    Kathy Hilton addressed her recent lunch date with Kyle Richards and Morgan Wade – amid fan speculation that the two stars are more than friends. Both Morgan and Kyle have denied the rumors, though some are convinced it’s the untold chapter of Kyle’s separation from her husband, Mauricio Umansky.

    Fans’ heads are still spinning over Kyle’s recent statement on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills  that she’d be willing to date a woman. Morgan, a country singer from Virginia, appeared in several episodes and got a tattoo of Kyle’s initial.

    Speaking with Extra, Kathy addressed her lunch date with Kyle and Morgan.

    “So, so nice, and then Morgan came by and met [my daughter] Nikki and James, her husband,” said Kathy, at the 2024 afterparty for the Golden Globes Billboard.

    “And we adore her, we love her,” said Kathy, who then addressed her own stint on reality TV.

    “It’s been really good except when something is edited in a way that it comes off in a different way,” she explained. “You don’t hear the entire [conversation], but you know, you sign up for these things, so, yeah, you have to expect that.”

    According to Kathy, she was with her grandkids during the holidays – this included Paris’ baby daughter London.

    “Oh, the best … Two of my new grandbabies, and I’m expecting another one in two months,” said the socialite. “Baron and his wife were pregnant with another little boy, so we’re going to have four boys and four girls.”

    The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.

    Surprise, Paris Hilton has another baby! Hilton and husband Carter Reum revealed last week that they’d welcomed daughter London Marilyn Hilton Reum via surrogate, promoting son Phoenix to big brother status at the age of 10 months old.

    In a new interview with Romper, Hilton revealed why she’d kept her family planning under wraps – even to her own relatives. They introduced baby London to the extended Hilton clan as a Thanksgiving surprise.

    “My life has been so public, so out there. I didn’t want my son coming into this world with any negative energy,” Hilton told Romper of keeping Phoenix’s imminent arrival quiet. “I’m really happy I did it that way, just for Carter and I to have that journey together without the outside world chirping in.”

    The hotel heiress and lifestyle figure calls her family “the cutesy crew,” and said that she dreamed of having a daughter.

    “I always imagined my mini-me, putting her in little dresses and all the mommy-and-me things we could do together,” she said. “Just having my little best friend.”

    Her mother, Kathy Hilton, and sister Nicky Hilton both knew that London was on the way, but not when. The public was kept in the dark on both pregnancies, as Hilton didn’t slow her public schedule. She feared childbirth due to her past, she said, prompting the help of a surrogate for both children.

    “I just have so much PTSD from what I went through as a teenager,” Hilton said. She has written in the past of sexual abuse and medical trauma that she experienced at a boarding school in Utah as a teen. “If I’m in a doctor’s office, I get a shot, anything, I will literally have a panic attack and I can’t breathe. I just knew that would not be healthy for me or the baby, growing inside of someone who has such high anxiety.”

    She says she’ll probably be “really strict,” which may surprise some due to her past as a club fixture alongside the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.

    “It’s a scary world out there, especially today. I’m just terrified when they become teenagers,” she said. She said she’d be happy to never set foot in a club again, and would keep the kids far away from the entertainment industry if she has any say at all.

    “I’m hoping that they want to be scientists,” she said of her ambitions for London and Phoenix.

    Hilton calls this stage of life her “mom era.”

    “This is my best era yet,” she said. The 42-year-old sees the about-face from her past antics, and she loves it.

    “I used to look at my friends who’d be like, ‘Oh, I have to go home to my kids and my husband,’ like, ‘You’re so lame. This is so fun. I can’t imagine being like that,’” she said. “Now I’m one of those boring people, and I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t imagine it any other way.”

    Speaking about being on a journey of motherhood together with her sister Paris Hilton, Nicky shared, “I mean, usually around this time of the year we’re trying to figure out what we should do for New Year’s Eve, should we go to Vegas? But this year we’re talking about doing a trip with all the children.”

    Following the advertiser exodus from X, formerly Twitter, over concerns about antisemitic content on the site, X has lost another high-profile brand campaign, as Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Media is also pulling out of its partnership with the platform. The campaign had been a high-profile win for X, as it would have seen Hilton promoting key X features like live video, live e-commerce, X Spaces (live audio), and more over a two-year period.

    Hilton had even contributed a sparkly pink custom icon for X’s Premium subscribers.

    Deal terms were confidential but included a revenue-sharing component — though not on Premium upgrades to gain access to the new icon, we understand.

    CNN was the first to report on the deal’s implosion, citing concerns about antisemitism and pro-Nazi content on the site as factors in 11:11 Media’s decision.

    “11:11 Media made the decision to immediately pull the campaign from the platform,” Bruce Gersh, 11:11 Media’s president and chief operating officer, told the outlet.

    Hilton’s media company is the latest in a long line of brands to have paused or stopped their spending on X as a result of brand safety concerns, joining other big names like Apple, Disney, Comcast, IBM, Warner Bros., Paramount, Lionsgate, and others. Brands are concerned about the reputational damage that could occur if their ads appeared next to hate speech and antisemitic content. Despite X CEO Linda Yaccarino’s assurances that X has brand safety controls in place, a report from Media Matters showed how X was running ads next to hateful content. X, however, claimed Media Matters manipulated its service, causing the ads to appear, rather than having found the ads in the wild. It then promptly sued for defamation.

