Halloween might have come and gone, but Kendall Jenner channeled a true icon with a look that you can (and should) wear long after All Hallow’s Eve. Dressing as Marilyn Monroe, Jenner chose a slim black turtleneck from Intimissimi. Though many choose to pay homage to Monroe by wearing her famous white halter dress, Jenner looked to another one of the late icon’s outfits by recreating Monroe’s “Life” magazine shoot from 1953, photographed by Alfred Eisenstaedt.

In an Instagram carousel captioned “happy birthday mister president,” Jenner wore a blonde wig, custom diamond drop earrings from Costolo Studio, and fashioned her makeup nearly exactly like the retro bombshell used to, winged eyes and all. Though only barely visible in one Instagram shot, the model styled the classic top with a pair of bright white pixie pants.

Just last March, Jenner wore a boatneck top from the same lingerie design house; her look went viral and completely sold out, so it’s a sure bet that you should shop this turtleneck look now, before you miss your chance.

Keep scrolling to check out Jenner’s classic Halloween look and shop not only her exact Intimissimi black turtleneck, but also others quite similar. Whether you’re looking to channel Monroe, Jenner, or simply shopping for a great cold-weather layer as the temperature begins to drop, you’re bound to find something that works ahead.

“Schitts Creek” actor Emily Hampshire apologizes for Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Halloween costumes

    [ad_1]

“Schitts Creek” actor Emily Hampshire has apologized for dressing up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard with a friend for Halloween.

“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done,” Hampshire said on Instagram. “For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.”

Hampshire dressed as Depp with slicked back hair, while her friend dressed as Heard and held props referencing the graphic testimony given during the Depp-Heard trial. Photos of the costumes Hampshire and her friend wore have been deleted.

The actor, who is best known for playing “Stevie” on “Schitts Creek,” said she regretted her costume choice, saying it made light of the very serious issue of domestic abuse.

“I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe,” she wrote. “Domestic abuse is never, ever funny.”

“These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions,” she added.

Hampshire also promised to “do better” in the future.

Depp and Heard drew attention in 2022 when they sued each other for defamation. Depp sued Heard after she wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post in 2018, calling herself “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard sued Depp when one of his lawyers called her abuse allegations a “hoax.”

    [ad_1]

As one of the fashion industry’s most famous models, with access to any stylish look her heart desires, wardrobe expectations are high for Kendall Jenner — especially on Halloween. But the “Kardashians” star has proven, year after year, that she’s more than up to the challenge. Whether she’s attending a red carpet soiree or just dressing up for an impromptu Instagram photo shoot, Jenner’s Halloween costumes are always impressive and well thought out, from her hairstyle down to her choice of footwear.

Jenner’s job basically requires her to play dress-up, so it stands to reason that she would fully commit to her costume on the most haunting day of the year. She usually collaborates with her stylist on her Halloween fashion moments, sourcing looks from vintage stores and mass retailers alike.

Over the years, she’s transformed herself into everything from a Super Mario Brother — a collaboration with Hailey Bieber — to Karl Lagerfeld, where she made use of a sparkly bodysuit. While she often chooses costume ideas you may recognize, she’s not adverse to more obscure references, dressing up as a goth glamour girl in a latex dress and choker, or an ’80s fashion guru complete with bike shorts and lace, fingerless gloves. Her most memorable look yet was a pink Halloween costume; she dressed up as a Fembot from “Austin Powers” in a poufy lace babydoll dress that stole the spotlight.

No matter which costume direction she chooses, Jenner is committed to being an endless source of costume inspiration. Check out her best Halloween outfits ahead, and get a head start on planning your own costume.

Schitt’s Creek alum Emily Hampshire is apologizing after she and a friend dressed as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for Halloween.

“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done,” Hampshire, 42, wrote in a statement shared via Instagram on Wednesday, November 1. “For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.”

She continued: “I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe. Domestic abuse is never, ever funny. These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future I will do better. I’m so sorry.”

Hampshire deleted photos of herself dressed as Depp, 60, complete with drawn-on tattoos and accessories that referenced the actor’s 2022 defamation case against his ex-wife Heard, 37. Hampshire’s pal feigned tears in the snaps and donned a white top reminiscent of the one Heard wore when she cried on the stand in May 2022.

