    It hasn’t been a great year for hip-hop regarding charts and sales, and Offset isn’t surprised.

    “I’m noticing that ‘no content music’ ain’t catching nobody’s ear,” said Offset, 31, when chatting with Ebro Darden for Apple Music, after Darden asked whether the Migos alum was noticing a “transition in the game” when it came to hip-hop. “I’m noticing that the numbers are down in our genre, specifically, because I feel like everything is so the same. The next new s—t was another n— that was just here. There’s nothing new being brought to the game.”

    “Not just on the sound side but just all the way around. Creatively, too,” he continued. “Most videos be, like, a Rolls Royce in the background, two chains on. That s–t [is] getting boring, fellas. There’s no real entertainment. You got these pop and these country artists smoking s—t because they coming with the full round, the full package. … Everything ain’t flexin’.”

    Offset’s concerns are warranted. Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape became the first hip-hop album of 2023 to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and it did so in July. In the months before that, R&B (SZA’s SOS), pop (Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito, Stray Kids’ 5-Star, Taylor Swift’s Midnights) and country (Morgan Wallen‘s One Thing at a Time) occupied the top spot.

    Since then, Drake (For All The Dogs), Travis Scott (Utopia) and Rod Wave (Nostalgia) have shown that hip-hop can move units, with each taking the No. 1 spot for a week or two.

    The same can be seen on the Billboard Hot 100, where pop and country dominated for the first three-quarters of 2023. Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” was the first rap no. 1 in over a year, ending a drought after Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” reached No. 1 in August 2022, per Billboard. Since then, Drake’s “First Person Shooter” and “Slime You Out” have been the only other hip-hop/rap-adjacent songs to go to No. 1.

    Rolling Stone reported in July that only three hip-hop albums released in 2023 up to that point – Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains, Lil Durk’s Almost Healed and NF’s Hope – were in the top 25 most-consumed hip-hop albums of the year. In 2018, 13 rap albums released that year were in the genre’s top 25. Rolling Stone credits the decline to the lack of music from major stars like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and more.

    The publication also put forth a subjective theory similar to Offset’s, in that tastes are changing and fans aren’t buying what’s being sold.

    Offset released Set It Off, his second solo album, on October 13. The project debuted at No. 5 behind Zach Bryan’s self-titled album, TOMORROW x TOMORROW’s new LP, Drake’s For All The Dogs, and Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Manana.

    Hilary Duff is showing her support for an old flame.

    The How I Met Your Father star, 36, shared a video via Instagram Story on Monday, October 23, attending Joel Madden’s Good Charlotte set at When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. (Duff and Madden, 44, were linked when she was a teenager from 2004 until 2006.)

    “This!!!” she wrote over a video of the band performing alongside an astonished face emoji, alongside a series of other clips and snaps from the concert.

    The Lizzie McGuire alum wed Matthew Koma in December 2019. The couple share daughter Banks, 4, and daughter Mae, 2. Duff also shares son Luca, 11, with ex-husband Mike Comrie.

    Earlier this year, Duff shared that not only is she on good terms with her ex, but she and Koma also spend time with Madden’s wife, Nicole Richie. (Madden and the Simple Life alum, 42, tied the knot in December 2010 after four years of dating.)

    “I have a good relationship with their whole family,” Duff said during a January appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “We actually hang out all the time.”

    The foursome, who often go hiking together, are also all neighbors. “I was just in [Richie’s] driveway, honking for her to come drink wine with us the other day,” Duff told Andy Cohen, adding that Richie couldn’t make it because she was “asleep by 8.”

    Despite her past with the rocker, Duff shared that her husband is not phased by their friendship and has even enjoyed playing a few pranks on them.

    “My husband is a giant troll, it’s one of my favorite things about him,” Duff explained at the time. “Right when they moved in, for some reason Matt photoshopped a picture of Joel and [brother Benji Madden] in a photo with me on Valentine’s Day with like, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day, honey.’”