    But even X’s own complaint doesn’t dispute that the ads were real and running next to hate speech, it just didn’t like that Media Matters found a scenario where ads could skirt X’s brand safety protections in such a way.

    Given these concerns, as well as Musk’s own endorsement of antisemitic conspiracy theories on the platform, many advertisers are reconsidering their X spend, potentially causing a significant impact on X revenues. Ahead of this advertiser pull-out, X ad’s business was on track for a 54.4% year-over-year decline in worldwide ad spending, from 2022 to 2023. Musk had also publicly stated X’s U.S. ad revenues were down by 60%, following pressure from the Anti-Defamation League, which accused the owner of antisemitism. (Musk, in turn, threatened to sue the ADL, as well.)

    Today in wildly unrelatable celebrity news, Paris Hilton just revealed that she had 45 wedding dresses at the ready on her big day. Yes, you read that correctly — forty-freakin’-five. The reality TV star casually dropped the anecdote in a British Vogue video published on Oct. 26. While reliving her most memorable outfits through the years, she touches on the many bridal looks she wore to tie the knot with husband Carter Reum in November 2021. “I actually wore six dresses the night of my wedding, and it was because I literally had 45 of them,” she says.

    Why so many options, you ask? “My stylist was getting calls from designers all around the world, and everyone was so excited to be a part of this wedding that they all made these incredible custom dresses that were so beautiful,” Hilton says. “I tried to wear as many of them as possible.” The ones that made the cut were certainly worthy of the glamorous occasion. Hilton walked down the aisle in an Oscar de la Renta gown featuring long sleeves, a high neck, and elegant pressed-flower embroidery that trailed down a voluminous tulle skirt. “I wanted something that was really just princess . . . I was going for a Grace Kelly vibe,” she says of the design.

    After the ceremony, the wardrobe changes commenced. In addition to another bespoke Oscar de la Renta piece — a bustier-style cocktail dress made of taffeta — Hilton also danced the night away in a caped Pamella Roland number dripping in sequins and pearls, plus an off-the-shoulder Galia Lahav princess gown made of a glittery, gauzy fabric. On the second day of her wedding, Paris orchestrated a carnival at Santa Monica Pier, where she wore a neon-pink tulle dress by Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia. The final look of the jam-packed weekend was a silver star-adorned Oscar de la Renta gown with a sheer skirt.

    Now that we know Hilton had 39 other dresses on deck for her wedding, we have several pressing questions. Was there an entire room (or several rooms) at the venue set aside for storing them that night? How many did she realistically hope to wear? And perhaps most importantly: Where is she storing the dresses now, and does she want to stop paying the storage fees? Because we’d happily take a few of ’em off her hands.

    The same week Paris Hilton would end up being criticized for mucking about carefreely in the waters near fire-ravaged Lahaina, she also happened to post a yacht montage of herself doing various water sports, standing “thoughtfully” against the railing of the boat as her resort wear billows in the breeze, seeing some majestic dolphins swim next to the yacht (had they been orcas, they might have had the good sense to attack) and generally posing with another one of her accessories, Carter Reum. All of this would be totally “normal”/par for the course were it not for the fact that, of all the songs she could have selected, Hilton opted to soundtrack the montage to Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” (because everyone has clearly forgotten about Bananrama supremacy).  

    The incongruity of it all was rounded out by the caption, “An incredible escape with my love after countless weeks of flights, performances, shoots and mommy duties. #Greece #SummerOfSliving.” Apart from the flimsy excuse of Taylor Swift’s 2019 song, “Cruel Summer,” suddenly going viral this year, Hilton hardly has a giraffe leg to stand on with regard to using this particular ditty. Not without having some major malicious intent behind it. But oh wait, we forget how inherently tone deaf and out of touch the rich can actually be. Something that feels more believable in this particular scenario than Hilton actually being sardonic enough to really know what she was doing by wielding this song to the backdrop of her luxurious yachting excursion in Greece. 

    One can pretty much confirm that Hilton put zero consideration into the cutting irony of “Cruel Summer” set against her affluent jaunt when taking into account that she jetted (switching from yacht to plane for her arrival) into Maui right after the devastating fires that wiped out Lahaina. Hilton specifically settled into a resort at Wailea, just thirty miles from the disaster-struck town in question. And at a time when Hawaiians have specifically been asking people not to come. To not engage in the already divisive-among-Hawaiians tradition of tourism. Reiterating that tourism is the last thing Maui needs right now and that, no, it isn’t going to help in any way with recovery just because tourists think they’re “funneling money into the economy.” In fact, it’s been announced that not only is tourism not helpful, it’s actually a detriment. Per Āina Momona, the “lasting island-wide impact on Maui’s resources” means “the less visitors on the island taking up critical resources that have become extremely limited the better.”

