These Must-Try Room Fragrances Will Make Your Space Smell Luxurious in Seconds

    [ad_1]

If you’ve been on the hunt for a way to refresh your space without dedicating much time or effort, a room spray might be the best solution. As much as I love candles and reed diffusers, they carry certain risks and require surveillance and frequent replacement, and they may not always layer well with other home fragrances. While shopping for your fragrances, consider the size and foot traffic of the space you’d like them to fill. Room spray can linger without being overwhelming, allowing for a space that’s entirely your own, and may even help combat scents that are tough to remove. Many room sprays can also double as home décor, as their vessels are often as elegant as the fragrance found within.

Below are eight of the best room sprays that Who What Wear’s beauty and fashion editors have agreed belong in every home. Each of them can be used alone or layered, with a select few doubling as fabric mist. Keep scrolling to see my breakdown of the best options for specific spaces across many price points.

  • A Hyper-Curated List of the 14 Absolute Best Candles, According to an Editor

A Hyper-Curated List of the 14 Absolute Best Candles, According to an Editor

    [ad_1]

In my eyes, creating a cozy space is one of the most important ways for me to feel at home. In my apartment, that means candles everywhere. I’m the type of person who has a candle lit at all times. There’s no better way to set the mood, curate a space, and get endless compliments every time someone sets foot in your home.

Not all candles are created equally, however. In my time as a beauty editor, I’ve probably tried upward of 100 candles. A good candle isn’t just dependent on smell—you also have to factor in burn time, how clean a candle burns, and the vessel its housed in. Keep reading for a list of the 14 best candles you can use.

  • If You Give a Beauty Editor $150 to Spend at Sephora, Here’s What They’d Buy

If You Give a Beauty Editor $150 to Spend at Sephora, Here’s What They’d Buy

    [ad_1]

Even though we beauty editors are known for collecting (or, depending on who you ask, hoarding) skincare, makeup, and hair products, we also know the importance of sticking to a budget, however difficult it may be. We know better than anyone how quickly a shopping trip can veer off the rails. One minute you’re heading to Sephora to pick up your favorite product—just one!—and the next minute you’re leaving with a triple-digit receipt and some serious post-purchase remorse. No judgment; we’ve all been there.

In order to prevent these (ahem) unexpected shopping sprees, we’re setting a budget for ourselves. Our goal is to spend no more than $150 in total, purchasing only the products that we love the most. Was it difficult to narrow down our expansive wish lists? Yes. Was it worth it? Definitely. Keep scrolling to see the 15 products we’d buy with a $150 budget.

  • This Genius Hack Will Turn Every Perfume Into a Travel-Sized Version

This Genius Hack Will Turn Every Perfume Into a Travel-Sized Version

    [ad_1]

To make your own mini perfume, the first thing you need to do is boil water so that it’s warm enough to liquify the Vaseline (you don’t need it piping hot!). Once the Vaseline is melted, spritz in some of your favorite perfume. Gendler uses four sprays, but you can make it as concentrated as you want. Mix in the fragrance, then pop it in the fridge until the Vaseline is solid again.

Once the Vaseline is solid, you can take it with you anywhere—throw it in your work bag, take it on an airplane, bring it with you on a night out. Perfume also lasts longer on moisturized skin, so this hack might also make your perfumes last longer thanks to Vaseline’s occlusive benefits. Keep reading for the perfumes we’re doing this with first.

  • We ID’d 10 Reed Diffusers Fashion People Love to Keep in Their House

We ID’d 10 Reed Diffusers Fashion People Love to Keep in Their House

    [ad_1]

Reed diffusers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have three main components: fragrance oil crafted from a mixture of essential oils, reed sticks (which are traditionally made from natural rattan reeds) to soak up and disperse the scent, and a vessel to hold the oil and reeds in place. As with anything, having a general understanding of how to use your reed diffuser can help you get the most out of it. To set up your diffuser, place a few paper towels or a reed diffuser tray to catch any spills. To begin, gently remove the seal on the oil jar or vessel, paying particular attention to its level.

Next, place the reed sticks in the vessel so that one end is submerged in the fragrance oil while the other end is exposed to the air. Each reed has small pores that allow the fragrance oil to be absorbed and travel to the top half of the stick. For a fresh burst of fragrance, the sticks should be rotated every one to two weeks. This helps prevent the reeds from getting clogged! To do this, simply take the reeds out and put the dry end into the vessel.

Once the fragrance oil has reached the part of the reed that’s outside of the bottle, it will evaporate and release scent molecules into the air for a constant, fresh scent ideal for anywhere you’d like to maintain a delightful fragrance with little-to-no effort.

Katy Perry Told Me All About the “Yummiest” Fragrance In Existence

    [ad_1]

Who What Wear: How would you describe the fragrance in your own words?

Katy Perry: It’s all my favorite things: vanilla, candied citrus—it’s just the yummiest fragrance! So good you can almost taste it.

WWW: Is Devotion a daytime or nighttime scent?

