Exclusive Interview: Amy Shark Is Here To Indulge Your Sunday Sadness

    [ad_1]

The rumors are true, we haven’t stopped listening to Amy Shark’s new album Sunday Sadness since our first listen-through. From songs like ‘Can I Shower At Yours,’ to ‘I’m Sorry,’ we are simply hooked. We were lucky enough to chat with Amy Shark about the in’s and out’s of this record, as well as her time coaching The Voice, her past work, and more! Let’s jump in!

    Listen to Sunday Sadness here!

Hi Amy! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us! To start us off, if someone was diving into your music for the first time, how would you describe your sound?
I think I would describe it as honest, gritty, indie pop.

‘My Only Friend’ has just come out! What can you tell us about working with Tom DeLonge and how that partnership came about?
The whole blink collaboration was never a part of the plan. They just happen to be my favourite band but I never in a million years did I think that I would be able to do a song with even one of them let alone all of them. Tom was the hardest to lockdown just because he’s so busy with other commitments, movies, aliens, etc but after I sent him the song he made it very easy. He loved the verse I wrote and he tracked his vocals in San Diego and sent them over to me. I worked on it with my producer and the rest is history. It’s one of the coolest songs I have in my entire catalog.

Upon listening to ‘My Only Friend’ we thought back to a track you released last month ‘Two Friends,’ to us, it seemed like ‘My Only Friend’ was ‘Two Friends’ softer counterpart, is there an intentional string between the two?
I feel like I have unintentionally written an album about two friends haha. Every song can kinda hold hands with the next. It’s kinda cool.

As we are writing these questions Sunday Sadness comes out in twenty days, how are you feeling? What are the emotions leading up to your first album release since 2021?
I’m quietly confident, but I’m still a little nervous. I really want people to love it as much as I do. But then again, it is my third album so by this time I really know what my fans love. They’re going to love this album and hopefully, it’s good enough to grab more Amy Shark fans along the way.

When talking about Sunday Sadness you said that this record was specifically written on Sundays, what do you think it is about Sundays that allows you to create so freely? And when did you realize that a creative pattern was forming?
There was one specific Sunday where I was finishing a song, it was the last song on the album ‘Our Time Together.’ It’s a pretty emotional song full of memories. I think that’s when I realized that Sundays have always been the emotional day that I can’t escape. Even when I try and work on a Sunday by finishing songs the songs end up emotional.

We were lucky enough to be able to listen to Sunday Sadness a bit early to prep for this interview, and it’s incredible. What really struck us is the range of emotions that the listener is taken through with these tracks, it really feels like getting an inside look at your diary. With that range in mind, are there two lyrics on the record that you think perfectly represent two opposite ends of the emotional spectrum?
Yeah, totally! I’m so glad you picked that up. I love the very opening line to the record in ‘Slide Down The Wall’,“ doesn’t matter what I do. I always get emotional with you”. But then you hear the line “tell everyone you’re dead to me” in the song ‘Gone’ and I love how this album feels like a series of mini-movies! So many ups and downs but a lot of love throughout.

For us, eleven tracks is such a sweet spot for an album, but we know that the number of songs that could have been on the record was probably a much higher number, was there a song that you wrote during the process of making Sunday Sadness, but that didn’t make the album that you hope still sees the light of day in some capacity?
Yes, this always happens to me. It’s very sad. But it’s like sport. Only the strongest get picked for the team, unfortunately. But it doesn’t mean I don’t care about those on the bench.

We know that crafting an album takes a village, and there are so many thank you’s that could be said to the people involved, but something that is often hard for people to do is to pat themselves on the back. What is something that you accomplished during the process of crafting Sunday Sadness that you are proud of yourself for?
I explored every single avenue for every single song on this record. I wasn’t lazy. I worked really hard to make sure every song could stand strong on its own. Even if I had to heavily compromise or lose a guitar riff that I was attached to. I did everything I could to make this album as strong as I believe it is. I’m proud of that.

We have to take a minute to ask about Australian Idol, was there a piece of advice that you were able to give a constant on that show that you wish someone would have given you when you were starting out?
Music isn’t a sport, no one can tap you on the shoulder and tell you to retire because you’re not strong enough or fast enough. You can keep making art all day every day for the rest of your life! There’s no age to making music. So just because it’s a ‘no’ today. Just get up and get after it again tomorrow.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what is the rest of 2024 shaping up to look like for you once the record is out?
I plan on promoting this album to every part of the world!

  • Designing Our Dream LE SSERAFIM Comeback While We Wait For CRAZY

Designing Our Dream LE SSERAFIM Comeback While We Wait For CRAZY

    [ad_1]

Honeybees, are you ready for LE SSERAFIM Season to take full effect? CHAEWON, SAKURA, YUNJIN, KAZUHA, and EUNCHAE are officially making their comeback with the CRAZY mini-album on August 30th, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us! The title track of their last comeback, ‘EASY,’ was their first-ever song to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., so you already know they’re ready to take on the world this time around.

While we wait for CRAZY to come out, we’ve been reflecting on LE SSERAFIM’s past comebacks and the beautiful albums and visuals they’ve given us over the years. And naturally, we’re daydreaming about what the perfect LSF comeback would be like. Press play on your favorite song they’ve released so far, and join us as we do a little creative directing!

    The Aesthetic

We got our first taste of the CRAZY era with the logo motion video, which shows LE SSERAFIM’s logo being struck by lightning. Is this our first taste of the aesthetic for CRAZY? The main things that jumped out to us in the clip are the halftone, comic-like effect that’s over their logo, the lightning and glitches, the hearts, and the bright colors. It’s kind of giving superhero, so that will be the vibe we go for with our comeback concept.

    The Sound

The CRAZY logo motion video ends with what might be our first teaser of this era’s sound, specifically with a little “da, da, da, da” vocal clip. There’s so much potential there! LE SSERAFIM has played with quite a few sounds throughout their career, from the pop-punk jam ‘No Celestial’ to the Afrobeats-influenced ‘Smart,’ so there’s a lot of room to grow with this comeback. But we need a really powerful energy for a superhero theme, so we’d probably go in a pop-rock direction!

    The Styling

We think a superhero concept would need bold styling, maybe something like LE SSERAFIM did for the Balmy Flex version of EASY! Think of bright colors, unique hairstyles, and flashy accessories that help them channel their superpowers. They’d also have a set of more casual chic outfits for when they need to blend into a crowd, probably in black and white, to draw less attention.

    The Album Inclusions

Let’s be real: the best part of having one of your favorite groups make their comeback is finally getting your hands on a physical album and seeing what cool inclusions you have inside! The hero theme we imagine would have so much potential for a physical CRAZY album, starting with a comic-themed photobook. Inclusion-wise, we’re thinking of your typical gorgeous LE SSERAFIM photo cards with some unique extras: first, a special ID trading card with one of the members that highlights her superpower. Next, a lenticular photocard that goes back and forth between showing one member in normal clothes and showing off her superhero outfit!

    The Title Track Music Video

Finally, it’s time to imagine the music video for our pop-rock ‘CRAZY’ title track! We think it’d be a pretty epic introduction to the superhero storyline, following LE SSERAFIM as they work together on a mission. The opening frames would show a comic book. Then, as the camera zoomed into one of the pages, it’d take us into the book and LSF’s crazy world! They’d battle enemies on rooftops, fly over busy streets, and make it look ‘EASY’ while doing it.

What do you think of our concept for the CRAZY mini-album? Do you think we’re on the right track for what LE SSERAFIM’s new era will bring? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • ‘Guess’ The Charli xcx And Billie Eilish Song Equivalents Of These Iconic Pop Culture Bras

‘Guess’ The Charli xcx And Billie Eilish Song Equivalents Of These Iconic Pop Culture Bras

    [ad_1]

Three million, not just the rolling hits of growing viewers that have phoned up Charli xcx at the familiar hunting ground of the ‘360’ music video, laced with It girls and sprawling dark grey walls. But also, the number of flinging bras sprung into a girl power mountain (false, it was 10,000 per Charli’s tweet, but c’mon, it’s a lot). One that takes silkily murmured Billie Eilish—of which, this is her first feature with another artist ever— to whiz through on the upgrade of her vehicle collection: a bulldozer! Toss in a couple of cheeky, pick-up lyrics, “Charli likes boys, but she knows I’d hit it,” another callback to ‘360’ through a visual description of the single cover and a whole lot of fun. And the girls are serving up the ‘Guess’ remix produced by The Dare in a tiny bow.

