  • The “Magical” $4 Stovetop Cleaner I Couldn’t Live Without (Trust Me, I’ve Tried Dozens of Methods!)

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

A few years ago, my family moved into a new home with a glass induction cooktop. Before moving, I have to admit I had never actually heard of this type of stove — but over the years, I’ve grown to love it so much, I’m not sure I could live with anything else. It heats quickly and evenly, doesn’t heat up underneath (which allows me to have a fully-stocked utensil drawer directly under the cooktop), and, of course, it’s much easier to clean than pretty much any other type of cooktop.

But that doesn’t mean my cooktop always stays pristine — not with my family of six! Recently, my glass induction cooktop was looking pretty crusty, so I jumped at the chance to test three natural glass stove top cleaners (and one great product!) to see which was the best for getting a sparkling, streak-free clean on my glass stovetop. It was my first time trying the winner, but it instantly became my new go-to!

How We Tested the Best Methods to Clean a Glass Cooktop

Because my cooktop has four burners, I was able to divide the cooktop into four “zones” for testing these methods. My cooktop was evenly filthy with dried-on pasta water and tomato sauce across all four sections.

It’s important to note that the glass on an induction cooktop is technically a glass/ceramic mix. (For scientific types, this allows for low thermal expansion properties.) For the rest of us, it simply means it’s fragile! A glass cooktop should be handled with care, and that means no harsh cleaners or abrasive scrubbers. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy using natural cleaning methods for my glass cooktop.

The four methods I tested for cleaning my glass stovetop were: baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap; lemon and baking soda; vinegar and dish soap; and Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner.

For each method, I assigned a rating from 1 to 5; a 1 means the cleaning method was completely ineffective, and 5 means it was the best without any room for improvement. I’ve also included my own personal thoughts on the cleaning method and what I liked and disliked most about each process.

Note: Even though each of these methods utilize natural ingredients (and one product that’s specifically designed for cleaning glass cooktops), it’s always a good idea to check the product manual for your specific cooktop before getting started.

Glass Stovetop Cleaning Method: Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner

The method: Wipe your cool cooktop surface with a dry microfiber cloth or paper towel to remove any loose debris. Shake the bottle and apply Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner as directed — directly onto the cooktop or onto a damp, non-abrasive sponge. Rub the product all over the cooktop and let it sit for a few minutes. Carefully cleanse the surface with a non-abrasive cleaning pad or sponge. Remove the cleaning solution with a damp cloth, and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.

How it went: This was an instant winner — especially if your cooktop has tough stains or crusty spots, this product is the way to go. It’s a simple and effective way to clean a glass cooktop that leaves a perfectly shiny finish without a single streak. If you’re all about stretching your money, it’s nice to note that this specific Bar Keepers Friend can also be used on stainless steel or porcelain tubs, tiles, or sinks, and even copper, chrome, or brass finishes. I’m definitely going to incorporate this magic in a bottle into my kitchen cleaning routine in the future!

For a messy, crusty glass stovetop, Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner got the job done in only a few minutes, which was quicker than most of the other methods. At under $16 for a two-pack on Amazon, it isn’t too much of a splurge compared to other surface-specific cleaners. (You can also get the single bottle for $4.89 on Instacart or $4.48 at The Home Depot.) In my humble opinion as a home cook, it’s beyond worth it, as it was the best method I tested by far. Plus, it works on so many different surfaces all over the home.

Glass Stovetop Cleaning Method: Lemon and Baking Soda

The method: Cut a lemon in half, then squeeze the juice all over your completely cool glass cooktop. Use the lemon half to scrub the cooktop, spending extra time on spots with built-up food or grease. Then, sprinkle baking soda all over the cooktop surface. Dampen an old towel with hot water and lay the warm towel over the lemon and baking soda-covered stovetop. Leave the towel in place for at least 30 minutes (the longer, the better). Using the damp towel, gently wipe the surface until all baked-on spills and baking soda are removed.

“You will most likely have to rinse out the towel once or twice as you do this,” says Kathy Cohoon, operations manager at Two Maids & A Mop. Add distilled white vinegar to a spray bottle and spray the stovetop with it, using a dry cloth to clean off any residue, and buff until it shines.

How it went: I was surprised that I loved this method — I figured the lemon would leave a residue (a constant battle with a glass cooktop), but it didn’t whatsoever. The combination of the lemon and the baking soda was very effective at removing crusty food stains, and overall this method left my cooktop totally clean and streak-free. I will definitely use this cleaning method if my cooktop ever gets super dirty again, with crusty, built-up food stains specifically. Plus, I already had everything I needed!

Glass Stovetop Cleaning Method: Vinegar, Dish Soap & Water

The method: Wipe the cooktop surface with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any loose debris, then combine equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, adding a few drops of dish soap for tougher stains. Spray the mixture on the surface and let it sit for a few minutes. Carefully wipe the surface utilizing a non-abrasive cleaning pad. Remove the cleaning solution with a damp cloth, and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.

