After years of cooking and baking in my kitchen, I have come to appreciate the art of mise en place. It’s the French culinary practice of “putting in place,” or gathering your ingredients before working on your recipe, which makes it easier to grab what you need without having to worry about scrounging in the pantry or fridge in the middle of cooking. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve messed up a recipe simply because I needed to grab an ingredient and something overflowed in a pot or deflated in a pan. Needless to say, I prepare everything beforehand, and I love to make the process an aesthetically pleasing experience. And thankfully HomeGoods has just what I need to perfect the art of mise en place.

The discount retailer is selling a set of ceramic measuring cups that are perfect for anyone who loves adding a little color to their kitchen. No, they’re not normal measuring cups or simple bowls — they’re in the shape of produce! That’s right: You can snag measuring cups in the shape of strawberries, lemons, oranges, and peppers for just $9.99 a set. Each set comes with four cups: 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup.

Not only are these cups great for your baking projects and your mise en place, but they also work well as cute serving bowls for small snacks when you have guests over. Olives, nuts, or even a homemade snack mix would all fit perfectly in these cups. Unfortunately the cups are not available online, but Amazon offers a similar product on its website.

The measuring cups from HomeGoods are made of ceramic, which means they can withstand hot foods if needed. However, to keep the intricate detail without any chipping, it’s probably best to use these measuring cups with room-temperature or cold foods, and to wash them by hand.

  • My Secret for Making THE Perfect Aperol Spritz in Seconds (Everyone Loves Them!)

My Secret for Making THE Perfect Aperol Spritz in Seconds (Everyone Loves Them!)

    [ad_1]

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

If there’s one drink that’s my go-to for summer, it’s an Aperol spritz. I usually order one whenever I dine at an outdoor cafe or restaurant because it immediately transports me back to the piazzas of my favorite vacation destination, Italy, and I can almost ignore the fact that there’s an NYC garbage truck crushing awful-smelling waste just 10 feet away from my table. What I can’t ignore, however, is the fact that I’m paying double what I’d be charged in Italy — and I’m not even getting a free side of olives and potato chips.

This brings me to my next point: I could buy all the fixings to make spritzes at home — Aperol, Prosecco, club soda, and an orange for garnish — but that can get costly and even wasteful. I live alone, and unless I’m having friends over and fixing drinks for them, chances are good that the unused portions of Prosecco and club soda will sit in my fridge for days and lose their fizz. Thankfully, I found the ultimate solution when I was offered the chance to try the Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve.

What Is Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve?

Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve is a pre-made Aperol spritz that comes in single-serve glass bottles that are sold in packs of four for $20. Basically, the only work you have to do is pop open the top, pour the cocktail into a glass of ice, and add an optional orange slice. You’ve created a foolproof spritz in seconds, and you don’t have to worry about getting the measurements right or having large bottles cluttering up your countertop and your fridge.

Why I Love Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve

Opening a bottle of Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve makes me feel like a master mixologist. Each glass I pour is absolutely perfect, every single time: Crisp, refreshing, infused with orange, and slightly bitter (aren’t we all?). But what I really love is that Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve is ideal for those who live solo and in small spaces. Rather than having to find a spot for full-sized bottles of Prosecco, Aperol, and club soda, I can keep a stash of four mini cocktails chilling in my fridge, with plenty of room to spare. I also appreciate that I can enjoy a single glass and not have to deal with leftover opened bottles of sparkling ingredients going flat.

While Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve may seem best suited to summer, I’m keeping it stocked in my apartment all year round. It saves me both time and money, and the cocktails make any occasion feel more special, whether I’m having a holiday get-together with friends or relaxing on my rooftop, dreaming of a holiday in Italy.

They’re back! Costco brought back a customer-favorite fruit that shoppers have patiently been waiting for: the Pinkglow pineapples!

Originally from Costa Rica, these pineapples are quite literally pink when you slice into them. The fruit is genetically modified and contains lycopene, which gives this fruit that pinkish hue on the inside. Customers say that the pink pineapple fruit is slightly sweeter compared to the regular yellow pineapple, and reminds some of the taste of pink Starbursts. The fruit is slightly smaller compared to a normal yellow pineapple, but still comes in that typical oval pineapple shape. Costco is selling the whole fruit for $9.99 each, so if you don’t know how to cut into a pineapple, you might want to learn how before buying one of these fruits at the warehouse.

