  • The street style set are all wearing this skirt trend for autumn/ winter

    [ad_1]

Yes, fashion trends are fun to follow, but as any seasoned style enthusiast knows, true personal style isn’t dictated by the fleeting rhythm of the runway. It’s about knowing which trends work for you — and effortlessly weaving them into your existing wardrobe. The standout piece for Autumn/Winter 2025? The suede skirt.

If you’re sceptical, just take a glance at the street style from the recent fashion week circuit, where soft, velvety leather skirts — in every shape and shade imaginable — were spied on the chicest of women.

Now, if you’ve been keeping up with fashion’s current obsessions (or frequently find yourself scrolling the new in section of your favourite stores), you’ll know that the love for suede extends far beyond skirts. From jackets to boots to bags, the fuzzy leather fabric is topping the wishlists of stylish women and men across the globe — and selling out at a surprisingly swift pace. In fact, compiling this suede skirt shopping guide was no easy feat; some of the chicest pieces vanished before I could even hit save.

But what is it about suede that’s sparking such attention? For one, it’s a timeless wardrobe investment that will actually last in your collection for longer than one lifetime (a useful thought to keep in mind when choosing which pieces to invest in). And, simply, suede is particularly versatile: warmer than denim, softer than lacquered leather, and endlessly easy to style. Pair it with a fine knit and knee-high boots for day, a crisp shirt and trench coat for office polish, or a buttoned down cardigan and kitten heeled slingbacks for evening. Plus, let’s be honest, no fabric says Autumn/Winter quite like suede.

Interestingly, however, if you scan the Autumn/Winter 25 runways, you won’t find suede skirts dominating the line-ups. Instead, designers including Prada, Miu Miu, Versace and McQueen championed them earlier in the year for the Spring/Summer season, but the cleverest dressers knew to wait. After all, while suede may be timeless, it’s hardly ideal for balmy temperatures — no one wants a sweat-inducing skirt, thank you very much. Now that cooler days have arrived, the moment feels just right.

So, if you’re ready to step into suede season, below you’ll find my fashion editor-approved edit of the best suede skirts to invest in now — from midi to mini to maxi, in pencil, A-line and pleated cuts, across both neutral hues and standout shades. The only question left is: will you be going real or faux?

ICYMI: We’ve also found the best suede jackets, as well as the best suede bags, just in case you’re really feeling the fabric.

Sold on suede? We’ve rounded up the best suede skirts for you to shop below.

  • How to wear skirts in winter

    [ad_1]

How to wear skirts in winter, you ask? We’ve got you covered.

That transitional period between summer and autumn has disappeared, leaving us firmly on the road to winter. The window to wear those light jackets is closing (if not already closed, judging by the howling wind outside as I write this), and layering is becoming increasingly important. The desire to be out and about that comes with the sunshine has been replaced by a yearning for your duvet, fluffy dressing gown and a hot chocolate. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look good. You don’t have to hide your skirts away, just style them cleverly.

    Tights

Duh! I know this is an obvious one, but hear me out. Tights are extremely on-trend this year, making them more than just a practical layer. Lacy tights, black tights, coloured tights, patterned tights… You can have as much fun as you want – pair them with a mini skirt in a neutral colour and let them make the statement! Of course, for extra warmth, opaque and high-denier tights are the go-to.

    Trousers under skirts

While this might sound strange, it’s become a huge trend with the younger generations. Taking inspiration from the ’00s outfits of stars like Ashley Tisdale, the look was first memed, then copied (albeit with slightly more colour coordination and slightly less garish fabric choices). You can style this look yourself with skirts you already have in your wardrobe: pair them with straight-leg or bootcut jeans or smart black office trousers. However, if you want the guesswork taken out of it, there are plenty of pant styles online that come with a built-in skirt.

    Leggings under skirts

This one is less of a fashion statement and more of a hack. If you still want to wear your maxi skirts but don’t want the cold wind wafting around your legs, opt for leggings. This would be appropriate with long skirts that cover the leg and don’t allow the leggings to show; however, if you opt for an inoffensive black pair, it’s not the end of the world if they peek through occasionally.

    Thick, warm fabrics

Now, onto actual winter-friendly skirts. Long styles are an obvious choice, but miniskirts can also look super chic in the winter with the right tights and boots. Thick fabrics like wool, corduroy, velvet and suede will be a great addition to your winter wardrobe – providing both the much-needed insulation and that autumn/winter aesthetic.

    Winter-friendly colours

While the colour of your skirt won’t necessarily keep you toasty–although black does absorb the most heat, thanks GCSE Physics!–, it certainly will make you look the part. Opting for winter-friendly colours like burgundy, wine red, dark green, navy and, of course, black will make it look like you know what you’re doing. Trends come and go (this year’s favourite shade, for instance, is chocolate brown), but these winter-friendly shades will never go completely out of style.