    Alas, people in Hilton’s echelon are only too accustomed to taking up critical resources. Not only that, but actually being primary causes of grave climate change factors that eradicate critical resources. After all, it seems well-timed for The Washington Post to release an article about how “the richest ten percent of U.S. households are responsible for forty percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.” The study, published by PLOS Climate, “looked at how a household’s income generated emissions [and] underlines the stark divide between those who benefit most from fossil fuels and those who are most burdened by its effects.” Surely (whether directly or “indirectly”), Hilton must have some investments in the fossil fuel industry game. And even if she doesn’t, the carbon footprint from her yachting and jetsetting excursions ought to make up for it. 

    Even before landing in Hawaii, the fact that Hilton was blithely tooling around Greece amidst the wildfires that have been raging there since July 17th (making for a genuinely cruel summer) is also telling of a general lack of concern or awareness on her part of anything beyond her bubble—unless, of course, she causes a backlash with her behavior that prompts her to “correct” it by opening her wallet and making the problem “go away.” As she did with the reactions to her Hawaiian journey. Comments like “read the room” were meant to be smoothed over with “a source” assuring that, “Maui has always held a special place in her heart. She has been gathering supplies and taking them to shelters and those who need. She already did and continues to do so.” So as long as she’s “all paid up” in that respect, she can wash her hands of any accusations of tone deafness, right? But no, Hilton remains as tone deaf as Ryanair continuing to offer flights into fire-raging Greece (including the island of Rhodes) for the sake of its own pleasure: more profit. As for what Hilton stood to “profit” from her “Cruel Summer” in both Greece and Hawaii, each affected by profound environmental disasters, it seemed to be nothing more than to prove to her followers that she’s “sliving.” While the rest of the population is barely living. 

    This is why Hilton’s behavior amounts to another forecast of how the rich versus the “normals” will react to global warming (nay, global boiling) as it keeps worsening. Indeed, one outpost noted of Hilton’s willful ignorance to the gravity of the situation in Hawaii (and Greece, for that matter), “The pictures of the happy family holiday were in stark contrast to the scenes of devastation just over half an hour’s drive away, with locals forced to flee into the sea to escape the burning flames.” Meanwhile, Hilton flees into the sea to frolic with an inflatable duck. 

    What’s more, so long as Hilton can tell herself she paid even more to be there by donating money to relief efforts, it’s not going to be much sweat off her artificially-tanned back. Incidentally, days before Hilton’s appearance on the island, Honolulu-born Jason Momoa issued a warning that perhaps Hilton needed to hear when he said, “Do not convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island that is suffering this deeply.” But even if she had heard it, it’s not as though it would have made an impact on the woman who unironically soundtracks Greek yachting videos to the tune of “Cruel Summer.” Because, as Paris herself has declared, “Stars are blind.” To any reality outside of their own perfectly manicured one.

    “31,” she wrote next to the photo carousel from the evening. Gomez’s post led with a picture that put her outfit on display. For the occasion, the “Look at Her Now” singer wore a red dress with floral accents. Channeling old Hollywood, Gomez, wore her hair pinned in an updo, with a bang in the front.

    Adding to her look, the Rare Beauty founder wore a pair of strappy black sandals with a red flower on the back. The post also gave Gomez’s followers a look at the guest list. Gomez posed with her best friend Nicola Peltz Beckham in one photo. In another, she stands in between Paris Hilton and music producer, Benny Blanco.

    The photo set also included pictures of Gomez dancing behind the DJ booth and blowing out large sparkler candles on her red and white birthday cake.

    Over on her Instagram Story, Gomez shared a sweet moment with Christina Aguilera as they hug and pose for the camera. The fun didn’t stop with her party, the “Hands to Myself” singer also shared pictures from a special screening of the “Barbie” movie.

    Gomez also took a moment to mark her birthday with a personal accomplishment. The former “Wizards of Waverly Place” star thanked her followers for contributing to her mental health initiative through the Rare Impact Fund.

    On Monday, the media personality, 42, took to Instagram to commemorate the “beautiful and iconic” life of her pet chihuahua, Harajuku B***h.

    “Today, my heart breaks as I say goodbye to my precious chihuahua, Harajuku B***h. For an incredible 23 years, she filled my life with so much love, loyalty, and unforgettable moments,” Hilton captioned a series of sweet photos of her furry friend. “She lived a long, beautiful and iconic life, surrounded by love until her final peaceful slumber.

    “Words cannot express the immense pain I’m feeling right now,” the DJ wrote, noting that “she was more than just a pet; she was family to me, a loyal friend who was always by my side through every twist and turn life brought my way.”

    While chatting with her beau, the couple recalled how they met on Thanksgiving, their first kiss, plus Hilton shares how Reum, who’s from a town of 800 people, makes her feel and her favourite moment from their wedding.

    “I remember walking in and just seeing you sitting there at the table. You had this big smile and your eyeballs were popping out of your head… in a good way,” Hilton told her now-hubby of the first time they met in the Hamptons at Dana Hammond’s house, whom is Reum’s sister Halle’s mother-in-law.

    Later that evening, Paris and her mother Kathy joined the Hammond family for dinner where she sat next to Reum, who saved her the seat beside him.