The Pinglow pineapple, also known as the “Jewel of the Jungle,” was a fruit 15 years in the making. Del Monte started working on this product in 2005 by playing around with a genetically modified pineapple to see if they could change the color to a slightly pink hue. The fruit is hand-picked and sent from Costa Rica.

The Pinglow pineapple has been on and off Costco shelves for years now, and after a hiatus where shoppers awaited the return, this popular fruit is available once again to purchase in Costco locations in America as well as Canada. But you better grab one now before it’s too late — who knows how long these pink fruits will last on shelves this time around!

Once you have your hands on a pink pineapple, we have a feeling you’ll love whipping up this spicy pineapple punch for a pink drink, or an upside-down cake for a pink pineapple dessert!

With summer officially in full swing, there’s no dessert I love having more than a giant bowl of ice cream. It’s my favorite way to finish a hot summer day, curled up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream topped with homemade peppermint hot fudge or salted caramel sauce. Sure, while my usual cereal bowls will work for this dessert, I love finding aesthetically pleasing dishes to elevate my eating experience, and I’m currently loving these new ice cream bowl sets at Aldi.

For $5.99 a set, you can grab four ice cream bowls or two milkshake glasses that look like they just came out of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. These bowls are 3 inches wide, the perfect size for a big scoop topped with sauce and your favorite candies. Both the bowls and the milkshake glasses are made with sturdy acrylic, with curved bottoms that give these dishes a timeless, classic look. They are top-rack dishwasher safe (hallelujah!) and are just the thing you need for summertime desserts.

Attention, lemon lovers! If you adore all things citrus decor during the warm summer months, then you’re going to want to make a trip to Five Below as soon as possible. This discount retailer is now selling a gallon-size ceramic drink dispenser that is in the shape of a lemon slice, and shoppers are very excited about it.

This lemon dispenser holds a gallon of your favorite cold beverages. It has a glass dispenser and spigot that makes it easy to dispense drinks into cups during your next summer get-together. The top of this dispenser has a twist seal to keep the drink protected, and the dispenser is BPA-free. You can find this Lemon Glass Dispenser in Five Below stores, or you can purchase it for $5.

The dispenser is only meant for cold beverages, but we don’t think it will be a problem when there are so many great batch cocktails and beverages you can fill up in this dispenser to serve to your family and friends. We particularly love making batches of this sparkling watermelon sangria, Peruvian pisco punch, and grilled pineapple mojitos. Or for something nonalcoholic, you can’t ever go wrong with a batch of green tea lemonade. Or how about something unique like this creamy strawberry lemonade? Speaking of strawberries, the drink dispenser also comes in a berry shape that is available for in-store pickup.

Now that you have the perfect drink dispensers for hosting this summer, you might as well get some festive fruit drinking tumblers to match. These strawberry-shaped tumblers come with lids and straws for just $3 each, or grab these fruit tumblers with handles and straw toppers for $5.

Shoppers are so excited about this new addition to shelves they’re commenting they “need” to grab it this summer, and plan on making a trip to the store as soon as possible to pick up all of the fun lemon-themed goodies currently at Five Below.

  • Reese Witherspoon’s Watermelon Margarita Is So Delicious, I’m Definitely Making It for the Fourth of July

Reese Witherspoon’s Watermelon Margarita Is So Delicious, I’m Definitely Making It for the Fourth of July

Reese Witherspoon is known for her acting chops, thriving online book club, and successful media company, but apparently the woman also knows her stuff when it comes to making a cocktail. Witherspoon shared on her Instagram a recipe for her favorite watermelon mint margarita, and it looks like the perfect refreshing cocktail we need this summer. So does it live up to the hype that this actress is giving this drink? We decided to give it a try and see if it’s worth pulling out the recipe for our summer barbecues this year.

How to Make Reese Witherspoon’s Watermelon Mint Margarita

Add cubed watermelon to a blender and blend until the fruit has been pureed.

In a cocktail shaker, add the pureed watermelon with tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, and mint. Toss in ice cubes, then seal and shake the drink for at least 15 or 20 seconds, or until the cocktail shaker is very cold to touch on the outside.

Fill a short drinking tumbler with ice. Strain the margarita into the glass, then garnish with a slice of watermelon and lime.