How it went: For a natural alternative to spray-on cooktop cleaners, this method is the way to go. It’s an effective cleaner and leaves the cooktop shiny and streak-free. I found that just one or two drops of dish soap was enough to clean the cooktop without adding unnecessary soap residue. In addition, the mixture of water and dish soap cuts down on the pungent vinegar smell, which I personally dislike. You can easily mix it in a spray bottle and store it underneath your kitchen sink anytime you need to spritz your cooktop clean. I plan to continue using this natural cleanser for my cooktop in the future.

Glass Stovetop Cleaning Method: Baking Soda, Vinegar & Dish Soap

The method: Wipe down the cooktop with a dry microfiber cloth and sprinkle baking soda generously all over the surface. Spray the stovetop with distilled white vinegar and it should start foaming. Cover the stovetop with a damp, soapy dish towel and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Use the dish towel to wipe everything up.

How it went: I didn’t love anything about this method. I’m not a huge fan of cleaning with a combination of baking soda and vinegar to begin with (although I do use it to clear drains!). I can’t stand the mess it makes, and the smell reminds me of those volcano science experiments I did as a kid. So I wasn’t surprised that this wasn’t my favorite method. The baking soda and vinegar combo did clear away built-up gunk from my cooktop, but left it heavily streaky. The damp dish towel is a good finishing touch in theory, but in practice it was just more (smelly!) laundry for me, and I had to shake out all the wet, clumpy baking soda before throwing the towel in the wash. I wouldn’t spend the extra time and effort on this cleaning method in the future.

All in all, you can’t go wrong with most of these methods — three of the four I’d definitely use again depending on how much time I have, what’s in my pantry, and how bad the mess is. The benefits of using baking soda, lemon, vinegar, and dish soap is that you likely already have them and don’t need to order anything specific. Whichever method you opt for, may your glass stovetop be sparkling!

  • A leather jacket is the savviest item to have in your wardrobe this autumn

The best leather jackets – real or vegan – are the ones that you only have to buy once; that you can hang in your wardrobe knowing each time you take it out it’ll look just as new as the day you bought it, and that you can dress up or down.

The blanket ‘wear with everything’ statement is a cliché, we agree, but when it comes to leather jackets, nothing could be truer. Thrown over the shoulders of your party dress at a function, paired with your best jeans on the weekend, or styled as part of your smart-casual dress code at the office, leather jackets are the outerwear you’re either already obsessed with or are about to be.

Wondering how to style a leather jacket? We’ve got you.

    SKIP TO:

What are the top styles of leather jackets to buy?

    1. The classic biker

Likely the first image that comes to mind when you think of a ‘leather jacket’ is the classic biker style motorcycle jacket. Created in the ’20s and made popular in the ’50s thanks to Hollywood actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean, leather biker jackets are usually shaped to a relaxed or oversized fit for that androgynous effect, but for a more modern style, look for slim silhouettes.

    2. The leather bomber

Your best bomber jacket, but leather. Elasticated at the cuffs and hem, a leather bomber jacket creates the same shape as a puffer jacket but (most times) without the padding. They’re perfect for wearing atop knitwear due to their roomy nature.

    3. The leather blazer

Want to wear a leather jacket to work but need it to be smarter than the usual offerings? Opt for a leather blazer – the cleaner-cut sister of the suede jackets you’ve seen everyone wearing recently. The two below from ALIGNE and ASOS DESIGN provide a flattering shape too, thanks to clever waist details.

    4. The leather aviator

Not to be confused with a bomber jacket, which shares the same history, the aviator jacket (or flight jacket) was designed to keep pilots warm in open-cockpit planes during World War I, evolving from heavy leather with sheepskin/shearling linings to more streamlined designs in World War II. Today, we’ve seen everyone from Cara Delevingne to editors at fashion week wearing them.

  • Our Place and Molly Baz Just Launched a Limited-Edition Kitchen Collection That’s So Stunning

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

Our Place entered the kitchen (and social) sphere back in 2019. Ever since the functional, non-toxic cookware hit the market, home cooks and chefs have been flocking to the brand. Most recently, cookbook author and former Bon Appétit Senior Food Editor Molly Baz joined the conversation with a limited-edition collaboration inspired in part by her beloved butter yellow kitchen, which she tragically lost in the Los Angeles fires earlier this year.

A color this dreamy is bound to sell out. (Our Place loyalists remember all too well how quickly Selena Gomez’s fun colors flew off the shelves.) My advice? Snag the butter yellow collection while you can. And while you’re at it, read up on the Recipes by Molly Baz that will put the items to good use.

What Is the Butter Yellow by Crocs Collection?

