RUSSIA’S Wagner mercenaries are still waging a secret war earning £8million a month to reign terror for brutal warlords in Mali.

It’s a standard play for the mercenary army that terrorises, maims and murders on behalf of the Russian state in exchange for blood gold to feed Putin’s war machine, experts told The Sun.

The Wagner Group, which for years was ruled by oligarch and warlord Yevgeny Prigozhin until he met his fiery end in August, has spent decades secretly digging their claws into Africa.

Their haunting black insignia has been seen stomping all over democracy and stirring proxy wars across Central and West Africa.

Mostly recently, the poverty-stricken and failed state of Mali has become a zombie host for the Russian state’s spiky tentacles.

    And dirty business is booming.

In late 2021, the military junta who took power in a coup invited Wagner to bring in its weapons and hardened fighters to crush the Islamic State terror group.

In reality, they booted out the last of the UN peacekeeping force and France’s troops and propped up Mali’s corrupt military regime – leaving a succession of atrocities in their dusty wake.

US intelligence claims this so-called “security” costs Mali £8million per month.

The de-facto army offers a “broad portfolio” of “violence, atrocities and human rights violations,” according to Professor Salvador Sánchez Tapi, a conflict analysis expert at the University of Navarra.

“[Wagner] are following the same template everywhere – adapting it to the particular case of each host nation (civil war, military coup, colonial background),” he said.

In Mali, “anything related to buttressing the junta takes precedence over improving the overall security situation in the country”.

    GHOST ARMY

The role of the murky mercenary army in half a dozen countries across the continent is often difficult to track.

They usually wear no identifiable uniforms, their vehicles are unmarked and their faces masked.

An arm’s length from the Kremlin – Wagner provides them with a level of deniability and unpredictability that is essential to their mission.

Mali’s government has denied the presence of Wagner troops, stating only that they have a contract with Russia to provide “instructors”.

However, the Russian Foreign Ministry, its milbloggers, Western governments and human rights groups have repeatedly stated otherwise.

And in September, Wagner made a fiery display of their presence when one of their cargo planes careered off a runway and exploded into a ball of flames, reportedly killing dozens of its fighters.

Investigators have accused the armed thugs of turning Mali into a playground for manipulation – deepening violence, corruption and conflict and earning huge profits for Moscow.

It appears to be a clear business model.

The more instability and fighting they stir up in these powder keg countries, the more Wagner gets paid to crush it and prop up unlawful, corrupt regimes.

As Vladimir Putin reaps the blood-soaked rewards, the true cost has been paid by ordinary Malians.

    MOURA MASSACRE

In March last year, 500 civilians were slaughtered by Malian armed forces and foreign soldiers in the remote town of Moura.

It was the single worst massacre to have taken place for decades in a country that is defined by brutality and violence after decades of coups, terror and civil war.

The UN accused Wagner of being directly involved in the slaughter that saw villagers gunned down by helicopters as they gathered at a Sunday market.

For five days, troops overseen by Russian mercenaries carried out rape, torture and the summary executions of roughly 500 people, according to witnesses, Western military officials and diplomats.

“From Monday to Thursday, the killings didn’t stop,” Hamadoun, a tailor that was working at the market when the helicopters arrived, told The New York Times.

A cattle trader, Bara, added: “They terminated all the youth of this area.”

Of those killed, a handful were alleged to be members of an al-Qaida affiliated terror group – but the rest were unarmed villagers.

The extensive UN account of the murderous rampage lists it as the worst atrocity committed by Russian forces outside of Ukraine to date.

The rest of Wagner’s murderous campaign inside Mali has been more covert, but still devastating.

In Mali and the Central African Republic, “Wagner fighters are documented as having targeted civilians at a significantly higher rate than both state forces and major insurgent or terrorist groups,” Westminster said in July.

Numerous witnesses reported to Human Rights Watch (HRW) that foreign, non-French speaking, armed men were present at harrowingly similar attacks on village populations.

Each time, they described the foreign soldiers as “white”, “Russian” or “Wagner”.