This drink was exactly what I hoped for from a watermelon margarita recipe. It was refreshing, tasty, light, and the kind of thing I would want to sip on when it’s the summertime. The taste of this margarita is exactly what I would envision a bright summer day to taste like: fresh watermelon and mint with freshly squeezed lime juice. The tequila is not too overpowering, making this drink very drinkable. Perfect for summer happy hours or barbecues.

However, while I did enjoy this margarita, I do have two small edits to the recipe that I think would very much enhance this dish. Because this is a margarita, I think adding in at least 1/2 ounce or 3/4 ounce of orange liqueur, like Triple Sec or Cointreau, would elevate this drink significantly. This would also mean decreasing the amount of agave nectar in each cocktail, given that the orange liqueur and the fresh fruit will help sweeten it enough already.

Otherwise, I would highly recommend shaking up this drink this summer, and can whole-heartedly agree that Witherspoon knew what she was doing when dreaming up this one.

If you recently bought a candle during your last Trader Joe’s run, you might want to check the label. Trader Joe’s issued a recall on June 27 of its Mango Tangerine candles because they could potentially be hazardous in your home.

According to the announcement from Trader Joe’s, the Mango Tangerine Scented Candles with the SKU# 56879 may have an unexpected burn pattern. This means that the candle’s flame could potentially spread from the wick to the wax, causing an unexpected larger flame and becoming a safety risk in your home. The grocer mentioned that if you recently bought one of these candles that you should not use it, and they urge you to discard it or return it to Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Trader Joe’s keeps shoppers informed about recalls by posting them directly on the Trader Joe’s website, letting shoppers know if there are any hazards to know about when it comes to the food and the products they buy. The grocer encourages shoppers with any questions to reach out to their customer relations office, or to send them an email with your questions.

Regardless of whether you have this candle or not, it’s always good to be aware of the fire hazards that can crop up in your kitchen. Keeping flammables away from the stove, not leaving candles unattended, and having a fire extinguisher on hand are all necessary fire safety tips to keep you and your family safe.

Candles may seem harmless, but if you leave one for too long on your countertop, it can potentially be dangerous and quickly become a hazard, no matter the type of candle you like to burn. If something did happen, whether it’s due to this particular Trader Joe’s candle or something else, be sure to seek medical attention if you experienced any injuries.

S’mores are classic in the summertime, and thankfully, an easy dessert that always seems to please a crowd. Toasty marshmallow and melted chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers. But what if you could kick it up a notch? What if you added a Reese’s peanut butter cup? Better yet, what if you grill that peanut butter cup over the fire?

Now before you tell me that this is impossible because the chocolate will, in fact, melt, just wait. This clever trick makes it easy to get a toasted marshmallow and chocolate peanut butter goodness without too much of a mess over the open flame.

This hack comes from @onesweeetmama on Instagram. Instead of roasting a marshmallow and placing it on a cold peanut butter cup, she spears the side of the peanut butter cup with two long steel pokers and dips half of it in marshmallow fluff. She then holds it over the fire for a few seconds, just long enough for the marshmallow fluff to heat and melt. She then smooshes the warmed marshmallow peanut butter cup in between two square graham crackers, now melted from the fire, making for the perfectly grilled s’mores treat.

S’mores (and peanut butter cup) lovers such as myself are absolutely loving this dangerously delicious trick and sharing their thoughts in the comments of this post. “That is amazing,” one foodie writes. “Doing this ASAP!” another writes. Even Hersheyland’s Instagram account commented on this post, saying “new method unlocked” with a heart-eye emoji. I certainly agree. It’s brilliant, and I will absolutely be testing out over the Fourth of July.

  • This “Amazing” Toaster Oven Is Even Better Than My Air Fryer (It’s My New Favorite Appliance!)

This “Amazing” Toaster Oven Is Even Better Than My Air Fryer (It’s My New Favorite Appliance!)

    [ad_1]

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

I’ve always been a toaster guy — when I moved in with my girlfriend, the first hill I chose to die on was keeping my old two-slot toaster, since I have two pieces of multigrain bread with eggs every morning for breakfast. However, I’ve never been a toaster oven guy, since I always thought my regular oven could handle whatever I needed to toast or roast. Over the years, my position on that softened (I also moved into an apartment with a comically small oven that takes forever to preheat), so I broke down and got an air fryer, which turned out to be a great addition to my kitchen. Recently, though, I had my mind changed again by a very special appliance from Panasonic: the FlashXpress Toaster Oven. It’s sleek, cool-looking, and seriously effective — plus, it has a few features that set it apart from the rest of the competition. (And, it’s on sale right now!)