“If you know me, you know what a special place the butter kitchen had in my heart, so when Our Place approached me asking me to partner with them on the launch of their butter colored line of cookware, it felt like exactly the celebration and closure I needed,” Baz posted on Instagram. “If I’ve learned anything in [the] past 9 months, [it’s] that nothing is permanent, and the best way to live is in celebration of the exact life that you are living. Ya never know when it will all fall apart. So here’s to my beloved butter kitchen, and a really f*!#ing cute set of pots and pans to remember it by.”

  • This “Ingenious” $2 Gem Opens Tightly Sealed Jars in Seconds (Our Editors Love It)

“I gave up almost all plastic food containers a long time ago because they’re all so flimsy, and they leak and they stain and are generally terrible,” Andrea says. “I use almost exclusively glass now. The issue with glass is that it’s heavy, so if I need to actually transport food it’s not ideal.”

Enter: Yeti’s The Dash and Dine Set. With this $50 set, you’ll get three containers: one that fits just over one cup, another that holds up to three cups, and a third that can accommodate as much as 8.5 cups of food. The containers are made from plastic (half of which has been recycled), but they solve Andrea’s problem: “Not only do they never, ever leak, but they’re also super-rigid and tough, and they never stain. I love them for when I need a container that behaves like glass but is more lightweight.” They’re going to be especially handy as we head into the holiday!

  • My Favorite All-in-One Printer and Scanner Is $50 Off

While a printer upgrade might not sound like the most exciting way to spend your hard-earned dollars, the right machine can save you a ton of time and money. My favorite all-in-one printer and scanner, the Epson EcoTank ET-2980, is marked down by $50 on Amazon. It has all the features most home users will need, even daily printers, and is a much better value than ink cartridge, and even some laser printers.

    Photograph: Brad Bourque

In my testing, the Epson EcoTank ET-2980 was my favorite printer that included a scanner. I’ve continued to use the EcoTank long-term for the past few months, and I’ve been consistently impressed with the reliability and excellent print quality. I’ve printed photos, flyers for garage sales, and order invoices for my side business selling TCG cards, and everything has come out pristine and detailed. It was surprisingly easy to set up, with ink bottles that don’t drip or leave stains, and very little initial configuration.

While it may seem like a steep price for a new printer, the ink tanks make a huge difference when it comes to value. Epson includes enough ink in the box for thousands of pages, enough for the average home to print for years, and even if you do need more, the replacement ink is much cheaper than cartridges. In my quick and dirty estimates, you’ll generally break even on the more expensive Epson in just two rounds of cartridge replacements, depending on the brand. You’ll also sidestep concerns about subscription plans or first-party limitations.

There are really only two drawbacks to the ET-2980, and they’re both pretty minor. The first is, like any ink tank printer, it would really prefer to stay put. You can secure the parts for moving it, and I’ve had no issues swapping it from one desk to another, or moving it between rooms, but you’ll want to avoid tilting it or leaving it at an angle for too long, lest you end up with a mess on your hands. The other drawback is the paper tray, which has a solid path and good sensing for alignment, but only holds about 100 regular pages, or less than 20 envelopes.

  • This Spiced Drink Is So Good, Sipping It Has Become My Cozy Afternoon Ritual

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

Most of the time, I choose coffee over tea — but a warm cup of masala chai can persuade me otherwise. I usually keep a box of tea bags next to my Keurig so that I’m set whenever the urge for a soothing cup hits. The box there right now is Vahdam’s Sweet Cinnamon Masala Chai. I recently decided to give it a try, and now it’s become a staple in my afternoons.

What’s So Great About Vahdam’s Sweet Cinnamon Masala Chai?

It features just three ingredients — black tea, cinnamon, and cardamom — all of which are sourced in India. You can choose from a box of 30 tea bags or 100, if you’re a big chai fan. The 30-count box is perfect for me and costs $14.99, which means each mug is just under $0.50. Hard to argue with that!

My Honest Review of Vahdam’s Sweet Cinnamon Masala Chai

As soon as I smelled this tea’s warm, cinnamon-y aroma, I knew it was going to be good. Cinnamon definitely is the main flavor, which I love — especially this time of year. The cardamom adds a fragrant, slightly peppery note that goes so well with the cinnamon. Together, these two spices make for such a comforting cup of tea. Plus there’s a bit of caffeine in it, so it’s a great afternoon pick-me-up as it gets darker earlier.

I usually steep the tea bag in hot water for five minutes (the box’s instructions say three to five), and then mix in my favorite vanilla coffee creamer. You could totally add milk, sugar, or honey instead, but I love the combined sweetness and creaminess I get from the creamer. That hint of vanilla flavor also rounds out the warm spices really beautifully.

Vahdam also suggests that you could make it iced. On one of the warmer fall days, I might just have to give it a try.

What’s your favorite tea to make at home? Tell us about it in the comments below.

  • The Best USB-C Cables for Your Phone, Tablet, or Laptop

More USB-C Cables We Have Tested

There are so many cables out there, and plenty of solid options did not make the cut. Here are a few I’ve tested and liked.