On February 3, “foreign” soldiers attacked the village of Séguéla – leading to beating and arrests and the grim discovery of the bodies of eight locals on its outskirts.

Then throughout July, dozens of villagers from Mali’s hinterlands were reported missing during Wagner’s “counter-insurgency operations”.

On August 6, troops occupied a village and rounded up 16 male villagers and a boy. Their bodies were later found on the settlement’s outskirts.

Again, in each incident witnesses reported the involvement of “foreign” and “white” armed men that appeared to be Wagner soldiers.

Overall, the new HRW report claimed that Mali’s armed forces – backed by Wagner troops – killed at least 175 civilians between April to September this year.

The Malian Foreign Ministry has denied these claims.

A local man told HRW: “The army… kills people without fearing any consequences. The jihadists also kill, kidnap, and burn without fear of being held accountable.

“And we, the civilians, are caught between a rock and a hard place in our own country.”

    BLOOD GOLD

Intelligence suggests Russia’s interest in gold has increased tenfold since the start of Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine.

To finance that bloodshed, the Kremlin has intensified its plundering of Africa’s riches and resources, said Zoltàn Kész, a leading investigator of the “Blood Gold” report.

He told The Sun: “It’s clear that Wagner’s priority is not stability.

“The security situation has undoubtedly deteriorated since their arrival.”

The fellow at 21 Democracy added: “Violence targeting civilians in Mali has risen 38 per cent so far in 2023 compared to 2022, with Malian state forces alongside Wagner Group perpetrating 160 incidents.”

In Mali, the hefty bill of £8million for Wagner’s brutal services is settled in gold and by tax revenues from Western mining companies, Kész explained.

Their investigation hopes to uncover these “deadly bargains” made between Wagner, the ruling junta and Western companies, which lands this blood gold onto our fingers.

Only this week, Mali announced an agreement with Russia to build what will be their largest gold refinery, effectively allowing Putin “to control all gold production”.

“The price is being paid in lives across Africa and Ukraine,” said Jessica Berlin, another of the report’s authors.

    A WORLD OF WAGNER

Wagner forces first cut their teeth in Crimea in 2014 before fighting in proxy wars throughout the Middle East and finally Africa, collecting almost a decade of accusations of war crimes and gross human rights abuses.

Despite the brutality and violence, there is a method to the Kremlin proxy force’s madness.

Analysts have long warned that Wagner are central to Putin’s ambitions to re-impose Russian influence on a global scale.

“Wagner’s presence in Mali serves not only the mercenary army’s corporate interests, but also Russia’s geopolitical ones,” Professor Tapi explained.

    “And it is certainly dangerous.”

As Russia strives to reshape world order with its dangerous bedfellows of China, Iran and North Korea – using Wagner to gain influence across Africa and looting its riches is key to that.

And a series of terrifying outcomes could lie ahead.

Tapi fears that “Russia might end up using the territory of these countries to deploy weapons to reach Europe.”

And with the increased military presence, a future war with the West could be waged through proxies.

“They may control terrorism, [either] neutralising the threat or deflecting it at will towards the northern shore of the Mediterranean Sea.”

Options could also be explored to “gain control of the routes used by criminal networks to smuggle narcotics, arms, human beings, terrorists etc into Europe,” Tapi warned.

“We may see Russia using the territories under its control to destabilise the Maghreb [north western Africa] and Europe alike.”

    [ad_1]

THREE Russian FSB officers have been killed after their food delivery was reportedly spiked with arsenic and rat poison.

Officials claimed the alleged poisoning was the work of Ukraine’s underground “resistance forces” in Melitopol.

A fourth security service operative is reportedly in intensive care.

There has been no confirmation from Russian officials about the alleged assassination of the FSB agents – once headed by dictator Putin.

Telegram channel Kremlevskaya Tabakerka reported: “The restaurant where the food and alcohol were delivered was searched, and no traces of poisons were found.

“At the same time, the courier who delivered the food and alcohol disappeared without a trace.”

The poisoning claim was reported in Ukraine by the Kyiv Post, and apparently confirmed by exiled mayor Ivan Fedorov.

