    MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), announced the implementation of toll rates for the CALAX Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange, as approved by the Toll Regulatory Board. These rates will be effective starting at 12:01 AM on February 10, 2024.

    “The implementation of these toll rates aids in the continuous maintenance and enhancement of our toll road while ensuring efficient and safe travel for our users. The Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange has become a vital part of our network, significantly enhancing the connectivity and economic landscape of the region,” said Raul L. Ignacio, president and general manager of MPCALA Holdings Inc.  

    The critical CALAX Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange section connects directly to the Aguinaldo Highway, facilitating smoother and faster travel to key tourism destination areas in Cavite, including Tagaytay and Silang. It was opened to motorists last November 8 with a free toll until further notice. CALAX has surpassed its targeted daily traffic for the recently inaugurated subsection, with an impressive daily count of 12,000 vehicles—well beyond the projected 5,000 cars and has become an essential component of the region’s infrastructure.

    GCash supports Paleng-QR Ph launch in Quezon City


    Continuing the shared mission to boost digital payment adoption across the Philippines, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have rolled out the Paleng-QR Ph plus initiative in the country’s most populous urban center Quezon City, in cooperation with GCash, the country’s number one finance super app.

    Under the joint initiative, market vendors and tricycle drivers in Project 4 Public Market in P. Tuazon can easily transact with their customers through GCash QR codes. 

    Leading the launch were BSP deputy director Mynard Bryan Mojica, DILG undersecretary for barangay affairs Felicito Valmocino, Quezon City mayor Joy Belmonte-Alimurung, Quezon City chief of business permits and licensing department Margie Santos, committee on markets councilor Vic Bernardo, QC Federation of Public Market Vendors president Liwayway Forte, and GCash chief compliance officer Atty. Cef Sison.

    “The joint Paleng-QR Ph initiative program aims to transition consumers from cash to digital and educate Filipinos on the benefits of cashless transactions. This is part of our national strategy for financial inclusion since 2022. We hope that through the Paleng-QR program, more and more Filipinos will become financially empowered. As such, with this initiative, we are closer to our goal of financial inclusion where no Filipino is left behind,” Mojica said.

    During the launch, Mayor Belmonte-Alimurung also called for more vendors, tricycle drivers, as well as micro and small entrepreneurs to participate in the program, which is now being implemented in eight public markets in the city.

    She said, “The whole world is quickly transitioning to cashless transactions, so it’s about time the Philippines took advantage of this innovation. I encourage more of our residents to embrace cashless transaction methods like GCash. It is very convenient, and every transaction can be done in just a few taps on your phone. The program will also help the LGU to provide easier, quicker, and more secure disbursement of aid to citizens and more convenient tax payments for our constituents via the GCash app. We are honored to have GCash, BSP, and DILG as our partners, and we are excited to bring more game-changing initiatives to achieve financial inclusion.”

    Currently, 87% of vendors in the city already accept the GCash QR payment method, with 65% of them actively transacting. With its continuous efforts to fast-track digital transformations among its constituents and its public markets, Quezon City was also one of the top-performing LGUs that were awarded the Excellence in Digital Empowerment Award at the third annual GCash Digital Excellence Awards in 2023.

    For its part, GCash continues to collaborate with its partners to lead the initial national rollout of Paleng-QR Ph. It’s also been present at the launches in key cities across the country including Baguio, Bangkerohan Public Market in Davao City, Pasig City Mega Market, Antipolo Market Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (AMTODA), Lapu-Lapu Public Market in Cebu, Mandaue Public Market, Tagbilaran, Bohol, Tarlac, Naga, Bacolod, and Cotabato.

    PLDT-Smart launch FarmTech kit for farmers


    Leading integrated telco network PLDT Inc (PLDT) and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc (Smart), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), have launched FarmTech, an initiative that aims to provide tech access to farmers, especially in far-flung areas, enabling them to harness technology in pursuit of livelihood.