    In February 2022, the group of four were seen dining together with friends in Los Angeles, which Duff said “blew the whole world’s mind for a hot second.”

    But the pair have always been on friendly terms. A year after their split, Madden shared that the pair continue to keep in touch.

    “Every girl I’ve ever dated I have respect for, and I always try to leave them on good terms,” he said during a March 2007 interview with People. “I don’t see the necessity to be friends with anyone you’ve dated but definitely out of respect of the time, you have to be kind of respectful and that’s what I try to do.”

    He also went on to address the controversy over their nine-year age gap and said he “ignored” what people said about his relationship with Duff.

    “People can say or think whatever they want … so in my reality, it’s kind of irrelevant,” Madden said at the time. “I’m always the kind of person that does the right thing and keeps my side of the street clean.”

    Looks like Travis Kelce may have found his good luck charm in Taylor Swift.

    The Kansas City Chief tight end, 34, has produced more than twice the yards received when Swift was in attendance, 34, according to a graphic shown by CBS during the Sunday, October 22, game versus the Los Angeles Chargers. When Swift was in the bleachers, Kelce gained 99 yards per game versus 46.5 when he’s “left to his own devices,” (a not-so-subtle reference to her song “Anti-Hero”).

    Swift has made an appearance at four of Kelce’s NFL games this season. The “Lover” singer first attended a game at Arrowhead Stadium when the Chiefs played the Chicago Bears in September, where she made her connection public with Kelce.

    With Swift in the stands, the Chiefs have taken home the win every time — winning 41-10 against the Bears, 23-20 versus the New York Jets, 19-8 against the Denver Broncos and 31-17 versus the Chargers.

    Since her debut, the NFL has made Swift a focal point of its coverage. After a so-called “media frenzy” surrounded her appearances, the Thursday Night Football production team even had a meeting to discuss their plans ahead of the Broncos game.

    “Our crew talked about it this morning,” sports broadcaster Al Michaels, who works with Prime Video and NBC Sports for Thursday Night Football, said prior to the game earlier this month. “You can’t make a sideshow the show. The vast majority of the audience are tuning in to watch a football game. There are people, I don’t know how many, it could be a sizable number, but it’s certainly not a majority, that if you trained the camera on her all night long, they’d be satisfied with that. This is not what we’re doing [sic] to do.”

    Michaels, 78, said that the network planned on doing “everything in moderation” regarding showing Swift during the game.

    “There might be an appropriate shot or a couple. I don’t know what the number is going to be,” he told the outlet. “If Kelce scores six touchdowns, who the hell knows what we’re going to do. But for the most part, just in moderation. The game is still the important element here, by far. That’s our thought. After that, you sort of make it, one of my favorite words, ‘farcical.’”

    The move to showcase Swift during these games has caught the attention of celebrities including Kelly Clarkson, who compared the coverage to watching The Real Housewives.

    “It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now,” Clarkson, 41, said during an October 20 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

    After making their romance known, the pair have been spotted out to dinner twice in New York City and even made surprise cameos on Saturday Night Live earlier this month.

    A source told Us Weekly that Swift is “really happy and excited” about her new relationship with Kelce. While they haven’t said they’re in love yet, the insider said her friends think they’re “heading in that direction.”

    “She’s at the relationship stage where she looks forward to seeing him, getting calls from him, spending time with him,” the source told Us. “She has butterflies in her stomach and she hasn’t had that in a while. She feels safe and comfortable around him physically and emotionally.”

    A source exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month that Patrick and Brittany, who tied the knot in March 2022, have been “huge fans” of Swift” — and even attended her Eras Tour in Kansas City in July. (Kelce also attended the concert, where he attempted and failed to give the “Cruel Summer” singer his number via a friendship bracelet.)

    “Brittany is thrilled to be building a genuine friendship with Taylor. They’ve hung out a couple of times and have grown fairly close in a short period of time,” the insider told Us. “Brittany thinks Taylor is so sweet, and down to earth, and they get along really great.”