    Reum recalled: “About half way during the meal, the housekeeper walked over and said, ‘Ms. Hilton, Ms. Hilton, is something wrong with the food? You’re not eating,’ and I’ll never forget this, [Paris] said, ‘I don’t like to eat in front of cute boys,’ and I’m like, ‘so you’re saying there’s a chance!’”

    Fifteen minutes later, Hilton asked Carter “to get some fresh air.”

    “I actually thought we were going to get fresh air,” Reum said. “I turned the corner, you immediately kissed me. My life has never been the same since then.”

    “You loved it,” Hilton teased.

    “Absolutely I loved it. Are you kidding me. Paris Hilton kissed me at Thanksgiving dinner,” Reum replied. “I was like a kid in a candy store.”

    Hilton noted that although she “wasn’t looking to date anyone,” earlier that day when she met Reum while stopping by Dana’s home, she “felt this connection” with him and was “so excited to go back to dinner that night.”

    “The whole time I was like, ‘I can’t wait to make-out with him’,” Paris shared. “I just had such a crush on you right away.”

    The actress, singer and DJ went on to gush over the way her hubby makes her feel.

    “I feel like I had such huge walls around my heart and you pulled those walls down,” she said, referring to the immense amount of trauma she went through. “[You make] me feel like my best version of myself and have made me grow in so many ways.”

    “I’ve never had partnership, friendship or a relationship like this where it’s just like we are one and we’re a team and we’re always gonna be together,” she continued. “I’m no longer afraid because I know that you got me and you’ll always watch after me and you’re the best dad to Phoenix.”

    The fashion icon then said she “can’t wait for our baby London and our cutesy crew,” seemingly hinting at baby no. 2. The couple, who wed in 2021, announced the arrival of their first child, son Phoenix in January.

    When asked what her favorite moment from their wedding was, Hilton told Reum, “doing my vows,” which he called “amazing.”

    “Because I was literally writing them up until the point when I was walking [down] the aisle,” Hilton said, “then kind of just throwing the vows to the floor and just speaking from my heart and free-styling it. I thought that was awesome.”

    Hilton also loved “the moment walking down the aisle looking at [Reum]” who was “standing there crying.”

    “It was so sweet,” she said, “and just seeing everyone in the room so happy, being in the wedding gown and feeling like a princess was just such a magical moment.”

    Sitting across from Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show,” Paris Hilton, wearing a sparkling neon green turtleneck dress and a high ponytail, looked at a picture of a glum cartoon ape and said it “reminds me of me.” The audience laughed. It did not look like her at all.

    Hilton and Fallon were chatting about their NFTs – non-fungible tokens, typically digital art bought with cryptocurrency – from the Bored Ape Yacht Club. The camera zoomed in on framed printouts of the ape cartoons. “We’re both apes,” Fallon said. Hilton, with her signature vocal fry, replied, “Love it.”

    “The Tonight Show” episode from January 2022 is a YouTube time capsule showing the temporary alliance between celebrity marketing and the crypto industry. Bored Ape Yacht Club was not the biggest crypto phenomenon, but it was one of the top beneficiaries of celebrity hype. That celebrity hype, in turn, helped draw new consumers to crypto — an industry rife with manipulation and fraud, and one that US regulators are now giving more scrutiny in the wake of the collapse of crypto exchange FTX. But for a time, when crypto’s prices seemed to have no limit, the money appeared too good for some to ask questions — questions like: Why are some of those apes wearing prison clothes?

    “That was a very significant moment, because the audience for that show is very different from the typical crypto person,” explained Molly White, a software engineer and a fellow at the Harvard Library Innovation Lab. The Bored Apes — a computer-generated collection of 10,000 cartoons — were being presented as a status symbol, membership in an exclusive club. Hilton, Fallon, and other celebrities had joined — and viewers could join, too, if they bought an NFT.

    A class action lawsuit, filed in December, alleges Hilton, Fallon, and other celebrities conspired in a “vast scheme” to artificially inflate the price of Bored Ape NFTs and enrich themselves, the crypto payments company they used to get the apes, MoonPay, and the company that made the Bored Apes, Yuga Labs.

    Hilton and Fallon did not respond to requests for comment.

    In April 2021, Yuga Labs released the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection of cartoon apes with a computer-generated combination of features and accessories, such as gold fur, a sailor hat, laser eyes, 3-D glasses, a cigarette, as well as “hip hop” clothes, a “pimp coat,” a prison jumpsuit, a pith helmet, and a “sushi chef” headband. The founders were anonymous, known only by their online screen names.

    That fall, Hollywood agent Guy Oseary reached out to Yuga Labs, eventually investing in the company and joining its board. Soon celebrities started posting their Bored Apes on social media — including Oseary’s client Madonna, along with Steph Curry, Lil Baby, DJ Khaled, Snoop Dogg, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more. Bored Apes started selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Justin Bieber bought an ape for $1.3 million. By March 2022, Yuga got a $450 million venture capital investment, and was valued at $4 billion.

    The class action lawsuit claims, “this purported interest in” Bored Apes “by high-profile taste makers was entirely manufactured by Oseary at the behest of” Yuga Labs. “In order to make the promotion of, and subsequent interest in, the BAYC NFTs appear to be organic (as opposed to being solely the result of a paid promotion), the Company needed a way to discreetly pay their celebrity cohorts.” The suit alleges they did this through MoonPay.