The Canadian actress also posed with a bottle of wine, which some social media users interpreted as a reference to Heard’s claim that Depp sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle in 2015.

Hailey Bieber staged an epic Halloween costume this year, channeling Carmen Electra’s Drew Decker from the 2000 film “Scary Movie.” Wearing a white lace underwire bra and matching briefs, Bieber posed like Electra did in the unforgettable scene when she was running for her life, being chased through a garden by the movie’s villain. Bieber took to Instagram to share a series of images, captioning the post “SCARY MOVIE 👻👻👻‼️”

Within the carousel, Bieber recreated Electra’s “Scary Movie” look, wearing a white ribbed V-neck cardigan and holding a phone to her ear. Her makeup channels the lustrous trends of the retro decade, with her shoulder-length blond hair perfectly swept in toward her chin.

Though Bieber’s scantily-clad Halloween costume might have been a near-perfect representation of Electra’s early-aughts character, the bra and brief set actually work quite well for everyday wear. And Bieber has made it particularly easy to snag her look, as she tapped Victoria’s Secret to custom make her bright white set.

Bieber’s look is, for now, one-of-a-kind but shop a similar look from Victoria’s Secret, along with other beloved lingerie brands that allow you to steal this iconic style. Travis Kelce Thinks It’s “Cool” Everyone Dressed Up As Him and Taylor Swift For Halloween

    [ad_1]

Travis Kelce thinks it’s “cool” so many people dressed up as him for Halloween.

Travis and brother Jason Kelce, on the new episode of their podcast New Heights released Wednesday, discussed the world at large donning the number 87 on their backs for the holiday, dressing in Travis Kelce’s easily identifiable Kansas City Chiefs jersey, accompanied by blonde-bewigged faux Taylor Swifts in a costumed-salute to pop culture’s most talked-about couple as of late.

“It was cool,” Travis said, calling the holiday “a Kelce Halloween.” He laughed at one fan submission video, calling it “golden” through laughter when a fan dressed as Swift pinned a photo of Travis’ face onto a large map. She put him on the map, get it?

Jason, a center for the Philadelphia Eagles and decked out in a fully sequined Little Mermaid King Triton outfit for the very festive episode, had a slightly less enthusiastic response to costumed tributes to himself and his brother, saying, “It was pretty creepy watching that many people be us, but it was awesome.”

Jason recently expressed concern over the level of attention his brother is getting as a result of his rumored love life, saying he worries that there could be a “threat to his safety” as a result of the interest.

Many people, celebrity and non-celebrity alike, did their best Kelce. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos dressed up as Swift and Travis on Live With Kelly and Mark Tuesday, and on Today, Savannah Guthrie donned a spangled Swift-inspired bodysuit, while her daughter Vale wore a Fearless-era golden beaded dress to join her. Bradley Cooper and ex Irina Shayk wore matching Rocket Raccoon costumes, a nod to Cooper’s voice acting work as the Marvel character, while their daughter reportedly dressed as Swift.

Travis reportedly planned to have a Halloween dinner party with friends and last week promised to reveal his costume, but after a Chiefs loss over the weekend, seemed to have lost his festive spirit and didn’t dress up for the episode or mention how he spent Tuesday evening.

Representatives for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift did not immediately return requests for comment.

  • Best Ways To Detox After Halloween

Best Ways To Detox After Halloween

    [ad_1]

Halloween brings a lot of things to mind, most of them being candy and sweet. October 31 is one of those days where we sort of give ourselves a free pass for overindulging, even if we end up eating all the candy and chocolates within out vicinity. Think of it as a the start to get ready for Thanksgiving. Here are the best ways to detox after Halloween!

    Let go of guilt

So you ate everything within reach and now you’re feeling extremely guilty and sorry for yourself. What happened, happened, and the faster you realize that, the faster you can get back on track. Remember that more holidays are coming, opening the door for plenty of temptations. The sooner you get over your Halloween induced stupor, the better off you’ll be.

    Drink tons of water

Water is always important, but even more so when you’re system is packed with sodium, sugar and your body feels super bloated. Drinking water will help you clean your body and make you feel energized, something you’ll need if you had too much food or alcohol the day before.

