JustBOGOS, First of Its Kind Grocery Savings App, Expands to Android

JustBOGOS provides those who don’t have the time to clip coupons or search the weekly ads, with a way to save effortlessly on groceries.

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 7, 2017

JustBOGOS, the first-of-its-kind grocery savings app, is now available on both Android and iPhone, with the recent launch of the Android app.  The free app saves Users money effortlessly on their groceries by distributing BOGO (Buy One, Get One) alerts to ensure that Users never miss their favorite grocery BOGO deals again.  The app currently sends alerts to Florida residents who shop at Publix, Winn-Dixie and Sedano’s supermarkets, and last month began expansion into North Carolina with Publix alerts.

JustBOGOS is a simple yet revolutionary concept.  After a User signs up and confirms their location and preferred grocery stores, they gain access to a consolidated “at-a-glance” summary of all local Buy One, Get One sales currently available across multiple supermarkets:  All in one place.  Then, each week when new BOGO’s become available, Users receive an alert which contains the quick-reading list all of the new BOGO’s.

The app has been featured twice on the front page of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Money section, lots of new Users join daily, and last month expanded outside of Florida, beginning with Charlotte, North Carolina. The startup is also seeking business partnership opportunities.

    Jason Taub, Founder, JustBOGOS

Items are sorted by store and department, and can be added to a custom Shopping List for quick in-store access.  Users can also add their favorite brands or products to their list of Favorites within the app, for custom alerts when any of those items become BOGO in their local supermarkets.  Between these features and the built-in Notepad feature, users have on-the-go access to their grocery shopping list and complete control over the type of alerts they receive and how they’d like to receive them – Via app notifications, email, or both.

Knowledge is power.  With JustBOGOS, knowledge equals savings and Users are always in-the-know of what’s currently BOGO at any given moment, allowing them to stock up on their favorites.  JustBOGOS provides those who don’t have the time to clip coupons or search the weekly ads, with a way to save effortlessly by receiving instant notifications of which BOGO sales are currently available and where to get them.

The initial concept launched in 2014 in the form of email-based alerts from JustBOGOS.com.  Due to the popularity of the free service, work on the iOS app began quickly, and the app for iPhone and iPad launched in November 2015.  Most recently, in late 2016, the Android version of the app was launched.  The app is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, completely free.  Those who prefer email-based alerts only can sign up at www.JustBOGOS.com.

When JustBOGOS Founder Jason Taub was asked where the idea came from, he explains how he grew tired of driving to the grocery store, picking up the weekly ad, manually searching for his favorite BOGO sales, only to find out that none of them were available.  He wished there was a way he could receive an alert every time his favorite groceries became BOGO.  The problem was, there was nothing out there like it.  So that’s when Taub set out to build it.

JustBOGOS is continuously expanding.  The app has been featured twice on the front page of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Money section, lots of new Users join daily, and last month expanded outside of Florida, beginning with Charlotte, North Carolina.  The startup is also seeking business partnership opportunities.

The app is available to both iOS and Android Users by searching for “JustBOGOS in the app stores, or by going to www.JustBOGOS.com.

  • Community and Police Team Up for a Better Neighborhood

Community and Police Team Up for a Better Neighborhood

    Lowering crime through neighborhood cleanups.

    Press Release

    Aug 7, 2016

A diverse team of volunteers joined the cleanup of a stretch of the Pinellas Trail, organized by the Clearwater Police Department.

Participating were members of The Way to Happiness Association of Tampa Bay, North Greenwood residents, volunteers from the Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources Department’s Auxiliary Ranger Program, students from the Washburn Academy and local Scientologists.

The Pinellas Trail is a protected greenspace for walking, jogging, skating and biking, extending 47 miles along an abandoned railroad line from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs. It is managed by the Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources Department.

The volunteers tackled a section of the trail that runs through North Greenwood, a Clearwater municipal zone of more than 7,000 residents.

Known as a cultural hub decades ago, in recent years North Greenwood declined and became known as a high-crime, low-income neighborhood. When the crime rate peaked in July 2015, local residents banded together to upgrade the area with various projects to improve the facilities and environment of the neighborhood.

One of the projects undertaken was frequent cleanups, a function listed by the National Crime Prevention Council as one of the 20 communities initiatives than can reduce crime.

Clearwater Police Sergeant Wilton Lee directed the operation Saturday, July 30. He thanked each volunteer for their participation in this important project.

City Councilman Bill Jonson, who joined in the cleanup, said he hopes the work of the volunteers will set an example and influence others to treat the neighborhood with pride.

Since initiating cleanups and other projects to upgrade the North Greenwood neighborhood, crime has dropped 56 percent, according to a recent Pinellas County report.

  • Do You Want to Do Something Effective to Stop Crime?

Do You Want to Do Something Effective to Stop Crime?