    As part of its Digital Farmers Program (DFP), PLDT and Smart’s award-winning digital inclusion program for farmers in partnership with DA, the telco launched FarmTech, a tech-driven farmers training kit designed to empower and equip farmer groups and agri-coops in their digital literacy training programs for their farmer members even those in remote areas.

    Receiving the very first FarmTech packages were two affiliate farm groups, Myriad Farms of Guimba, Nueva Ecija, and Samahan ng mga Pangulo ng Magsasaka of Morong, Rizal. 

    Each FarmTech package includes a tablet, 10 smartphones, a Smart Bro Pocket Wifi with Smart Prepaid load cards, an outdoor projector and projector screen, a rechargeable portable sound system, a flash drive containing multimedia learning resources and apps, and DA-ATI learning materials. 

    “There are a lot of apps and digital solutions we can tap and integrate into the DFP. With the help of PLDT and Smart, these can now reach the farthest corners of the Philippines,” said DA-ATI Director Remelyn R. Recoter, adding that she is hopeful that FarmTech would play a key role in encouraging farmers to use technology in their livelihood.

    Enabling the digitalization of farmers is PLDT and Smart’s integrated fixed and wireless networks across the country. “We at PLDT and Smart continue to invest in our infrastructure to provide meaningful connections to Filipinos across the country, furthering our livelihood and digital inclusion advocacies, especially for the agricultural sector,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and head of Stakeholder Management at PLDT and Smart.

    “Hand-in-hand with our partners from DA-ATI, we hope to achieve our vision, which is to enable the digital transformation of farmer groups and agri coops all over the country to build a truly digitally-enabled agriculture sector,” she added.

    Part of PLDT and Smart’s long-standing partnership with DA-ATI, FarmTech is the latest addition to DFP, which was established by the PLDT Group and DA-ATI in 2019 to make technology and digital solutions more accessible to Filipino farmers. 

    Even as a country that relies heavily on its agricultural sector, Filipino farmers are among the most commonly marginalized in terms of economics and technology, as many are located in rural areas and unable to pursue further education. Aging farmers also tend to be tech-averse, preferring old-school touchpad phones over smartphones.

    Empowering farming communities through digital tools and mobile technologies towards #SustainableAgriculture and #InclusiveGrowth is a key priority of DFP. PLDT and Smart’s efforts to promote inclusive technologies that can help boost livelihood opportunities among farmers and fisherfolk also highlight the Group’s support for the government’s overall digitalization thrust.

    As the Chinese New Year long weekend approaches, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) readies for the upcoming long weekend, starting this Friday. As travelers gear up for a well-deserved break,  the landport is committed to ensuring a smooth and convenient commuting experience for all passengers. 

    “With the support of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), DOTr’s Special Action and Intelligence  Committee for Transportation (SAICT), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation  Office (LTO), Parañaque City Traffic Management Office (TPMO), PITX has consistently provided efficient transportation services to millions of passengers. With a focus on safety, convenience, and accessibility,  PITX has become a reliable hub connecting commuters to various destinations within and outside Metro  Manila,” said corporate affairs and government relations head Jason Salvador. 

    To enhance the travel experience during the long weekend, PITX has implemented the following measures: 

    • Increased security presence: PITX together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) strengthened its security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all commuters. Additional police personnel will be deployed throughout the terminal and its proximity areas mainly; Mindanao and Kennedy Avenue,  maintaining a visible and vigilant presence. 
    • Improved passenger management: To manage the expected surge of passengers during the long weekend, PITX has implemented enhanced passenger management systems. This includes dedicated ticket booths for provincial trips, bus live schedules, and crowd control measures to ensure a smooth flow of people within the terminal. 
    • Increased public transportation availability: PITX continues to collaborate with various transport operators and agencies to ensure sufficient availability of public transportation options. This includes all modes of transportation to cater to the diverse commuting needs of passengers. 
    • Improved festive ambiance: For a prosperous Year of the Dragon, we enjoin the Chinese New Year day festivities, with a dragon dance to invite more luck and good karma for our passengers on February 10. To celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day, serenaders are at the landport on February 9, 14, and 16, 2024.