    Don’t skip meals

While some might think that skipping meals is a good idea after you’ve eaten so much the day before, most experts would disagree. In order to keep your metabolism moving, you need to eat. It’s also likely that if you ate a lot the night before, you might also feel some pretty intense cravings as soon as you wake up. Aim for meals that contain veggies and good portions of lean protein. Eat as clean as possible but don’t forget to do it.

    Work out

While working out is the best thing you can do to ease your conscience and put your body back on track, moving around also helps a lot. Try to walk and move more than usual, that way stimulating your digestive system and improving your mood.

Take a 5 day sugar break

If your Halloween indulgences weren’t limited to October 31st, celebrity trainer Jackie Warner believes that taking a 5 day sugar break can be the best way to get you back on track. While explaining the program, she says: “By the third day of no sugar, man are these people grumpy. I can totally tell by Wednesday that they have a habit and they’re craving that sugar. And then by Thursday, Friday, which is the fourth and fifth day, they completely stop that craving for sugar.”

Parents on high alert after child gets sick from marijuana-laced candy in the East Bay – NBC Bay Area – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

It was a busy Halloween night across the Bay Area Tuesday and one with special cautions after a child in Alameda County got sick from marijuana-laced candy.

Hundreds of people walked around the Willow Glen neighborhood where visitors felt safe and home owners were happy to accommodate.

“This is the place to come, because the houses are really close together. Everyone gives out candy and you make a big haul,” said Clint Kelly in San Jose.

Some businesses on Lincoln Avenue also offered a safe trick-or-treating alternative and stayed open late to make sure kids got their treats.

Parents say they’re confident trick-or-treating in those neighborhoods, and not concerned about finding cannabis-tainted candy in their kids’ bags.

“Absolutely, 100%,” said Le Hang of San Jose. “It’s family friendly.”

“So far, it’s good. I feel like Willow Glen is a really safe neighborhood to go trick-or-treating in,” said David Trinh of San Jose.

A concern that was highlighted by local police departments earlier this week after an Alameda County child ingested marijuana candy and got sick.

“If a parent thinks a child has eaten something that is infused or suspicious, they should call 911,” said Lieutenant Jason Speckenheuer of the Milpitas Police Department.

To Make These Butterfinger Cookies You Will Need:

    • unbleached all-purpose flourThe base for the cookie dough.
    • baking sodaCreates a gas while baking which helps the cookies rise.
    • fine saltUse either sea salt or pink himalayan.
    • unsalted butter (softened/room temperature) – Lends richness, tenderness and structure to cookies.
    • light brown sugarAdds sweetness and gives the cookies a chewy texture.
    • granulated sugar (white) – Also lends sweetness but will give the cookies a crispy edge.

    • eggsAdd structure, leavening and flavor.
    • butterfinger candy barsYou will need 12 ounces total. More on this below.

chopped butterfinger candy barschopped butterfinger candy bars

For this recipe, I use 12 ounces very coarsely chopped butterfinger candy bars, which is about 6 full-size bars or about 16 “fun size” (not-so-fun-size if you ask me) candy bars.  I chop them into 3/4 to 1 inch pieces because we like big pieces in our cookies and they will break up more when you mix them into the cookie dough.

Preheat your oven to 350℉ (or 180℃).

Line 2 rimmed baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper

    whisk dry ingredientswhisk dry ingredients

Start by measuring 2-1/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon fine salt into a medium mixing bowl.

Use a whisk to stir and combine. Set this off to the side.

butter and sugars in mixing bowlbutter and sugars in mixing bowl

In the bowl of your stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, add 1 cup (room temperature) unsalted butter, 1 cup light brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated (white) sugar.

Mix on low to medium-low speed for 3 to 4 minutes until light and fluffy.

Gradually add in the dry ingredients. Again, stop to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl after each addition. Stop mixing once the flour is incorporated.

Give a quick mix just to get the pieces throughout the dough. I like big pieces of butterfinger in my cookies, so I literally only mix it a few times. Alternatively, you could do this step by hand.

measure out cookie dough using a 2 tablespoon scoopmeasure out cookie dough using a 2 tablespoon scoop

Working in batches, use a 2-tablespoon scoop to measure out the dough. Place them a few inches apart onto your prepared pan.

