Non-Profit Publishes Bible Video Game, Takes Aim at Lowering Teen Suicide Rate

    [ad_1]

IMD Interactive merges gaming with God’s Word to help players gain a deeper connection to scripture and help overcome anxiety and depression. Anointed Games are video games of the Bible’s mightiest heroes and are “free to play.”

    Press Release

    Sep 19, 2022

Alabama based non-profit and Bible video game publisher, Foundation for Intelligent Media & Design (IMD Interactive), recently announced that its first video game, The Anointed: David Saves Keilah (DSK) will be free to download Thursday, Sept. 22 on Steam.

The Anointed: DSK is the first of three video games, scheduled to release by Fall of 2023, following the early life of King David.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents, and suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15-19 years.

IMD Interactive President Drayton Cosby exclaimed that daily Bible reading is at an all time low in America and that is contributing to the increased amounts of fear, anxiety, depression, and anger.

“According to the CDC, youth suicides soared during Covid-19, while depression, fear and anxiety is at an all-time high,” said Cosby. “Showing people that God is searching for them through difficult times is a big reason why we were led to merge the Bible and gaming.”

IMD Interactive Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of Interactive Carlo Romano said that he personally understands the affects of losing a loved one to suicide, having lost a young family member.

“Losing a loved one to suicide is difficult, you never fully recover from it as a family,” said Romano. “But we know the power of the Bible and the wisdom it contains, so if we can deliver it the right way, lives can be changed.”

IMD Interactive Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Matt Clark said that he is thankful that God has given him an opportunity to use his talents and skills as a programmer to reach future leaders and generations.

“We are breaking into the gaming space with God’s Word because that’s where younger generations are spending the most of their time,” said Clark. “Our hearts our focused on equipping young leaders, supporting parents and giving churches more tools to grow so our society can thrive.”

The Anointed: DSK delivers the narrative of 1 Samuel Chapter 22 and 23. As David, the player can run, climb, scale walls, swing from ropes and ride a horse on their journey to save Keilah. The game play requires stealth, combat and strategy to fulfill God’s plan and save the people from the Philistines, while being hunted by Saul.

IMD Interactive is committed to creating an environment that equips future generations, parents and churches by deploying Bible based games that spreads God’s Word and establishes immersive experiences through art, software, and music to enhance Bible engagement, literacy, and under-standing.

To access the DSK Steam store page, players must be 13 years of age or older. For parents that are considering allowing younger children to play, please visit IMD Interactive’s FAQs for more information.

You may subscribe for updates, donate or keep up with the latest information at imdinteractive.org.

  • Author Suzanne Jones’s New Book ‘From the Flood’ is a Poignant New Memoir Marking the 50th Anniversary of Hurricane Agnes

Author Suzanne Jones’s New Book ‘From the Flood’ is a Poignant New Memoir Marking the 50th Anniversary of Hurricane Agnes

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    Jun 21, 2022

Trauma recovery specialist Suzanne Jones (There Is Nothing To Fix) shines in this first-rate memoir chronicling a life defined by a hurricane 50 years ago. Pre-flood, Jones was a typical 1970s kid — but after Hurricane Agnes roars through Wilkes-Barre, PA, on June 23, 1972, Jones’s entire life changed.

Jones, now 57, says she wanted to mark the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Agnes by writing of her childhood experiences through what was then the worst natural disaster in American history. “There are many books and documentaries about this historic flood, but I wanted to write about the impact of a natural disaster on one family that loses everything. It took years for us to piece our lives back together.”

Jones was compelled to pen her story after she realized her experiences of the flood and the following years of displacement were drastically different from her parents’. Jones states, “As a trauma specialist, I can now look back and see that as kids, we had everything we needed to thrive – community, play, and the opportunity to use our experiences in our games of imagination. Ironically, the best years of my childhood were the worst years for my parents.”

With sparkling prose and a fine eye for detail, Jones easily pulls readers into her engaging narrative, choosing to share much of her ordeal through a lens of childhood wonder and naiveté, and recounting her experiences with a child’s frankness. With descriptions that alternate between laugh-out-loud funny and heart-breakingly sad, From the Flood offers lessons of resilience that are as relevant today as they were half a century ago.