What’s also cool about their flirtatious team-up is that the undergarments seen in the music video are all being donated to I Support The Girls. It started up in neither Bra City nor Tokoyo, a fondness by Charli that Billie picked up. In this case, we wouldn’t mind that luxury souvenir either. But a basement in Maryland, ISTG. The charity looks to support women and girls experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and other ill-fitting scenarios. Now, they’re not just in the States but also have affiliates around the globe, making a significant impact!

    A Bra Feature

We’ve decided to have an iconic battle-off between Charli and Billie vs. bras in pop culture. Playing true to the selected tune for the techno-spliced neon lights club mix, we’re getting you to ‘Guess’ the song from either artist that goes with the bra. We’ll give you some facts about the unmentionables. Then, by using the toggle, you can either throw a spicy garment in your online cart to get it right or have to clean it out for getting it wrong.

    Madonna’s Cone Bra

A spectacle of pink and ring-tight curls, Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour was one of her most expensive—the stage featuring Catholic stained glass murals and dozens of flaming candles came to $2 million—and deliciously stylish. A lush pink conical bra was underneath a pinstripe blazer. It was crafted by Jean Paul Gaultier, who was designated as the head costume designer. Until now, corsets were known primarily in the coquette world as soft against luscious curves. This garment was gender-forming, tucked over the top of trousers. It has since shaped what other performers wear, dabbling into the sexiness we see in various cuts and fabrics today.

Of course, it’s ‘LUNCH,’ the main course of Billie’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT era. With a wicked synth and a surrounding baseline, Billie appears in her usual oversized sports jerseys and chunky jewelry, providing that masculine touch while juxtaposed with feminine seduction, dangling cherries, and impish lyrics. The combination of the two sparks the androgynous fashion in Madonna’s conical bra.

    Mean Girl’s Bra

The mention of Mean Girls’ ring leader, Regina George, serves up the biggest clue. Everyone remembers joining the rank of spokesperson upon flipping through our own wardrobe and cutting out an old tank top come Halloween 2004. Then, the resurgence after Reneé Rapp not only crossed out Broadway iteration but also film musicals. Anyway, in a hilariously savage skit done by Cady Heron, Regina turns the snip in her favor by strutting out of the changing rooms in seeable purple nips.

Duh, our numbered track title goes to Charli’s ‘360.’ Everyone and their cool mom know Regina would’ve joined the other Internet It girls in the music video!

    Little Mermaid’s Seashells

You never wanted something to be more ‘Part Of Your World’ than Ariel’s purple shell bra. Interestingly, in the Hans Christian Andersen iteration, she was nude or clothed in sea foam. Since the audience is children, Disney decided to go with something a bit more modest.

Ariel’s quest to find her voice (literally through breaking the shell around Ursula’s neck and figuratively by discovering freedom in becoming a human) is quite similar to Billie’s identity questioning sprawlings on ‘What Was I Made For?’ Made for Margot Robbie’s Barbie, Billie relates to the character upon seeing shrunk replicas of her various getups throughout the years.

How many bras did you rack up in your online cart? We’ll excuse you if you restart at various times to have it at its brim. Donating your winning collection to I Support The Girls would be even more cute! You can also stream BRAT and rave about the remix on our various social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Hence, others are not only entertained by these upcoming receivers of the Grammy’s Best Pop Duo/Group Performance bracket but also gain familiarity with the charity.

  • Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

    [ad_1]

If you’re anything like us, then the name Andrew McMahon is a staple when you think of the music that has soundtracked your life. From Something Corporate to Jack’s Mannequin to Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Andrew has quite the discography in his back pocket. We were lucky enough to get to chat with Andrew all about Something Corporate reuniting, releasing ‘Death Grip,’ and now ‘Happy,’ as well as going on tour!

    Stream ‘Happy’ now!

Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today! To start us off, how would you sum up who you are as an artist to anyone who is going to dive into your music for the first time?
First and foremost, I’m a lyric-focused songwriter. I’m trying to tell stories with my songs and to tackle the conflicts and questions that arise in my daily life. I get a lot of joy from experimenting with sounds in a studio setting. While there is a pretty clear, pop-minded approach to my writing, you’ll hopefully identify a diverse palate of sounds and arrangements throughout my recordings.

You’ve been a part of so many projects over the course of your career (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). How has your creative process changed as you move between projects?
I think my process has become a lot more collaborative. The more time you spend making things, the easier it is to articulate what you want and the more fun it is to translate everyone’s ideas into the work.  I’m far less obsessed with the outcome these days and so much more interested in digging deep with collaborators and going on an adventure in the studio and on the stage.

Something Corporate is officially back! What made you want to reach out to your old bandmates and get the ball rolling working together again?
I had the band out for a surprise set during my birthday show a couple of years back, and the vibe was so good we decided to get back together properly for the When We Were Young fest. There was such a beautiful energy at those shows and, for the five of us, there was palpable joy being back in practice and hanging out in dressing rooms and laughing together. The shows were such a pure connection between us as band members and the audiences we were playing for that we decided to book more and keep the party rolling.

Working with Something Corporate this time around comes about a bit differently, as you’re working as Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. What has coming from the mindset of the art you’ve been making brought to working with the band again?
Working with other projects has made me a better collaborator and it’s given me a real appreciation of the unique chemistry of Something Corporate. There is something magical about the bond we share, having grown up learning to play music together as kids. I am able to fully appreciate and celebrate the rarity of that connection now and it’s made this reunion a really peaceful and joyful moment in my life and I think the other guys’ as well.

‘Death Grip’ is the first single back! Were there other songs that were completed that you chose between to get to this track? What was it about this track that made you guys want it to be your comeback?
‘Death Grip‘ happened really organically. I wrote it in Nashville a month or two before we left for tour. I loved the song and wanted it out into the world. The decision wasn’t made through the lens of this is your comeback track. It was made out of love for the song and the band being excited to be back in the studio together. The song itself is about letting go, receiving life as it comes, and giving back what the universe gives to you. It gave us this song, and we gave it back.

Upon crafting ‘Death Grip’ could you automatically tell what you wanted the live performance of that song to look like?
Not necessarily. I think the biggest shift for me post-Something Corporate has been letting the music evolve in the studio first and then crafting the show separately. ‘Death Grip‘ was very much created through that process. Hence, the Wilderness/SoCo Collab. The production of the next single that’s coming out was approached a little more like a traditional Something Corporate song, and on that one, we will flip the collaboration order to SoCo/Wilderness to reflect that.

You guys just kicked off the Out Of Office Tour. What can fans expect from these shows? Are we going to be getting unreleased music played?
The show itself has a beautiful production incorporating video that weaves in moments from the early days and I think does a beautiful job of connecting fans to the band’s history while creating beautiful new memories to hang on to once you leave. The nearly two-hour set manages to cover the majority of our catalog with some deep cuts from night to night. We also have two new songs that will be out by the time we get to the second leg of the tour, and we will be throwing one of those in per night going forward. We’re really proud of both of them.

The Out Of Office Tour isn’t a typical tour since you’ve said that you’re all having to work around your current jobs. What’s been the hardest and most rewarding parts of touring now compared to back when you only had to focus on SoCo?
Honestly, I’ve been hoping to reimagine the way I live, work, and tour for some time now. The way we structured these dates has afforded me and the band the opportunity to play for lots of fans and have incredible weekends together while still making it home to take care of our families and the careers we’ve built since moving on from Something Corporate in ‘05. The other guys would be able to speak more to the challenges, I’m sure, as some of them are definitely juggling work fields outside of music.