    Photograph: Simon Hill

Twelve South PowerCord for $30: While I don’t think we want to go back to permanently attached cables and power adapters, they offer a simplicity that could be useful for some folks or situations. The PowerCord from Twelve South is thick and durable-feeling, with a tangle-resistant woven (4- or 10-foot) USB-C cable attached to a compact 30-watt (Power Delivery) wall plug.

EcoFlow Rapid Pro for $21: Kept out of a place above by Anker’s cables, this durable charging cable from EcoFlow is a solid choice if you want fast charging, since it can supply 240 watts. It also has tough metal ends, a lovely woven finish, and comes with a cable tie.

Nomad Chargekey for $29 and USB-C Cable for $25: The Chargekey is a handy wee addition to your keyring with 12 cm of braided cable capable of delivering 240 watts and up to 10 Gbps data transfer, though it can be a little awkward to use. I also tried Nomad’s new Kevlar-reinforced USB-C cable, which is also 240 W but only has 480 Mbps data transfer. It feels durable with metal ends and braided cable, but you can get more capable cables for less.

QDOS PowerMotion Ultra for £40: This USB 4.0 cable is a solid alternative to our top picks for folks in the UK, combining up to 240-watt charging with data transfer speeds up to 40 Gbps. It is relatively thick, feels durable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. I like the braided nylon finish and color-matched cable tie. I also tried the QDOS Powerloop (£20), a handy wearable charging cable that doubles as a lanyard strap. It’s thick, woven, and durable, with screw-off ends that reveal a USB-C cable capable of supplying 60 watts of power and 480 Mbps of data.

Chargeasap Connect Pro for $60: Magnetic tip cables can be handy for kids and folks with dexterity issues. The idea is you stick the relevant tip in your device and then attach the cable magnetically when you need to charge. This one also has an LED display to show real-time power usage. It works best if you leave the tips in your devices, but that means they can’t be charged by regular cables, and the tips are very easy to lose if you remove them. Performance-wise, it’s a standard 100-watt charging cable.

Krafted Connex for £30: I like the idea of a Swiss Army Knife–style charging cable keyring, but the execution here is flawed. It does offer USB-A, USB-C, Lightning, and MicroUSB, but the flip-out plugs don’t have any cable attached, so they are not very adjustable, making it tough to plug into some ports. The Rolling Square InCharge X 6-in-1 Cable above is the same price and works far better.

Scosche Strikeline Premium USB-C Cable for $25: This braided cable comes in various lengths all the way up to the 10-foot cable I tested, and it’s a good alternative to our best long cable above if data transfer is more important to you than charging speed because it offers 5 Gbps data speeds, but only 60 watts for charging.

Ugreen Uno USB-C Cable for $10: I love the smiley-faced Uno line from UGreen, but I assumed the display on this cable would show the charging rate. It does not. It just displays smiley eyes when charging and changes when fully charged. I tested the 6.6-foot cable, but it also comes in 1.6-, 3.3-, or 10-foot lengths. It feels durable and is reasonably priced, but it is rated at a very ordinary 100 watts and 480 Mbps.

Native Union Pocket Cable for $30: This wee braided USB-C to USB-C cable is perfect for slipping on a keyring to ensure you are never caught without a cable. It’s a nice design with braided cables, but you only get around 7 inches, and it maxes out at 60 watts. It is built to last from recycled materials, USB-IF certified, and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Caudabe ChargeFlex for $25: This was our Lightning recommendation, and it’s still good, but the price has gone up and there’s no need to spend this much. It is a thick braided cable reinforced with Kevlar for durability. There is a leather clip you can use for cable management, and the ridged finish on the connectors makes them easy to grip when unplugging.

Cable Matters Gen 2 USB-A to USB-C cable for $10: This is a good alternative to our pick above if you want faster data transfer speeds (it maxes out at 10 Gbps), but it is limited to 15 watts for charging.

Bluebonnet Eco-Friendly Charging Cable for $25: Bluebonnet (an Austin-based studio named after the Texas state flower) made this cable from naturally biodegradable wheat straw. It promises 50,000 plus bends and uses plastic-free packaging. I love the dappled blue finish and the cream ends. They make it easy to pick this cable out of the crowd. It’s nothing special performance-wise, offering up to 60-watt charging and 480 Mbps data transfer.

RUGD Rhino Power USB-C to USB-C for £11: This is a solid option for folks in the UK seeking a tough cable. It has a braided nylon finish and can withstand a minimum of 100 kilograms of tension and 100,000 bends. It can also deliver up to 60 watts.

Casetify Powerthru USB-C to Lightning Cable for $25: This tough, braided cable comes in some fun colors (most notably cotton candy), but it’s kinda pricey for a 100-watt charging cable.

Iniu Braided USB-C Cable for $6: This is a cheap, 6.6-foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable that tops out at 100 watts. Data transfer is only 480 Mbps. One end lights up green when it’s charging.

