  • William Just ‘Rejected’ Harry’s Attempt to Reconcile as Charles Officially Decides if He Wants to Reunite With His Son Amid His ‘Deteriorated’ Health

    [ad_1]

King Charles and Prince Harry are reportedly really close to reconciliation. Aides from the two recently met, something which was widely considered a first step towards the two putting an end to their feud. And now, it seems like that’s finally happening. Though the reconciliation between father and son doesn’t necessarily mean the family issues are over.

Prince Harry and King Charles are reportedly set to reunite next month in the U.K. The Duke of Sussex will be in London on Sept. 8, which just so happens to be the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, for the annual WellChild Awards, and The Mirror is reporting there is “determination on both sides to make [a reunion] happen.”

Related: Here’s what each royal inherited from Queen Elizabeth

“Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry,” the outlet also reported.

A few months ago Prince Harry had publicly pleaded for a reconciliation in a BBC interview, “I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said, adding that, “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff [the Sussex family is entitled to in the U.K.], but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Now, that feels like it’s going to actually happen. The insider told The Mirror that “for the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach” especially because the two teams  “have opened a line of communication.”

“There is every hope that father and son will see one another when the Duke returns to London in September after 20 months apart.” The two have reportedly not spoken since February of 2024.

But this, reportedly, doesn’t include Prince William. “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand,” the insider added.

King Charles, however, is moving ahead with his decision to mend fences with his son. RadarOnline reported that he’s not doing all that well. “He is now shuffling around with a cane – and hitting the bottle, and in particular whisky, to numb the pain and despair he feels.” The situation was even described as “a sad end for him,” with other sources saying “his health has deteriorated significantly in recent months.”

The King is reportedly “facing a tough, losing battle with his illness,” with the pain greatly influencing his cannabis use, on top of his alcohol use.

Despite the fact that Prince William and Harry don’t seem anywhere near close to reconciling, as Harry and King Charles do, news about the King’s health gives credence to a recent Parade report that indicated the King’s failing health might be the thing that finally brings the two brothers back together. “King Charles really isn’t doing well,” adding that, “It wouldn’t be surprising if William and Harry reconnected a bit more over this.”

“This could be the thing that pushes it to happen,” the insider concluded. And though it doesn’t seem like it’s happening now, with the King and Harry on better terms, it might just be a matter of time.

  • Kate Middleton and Prince William Confirm Their Excitement About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement

    [ad_1]

This wasn’t the first time William and Swift met. On November 26, 2013, they duetted at the Winter White Gala at Kensington Palace, belting out the Jon Bon Jovi hit “Livin’ On a Prayer” to benefit charity. “He was very nice. I was really glad to have met him,” Swift said at the time. Years later, in a 2021 interview, William remembered his impromptu rock star moment. “I went to a charity fundraising gala for Centrepoint,” he said, where “Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which nearly knocked me off my feet.”

“I’m sat next to Taylor Swift. She’s on my left. And after Jon does his first song, there’s a pause, and she turns to me. She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye, and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s go and sing,’” he remembered. “To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in. But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”

William was “a little scared,” Taylor had recounted. The prince was even clearer: “Beneath my black tie, there was a lot of sweating going on. I felt like a swan, where I was trying to keep myself composed on the outside, but inside, the little legs are paddling fast. When I do speeches and things like that, I’ve done so many now, they’re not a problem. But I’ve not done singing. At times, when you’re taken out of your comfort zone, you’ve got to roll with it.”

Given her years of history with William, beginning with encouraging him to step out of that royal comfort zone, then, it’s no surprise that Swift has received that royal blessing for her and Kelce’s happy news.

  • How Prince Philip’s Advice Changed Kate Middleton’s Relationship With the Media

    [ad_1]

Whenever a camera is pointed at her, Kate Middleton thinks of Prince Philip. Before his death, the husband of the late Queen Elizabeth II gave the royal several pieces of advice on how best to cope with the media frenzy surrounding the royal family. He knew better than anyone: marrying a future king or queen is no mean feat.