Speaking on Ukrainian TV channel United News, Fedorov said: “They ordered food from a local cafe and after they were able to consume this food, they all got poisoned and some of them even died.

“They will definitely not be able to fight against our state anymore.

“It is interesting that they cannot find the courier who delivered the food, but this is the active resistance that continues in Melitopol after almost two years of occupation.”

The mayor said: “The elimination of the enemy is carried out not only by explosions, missile strikes, but also by resistance forces.

“For example, the other day there was another batch of eliminated enemies, namely poisoned enemies, which was even reported by enemy Telegram channels.”

The Telegram channel claimed two of the three dead FSB operatives had launched an investigation into an alleged grave of Russian Black Sea Fleet sailors recently found in Melitopol.

Seventeen mutilated bodies showing evidence of missile attack had been discovered, it alleged.

Occupying forces have been repeatedly warned about the risk of food poisoning.

Last month, cake and booze laced with deadly poison was allegedly delivered to a Russian military bash in a Ukrainian plot to assassinate dozens of top pilots.

The Bond-style plan to take out Putin’s top-brass cronies at the elite military academy was reportedly thwarted at the last minute.

But 77 guests avoided the killer treats as a pro-war Telegram channel reported “everyone is alive” following the alleged plot.

Russian pilots were marking the 20th anniversary of their graduation from the Armavir Higher Military Aviation School.

The guests included many highly decorated and senior ranking pilots from the Class of 2003.

While the deadly 20 kilogram cake was cut, it was apparently left untouched as a crucial clue foiled Ukraine’s alleged plot at the last second.

And last year, two Russian soldiers died after eating poisonous pies given to them by Ukrainian citizens, Ukrainian intelligence claimed.

The soldiers, from the third Motor Rifle Division, are said to have died instantly after being given the delicacies as “gifts” by locals in Izium.

Another 28 Russians were said to have been rushed to intensive care after the poisoning, with hundreds of others suffering “severe illness” from poisoned food and drink.

Hamas tunnel unearthed near Gaza hospital revealed in video released by IDF

    [ad_1]

ISRAEL Defence Forces last night released footage of a Hamas tunnel they found near the al-Shifa hospital.

They said: “Hamas’s tunnelling infrastructure was exposed inside the hospital.

    1

Furthermore, a vehicle for the October 7 massacre was discovered, containing weapons and ammunition.

“In searches in the Rantisi Hospital troops continued to unearth a tunnel.”

Weapons have also been found in Al-Quds Hospital.

Entrances to the 311-mile “Gaza Metro” were suspected to be inside the hospital after Hamas terrorists fled into the complex.

IDF troops seized the A&E and MRI departments at the al-Shifa hospital in a 2am raid and uncovered an arsenal of weapons.

They also seized laptops containing names of some of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas last month.

Last night, IDF troops said they had found the body of Yehudit Weiss, who was among those snatched.

In a striking comparison – demonstrating the herculean task facing Israeli troops – it is now even bigger than the London Underground.

Massive stockpiles of fuel light the tunnels – as Gazans above ground struggle with barely enough electricity to power their hospitals – whilst ventilation systems provide oxygen.

To win the war and destroy Hamas, the IDF will at some stage have to enter its concrete underground base.

One former defence official said: “They have turned huge swathes of the Strip into legitimate military targets.

“These sons of b**ches have intentionally put their tunnels under houses, mosques and hospitals to maximise civilian casualties.

“It’s not just cynical, it’s pure evil.”

THIS is the moment a gunpowder factory was allegedly blown up by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone, turning the sky crimson red.

It comes just after Ukraine reportedly destroyed two Russian assault boats with crew on board in annexed Crimea.

Footage showed the huge fire burning from miles away

The dramatic footage shows a blazing fire on the horizon in Kotovsk which Russian media reports claim was from the factory.

A loud explosion was reportedly heard moments before the sky was set ablaze around midnight on Friday.

The huge fire can be seen lighting up the sky from miles away in the Tambov region, south of Moscow.

Ukrainian telegram channels claimed it was caused by one of their kamikaze drones.