Let’s talk about your partnership with Big Loud Rock! How did that come about? And how has that unfolded for you thus far?
The truth is I’m pretty cagey when it comes to record deals these days. After Tilt came out, I was pretty hell-bent on stepping back from music for a bit and seeing where the wind blew. The day I wrote ‘Death Grip’ I was so excited by it. I started sending music around, and the Big Loud guys were so genuinely stoked about the song and the potential of releasing more that they made me a really fair deal based on mutual trust, and the rest is history. It’s early still but working with them has been a breath of fresh air. So many labels these days simply obsess over data and TikTok and make all their decisions based on fear. These guys love music and building artful campaigns around their releases. It has really been a joy to work with them.

The Holiday From Real cruise kicks off this fall! Obviously, we and all the other fans are so excited. But what aspects are you most excited about?
Playing shows with all of my favorite musicians and friends on a single weekend is going to be incredible. I know people look at these projects as separate entities, and, in many ways, they are, but for me, it’s my life and my music. Bringing that all together in one place, especially a vacation setting, just feels right to me.

Now that the single is out and the tour is underway, what does the rest of 2024 look like for you? What can fans expect?
We’ll be dropping our next single, ‘Happy,’ on July 26, and I have high hopes for that song. It’s about to get busy with more regular shows and lots of travel, but I’m ready for it. We built this show to celebrate the magic that found me and my bandmates in my parent’s garage back in 1998 and the beautiful years of music that followed. I just want people to feel alive at these shows, to use this music as a time machine and make contact with the moments in their lives when this music was the soundtrack. Most importantly, I want fans to walk away with a new formative memory of all of us doing what we love most. Giving ourselves over completely to music for a couple of hours and singing these songs together. I want it to be visceral.

  • Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

    [ad_1]

It’s no secret at this point, we are huge Greysons Chance fans, and have been for years, so this is a pretty huge moment for us! We got to pick Greyson’s brain about his latest releases, and about what’s next, as well as about his relationship with his fans and about displaying vulnerability in his music. We are still processing getting to have this conversation! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

    Stream ‘Haymaker’ here!

Hi Greyson! Thank so you much for taking the time to talk with us today! To start us off, how would you describe who you are as an artist to someone who is just tuning in for the first time?

Oh that’s rather hard isn’t it? Ever so often I have to tell my story in full, starting from the YouTube video to where I am now; and the whole thing really does read out like a movie. It’s a bizarre story. But if someone is truly tuning in for the first time, I would say my career started with me singing at the piano. And now 14-years-later, I’m still singing at the piano.

‘Rearview Mirror’ marked the start of this next musical journey you’re on, what was it about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made you want it to be the first introduction to this new era?

There was something very classic about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made me want to make it the lead. I am always chasing that feeling of nostalgia everyday I go into the studio, to make things that feel bigger than me and to make things that will stand the test of time. From the jump, ‘Rearview Mirror’ felt that way, and I didn’t second-guess it.

‘Haymaker’ is the track following ‘Rearview Mirror’ and you’ve said the track was born out of a place of conflict within your family, what was it like to be able to work that out through music? Was writing the healing process, or had that already come and writing was the result of the healing?

I’ve gone through a lot in my life, but nothing quite stings like the emotions of family conflict, and for three years, I watched my family crumble before my own eyes. It was awful. Writing was certainly the healing process for me, and it’s been that way since I started writing songs. I told my cowriter Sam Harris the day we wrote ‘Haymaker’ that a thousand pounds were lifted off of my shoulders once those words hit the page.

You’ve always been very personal with your music, with your songs chaptering parts of your life. Can you pinpoint something that you were hesitant to put to music, but ended up in a song that you released and got to see it resonate with people?

I was very hesitant to release ‘Haymaker,’ because it is my real life. I haven’t really spoken to my brother in a few years, so ‘Haymaker’ is this an encapsulation of everything I would say to him if I had the chance. So for these lyrics to be the first words he hears from me? Yeah, that shit’s raw, it’s ugly, it’s nuanced, but it’s necessary. Good art comes from vulnerability, I’ve always believed that.

Palladium was the last record, what is something that you learned during that album rollout/creative process that you’ve taken with you into creating the next project?

I learned through Palladium that I am an album artist, and I always will be. I want to world build, I want my music and my visuals to paint a scene for the listener, to bring them to a place that feels disconnected from their own reality. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that the world needs to be complex, it just needs to be purposeful.

You’ve been in the industry for a long time, and because of that, you’ve had fans that have been around for a decade+ going to shows and supporting the music, what has having the support that’s allowed for breaks (like going to college and stepping away from music) while aways sticking around meant?

When I tell you I am the luckiest artist, you have no idea. My fans know my life, they know what I’ve been through, they know that I’ve suffered a lot, both mentally and physically since I was kid … they keep me upright. Think of someone you’ve known for 14-years of your life? That’s the type of relationship I have with my fans. I don’t feel a pressure to make music for them, if anything I feel a pressure to be healthy and happy for them, because I know that is what they want for me more than anything. My relationship with them is the coolest thing I get to experience in my life.

We know that crafting any form of art takes a village and it is often easier to thank the other people involved and harder to pat yourself on the back, but what is something you’ve been really proud of yourself for during the process of crafting ’Rearview Mirror’/’Haymaker?’

I am proud of myself for pushing forward and continuing on no matter the adversity I’ve gone through. Music is a cutthroat industry, and it’s full of rejection. But the older I get, the more I realize the power in just surviving, waking up everyday and focusing in on the silver lining. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, and that feels like a huge accomplishment.

When you look back at your discography is there a song for you that you have recently felt reconnected to? Maybe a track that you hadn’t revisited in a while and realized it still hits as hard as when you made it?

Boots, a song I released as a stand alone single around four years ago. “I’ve been western before all of these punks,” hits way hard in 2024. Don’t get me started on these fake cowboys out here right now.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we finish out 2024? What’s on the horizon?

I’ve been working on this record for the past year and a half, and ‘Rearview Mirror’ and ‘Haymaker’ are just the first two songs; I’m ready to show everyone the full world. So I guess to answer your question … more music, and a lot of shows. That’s what is on my horizon.

  • TXT Celebrate Their Bond In ‘We’ll Never Change’ And CHIKAI

TXT Celebrate Their Bond In ‘We’ll Never Change’ And CHIKAI

    [ad_1]

Another TOMORROW X TOGETHER comeback, another arrow straight to our hearts! Back with their fourth Japanese single, CHIKAI, TXT has continued the trajectory they began earlier this year with TOMORROW, by which we mean they’ve decided to hit us where it hurts.

CHIKAI translates to ‘oath,’ and that’s exactly what this single album is. Across three tracks, the members restate their dedication to one another, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. TXT are always busy, but 2024 is proving to be one of the most intense yet. Following the back of TOMORROW‘s global success, TXT are in the middle of their third world tour, ACT: PROMISE. They’re also developing more and more notoriety in the fashion space and have attended Paris Fashion Week twice so far this year, and three of the five members have launched their own solo variety shows. See what we mean? You couldn’t dedicate yourself to all of that unless you really meant it.

TXT continues to grow but don’t worry, they’ll never change…

    ‘We’ll Never Change’

First of all, can we take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous that harp is? We absolutely love that TXT emphasizes it in the choreography, which is as ethereal and dainty as the song deserves.

The layers in both the vocals and the track are stunning, we’re obsessed with the delicacy of the guitar, and overall the song is just so soothing. The tape sound effect in the production adds to the wistful sentimentality, and we couldn’t love it more if we tried. A reverent homage to friendship, ‘We’ll Never Change’ is the latest in a long list of nostalgic TXT songs.

Even at a distance, even as we get older, one oath, we’re never, we’re never, we’re never changing.

    ‘We’ll Never Change’ lyrics

Our tubatu sing of “Blending into each other, filling each other’s gaps,” as “love sparkles,” and we couldn’t agree with them more. As a group with distinct personalities, performance styles, and musical tastes, MOA has long known how well TXT balances each other out. After all, as they say, “Our ‘difference’ is not ‘wrong.’”

