  • A leather jacket is the savviest item to have in your wardrobe this autumn

The best leather jackets – real or vegan – are the ones that you only have to buy once; that you can hang in your wardrobe knowing each time you take it out it’ll look just as new as the day you bought it, and that you can dress up or down.

The blanket ‘wear with everything’ statement is a cliché, we agree, but when it comes to leather jackets, nothing could be truer. Thrown over the shoulders of your party dress at a function, paired with your best jeans on the weekend, or styled as part of your smart-casual dress code at the office, leather jackets are the outerwear you’re either already obsessed with or are about to be.

Wondering how to style a leather jacket? We’ve got you.

    SKIP TO:

What are the top styles of leather jackets to buy?

    1. The classic biker

Likely the first image that comes to mind when you think of a ‘leather jacket’ is the classic biker style motorcycle jacket. Created in the ’20s and made popular in the ’50s thanks to Hollywood actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean, leather biker jackets are usually shaped to a relaxed or oversized fit for that androgynous effect, but for a more modern style, look for slim silhouettes.

    2. The leather bomber

Your best bomber jacket, but leather. Elasticated at the cuffs and hem, a leather bomber jacket creates the same shape as a puffer jacket but (most times) without the padding. They’re perfect for wearing atop knitwear due to their roomy nature.

    3. The leather blazer

Want to wear a leather jacket to work but need it to be smarter than the usual offerings? Opt for a leather blazer – the cleaner-cut sister of the suede jackets you’ve seen everyone wearing recently. The two below from ALIGNE and ASOS DESIGN provide a flattering shape too, thanks to clever waist details.

    4. The leather aviator

Not to be confused with a bomber jacket, which shares the same history, the aviator jacket (or flight jacket) was designed to keep pilots warm in open-cockpit planes during World War I, evolving from heavy leather with sheepskin/shearling linings to more streamlined designs in World War II. Today, we’ve seen everyone from Cara Delevingne to editors at fashion week wearing them.

  • Leatherworkers museum gains nonprofit status

    Leatherworkers museum gains nonprofit status

PEABODY — The Peabody Leatherworkers Museum hopes to use its newfound status as a nonprofit to better preserve the city’s past as the world’s leather capital.

The museum was granted nonprofit status about two weeks ago, allowing the site to apply for more grants and turn to other sources of funding for special projects. It will continue to be partially funded by the city, museum Director Dick St. Pierre said.

A new advisory group made up of past members of the leather industry and those who have family ties to it will work to secure new funds. Already, the museum is seeing support from several leather companies and leatherworker organizations from around the country.

“We’re trying to branch out,” he said.

Located next to the George Peabody House Museum on Washington Street, which St. Pierre also oversees, the museum features artifacts and photographs from Peabody tanneries that have long since closed.

On display are machines and the leather goods they produced, and samples of what leather looks like throughout the leathermaking process. There’s also records, signs and posters from local tanneries showing the familiar names of families who came up through the industry years ago.

Through new funding sources, St. Pierre hopes to start a speaker series featuring former Peabody leatherworkers and to digitize the museum’s records of tanneries and leather transactions, some of which are well over 100 years old.

“People don’t realize that leatherworking in Peabody goes back to 1635 in farmers’ homes,” he said. “If we don’t work to preserve that local history, it’s going to be lost.”

The museum, which first opened in 2001, aims to celebrate the people of this industry, too.

On Saturday, the museum will host its second annual open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A rain date is set for Oct. 5.

The event will feature speakers from the city’s leather industry and food from Greece, Poland, Portugal, Italy and other cultures that made up a notable amount of the leathermaking workforce in the area.

Tina Manolakos and her family were Greek immigrants working in Peabody’s tanneries decades ago. Today, she runs an education program for the city’s fourth-graders at the museum that was introduced last year.

Manolakos takes students through the leathermaking process when they come to the museum on field trips. They watch a film that shows footage of former tanneries when they were still in business, and the kids can see, smell and feel the leather products that helped Peabody grow into what it is today.