I bake 10 cookies per pan at time to avoid them touching while they bake and spread in the oven.

Slide the baking sheet onto the middle rack of your preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are crisp and slightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the pan before transferring the cookies to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Repeat with the remaining cookie dough.

How to get perfectly shaped cookies?

If perfect circular cookies is what you’re after, this is a trick, or should I say hack, that I only recently leaned. Once you’ve removed the pan of cookies from the oven, working quickly, use a wide mouth drinking glass and place it over a misshapen cookie and swirl the glass. The edge of the cookie will smooth out and in turn, you’ll have a perfectly circular cookie. Repeat with the rest of the cookies. If you need a visual, click here and scroll down a bit.

I love these butterfinger cookies warm out of the oven. However, the day after when the Butterfinger candy pieces have returned back to being their crispy-flaky-selves while suspended in all that delicious cookie goodness – isn’t to shabby either.

My favorite candy bar in cookie form, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner.

    HOW TO STORE BUTTERFINGER COOKIES:

Once the cookies have completely cooled, store them in an air-tight container for up to a week.

    HOW TO FREEZE BUTTERFINGER COOKIES:

Portion out the dough and freeze the raw dough as is, placing them closed together on a lined baking sheet. Place into your freezer and freeze until frozen solid. Transfer to a freezer safe container or baggie and store up to 2 months. Bake desired amount of cookies following the recipe instructions. There’s no need to thaw before baking.

Witches, black cats, jack-o’-lanterns, spiders, cowboys and vampires lurked outside Netflix’s offices in Los Angeles this week in the latest group effort by striking actors to spook the major Hollywood studios into agreeing to their demands and bringing an end to the work stoppage that has haunted the entertainment industry for months.

  • Teenage trick-or-treaters are too scary for these cities

Teenage trick-or-treaters are too scary for these cities

    [ad_1]

Every year, it seems like the controversies surrounding Halloween keep getting stupider.

Last year, fears about “rainbow fentanyl” caused panic over brightly colored pills supposedly designed as candy. This year, parents online expressed horror over the “switch witch” (a clever, if cruel way to throw away your kid’s candy haul), and a New Jersey school district announced its baffling decision to cancel Halloween celebrations over concern for the minority of kids who don’t celebrate the holiday.

But there’s also another Halloween debate that has long gotten out of hand: How old is too old to go trick-or-treating? While this seems like a question for parents, some local governments have handed down their own decrees about just who gets to participate in Halloween candy collecting.

According to a recent NPR story, kids over 14 in Chesapeake, Virginia, caught trick-or-treating can be charged with a misdemeanor. Until 2019, they apparently faced six months in jail.

In nearby Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, kids over 12 are barred from trick-or-treating. Rayne, Louisiana, and Jacksonville, Illinois, also ban teenage trick-or-treaters. In Belleville, Illinois, they can get slapped with a $1,000 fine.

How often these laws are enforced is unclear. However, it doesn’t seem like local police departments are rigorously verifying the age of trick-or-treaters.

“Officers do not spend Halloween night ‘carding’ trick-or-treaters, nor are they actively seeking ‘over age’ participants,” one Chesapeake spokesperson told Today in 2019.

It’s not entirely clear why these cities have enacted age limits on trick-or-treating; the most common—though often vaguely phrased—reasoning seems to be an attempt to halt teenage crime.

“We saw and heard from a lot of seniors particularly, that big kids—kids in high school—kids were coming to the door as late as 10 o’clock at night and seniors were afraid to open the door and they were afraid if they didn’t open the door that something was going to happen to their house,” Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert said in a 2019 Slate interview. “Sometimes we have to make those decisions for parents who aren’t being parents….It’s unfortunate, but in today’s world we live in, sometimes government has to make tough decisions like this.”

While there is some evidence that crime does increase on Halloween, there’s no reason to think that banning teenagers from trick-or-treating decreases crime among juveniles. More importantly, pushing teenagers away from trick-or-treating might actually make them more likely to get up to less wholesome activities.

“What would you rather a teen do with the holiday?” Deseret News recently put it. “Egg houses? Drink?”

The real problem with these laws is that they present a legal solution to what is typically a social annoyance at most. Some find it obnoxious when teenagers try to collect their share of free candy, but truly disgruntled adults are perfectly free to turn away conspicuously teenage trick-or-treaters if they choose.