Princess Kate’s every move is scrutinized by the public and immortalized by a camera, wielded by a palace photographer, a journalist, or a commoner, a smartphone held at arm’s length. According to biographer Gyles Brandreth’s 2021 book, Philip: The Final Portrait, the Duke of Edinburgh gave Kate a piece of advice that shaped her approach to the public.

“If you think the attention is on you personally, you’ll end up in trouble,” Philip told her, per Hello!. “The focus is on your role, what you do, what you support. It’s not focused on you as an individual. You’re not a celebrity. You represent the royal family. That’s all.”

This lesson in humility has paid off, as Prince William’s wife is now the most popular member of the royal family, hailed for her discretion, elegance, and devotion to the causes she holds dear. Philip himself was full of praise for Kate Middleton, commending her sensible and level-headed character, according to Brandreth.

The advice he gave her also enabled her to adjust her behavior with the media. The key? Never look at the lens, and stay focused on the person you’re talking to, no matter how many recorders are nearby. While Prince Philip was always known for his attentiveness to the youngest members of the family, it seems that Kate was particularly touched by their exchanges. So much so that royal experts see similarities in their very different backgrounds: “Kate shines in her own light, but she knows her place in the royal family. She never tries to overshadow her husband,” Penny Junor, a royal family biographer, told the Daily Mail. “I think Kate is a bit like Prince Philip, who has always supported Queen Elizabeth II.”

There are also whispers that Kate and William are inspired by the longevity of Elizabeth and Philip’s marriage as they look toward the future. Their elders enjoyed 73 years of marriage, until the Duke of Edinburgh’s death on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. The Queen passed away on September 8 of the following year, aged 96.

  • Is This Familiar Face Kate Middleton’s New Stylist?

    [ad_1]

Kate Middleton is one of the world’s most watched, commented on, and admired personalities, not least for her impeccable sense of style. She has become one of the world’s most elegant style icons, a champion for British designers and an advocate of responsible consumption. Her looks, through their provenance or hues, often convey powerful messages that require meticulous behind-the-scenes work to prepare.

Until recently, this task has fallen to Natasha Archer. For 15 years, the Briton traveled the world at Kate’s side, planning her outfits, some of which have become iconic. A witness to major family events and royal tragedies, she ultimately became her confidante. But in mid-July, she announced that she was stepping down from her position to concentrate on launching her own fashion design firm. The big question remains: who will succeed her?

The British media are largely convinced that the future queen’s stylist will be Virginia Chadwyck-Healey, nicknamed Ginnie by friends. A former market editor at U.K. Vogue, she’s no stranger to grappling with both fashion and public relations. Today, while continuing to write about style for the Telegraph and Sky News, she also advises private clients through her styling firm, VCH Style. She encourages her clients to “embrace the need for less” and “shop better,” according to her website, a philosophy that fits in perfectly with Kate’s personal fashion ethics.

    Dave Benett/Getty Images

The daughter of a Lord, Chadwyck-Healey has moved in the same circles as the princess for many years. Like Kate, she studied art history at St Andrews University. Also like Kate, she met her future husband Oliver there—the couple were invited to the royal wedding of Kate and Prince William in April 2011. And like Kate, she now lives with her three children in Berkshire, west of London.

Beyond her CV and her proximity to Wales, Chadwyck-Healey has a third major asset: she has already been Kate’s stylist. In 2019, while Natasha Archer was on maternity leave, royal fans spotted a subtle change in style in Prince William’s wife. The journalist was the reason. “Ginnie is Catherine’s secret weapon,” a royal source told the Daily Mail. “She has made a big difference to the Duchess’s wardrobe for public engagements and has helped give her a whole new sense of confidence.” Catherine was said to be “impressed” and “very grateful” for Chadwyck-Healey’s help.