    ‘We’ll Never Change’ Music Video

And as for the ‘We’ll Never Change’ music video? It’s delicious agony from start to finish. It opens with a flying light very similar to the fox from the ‘Deja Vu’ music video, and that’s not the end of the links. Just as ‘Deja Vu’ referenced so many of their Korean music videos, ‘We’ll Never Change’ does the same for TXT’s Japanese discography.

TXT all play football together, just as they do in the ‘Run Away (Japanese Version)’ video, but this time Beomgyu is properly in the group now (and doesn’t fall off a bike in this entire MV, which feels like the biggest miracle of all). They all seem to have grown-up jobs now (boo), but what hasn’t changed is their love for their friendship. Yeonjun, who cleans a cinema, sheds tears as he watches their memories on the big screen. It adds to the lore theory that the members only exist inside his head, which makes us wanna bawl our eyes out, TBH.

    ‘Deja Vu (Japanese Version)’

One thing you should know about ‘Deja Vu?’ It’s a triple threat. One of the best K-Pop songs of 2024 now has three versions! We’re so happy to add the Japanese version to our playlist rotation alongside the original and the ‘Anemoia Remix.’ Sandwiching it in between the other two tracks on CHIKAI really emphasizes its emotional intensity, whilst allowing the other songs to be more gentle, light-hearted moments.

    ‘Kitto Zutto (きっとずっと)’

Is it really a TXT comeback if there isn’t a pop-punk-inspired b-side? We guess we’ll never know. ‘Kitto Zutto’ was produced by the one and only diamond maknae, Huening Kai! He adds this to his list of credits including the likes of ‘Dear Sputnik,’ and it’s so cool to see his identity as a producer becoming more and more distinct.

Lyrically, TXT continues to twist the nostalgia-imbued knife. ‘Kitto Zutto’ or ‘きっとずっと’ approximately translates to ‘undoubtedly always.’ Is it just us, or did you immediately think of TOMORROW b-side ‘Miracle,’ too? TXT was singing about how the biggest miracle in their daily life is each other (‘Miracle’) and they promise their future is “you” (‘Deja Vu’), and now they’re doubling down on it with lyrics like this…

I promise, no matter what, surely, always, I will be right beside you

    ‘Kitto Zutto’ Lyrics (translation credit)

See? We weren’t exaggerating when we said that TXT is out to hit us in the feels with CHIKAI, and basically everything else they’ve done in 2024.

So, what’s next for our tubatu? All five members (including Beomgyu, despite his injury!) are currently in Japan promoting ‘We’ll Never Change,’ and then TXT will embark on their first dome tour across Japan, starting in Tokyo on July 10th.

What’s your favorite track from TXT’s CHIKAI? Are you drowning in nostalgia like we are? Let us know on Twitter @TheHoneyPOP! You can also find us on Facebook and Instagram!

  • How aespa’s ‘Hot Mess’ Connects To The Rest Of Their Discography

How aespa’s ‘Hot Mess’ Connects To The Rest Of Their Discography

    [ad_1]

It’s been almost four years since aespa (and their aes) started lighting up our lives, yet they’re still finding innovative new ways to show us new sides of their art while also building on the worlds they’ve already created. Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning’s debut Japanese single, ‘Hot Mess,’ is such a fun addition to their catalog that includes throwbacks to many of their past songs! Whether you’re a new MY or a longtime fan and just want to make sure you’ve caught everything, here’s our breakdown of the references you can keep an ear (and eye) out for.

    “A hot mess…”

From pretty much the beginning of aespa, MYs have had a joke that Giselle is the resident Hot Girl of K-Pop because of her talent and the fact that her high school yearbook quote was Paris Hilton’s “that’s hot” catchphrase. Since then, it’s made its way into their music in the form of Giselle’s ‘2HOT4U’ solo, as well as the OT4 songs ‘Next Level,’ ‘Spicy,’ and ‘Supernova.’

Giselle is the only Japanese member of aespa, so it’s cute that aespa made the name of their Japanese debut tie into one of her inside jokes!

The first of a few different references to aespa’s Drama mini-album and era! The girls remind us not to blink and miss something important after warning someone not to let their guard down on ‘Don’t Blink.’

“If you likе it, I can take you to MY WORLD…”

Face it, everyone loved it when aespa took us to their world on the MY WORLD mini-album last year! With songs like ‘Spicy’ and ‘Thirsty,’ it really was one of the most iconic eras of the girls’ career so far. Another iconic aespa song notably references MY WORLD, but we’ll get to that shortly…

    “Hidden ænergy, dream designer…”

From the first time we heard ‘ænergy’ on aespa’s 2021 Savage mini-album, we know it’d go down in history as one of the best opening tracks in K-Pop history! It set the scene for a powerful EP that let aespa show off their fierce personalities, and the title describes their strengths and charms. Here, they’re flaunting how those strengths and charms have let them design the life of their dreams.

“Drama has begun, this is not fiction…”

We think the strongest ties ‘Hot Mess’ has with any past aespa song are with ‘Drama!’ Not only is there this name-drop, but both songs reference MY WORLD and there are a whole lot of connections in the ‘Hot Mess’ music video. Let’s break them down!

During the first chorus of the ‘Hot Mess’ video, one shot shows Winter through a car backup camera that says, “Check surroundings for your safety.” It kind of reminded us of the ominous message we got in the beginning of the ‘Drama’ music video: “Please follow [these] rules while watching the Drama. Look back immediately when you feel a presence in the dark. If your reflection in the mirror tries to shake your hand, do not let it.”

Winter winds up freefalling off a building during the bridge of ‘Hot Mess,’ much like she does in the ‘Drama’ music video after Ningning seems to drop her. Later in the ‘Drama’ video, Winter refuses to let Karina fall the same way, and keeps a tight grip on her wrist.

Finally, the last chorus of ‘Hot Mess’ shows aespa as giants in a modern city. Yup, you know where we’re heading with this: it almost definitely connects to the Giant teasers from the Drama era! We think this is the most clear confirmation that ‘Hot Mess’ and ‘Drama’ belong in the same universe.

The animated characters in the ‘Hot Mess’ music video also reminded us of the ones we see in the ‘Savage’ video, and ‘Drama’ mentions ‘Savage’ in its chorus! Could this be another connection? Maybe each of these three songs take place in the same section of aespa’s multiverse, and these animated characters are their versions of aes…

Which track on aespa’s Hot Mess single album is your favorite? Did you notice all of these references on your own? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Matching Red Velvet’s Cosmic Songs To Zodiac Constellations

Matching Red Velvet’s Cosmic Songs To Zodiac Constellations

    [ad_1]

Our love for Red Velvet is nothing short of cosmic, and that’s especially true now that we’ve heard their latest EP, Cosmic. Ever since their debut in 2014, they’ve consistently delivered incredible songs, music videos, and more that have cemented their way into K-Pop history. Cosmic is a stunning culmination of a decade of hard work, success, and magic that’s guaranteed to win over any girl group fan!

The Cosmic mini-album celebrates the group’s 10th anniversary with a beautiful fusion of their Red and Velvet concepts, mixing their signature harmonies and R&B influences with bubbly energy and sparkling excitement. This duality also pops up in the era’s visuals – most of the concept photos were space-themed and ethereal, while the ‘Cosmic’ music video takes place in a meadow à la Midsommar

With the cosmic theme in mind, venture “through the solar system” and into the cosmos with us as we assign each track on Cosmic to a different zodiac constellation!

    ‘Cosmic’

Our first peek into Red Velvet’s latest era came with the title track ‘Cosmic,’ which is a sparkly anthem for summer love! Throughout the song, Red Velvet likens their hearts to a star that “tells [them] she’s a bit lonely” as they start falling for someone. They’re ready to take on the world with this new lover by their side! And the chorus’ “riding your rhythm through the solar system” lyric is a fun nod to their 2022 song ‘Feel My Rhythm.’

The Gemini constellation would be a great match for this song since it’s about connection and unity! That symbolism comes from the Greek myth of Castor and Pollux, who were twin brothers despite having different dads. It reminds us of how the members of Red Velvet are like sisters now, even if they aren’t related!