“This book feels not only like a gift to my parents, but a lesson to parents everywhere that children can thrive through traumatic events if we allow them to be kids.”

“As a person who has worked with children and families who have survived both acute and chronic trauma, I gained more perspective from this wise and beautiful seven-year-old than I learned from many experts in the field.” —Steve Gross, Chief Playmaker, Life Is Good Kids Foundation

Family Goes Viral on TikTok for Genius Hack to Get Their Kids to Do Chores

    [ad_1]

Family racks up millions of views and inspires other families with their fun Chore Challenges

    Press Release

    Apr 14, 2022

A Southern Californian family keeps going viral for its family’s Chore Challenges. Mike and Amber Mamian, owners of travel blog Global Munchkins, were just like all other parents during the pandemic: struggling to keep their kids entertained and also to do their homework and chores.

Then one day, Mike picked up a ping pong ball off the ground and tried to throw it into a cup. When he made it and saw his teen sons get excited and want to try, an idea emerged.

So he began creating chore challenges. “Basically, it’s a twist on playing party games, except the kids are playing for what their chore will be for the week,” Mike said. Each week, the kids play a new game to determine their chore or for the chance to win No Chores.

“The key is to have the kids have a chance to win no chores,” Amber said. “Even if the kids don’t win ‘no chores,’ just the chance at winning makes the kids never complain about doing chores. It’s like magic.”

The family posted the first challenge on its Global Munchkins TikTok account back in November of 2021 and, at the time, the account only had around 300 followers. The first chore challenge video went viral and several have gone viral since, racking up millions of views and likes. Now, the account has over 300,000 followers.

The family’s most popular challenge was the toilet roll chore challenge and got picked up by multiple outlets including Sports Center. That video has racked up a combined 90 million views across the multiple platforms

Since the videos have gone viral, hundreds of other families have posted their chore challenges. “Our favorite thing is seeing other people re-create our challenges and having fun with their kids. It warms my heart,” Amber Mamian said.

Wondercide Expands Line of Plant-Powered Pest Protection for Pets and Home

    [ad_1]

New offerings add convenience and layers of defense against fleas, ticks, mosquitoes & flies

    Press Release

    Mar 17, 2022

Wondercide, the leader in safe and effective pest protection for pets, people, homes, and yards, announced a new lineup of plant-powered products debuting this spring. The first to launch was the Mosquito & Fly aerosol spray ($12.99 MSRP), and now through April, three new products expand the company’s Flea & Tick offering for dogs and cats. Flea & Tick Shampoo ($19.99 MSRP), Flea & Tick Collar ($19.99 MSRP), and Flea & Tick Spot On ($19.99). These new solutions continue the Wondercide approach to Treat Nature with Nature™.

    NEW Mosquito & Fly Product

For indoor and outdoor use, the Mosquito & Fly is a plant-powered aerosol spray designed to quickly kill mosquitoes and flies, with the ability to kill over 20 other bothersome bugs, such as drain flies, fruit flies, gnats, and more.

Powered by geraniol and lemongrass oil, this spray kills by contact and, when used as directed, is safe to use around kids and pets. The aerosol is propelled by carbon dioxide (CO2) and does not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or lower indoor air quality. Once empty, the container is recyclable. Available now at Wondercide.com and Amazon.com.

    NEW Flea & Tick Products

The entire lineup of the new Flea & Tick products features natural cedarwood and peppermint oil with a fresh peppermint scent. In further innovation, the Flea & Tick Collar and Flea & Tick Spot On offer pet parents added convenience and a safe alternative to conventional spot drops and collars when used as directed. Flea & Tick Spot On, Collar, and Shampoo will be available for purchase online at Wondercide.com, Amazon.com, Chewy.com, and pet specialty retailers in the U.S.

    • The Flea & Tick Shampoo is Wondercide’s first liquid shampoo. Made for dogs and cats four months or older, it kills fleas and ticks by contact and repels them, making the shampoo an excellent first step in treating an active infestation or as part of an ongoing flea-and-tick maintenance routine. The shampoo is free of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and helps soothe itchy skin from bug bites.
    • Flea & Tick Collar comes in two versions – one for dogs (up to 23″ neck)  and one for cats (up to 13″ neck). The water-resistant collars are designed for pets four months or older and offer up to four months of continuous protection against fleas and ticks, up to one month of protection against mosquitoes. The collars feature a breakaway safety feature that will protect pets if a bit too much tension is applied.
    • Flea & Tick Spot On is designed for dogs and cats three months or older. Each box contains three monthly applications. One size is available for cats, while three sizes in small, medium and large are available for dogs. Each water-resistant monthly application repels mosquitoes for up to seven days in addition to repelling fleas and ticks for up to 30 days.

