How to Shop at 5 Wildly Popular Stores Without Looking Like Everyone Else

    [ad_1]

One day in middle school, I wore the exact same checked, button-down shirt from Gap Kids as my friend that I shared pretty much every class with. (It was a very small school and yes, I wore Gap Kids until approximately age 15.) 25 years later, I still remember that day. This probably sounds ridiculous because it’s happened to all of us at one time or another, but who knows why we remember what we do.

My purpose in sharing this is that dressing like everyone else can be annoying for some, but it can also be hard to avoid when we all like to shop at the same stores—because they’re good. While I’m always fascinated by what the best-selling items from any given brand are, I also don’t want to show up wearing the same exact thing as my friend. So I’ve figured out a few simple tricks when shopping popular brands like Zara and Reformation. Read on to learn more and to shop pieces that you don’t have to worry about looking like everyone else in.

  • The Wildly Chic Bags You’re About to See Everywhere Are Under $500

The Wildly Chic Bags You’re About to See Everywhere Are Under $500

    [ad_1]

What inspired the design of the bags?

Joni Pangsaeng: When designing this collection, we were inspired by the aesthetic shift that’s happening right now. There is definitely a movement towards a more minimalist, understated energy and investing in key pieces. We focused on creating classic shapes that speak to different facets of the Ref customer’s life and wardrobe. The collection is a mix of ’90s minimalism with a few nods to the early aughts and an overall emphasis on beautiful, high-quality materials.

What are your tips for styling the bags for spring/summer?

JP: The oversized Vittoria is such a great statement bag. We love that big bag shapes are returning. Basically, you can live out of this bag. This silhouette looks great paired with your favorite pair of relaxed pants (like the Mason Pants or Cary Jeans) or maxi denim skirt (Nila Skirt) and a clean white tee for that ’90s minimalist look.

Rosetta is our most versatile bag, a classic hobo shape inspired by the early aughts. We love the idea of pairing a pop-colored bag, like the Mini Rosetta in Heather, with a monochromatic look like this knit set or a denim-on-denim vibe (Val Jeans paired with the Simone Jacket).

Chiara is such a great event bag, the convertibility is definitely a key feature of this style. It can be worn as a shoulder bag or wristlet. Ideal for all your upcoming weddings or just a night on the town, this shape looks perfect paired with a printed dress or pastel look styled back to an optic white bag.

    What’s next for Ref bags?

JP: This is an ongoing category we’ll be offering online and in all our stores long-term. We’re focused on these three core shapes for the near future but will refresh the category on a monthly basis with small drops of new colorways. You can expect a larger drop with new shapes and fabrications in time for fall!

Everyone Wants to Get Their Hands On These 15 Reformation Dresses, Specifically

    [ad_1]

I’ve stated in multiple stories that Reformation is a lot more than just dresses. It really has all of your fashion needs covered at this point. But it was their stunning dresses that they were initially known for. And the dresses have just kept getting better over the years. In fact, it’s one of the rare brands that can even start a dress trend on its own. I visit Reformation’s Bestsellers section regularly, but I wanted the up-to-the-minute scoop on the most popular dresses of the season, so I went straight to the source.

Reformation’s design team shared with me the specific dress styles everyone is shopping right now, and I can see why these stunning options are so popular. From event-worthy silk dresses to more casual knit minidresses, there’s something for every dress need in this round-up. • From Tory Burch to Bottega, 8 Must-Visit Stores in Miami’s Design District

From Tory Burch to Bottega, 8 Must-Visit Stores in Miami’s Design District

    [ad_1]

Much like Melrose Place in West Hollywood and SoHo in New York, the Design District in Miami is quickly establishing itself as a global shopping destination for the aesthetically-driven, design-minded, and fashion-obsessive among us. Within the last year alone, Acne Studios, Cult Gaia, and Nodaleto have all opened up their doors in the area alongside established luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci who have called the District home for nearly a decade.

While the shopping is really good, this neighborhood is hardly exclusive to fashion brands. It’s also a hub for art (the Institute for Contemporary Art museum is just steps away from the clothing stores), interior design (Fendi Casa and B&B Italia also call it home), and food (restaurants Contessa, Mandolin and Swan bring crowds of stylish diners).