Fans of royal fashion are even more convinced of Chadwyck-Healey’s frontrunner status since Carole Middleton’s appearance at Wimbledon. She wore a loose-fitting striped dress, the result of a collaboration between Chadwyck-Healey and the Beulah London label, which Kate is particularly fond of. And we all know that the most discreet clues about royal fashion often speak the loudest.

For the moment, nothing has been confirmed. The Telegraph also highlighted the possibility of another contender, Jamie Earlam, who, according to her LinkedIn page, is currently the personal clothing assistant to the Wales family. Will Kate Middleton buy Ginnie Chadwyck-Healey’s expertise, or will she surprise us by choosing an unexpected candidate? The answer can’t be far away.

  • What Did Prince Harry and Prince William Really Do at King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Wedding?

    [ad_1]

Prince William and Prince Harry officially welcomed Queen Camilla as their stepmother on April 9, 2005. At the time, the whole world was watching the second marriage of King Charles III—then the Prince of Wales—who divorced the late Princess Diana nine years earlier.

Grant Harrold, the monarch’s former butler, shared excerpt from his book, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service, to the British newspaper The Telegraph on the occasion of its publication. One of the passages contains a sweet memory of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s big day. But it was above all the reactions of Princes William and Harry that struck the former butler.

“At the end of the festivities, Charles and Camilla were catching a flight to head straight to Birkhall [on the Balmoral estate],” he writes in the book. “We all went outside to wave them off and laughed as we saw William and Harry had decorated their car with ‘Just Married.’ As they drove off through the arches to cheers, the boys raced after the car.”

Charles and Camilla pose with their children, Prince Harry, Prince William, Laura and Tom Parker Bowles, in Windsor Castle’s white drawing room for group photo after their wedding at the Guildhall in April 2005.

There are, however, other versions of this anecdote, less poetic than the picture painted by Harrold.

In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry tells a very different story. “There are published reports that Willy and I snuck out of the church and hung JUST MARRIED signs on their car. I don’t think so. I might’ve hung a sign: BE HAPPY. If I’d thought of it at the time,” he wrote. According to the book, the two brothers instead asked their father not to marry his beloved. “We support you, we said. We endorse Camilla, we said. Just please don’t marry her. Just be together, Pa.”

One thing’s for sure: a mystery remains, and only the principals involved know the truth.

  • William Is Taking Another Step Forward in Stripping Andrew’s Royal Title After Reports His Uncle Was With 40 Women in 1 Night

    [ad_1]

Prince William has had enough with his uncle. The heir is reportedly on track to remove Prince Andrew‘s titles after his multiple controversies and ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

According to several sources to RadarOnline, Prince William is determined to remove his uncle from the Firm. “The public deserves to know their monarchy is free from scandal,” Prince William reportedly told his inner circle, per the outlet.

“William is far more hard-nosed than Charles when it comes to protecting the monarchy’s reputation,” one former courtier dished. “He’s fully aware of the harm Andrew has caused to the monarchy’s reputation and won’t shy away from actions his grandmother or father may have steered clear of. Andrew’s Dukedom could be up for discussion when William takes the throne.”

Related: Anne Just Showed Andrew What It Means to Be a Royal

Though taking away titles isn’t exactly easy. William would have to confide in Parliament to strip titles with legislation. RadarOnline reports that he intends to do so.

The update comes right after new revelations from his new biography, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York
by Andrew Lownie, describes instances of Andrew’s behavior with women and his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. One particular troubling one was the claim that more than 40 women were once brought to Andrew’s hotel during a stay in Bangkok in 2006. The Duke of York traveled to Thailand to represent the crown at the King of Thailand’s diamond jubilee. “Hotel staff were used to foreigners bringing in girls, but amazed that more than 10 a day were going to Andrew’s room,” Lownie wrote. “Often, as soon as one left, another would arrive,” a witness told the biographer.