With the new product offerings, Wondercide customers can be worry-free in 1-2-3.

    1. Kill fleas and ticks on your pet with Flea & Tick Shampoo and Flea & Tick Pets + Home spray, the original flea-and-tick solution.
    2. Repel and prevent fleas and ticks on your pet with Flea & Tick Collar or Flea & Tick Spot On.
    3. Maintain control indoors with Flea & Tick Pets + Home and outdoors with Flea & Tick Yard + Garden spray.

As with all Wondercide products, these new solutions are powered by plants and safe to use around kids when used as directed. Mosquito & Fly Spray, Flea & Tick Shampoo, Flea & Tick Spot Collar, and Flea & Tick Spot On are 25b products (deemed by the EPA to be “minimum risk” to humans and the environment) and cruelty-free, tested only on the bugs they’re designed to eliminate. All packaging is recyclable including the aerosol once empty.

“When you love someone, you do everything in your power to protect them. I founded Wondercide because I knew there had to be a better way to protect my dog Luna, and help other families keep their loved ones protected,” said Stephanie Boone, Founder and CEO of Wondercide. “These new products add extra layers of plant-derived protection, while the Collar and Spot On deliver convenience to busy pet parents. They are easy to use and will help make life better for Packs of every kind, everywhere.”

  • Austin Pets Alive! | This Is a Call for Innovators and Entrepreneurs…

Austin Pets Alive! | This Is a Call for Innovators and Entrepreneurs…

    [ad_1]

    Mar 11, 2022

An estimated one million pets will be dying in shelters this year because they haven’t been adopted—or weren’t kept out of the shelter with safety net programs to support people and pets.

Meanwhile, in some parts of the country, there are not enough cats and dogs for the people who want to adopt them. See the issue?

There is a veterinarian shortage, exacerbated by more people bringing pets into their homes during the pandemic. Vet prices are going up to meet the increased demand. This is leaving more and more people and pets behind.

Underfunded government shelters can’t compete at all. Most are funded at just .2% of city and county budgets. That period is in the right place: .2%. It’s far from enough, given the literal life and death stakes. In this time that veterinary costs are rising, it means—among other things—that pets in shelters are not receiving enough medical care, and sometimes no care at all, which leads to more unnecessary death.

We’ve got a quarter of pet owners saying they’ve had to move because of their pet, and 14% of renters have had to give up their pet because they could not find pet-inclusive housing, that they could afford. We could save millions of pets, with more rentals that are affordable and welcome pets.

These are among the problems that pets, and people, need the brightest minds to solve.

Dr. Jefferson recently spoke with Triple Pundit about how companies and individuals can help end pet homelessness. Read the interview here!

We need tech innovators, entrepreneurs, and pet lovers looking to make a huge impact.

These are not quick or easy projects. These are real global issues that, if solved, will mean a completely new world for pets and the people who love them.

Here are some of the areas where we need your energy and expertise:

    • Tech to connect more people to pets in shelters, especially to help people adopt from shelters in another city or state. This is harder than it sounds—but we know with the right minds at work, excellent products and apps can do this critical job.

    • Tech for shelter resident flow tracking, like the systems used to track hospital patient flow. That will allow shelters to better manage their populations, and develop and meet goals for animals’ survival.

    • An app that will let people use their cell phones to scan pets for microchips, instead of needing to use a specialized device often found only in vets’ offices, police stations, and animal shelters. This app would make it significantly easier to get lost pets back home.

    • Other tech solutions for reuniting lost pets with their families, that anyone of any income can use—such as a free crowdsourcing app that pinpoints a pet’s location.

    • Tech and law to solve for too many vet patients and not enough veterinarians.

    • Business analysts to predict foster and adoptive capacity in any community—then build software to better facilitate pets going into foster and adoptive homes. Especially in communities with more capacity than their local shelters need, this is another instance where tech can save lives by connecting people to pets outside of their local community.