    When Jimmy Fallon introduced his audience to crypto, he also presented a frictionless way to buy in: MoonPay, a payments company that allows customers to buy crypto through most major payment systems like with a credit card. In November 2021, Fallon said on “The Tonight Show” that he’d bought his first NFT through MoonPay. “MoonPay? MoonPay! I did my homework — Moonpay, which is like PayPal but for crypto,” Fallon said. The following January, when Hilton showed her ape on the show, she said, “You said you got it on MoonPay, so I went and I copied you.”

    A few months later, in April 2022, MoonPay announced more than 60 celebrities and influencers had invested in the firm. MoonPay spokesman Justin Hamilton told CNN that Hilton became an investor, but not until after she spoke with Fallon on “The Tonight Show.” The FTC generally requires an endorser to disclose when they have a financial interest in promoting a company.

    The celebrity hype and unbelievable prices generated enormous media interest. “Rolling Stone” minted NFTs of the magazine with Bored Apes on the cover. Guy Oseary was on the cover of “Variety” under the headline “NFT King.”

    Independent journalists, under the names of Coffeezilla and Dirty Bubble Media, noticed blockchain ledger records suggesting not everything was as it appeared. Cryptocurrency is traded on the blockchain, a permanent and public ledger of every transaction. That means it can reveal financial relationships, if you figure out the right questions to ask.

    Hours before Justin Bieber bought an ape for the equivalent of $1.3 million on January 29, 2022, Bieber received Ethereum worth about $2.5 million in his crypto wallet, the blockchain shows. A couple weeks before Post Malone released a music video in November 2021 in which he bought a Bored Ape through MoonPay, MoonPay transferred cryptocurrency then worth about $760,000 into the artist’s wallet, and sent two more payments, worth about $640,000, a couple weeks after. MoonPay admits it paid for the placement in Post Malone’s video but says other celebrities paid full price for their service in US dollars.

    Many celebrities who got apes thanked MoonPay on social media. Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted, “Joined @BoredApeYC ready for the reveal? Thanks @moonpay concierge.” The rapper Gunna posted on Instagram, “I Bought A @boredapeyachtclub NFT worth 300K No Cap ! His Name is BUTTA Thanks @moonpay !” Lil Baby mentioned MoonPay in his song “Top Priority.”

    The blockchain shows MoonPay paying high prices for the apes, and then transferring them to purported celebrity wallets for free. MoonPay explains this as a service that helps wealthy people buy NFTs without setting up their own crypto wallet.

    The company says the “white-glove” service was created because MoonPay’s CEO, Ivan Soto-Wright, had a lot of celebrity friends, and many of them asked how they could get an NFT. Jimmy Fallon, Lil Baby — they were Soto-Wright’s friends, Hamilton said.

    CNN spoke to several former MoonPay employees who said they were skeptical the celebrities paid for their NFTs, because there was no evidence on the blockchain.

    The company’s ape purchases have been significant. Since 2021, one of its wallets, “MoonPayHQ,” has spent at least $25 million on NFTs — 60% or about $15 million of that was spent on Bored Apes. The company told CNN they had 14 apes in a cold storage wallet, which offers more safety. It said that five of those NFTs were “purchased by concierge clients that are in the process of being transferred.” The last ape was purchased in April 2022, 10 months ago, according to blockchain records.

    One influencer has said he was approached about an ape. In a Twitter Spaces audio chat last year, celebrity jeweler Ben Baller said, “Real talk: not once, not twice, three times, I’ve been offered a Bored Ape through MoonPay. … The fact that some of these super top-tier all-star NBA players have them? And I was like, ‘Yo this is all cap [lies.]’ They didn’t buy this sh*t.” Baller did not respond to CNN’s request for comment. MoonPay’s spokesman said this didn’t happen.

    Oseary, the Hollywood agent and MoonPay/Yuga investor, texted CNN in response to a question: “NO ONE is paid to join the club and Yuga do NOT and have NOT given away any apes.” He said he paid full price for his Bored Ape, and so did Madonna.

    Yuga Labs declined an on-the-record interview with CNN. In a statement, the company said, “In our view, these claims are opportunistic and parasitic. We strongly believe that they are without merit, and look forward to proving as much.” Hamilton, MoonPay’s spokesman, said of the lawsuit, “We look forward to it being dismissed.”

    “The fine art market is a scam – that’s OK, at least there’s art going on,” said Max Gail, who’s been a blockchain developer since 2010, and founded Omakasea and Eth Gobblers.com. (Gail hosted the Twitter Space in which Baller discussed Bored Apes.) The NFT market, he said, “is like a parody of the fine art market. They took the same strategies that had been employed in the fine art market, but then distorted it with some strange crypto economics.”