A source recently told The Telegraph that William plans to exclude his unclue extensively from the Firm, which reportedly includes banning him from his coronation and removing his Order of the Garter.

Royal biographer Christopher Wilson told the publication, “I think to a large extent Charles has adhered to that as a safe policy—the moment you start tearing the family apart, where does it stop? With William it will be a different approach—he has hard-nosed ideas about how the Royal family needs to appear in the frenzied social media world we now inhabit, and I think will be ruthless.”

  • Kate Middleton and Prince William Want to “Start Afresh” in New Home, Sources Say

    [ad_1]

Prince William and Kate Middleton are looking forward to starting “a new chapter” when they move out of Adelaide Cottage and into Forest Lodge. Sources close to the couple say they want to leave the difficult memories of the past three years behind and “start afresh” when they move into the stunning eight-bedroom, six-bathroom home with a “ballroom” and tennis court, in Windsor Great Park later this year.

It is the family’s third move in as many years. In 2022, William, Kate and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, left London for Windsor, trading Kensington Palace for Adelaide Cottage. The four-bedroom house is too small for the family, and friends say the couple wants a change after a turbulent three years.

Shortly after moving into Adelaide Cottage, Queen Elizabeth died, and in 2024 Princess Kate and King Charles were both diagnosed with cancer.

Sources close to the family say William and Catherine, who is in remission, are mapping out a long-term plan to stay in Windsor, where their three children are enrolled in school. Although the palace has not confirmed where Prince George will attend secondary school, William’s alma mater Eton College is on their short list and an easy commute from Forest Lodge.

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will stay at nearby prep school Lambrook School until they are eleven.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, accompanied by their parents the Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, arrive for a settling in afternoon at Lambrook School, near Ascot on September 7, 2022 in Bracknell, England.

Sources have told Vanity Fair that there will be no other changes to the couple’s living arrangements and that they will keep their Kensington Palace apartment as their official London residence as well as Anmer Hall in Norfolk, which was gifted to them by the late Queen as a wedding present.

William and Kate are said to be “future planning” for when they are King and Queen and will divide their lives between Windsor, Norfolk and London.

  • Kate Middleton and Prince William Moving To Windsor Great Park

    [ad_1]

Three years after Kate Middleton and Prince William swapped their Kensington Palace residence for a main home on the Windsor Home Park estate, the family is moving again. Along with children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the Prince and Princess of Wales will soon leave their current abode of Adelaide Cottage for the nearby Forest Lodge, located in the Windsor Great Park.

The couple moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, motivated by a desire to escape the spotlight of Kensington Palace and to be closer to Queen Elizabeth’s Windsor Castle home.

“William and Kate have been talking to their close friends about leaving Kensington Palace, where they feel very overlooked,” a source told Vanity Fair nearly a year before the couple’s move. “It will remain their official London base, but they prefer being in the countryside and the commute to London would be very easy.”

While the four-bedroom cottage the couple settled on reportedly wasn’t their dream home, it appeared to be the best option at the time. “Finding a way to make Adelaide Cottage work seems to be the best and only option,” a source said at the time of their move. “There are issues with all the other houses, so Adelaide will be the favorite.”

But soon after the family started to unpack, things changed again. Queen Elizabeth died, just as Kate Middleton and Prince William landed in the dwelling. “It was not exactly the settling-in period they had hoped for,” a source said of that period in the Waleses’ lives.

Instead, that move preceded a few years of unexpected struggle. After the obligations of the Queen’s funeral, the young family was thrust into preparations for the coronation of King Charles III. Less than a year later, the king went public with his diagnosis of cancer, while unbeknownst to the world until a bombshell announcement in March 2024, Kate Middleton was also undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of the disease.

Middleton announced that she was officially in remission earlier this year, while the king’s treatments are reportedly ongoing, both factors that likely impacted the Walses’ latest decision to move. (Less of a factor, it seems, is a recent security breach near their current home, nor a similar incursion the year before.)