What Is the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven?

This compact, easy-to-use toaster oven from Panasonic lets you toast, bake, brown, and reheat — no preheat required. It features two infrared oven heating elements, a spacious design, and six preset cooking functions. The baking rack is also connected to the oven door, which pulls the rack toward you as the door is opened so you don’t have to stick your hand inside and risk burning yourself. Plus, the auto shut-off helps prevent overcooking and burning. And, at just 13x12x10.25 inches, it’s a dream for small spaces and apartment kitchens.

Why I Love the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven

I was immediately sold on this toaster oven after whipping up some sourdough toast. It was so quick, easy, and effective, I knew this was going to be a great addition to my apartment kitchen. It also helps that it’s cool-looking in a minimalist way, it’s incredibly easy to clean, and has a surprisingly deep cooking area. My favorite part is that when you turn the light on, whatever you’re toasting is strikingly visible because of the crystal-clear glass, which can help you keep an eye on the level of browning. It also tucks neatly into a corner since it’s not superwide like most toaster ovens. I’m not the only one who’s a fan, either. “I bought mine three years ago,” one reviewer wrote. “It is so accurate, and so useful I almost never use the full oven I have next to it OR the microwave. It uses infrared elements so there is no preheat required. Just instant on. It is just big enough to take an 11-cup Pyrex rectangular baking dish, so it can cook a meal for 4. The digital timed bake means you can set and forget. It is tiny but seems roomy on the inside … It honestly is all you need unless you have a big family.”

  • This Space-Saving Rolling Cart Doubled the Storage in My Kitchen

This Space-Saving Rolling Cart Doubled the Storage in My Kitchen

    [ad_1]

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

Not only is the storage in my small kitchen unsatisfactory, but the kitchen also leads into the living room in an open-floor layout, which I personally don’t enjoy. To make matters worse, for a while, me and my roommates’ dishes, small appliances, and pantry items were spilling out of the cabinets and onto almost every available inch of counter space, making this general common area look messy and unorganized. We eventually added a couple sets of shelves, but that didn’t fully alleviate the problem. In my previous apartment, my roommate there had had a rolling island, and I figured this might be the only thing that could actually help us organize the kitchen for good. When browsing different carts online, I came across the HOMCOM rolling kitchen cart on Home Depot’s website.

I opted to try the cart because it looked like it had adequate storage, and I figured it could break up my common area into two separate spaces. Plus, its clean design and black cabinets would blend in with the rest of my furniture. Now that I’ve had the cart for a few months, I wish I’d gotten it as soon as I moved in. Best of all, it’s under $200 at regular retail price and currently on sale for just $136!

What is the HOMCOM Rolling Kitchen Cart?

The cart measures 41 inches wide, almost 36 inches tall, and extends back 18 inches, so although it’s not too big for tiny kitchens, it can still hold a lot. Its impressive storage capacity is also thanks to its two generous cabinets, which each have two tall shelves that are able to accommodate anything from dry goods to your blender or stand mixer. Above that, you get two drawers that measure 16.5 inches wide and 7.5 inches tall, which is enough height so you don’t have to worry about whether bar tools, coffee accessories, or spice jars will fit. The black cabinets contrast nicely against a light-colored rubberwood top, which serves as a great butcher block or general meal prep area. As for the wheels, they roll smoothly and therefore won’t scratch your floors should you choose to move the cart. To keep it stationary, however, two of the wheels lock with easily flippable brakes.

One piece of advice I have is to avoid putting too much weight on the upper interior shelves, as they’re a bit thin. You could probably get away with putting items that weigh up to 20 lbs. on each one. As a result, I’d put heavier items, like small appliances and bottles of oil, on the lower shelves. Regarding the cart’s assembly, my roommate was able to put it together in about two hours, while I helped minimally by holding certain parts together as she screwed the nails in. It’s definitely a two-person job, but the instructions were detailed and helpful.