As it turns out, most people aren’t that bothered by younger teenagers getting in on the Halloween fun—even if many cities would ban their participation in trick-or-treating. A 2021 YouGov poll found that 26 percent of respondents thought that no teenager is too old to participate, while only 21 percent drew the line at age 12 or younger.

Celebrity Halloween costumes: Stars who went all-out in 2023 – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

It’s that time of year again, when everyone flocks to social media to share their creative, sexy and/or frightening Halloween costumes.

While regular folks around the world are crafting their costumes from cardboard or visiting their local Spirit Halloween for a last-minute outfit, the rich and famous have always taken the holiday to the next level.

Every year, pop culture enthusiasts eagerly await news of what their favourite celebrities wore for Halloween.

Fortunately, a number of film, TV and music’s biggest stars really turned out for 2023. Some, like actor Keke Palmer, even opted to host their own high-budget photo shoots to best show off their costumes.

It may not be the Met Gala, but it was still an opportunity for some celebrities to cause a fashion scene.

    Drew Barrymore

Bob Ross may be dead, but his spirit lives on. This Halloween, his artistic energy possessed Drew Barrymore, who wore an impressively accurate costume of the artist to host the Halloween episode of her series The Drew Barrymore Show. Whether or not people will see her controversial decision to resume production of the daytime talker as a “happy accident” remains to be seen.

    Christina Aguilera

Who would have thought Christina Aguilera would make a convincing Cher? This year, the Ain’t No Other Man singer opted to dress up as her Burlesque co-star, Cher, who played Tess Scali, the hard-knock club owner. In a video posted to Instagram, Aguilera even lip-synced Cher’s iconic line, “Wagon Wheel Watusi.”

    Ariana Grande and Liz Gillies

Former Victorious co-stars Ariana Grande and Liz Gillies reunited to bring us some Showgirls glamour. The stars paid homage to the 1995 Paul Verhoeven-directed cult classic/erotic thriller and (rather convincingly) transformed into Gina Gershon and Elizabeth Berkley.

    Justin and Hailey Bieber

Justin Bieber isn’t always known for being the most fashionable of celebrities, but with his wife Hailey Bieber at his side, the pair looked adorable as The Flintstones characters Pebbles and Bam Bam. The couple even got their two dogs dressed up in matching costumes to pose for photos.

    Adele

During her Las Vegas residency, Adele took to the stage dressed as Morticia Addams to sing “Hello from the other side.” In a floor-length gown and gold jewels, the singer brought the spooky festivities to Sin City.

    Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer delivers on her Halloween costume every year, but in 2023 her festive spirit reached new heights. The actor posted a movie-like trailer to Instagram featuring herself as The Bride of Frankenstein, and her young son as Dr. Victor Frankenstein.

As is usually the case for Palmer, she’s shared a number of different Halloween costumes to social media, including a copy-cat film poster for the Disney movie Life-Size starring Lindsay Lohan.

    Paris Hilton

This year, Paris Hilton is paying homage to the queens of pop music. The hotel heiress and business mogul dressed as Britney Spears in the Toxic music video, complete with a chunky, antennae cellphone (that also functioned as a clutch bag).

Hilton was also inspired by Katy Perry and donned a frilly, latex bodysuit and mushroom cap to match a viral fashion look from Perry’s Las Vegas residency this year.

    Ed Sheeran

Sometimes at Halloween, it’s best to work with what you already have. Singer Ed Sheeran put his natural red hair to good use in his creepy Chucky costume, which he wore on stage in Las Vegas on Oct. 30.

    Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian might be looking to quash sibling beef with sister Kim Kardashian — or at the very least, is taking some fashion inspiration from her. Though the siblings have been publicly feuding about Kourtney’s wedding for many months now, Kourtney recreated Kim’s 2013 Met Gala look.

The floral dress was not well-received at the MET, but Kourtney was able to show-off her pregnant belly in the floor-length gown, just as Kim did at the time.

    Amelia Dimoldenberg

Host of popular web series Chicken Shop Date Amelia Dimoldenberg proved that not all of the best Halloween costumes are sexy.

