A 27-year-old man wanted in the killings of a married couple at their home in a community south of Boston earlier this week has been captured in Florida, authorities announced Saturday.

Christopher Keeley was taken into custody at about 8:20 p.m. local time Friday in the city of Miami Beach by local police, according to a news release from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts.

It’s unclear how he was located. The arrest had followed a multiday manhunt for Keeley.

Carl Mattson and Vicki Mattson, both 70, were found “bludgeoned and stabbed” in their Marshfield, Massachusetts, home at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday by police responding to a request for a well-being check, the district attorney’s office said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A dog was also found dead inside the home, the district attorney’s office said.

In a news conference Wednesday, authorities identified Keeley as the suspect in the killings. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz told reporters Wednesday that Keeley was “acquainted” with the couple, although he did not disclose their exact relationship.

The victims were targeted, and the killings were not a random act of violence, Cruz said. No possible motive was disclosed.

A black Jeep Wrangler that belonged to the victims and Keeley was believed to be driving was found abandoned early Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle was found in a parking lot in Avon, which is approximately 15 miles from Marshfield.

A hearing will be held to determine if Keeley waives rendition, paving the way for him to be transported back to Massachusetts to face charges, the district attorney’s office said Saturday.

  • 15-year-old girl accused of stabbing father to death at south Lincoln apartment

15-year-old girl accused of stabbing father to death at south Lincoln apartment

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A 15-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her father, and her 16-year-old boyfriend is accused of helping.

On Monday around 4 p.m., Lincoln Police responded to The Lodge Apartments, southeast of 40th and Highway 2, after Sallie Gilmer, 15, called 911 saying she came home from school and found her father stabbed.

Officers found 70-year-old Jesse Gilmer had been stabbed to death.

After conducting interviews and gathering evidence, Sallie Gilmer was arrested for first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Her boyfriend, Isaac Honigschmidt, was arrested for aiding and abetting murder in the first degree. They were lodged in the Lancaster County Youth Services Center.

Lincoln Police Chief Teresa Ewins said they will be tried as adults due to the nature of the crime.

This killing marks the 10th homicide in Lincoln this year. This is a 122% increase over the previous five-year average and a 25% increase over the trends for just the last two years, but Chief Ewins maintains Lincoln people aren’t in danger.

“We can’t ignore what’s occurred, but the thing I constantly tell you when we’re looking at these cases is whether it’s random or interaction prior to event,” said Chief Ewins. “Every case we’ve brought forward is not random.”

Ewins said violent crime continues to be down compared to previous year average. Robberies are down 20% and aggravated assaults are down 21%.

“I feel very comfortable living in Lincoln,” Ewins said. “This is a very safe community and our officers are doing the best we can.”

Ewins said the number of major investigations, including five homicides in September alone, and the serious car accident officers have responded to are taking a toll on a stretched-thin department.