Volunteers at the Criminon Center in Clearwater, Florida, say that with a few hours each week you can do something effective to reduce crime. Help close the “revolving door” through which prisoners return to a life of crime and wind up back in jail.

    Press Release

    Jun 10, 2016

More than 10.1 million people are held in penal institutions internationally, with 2.2 million serving time in the United States. Of the 100,000 inmates in Florida’s prison system, nearly one in three released will be behind bars again within three years. And Pinellas County ranks second in the state in the number of juvenile arrests.

Criminon Florida, a criminal rehabilitation program, says that with even a minimal investment of time, anyone can do something effective to reduce crime. The group holds a weekly open house at their new headquarters in Downtown Clearwater to introduce the community to the program and encourage new volunteers to join.

The Florida group has guided some 20,000 inmates through courses designed to help them make a fresh start as productive members of society.

Criminon Florida headquarters is one of six new centers opened in Clearwater, Florida, in July 2015 to house the humanitarian and social betterment programs supported by the Church of Scientology. In the center, 83 volunteers invest some 1,000 hours each month, assisting more than 900 inmates in 101 prisons in Florida by supervising them through correspondence courses.  Criminon also conducts onsite programs for groups of inmates in eight Florida prisons, some of them supervised by the inmates themselves.

The weekly Criminon open houses are attended by those interested in volunteering and others who simply want to find out more. They are joined by local businesspeople and rehabilitation specialists interested in supporting or implementing the program to tackle this urgent social problem.

Criminon, meaning “without crime,” is based on the discovery by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard that the path to true rehabilitation is for the offender to “find out when he lost his personal pride.” Mr. Hubbard states, “Rehabilitate that one point and you don’t have a criminal anymore.”

Today, Criminon is active in some 1,000 prisons and correctional facilities worldwide, with nearly 13,000 inmates enrolled in the program.

Ted Cruz awaits winner of Democratic primary after clinching GOP nomination

FILE – Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, speaks to the media during a press conference on the border, Sept. 27, 2023, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Democrats in search of flipping a U.S. Senate seat are watching Texas closely on Super Tuesday to see who voters nominate against Sen. Cruz.Mariam Zuhaib/AP

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has officially locked up the GOP nomination for a third term and awaits the winner of a wide field of Democratic challengers.

Cruz had no major primary opponent. Nine Democrats are running for the chance to unseat him in November, including U.S. Rep. Colin Allred and state Sen. Roland Gutierrez.

Democrats see Cruz’s seat as one of their best chances to flip a Senate seat this year even though a Democrat hasn’t won a statewide race in Texas in 30 years.

Cruz’s last reelection campaign in 2018 ended in a narrow victory over Democrat Beto O’Rourke.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Democrats in search of flipping a U.S. Senate seat were watching Texas closely on Super Tuesday to see who voters nominate against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, whose underdog challengers have cast as vulnerable after a narrow margin of victory in 2018.

U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, a former NFL player and three-term congressman from Dallas, and state Sen. Roland Gutierrez have drawn most of the attention in a primary that again finds Texas Democrats in pursuit of a breakthrough candidate. No Democrat has won a statewide office in Texas in 30 years, the longest losing streak of its kind in the U.S.

Despite that, Democrats believe Texas and Florida are their best shot for upsets in November as they try to preserve a slim 51-49 advantage in the Senate. That majority includes West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who is not seeking reelection and whose seat is likely to flip Republican.

Seven other Democrats are also running in the Senate primary in Texas, including state Rep. Carl Sherman. The race heads to a May 28 runoff if no candidate wins a vote majority.

Allred, who would become Texas’ first Black senator if elected, has raised more than $21 million since getting in the race. That’s significantly more than his primary challengers, whom the civil rights lawyer has largely ignored during the primary while keeping his attacks focused on Cruz.

Allred, 40, made headlines in January when he was among 14 House Democrats who backed a Republican resolution in Congress that criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of the border. Gutierrez criticized Allred for the vote, accusing him of siding “with GOP extremists,” and Cruz spokesperson Macarena Martinez called the vote a “disingenuous attempt to posture on the border.”

Allred said he did not agree with all the language in the resolution but said he wanted to see more urgency at the federal level when it comes to the border.

“For me, it was about sending a signal that, you know, what we have been doing is not working,” Allred said in an interview last week during early voting in Texas. “We have to change something.”

Cruz only narrowly beat Beto O’Rourke for reelection in 2018 by less than 3 percentage points. It was the closest Democrats have come in decades to winning a statewide seat and happened during a midterm election that wound up being a strong year for Democrats nationally.

Texas Democrats have struggled to recapture that momentum since then. O’Rourke lost by double digits when he challenged Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.

“Things are shifting in the state. It takes a long time,” said Jared Hockeman, the chairman of the Democratic Party in Cameron County along the U.S.-Mexico border. “We recognize that.”