“I want them to know that this was an international effort,” she said, pointing to strings of different countries’ flags on display outside of the museum. “That’s why we have our flags here, to represent the different nationalities that made this happen.”

Students of all ages are encouraged to attend Saturday’s open house, St. Pierre said. The event will have activities for families, including a caricaturist on site to draw visitors, in addition to access to the museum.

  • This Is the Winter Trend Practically Every Celebrity Is Obsessed With

This Is the Winter Trend Practically Every Celebrity Is Obsessed With

This is going to be difficult, but I will refrain from making any Matrix comparisons in this story (oops, does that count?). Celebrities are fully embracing a dramatic, kind of uncomfortable trend this winter, and what it lacks in comfort it makes up for in coolness. Leather clothing—real or faux—has become a favorite trend this season of everyone from Rihanna to Taylor Swift to Kylie Jenner. And I’m not talking about just a basic leather jacket—I’m talking about significant pieces of clothing such as a trench coat or a dress.

A few things that I’ve noticed about the dressed-up trend is that black is the leather color of choice, and it’s usually worn after dark. If you, too, want to make leather clothing part of your wardrobe this winter, scroll on to see how stylish celebrities are styling the trend, and shop leather pieces both genuine and faux.

  • I Love The Row, But I’m on a Budget—These Chic Under-$200 Finds Fit the Bill

I Love The Row, But I’m on a Budget—These Chic Under-$200 Finds Fit the Bill

Having run the Olsen twins–dedicated blog Olsens Anonymous for over a decade, I am well-versed in their style evolution. For some years now, both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been donning outfits almost exclusively with pieces from their own line, The Row. It’s no surprise that the brand has a cult following—the minimal pieces are all painfully chic and can easily be mixed and matched, making for a practical, understated wardrobe. The only issue is The Row is purely aspirational for most due to the hefty price tags on all the pieces.

Thankfully, re-creating the look and vibe of the popular collections can be done in a much more affordable way. While the same luxe fabrics and tailoring may be hard to acquire without the budget, it is easy to find elevated basics and sleek shoes and bags that are in the same vein. Not to mention, we have been graced with nearly identical dupes of some of The Row’s trendiest pieces. Think chic button-down shirts, smart trousers, classic heels, oversize sweaters, luxe-looking shoes, and much more. Keep scrolling to shop 30 pieces inspired by The Row that are under $200.

  • Pedro Pascal Wore a Big Suit (But No Shirt) on SNL

Pedro Pascal Wore a Big Suit (But No Shirt) on SNL

During the first half of 2023, Pedro Pascal was inescapable. He headlined two of the biggest shows on TV (The Mandalorian and The Last of Us), co-starred in a steamy Pedro Almodóvar short with fellow internet-darling hunk Ethan Hawke (Strange Way of Life), and then proceeded to promote the living daylights out of those projects in an ever-escalating string of Fashion Daddy fits—all culminating in an unforgettable pair of thigh-baring Valentino shorts on the Met Gala red carpet.

Following that Twitter-imploding leg moment, though, Pascal has been largely out of the public eye in recent months. Which is why, upon his reemergence on SNL this past weekend, the 48-year-old star brought out his menswear fastball to remind everyone he’s still at his blush-inducing best. Popping up for a quick cameo during host Bad Bunny’s monologue, Pascal sported one of the most iconic ensembles in all of fashion—a breezy pleated Issey Miyake suit—only revved up via a clash of electric hues and an alluring lack of a shirt. Combined with Bad Bunny’s own oversized double-breasted number, it was about as compelling a case for non-traditional tailoring as you’re ever likely to see.

  • Goodbye, Stains—These 30 Chic Nordstrom Pieces are Stylish and Easy to Clean

Goodbye, Stains—These 30 Chic Nordstrom Pieces are Stylish and Easy to Clean

This story goes out to my spill-prone queens. There is nothing more frustrating than getting a stain on your clothes and not being able to get it out. As a mother of two little ones (and with my own fair share of spills), I battle stains on the daily. Through this humbling practice, I have learned a few things along the way like what fabrics are the easiest to clean and the best cleaning duo for getting out even the toughest of stains—I am happy to share my learnings with you below.