Perry: It’s definitely an all-day fragrance. The citrus notes are light and bright for day, but the vanilla notes make it sexy for night, too.

WWW: What made you want to collaborate with Dolce & Gabbana? And why is this partnership a good fit?

Perry: I remember wearing this leopard print Dolce & Gabbana dress on Warped Tour all the way back in 2008, and I’ve worn them everywhere from the Met Gala to Coachella, to America Idol to my music video for “When I’m Gone.” They feel like a part of my style DNA, and I’ve always loved working with Stefano and Domenico.

WWW: What was your experience working with the brand, and on this campaign?

Perry: I’ve had such a fun experience on this campaign. When you start the relationship with three days on Capri, you can’t go wrong! I got to be on a boat for some of the scenes, and then walked all around the island, getting in some pizza and pasta along the way. It’s also been wonderful being in NYC and seeing my fans who also love Dolce & Gabbana at Macy’s!

  • For Under $40, You Can Smell Like You Just Took the Most Expensive Trip to Rio

For Under $40, You Can Smell Like You Just Took the Most Expensive Trip to Rio

    [ad_1]

Currently, I feel as far away as possible from a vacation. It’s cold outside, and I’ve been spending most days inside my apartment. The seasonal slump that comes mid-winter is real.

One thing that’s always guaranteed to pull me out of the winter blues is spritzing on a good fragrance to enhance my mood. I’m a big believer in using fragrance as a form of self-care, so I like to wear perfume every day, regardless of the circumstance.

Lately, I’ve been dreaming of taking a trip to Rio de Janeiro. Though a physical trip might not be in the cards for me right now, I can travel there in my imagination by misting myself with Sol de Janeiro perfumes. These vacation-inspired sprays are the next best thing to going on a real vacation—they’re tropical, warm, and sweet.

Consider these fragrances your ticket to a sun-kissed escape, regardless of the weather wherever you are. The best part? Most of these sprays clock in at less than $40, so even if you’ll only be wearing them on a Zoom call, you won’t need to feel guilt. (Plus, they wear like expensive perfumes.)

Prada Has Lots of Iconic Fragrances, But These 10 Are the Best

    [ad_1]

There’s just something about fragrances from a fashion house. They feel luxe, chic, and rich—you know what I mean? When you wear a Prada, Gucci, Chanel, YSL, or Dior fragrance, you automatically feel so much more… expensive, shall I say? Plus, if you can’t really afford a huge closet full of designer clothing, maybe a bottle of perfume or two might do the trick until you save up for your next investment piece. I know that’s my personal thought process.

There are so many iconic fragrances from each house, especially Prada. Amber, Prada’s first fragrance, is a favorite with so many people because of its woody and mysterious vibe. And that’s just one of the brand’s intoxicating and popular perfumes. If you want to explore more and find a new signature scent, take a look at some notable Prada perfumes below.

I’m personally a fan of Burberry fragrances because they’re everything I want in a perfume: something that’s timeless but feels fresh. Plus, I’ve loved London ever since I studied abroad there over 10 years ago, so it perfectly suits my Anglophile preferences.

No matter the way, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the most popular scents from the brand. My Friend Said I “Smelled Like an Angel” When I Wore This New Designer Perfume

    [ad_1]

I’m extremely grateful for all the fragrances I’ve acquired over the years as a beauty editor. Although I have a nice stock I can choose from to suit my mood, I always find that I come back to the same handful of fragrances and wear them on repeat. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit. It’s always a special feeling, though, when you spritz on something new and instantly know it will be part of that handful.

I had such an instance occur when I doused myself in Gucci’s latest addition to the Guilty family, Guilty Elixir de Parfum Pour Femme ($175). Not only did I immediately fall in love with the rich, heady scent, but I also received a compliment from a friend that I’d never gotten before. The first thing she said to me when I went in for a hug was, “OMG, you smell like an angel!” The highest praise coming from someone who has exquisite taste in fragrances.

If you love the Guilty line from Gucci, you definitely shouldn’t miss out on a few new fragrances from it that are sure to turn heads. Keep scrolling for my thoughts on my fave, Guilty Elixir Pour Femme, and its sister product, Pour Homme.

  • I Get So Many Compliments When I Wear This Underrated Perfume Trend

I Get So Many Compliments When I Wear This Underrated Perfume Trend

    [ad_1]

When it comes to the best perfumes for women, body sprays are often overlooked. I don’t know about you, but until recently, whenever I would think about body sprays, I would be taken back to the Victoria’s Secret Bare Vanilla Body Mist that I would layer on as a teenager before heading to school. However, this underrated fragrance category has had a serious upgrade in the past few years, with brands such as Tom Ford and Diptyque creating high-end, luxury body sprays for women that are now front-runners in my perfume collection.

You see, body sprays happen to be a much more affordable way of trying out your favorite brands. For example, a Diptyque perfume may set you back a cool $175, but the brand’s body spray retails for $65. Not only that, but they’re also a lot easier to throw in your handbag, meaning that you can easily top up your fragrance throughout the day.