Lindy USB 3.2 Type C to C Cable for $23: These active cables are suitable for hooking monitors up to your computer, and they support up to 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz. They also support DisplayPort 1.4. I tested the longer 3- and 5-meter variants that max out at 60 watts for Power Delivery and 10 Gbps for data (but they’re out of stock). The shorter cable linked here can go up to 20 Gbps. They work well and feel durable, but they’re a bit pricey.

Satechi USB-C to USB-C Charging Cable for $20: Gear from Satechi always has a classy look, and its braided nylon cables are no exception. This one is 6.5 feet, has a Velcro strap, and is capable of 100-watt charging, with support for PD and QC. Sadly, data transfer is limited to 480 Mbps.

Plugable Thunderbolt 4 Transfer Cable for $70: This active Thunderbolt 4 USB-C to USB-C cable matches our top pick with support for 100-watt charging and data transfers up to 40 Gbps. It is 6.6 feet long and comes with a two-year warranty.

Belkin Boost Charge USB-C for $10: This cable maxes out at 12 watts and 480 Mbps. The basic PVC finish is the cheapest, but you can opt for braided nylon too; both come in black or white at 3.3 or 6.6 feet. These cables are USB-IF certified and work as advertised (I’ve been using one in the car for the last few months).

  • Bye, lip balm – these moisturising masks do so much more

Treat your lips without breaking the bank by using our Space NK discount codes.

Tester feedback from managing editor Alessandra Foresto

“I should really not be surprised that this lip mask is superior to any other I have tested in the past, given that I haven’t been disappointed by any Tatcha product I’ve ever tested. This mask works fast, though, leaving my lips flake-free almost as instantly as the jelly-like product touches my lips – it’s pretty impressive! I let it soak into my lips at night, but I also use it as a softening primer with my skin care in the mornings before applying gloss.” — Alessandra Foresto, managing editor.

    • Key ingredients: triisostearin (glycerin, fatty acids), squalane, vitamin E, allantoin.
    • Who it’s for: anyone with cracked lips.
    • Shade count: 1.
    • Fragrance free: no.

Best Exfoliating: Ilia Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment

    Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment

Shopping Director Shanna Shipin applying Ilia Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment.

    Shanna Shipin

Why it’s worth it: Everything about Ilia’s Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment feels special, from its silky texture to the faintest tingle once the balm hits your lips. The formula includes papaya enzymes that gently slough away dry patches, plus hyaluronic acid and sea succulents that lock hydration in. Mango butter and coconut oil also moisturise, for noticeably smoother, softer, and more supple lips by morning – a perfect canvas for your favourite lipstick, oil, or gloss.

Tester feedback from Shopping Director Shanna Shipin

“Perennial dehydration, eczema, and constantly testing lip products give me grade-A chapped lips. Whenever my lips look shrivelled, I feel like my lines are deepening, or if there’s some peeling, this mask will re-hydrate, gently buff, and plump them up. Seriously, almost every time I use this overnight, I wake up with better lips. They’re soft, pillowy, and perfectly primed for whatever lippie I want to wear. Just note that there are some white exfoliating bits in the pot, so you may pick one up (and unknowingly leave it on your lips)!” — Shanna Shipin, Shopping Director.

    • Key ingredients: hyaluronic acid, papaya enzymes, mango butter, coconut oil, salicornia (sea succulent).
    • Who it’s for: anyone with dry, flaky lips.
    • Shade count: 1.
    • Fragrance free: yes.

Best for Layering: Then I Met You Honey Dew Lip Mask

Commerce Editor Sarah Han applying Then I Met You Honey Dew Lip Mask.

    Sarah Han

Why it’s worth it: There are many reasons we love this juicy Then I Met You Honey Dew Lip Mask. For starters, the convenient silicone tip makes for more hygienic application that doesn’t involve dipping your finger into a pot. Then, there’s the blend of hydrating ingredients, like honeydew melon, squalane, and avocado oil, alongside lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and dissolves dead skin cells the way a lip scrub would – sans mess.

The formula is buildable: A thin layer applied during the day adds a glossy finish, while a thicker layer at night conditions and softens lips while you sleep. Bonus? “The product has a mild fruity scent and flavour that doesn’t make my boyfriend go, ‘Ack!’ every time I kiss him,” senior news editor Nicola Dall’Asen says.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

“My lips are a dry, chapped mess without constant care – meaning, lip balm prep before my usual lip stains in the morning and, perhaps more importantly, slathering on a healthy dose of lip mask as my final last nighttime skin-care step. Then I Met You’s Honey Dew Lip Mask works any time of the day, but I save it for nighttime and apply many layers for maximum masking benefits. Unlike other lip masks, I love that it contains a hit of lactic acid for that all-important exfoliation without the mess of a scrub (which I can never be bothered to use anyway!). The hydration of it all is a given: honeydew, squalane, avocado oil, honey, etc. Despite multiple layers, it doesn’t feel goopy or heavy, and my lips stay pillowy-soft and smooth come morning.” — Sarah Han, Commerce Editor.