No casualties have been reported as of yet.

Hours earlier on Friday two Russian assault boats with crew on board were allegedly blown up by the same drones.

The ships were reportedly carrying loaded armoured vehicles, including personnel carrier BTR-82.

The Russians are also alleged to have had Tor-M2 air defence systems on board the boats, for cover of their group on the island and in the Black Sea.

Ukrainian media outlet TSN news wrote on Telegram on Friday morning: “As a result of a night operation on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea, small landing ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation were damaged by soldiers.

“We are talking about boats of project 11770 (of the “Serna” class).”

It alleged the small boats, used by Russia during the occupation of Zmiinyi Island to transfer military equipment, were carrying a crew and loaded vehicles.

Dramatic black and white footage showed the moment alleged Ukrainian kamikaze drones hit the Russian navy crafts near Crimea.

A ship can be seen in the aim sight of a sea drone camera before a huge explosion engulfs the screen.

Ukraine‘s “invisible” underwater kamikaze drones, capable of carrying 1,000lbs of explosives, are Vladimir Putin‘s newest nightmare.

The newly-designed $355k and 20ft Marichka torpedo-like weapons were only recently taken for a test swim, as Ukraine ramped up production of unmanned marine assault weapons.

It is the latest creation of Ammo.Ukraine, a volunteer organisation that is helping to turn the tides in the so-called “War of the Drones”.

In August, a marine drone packed with 450kg of TNT explosives attacked another Russian warship at Novorossiysk naval base.

Video showed the alleged SBU Ukrainian intelligence sea drone zooming towards the boat in the cover of darkness.

The footage abruptly ended as it appeared to hit the warship, believed to be either the Olenegorsky Miner or Olenegorsky Gornyak.

Putin sparks surgery rumours after appearing with swollen ‘butt filler’ cheeks

    [ad_1]

PUFFY Putin has got the internet laughing again after emerging with swollen cheeks that look like he used “butt filler” to cling onto his youth.

A recent video shows the Russian tyrant struggling to smile through his possibly botox-stuffed cheeks as rumours of his deteriorating health continue to swirl.

In the strange clip from this week, it’s hard to ignore Putin‘s changing facial features as his cheeks appear puffier than ever.

And it doesn’t seem to be a stretch to suggest he enjoys plastic surgery after experts have long claimed his face shows clear signs of cosmetic improvements.

It seems that with each public appearance, Putin keeps the world guessing with a sordid series of health rumours, death scares and possible string of body doubles.

One Twitter user marvelled at the differences in Putin’s face this week.

    read more on vladimir putin

Attributing his cheek changes to “butt implants”, he asked: “What the f*** is going on?”

Another joked: “Did he get stung by bees in both of his cheeks?”

And while speculation surrounding his internal health issues continues, his changing facial features cannot be ignored.

After two decades of his iron-fist rule, Putin almost appears younger than when he first rose to power.

Experts recently claimed that there is clear evidence of Vlad is addicted to going under the knife to improve his looks.

The rumours, which have been swirling since 2011, concern how his once gaunt, slim face now looks round and full – with little signs of visible ageing.

Speaking to The Sun, leading UK cosmetic surgeon Gerard Lambe is adamant that all signs lead to Putin having regular botox and filler injections.

“Mr Putin’s appearance has undergone a dramatic change over the years,” he said.

“The biggest changes I see are in his facial shape which is likely due to cheek fillers but this is often overdone in a bid to avoid a facelift – this is something I see in my clinic on a regular basis.

“He may have had fat injections to fill out hollows in the cheeks and temple regions also.”

Meanwhile, the Kremlin was forced to issue an extraordinary denial at the end of last month after false reports swirled that Putin had died.

Claims surfaced in a Telegram channel that Putin had died at his Valdai palace, just north of Moscow, and that his body was being kept in a freezer.

Ukrainian intelligence then alleged that Putin faked his own death in a bizarre bid to test his popularity among the Russian public.

Kyiv claimed last week the false rumours were deliberately spread by Putin’s allies.