The internet personality chose to dress as Mr. Bean this year — and even shared a warning for any prospective Chicken Shop Date participants before posting the photos to Instagram. Hopefully Dimoldenberg, whose interview-style show documents her search for love, can still find a romantic connection able to see past the tweed jacket.

    Heidi Klum

Of course, one can’t discuss celebrity Halloween costumes without a nod to the queen of the holiday, Heidi Klum. Though Klum dons an impressive and elaborate costume every year — and last year won the internet over with her life-like, giant worm costume — the model and TV host took a different approach this time around.

Klum donned a massive, frilly pink cape and scaly-looking facial prosthetics to complete her look. Though she has yet to unveil the full outfit, the internet is already abuzz with guesses as to what the former supermodel is dressed as. Any thoughts?

  • High School Teacher’s Satan Costume Causes A Hell Of A Controversy

High School Teacher’s Satan Costume Causes A Hell Of A Controversy

    [ad_1]

A high school teacher in Mesa, Arizona, has been suspended after a few students were reportedly spooked by the educator’s Spirit Week costume: The devil himself.

When students showed up at the unidentified teacher’s classroom last week, they found the teacher wearing devil horns and carrying a pitchfork, according to Mesa NBC affiliate KPNX.

As each student entered the class, the teacher reportedly waved the pitchfork over their head and said, “Hail Satan.”

Sophomore Nathaniel Hamlet told the station that while some students thought the teacher’s antics were funny and others just blew it off, he personally didn’t appreciate it for religious reasons.

“I said, ‘Don’t do that to me,’ and I pushed [the pitchfork] away, maybe three or four times, and he still said it and still did it,” Hamlet told KPNX.

The unidentified teacher told the station that the Satan costume was part of a Halloween-themed Spirit Week.

“Participating in spirit weeks like this is a way for me to engage with my students and bring fun to my classroom,” the teacher said. “It’s truly not any more complicated than that.”

But Hamlet didn’t agree and told his dad, former Mesa Public School board candidate Chris Hamlet, who reported the incident to the school’s principal.

“I was livid because I am a Christian as well, obviously,” Chris Hamlet told KPNX. “What really tipped it over for me is he kept telling him no, and he and the teacher kept persisting.”

As a result, the teacher was taken out of the classroom the next day and put on paid administrative leave, according to a statement the Mesa Public Schools District gave to HuffPost.

“Mesa Public Schools administration was notified of the alleged incident at Mesa High School late Wednesday afternoon after school hours.

“Our Human Resources department began the investigation Thursday morning and placed the teacher on paid administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.

    “The investigation remains ongoing.”

Nathaniel Hamlet told KPNX he thinks the suspension is fair but said the teacher “did it repeatedly to everyone, so I feel like you should probably get fired.”

Chris Hamlet agreed with his son. “If you’re gonna keep the Christian stuff out, then you got to keep the devil-worshiping stuff out, period,” he said.

The devil was not able to be reached for comment.

  • I Cast a Love Spell With Salem’s Love Witch & Here’s What Happened

I Cast a Love Spell With Salem’s Love Witch & Here’s What Happened

    [ad_1]

While visiting Salem, Mass. last fall I knew I wanted to have as many witchy experiences as possible. The most profound experience I had in The City of Witches was casting a love spell with love clairvoyant Lorelei Stathopoulos. In the spooky city, I went all in: I had a tarot reading with a Witch High Priestess; toured the Witch Mansion; visited the Witch Dungeon Museum; dressed up as a witch for a photoshoot; saw live-action performances about the 1692 Salem Witch Trials; and saw iconic Hocus Pocus sites. But nothing compared to what happened during my visit with Lorelai.

You may recognize her from Season 19 of The Bachelorette back in 2022. Stathopoulos recalls thinking in 2019 that someday she’d be on The Bachelorette. “I needed to help them. They’re letting these guys walk all over them but they’re goddesses,” she says. Stathopoulos had forgotten about the vision and a few years later, she received the call asking her to do the apple love spell: “I said it’s about time you guys called me.”

On the episode of Aven’s hometown date with Rachel, Stathopoulos casts a love spell using an ordinary pantry staple—an apple! It’s one of her oldest and most popular spells. She could tell that Aven was scared and she told Rachel not to settle. “Aven ends up getting scared and doesn’t propose, so she dumps him and goes to this other guy that she settled for. Two months later, she catches him cheating and ends up with the original guy we did the apple spell with,” Stathopoulus says.