Their home-to-be, the 328-year-old Forest Lodge, is currently undergoing minor renovations, the Independent reports, noting that “the royal couple are understood to be paying for the move and renovations themselves, avoiding any extra cost to the taxpayer.” According to planning applications filed in June with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, changes to the eight-bedroom structure include “new doors and windows, stripping out internal walls, renovated ceilings and new floors.”

The residence, which the king owns as part of the Crown Estate, was last renovated in 2001, records show, after which it was available to rent for £15,000 per month. The family plans to move into their new home in the near future, a Kensington Palace spokesperson confirms, saying “The Wales family will move house later this year.”

Kate, 42, announced on Sept. 9 that she had completed treatment six months after revealing she had an undisclosed type of cancer. Her announcement came six weeks after Buckingham Palace announced that the king was being treated for cancer.

In a video announcing her progress, she said the path to full recovery would be long and she would take it day by day. She said she would undertake some limited engagements through the end of the year.

While she stepped away from most public duties during her treatment, Kate made two appearances earlier this year. First, during the king’s birthday parade in June, known as Trooping the Colour, and most recently during the men’s final at Wimbledon in July, where she received a standing ovation.

  • Royal Family Message Wishing Prince Harry Happy 40th Birthday Hints At Hope Of Thaw In Relations

Royal Family Message Wishing Prince Harry Happy 40th Birthday Hints At Hope Of Thaw In Relations

    [ad_1]

UK media have jumped on a Sunday morning message from the British Royal Family wishing Prince Harry a happy 40th birthday, as a sign of a slight thawing in the chill between London and Montecito.

Harry turns 40 today and the Royal Family’s official social media account posted a message, along with a picture of the smiling prince. This is a contrast to last year, when no reference to the prince’s birthday was made. Prior to that, the date had been marked every year.

The Times of London newspaper reports that no personal message from William and Kate, Prince and Princess of Wales, is expected, following a two-year silence between the two brothers. However, King Charles – who is on holiday on Scotland this week – may choose to mark the day with a special mention. Royal reporters’ pens remain poised in the UK for such an occurrence.

Harry did not meet his father on his recent trip to the UK for a family funeral, nor did he speak to his brother William who attended the same service for their uncle by marriage. Harry did see his father in London in February of this year, with a short meeting after a dash from Los Angeles following the King’s announcement that he was being treated for cancer.

The Times reports that some royal insiders feel that bridges need to be built for the sake of the British monarchy. It quotes one royal source commenting: “They have to reach an accommodation. This standoff can’t go on and on. People will get impatient with the fact that nobody’s trying to mend this.”

  • Prince Harry Is ‘Secretly’ in Contact With These Royals Behind William’s Back

Prince Harry Is ‘Secretly’ in Contact With These Royals Behind William’s Back

    [ad_1]

The Duke of Sussex still has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to staying connected with the royals. While he’s famously on the outs with his dad King Charles and older brother Prince William, new reports and recent events suggest that Harry’s been “secretly” keeping some interesting company within the royal family.

Related: Who Inherited Princess Diana’s Fortune? Some Heirs Didn’t Get What She Wanted

According to OK! Magazine, the estranged duke has reportedly maintained close ties with his late mother’s side of the family. This includes Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, as well as her brother, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer.

In late August 2024, Harry made a discreet trip from the US to attend a memorial service for his aunt Lady Jane’s husband, Lord Robert Fellowes, in Norfolk. During this visit, Harry is believed to have “secretly” stayed at Althorp House, which happens to be his mom’s childhood home (where she is now buried) and the current residence of his uncle, Earl Spencer.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Bond offered some insights into Harry’s relationships with his late mother’s side of the family. “Quietly, behind the scenes, it is obvious that the Spencer family have kept the communication channels open with Harry and that their affection for him is reciprocated,” she said.

Bond emphasized the importance of these connections, adding, “I’m sure Harry feels it’s important that he still has some kind of anchor here in the UK and, for now at least, it seems that it is with his aunts and uncle. And that has to be a positive thing.”