    “‘Come with me,’ you say
‘Discover things no human eyes have seen,’ you say
    I just can’t say goodnight…”

    ‘Sunflower’

‘Sunflower’ is an energetic, adorable song about the thrilling rush of love. It’s as bright as a ‘Sunflower!’ If someone wrote something this sweet about us, we think we’d collapse on the spot. The “I’ll find you in my dreams, driving forward” lyric might be a callback to ‘In My Dreams,’ one of our all-time fave Red Velvet songs, which makes us love this track even more. Our constellation pick for this one is Aries, since it often symbolizes new beginnings and adventure. What an exciting way to describe a new relationship!

“I might melt away in your universe
    You got me hypnotized…”

    ‘Last Drop’

Is it really a Red Velvet EP if we don’t shed a few tears? We think not, and ‘Last Drop’ was the song that brought on the waterworks! Full of pretty synths and guitar strums, it’s all about Red Velvet’s love and appreciation for Reveluvs who have supported them over the years. Even with how difficult it can be in the music industry, they promise to keep delivering amazing music for us and giving us every last drop of effort. We also love how the “dazzling night festival” lyric references their iconic The ReVe Festival albums.

Our official constellation choice for ‘Last Drop’ is Cancer, which symbolizes loyalty. We’ll always be loyal supporters of Red Velvet!

“I’ll fly lightyears to find you
To you, who made me shine bright in the boundless night
To you, my universe and the only reason I exist…”

    ‘Love Arcade’

‘Love Arcade’ has already become one of our favorite Red Velvet b-sides thanks to its creative theme and production! The song compares love to a game that the girls are ready to take on, and its retro pop sounds that sound like a classic video game soundtrack will make you feel like you’re really in a fun arcade. We think the Scorpio constellation would be the best match – it symbolizes passion, strategy, and power, which are three important things when you’re playing a game.

“Everything is ready, there are no rules (Make a new stage)
Should we end this boring quest?
    Let’s go to the top…”

    ‘Bubble’

‘Bubble’ is an energizing, synth-infused track about exploring the world and embracing all its possibilities with the right person by your side. And since this is RV’s anniversary comeback, we think it’s about the group themselves! They’ve made the global music scene their “shiny” stage together and it’s been so fun to watch over the years, especially with how many different sounds and concepts they’ve explored. We’d match up ‘Bubble’ with the Sagittarius constellation, which represents exploration!

“I want to be with you wherever you go
Following your light because all dreams become clearer…”

    ‘Night Drive’

The Cosmic mini-album ends with ‘Night Drive,’ a midtempo synthpop song with a relaxing edge, which would make the perfect soundtrack for an actual ‘Night Drive’ down a city street. It tells a story about enjoying a night drive with someone you care about, possibly as a celebration of Red Velvet’s members or Reveluvs. We think ‘Night Drive’ would totally pair well with the Pisces constellation, which is associated with love and escapism! The symbolism comes from a Greek myth in which Aphrodite and her son, Eros, escape a monster by turning into fish.

“You tell me, ‘I’ll always be by your side, I promise…’”

Which track on Cosmic do you get the most starry-eyed for? Did we match up your fave with the constellation for your zodiac sign? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Exclusive Interview: Speelburg On Silver Medal Slump And Filmmaking

Exclusive Interview: Speelburg On Silver Medal Slump And Filmmaking

    [ad_1]

It’s time for you to get to know Speelburg! In the latest of THP’s exclusive interviews, we chat with Speelburg, fresh off the release of his sophomore album, Silver Medal Slump. Speelburg is a multi-disciplinary artist who can do it all – make witty “weird pop,” direct music videos for your faves, and give you great movie recommendations. We simply have to stan!

His latest project, Silver Medal Slump, is the second album under the name Speelburg. Each song was slowly-but-surely released over the course of a year, and the album’s arc unpacks the nature of second place. Centering your ‘dreaded second album’ around the idea of second place is so witty, and that’s just Speelburg all over, TBH.

We were so excited to talk with Speelburg about Silver Medal Slump, his namesake, and so much more, in this exclusive interview. So we won’t keep you waiting any longer!

Image Source: Alex Boundy, via Sideways Media

    Speelburg x THP Exclusive Interview

Congratulations on Silver Medal Slump! You released the songs over a long period of time, but how does it feel to have the whole body of work out there in the world now? What’s the response been like?
Thanks! Yeah, the response has been great! It’s so nice to have the whole thing out there living in the world as a 10 song, 32 min unit. People have been super nice about it — I guess it would be pretty weird if they went out of their way to DM me and dunk on it, but luckily that hasn’t happened yet. Like, yeah, the whole thing came out over the course of a year, because honestly, that felt like the best way to do it for this record. The first one took a lot longer to complete and get out there so I really wanted to try the complete opposite of that. Take 10 songs, and as each one is finished, try and get it out there as quick as possible. You still have an eye on the eventual goal of the album as a whole, but it makes you write and commit a lot quicker.

You released music videos for so many of the tracks, and we love how they represent different facets
of both the album and of you. What made you decide to go with this Silver Medal theme?

Well, I like having an overall theme and aesthetic for the an album, even if it only ever makes sense to me. At some point while I was writing this album I started really getting into the idea of runners up, second place winners, sequels etc… and like, looking at a lot of sophomoric efforts and what it meant to put out a second album. In a lot of ways it’s a second album about making a second album, not necessarily in some huge Charlie Kauffman way. But not not either.

And how did you decide the order that you released the tracks? Was it as-and-when each song was
    ready to be heard?

Yes and no. At first, I had a few finished songs and was like, “Well, if I start releasing the first single now, I’ll have to commit to releasing the whole album by this date.” So you look at the few finished songs and choose the first single, then you release the next one and you’re kind of doing it in a way that makes sense to you, and then you look at the list of 7 or 8 nearly finished songs and go “alright now I got a good view of what I need to get done.” As stressful as it was in the end, the process was a whole lot funner than sitting on a finished record for a year or more.

Your debut album, Porsche, came out in 2020. Did you feel any pressure to live up to the
expectations that were set following the success of it? Though we’ll admit there’s a certain irony to
this question given the concept of Silver Medal Slump!

Well sure. Yeah, like you point out, there’s definitely some pressure but to be honest, there was a lot less on this one, mainly because I kept telling myself the debut needs to be out by this time, under these perfect conditions, and it needs to say this about me and blah blah blah. This is not to say this one has no intention, it totally knows what it’s trying to say. it’s just, it felt like when I finally had the first one out, I had suddenly paved an endless runway for myself. “I’ve done the first album, now I can just keep making more and none of them ever have to be the debut Speelburg album.” Does that make sense?

Totally! You freed yourself by getting that first one out.
Exactly! It was probably mostly self-imposed pressure, and this is not to say each new album isn’t going to come with it’s own set of rules and anxieties, but it feels like having your first one out, people can really join along the way as you evolve and grow as a writer and producer.

You’ve referred to your work as “weird pop” before. How would you define that?
I think it’s just a way to tell people I make pop that isn’t the first thing they think of when someone says pop. I think they think of something like Dua Lipa. But like, I’m going to the same well as them so there’s not that much distinction. Everyone’s doing everything these days and releasing it all as singles. Making singles is fun. You really get to experiment with all kinds of genres. At the end of the day, if it has your voice, or even just your name, people are down to listen.

It’s been said that you have a Wes Anderson-esque sense of humor in your music, which we totally
agree with. So we have to ask: what’s your favorite Wes Anderson film?

Oh that’s nice! Thanks. He’s rad. The thing I really like about directing that’s similar to music is that you’re constantly learning new things. You start a thing and then slowly it becomes another career and along the way you try and copy some shots, you try and come up with your own. Same with music genres. You hear a thing you love and you want to figure out how it’s made and how to make your own version of it. It’s really hard to pick a favorite, but I will say the one I really love that doesn’t seem to get as much love is The Darjeeling Limited. I’ve seen it dozens of times, and it’s just one of those movies that came along at a perfect time. Something about brothers fighting and talking over each other, the amazing Indian setting and a killer soundtrack. I just love it so much.