Stathopoulos comes from a long line of mystical practitioners and she oversees Crow Haven Corner, the oldest witch shop in Salem, which was also the first witch shop in the U.S. I paid Stathopoulos a visit under the new moon with a dream of pure love in my heart. She sat me down in front of a shiny red apple that had been cleaned and polished. “Put your energy into it from the beginning to the end—from lighting the candle to doing the spell. That’s what makes magic work,” Stathopoulos instructed. “The first thing about love magic is we have to love ourselves. Take a bite of the apple for self-love before you start the love spell.”

Since I was casting a generic spell without a specific person in mind, we skipped the step of carving the name of the object of my desire into the apple. If you’re casting the spell on a specific person, carve your name into one side of the candle and your potential lover’s name on the other side.

As per Stathopoulos’ instructions, the love spell should be cast three days before the new moon. “We’re going to call in the New Moon magic and call in the Venus goddess of love, love for yourself, and love to come,” Stathopoulos says.

She poured honey inside the apple along with rose quartz, coriander seeds, rose petals, and strawberry leaves. According to Stathopoulos, rose quartz is for self-love, rose petals and strawberry leaves are to attract love, and coriander seeds are for wealth. “We all need money. Money is power. We need it to do kind things,” she says.

To cast the love spell, you’ll need a pink candle (the color associated with true love in candle magic, while red is for lust). Place the candle in the apple and light it while chanting Stathopoulos’ love spell. The enchantment calls for a soulmate who will offer protection, provide love, and be full of light. And then she says to “fuggedaboutit,” in true East Coast fashion.

While you could gather the magical ingredients to conduct Stathopoulos’ love spell, it’s best to buy the spell kit from Crown Haven Corner that’s been magically charged by the Love Clairvoyant herself. Initially, I felt that casting the spell in person was fruitful for me. A few months later, I had forgotten about casting the spell and started a new relationship. He confessed that everything had been so magical he felt like a love spell had been cast on him. I admitted I had cast a love spell and we both agreed it helped bring us together.

Stathopoulos gave me a love spell candle to take home and it included instructions to light it with my new love one day. We burned it together and chanted the spell, which was meant to enhance our love. While traveling abroad and spending two months away from the candle, our relationship imploded. Ultimately, he didn’t live up to the enchantments requirement of true love, but I’m still hopeful the goddess Venus will bless me with my soulmate.

Fox squirrels meet match at Plant City fall farm festival

    [ad_1]

TAMPA, Fla. — Charlotte Weronik knows how to find her way out on the farm.

“If you do the maze correctly it’ll be one mile,” she explained, “It is five acres. It has a lot of twists and turns and little stops with scarecrows and mirrors and tables and decorations that you can take nice pictures in.”

The fifth grader volunteers here at the Fox Squirrel Corn Maze in Plant City.

She hasn’t missed a weekend, and she helps set up too.

She looks through the hundreds of little funky gourds near their pumpkin house, which clearly a witch lives there. “When pumpkins feel really light and hollow and they have all these spots, it means that they are going bad,” said Weronik.

Her next job? Weronik drops a peace offering.

“I am putting sunflower seeds around the base of the tree,” she said.

That’s because it will distract the fox squirrels from eating all the pumpkins.

“It’s a very good snack for them, but this kind of distracts them from that,” Weronik said.

Set up also calls for someone to test the equipment, so she bounces on the jump pad under large oak trees covered in Spanish moss.

“Sometimes it’ll be way too puffed up that it’s very hard or it will be very floppy and hard to bounce on, but right now, it’s pretty good,” Weronik explained.

Weronik discovered this Florida-style fall celebration thanks to her aunt and the event organizer, Lisa Steward.

“I like helping her with flowers and unloading pumpkins like I am right now,” Weronik said.

She’s the only 9-year-old kid she knows with her advanced seasonal celebration skills.

“It’s a very unique experience and it’s quite fun,” Weronik said.