The head of Ukrainian military intelligence Lt-Gen Kyrylo Budanov shockingly also alleged the real Putin hasn’t been seen since June 2022.

He said last month: “The one, who everyone used to know, was last seen around 26 June 2022.”

Adding fuel to the fire, a strange Putin-themed calendar containing only old photos of the tyrant sparked further speculation that he may have died.

None of the images chosen by the pro-Kremlin paper that produced the calendar were taken within the last two years.

Following the Kremlin’s denial, Putin brought back out his famously massive “social distancing” table – leaving a gaping distance between himself and Russia’s religious leaders.

His giant table meeting was a far cry from his recent close up meetings with other officials and further incited rumours that the tyrant uses body doubles for certain engagements.

In October, a breakthrough Japanese AI analysis claimed it had proved the 71-year-old leader does use body doubles.

The research relied on facial recognition, voice comparison and body movements to indicate there are several different Vlads

This week, Putin suffered fresh humiliation in the form of a not-so-flattering Russian AI-generator.

The AI chatbot Kandinsky managed to get the Russian flag wrong and create both a headless image of Putin and an embarrassingly naked portrait of Putin.

Kandinsky’s developers were reportedly summoned to the Russian prosecutor’s office as a result.

Dozens more Brits make it out of besieged Gaza as they cross into Egypt

    [ad_1]

DOZENS more Brits finally made it out of besieged Gaza yesterday — crossing over the Rafah border into the safety of Egypt.

Families spoke of their intense relief after 90 of their loved ones escaped the enclave while the week-long Israeli bombardment continued.

Among those who made it were the in-laws of Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf, who said: “These last four weeks have been a living nightmare.”

He confirmed at noon that his wife Nadia’s parents, Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla, from Dundee, were out as he told of his “deep personal relief”.

Of 200 or so Brits stuck in Gaza when war broke out, a handful are thought to remain in northern Gaza because it has been impossible to travel safely south to Rafah.

The Foreign Office has not said exactly how many have made it out.

Security Minister Tom Tugendhat said the Government was being “very cautious” on numbers.

He said: “We neither control the border, nor do we control what’s going on inside Gaza.

“We don’t want to give false hope or false belief to individuals that they’ll be able to cross.”

The UK has deployed a Border Force team in Cairo and posted consular officials near Rafah to assist those trying to get out.

Among those to cross at Rafah was surgeon Abdel Hammad, from Liverpool.

His son, Salim, said: “We finally got the news when he gave us a call and said, ‘I’ve made it through’. We felt overriding relief.”

Scottish leader Mr Yousaf and his wife called for a ceasefire so a humanitarian corridor could open to save innocent Palestinians as Israel continues its rout of Hamas.

He said: “Although we feel a sense of deep personal relief, we are heartbroken at the continued suffering of the people of Gaza.

“We reiterate our calls for all sides to agree to an immediate ceasefire, the opening of a humanitarian corridor and for all hostages to be released.”

As the fighting raged, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged both sides to do as much as possible to reduce casualties.

On his third visit to Israel since the conflict began, he described Hamas’s bloodthirsty outrages on October 7 as “almost beyond human capacity” and blasted them for using civilians as “human shields”.

More than 1,400 people were slaughtered in the attacks.

Mr Blinken, who met Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, also said more needed to be done to protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

He said: “We have provided Israel advice, that only the best of friends can offer, on how to minimise civilian deaths while still achieving its objectives of finding and finishing Hamas terrorists.”

And he said work on a two-state solution — with Israel and Palestine peacefully co-existing beside each other — must begin “not tomorrow, not after today, but today”.

Mr Netanyahu ruled out a temporary ceasefire to establish a humanitarian corridor unless the kidnapped Israelis were released.

Four of the 242 abducted have been allowed to leave and one was rescued.

America is flying MQ-9 Reaper drones over Gaza to help locate the others.

Israeli Defence Forces troops, meanwhile, have tightened their encirclement of Gaza City.

Hamas health chiefs said more than 9,000 Palestinians have been killed.

There were reports of 15 deaths when a convoy of ambulances carrying injured Palestinians to the Rafah crossing was hit.

