Like I said above, skin tints aren’t normally my thing. There are a select few that I like, but even then, I tend to wear a bit of concealer underneath because they just don’t offer the amount of coverage that I like. As someone who struggles with acne, hyperpigmentation, and texture, skin tints can sometimes accentuate that and merely put a sheer coating over it. I tried this one out in the hope that I would find a winner and could potentially ditch the foundation.
U Beauty’s definitely does what it says—it’s extremely hydrating and breathable, so I really liked that aspect. It’s also really easy to blend into the skin and can definitely be built up, but I found that it wasn’t groundbreaking enough to change my mind about skin tints. I still wore a bit of concealer with this formula, which helped, but I think the coverage was just a tad too sheer for me. Granted, I only gave it a test for a day, so maybe I’ll find that I really love it after building up coverage another time.
Overall, though, it’s definitely one of the best skin tints I’ve used, and the formula is creamy and lightweight. If you are really into skin tints, I would definitely recommend this one, as it offers a great color match and gives your skin a nice dewy appearance. With a little bronzer, it even adds subtle warmth and radiance to the skin.

Below, I’m sharing 20 products I can’t recommend enough as a beauty director who tries everything. From a soothing, redness-banishing face mask that’s perfect for winter to a candle that causes pure pandemonium every time I light it, I’ve got you covered. Keep scrolling!
High street beauty is booming, ensuring that covetable makeup and purse-friendly prices can happily coexist. Now H&M Beauty has joined the conversation with a collection that is designed to be easy to use and coax out your creative side.
“The new collection is bringing backstage expertise to the masses but it’s also great for artists,” declares Raoúl Alejandre, the makeup artist the Swedish high street brand has enlisted to bring its new line to life. “These are things that I use in my own kit and the formulas are made in Italy so the standard of the actual product is really high. If you’re spending $8 on a product it should have colour payoff. It should be high performing. We’re in a space now where having something that’s not pigmented or something that’s not going to last is just not an excuse anymore.”
The 32-piece collection of vegan makeup products includes bronzers, lipsticks that are refillable as well as cream and powder iterations of highlighter and blusher. Notably, all are pleasingly priced under £10 and are formulated with a roster of skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and vitamin E.
When I caught up with Raoúl at the global launch in London, he told me that draping is his signature technique and one that he uses on his celebrity clients – an impressive roster that includes Zendaya, Nicola Peltz-Brooklyn and GLAMOUR cover star Willow Smith.
“For a long time it was just with blusher, draping with a pinkier colour on the lids or using a transitional colour that moved onto the temple and the cheek,” he says, adding that he loves a monochromatic look using cream blusher first on the eyes and cheeks before going in with a powder blusher and a big fluffy brush to set it.
“But now, it’s all about bronzer,” he says. Raoúl prefers to place bronzer high on the cheekbone rather than in the hollow as it doesn’t look so harsh or drag the face down. “If you don’t have anything transitioning from the eye or the temple, it just feels like a line. If you want that contoured effect, use a brush that’s a little bit more tapered to create that definition. But it’s also nice to use those old-school big fluffy brushes and just start buffing what’s left over from the cheekbone upwards so that it starts creating this beautiful grading effect.”
As well as doing your draping before applying brow gel or mascara – “you don’t want any dustiness” – he also recommends taking what’s left on the brush down the neck and behind the ears to keep the colour consistent.
A key feature of the new H&M Beauty offering is a mascara wardrobe comprising four different products, whether you’re looking for a full-volume flutter to mimic falsies or your fallback position is separated and lengthened lashes.
I actually noticed that my lashes were already a bit longer after one week of using this. I’d say that’s pretty impressive! What I really love about this formula is that it contains growth factors, biotin, and peptides which help strengthen and promote healthy growth. I also like that it doesn’t include prostaglandins, which aren’t necessarily considered unsafe, but they can cause some interesting side effects like eye irritation, skin discoloration, and even an eye color change. So many lash serums on the market use them (the main one being Latisse) so it’s just something to look out for if you have sensitive skin or eyes.