    Anonymous buyers and sellers dealing in items whose values are difficult to calculate has made the fine art market susceptible to money laundering, a Senate investigation found in 2020. In 2022, an average of more than half of NFT trading volume on the Ethereum blockchain was “wash” trading, according to an analysis at Dune Analytics. (Most NFTs are on Ethereum.) Essentially, wash trades are a transaction in which the buyer and seller are the same person, or they’re working together. Wash trading has been illegal in traditional finance since the Great Depression, because it can distort the market by making people believe there is a high volume of interest in the investment. The ability to open many anonymous cryptocurrency wallets makes wash trading NFTs easier. A Chainalysis report found one “prolific NFT wash trader” made 830 sales to self-financed wallets in 2021.

    Though NFTs have been celebrated as the future of digital art, and a way for artists to earn royalties, many NFT collections operate more like securities — a financial instrument, like stocks or bonds, that hold some monetary value. “People will say that the technology itself has provided this whole new way of creating digital art,” Harvard’s Molly White said. “It’s not that unique. The unique part of it is the speculative bubble.”

    The NFT marketplace does not always make sense even to those who benefit from it. “Bored Apes have gone from $100 to $100,000 in a year. Nothing appreciates that fast,” a successful NFT artist said. The artist’s own works had gone from a couple hundred dollars to tens of thousands. One of the artist’s major collectors “treats me as a commodity and my art is a commodity and he’s always pumping and dumping it. … It’s being treated as a financial vehicle.”

    But there is pressure not to raise questions about the system. The NFT artist did not want to go on the record, saying it would be career suicide. “The big collectors watch for artists that FUD. And as soon as an artist FUDs, they get cancelled,” the artist said. FUD is “fear, uncertainty, and doubt,” or criticism of crypto.

    Beyond how the Bored Ape NFTs are traded, what they depict is at issue in yet another Yuga Labs legal battle.

    In the fall of 2021, accusations began swirling on social media that the Bored Ape Yacht Club contained visual references to racist memes from the troll site, 4chan. The artist Ryder Ripps — who’s worked with stars like Kanye West and Tame Impala — started tweeting about the claims of racist imagery. Ripps claims Guy Oseary, the Hollywood agent on Yuga’s board, called to pressure him to stop talking about the claims. (Oseary told CNN, “I can’t speak on active litigation.”)

    Ripps doubled down and made a website cataloging the claims. Then, in an act he says was meant to protest the alleged racism and comment on the idea you can’t copy an NFT, Ripps made copycat NFTs he sold as RR/BAYC. Yuga sued Ripps for trademark infringement, and argues that his maligning of the Yuga apes is nothing more than a profiteering tactic. Ripps says Yuga is trying to silence its critics, and has doubled down on his claims as part of his defense in the trademark suit.

    Yuga Labs called the accusations “the incoherent ramblings of a small group of for-profit conspiracy theorists.” However, the Yuga lawsuit against Ripps could affect the class action lawsuit against Yuga. Ripps’s lawyers have issued subpoenas to Paris Hilton and Jimmy Fallon.

    To assert its trademark rights, Yuga must show that consumers associate its logos with its products, and it did so in a legal filing, in part, by pointing to celebrity owners “including TV host Jimmy Fallon…”

    Ripps’s lawyer, Louis Tompros, asserts Yuga compensated celebrities for promoting its NFTs, and they did not disclose it. “And by doing that, in our view, they have gotten this public notoriety for their brand improperly,” Tompros told CNN. “And so having gotten it improperly, they now can’t go and assert that they have these rights.”

    This week Yuga co-founder Wylie Aronow published a 24-page letter explaining that he was stepping back from the company and addressing widespread rumors that the company and its products were connected to the alt-right.

    “I will soon call out this utter bullsh*t under oath,” he wrote.

    So what are the racist references alleged by Ripps and others? To start, there’s what’s right on the surface: some of the NFTs are pictures of apes in “hip hop” clothes, a “pimp coat,” a prison uniform, a bone necklace, gold and diamond grills. Record executive Dame Dash, a crypto enthusiast, pointed out on a podcast last year that monkeys and apes are old racist tropes.

    “Think if you were a racist, like ‘Guess what I’m gonna do? I’mma get Black people to love monkeys so much that they gonna buy them, wear them on their neck… go to something called ApeFest and they’re gonna like it!’ Wouldn’t that sound funny?” Dash said on the podcast. “That’s what’s happening.”

    Dash told CNN he hadn’t intended to target Yuga directly. But he’d started to wonder if he was being trolled, given the ubiquity of apes in crypto. “Racism is different these days — you can’t be so overt about it. You have to kind of troll,” Dash said.

    This week Yuga agreed to settle a lawsuit with a developer who worked with Ripps, with the developer agreeing to pay them $25,000 and saying he would reject all disparaging statements against Yuga Labs.

    Ryan Hickman, a software engineer who also worked with Ripps on RR/BAYC, is also being sued separately by Yuga. Hickman, who is Black, thought the Bored Apes looked like stereotypical portrayals of Black people as stupid or lazy. He said he thought this would be obvious to most people the second they saw an image of a Bored Ape. But, he said, “then somebody says, ‘Well, it’s worth $100,000.’ They say, ‘Okay well, tell me more.’”

    In a statement, Yuga said, “Our company and founders strongly condemn the spread of hate, in any form, against any group.” Hollywood agent Oseary said he’d never been on the troll site 4chan.