And dare we ask what your favorite Spielberg film is?!
Catch Me If You Can. No, wait. Hook. I’m gonna say Hook. Just because, if you watch the featurette behind the scenes video, it really shows you everything that went into making the world seem so real. Hook rules.

You clearly have so much passion and talent in film-making, with your work for The National amongst others. How does your work in this space impact your music and vice versa?
At this point I’d say they’re pretty knotted together. For my own personal work anyway, you can’t really have
one without the other. I think about a lot of these songs visually, so video and music pretty much go hand in hand. But I really dig the commercial work. Anytime you get stuck on a song, you just say yes to a directing job and it just puts that track on ice for a couple weeks. You come back to music in such an excited way, and can figure out pretty quickly how to fix it. And people like The National and John Legend and their teams have been such great collaborators. You get a surprising amount of creative freedom which means you can experiment on such a larger scale. And again, you take a lot of those lessons in collaboration, speed and execution back to the music side. Like, I got to work on this video for the National that mixed video and animation and the turnaround was pretty quick, but the whole thing was so fun and I’ve ended up using a few of those tricks on other visual stuff for Speelburg, so it all kind of feeds into each other.

Are there any particular music artists out there that you’d love to direct in the future?
Oh man, so so many. I’d really love to do some videos for Girl Ultra. She’s so so cool. I think I could do some pretty great stuff for Remi Wolf and Beck too…You know I’d really like to try to do more with choreography too. I directed this small video and ended up just shouting out dance moves behind the camera to these twoactors, and they were great, and the whole thing just came together, but I’m by no means a choreographer. I would just love to work with someone great who knows what they’re doing and take care of the rest. Then beyond that anyone from like Toro Y Moi, LCD, Phoenix, Tame Impala to like, The Weeknd and Ariana Grande would be such a dream. Really want to do as much of that stuff as I can over the next year while I finish up the next record so who knows!

We love that you split your time between LA and London (two of our fave cities), too! How do each of
these places inspire you? Does the energy they have impact you in different ways?

Oh totally! There’s some cool stuff coming out of the UK, and honestly feels completely different from what comes out of LA, and bringing weirder, more interesting references to your writing, especially in collaborations, is always better. The UK is always thriving when it comes to electronic music, and it’s developed a really great art rock scene in recent years with labels like Speedy Wunderground being a great way in for new acts. LA’s got the sun and it’s got the money and the studios but it’s also got some great gnarliness to it and that divide makes for great and interesting art. There’s also a really great community there, other transplants, like-minded musicians, a whole great scene that’s constantly evolving. I love them both. I’m happy in whatever place keeps me hearing new and interesting music and meeting new and interesting people.

We’re still basking in Silver Medal Slump, but we have to ask: What’s up next for you?
Well, we’ll see if it can be done, but right now I’m starting to see the next record start coming to life. It might not have all the squishy organs yet, but the shell is forming. As for the commercial work, that’s a little harder to talk about before it’s all signed off, but I really feel like I’m only getting better with each project, and pretty stoked to share all of it. And beyond that, I’m super excited to get back on the road and tour the album. We’ll be doing some dates at the end of the summer and into the fall and I can’t wait to see what works! Records and commercial work aside, playing live is my favorite thing. I feel like I spoke a lot in this interview. Hopefully, it’s not too boring. I tried really hard to get really good at making this album as concise as it could. I’m not sure I can say the same about this interview.

Definitely not too much! Thanks so much to Speelburg for chatting with us for this interview!

All Love? Social Media Shares Mixed Reactions After Eminem Name-Drops Megan Thee Stallion On New Song (WATCH)

Social media is sharing mixed reactions after Eminem name-dropped Megan Thee Stallion on his new song, ‘Houdini.’

RELATED: Oop! Charlamagne Tha God Goes Viral After Saying THIS About Megan Thee Stallion (WATCH)

Here’s What Eminem Said About Megan Thee Stallion On ‘Houdini’

On Friday, May 31, Eminem released his latest single, ‘Houdini,’ which is featured on his upcoming album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady,’ per Billboard.

In the early hours of Friday morning, Em also released the official music video for ‘Houdini’ via YouTube. Furthermore, the video featured star-studded cameos from the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Pete Davidson.

Despite the star-studded appearances, one figure who wasn’t featured in the video caught the attention of the masses.

About a minute and eight seconds into the track, Em named dropped Megan by rapping:

“If I was to ask for Megan Thee / Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat?”

    Social Media Reacts

Social media users reacted to Em’s bar about Meg in The Shade Room’s comment section. Many appeared conflicted about whether the rapper was showing Megan love by requesting a feature. Or, if he was dissing her with a double entendre of her being shot in her foot in 2020, per The Shade Room.

Instagram user @prettygirlsmurf wrote, If you know em , you know it was a bar not a diss.”

While Instagram user @mann.listen added, he’s seeing all the black men disrespect her so he’s like well why can’t I? SMH.”

Instagram user @phrenchmade wrote, “‘Ask Stallion would She Collab with Me, Would I really hv a SHOT at a FEAT’!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Just Say Yall Comprehensions is Slim and Shady!!! 🤣😂😭”

While Instagram user @alvy_be added,Corny ass hell we def let him get away with tooooo much”

While Instagram user @kendragmedia added, “‘Shot at a feat’ is a play off her really being shot at her feet…. Take it how you want. He’s a master with lines. If I was her though, I would not collab with him after this. I’m sure he doesn’t care about a feature truly though”

Instagram user @fuel4thebody wrote,If you don’t know what a double entendre is, just say that.”

While Instagram user @the0nly_ataviona added, He ain’t diss her he asked for a feature……. What are y’all talking about in the comments”

Instagram user @rjay.k wrote,They love to use her name for clout cause they cant get it on they own😭”

While Instagram user @keep6iixsolid added, 😂 Can’t cancel Eminem he’s been tryna cancel himself for years”

Here’s What’s Recently Been Going Down With Meg

Megan Thee Stallion has yet to publicly react to Eminem name-dropping her. As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this week, the 29-year-old’s lawyers responded on her behalf to a harassment lawsuit filed against her in April.

The lawsuit was filed by the rapper’s ex-photographer, Emilio Garcia, who accused Meg of having sex in front of him and creating a “hostile, abusive work environment,” per The Shade Room.

Furthermore, the photographer alleged that Megan prohibited him from speaking out about his grievances before his payouts from her decreased, and he was wrongfully terminated.

Meg’s lawyer initially responded by calling the lawsuit an “employment claim for money,” per The Shade Room.

Then, earlier this week, Meg’s lawyers officially responded to the suit in a court filing, per The Shade Room. The attorneys asserted that Garcia is a “con artist” whose suit is “fabricated.”

Additionally, the attorneys reportedly shared that they believe the suit was wrongly filed in California and are requesting the case be transferred to a federal court.

  • Showing Love To Heather Mae’s Queer Love Anthem ‘kissing girls’

Showing Love To Heather Mae’s Queer Love Anthem ‘kissing girls’

    [ad_1]

Pride month is right around the corner, but it’s never too early to celebrate! Heather Mae gives us the queer anthem of the season with her new single, ‘kissing girls.’ It is all about learning to love (and learning to love yourself). ‘kissing girls’ is fun, raw, and intimate.

    ‘kissing girls’

Showcasing a variety of relationships and symbolizing love does, in fact, come in all shapes and sizes, the music video for ‘kissing girls’ is simple in all the right ways! After all, love is already complicated. Why add to it? We’re obsessed with the makeshift photo booth, impromptu dance party, and home movie-esque shots. It makes us feel like we’re right there with her, giving this personal song that extra personal touch.

Growing up in church and the Evangelical movement, the only representation of LGBTQ+ people that I was familiar with were the kids who got kicked out for being queer. Even though my first crush was on a girl, I hid the truth of what that meant to protect myself from losing my entire community. This is why visibility is profoundly important to me

    Heather Mae

In ‘kissing girls,’ Heather doesn’t just show off her vocals but also her incredible songwriting ability. A captivating story from beginning to end, she shares her own path and experiences beautifully. From whimsical lyrics about playing as children and sleeping over after softball games to exploring why she felt the need to hide herself, Heather Mae takes you on a journey. She may have been kissing girls as long as she’s been kissing boys, but this song isn’t just for the bisexuals. ‘kissing girls’ is a song for everyone!