On a recent trip to Florida’s cultural capital, I decided to acquaint myself with the Design District and I spent an afternoon browsing its best stores both new and old. As someone with a keen appreciation for art and design, I was mesmerized by the store design and architecture of these spaces as much as the clothing and accessories themselves. From Bottega Veneta’s dusty pink spiral staircase to the silver couch inside the Cult Gaia store, the stores I popped into were simply put, an experience.

Ahead, I’m diving into the eight best stores I checked out in Miami’s Design District and highlighting the key buys that wowed me from each of them. Bookmark these names for your next visit if you know what’s good for you.

  • What to Buy From Reformation If You Want a Fire Spring Wardrobe

What to Buy From Reformation If You Want a Fire Spring Wardrobe

    [ad_1]

Welcome to The Great Try-On. We’re gearing up for spring, and that includes freshening up our wardrobes with some new pieces. We got to try on some of the best spring pieces from some of your favorite brands and documented it all from our at-home dressing rooms so that you can see how they actually look IRL. We hope that our photos and candid reviews will help you shop for spring wardrobe builders and trend-forward pieces that you’ll wear over and over this season and beyond.

As someone who was pregnant for all last spring and half of summer, you cannot imagine how lacking my wardrobe is in the warm-weather department. Especially given how quickly trends, silhouettes, and hemlines fall in and out of favor these days, the things I bought two years ago now feel borderline irrelevant, and I’m more than ready to invest in new pieces for the coming months. That’s why I was beyond excited when I learned I’d been given carte blanche to order and try on anything I wanted from Reformationall in the name of journalism. After all, the brand is synonymous with trend-forward dressing but also manages to make some of the best basics and investment items in the game, so I knew I could cover all my bases.

So what did I try? If you know me, you won’t be surprised to see that I stuck to a neutral color palette consisting of black, white, cream, denim, and olive green. However, I did go out of my comfort zone on a couple of items, including a pair of baggy parachute pants and an ultra-romantic linen dress. Not surprisingly, I fell in love with everything, so to see, read about, and shop all my Ref picks for spring, simply keep scrolling.

She’s in Shock! 41 New Reformation Finds That Put Me in a Genuine Trance

    [ad_1]

Given how much time I spend looking through clothes every day for work, I’ve built up a tolerance of sorts to the awe of it all. There was a time in my life when I couldn’t possibly have stared at beautiful things all day everyday without feeling called to indulge. But these days, my shopping guard is strong, and only on rare occasions do I stumble across items that feel really and truly too good to pass up. This is one such case.

You see, Reformation has never really been a brand that feels like me. I always associated it with linen separates and sundresses, and since I’ve never been felt comfortable in that feminine, cottagecore-adjacent aesthetic, I naturally didn’t set aside a ton of attention for the brand. But in recent years, I’ve noticed a hard shift in Reformation’s merchandise. And after scouring its most recent arrivals for spring, I’m throwing my hands up in defeat and admitting that I was wrong about the brand. Finally, I get what all the hype’s about—I’ve been converted.

Scrolling through its spring offering, I had genuine feelings of shock and awe as I grasped just how chic the items I was looking at were, especially given the mid-level price range. But there’s no need to simply take my word for it. From designer-quality footwear to dresses I’d literally get married in, see all 40 of the new Reformation items that altered my brain chemistry during my latest digital perusal.

  • I Tried On 19 Pairs of Black Skinny Jeans—These 7 Are the Best

I Tried On 19 Pairs of Black Skinny Jeans—These 7 Are the Best

    [ad_1]

They may not be the most exciting thing in a closet, but a good pair of black skinny jeans is a wardrobe essential that I can’t imagine life without. This was made much more apparent to me recently when I got rid of my trusted pair of black skinnies that I’d worn for years and were definitely past their prime. Only once this key piece was missing from my closet did I realize just how important it was that I invest in a new pair. (You really don’t know a good thing until it’s gone, amirite?) I have L.A. style, after all, so I wear jeans pretty much every day, and a black, skinny option was very noticeably absent after only a few weeks.

