME SPAY AND NEUTER SURGERIES TO ANIMALS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE PROTECTED IN THE PROCESS. THE EVENT STARTS AT NINE. THIS MORNING AND THEY’RE GOING TO BE HERE THROUGHOUT THE DAY, REPORTING LIVE HERE AT THE STATE CAPITOL. LETICIA ORDAZ KCRA THREE NEWS. ALL RIGHT, LETICIA, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT LIVE REPORT. ANOTHER BILL, THE ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUPS ARE SUPPORTING TODAY IS AB 2248. THIS WOULD CRACK DOWN ON COMMERCIAL PUPPY SELLERS WHO SELL PUPPIES WITH NONREFUNDABLE DEPOSITS AND DON’T DISCLOSE IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION. ALSO AT THE CAPITOL TODAY, SENATE MINORITY LEADER BRIAN JONES OF SAN DIEGO WILL INTRODUCE A BILL THAT CALLS FOR COMPASSIONATELY CLEARING HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS ACROSS THE STATE. IT’S MODELED AFTER SAN DIEGO’S SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN CALLED UNSAFE CAMPING ORDINANCE. THE BILL HAS BIPARTISAN SUPPORT AND IS CO-SPONSORED BY DEMOCRAT CATHERINE BLAKE SPEARE OF ENCINITAS, JONAS JONES, RATHER, AND BLAKE SPEER WILL BE DISCUSSING THE BILL AT NINE THIS MORNING, AND THEY’LL BE JOINED BY MEDIA PERSONALITY DOCTOR DREW PINSKY, ALONG WITH THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF VISTA, ALSO AT THE CAPITOL. TODAY IS IMMIGRANT DAY OF ACTION, ABOUT 500 PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE STATE WILL GATHER FOR AN EVENT AND RALLY. THE EVENT BEGINS AT TEN ON THE WEST STEPS, FOLLOWED BY A RALLY AT 1230. ALSO HAPPENING TODAY, GOVERNOR NEWSOM WILL WELCOME NORWAY’S PRINCE TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE GOVERNOR EXPECTED TO SIGN A NEW CLIMATE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NORWAY AND CALIFORNIA. HE’LL WELCOME THE CROWN PRINCE OF NORWAY AND HIS DELEGATION TO THE BAY. TODAY’S AGREEMENT IS SET TO BE SIGNED AROUND NOON, AND INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS LIKE THESE ARE NOT NEW FOR CALIFORNIA. IN FEBRUARY, NEWSOM SIGNED A RENEWED CLIMATE AGREEMENT WITH SWEDEN. THE GOVERNOR WENT TO CHINA JUST LAST YEAR IN A HIGH, HIGH PROFILE VISIT, PUSHING FOR MORE COLLABORATION ON TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE. A 13 YEAR OLD FROM SACRAMENTO IS AMONG THE SUSPECTS NOW IN CUSTODY IN A CARJACKING CASE. RIO VISTA POLICE SHARED THESE PHOTOS FROM THE END OF THE CHASE. THESE WERE SHOT BY A WITNESS. THEY SAY THE CITY’S FLOCK SAFETY CAMERAS FLAGGED A CARJACKED FORD F-150 TRUCK FROM SACRAMENTO AS IT WAS DRIVEN INTO THE CITY EARLY LAST NIGHT. AS THEY PULLED OVER THAT TRUCK, THEY SAY ONE TEEN JUMPED OUT, THEN RAN ACROSS HIGHWAY 12 WHILE OFFICERS ARRESTED TWO YOUNG MALES IN THE TRUCK. 13 AND 17 YEARS OLD. AN OFF DUTY OFFICER CAUGHT THE 16 YEAR OLD THAT RAN OFF. THEY ARE NOW HANDLING ALL THREE SUSPECTS OR HANDING THEM OVER TO SACRAMENTO POLICE. TIME RIGHT NOW IS 710. LET’S TALK WITH TRAFFIC EVERY TEN MINUTES. AND TAMARA ARE WE GOING TO CONTINUE THIS WARM UP? WE ARE. YEAH. IF YOU LIKE IT A LITTLE WARMER, WE CAN DO THAT FOR YOU TODAY. ALL RIGHT, SUNSHINE, A FEW HIGH CLOUDS HERE AND THERE. AND THAT’S REALLY GOING TO BE ABOUT IT TODAY. TEMPERATURES ARE GRADUALLY GOING TO BE WARMING IN THE AFTERNOON. AND WE’LL STEP OUTSIDE NOW WITH STOCKTON TO SHOW YOU THE ARENA CAM HERE. AS WE LOOK ACROSS THE THE AREA THERE GOING OUT TOWARDS WEBER POINT. SUN IS SHINING. IT’S 46 DEGREES. SO GRAB A JACKET BEFORE YOU STEP OUT THE DOOR. AND THE PORT CITY SAME STORY IN MODESTO, SACRAMENTO AND EVEN LAKE TAHOE. IT’S JUST 28 DEGREES IN TAHOE RIGHT NOW. 47 IN SACRAMENTO AT BANNER ISLAND BALLPARK. THE PORTS ARE PLAYING TO MIDDAY GAME, ACTUALLY, BECAUSE IT’S EDUCATION DAY OUT AT BANNER ISLAND BALLPARK, WE’RE LOOKING AT MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BY THE FIRST PITCH IN THE LOW, LOW 60S. SO KIDDOS, HEADING OUT FOR THE EDUCATION DAY OR FOLKS GOING GOING OUT TO THE BALLPARK, YOU’LL PROBABLY WANT TO LAYER TO START. BUT BY THE END OF THE GAME, WE’RE TALKING LOW 70S. AROUND THAT 2:00 TIME FRAME, SO IT WILL BE PLENTY WARM AS CONDITIONS. AGAIN, WE’LL KEEP WARMING AS THE DAY UNFOLDS. TODAY IN QUINCY, LOOKING AT HIGH OF 73. MILKY SKIES IN LAKE TAHOE. BUT BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON TO BE ON THE SLOPES. EVEN 60S EXPECTED HIGH WILL BE IN THE UPPER 60S IN POLLOCK PINES TO A HIGH OF 70 TODAY IN AUBURN AND SONORA JACKSON TOPS OUT IN THE UPPER 60S CLOSER TO THE COAST. FAIRFIELD WE’RE LOOKING AT MID 70S. THE WINDS SHOULD BE FAIRLY LIGHT AND YOU’LL BE LOOKING AT PLENTY OF SUNSHINE PAIRED WITH JUST A FEW HIGH CLOUDS TODAY. AND LODI GORGEOUS AFTERNOON FOR DOING SOME GARDENING OUTSIDE 74 DEGREES STOCKTON YOU’LL TOP OUT AT 77, AND IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE OUTSIDE THIS AFTERNOON IN ROSEVILLE, LOOKING AT A HIGH TODAY OF 78 DEGREES WILL BE AT 78. IN VACAVILLE 77 TODAY, AROUND DAVIS AND INTO DIXON COMING UP IN MY FULL FORECAST, I’LL SHOW YOU THE WARMER DAYS AHEAD THROUGH THE MIDDLE AND BACK HALF OF THE WEEK. 712 IS THE TIME. BRIAN, HOW ARE FOLKS MOVING ON THE ROADS? WE’VE GOT A SLOWDOWN EASTBOUND HIGHWAY 50. THIS IS THE CAMERA HERE AT 65TH STREET. YOU CAN SEE THAT SLOWDOWN JUST A LITTLE BIT FURTHER UP THE ROAD AT WATT AVENUE WE HAD A CRASH THAT WAS BLOCKING THE NUMBER ONE LANE. THEY’RE MOVING THAT OFF OF THE FREEWAY AS WE SPEAK. SO THIS SHOULD CLEAR OUT SHORTLY. BUT FOR NOW A LITTLE BIT OF A DELAY EASTBOUND. BUT THAT WESTBOUND RIDE COMING IN FROM THE FOLSOM AREA INTO DOWNTOWN, THE PEAK SIDE OF OUR COMMUTE THAT IS STILL LOOKING PRETTY GOOD THERE WITH NO SIGNIFICANT DELAYS. 80 STARTING TO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF A SLOWDOWN RIGHT AROUND THE GREENBACK AREA, BUT AGAIN, NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I-5 AND 99 LOOKING GOOD. NORTHBOUND FROM ELK GROVE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER SOUTH. NORTHBOUND 99 THOUGH, IS SLOW COMING UP TO AYERS LANE JUST BEFORE TWIN CITIES ROAD. THERE WE HAD A TWO VEHICLE CRASH. ONE OF THE VEHICLES BLOCKING THE FAST LANE. THEY JUST MOVED THAT OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER, SO HOPEFULLY WE’LL SEE A LITTLE BIT OF RELIEF. FOR THOSE OF YOU COMING UP 99 BUT NO PROBLEMS ON I-5. AND THAT’S TRUE THROUGH STOCKTON AS YOU CAN SEE HERE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. AND FOR SACRAMENTO, OUR TRAVEL TIME IS 11 MINUTES ON 50, 12 MINUTES ON 80 AND 11 MINUTES OUT OF ELK GROVE ON FIVE AND 99. (FOX40.COM) — Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, multiple fire agencies were called upon to tend to structure fires in Placer, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties.