Pair with a chunky knit or heavy-duty coat

To stay warm in the winter, you’ll need to invest in your upper layers, too. A winter skirt is nothing without a chunky knit on top, or a warm statement coat. You can opt for a jumper in the aforementioned winter-friendly shades, but I also think a white or cream chunky sweater looks very cool in the winter. Jacket styles are up to you: dramatic faux fur numbers, practical warm puffers, or, if you really want to be on-trend, coats with a cape! Layers are also key: a simple turtleneck in a neutral shade is perfect for popping on underneath these pieces, and will protect you from the elements (and that itchy jumper!)

The last time I wore a midi skirt was probably the summer after I started middle school. You could’ve called me Lizzie McGuire then, because I was a shameless outfit repeater. I wore one teal tiered peasant skirt just about everywhere. Now that I can look back at my middle school days fondly (instead of cringing), I’ll be the first to admit that despite my many fashion misses, that skirt was probably the best addition to my wardrobe at the time.

So when I began seeing long, white breezy skirts everywhere last summer — and was reminded of the merits of owning pieces that are easy to throw on in hot weather — I started looking for the perfect white skirt. After trying on dozens of skirts over the span of a year that were too long, too thin, or too sheer, I finally found the Lowen Midi Skirt ($60) at Free People — and it’s so good I’ve been outfit repeating (again) this summer.

    Main Image

What I Like About the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

What I love about the Lowen Midi Skirt is how effortlessly chic it is. In my opinion, a classic A-line silhouette is timeless. I also like that this billowy skirt is made of 100 percent cotton, which means it’s lightweight and comfortable for warm weather. And despite being airy and light, the skirt doesn’t feel thin, thanks to a poplin fabric that gives it a bit more structure. Another bonus? The skirt has pockets! Those were not expected, but of course greatly appreciated.

Another thing I look for in my summer staples is versatility, and I’m happy to report that I’ve already worn this skirt to a summer soirée, the airport, and lunch with friend; it’s safe to say that this skirt has earned its place in my wardrobe for the summer and beyond. I’ve paired the ivory skirt with some ballet flats and elevated accessories for a fancier feel and dressed it down by throwing on a T-shirt and sneakers, too.

What to Know Before Buying the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

I loved the fit and fabric of the skirt, but will admit that the skirt is still on the sheer side. I could get away with wearing skin-toned underwear or shorts underneath, but some might feel more comfortable with a slip.

The brand also notes that this particular style runs big, so you can size down for a more fitted look. I sized down and thought it fit just right — the elastic waistband cinched in my waist. The skirt length was accurate, but I will note that I’m just under 5’7″, so it may fit more like a maxi skirt than a midi skirt if you’re shorter than me.

Who the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt Is Best For

Free People’s Lowen Midi Skirt is perfect for anyone who is looking for a simple but chic addition to their wardrobe. The cotton material is flowy and comfortable, especially on hot days, which makes it a great piece for spring and summer.

Additional Details About the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

    • The Lowen Midi Skirt is made of 100 percent cotton.
    • The skirt comes in five colors: Ivory, Black, Sugar Magnolia, Heart Eyes, and Mellow Yellow.
    • It is available in sizes XS-XL.

We’ve been fans of Emma Stone since Superbad, so we’re elated to see that the Poor Things star and Oscar contender is having a truly spectacular award season.

Recently, the longtime Louis Vuitton ambassador wore one of our favorite winter staples—the camel coat—over chic LV separates to an appearance on Good Morning America in NYC. Primed for the frigid winter weather, Stone’s wool coat and suede boots added both warmth and tonal variety to her otherwise simple button-down shirt and midi skirt.

Fortunately for us Poor Things, this outfit combo can be executed with everything from designer separates to casual contemporary brands. Ahead, shop coats, shirts, midi skirts, and boots to re-create Stone’s head-turning daytime look—it’s super good

8 Skirt Outfit Trends to Try If You Want to Look Elegant This Winter

    [ad_1]

Wearing a skirt in the winter can be kind of tricky if you live somewhere that’s, well, wintery. But people are doing it anyway this year—because skirts are very popular. They may even be more popular than pants right now. I’ve noticed that stylish women are getting creative with how they style skirts as it gets colder, and I’m intrigued as I’ve acquired quite a few new skirts myself recently.

As one does when it’s winter and skirts are popular, I searched high and low for the best winter skirt outfits of the season so far, because as you know winter hasn’t even technically started yet and we have many months of warm outfits ahead of us. There’s no doubt miniskirts have been having a moment this season thanks in large part to their ubiquitous presence in the fall/winter 2023 collections. (Prada, I’m looking at you.) Personally, they’re pretty much all I’ve been wearing for the past few months sans tights for now because I live in L.A., but they’re often paired with socks and Mary Janes or cool moto boots.

One place I’ve seen the trend dominating is on the streets of Paris. As someone who studies and loves French-girl style, I’ve noticed higher hemlines styled in fresh and fashion-forward ways with that effortlessly cool je ne sais quoi.