The memorial service also highlighted the ongoing tension between Harry and William. Both brothers were in attendance, but apparently, you’d think they were strangers. An eyewitness told The Sun, “William and Harry were both there but we never saw them speak to each other and they were keeping their distance.” Ouch.

However, it seems Harry’s also got another unexpected ally in the royal camp—his cousin, Princess Beatrice. She’s reportedly been playing peacemaker, trying to smooth things over between the feuding brothers. A former palace insider claimed to the New York Post that Beatrice has “spoken to the two brothers to try to improve the situation,” hoping to bridge the gap between them.

With both King Charles and Princess Kate still battling cancer and the royal family continuing to juggle their fair share of drama, it’s no surprise that Harry’s secret chats with certain family members are raising eyebrows. Could these behind-the-scenes connections be his lifeline to the family he left behind?

While we might not know exactly what’s said in these hush-hush convos, one thing’s for sure—Prince Harry‘s keeping some telling company these days. And who knows? These unexpected alliances might just be the key to unlocking his next chapter in the ongoing royal saga.

  • Kate Middleton Makes Surprise Appearance in Scotland

Kate Middleton Makes Surprise Appearance in Scotland

    [ad_1]

Did Kate Middleton just weigh in on the debate on when summer actually ends? The royal, who went on “summer break” after her show-stopping appearance at Wimbledon in July, stepped back into view Sunday. Along with husband Prince William, eldest son Prince George, and father-in-law King Charles III, Princess Kate attended a church service in Scotland today, her first day out with the family since her Trooping the Colour turn in June.

King Charles and Queen Camilla traditionally spend their summers in the Scottish Highlands, the Telegraph notes, as Balmoral Castle was one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite homes. This year, the Waleses made plans to join them, marking Kate Middleton’s longest trip away from the family’s Adelaide Cottage home since a planned surgery in January led to the diagnosis of an undisclosed cancer. She’s been in treatment for the disease since.

The Princess was spotted this morning as she headed to Crathie Kirk, the Balmoral-adjacent parish church known as the royal family’s place of worship when they’re in town. Clad in a camel coat and feathered hat, she was seated in a Land Rover passenger seat, with William at the wheel. Their son, George, sat in back. According to photos taken at the scene, Camilla and a kilt-clad Charles—who was also treated for cancer this year—arrived at church in a second vehicle, both stepping out of the back seat.

They were joined by the king’s brother, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, also attended church with the family today.

The church outing wasn’t a choreographed public event along the lines of Wimbledon or Trooping the Colour, free of posed photos or a receiving line. But that’s what might make Middleton’s presence the most notable. “I am making good progress,” she announced in June, “but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.”

“On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.” That she is doing well enough to expend some of her energy on a quiet, family event like a Sunday trip to church suggests that her progress is continuing, and the things are indeed looking up.

Taylor Swift and King Charles III Both Meet With Survivors of the Southport Stabbing

    [ad_1]

Twenty days after a stabbing attack killed three girls at a Taylor Swift–themed dance class, the pop star met with a few of the survivors before her Sunday night Eras Tour show at Wembley Stadium in London. Sami Foster, a Southport mother, posted photos of her two daughters with Swift to her TikTok account. Swift’s mother, Andrea Swift, was also photographed with the girls. Variety reports that other survivors have had the opportunity to meet with Swift.

In the days after the July 29 attack, Swift shared a statement on Instagram expressing her emotions about the event. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” she wrote. “I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.” According to The Sun, Swift privately reached out to the families of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Alice Aguiar, and Bebe King, the three girls who lost their lives during the attack. Nine other surviving victims were treated by emergency services, and the last one was released from the hospital 10 days later.