According to social media, the Roseville Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, and Stockton Fire were all asked to put out residential fires between Saturday and Sunday morning.

The Stockton fire agency was called to a single-story, single-family home that was on fire early Saturday morning, the agency said on X. Video shows fire crews arriving at the fire and working quickly to extinguish the flames, but not before struggling to gain entry due to the fire’s intensity.

“Firefighters stretched an attack line and attempted forcible entry, but were driven off the porch by heavy fire,” Stockton Fire said. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Next, the Modesto Fire Department (MFD) said it responded to Boise Avenue in south Modesto early Sunday morning for a reported house on fire.

“Modesto Engine 10 arrived and found a house with fire in the attic and garage. All residents were safely out of the home before firefighters arrived.,” Modesto Fire said on Facebook. “The Modesto Fire Department and Modesto City Fire Fighters Local 1289 provided the residents with a $250 S.A.V.E. card to assist with their immediate needs.”

Finally, the Roseville Fire Department was called to a home fire in the Sierra Vista neighborhood around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to the agency, no one was inside the one-story home at the time of the fire, but five dogs and a snake required rescuing.

(FOX40.COM) — A man has been arrested by Modesto police officers for his role in a homicide that happened on Friday night, according to the Modesto Police Department.

The man, a 32-year-old from Ceres, turned himself in to police in the downtown area of the city around 3 p.m., the agency said.

On Friday night around 9 p.m., police responded to the area of 6th Street at the Highway 99 offramp to assist California Highway Patrol officers with a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Police said that upon arrival, the involved vehicle fled the scene while the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital. The woman would later be declared dead by medical personnel.

Detectives began to investigate and learned that an assault had taken place, police said. As the investigation continued, detectives were able to identify a suspect.