An IDF spokesman said later: “An IDF aircraft struck an ambulance that was identified by forces as being used by a Hamas terrorist cell in close proximity to their position in the battle zone.

“A number of Hamas terrorist operatives were killed in the strike.

“We have information which demonstrates Hamas’s method of operation is to transfer terror operatives and weapons in ambulances.

“We emphasize that this area is a battle zone. Civilians in the area are repeatedly called upon to evacuate.”

Another four Israeli soldiers have died, taking the total killed to more than 330 since the war began.

Violence also continues to escalate in the West Bank where the death toll since October 7 is 144.

But 77 guests avoided the killer treats as a pro-war Telegram channel reported “everyone is alive” following the alleged plot.

Russian pilots, some who’ve fought in Putin‘s failing war against Ukraine, were marking the 20th anniversary of their graduation from the Armavir Higher Military Aviation School.

The guests included many highly decorated and senior ranking pilots from the Class of 2003.

And while the deadly 20 kilogram cake was cut, it was apparently left untouched.

When the pilots tried to identity the seemingly generous donor, academy staff found CCTV footage of a man delivering it.

He was swiftly tracked by Russia’s elaborate facial recognition tech as being from Melitopol in Ukraine, channel Flightbomber alleged.

He was also claimed to have rushed from the academy to Stavropol airport after delivering the poisoned goods, possibly to fly to Moscow and flee Russia.

The alleged attempted poisoner was identified as 32-year-old E Semenov, 32, and according to the channel was detained before he confessed to the assassination attempt.

It also claimed Ukrainian military intelligence services were responsible for the alleged bid to wipe out dozens of Russian pilots.

“He immediately told everything – about the cake with a potent poison, which bottles were poisoned right away, and which ones he bought to top the present up,” Flightbomber claimed.

“He explained how he knew the number of guests, and where the celebration would take place.

“Even the aviation school emblem, drawn on top of the cake, was the current emblem.”

The pro-war Telegram channel, with almost half a million subscribers, is run by a former military ace pilot and has close links to the Russian air force.

A picture of the detained man was published by Baza media outlet.

Reports did not say which poison was allegedly used.

The man is suspected of ordering the cake from a local confectioner in Armavir, in the Krasnodar region.

“By pure chance and thanks to the conscientiousness of the officers, who put the anonymous cake and the booze aside, no-one had time to eat the cake or taste the booze,” said the channel.

“It would have been a disaster. 77 guests.

“But everybody is alive. GUR [Ukrainian military intelligence] failed, and it’s good.”

Russian secret services are reportedly hunting for “confectioners and others involved in the failed sabotage”.

A number of pilots from the academy hold the Kremlin’s highest honour – Hero of Russia.

There has been no official comment from Russian law enforcement on the alleged poisoning attempt at one of the country’s most prestigious military academies, founded by Stalin in 1940.

Flightbomber went on to warn Russian pilots of the risk of assassination by Ukraine.

“Remember that there is a war going on,” cautioned the channel.

“A graduate of an aviation school like yourself is…a good target.

“And also Ukrainians make media victories from these kinds of deaths…. Keep in mind that you cannot only be poisoned.

“There are also a thousand other ways to kill. Be careful.”

The alleged plot comes just weeks after Russian secret services were reportedly investigating an attempt from “within their own ranks” to kill Vladimir Putin.

They were apparently hunting a supposed FSB agent who was ‘boasting’ about taking down the dictator at a karaoke club in Moscow.

An informant, named Mikhail Yurchenko, told the Telegram channel VChK-OGPU – which has close links to Vlad’s security agencies- the “agent” was gloating about being given the “task” to “remove” the dictator.

The bizarre claim came from a meeting at Honey, a Moscow club and known haunt of Russian security services operatives.

The Russian dictator is known for taking his security extremely seriously and lives in constant fear of being assassinated.

Inside Israeli agents’ mission to hunt down and kill Hamas monsters in Gaza

AN elite squad of undercover Israeli agents was last night operating in Gaza — with a hit list of Hamas terrorists to kill.