So I set out on the most daunting quest of them all: denim shopping. Nothing gives me a headache quite like the glare of fluorescent dressing-room lighting, but I wanted to make sure I weighed all my options before deciding on a new pair. Since virtually every brand under the sun makes a basic black skinny, I had many options to choose from. To save all of you the same headache (and unflattering lighting), I’m here to share my tips on how to find the best black skinny jeans. I tried on a total of 19 pairs between in-store and online orders, but there were only seven true winners that I would feel 100% confident replacing my old pair with. The brands I didn’t like shall remain nameless, but the ones I did are going to get a huge shout-out momentarily. Below, my seven holy-grail pairs and why I feel so strongly about them. Plus, some poorly lit fitting-room selfies for your entertainment.

  • 2023 Spring Fashion Trends Before TikTok Tells You

2023 Spring Fashion Trends Before TikTok Tells You

    [ad_1]

Spring is approaching! Next time you look up it’ll be all April showers bringing May flowers. As I type this article, it’s a balmy 60 degrees outside. Practically Bermuda-esque weather for New York.

And while it may snow next week, this weather has me looking forward to those cute outfits I can debut in the spring. 2022 winter fashion brought us apres-ski chic and lace detailing, but I’m anticipating some big changes in the fashion world as the weather warms up. People are feeling risky…I can tell.

The weather is getting warmer and jeans are getting tighter. Don’t panic, we aren’t diving into the deep end and bringing back skinny jeans or jeggings. It’s all about a straight leg or minimal bootcut flare.

Multiple Fashion Weeks have come and gone, and I have a good picture of what retailers are about to push out in stores soon. 2023 spring fashion trends include heavy denim and satin-style cargo pants. With an emphasis on casual comfort and pants with lots of pockets, spring 2023 fashion will look very familiar.

If you’re looking to catch the spring trends a little early this year, look no further. I’ve scoured every page of Vogue and every paparazzi shot of off-duty models like Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski. And I’ve most definitely kept up with the Kardashians, our ever-present trend dictators.

    An Excessive Amount Of Pockets

    Nina Agdal

    Shutterstock

Whether it be a pair of cargo pants or a mini-skirt, anticipate the cargo-style pocket to be sewn on. We are focusing on Y2K style again, as always. All different types of cargo pants like satin will be on trend.

Pair your cargo pants with a cropped baby tee for the ultimate Y2K resurgence. We want enough pockets that you could arguably fit multiple phones and wallets at once.

    90’s Style Strapless Tops

    Reformation Clothing

We all know and love the strapless top, but the 90’s style involves a looser top. They pair well with the ever-so-highly debated low-rise jeans, which are still trending. It’s a bit more flowy and forgiving than a tight top, so I’m a fan.

This type of top reminds me of the early 2000’s red carpet style. Tuck it into high waisted jeans for a tucked in look that’s perfect for spring weather.

Full Denim Fits & Skinnier Jeans

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake may have been the founders of the full denim fit, but it looks like we’re bringing it back this spring. Denim strapless tops, denim accents, everything is all denim. You’ll also see less of the baggy style jeans and more fitted, straight leg styles.

These Levi’s are perfect for this spring’s hottest pair of denim, and if you’re looking for a fun denim addition to your closet, try this top.

    Lingerie-Inspired Detailing

    Billie Eilish

    AFF-USA/Shutterstock

We’re back to playing the “is-it-lingerie-or-is-it-acceptable-to-wear-in-public” game. Think all lace bodysuits and mesh everything. Slip dresses with lace applique and deep v cuts will be the star of the show.

If you have to question whether you bought it in the underwear section of the store, you’re probably right on trend. Lingerie-inspired clothing is back and if you want a more understated look, throw on an oversized blazer and tailored menswear style pants.

    Quilted Jackets

Street Style, Spring Summer 2021, Milan Fashion Week, Italy

    Cornel Cristian Petrus/Shutterstock

Vogue says if you have one jacket this spring, make it a quilted one. And since our fashion Bible says a shell coat can be the perfect transitional weather piece, we must listen. The quilted jacket has been worn by Gigi Hadid, and can be layered on top of your favorite sweater.