On Tuesday, King Charles III traveled to Merseyside to meet with victims and first responders of the attack. He viewed a public memorial to Stancombe, Aguiar, and King at Atkinson Art Centre before speaking to survivors of the attack and their loved ones in a private meeting at Southport Town Hall. He also signed a condolence book for the affected families near the building’s entrance. Afterward, he traveled to Southport Community Fire Station, where he spoke with local faith leaders and emergency services members who were on the scene that day.

One of the victims, 63-year-old John Hayes told BBC News about speaking to the king during the meeting. “It was lovely to meet him. I found him quite engaging, quite easy to talk to,” said Hayes, who sustained a wound to the leg while trying to fight off the attacker. “I think he only arrived in Balmoral yesterday, so for him to come all the way to Southport today to see people is very kind of him…and I’m sure everybody who met him got a lift from that.”

Following the July 29 attack, Prince William and Kate Middleton also sent a message of condolences to the victims. “We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack,” they continued. “Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most.”

  • Prince William and Princess Kate’s sentimental Kenyan log cabin is a far cry from Adelaide Cottage

Prince William and Princess Kate’s sentimental Kenyan log cabin is a far cry from Adelaide Cottage

    [ad_1]

The Prince and Princess of Wales are raising their children in the most idyllic setting – Adelaide Cottage on the leafy Windsor Home Park Estate.

However, Kate’s first taste of royal life came in 2010 following Prince William’s proposal. Kate née Middleton, now 42, was offered Princess Diana’s iconic blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring when Prince William got down on one knee and the couple retreated to a stunning mountainside lodge that couldn’t be further from their royal cottage home.

Vogue reported that the Prince spent time with his new fiancé, whom he met while studying at St Andrew’s University, at the Rutundu Log Cabin on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The property is set off the beaten track – a perfect spot for those yearning for serenity and privacy.

The cabin, which costs £130 per night, is described as “perfect for fishermen, walkers, families, adventurers, and those simply wanting to experience the tranquility of the mountain.”

The prince was not afraid of choosing a lodge without his usual royal comforts. The property is entirely self-catered and has no phone signal – you would have to walk for 25 minutes to have any chance of calling Buckingham Palace.

Having said that, the cabin, which is described as having an Alaskan-style interior, is perfectly cosy with an open log fire and verandah for soaking in the stunning natural views.

    A second Kenyan retreat

Though William is said to have flown Kate up the slopes of Mount Kenya to propose by the mountain’s glacial lakes, the Waleses enjoyed an equally romantic time at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

The 55,000-acre estate is a privately owned reserve home to 21 tents perfectly positioned for animal-watching.

Here guests can enjoy three-course meals and guided bush walks. Wake-up calls are far from being jolted from your slumber by a phone alarm. Guests at the Lewa reserve are treated to morning birdsong before breakfast and elephant spotting.

    The couple’s Adelaide Cottage lifestyle

Leafy Windsor couldn’t be further from their beautiful engagement spot. The family of five’s royal residence is a Grade II listed candy pink cottage which formerly featured a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace and a ceiling covered with gilded dolphins.

  • Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Love Story Became Public 20 Years Ago

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Love Story Became Public 20 Years Ago

    [ad_1]

On June 15, 2024, the world was watching as Catherine, Princess of Wales, triumphantly returned to the spotlight during the Trooping the Colour ceremony. After months of speculation regarding her health, and the announcement of her cancer diagnosis, a regal Catherine took to the balcony of Buckingham Palace with her husband, Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. As the crowd cheered, Catherine gave a grinning William a radiant smile, and a photo of the tender moment was published around the world.

The mature, glamorous couple that stood on the balcony was miles away from the casual, carefree college students who were first snapped on the Swiss ski slopes of Klosters 20 years ago, but the ease, love, and mutual respect in evidence has remained the same.

Prince William first met Kate Middleton in 2001, when they were both first-year students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. “I actually went bright red when I met you and scuttled off feeling very shy,” Catherine said to William in their first joint interview.