Anyway, I have to say, this lash serum gets my approval 100%. Although I haven’t been using it long enough to share any dramatic before and after photos, I’ve definitely seen noticeable growth in just a few weeks which is impressive. It also doesn’t irritate my eye area which can be really sensitive. The price tag is a bit high at $50, but it’s actually still cheaper than a lot of other formulas on the market and you can get it without a prescription (unlike Latisse). If your lashes could use a bit of extra help, I say give this one a go. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
I love high-end makeup as much as the next beauty editor does, but if I can find an affordable gem that revivals my $50+ formulas, best believe I’m never letting it go. Case in point, E.l.f.’s new addition to its family of lip products, the Glow Reviver Lip Oil ($8). I don’t always love lipstick; I much prefer lip oils and lip glosses, so I knew instantly this would be right up my alley. My ride-or-die formulas in this department include the Lawless Forget the Filler Lip Plumping Gloss ($26) and Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil ($20), but I also love the very luxurious (and expensive) Dior Glow Lip Oil ($40).
If you’re also a fan of the viral Dior oil, you’re definitely going to want to snag one of these shades from E.l.f. What I love most about Dior’s particular lip oil is that it’s incredibly glossy, hydrating, and plumps your lips without being sticky or too much for everyday wear. It’s a formula that’s truly hard to top, but this new option from E.l.f. is giving it a run for its money.
It provides a glassy finish, contains nourishing and hydrating ingredients, and enhances your lips’ natural color. It also comes in a variety of shades that act as the perfect sheer gloss or can be a topper for a lipstick if you love a richer color on your lips. Last but *certainly* not least, it’s just $8, so you can snag at least four shades, and it will still cost less than one $40 lip oil from Dior. Honestly, I love my Dior lip oil more than anything, so I definitely won’t be throwing that formula out. But to have a variety of colors around that look just as gorgeous and cost a fraction of the price? Sign me up!
This lip oil from Gisou is a bit summery since it has such a radiant finish, but it’s perfect for trying out the honey lips trend on TikTok.
Clarins’s lip oil comes in a variety of rich shades and contains three super hydrators—jojoba, hazelnut, and sweetbriar rose oil.
Squalane, raspberry oil, and cloudberry oil in this formula keep your lips extra plump and juicy.
I love that this gloss from Kosas comes in creamy, lighter shades that are closer to champagne but also boasts a few bolder shades like magenta.
Saie can do no wrong in my eyes. The brand’s Hydrobounce Serum Foundation ($40) and Glowy Super Gel ($28) are forever favorites of mine. Next up on my list of things to try from the brand is this High-Shine Lip Gloss Oil.
If you’re a makeup minimalist, Merit has every simple staple you’d need. This tinted lip oil is perfect for everyday wear and comes in the best warm, neutral shades.
Herbal extracts, meadowfoam seed oil, and hyaluronic acid plump the lips and provide super long-lasting hydration in this formula from Ilia.
U Beauty’s lip treatment is unique in the way that it plumps and contours the lips, giving them a 3D pillow effect for natural enhancement with a pop of color and gloss.
This cushiony lip product from Haus Labs is a gloss, balm, and treatment all in one! It provides a gorgeous sheer wash of color and is never sticky or too glossy on the lips.
For the majority of my life, I have firmly been a concealer only type of person. I wear foundation here and there for special occasions, but most of the time, I’m putting dots of concealer on my face. No, it’s not because I have perfect skin—I have a face full of freckles, and I like to let them shine as much as possible. For that reason, I need concealers to do the most: look like skin, be crease-free, blend seamlessly, have a radiant finish, and match my skin tone to a T.
Needless to say, most concealers don’t fit the bill. In fact, I rarely take my chances on new concealer—I’ve been a die-hard fan of Glossier’s Stretch Concealer for years. When I learned about Lancôme’s new Care & Glow Serum Concealer, however, I decided to take a chance and try it out, particularly after talking to Lancôme’s national makeup artist, Sheika Daleyas.
Lip plumpers are currently having as big a moment as the volume they promise to impart. From lip glosses to lip balms and even serum-like concoctions and lip pencils, there’s no shortage of impressive products on the market to choose from if you want a more pillowy pout.