    • Key ingredients: honeydew melon, squalane, honey, lactic acid.
    • Who it’s for: people who want a lightweight mask that can double as a daytime gloss.
    • Shade count: 1.
    • Fragrance free: no.

    More lip masks we love:

    • Kiehl’s Buttermask for Lips is our favourite fragrance-free option. Chock-full of nourishing ingredients like mango butter, coconut oil, and cocoa, with a creamy (not sticky!) consistency, it’s worth the splurge. Blanket your lips with a hefty coat of the stuff before bed and, come morning, you’ll wake up with supple, hydrated lips. Although it’s fragrance-free (making it ideal for sensitive skin types), the formula smells sweet, thanks in part to cocoa butter and vanilla extract.
    • Lawless Forget The Filler Overnight Lip Plumping Mask is the key to a plumper pout (as the name implies), which gradually boosts volume and nourishes very dry lips. While the brand’s beloved lip plumpers also contain MaxiLip, a peptide-packed complex, this formula doubles the amount – and packs ceramides, shea butter, and eight different forms and weights of hyaluronic acid.

    Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need a lip mask?

Lip masks are a great addition to any lip-care routine, but they’re especially helpful when bouts of seasonal dryness, chapping, and flaking hit. Chapped lips can develop anywhere, anytime, on anyone for a variety of reasons, including environmental factors (like sun damage), allergies, and lip-irritating habits like biting or picking the skin. Like a lip balm, these masks mainly rely on moisturizing ingredients (some of which we’ll dive into below). But masks have more concentrated formulas to provide more significant smoothing and plumping results in a shorter amount of time than a balm.

Which ingredients are found in lip masks?

Emollients like ceramides and fatty acids often do much of the heavy lifting in lip masks. But, as with face masks, you can find other active ingredients that promise more targeted results. For instance, you can find formulas that exfoliate (making quick work of flakes) and offer a subtle plumping effect, as well as others that boost collagen production to tackle fine lines around the mouth. Slather on these moisturising treatments while you sleep, commute to work, or whenever you need long-lasting hydration.

  • I Officially Ditched Plastic in My Kitchen Last Month — These Brilliant Finds Are Actually Saving Me Money

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

    Why I’m Quitting Plastic

So while things like plastic containers and bags are convenient and have been commonplace for as long as I can remember, I decided that the convenience isn’t worth the possible effects on my family’s health — so here’s what I tried instead.

The Plastic Kitchen Items I Swapped Out

First, I decided to replace all of the cutting boards in my kitchen. I had a pack of cheap flexible cutting boards that had honestly been grossing me out for a while. Over time, the boards had become stained and scratched up and had visible pieces of tiny plastic coming off from knife cuts over time.

I replaced them with a few wood cutting boards from brands like Viking and Kenmore that I knew would be high-quality and hold up over time. (I especially loved this one from Viking that has compartments to separate all of your chopped foods!).

Next on the chopping block were the plastic food storage containers I often used to store (and reheat) leftovers in. Not only were the containers potentially leaking microplastics every time they touched hot food, but they also created a huge mess of mismatched lids and containers in my cabinet.

Next, I swapped out plastic cooking tools like spatulas and serving spoons with silicone and metal ones. While silicone may look and feel similar to plastic, it has a different molecular structure, so it doesn’t shed microplastics in the same way standard plastic does.

I love this silicone set from Great Jones. Their cooking tools and cookware come in so many fun colors, like blueberry and bright pink. They also do fun collabs and collections for movies like Ratatouille. I found metal cooking tools from Viking, Smithey, and Piglet In Bed (which also makes really cute table linens) that I really enjoyed using every day.

I also decided to switch out some of the single-use plastic items and containers I use on a daily basis. I use olive oil in my cooking pretty often, which also means that I go through plastic bottles of it quickly. I feel bad every time I have to recycle one, so I’ve been wanting to get a reusable container for a while. This way, I could also head to a local refill store so it doesn’t come in a plastic bottle in the first place!

I discovered ceramic artist Gina Desantis, who makes beautiful pieces in earthy tones that I knew would look great in my kitchen. Each piece is handmade so no two ever look the same, resulting in some really beautiful and unique pieces. I went with the oil cruet with a sort of brown ombré effect. The container comes with an effective metal spout and rubber cover that allows for the perfect pour every time. (You can also find some of her products on Anthropologie!).

To replace the plastic storage bags that I often use to marinate meats in the fridge or store chopped veggies, I went with these stainless steel prep trays from Japanese brand JOC Goods. These trays truly make me feel like a professional chef whenever I use them! Not only is the presentation great, but they’re also really convenient to use and clean in the dishwasher.