‘kissing girls’ celebrates not only queer joy but also pays a heartfelt tribute to the transgender community—highlighting the journey of transitioning and the steadfast love of supportive partners.

A bisexual love song for people who have loved or been loved by someone who was transgender. We deserve to hear our love songs on the radio, too.

    Heather Mae

‘kissing girls’ is a warm hug of heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies you’ll want to listen to over and over again. We guarantee each time you do, you’ll find something new to love. We know we have!

Stream ‘kissing girls’ by Heather Mae on Spotify and Apple Music!

  • Our Feelings For The Script’s New Single Go ‘Both Ways’ For Sure

Our Feelings For The Script’s New Single Go ‘Both Ways’ For Sure

    [ad_1]

One of our absolute favorite bands of all time is The Script. These guys have been making music for almost two decades now and have been the soundtrack to some very important moments in our lives. Which is why we’re stoked to see them back with another single and an album announcement! ‘Both Ways’ came out on Friday and it’s already made its way into our playlists and our hearts.

The song seems to be a preview of what we can expect from The Script in the coming months: high energy, funky beats accompanied by lead singer Danny O’Donoghue’s powerful voice. And, of course, the promise that there is hope and light after dark times. And if you think we didn’t cry listening to “If you miss me like I miss you, then the feeling goes both ways” at the end of the chorus, then you’d be wrong.

‘Both Ways’ is the best way (hehe) to start off this new era of The Script and we cannot wait to see what comes next in their story. But we do have one clue: the band is set to release a new album, called Satellite, on August 16, which will include ‘Both Ways’ as the opener and 11 more tracks we cannot wait to hear. And if we had to guess, we’d say this is going to be quite the emotional ride, as Satellites is the first album the band will record and release after the passing of guitarist Mark Sheehan last year.

“The album cover is silhouettes of me, Glen, and Ben Sargeant, our bassist, who’s been with us from the beginning. Then we have a hooded silhouette, because the air of Mark is still there. He always will be, but it’s also giving a tip of the hat to the future. It’ll never be the same Script. We’re just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do and that’s to keep making more great music.”

And if you think that’s all, think again, dear reader! Because not only are The Script giving us a full album soon, they’re also heading back to the stage on a North American tour along with P!nk between August and October of this year, with a few headline shows in between as well. You can check out the full list of dates on their website here.

And what did you think of ‘Both Ways?’ Tell us all about it by chatting with us on Twitter, Instagram and/or Facebook. We’d love to hear what you have to say!

  • The 3 secrets to viral music videos – ReverbNation Blog

The 3 secrets to viral music videos – ReverbNation Blog

    [ad_1]

Do your music videos go viral on platforms like TikTok and Instagram?

If not, there may be three fairly simple adjustments you can make moving forward to get more eyeballs on your music video content.

Of course, I can’t promise your videos will go “viral.”

There are a lot of variables for virality: Quality, talent, trends, timing, algorithms.

But I CAN say lots of the music content that’s surfaced in my own social feeds throughout the past year has shared three common qualities.

    1. You should post “live” performance videos

Throughout 2023 and 2024, most of the music-related videos that I’ve seen going “viral” (meaning lots of views, likes, comments, and shares) are performances. And I don’t mean concert footage from gigs.

I mean things like Jon Poppii’s minimalist acoustic covers.

    Or Mark Scibilia’s live-looping videos.

Or Walk Off the Earth’s hilarious stunt performances.

No matter how much you hear about the popularity of GRWM videos, dance trends, or memes — when it comes to music, it seems that viewers on TikTok and Reels simply love seeing good performers doing their thing. Singing a song. Playing an instrument. Feeling the feels.

To be clear, I’ve noticed some exceptions to this rule in 2024, which is nice. Since that gives you more creative options for your videos, and you can explore more “vertical” approaches to the traditional narrative or impressionistic music-video format.

But as a general rule, I still think the live performance trend is holding strong and should be the approach you prioritize.

So… don’t fret about big-budget videos. Don’t worry about “official” music videos. Just shoot some footage of you playing “live.”

It can be in your bedroom, rehearsal space, studio, a theater, a field of flowers, a mountaintop, a protest, the median of a busy roadway (safety first!), a hot air balloon, or anywhere else. What’s most important is that you deliver a great performance.

And when you do, how should you approach the video shoot so the viewer feels connected to your performance?

    2. Get it all in one take with one camera

Another common quality of viral music content is the single-camera / single-take approach.

    A new iPhone is enough.

No edits! No cutaways! No b-roll!

Just the intimacy of one camera tracking whatever action is most important in the moment. And all of the real-time risk that comes with it.

I don’t mean you have to publish your FIRST take. But rather, your best take.

This is great news for you, on the one hand, because it greatly reduces your production workload and budget; You don’t need multiple cameras or multiple people to shoot video. And you don’t need an editor afterwards.

However, because you can’t lean on edits to create urgency or to cover-up for awkward moments, the pressure is on while filming.

Remember, though: It’s short-form video. You’re apt to get more views for a 15-30 second snippet than for a full 4-minute performance.

So if you can only confidently deliver 30 seconds of the hook, it might be more than enough!

If you’re still doubting yourself, worried that you can’t even capture 30-seconds of great visuals and great audio simultaneously…

    3. You’re allowed to lip-sync in your “live” performance videos

Though the visuals are crucial, so is the audio. Quality sound is key. It can’t be crap.

As I said above, if getting good audio and video at the same time is stressful, just lip-sync!

Capture the great recording first, and then put effort into believably performing along with that track. It needs to look convincing, but it doesn’t have to be airtight.

Plenty of the videos I see going viral in 2024 are obviously lip-synced. Others are less obviously lip-synced. Some — I assume — are actually live. But the point is, that distinction doesn’t really matter for you average viewer.

It’s the type of thing we musicians will get all twisted about, holding ourselves back from producing content that has a chance of getting seen! So give yourself permission to lip-sync.

You don’t have to publish the results, but I’d wager you’ll get better results when you try it.

    Conclusion

The exciting thing about this performance video trend is that it’s asking musicians to do the very thing you should already feel comfortable doing: playing songs live.

If you give yourself permission to lip-sync, you’re removing one of the biggest technical hurdles to capturing good performance footage. And if you commit to the single-camera / one-take approach, these kinds of videos are actually EASIER to produce. All great news for musicians who manage their own social, video production, and marketing.

But trends don’t last forever, and the algorithms will certainly shift what they recommend eventually. So jump on this music video trend today.

Kyle Richards Cops To Being ‘Curious’ About Kissing A Woman Before Morgan Wade Music Video! – Perez Hilton

    [ad_1]

Kyle Richards is opening up about locking lips with Morgan Wade — and Erika Jayne‘s facial expressions in reaction to the reveal tell you all you need to know!!

On Monday, Bravo let slip a teaser clip of the third part of the season 13 reunion of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. In it, Kyle is put on the spot regarding the steamy kiss between her and Wade as part of the country crooner’s music video for Fall In Love With Me that was filmed last year. And Kyle is now admitting she was definitely curious!

Related: Kyle Richards Gets ANOTHER Tattoo For ‘Friend’ Morgan Wade!

In case you’ve forgotten, reminisce with the video and its kiss (below):

Got it? OK! So, Kyle wanted to get the timeline of the vid correct. When castmate Crystal Kung Minkoff asked when the video was filmed, the RHOBH vet made it clear that they shot it in June of 2023 — a month BEFORE she and now-estranged husband Mauricio Umansky revealed that they had separated:

“The music video was done — I want to say a month before that story broke about Mo and me — but obviously once that story came out about Mo and me — we’re not going to make a video after that. We made it before. We already done it.”