The good news is that lip plumpers have evolved enough for them not to cause an unpleasant burning sensation or irritation. You’ll rarely find aggressive old-school ingredients such as cayenne pepper or cinnamon in newer formulas, and even those that still lean on mint do so in a much more subtle, skin-friendly way.
Hyaluronic acid is the ingredient du jour, making lip plumpers moisturising, gentle and effective, as well as suitable for dry, tender skin. Oils are also popular as a shiny finish reflects light, giving the illusion of fullness.
How you use lip plumpers has also moved on, too, allowing you to use them as a finishing touch or as a way to prep your lips for your favourite lipstick and lip liner.
To be clear, though, lip plumpers are not an alternative for lip fillers and it’s unlikely that you’ll get similar tumescent results. Although they’re designed to boost blood flow to the lips – usually via a gentle minty flavour – the result is temporary at best.
Even those powered by skincare ingredients, including collagen and peptides, make your lips appear slightly fuller over time but this is no way comparable to what you would get with cosmetic lip-enhancing procedures.

It’s also worth noting that you shouldn’t feel like you need to make your lips appear bigger. But we also understand that when it comes to your body (or lips in this case), you are the only person whose opinion matters most. So if you want to embrace plumped-up lips – go for it.
To help you make a more informed decision, we’ve put together a full edit of all the best lip plumpers available. As committed beauty testers, we made sure to include a variety of different formulas that meet the needs of varying budgets and preferences, too. So, from best sellers to new releases, hopefully there will be something on this list for everyone.
Dark circles are difficult to cover due to their deep blue-purple tones. That’s why a color-correcting product can help. (This one is editor approved.) They counter the blue-purple tones, essentially canceling them out so your concealer doesn’t have to work as hard. However, if you don’t have a color corrector or want to keep things one step simpler, we got you.
Full-coverage concealers can be helpful. They contain the most pigment, which means they’re able to cover dark circles more easily than lighter formulas. With that being said, you don’t necessarily need a full-coverage concealer to do the trick. Sometimes, a light- to medium-coverage concealer can still cover dark circles if they have a light-reflecting quality. This minimizes the shadowed look of the under-eyes for a brighter, more wide-awake appearance. Basically, it all comes down to the texture and formula you prefer, and we have recommendations for both.
Apparently, everything old is new again. That’s great news when it comes to some of our favorite trends like ’90s minimalism and ’70s makeup, but unfortunately, it also means the return of some less savory trends, like low-rise jeans and skinny eyebrows. The latest beauty trend that’s gained enough momentum to make it to Sofia Richie Grainge’s TikTok page? Concealer lips.
Before you scoff and exit this article, hear me out. Concealer lips of the 2000s were unequivocally bad. For anyone who doesn’t remember the trend, we used to cover our lips in concealer before leaving the house (yes, really). This was one trend we were all very happy to say goodbye to, but it looks like it might be back—with a twist.
Richie Grainge’s interpretation of concealer lips is a far cry from the allover lip looks we used to do. Instead, Richie Grainge uses concealer as a finishing touch to “pumpkin spice lips” by putting a dab of concealer in the center of her lips as a sort of highlighter. The result is an eye-catching ombré lip that we just might have to try ourselves—concealer and all. Keep reading for every product Richie Grainge used.
With this experience in mind, plus a deep love for nostalgic 90s beauty looks, Shaik explored something new—launching her own brand. “When I was 22 I knew I wanted to create a beauty brand,” she says.”It’s been a passion of mine for so many years! I’ve created Pinterest mood boards, spoken to influential expert estheticians, and researched what works for aging skin. My aim is to create SALA as the most trusted beauty brand with clean and cruelty-free formulas sourced from Korean beauty labs…I want my customers to feel happy, confident, and alive!”
The brand’s first product, which just launched last month, is a modern mascara that pays homage to the iconic 90s lash look of supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and more. She says it’s the “perfect” mascara and one she “can’t live without.” It might be the brand’s first and only product for now, but we can expect more where that came from…In the meantime, we’re shopping for all Shaik’s best beauty recommendations.
If there’s one thing about Kim Kardashian that we can agree on, it’s that she is serious about her business. Sure, you could argue over whether she’s a feminist icon or the embodiment of unrealistic ideals until the cows come home, but one thing you cannot deny is her entrepreneurial spirit.