This quilted jacket by ASOS is my favorite piece in this article. As someone who was a big fan of the shacket, the quilted jacket is a more elevated approach on a spring favorite.

    Silks & Satins

I’ve seen a bunch of silk cargo pants online when browsing, but that’s not all. We’re bringing back the low-rise silk maxi skirt that’s reminiscent of every beach commercial ever. It’s an essential piece for a brunch outfit or the transitional weather we’ll be experiencing.

    I like this
satin mini for weekends out on the town with a moto jacket (also a spring favorite), and this silk maxi for a bottomless mimosa brunch with friends.

  • Reformation’s New Going-Out Top Is Perfect for Wearing With Jeans

Reformation’s New Going-Out Top Is Perfect for Wearing With Jeans

    [ad_1]

Remember your favorite going-out top from, like, a decade ago? Well, it’s back and better than ever. We’re excited to see this dressy-casual trend is making a comeback along with retro denim fits, slingback heels, and sleek, sculptural accessories.

Of course, fashion darling Reformation is leading the resurgence with several fun new tops in contemporary styles and luxe materials, like the Sian Linen Top. This piece is the perfect amalgamation of a collared long-sleeve and a corset bodice, which is easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. We love how it is styled with jeans and heeled loafers—easy yet editorial.

With buttery-smooth silk and top-quality linen, we’re confident that Reformation has a piece that makes it worth staying out past midnight. But if daytime festivities are already taking over your calendar, there are several Bridgerton-approved floral patterns that are perfect for everything from boozy brunch to bridal showers.

  • Reformation Is Officially Bringing Back This ’90s Shoe Trend

Reformation Is Officially Bringing Back This ’90s Shoe Trend

    [ad_1]

By now, fashion lovers all know to expect a surge in florals for spring, but the designers at Reformation have taken it one specific step further: footwear with daisy details.

Focusing on a single flower, the humble daisy, is a smart choice since it aligns with the retro ’90s trends that have made a major comeback as of late. The simple flower motif harkens back to simpler times when one would spend hours flipping through pages of the latest Delia’s catalog and collaging with images from stacks of fashion magazines. Today, we have moved on to endless e-commerce tabs and digital vision boards, but the ethos remains the same: the 1990s were a powerful decade for fashion.

Ahead, shop a few fun pairs of shoes with daisy details, plus more fantastic footwear available now at Reformation. And, if you love the ’90s look but daisies aren’t your thing, don’t worry—there are plenty of throwback styles to quench your thirst for nostalgia.

I Want All of My Sweaters to Come From J.Crew and Ref—30 Styles I’m Eyeing

    [ad_1]

I go through a similar cycle every single year. When fall first comes around, I avoid the sweater-and-jeans combo since I am scared that I’ll get bored of it too quickly. I opt for sweaters and miniskirts or jeans and blouses. But around January, I finally take a break from styling fabulous outfits to simply ease into my collection of sweaters and slightly flared jeans and wear the same outfit formula on repeat. Honestly, it never fails. I’ve officially reached that point, and I’m looking for ways to shake things up while still feeling comfortable. This means my closet is open and ready to receive new sweaters to play around with.

I love all of the trendy sweaters I’ve seen at fast-fashion retailers, but I’m looking for classic items that are made from high-quality fabrics and will last for seasons and seasons to come. That’s why I decided to turn to J.Crew and Reformation, and I found exactly what I was looking for. Below, see the 30 sweaters I’m considering adding to my wardrobe.

  • I Rarely Wear Black Jeans, But I’m Changing My Tune After Seeing These Outfits

I Rarely Wear Black Jeans, But I’m Changing My Tune After Seeing These Outfits

    [ad_1]

I was (fashionably) late to the jean party. My first foray into pants was experimenting with my mom’s old stirrup leggings, but beyond that, dresses and skirts were strictly my jam. Anything with separate legs felt restrictive and as far as hemlines were concerned, the shorter the better.