The nation’s Shin Bet internal security service unleashed the crack unit to hunt down every massacre monster hiding in the coastal strip.

The “Nili” unit — named after a Bible verse including the phrase “Israel will live for eternity” — has already taken some terror chiefs.

They are believed to include the commander of HamasNukhba unit, Ali Qadh, who was among the leaders of the mass slaughter of 1,400 people in southern Israel, near Gaza’s border, a fortnight ago.

Another terrorist named as Billal Al Kedra — who led the attack inside the Nirim kibbutz where children were butchered — has also been traced and “neutralised”.

Nili’s shadowy assassins have been using Shin Bet intelligence to zero in on the killers.

Top of their “hit list” are Hamas military commander Muhammad Deif and massacre mastermind, political leader Yahya Sinwar.

Sinwar, 60, has been dubbed “The Face of Evil” and the “Palestinian Bin Laden”.

Around 1,000 Hamas fighters swarmed into Israel on October 7 followed by hundreds of looters and hostage-takers.

Hundreds of the savages responsible for the bloodbath have been identified by close analysis of CCTV and footage taken from the bodies of slain Hamas fighters.

The creation of the “assassins unit” suggests a lengthy campaign of stealth attacks will take place alongside the looming Israeli ground surge into Gaza.

Military experts said the Nili group operatives, disguised as civilians, have been taking their fight to the enemy using laser-guided target markers.

Once a Hamas killer’s car or hiding place are identified, they are marked for a precision strike by warplane-launched guided missiles or bombs.

Target markers can also be left in drinks cans placed under cars or close to buildings.

Lightning “shoot and scoot” hits are also believed to have wiped out other Hamas killers.

Israeli troops and armoured vehicles continued to line the Gaza border yesterday — ahead of the expected ground invasion of the 25-mile-long strip.

Israel redoubled its air and big gun blitz of Gaza yesterday — vowing to smash all Hamas lairs before launching its offensive.

More than 300 warplane and artillery munitions were fired within hours overnight after 700,000 refugees fled the war hell.

Even more intensive air attacks were ordered early yesterday targeting Hamas bunkers and bases as tens of thousands of ground troops were declared ready to go in.

But the civilian toll in Gaza continued to spiral among more than 300,000 innocents trapped in the north of the strip — as only a trickle of aid was ferried in.

At least 110 Palestinians were reported killed yesterday as Gaza authorities claimed the attack toll had risen to 4,651 dead — including 1,873 children — plus 14,245 injured.

Israel’s Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said: “We will deepen our attacks to minimise the dangers to our forces in the next stages of the war. We are going to increase the attacks.”

Israel yesterday ordered 14 more communities in Gaza to be evacuated as its blitz intensified after 700,000 people moved south.

But many Hamas commanders remained in bunkers beneath the homes of “human shield” civilians.

Fears of a widening regional conflict — which could suck in world powers — also grew after US-backed Israel’s missiles struck Damascus and Aleppo airports in Russian-backed Syria.

Israel has hit the airports several times this year to thwart arms shipments from Iran to Hamas and its Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.

Sporadic clashes continued yesterday across Israel’s northern border with Israeli and Hezbollah forces locked in rocket and artillery skirmishes.

An Israel Defence Forces’ tank accidentally attacked an Egyptian position near the Kerem Shalom area last night.

An Israeli military spokesman said the IDF regretted the incident.

Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu said the war in Gaza is “do or die” for his country as he addressed troops on the border with Lebanon.

He also issued a fierce warning to Hezbollah.

He said starting a war against Israel would bring counter-strikes of “unimaginable” magnitude that would wreak “devastation” upon Lebanon.

In an official transcript of a briefing, he said: “I cannot tell you right now if Hezbollah will decide to enter the (Gaza) war fully.” But he added such a move would be the “mistake of (Hezbollah’s) life”.

Bullish Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant said: “Nothing will stop the IDF.

“This should be our last manoeuvring operation in Gaza, for the simple reason that afterwards there will be no more Hamas.

“It may take a month, two or three, but at the end there will be no more Hamas.”