I’m biased – I love Kim with my whole soul – but even before she burst onto the reality television scene on E!’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians, she was busy running Dash, a clothing boutique she co-founded with her sisters Kourtney and Khloe in 2006, while also working as a personal stylist for the likes of Paris Hilton.
Since then, she’s built a global empire that spans multiple industries, from gaming to beauty to publishing, amassing billions of dollars of revenue (Forbes declared her a billionaire in 2021) and over 700 international trademarks. Oh, and all the while, she was bringing up a family of four children. Surely, that’s pretty impressive by anyone’s terms, and especially a lot for one woman to achieve before her milestone 43rd birthday?
However, that’s not to say she hasn’t done some dubious deals along the way, and there’s no doubt that some of her business ventures have been better than others. Take the Kardashian Kard in partnership with MasterCard that Kim and her sisters launched in 2010 – a preloaded debit card that was swiftly taken off the market after criticism of sky-high fees. Then there was Kimono, the predecessor to Kim’s shapewear brand SKIMS, which caused global outrage due to the appropriation of the Japanese word.
However, as any great entrepreneur would, Kim has proved herself adaptable, tenacious and resilient, learning from her failures and coming back stronger, with SKIMS reaching a whopping $ 4 billion valuation this year. Seriously impressive.
Furthermore, Kim gave private equity investing a go, joining forces with experienced private equity executive Jay Sammons to start Skky Partners, a new firm focussing on media and consumer investments in 2022. With her billion-dollar business acumen, it makes sense. So, without further ado, we’ve rounded all of her business ventures up and ranked them in order of greatness because, quite frankly, it’s not bad for a girl “with no talent”.
I reached out to celebrity makeup artist and creative Misha Shahzada for the scoop on how to pull of the perfect, modernized 70s-inspired look. “1970’s makeup offered a range of versatility–from bronzed skin and glossy lips to bold statement eyes and lower lashes,” she explains. “Now being 50 years later this the current products we have on the market, it’s easier to take bits and pieces of the 70s inspired looks with a simplified twist.” The ‘clean girl,’ dewy makeup look that we’ve all fallen in love with can be given a throwback treatment with the addition of a bold eye or a full beat finished with a glossy lip. When creating a retro makeup look for her clientele, Shahzada also takes hints from the era’s pop culture icons featured in film like Priscilla Presley (portrayed by Olivia DeJonge) in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biographical drama Elvis.
For Shahzada, focusing on one element of the face at a time is the key to keeping the look modern. Skin care takes precedent over all else to create a glowy (almost glossy) base with the help of Bubble Skincare’s Deep Dive Exfoliating Mask followed by a pump of their Slam Dunk Hydrating Moisturizer and a few drops of their bestselling Float On Soothing Facial Oil. With the skin left hydrated and dewy, additional coverage is only required where needed. “When it comes to skincare, the more consistent you are, the better,” she says. “Avoid over prepping your skin all at once, find out what your skin can tolerate and build from there.”
Creating the rest of a modernized 70s look is simple. For the eyes, Shazada opts for a vibrant blue shade (her favorite is from Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Smoky Eye Brick in Royal) all over the lid; focusing especially on the inner corners. Next, she applies a black kajal eyeliner to the top and bottom lash line to create an elongated wing that she buffs out as the works. To finish, she recommends opting for some strip lashes or adding a few coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes for a bold, doe-eyed look.

What was the inspiration behind Magnetic Eye Color?
Taylor Frankel: We felt that traditional powder eye shadows and palettes were intimidating for those who aren’t makeup artists, challenging to travel with, and messy. Our goal was to create high-performance eye shadow sticks that were multitasking, on-the-go, and most importantly, easy to use.
What makes the formula unique?
TF: The formula is cream-based and easy to blend, highly pigmented, and multitasking. It’s a three-in-one eye shadow, eye liner, and eye primer.
Should you prime your lids before using this product?
Kevin Kodra: There is no need to prime your lids beforehand as these cream formulas are all-day wear and waterproof.
What are your best application tips?