    Hmmm…

So does that mean the music video (and thus, the kiss) was the impetus for the split?! The 55-year-old stayed super-mum about that. But she did claim she had no idea the kiss was even on the table!! When host Andy Cohen asked about the on-camera lip lock, Kyle asserted she had no clue that was the plan until she got on set. And not only that, but it was the first time she’d ever kissed another girl!! Richards revealed:

“I didn’t really know the creative behind it until I got there. I never actually kissed anybody on camera — let alone a woman, or off camera. So I was very nervous and anxious, but if I’m being honest with myself, I was obviously curious in order to say yes.”

Ch-ch-check out the clip for yourself (below), and seriously, take note of Erika’s facial expressions throughout:

Got something to say, Miss Jayne?!?! Something tells us that she does. LOLz! Guess we’ll find out more on part three of the RHOBH reunion! Until then… what do U think of Kyle’s claims, y’all?? Sound OFF in the comments (below)!

  • Angeline Pompei Releases New Song and Video, ‘Save My Soul’

Angeline Pompei Releases New Song and Video, ‘Save My Soul’

    [ad_1]

The powerful ballad about change and healing from the entrepreneur, educator, and artist will be available for download on March 1 and its video on May 1.

Angeline Pompei knows that breaking barriers and achieving personal change is a challenge, a lonely and difficult journey often taken only out of necessity. Angeline has accomplished that change in her life, from skincare entrepreneur to recording artist and creator of an English language learning curriculum. Now, she has channeled her experience into her first music video for her new song, “Save My Soul.”

The powerful, guitar-driven song will be her 27th release and will be available on March 1 on her Spotify channelApple MusicAmazon, and other outlets, and the video on May 1.

Angeline has 20 years of experience in skincare and skincare marketing. When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down much of the world, she shifted careers and launched her passion project, “Learn English Fast,” which includes bilingual books and music she recorded.

Angeline said her new song is about her struggle with severe depression during the pandemic, and the life changes that resulted from it. Angeline emerged from her struggle with a dedication to pursuing her passion for singing and songwriting. She had discovered that passion in writing songs for language learners – but her new song is from a completely different place.

“‘Save My Soul’ is not for language learners. It’s about becoming or emerging into something new – in this case, an artist,” she said. “Becoming anything new is a challenge. It involves a shift in mindset. In this song, I write ‘breaking the chains locked in my brain.’ The battle is always within.”

What Angeline and millions of others experienced during the pandemic shaped the writing of the song. “COVID was the ultimate isolation for many people,” she said. “Many people suffered from loneliness and severe depression, including me. Loneliness causes one to believe there is only one path, and we listen to only one voice, our own.”

That means that to break patterns, behaviour, or thinking, she said, “The first battle is with oneself. The second battle is being able to push through the opinions and perceptions of others. The journey can be very lonely.”

“Save My Soul” includes the lyric “I’m hurting but I’m writing words to this song.” Angeline explained that comes from the life experiences that pushed her to change.

“Most of the time, we or people don’t change unless life forces us out of our comfort zone. It’s often those painful moments or life-changing events that force us to change,” she said. “The change that is often forced on us is really a testament to individual strength and it’s easy to give up or feel like we are drowning.”

Even the video’s setting, in a cenote in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, was carefully chosen to align with her message. The cenote is a natural well formed by the collapse of a limestone formation and often has both practical and spiritual purposes.

“The cenote also symbolizes loneliness and isolation,” Angeline said. “The cenote is circular, representing the environment and the mind as well. Like a shark grows to the size of its container, so do we. And our container can be physical, or it can be the barriers in our mind that keep us in our daily circles or patterns.”

“Save My Soul” is about breaking out of those patterns and healing. To learn more about Angeline, her music, and other projects, visit https://angelineauthentic.com.

  • Actually, Spotify Does Pay Their Artists

Actually, Spotify Does Pay Their Artists

    [ad_1]

After Universal Music Group, the largest record label in the industry, took all their artist’s music off TikTok after failure to reach an agreement on AI usage of their artists and safety…people are now more than ever looking into how artists are treated on platforms where their music is the main focus. For TikTok, it’s detrimental- they tried to punish UMG, and now they’re paying the price.

At the 2024 Grammy Awards this Sunday, there were tons of controversial moments: should Taylor have brought Lana Del Rey onstage, should this person have won, what was that person wearing? But one of the more subtle digs was taken by host Trevor Noah, who commented on the UMG-TikTok battle by including another well-known streaming platform,

“Shame on you, TikTok, for ripping off artists. How dare you do that? That’s Spotify’s job!”

Without artists and their music, there would be no streaming platform to be had…and Spotify knows that, which is why they’ve been tracking their royalty payments to the music industry though their Loud & Clear report. The Loud & Clear report comes out every March and shows exactly how Spotify pays it back. According to their site,

“Nearly 70% of that revenue is paid back as royalties to rights holders, who then pay the artists and songwriters, based on the agreed terms.”

This means that whatever Spotify is making from these artists and labels, and their music, they’re making sure it gets back to them. It should be a mutually beneficial experience: one where both the artist and their representation feels safe that their work will be valued and protected (and thus, properly compensated), and where the platform also gains traction from the artist’s fans.

Today, Spotify announced that they’ve paid labels over $9 billion to give us a glimpse of their Loud & Clear report. In an exclusive statement to Popdust, a Spotify spokesperson states,

“Spotify paid record labels and publishers – which represent artists and songwriters – more money than ever in 2023: $9B+. That figure has nearly tripled over the past six years, and represents a big part of the $48B+ Spotify has paid since its founding.”

Rachael Sage Releases Artful Video for Track ‘I Made a Case’ (Feat. Howard Jones)

    [ad_1]

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released an artful video for “I Made A Case” from her new 15-track, full-length studio album, The Other Side (via MPress Records). Featuring legendary UK hitmaker (and Sage’s frequent touring mate) Howard Jones on duet vocals, and a Bacharach-esque orchestral arrangement, the poignant ballad captures the age-old dilemma of would-be lovers meeting at the wrong time. Sage enthuses: “It was an enormous honor to have Howard Jones involved in recording the duet version, and he couldn’t have been any more encouraging or positive throughout the process! I’m still pinching myself that one of my very favorite artists and humans agreed to collaborate with me on such a delicate ballad – and was so protective of the song, as well.” Throughout the song, Jones & Sage have beautiful vocal chemistry, and heartbreak never sounded so sweet. The video premiered in Broadway World (US) and Classic Pop Magazine (UK), and is also the centerpiece of a Vinyl District feature.

Watch the video for “I Made A Case” HERE.

Directed by Tobias LaMontagne (with additional performance footage shot by Mikhail Pivovarov), the melancholic video is set in a deserted house on the edge of a bluff overlooking a desolate sea. Devoid of people, Sage appears as an apparition while she plaintively performs the song at a piano – a haunting image of a person coming to terms with unrealized love.

Sage’s latest studio album The Other Side is the most grounded of her illustrious career, recalling the classic, retro-warmth of the ’70s and ’80s, with memorable Americana-infused pop hooks and folk-fueled poeticism. Blending a myriad of genres and instruments into a cohesive and captivating whole, the album’s musical collaborators include guitarists Jack Petruzzelli (Patti Smith) and James Mastro (Ian Hunter), trumpet player Russ Johnson (Elvis Costello), bassist Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo), and guest vocals from UK pop icon Howard Jones. Track highlights include: “Whistle Blow,” an Americana palette of slide and acoustic guitars, where Sage muses on power dynamics and boundaries; Sage’s folk-pop anthem “The Other Side“, whose memorable gospel-tinged chorus and rapid-fire poeticism make it an instant classic; while the ‘60s-influenced “Flowers For Free” is poetic pop-rock at its most adventurous. The record also includes Sage’s interpretations of Yazoo’s classic “Only You”, and Maria McKee’s “Breathe”. Sage’s timeless writing reminds us what’s most important is always worth waiting for, via songs steeped in just the right amount of best-is-yet-to-come optimism.

The digital album, vinyl and deluxe physical CD – featuring 12 paintings by Sage, photographs by renowned Studio 54 photographer Bill Bernstein, along with a Bonus Disc of alternate mixes – can be streamed/ordered at: mpress.lnk.to/TheOtherSide