The two art history majors (Prince William would later switch to geography), both sporty and rather shy, soon formed a tight friendship. “We did become very close friends from quite early on,” Catherine recalled. They also had a lot of fun. “Kate’s got a really naughty sense of humor, which kind of helps me because I’ve got a really dry sense of humor, so it was good fun,” William said.

In March 2002, the press—and reportedly, Prince William—took notice of Catherine as she strutted down the catwalk as part of a charity fashion show. “The British press has been keeping an eye on classmate Kate Middleton, 21, ever since she modeled in a see-through dress for a charity fashion show at St. Andrews,” the Daily News noted in 2004.

For their second year, the platonic friends, who had both dated other people, decided to share a flat with their fellow classmates Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale. The next year, they moved to Belgrove House, a charming cottage outside of Edinburgh. Catherine was occasionally mentioned as one of Prince William’s gaggle of chums. In 2002, the Daily Mail quoted a friend as saying, “[Kate] is a very lovely girl, but very unassuming. She’s very bubbly, but also very discreet and loyal to William.”

For his part, the bashful prince attempted to protect all of his female friends from the glare of publicity. “There’s a lot of speculation about every single girl I’m with and it does quite irritate me,” he said in 2003. “The more so because it’s a complete pain for the girls. These poor girls, you know, who I’ve either just met and get photographed with, or they’re friends of mine, suddenly get thrown into the limelight and their parents get rung up and so on. It’s a little unfair on them really.”

  • Inside Kensington Palace: Explore the Royal Family’s Storied Home

Inside Kensington Palace: Explore the Royal Family’s Storied Home

    [ad_1]

Much of this intrigue was due to the fact that George I hated his son, the future George II, and their feud played out in the halls of Kensington Palace. When the old king died in 1727, the spoiled, emotional King George II and his brilliant, savvy wife, Queen Caroline, continued the family tradition and feuded with their eldest son, Frederick, Prince of Wales.

During the reign of George II, life at Kensington Palace was akin to the set of a posh soap opera. “Show me some good person about that court; find me, among those selfish courtiers, those dissolute gay people,” Sir Robert Walpole wrote, per Quinn, “someone I can love and regard.”

It was also packed with people, since Queen Caroline opened the Kensington Palace gardens, which she greatly improved, to the masses every Sunday. Anyone who dressed well enough could come to jockey for a position or patronage or simply gawk at the royals themselves.

“Court dinners could be boisterous and rowdy,” Worsley writes. “Once, so many people came ‘to see their majesties dine, that the rail surrounding the table broke.’ The people who had been leaning upon it all fell over and ‘made a diverting scramble for hats and wigs, at which their Majesties laugh’d heartily.’”

But despite Kensington Palace’s importance during this time, it was already beginning to rot. According to Worsley, George II’s mistress, Henrietta Howard, found that her Kensington Palace apartment was so damp that crops of mushrooms sprouted from the floor.

Kensington Palace: the Birthplace of Queens

The “mad” King George III hated the antics of his Hanoverian ancestors, and when he became king in 1760, he left the drama of Kensington Palace for Buckingham Palace, three miles away.

Now that the monarch was no longer in residence, Kensington Palace became a rundown warehouse for excess royals. “The magnificent state rooms were slowly allowed to decay until they became a dilapidated store for coal, broken furniture and old pictures,” Quinn writes. “Meanwhile, the rest of the palace began a long cyclical period during which various apartments were updated and modernized, then left to fall apart before being renovated once more.”

One of the most famous royal family members to call Kensington Palace home was the colorful, bombastic Caroline of Brunswick, the estranged wife of the future King George IV, who established a rival court to her husband in her apartments and was known to wander Kensington Gardens and talk to strangers. Another resident was Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, the eccentric ninth child of King George III, who filled his Kensington Palace apartment with his collection of rare books, medicines, and dozens of clocks.

“On the hour,” Quinn writes, “his apartment was filled with bells and gongs striking, musical tunes, national anthems, and martial airs.”