    The crypto community has adopted a lot of terms — rekt, frens, wagmi — that were popularized on 4chan, and it’s not always clear if the person using them understands where they came from. “I doubt that they were a massive alt-right troll campaign,” Harvard’s Molly White said. “I do think it’s likely that the creators of the project basically included some nods to 4chan.”

    “It’s not one thing that makes it racist. It’s everything together as a package,” programmer and 8chan founder Fredrick Brennan said, looking at comparisons between Pepe the Frog memes and Bored Apes. Brennan took an interest in the claims that Yuga referenced 4chan memes, because he’d seen them so often when he was running 8chan, a similar troll site. He quit 8chan in 2016, and in 2019 pushed for it to be taken down because it had become a hub for extremist violence. He began to suspect the Yuga founders were like the people he used to know.

    Take one of the apes’ characteristics, which Yuga calls a “sushi chef headband.” Brennan reads and speaks Japanese, and saw the headband actually said “kamikaze,” which has been used as a slur against Japanese people. A similar headband appeared on a Pepe meme. “That one was the most shocking,” he told CNN.

    In a legal filing connected to the Ripps case, Yuga said the apes reflected a combination of many traits, “not any person’s purported racism.”

    “I was hoping, in my eternal optimism,” Brennan said, “that people would become a lot more skeptical of tech bros. … And that liberal — so-called — celebrities in Hollywood would view these people with suspicion. Apparently not.”

    Thom Browne swears he doesn’t plan on going viral when putting together his fashion shows; he doesn’t even think about how they might play on the internet.

    Instead, he crafts his shows—which, really, are much more like pieces of theater—to tell a story to those attending in real life. “For me, it’s more interesting that you get this more intimate experience in regard to what the collection is saying, or what I want to say through the collection,” Browne says.

    Still, when you cast Golden Globe-winning actress Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as a modern-day Cinderella and send her down the runway in a pink tulle Cadillac to close the show, as Browne did for his spring 2023 collection, you’re bound to attract more than a few eyeballs online. And on TikTok, there are a lot of eyeballs to be had: The hashtag #fashionmonth alone had a staggering 228 million views in September 2022.

    Fashion has always found its way onto social media, whether through archive-obsessed Tumblr accounts or the in-depth analyses found on high-fashion Twitter—and, of course, Instagram, with its reputation for glossy images, has been the reigning platform of choice for many years. But, armed with a video-forward ethos, TikTok is poised to take over.

    “Instagram almost feels like it’s very controlled, like a traditional media outlet,” says Alyssa Mosley, a stylist and content creator who has found an audience as a TikTok creator (@alyssamosley_). “[TikTok] is like the people’s platform.”

    Intentional or otherwise, the spring 2023 season was packed with eye-catching moments perfect for the kind of bite-size videos that find success on TikTok. Courrèges created a giant sandpit for its runway, while Balenciaga’s catwalk took the form of a dystopian mudslide. Gucci’s twin parade, with a cast of 68 pairs of identical twins revealed in a surprise finale twist, was a huge hit on the app, too. “I definitely think the larger brands with the budgets have been trying a little bit harder to achieve those viral moments,” Mosley says. “A lot of brands are really having fun with their production and set design to draw attention.”

    But perhaps no show illustrates the power of going viral quite like Coperni’s. In August 2022, the #coperni hashtag was doing admirably, clocking some 1.9 million views. Then, at the end of September, the brand closed its spring 2023 fashion show with a bang. Bella Hadid stepped onto a platform and was promptly sprayed down with a white material. With a few minor tweaks—a tug at the shoulders, a cut up the front to reveal some leg—Hadid took her finale walk in a dress literally created on her body less than a minute before.

    The moment went viral just about everywhere, but on social media, the proof is in the numbers: On TikTok, #coperni jumped to 7.3 million views in September, and then an astonishing 123 million views in October.     Another quick route to viral success? Tapping into celebrity, of course. Famous people have been a mainstay in fashion for decades, but brands looking to make extra headlines know an A-list name goes a long way. Dolce & Gabbana partnered with Kim Kardashian for its spring 2023 collection, while Balmain and Versace featured famous faces on their runways (Cher and Paris Hilton, respectively). For his production, Browne tapped actress Gwendoline Christie to play “Charming” alongside Rodriguez’s “Cindy.”

    And, because TikTok has minted so many celebrities, designers are now inviting popular creators to sit front row at their shows, whether it’s Addison Rae at Givenchy or Wisdom Kaye at Ralph Lauren. “A lot of brands are really utilizing that celebrity, especially youth—so TikTok stars who wouldn’t traditionally be in the fashion space are being invited to a lot of different shows because they do draw attention,” Mosley says.

    True fashion fanatics need not fret, though: The focus is still on the clothes. Loewe’s punchy, trompe l’oeil pixelated pieces cut through the noise, as did Maximilian Davis’s red-tinged debut at Ferragamo. Going viral on TikTok is just another way that designers can spread their message to an entirely new—and, apparently, eager—audience.