KK: I like to apply them directly to the eyelids and blend with a cream-shadow brush. You want to blend quickly as they set within 30–60 seconds! For maximum pigment, I love to apply a sheer layer and continue to build from there… These pencils are so easy to use, so my go-to tip is that you don’t need a ton of tools or precision. The application tips are simple: draw and blend.
When applied correctly, setting powder can give any makeup look an airbrushed finish. But if you’re like me and setting powders just age you and make you look dry, just try Pore Eclipse. It’s totally weightless, which I appreciate since some powders can be too heavy, and provides a smooth, matte finish without drying out my skin. The great thing about Milk is that the brand often includes extra skincare ingredients to give your complexion a boost.
This particular formula is packed with lentil extract to help absorb excess oil on the surface of your skin, bakuchiol to smooth texture and fine lines, and niacinamide to minimize the appearance of pores. I think the addition of sodium hyaluronate is also what helps keep your skin from getting too dry throughout the day. I was worried about it settling into fine lines or emphasizing my laugh lines, but I wore it for over six hours and didn’t seem to have an issue. It really blurs and smooths the skin without looking too over the top.
I’m not saying this product will work for absolutely everyone because everyone’s skin is different, but I will say that it worked well for me and didn’t make my normally dehydrated skin run for the hills. Even if my glowing review isn’t enough, spend a few minutes perusing the customer reviews on Sephora. Overall, the powder has a 4.7/5-star rating and over 330 reviews. An overwhelming amount gave it five stars. You can shop it below.
Powder still not your thing? No worries! Keep scrolling and check out a few of my favorite makeup products for a flawless base.
If you’re ready to finally give soap brows a try, follow these steps below that Mellinger swears by to help achieve them. All you’ll need is a clear, glycerin-based soap, wax, or gel and an easy-to-use spoolie to whip your brows into shape in minutes—no brow-lamination appointment required. The trick is to pay special attention to coating all hairs, making sure none go without a layer of soap paste for a smooth finish.
Step 1. If you’re creating them using soap rather than a wax or gel, opt for a clear, glycerin-based soap. This will ensure there is no color or white cast transferred to the brow.
Step 2. Avoid getting the spoolie too wet. “You don’t want to make the paste too slippery or sudsy, or it won’t stay in place,” explains Mellinger.
Step 3. Don’t dig into the soap too much with your spoolie, as it will make the paste too thick. A paste that is too thick and dry won’t stick well.
Step 4. After you’ve achieved your ideal shape, try carefully smoothing it out with your finger for an extra-laminated look.
Mellinger also happens to keep a few products in her kit at all times to create the perfect soap brow look, starting with West Barn Co’s Soap Brows Extra Strong and Prep Mist. “This is my favorite for my kit, as it’s small and comes in a tin—very kit friendly.” For an affordable option, Melligner uses a disposable spoolie with Pears’ classic Pure Gentle Soap. Is soap not your thing? No problem. The makeup artist also uses the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze to give a sleek, laminated effect to even the unruliest of brows (mine included).
Like any makeup look, practice makes perfect! Soap brows are a simple way to level up any makeup look by adding some extra dimension, fullness, and shape where your face needs it the most. I like to think of it as an easy, five-second face-lift using the simplest tools you can imagine. Read on to discover the beauty editor– and makeup artist–approved soap-brow products I’ve been loving lately. Fair warning: Once you get hooked on these, there’s a good chance you’ll never want to go back to your old eyebrow routine.
To learn more about the vision and development process for these lip gloss oils, I got in touch with Saie’s Vice President of Product Development Colleen Timpone. “As with every Saie product, there was a long product development process with Glossybounce to ensure that luxury, quality and clean ingredients weren’t compromised,” she began. “When we set out to develop Glossybounce, we wanted to create a clean lip gloss oil that was the perfect mix between a lip gloss, a lip oil, and a balm.” Their goal was to capture the wonderful benefits of each; capturing their cushiony feel, comfort, hydration, high-shine, slip, wear, and sheer color.
It’s no wonder lip gloss oils were the #1 most requested product from the brand. Known for their unique ability to create lightweight, skincare-infused makeup using performance formulas as well as sustainable packaging and practices, Saie has set a new standard for multitasking makeup that’s clean. It was so important to us that we did not formulate with any silicone or petroleum,” says Timpone. “You might notice that our shade Kiss (clear) has a slight pink tint. That is because when you do not use petroleum, the base of the formula is slightly milky/yellow versus crystal clear.”