In fact, body mists are my secret weapon to smelling good all day long, as I can easily give myself a quick spritz without the scent becoming over-bearing or proving to be a very costly price per pump.

  • I Ranked My Entire Kayali Perfume Collection—These 8 Capture the Most Attention

I Ranked My Entire Kayali Perfume Collection—These 8 Capture the Most Attention

    [ad_1]

I rarely ever say this, but I’ve loved every single fragrance I’ve tried from this one brand. It’s a unicorn among perfume houses, and I have a close friend to thank for introducing me to it. One day, we met up before heading to an event, and I stopped her because she was wearing the most delicious perfume. It was sweet but not so sweet that it smelled too juvenile—just the perfect combination of warm and inviting.

She then told me it was from Kayali, the brainchild of Mona Kattan and the sister brand to Huda Beauty. Just catching one whiff of it had me hooked already, but this marked the beginning of a long love affair with the brand that continues to this day. Even though Kayali has a variety of scents (there’s something for everyone!), I find that I even love the scents that aren’t what I would normally gravitate toward. This is a true testament to the work the brand puts in when it comes to its formulas. If you haven’t tried anything from the brand yet and want to, keep scrolling. I’m ranking all my favorites ahead. Believe me. It wasn’t an easy task!

People Always Want to Know My Scent—What I’d Buy During Sephora’s Savings Event

    [ad_1]

I’m what you could call a fragrance person. I have upwards of 50 perfumes in my room at any given time, I wear a different perfume every day to match my mood (and my outfit), and a “you smell good” compliment is the highlight of my day. Needless to say, I’ve tried many, many different perfumes. I have scents I keep going back to, and some that I’ve tried once and never touched again.

There’s nothing worse than spending money on a scent and only using it once, so I scrolled through Sephora’s entire fragrance section (yes, the whole thing) to find 10 scents that I would actually buy for myself. In case you didn’t know, Sephora’s biannual Savings Event is starting today, so now is the perfect time to snag a new perfume.

Here are the details of the savings event. Rouge members (who receive 20% off) get access from October 27 to November 6, and both VIB and Insider members get access from October 31 to November 6. VIB members receive 15% off, and Insiders receive 10% off. Use the code TIMETOSAVE at checkout.

  • 5 Chic Fragrance Combos That Will Have Everyone Asking “What Scent Is That?”

5 Chic Fragrance Combos That Will Have Everyone Asking “What Scent Is That?”

    [ad_1]

Le Labo describes its scent The Noir 21 as a fragrance that “combines depth and freshness, softness and strength through permanent oscillation between the light of bergamot, fig, and bay leaves and the depth of cedarwood, vetiver, and musk.” As a Le Labo lover myself, I have to admit this one is definitely in my top three favorite fragrances it offers (and there are a lot of good ones).

With this one you can really smell the cedarwood, which makes it perfect to pair with Byredo’s Bal D’Afrique. This Byredo fragrance has notes of African marigold, bergamont, violet, and cedar wood, so it’s one of those that stands out among the rest. Byredo‘s website describes this scent as Ben Gorham’s “love letter” to Africa and is focused on beauty and fantasy. Every time I put it on, I instantly feel more elevated and sophisticated. Bal D’Afrique also has a Moroccan cedarwood base, so these two pair together delicously. If you want to smell elevated, woodsy but not too sweet, this combination is for you.

  • This Fragrance House Makes Perfumes Using the DNA of Extinct Flowers

This Fragrance House Makes Perfumes Using the DNA of Extinct Flowers

    [ad_1]

Sometimes, I feel like no matter what, it’s really difficult for a fragrance to be truly unique. At the end of the day, a rose is a rose is a rose, after all. There’s only so much you can do to reinvent the wheel when it comes to fragrance—at a certain point, all of the raw ingredients available to you are the same.

That’s why the new Future Society fragrances piqued my interest. In the world of fragrance, they’re truly unique scents, and that’s because the brand is reaching far outside a fragrance’s normal purview. Future Society scents are made using DNA sequences found from extinct flowers.

For founder Jasmina Aganovic, using these extinct DNA sequences is all about using fragrance and biology in tandem with one another to tell a story. “This idea of taking a DNA-sequencing Jurassic Park–type thing with flowers rather than dinosaurs is sort of the origin of this,” she says. “[We] work together with the Harvard Herbarium to gather specimens of flowers that have been preserved and are now known to be extinct.”

These flowers aren’t being resurrected and reintroduced into the world. (Technology isn’t that advanced yet.) Instead, they’re given new life through fragrance. “The DNA is sort of like an instruction manual,” says Aganovic. “It’s sort of like 23andMe. If you’ve ever done 23andMe, you spit into a tube and it sends you all of this interesting information about yourself.”

After gathering information about each flower, Aganovic honed in on anything that gave her clues to how it might have smelled. “That started to give us a direction of the olfactive profile and the scent molecules that were encoded into this flower,” she says. From there, they figured out which scents were likely actually expressed by the flower and wound up with six scents you won’t smell anywhere else—each is a unique reconstruction of an extinct flower.