What to Do with Your Plastic Kitchen Items

If you’re worried about what to do with your old plastic kitchen items, there are plenty of places you can sell, donate, or recycle them. Look into local food banks, shelters, or animal rescues to see if they’re in need of anything you’re discarding. (As long as the plastic isn’t being used to touch food directly, it’s harder for microplastics to be ingested.)

Of course, you don’t have to get rid of them at all if you’re really after reducing your waste output. Items like plastic bags and containers can be reused again and again until the wheels fall off, so to speak. Before getting rid of your plastic kitchen items, here are some ways to reuse them around your home:

    So, Will I Stay Plastic-Free?

Overall, the transition from plastic to its alternatives in the kitchen was fairly easy — far less difficult than I imagined it’d be. I’m not sure if it’s because of recent studies about microplastics or consumer demand for plastic alternatives, but so many brands have tons of great nonplastic options, and they’re only getting more and more commonplace.

I don’t plan on going back to using plastic for any of the kitchen items I already replaced, even after just a month of use. Because all of them were built to last! In the first 30 days, I noticed how much less waste I had created, which meant I was taking the trash and recycling out less frequently, and it felt good to be getting a little bit closer to zero waste.

And while the initial investment in some of these replacements might cost more than buying their plastic competitors, it’s definitely worth it in the long term. If you want to try making the change but don’t have the budget to replace your entire kitchen at once, try doing it slowly. Replace a few items here and there until you’re totally plastic-free in the kitchen. The planet and your body will thank you.

  • Amazon’s 2 Best-Selling Espresso Machines are on Sale Before Prime Day

Hi. it turns out Prime Day is only really a suggestion on the calendar. A lot of brands like to kick out early Prime Day deals before getting lost in the big din of Prime Big Deal Days on October 7-8. (See here for early Prime Day deals on laptops, earbuds, and more.)

The two most popular espresso machines on Earth—as judged by Amazon sales, anyway–are both on sale for $100 off this week, ahead of Amazon Prime Day’s October reprise. These are a couple of the best early Prime Day Deals.

$100 off Ninja Luxe Cafe Premier Before Prime Day

    Ninja

Luxe Cafe Premier Series Espresso Machine

The most exciting deal of the pair is probably the Ninja Luxe Cafe Premier ($500), on sale for the lowest price we’ve ever seen it.

When Ninja announced it was jumping into the semiautomatic espresso market, I didn’t know quite what to make of it. But Ninja seems to have applied its general flair for multipurpose machines to this beautifully beginner-friendly espresso machine with a 25-setting conical burr grinder, a built-in scale (thank you), and options for cold brew and drip coffee.

WIRED contributing reviewer Tyler Shane was likewise skeptical of Ninja’s first espresso device when it arrived but ended up loving the excellent milk steaming and the fact that this Ninja grinds espresso shots by weight. (Why doesn’t everybody?) She also appreciated the reasonable price—a price that’s even more reasonable ahead of Prime Day.

    $100 off Breville Barista Express

    Breville Barista Express

    Courtesy of Breville

Breville’s Barista Express ($600) semiautomatic espresso machine has been Amazon’s best-selling espresso machine for years—so long it’s hard to remember a time when it wasn’t the top-selling pick.

Why’s it so popular? It’s a Goldilocks thing—a mix of accessible price, Breville’s excellent reputation for customer service on high-ticket items, and beautiful ease of use on a semiautomatic machine with a built-in grinder that makes full-flavored, well-extracted espresso. This $100 discount isn’t quite the lowest price we’ve seen on it—it’s been down to $550 before—but it’s a very good price.

And besides, this Breville has the merit of being a tried-and-true machine. WIRED reviewer Julian Chokkattu has been pulling shots from his Barista Express for six years now, and it’s still going strong. No wonder the Express has been among WIRED’s top espresso machine picks for ages.

  • Are mocha loafers the perfect autumn shoe we’ve been looking for?

Mocha loafers are having a major moment. Why? Well, first, there’s the colour. What is it about coffee that makes it oh so appealing to the Instagrammer inside us all? Trendsetters, content creators, fashion icons and photographers alike all seem to be drawn to the creamy, deep, dark perfection of that chocolate-y coffee shade of brown. It’s no wonder Pantone chose ‘Mocha Mousse’ as the colour of the year for 2025.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for the colour to creep into trends on both runways and on the street. And the timing couldn’t be better. After all, nothing screams autumn quite like a delicious, deep chocolate coffee shade of brown. From bags to scarves to trousers to jumpers to jackets, mocha is popping up everywhere. But nowhere is it more appealing than on a classic shoe. A loafer, to be precise. And this season, the ‘mocha loafer’ is the perfect autumnal back-to-school staple.

Perfect for stomping around the city, sitting at the office, or even dressing up for an evening look, we’re calling it. This is the comfy, versatile, stylish shoe of the season.