    “I love putting provocative ideas in front of people. I think it is important to open people’s minds, open them up to really thinking differently about clothing or, culturally, what’s going on,” Browne says of his own viral moment. “I like that there’s a reaction. I do. I’m not doing my job if there’s just a mediocre reaction.”

    Hilton, a prolific businessperson and hotel heiress, confirmed to People magazine that she and Reum, both 41, welcomed an heir of their own via surrogate.

    “It’s always been my dream to be a mother and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other,” Hilton told People. “We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy.”

    Hilton shared the news on Instagram, where she posted a photo of her baby boy’s hand clutching her own well-manicured fingernail. The child’s name is not yet known publicly.

    “You are already loved beyond words,” Paris wrote alongside a blue heart emoji.

    The mogul married Reum, an author, entrepreneur and venture capitalist, in November 2021 after dating for more than a year. The couple had a lavish, three-day wedding ceremony. Much of the ceremonies were featured on Hilton’s reality TV show Paris in Love.

    Reum reportedly has one other child, who is grade-school age, from a previous relationship.

    Last year Hilton said she wants “two or three” kids of her own in the future.

    Paris Hilton is a new mom, announcing that she and husband Carter Reum welcomed a baby boy at the beginning of the year.

    The heiress confirmed the happy news that their baby arrived via surrogate earlier this month to People, telling the outlet, “It’s always been my dream to be a mother and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other. We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy.” She also shared that there’s been a new addition to their family on social media, posting a photo of her hand holding her newborn son’s hand on Instagram and writing in the caption, “You are already loved beyond words,” with a blue heart emoji.

    Since marrying Reum in November 2021, Hilton has been very vocal about her desire to become a mother. In December of last year, she also told the magazine that she and the venture capitalist had begun the process of in-vitro fertilization during the height of the pandemic in the hopes of getting pregnant. “We started going and doing it like a few months in because the world was shut down,” she said. “We knew we wanted to start a family, and I was like, ‘This is perfect timing. Usually, I’m on a plane 250 days out of the year, and let’s just get all of the eggs stocked and ready,’ and we have tons of them just waiting.”

    And in an April 2022 episode of The Bellas Podcast, Hilton revealed that married life with Reum had been nothing short of wedded bliss so far and she couldn’t wait to grow their family together. The Simple Life star said of her new husband, “I love being married. I just feel like I finally found my perfect match and I just feel so safe. I finally have my home and I just can’t wait to start a family and have kids.” She added that having children has always been a part of the couple’s plan as they’d “been talking about kids since the beginning—since the first couple, like, months of dating,” and they “would love to have twins.” Ultimately, she noted, they’re hoping to have “three or four” children together.

    Back in November, Hilton also dropped a hint that her baby was on his way via her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “I’m getting tons of messages of people asking me when I’m having a baby. The truth is my husband and I always wanted to enjoy our first year of marriage together as a couple and we we’re [sic] always planning on starting our family in 2023.” She continued, “IVF is always a journey for everyone but we’re so fortunate that we have lots of healthy embryos ready and waiting to be part of our Cutesy Crew! As everyone knows I have an extremely busy work and travel scheduled but nothing gets me more excited then [sic] becoming a mom in 2023! Thank you for all your kind messages!”

    On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the former “Simple Life” star took to Instagram to share a sweet post with her 21.7 million followers.

    The post features a photo of the tiny hand of a newborn wrapped around Hilton’s manicured thumb.

    “You are already loved beyond words,” Hilton wrote in the caption announcing the surprise arrival of her first child.

    According to People, Hilton and husband Carter Reum welcomed a son, born via surrogate.

    “It’s always been my dream to be a mother and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other,” Hilton told the magazine.

    “We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy,” she added.

    LOS ANGELES — Celine brought a new line of fashion into the Hollywood spotlight in front of a star-studded audience while infusing rock music into designer Hedi Slimane’s “Age of Indieness” show Thursday night.

    The fashion brand’s show at iconic Los Angeles landmark The Wiltern theatre introduced glitzy black and gold gowns, faux fur coats, slim leather pants along with gold-button jackets and coats. Each model walked down the runway to the beat of The White Stripes’ rock-infused “Hello Operator” while displaying the latest collection from the fashion house.

    The co-ed runway graced the eyes of several celebrities and entertainers including Cindy Crawford, Doja Cat, Brie Larson, Justin Hoffman, Paris Hilton, Kid Cudi, Paris Jackson, Ava Phillippe, Wiz Khalifa and Courteney Cox. Crawford watched as her daughter, Kaia Gerber, strutted in a glittery gold dress.

    Slimane incorporated men and womenswear. Some of the pieces worn were red blazers with gold trims, high-heeled black leather boots, black suits and gold feathers hanging from jackets.

    Once the show finished, Slimane briefly marched onstage holding Gerber’s hand, waved and took a bow at audience members – mostly dressed in black – who stood and applauded his fashion efforts.

    The fall/winter fashion show ultimately turned into a big party in the lobby area as attendees were served food and drinks before being graced by live performances lasting a couple hours in the theater.

    A night centered around rock aesthetics was wrapped up with performances by Iggy Pop, The Strokes, Interpol and The Kills.