It’s almost that time of year again: holiday sale shopping. For those of us who love a good deal, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales are two things we look forward to and save up for every year. This year, Tarte is giving us an early preview of its incredible Cyber Monday sale.
From 12 a.m. on October 15 until 3 a.m. on October 18, nearly everything on Tarte’s website is 40% off using the code CYBER at checkout. Before you have time to wonder, yes, that includes the brand’s iconic Shape Tape Concealer, Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump, Sculpt Tape Contour, and more. Most of these products now clock in at under $20 each, which is a major steal that won’t happen often.
After scrolling through the entire site, I’ve figured out exactly what’s worth buying during this flash sale. Keep reading for a beauty editor’s Tarte-centric shopping list—I promise you won’t be disappointed.
There’s a school of thought that I simply can’t subscribe to: the idea that you should never wear red lipstick on a date. As a red-lipstick devotee, I will wear red lipstick for any situation, including and not limited to a date. I do see the predicament, however—red lipstick is a bold choice, and it may not be ideal to end up with it smeared all over your (or your date’s) face.
At least one person agrees with me—Taylor Swift. This weekend, Swift and rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce stepped out for date night in New York City. For their Saturday-night date, Swift went with her signature red lipstick. If you were one of the many people in various comment sections talking about how you could never wear red lipstick on a date, I get it.
When I’m doing my makeup, I act like I’m filming a Get Ready With Me-style TikTok. I introduce my products to the nonexistent camera and explain my application process to an imaginary audience. My views are always skyrocketing. My subscribers always begging for more. Just ask my fans: I’m the next big influencer
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been watching makeup tutorials since the YouTube days. Yes, when Jeffree Star’s honest beauty reviews were all the rage and people still used the James Charles x Morphe palette. NikkieTutorials and Jaclyn Hill were go-to makeup artists filming “easy” eyeshadow looks that never quite looked the same on me.
Now, the format has been replicated on TikTok. We doom-scroll through TikTok to consume 1-10 minute videos of everyone plugging new products and delving into makeup secrets. This content format is an even bigger marketing tool than we could have ever imagined— one used by celebrities, brand owners, and musicians flock to connect with new fan bases and become the Next Big Trend.
Times may change, but the goal stays the same: achieving celebrity-level makeup. How can I get the cheekbones of Kim Kardashian and the Kylie Jenner ombre blush? How do I make it look like I got my makeup airbrushed on my face?
Enter Patrick Ta: the longtime celebrity makeup artist for the likes of Bella and Gigi Hadid, the entire Kar-Jenner clan, Chrissy Teigen, Emily Ratajkowski, Shay Mitchell, and more. In 2019, after about six years as a MUA in Los Angeles, Ta launched PATRICK TA BEAUTY.
What is PATRICK TA BEAUTY?
Using formulas that are both good for your skin and perfect for the red carpet in inclusive shade ranges, Patrick Ta has created the beauty brand of your dreams. His makeup is the most viral brand of 2023, with his cream-over-powder blush method taking the world by storm.
I love a good celeb makeup artist’s brand: Mario Dedivanovic’s Makeup By Mario, Patrick Starrr’s ONE/SIZE, Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury, the list goes on. So I don’t know why it took so long for me to do a full haul of Patrick Ta, especially since it feels like everyone has already tried it.
And unlike many celeb brands, it’s not just snake oil in luxury packaging. You actually get your money’s worth with his products — which often come with a powder and cream in one tin. Every influencer out there has raved about Patrick Ta, and for good reason. He even has his own TikTok to show the best ways to use his products. But is it all too good to be true? It was time I tried it for myself.
Not enough is said about this foundation and setting powder duo. It’s a full-coverage foundation in a pan, which already minimizes my waste — and there’s a protective cover over the creme foundation so it’s mess-free. Good enough to cover my imperfections while giving my skin this diffused, airbrushed look…and no primer is needed.

Nothing excites me more than contour and bronzer in one product. Contour for sculpting, bronzer for warming the face-up. Easy for beginners, this duo is all you need for a facelift.
