    Following the launch of the Skills Training to Employment Program (TP STEP) in 2023, Teleperformance in the Philippines, a global leader in digital solutions, has sealed its commitment with the Pasig City local government unit through a recent memorandum-of-agreement (MOA) signing ceremony.

    “Our partnership with Pasig is a first for this program. This is a very exciting collaboration, and we cannot wait to see the transformative impact of TP STEP in the lives of Pasigueños,” said Chief People Officer Jeffrey Johnson. 

    “By equipping different impact groups with soft and hard skills, we are not merely training them to become employees, but we are also empowering these individuals to go back and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” he added. 

    The TP STEP curriculum, meticulously crafted by the organization’s industry experts, is tailored to equip participants with the necessary skills to thrive in the contact center industry. In its test run in 2023, the organization helped 68 graduates successfully secure employment. 

    Recognizing the importance of forging partnership, CEO Rahul Jolly stated: “The curriculum that we developed at TP positions our learners for long-term success in their respective careers.     A Second Chance for Impact Hires

    In 2023, TP Philippines established partnerships with 24 community-based organizations, LGUs, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training centers.  Among STEP’s successful graduates, present in the MOA signing event, are Dale Roland Montejo, Vivian Sulit, Keischia Mae Ganutan, and Rommuelle Jay Tabor.

    “From a practical standpoint, the salary isn’t sufficient for aspiring teachers like myself. I needed to earn for my family, and TP STEP proved invaluable, especially for job seekers in the marginalized sectors of society,” said Dale, a customer service representative from TP EDSA Greenfield and an Education degree-holder.

    Enchanted Kingdom, the first and only world-class theme park in the Philippines, reopened its 800-meter go-kart race track featuring brand new karts for kids and adults alike. Feel the rush of adrenaline with the whole gang at the more EKciting Fun Kart!

    The reopening ceremony which happened February 25 was led by EK president and CEO Mario O. Mamon and Yokohama Tires Philippines vice president Vivienne Cruz. Father and son racing champions Carlos and Iñigo Anton, and international race car driver Marlon Stockinger exhibited their driving skills at the EK Fun Kart. Carlos’ eight-year-old son, Alonzo Anton, tested the cadet kart for eight to 12-year-old drivers.

    “To make the ride more inclusive, EK added four cadet karts for the younger members of the family to enjoy,” Mr. Mamon shared. “We also have 12 brand new single seaters and five two-seater karts. EK also added a new lap-timing system for more fun and friendly competition,” he added.

    International race car driver Marlon Stockinger shared that he was here when EK Fun Kart first opened in 2003. “It gave me a lot of experiences, a lot of good teachings towards my racing career. I think it’s a good place to hone your skills as a driver. So, whether you want to enjoy or bring your family – or if you want to take racing seriously eventually – this is a great training ground,” he said.

    The Fun Kart which closed for five months due to the renovation period boasts an enhanced building and new paint markings. It also features new tire barriers in partnership with world-class quality tires company Yokohama Tires Philippines. 

    “We are glad to partner with Yokohama Tires Philippines who are aligned with EK’s priority to ensure the safety of our guests to deliver a seamless and magical experience here at the park,” Mr. Mamon added.

    The Fun Kart is open from Wednesdays to Sundays, from 12PM until the park closes. Single-seater karts can be availed at PHP800, PHP950 for two-seater karts, and PHP650 for the cadet carts.

    Together with market research firm Milieu Insight, 600 Social Commerce sellers across six countries — Singapore, Malaysia, The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam — were surveyed in November 2023. Social commerce takes place in social-first, commerce-second platforms that disrupt the usual consumer journey by letting it unfold in a social environment, such as TikTok Shop.

    Ninja Van Group’s analysis of the survey results finds that Social Commerce sellers face the same operational challenges as anyone selling on other online platforms. However, Social Commerce presents entirely new challenges for sellers wishing to harness this platform’s potential for business growth. 

    Sellers turn to Social Commerce platforms for their already captive audience, allowing them to reach more audiences. Despite this, Filipino sellers remain challenged in creating effective content as well as chasing the ever-changing and often elusive platform algorithms. 

    Almost half (46%) of surveyed Filipino Social Commerce sellers struggle to create and curate content for their pages — a trend reflected across the region. 

    41%, meanwhile, find it challenging to stay on top of the platform’s algorithms and, therefore, are unable to fully capitalize on the platform to stand out. 

    Despite these pain points, Social Commerce remains crucial for sellers.

    Spotlight on The Philippines

    In the Philippines, sellers take advantage of Social Commerce platforms’ ability to reach more customers by selling around three different categories of products. The top product categories sold by these Social Commerce sellers are Food and Beverage, Fashion, and Beauty or Personal Care. 

    Compared to the other markets, more Filipino sellers say that Social Commerce allows them to quickly find out if products will be successful or not. This demonstrates Social Commerce platforms’ ability to capture audience interest in products not solely based on sales alone, but also on reach and engagement of product-related content. 

    However, Filipino Social Commerce sellers also find it hard to stand out in this space — highlighting that Social Commerce is just as challenging as selling on other platforms. 

    “On top of the quantitative survey conducted with Milieu Insight, we also consulted some of our Social Commerce sellers to find out how they tackle these challenges. By consolidating these insights and solutions into this white paper, we hope to equip sellers for a more adept navigation of Social Commerce,” says Sabina Lopez-Vergara, chief commercial officer, Ninja Van Philippines.

The new hires will support the world-class service Amazon offers to customers in the U.S. and other countries and will strengthen Amazon’s existing customer service teams in Cebu and Manila.