That all changed when I discovered vintage in high school. Turned onto the “joy of the hunt” by a friend, I became addicted to the adrenaline rush of discovering one-of-a-kind pieces. My previous grievances against pants were quickly forgotten when I fell for a pair of perfectly worn-in Levi’s. This was holy grail denim: buttery soft, slightly androgynous, and in the most perfect sky blue wash. I was hooked, and my repertoire expanded quickly: frayed cutoffs in lieu of miniskirts, indigo bootcut jeans over slip dresses. My sweaters were set aside in favor of oversized, distressed denim jackets. I’d turned into a true blue-jean baby.

Denim still factors heavily in my closet. I’m in jeans almost every day. Recently, I crossed over to the dark side. Black jeans create a totally different look, and I was keen to switch things up. Revamping my denim drawer made me feel like I was in high school again, chasing a high through different cuts and washes. If you’ve recently fallen into a denim rut, read on to revitalize your black denim spark.

The 6 Items French Girls Wear to Stay Warm and Still Look Cool

    [ad_1]

Les Francaises have a knack for making everything look as easy as un, deux, trois. From their no-makeup makeup to the breathy way they draw out their ouis, French women seem to have being effortless cornered. This is particularly true in winter, when looking cute can feel like a Herculean task. Even at subzero temperatures, French women move about unbothered, which felt novel to this Californian; the last thing I feel like doing when it’s cold and gray out is putting together a look.

But the French have it down to a science! This is partly due to how they shop. French women typically invest in a few good pieces per season, favoring timeless pieces over au courant trends. A well-cut coat. Sticking to long-lasting durable fabrics that drape well. After my first winter in Paris, I picked up a few tips to make cold-weather dressing more fun—as well as a shearling coat and pair of camel riding boots that I still own today (after all, practice makes perfect.)

Follow along, and we’ll meet at the intersection of cozy and chic.

  • I Describe My Style as Fun Yet Wearable—These Shoe Trends Hit It for Me

I Describe My Style as Fun Yet Wearable—These Shoe Trends Hit It for Me

    [ad_1]

They say fairytales can leave a lasting impression on kids. For me, it was Cinderella. Here was this poor girl who hustled away. Her only friends the literal rodents in her house. She finally gets an invite to the hottest soirée in town, gets all dolled up, and then LOSES her incredible heels (borrowed, no less) after only one wear! The emotional hangover must’ve been real, and I was just as relieved as she must’ve been to get them back. (Side note: Does shoe sizing not exist in fairytales?) It proved to me that the right pair of shoes really can change your life. (And a glass shoe? How chic is that?)

Needless to say, I’ve been a shoe gal since. Any time we went away on a family vacation, my dad would grumble and say, “Do you really need that many shoes? We’re only gone for a week,” to which my mom and I would respond, “Exactly!” A lot could happen in a week. What if we got stuck without the right footwear? It felt silly, and we were nothing if not practical.

That practically has evolved since. I still adore a vertiginous heel every now and then, but after a few hard-learned lessons (almost destroying my ankle on some Parisian cobblestone, for one), I’m looking for function alongside fun. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not totally above buying eye-candy shoes; it’s just that they should feel as sweet on my soles—like the ones I’ve listed below.

I Asked My Tallest Colleagues What Jeans They Love Best

    [ad_1]

As much as we love The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, we know that the perfect jeans are not a one-size-fits-all situation. Whether you’re curvy, petite, plus-size, tall, or a combination of fits, finding the perfect jeans takes time, patience, and effort. Even though online shopping has made it simple to send several styles to your doorstep at once, they can easily disappoint if you don’t know exactly what you want—or what fits you best.

In addition to searching for qualities that are important like style, wash, fit, and price, it’s also important to be aware of something that isn’t always apparent in online photos: length.

Both petite and tall frames require different inseams, and while tailoring is always an option, what’s better than finding a practically perfect fit straight off of the rack? We already polled our short-statured colleagues to unearth the best denim styles for petite women, so it was only fair that we provide the same assessment for the more statuesque ladies among us. And you bet they delivered the deets.