    Moritz Scholz/Getty Images

In fact, we predict that it will easily take over from the classic black loafer that has dominated the loafer scene for years. They are just as versatile, but they add a little something. You can combine them with a contrasting sock – try red, sky blue, or pink – or opt for a more classy look, such as beige, another shade of brown, black, or grey. You can also wear them with just about anythingjeans, a suit jacket or an autumnal dress. So, yes, this year, it’s time to caffeinate your footwear game with a pair of mocha loafers.

  • ‘If you drink it and it’s sweet…’: Florida woman says there’s a trick to find out whether Liquid I.V. is for you. Then she tests it out

Over the past few years, hydration has gained significant popularity on social media. Because plain water isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, some have opted for flavor alternatives, such as WaterTok recipes, sports drinks, or Liquid I.V. for their hydration needs. One woman claims that the taste of Liquid I.V. can determine your hydration levels. Is this true?

In a clip with 5.6 million views, Florida TikToker Savona (@iamsavona) shares her recent discovery.

“I just found out something about Liquid I.V. If you drink it and it’s sweet, it means you’re dehydrated. If you drink it and it’s salty, it means you’re hydrated,” she says.

Then, she pulls out her pink tumbler. “I have some in here. I’m gonna try it out. Let’s see,” she says. After the content creator pulls open the cap and takes a few gulps, she delivers the verdict. “I’m definitely dehydrated,” she states.

Savona describes the flavor in the caption, “Mmm [tastes] like sugar water.”

    What did viewers say?

Many shared the flavors they experienced when drinking Liquid I.V.

“What if it’s a sweet AND salty taste?” one viewer with over 16,000 likes asked.

“I’m never hydrated and it’s super salty for me,” another remarked.

“It was the most disgustingly sweet thing I ever tasted,” a third stated.

An avid fan of the company didn’t care about the taste. “I love liquid iv I don’t care how it taste imma drink it,” a fourth commented.

    Liquid I.V. enters the chat

However, the company debunked Savona’s claim in the comments section. “Hi! some of the known signs of dehydration include headaches, fatigue, and thirst, however taste does not play a role in a person’s hydration status,” they refuted.

    How dehydration affects the body

There is a common phenomenon where 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration. However, the NIH states there is not enough data to support this. Since Savona mentioned taste, dehydration can make things saltier, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Because saliva contains salt, it can become diluted if you don’t drink enough water.

On the other hand, this also applies to all tastes if you have a dry mouth. This condition alters your taste buds, preventing your salivary glands from producing enough saliva. Nevertheless, dehydration affects everyone’s taste buds differently. For instance, one person may taste salt, while the other tastes sour. But the effects of dehydration don’t stop there. But dehydration isn’t limited to your mouth. Humans consist of approximately 60% water, making hydration essential for flushing out toxins and delivering nutrients to our cells in the body, per Dispatch Health. When this happens, some of the consequences include:

    • Hallucinations
    • Heat-related injuries
    • Unconsciousness
    • Hypovolemic shock
    • Seizures
    • Reduction of kidney and urinary function
    • Organ failure
    • Death

Keep in mind that overhydration is also detrimental; so, it’s essential to find the right balance.

Frozen foods have become a go-to in my household over the last year or so. That’s largely thanks to QVC, which offers tons of delicious options like chicken fried chicken, stuffed gnocchi, hot dogs, and so much more. These frozen foods make dinner (and lunch … and even sometimes breakfast) stress-free because of how easy and fast the meals are to make.

Recently I grabbed a new-to-me frozen meal that will be on rotation for the foreseeable future: Mama Mancini’s Chicken Parm Meatballs in Sauce. After hearing good things about the brand’s beef meatballs from my coworkers, I had to try this variation of the Italian American dish.

What’s So Great About Mama Mancini’s Chicken Parm Meatballs in Sauce?

The meatballs are made with chicken, filled with a four-cheese mixture (mozzarella, ricotta, Pecorino Romano, and Parmesan), and covered in an absolutely delicious tomato sauce. They’re available at QVC in packs of four for just $70 right now (they’re on sale!). There are five meatballs per pack, and plenty of tomato sauce to pour over them.

Plus, they’re so easy to make: You can reheat them in the microwave, which takes all of five minutes (perfect for busy weeknights). There are stovetop and oven instructions, too. Just remember to thaw them in the fridge before making them!

My Honest Review of Mama Mancini’s Chicken Parm Meatballs in Sauce

Mama Mancini’s Chicken Parm Meatballs in Sauce is such an easy and quick frozen breakfast, lunch, and dinner option to keep on hand. Yes, I said breakfast. My Italian American fiancé woke up recently craving meatballs, and when I told him we had these in our freezer he proceeded to make some in the microwave.

These chicken meatballs are tender and juicy with a cheesy center that gets perfectly ooey-gooey. My favorite part has to be the red sauce — which is serious coming from someone who is a devoted cream sauce fan. It’s zippy, bright, aromatic, and nicely balanced (it doesn’t lean too sweet or too acidic). It truly tastes as good as homemade (although let’s not tell my mother-in-law that, OK?).