5 Things to Do With all That Candy: Candy Buyback Programs & More

    [ad_1]

On the search for “candy buyback near me”? Did your kids bring home too much Halloween candy? On the search for “candy buyback near me”? Don’t worry! We have a couple of dental offices in Greenville to take that candy and exchange it for something that won’t result in a sugar overload or rot on their teeth. And we have a few more creative ideas for using or giving away that candy.

Halloween candy buyback at a local dentist in Greenville, South Carolina

What to Do With All That Candy!

Trade It for Money “Candy Buyback Near Me” at Greenville, SC Dentists

This is a good way to teach kids about ways that money works. There are a few local dentists where kids can bring in their candy by the pound and get a few dollars. This can work at home also where kids exchange their candy for money.

    Palmetto Family Orthodontics

Palmetto Family Orthodontics will buy leftover candy for $1 a pound and then donate it to local charities and to help by supporting our troops overseas.
    Times: Verdae Office: November 6, 8 & 9, 2023 during business hours
East Faris Office location: November 7th, 2023
    Location: 501 Verdae Boulevard, Greenville

Julian Thomas DMD Family & Cosmetic Dentistry

Bring in your wrapped Halloween candy to be shipped to troops overseas through the Operation Gratitude program! In previous years, the practice has exchanged candy for cash or prizes.
Times: Candy can be dropped off in early November 2023, but contact the dentistry directly for exact dates and times.
Location: 1141 East Butler Road Greenville | 864.676.0046

    Greenville Dental Studio

Bring Halloween candy in for a donation.
    Times: Information TBD for 2023.
Location:  644 North Main Street Suite 111, Greenville

    Greer Pediatric Dental

They will buy your Halloween candy for $1 per pound, up to five pounds.
    Times: Information TBD for 2023.
Location: 3115 Brushy Creek Road, Greer

    Feed the Switch Witch

I had zero idea what this was until several readers suggested it. The Switch Witch is basically giving your kid(s) a small gift in exchange for the majority of the candy they get. This can be especially helpful if your child has an allergy – they can still collect candy but get a cool gift instead of a boatload of stuff that makes them sick (side note: look for homes with teal pumpkins when trick or treating with a child who has allergies – these homes will have non-candy items. This is what my family does and it’s always a hit)

These are a few ideas of how to make the Switch Witch work for your family:

“I tell my kiddo that the switch a witch eats up the candy and in exchange will use her magic to make him a gift. In our house, he gets to pick five pieces of candy and the rest he can give to the switch a witch with the idea that the more candy she gets the bigger gifts she can make him. I typically do a costume, art supplies, or legos. About the same size or a bit smaller than a birthday present you buy for a kid’s birthday.”

    Let Them Eat It

This is an option I know a lot of parents do which I had never even considered: let the kids eat as much candy as they want. Just go ahead and jump in the deep end. Our readers say this option essentially gives kids too much of a good thing and they are so sick of candy after Halloween.

These are a few suggestions from our readers on how to handle this option:

“I let my daughter eat whatever she wants. It’s her candy and she won’t eat to the point of making herself sick, so I let her learn what her body wants and stop when she’s done (which is usually pretty quickly because she’s really good about that).”

“My son eats what he wants, but the novelty wears off within a day. Then we have old candy come Valentine’s Day.”

“If you’re not letting your kids go into a diabetic coma just one night of the year, are you really letting them enjoy childhood? Lol!! Mine usually get sick of it before long and I hide it in a bag and pass some out here and there and take a bunch myself lol.”

    Halloween Candy Donations

Some families will let their kids choose a handful of their favorite candy and then donate the rest to send overseas to the military or use it in care packages. Candy donations can be easily shipped, and your kids can help decorate the box. You can contact your local Ronald McDonald House to see if they are taking Halloween candy donations for the families who are staying there. Or, try donating through Treats for Troops.

Use the Candy for Christmas or Gingerbread Houses

Other parents will sneakily steal some of the candy and reuse it for Christmas stockings. And not-so-sneaky parents will use leftover candy for candy houses or for use when they construct Gingerbread houses during Christmastime.

“Let them have a little the night of and maybe the next day, and save the rest to divvy up into the Christmas stockings.”

“Let them eat it and then whatever is left in December is used on our gingerbread houses.”

What do you do with the tons of Halloween candy your kids bring home?

If you hear of any more candy buy-back programs in the Greenville area, please let us know in the comments!