Why I Love the HOMCOM Rolling Kitchen Cart

Before acquiring the rolling cart, every cabinet and drawer in our kitchen was stuffed with plates, dish towels, snacks, and other miscellaneous items, to the point where it was hard to find space for groceries and new buys. The counters were also lined with tea and coffee gear, as well as bottles of olive oil and spice jars, making meal prep a bit difficult. Once our cart was assembled, we were able to clear up the counters by placing the oil bottles and other ingredients on one of the lower shelves and the spices and tea bags in the drawers. We also decluttered the kitchen sink area by storing cutting boards on a shelf, freed up kitchen drawer space by placing oven mitts and dish rags inside the cart, and also relieved the storage closet of some clutter by placing cat food and bowls on another shelf. Suffice to say, the cart made a huge difference in my kitchen’s organization.

I also love this product’s light wood top, which is a great little spot for meal prep. Before, there was only enough counter space for one person to cook at a time, but now there’s enough surface area for two of us to make dinner at once. And, it’s so easy to clean. A couple of passes with surface cleaner and a Swedish dishcloth, and it looks as good as new.

Finally, I couldn’t be happier with the placement of the cart. Before, the kitchen and living room were one long, conjoined space. But we put it in between the two areas, so now it feels like we have a cozy little living room that’s separate from the kitchen. What’s more, the cart doesn’t budge once the wheels are locked.

If you’ve been thinking about getting your own rolling kitchen cart, I highly recommend this one. Not only does it look great, but it also holds a lot of stuff and is every bit as practical as I had hoped. Plus, for that low price, it’s a no-brainer.

Buy: HOMCOM Rolling Kitchen Cart, $135.95 (normally $169.94)

People Are Just Discovering How to Use a Cheese Grater the Right Way, and I Can’t Believe I Didn’t Know About It Sooner

I know that grating a block of cheese is preferred compared with buying a bag of shredded cheese. Pre-shredded cheese is bagged with an additive that helps prevent the cheese from clumping and sticking together, making it easy to sprinkle onto your dishes. However, those additives can slightly alter the texture of what you’re eating, which is why many cooks prefer to freshly grate their cheese.

But having to grate a block of cheese is, to be honest, kind of the worst. It’s tiring on the arms and can easily make a mess. So when I recently came upon a cheese grating hack on Instagram, I was instantly intrigued. Could this solve all of my cheese grating woes?

Here’s how it works: Instead of holding the handle of the vertical cheese grater at the top and covering the bottom with a cutting board or bowl to catch the grated cheese, turn it over on the side. Hold the handle of the grater near you and grate the cheese away from you. The inside of the grater will still catch the cheese without it getting anywhere, then you can carefully transfer it to a bowl and empty it.

I’m particularly a fan of this way of grating cheese because of how much easier it is on your arm. It also makes for a mess-free transfer, and you don’t have to hold a bowl steady or anything as you grate the cheese vertically.

While many people have their own opinions on how you should grate cheese, I agree with the sentiment that this way of grating cheese is far better than others. “I have a better grip and better pressure on the block/piece of cheese,” one foodie comments. “I started doing this, much easier!” another writes. I couldn’t agree more!

There are three different plate shapes to choose from: bow tie (which seems to be the most popular), ravioli, and macaroni. Each of these plates are around 5.5 inches in width. Keep in mind if you decide to grab one (or all three), these dishes are hand-wash only and are not advised to go in the microwave, oven, or dishwasher. So treat them with the care they deserve.

Shoppers are ecstatic about these new plates. “OMG stop, I’m running there tomorrow,” writes one shopper. “The pasta plate is serving,” jokes another. These plates are available in store only, but you can check the Michaels website to see if they are available for store pickup near you.

Along with these pasta plates, Michaels is also selling adorable shallow pasta bowls for those bigger dishes, like caramelized tomato paste pasta or asparagus pasta with lemon and Parmesan. They’re sold at $12.99 a piece, made of ceramic, white on the inside and yellow on the outside. But it isn’t the simplicity of the design that shoppers are loving; it’s the cute graphic inside the bowl that really makes it adorable. Each bowl features a fork swirling pieces of spaghetti wrapped around the utensil, which drags off to the bowl’s edge. The store is also selling cute tomato-shaped plates that are perfect for summer and available to ship.

Needless to say, this Italian Kitchen decor might inspire you to have an Italian-themed summer party, with all of your favorite pasta dishes (or a fried ravioli appetizer!) served in pasta bowls. How on theme!