When it comes to easy-cleaning fabrics, there are both natural and synthetic options that you will want to reach for on your next shopping trip. Cotton and wool will always be great natural picks. As for synthetic fabrics, polyester reigns supreme and is often used to create fleece and faux-leather pieces. On any of these fabrics, your best bet in combating a stain is to treat it before it has a chance to set. First, gently remove any debris. Next, run cool or warm water over the area and go in with my trusty duo: vinegar and clear dish soap.

I like to keep a small spray bottle with a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water to spray directly on stains, drip on some dish soap (a little goes a long way), and then I take a toothbrush that I keep reserved for laundry and begin to scrub the area—You can scrub harder on cotton pieces but need to be gentler on more textured fabrics like wool or fleece. Add more of the spray mix or soap as you see fit and feel free to rinse in cool or warm water as needed to check your progress. From there, launder as usual.

With all this in mind, I rounded up 30 pieces from Nordstrom that are not only stylish but easy to clean. Here’s to stress-free laundry in your near future.

  • Rachel Sennott’s Leather Corset and Miniskirt Combo Features Zippers All Over

Rachel Sennott’s Leather Corset and Miniskirt Combo Features Zippers All Over

Rachel Sennott has already made her mark on Hollywood thanks to her roles in “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” “Bottoms,” and “The Idol.” Now Sennott is making waves in the fashion world, too. On Aug. 10, the rising star walked the red carpet at Variety’s 2023 Power of Young Hollywood event wearing a leather corset and matching micro miniskirt.

Sennott’s outfit is from designer Dion Lee, with the corset retailing at $1,710 and the paired miniskirt at $1,310 at Nordstrom. The actor’s edgy ensemble features an abundance of zippers and buttons, creating a distressed biker jacket look from top to bottom. In addition to the fasteners, the unique style also showcases multiple shades of brown mixed in with the silver details from the zips and buttons.

Even though the overall outfit is fairly monochromatic, Sennott still stood out in a crowd full of Hollywood up-and-comers like Sydney Sweeney, Josie Totah, and Skai Jackson. This is thanks in part to the form-fitting nature of her matching look, as well as the instantly cool vibes the bikeresque ensemble radiated.

Since Sennott’s outfit already included tons of detailing, the “Bottoms” star didn’t add any major accessories. Instead, she finished the look off with a pair of open-toe animal print heels. As for makeup, she appeared to go for a minimalistic look. Additionally, the actor showed off a straight, shorter hairstyle versus the long curly locks she usually wears.

Sennott is one of several celebs who are embracing modern corsets. Earlier in August, Selena Gomez showed off a blue corset top as she debated on whether or not she wanted to go out for an evening on the town, and in May, Julia Fox wore a corset made out of neckties. While corsets were once a sign of restraint, their current place in fashion proves even the oldest standbys can be reinvented.

Take a closer look at Sennott’s leather outfit ahead.

  • YSL Bags 101: The Top Styles You’ll Have in Your Closet Forever

YSL Bags 101: The Top Styles You’ll Have in Your Closet Forever

The most important thing to consider when investing in a designer bag is to know the purpose it will have in your life. Do you prefer an everyday carryall? Then maybe the Sac de Jour is for you. If you’re one to throw your bag around and are a bit rougher, then you should probably steer toward the Sac de Jour duffle because it has a zip closure, organizational pockets, and canvas lining.

If you are one to keep your bag organized without the help of added pockets and compartments but need something more spacious to fit a laptop and gym clothes, then maybe the Shopping Tote is right for you. If you’re somebody who likes to show off for a night out, then consider the Classic Monogram Quilted Leather Shoulder Bag, the Loulou, or the Sunset Bag (which is most similar to the wallet on a chain). These differ slightly in depth and style, but they are all perfect for any night out.

If you’re still feeling overwhelmed with options, visit a store and bring everything you’d like to fit inside it. Make sure your accouterments fit comfortably with room to grow, just in case.