    • Tech support to build industry report cards that help any community see how they are doing in terms of pet ownership and pet equity.

    • Legislative support to overturn laws that allow for adoptable and treatable pets to be euthanized in shelters.

    • Legislative support to overturn laws that stand in the way of lifesaving cat programs like Trap Neuter Return, and to overturn breed-specific legislation—harmful laws that regulate or even prohibit dogs by breed, type, or appearance, and that lead to dogs being unable to find homes, which in turn leads to these dogs’ unnecessary death.

    • Funding for research into treatment for common diseases like distemper that affect hundreds of thousands of pets every year, but are largely overlooked by drug manufacturers.

    • Developing affordable pet products to keep pets occupied while a foster or owner is at work.

    • Affordable, healthy vegan pet food. The pet food industry is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for the rough equivalent of driving 13.6 million cars per year. Yet there is still not a good, cheap, healthy vegan pet food alternative.

    • Entrepreneurs to greatly expand the pool of affordable, pet-inclusive housing, and tech to connect people with rentals where they and their pets can live.

The majority of Americans own at least one pet. And if there is one thing we know, it’s that people LOVE their pets. In a recent national study, 98% of pet owners described their pets as family members who are as important as their human family members.

The pet industry has been growing exponentially to meet those families’ wants and needs. For the past two years, Americans have spent more than $100 billion annually on their pets.

But this boom leaves out a lot of families. Sixty-four percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Almost 1/3 of pet owners can’t afford an unexpected vet bill. Many even struggle to buy food or supplies for their pets.

The government-funded animal shelters there to support pets and people, and to take in pets whose owners can no longer keep them, are drastically underfunded for the role they are there to serve.

In a world where pets are often the most important connection we have in the world, this system is needlessly cruel and inhumane to people and the pets they call family.

So how do we bring the awesomeness of the pet boom to all pets, since we have a shared belief that pets are family? That is where you come in. We know the problems. We need your help developing the tech, entrepreneurial, and legislative solutions that will keep people and pets together, and save pets’ lives.

Blindsgalore Certified by Women’s Business Enterprise National Council

    [ad_1]

The company, run by a mother-daughter team, was certified as a woman-owned business

    Press Release

    Jan 20, 2022

Blindsgalore, a company offering high-quality window coverings at affordable prices, was recently certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Chelle Walters founded Blindsgalore as she struggled to find quality, affordable window treatments that fit her needs. Walters started Blindsgalore to offer custom window treatments that anyone at home could design. Her daughter, Alissa Walters, joined the company in 2008 as the CEO. The pair maintains their family ideals dedicated to quality, beauty and approachability with all Blindsgalore products.

“We want to be transparent about exactly who is behind the scenes at Blindsgalore so that our community can know who they are working with and so that we can hopefully become less behind the scenes,” Alissa Walters said. “Being supported by the WBENC is an honor for my mom and I as owners. We like to know who we’re working with and we know our customers do, too.”

The WBENC standard of certification is a meticulous process, including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women. Blindsgalore is 100% owned and operated by Chelle and Alissa Walters. By including women-owned businesses among their suppliers, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier diversity programs.

“There are 13 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., representing 42% of all businesses. Yet there is still a significant disparity in revenue and capital between these businesses and others,” said a spokesperson for WBENC). “WBENC is helping bridge that gap — through access to opportunities, programs that accelerate growth, and campaigns to influence consumer buying behaviors.”

Grace Family Spreading Christmas Cheer in Tampa Neighborhoods

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    Dec 21, 2021

Even with the busyness of the holidays, members of Grace Family Church prioritize making a difference in its city. For the past eight years, the Dream Center of Tampa has hosted a Christmas Shoppe with donations from Grace attendees. At the Christmas Shoppe, parents or guardians choose free gifts for their children and participate in fun family activities. This Christmas Shoppe isn’t merely a toy distribution — it’s a celebration built upon the intentional relationships with families that are developed throughout the year.

As the generosity of Grace members has increased, so have the opportunities for impact. Just last weekend, Grace hosted its second annual Kinship Christmas Shoppe at the Carrollwood location. Kinship guardians care for children that would otherwise be placed into foster families. Unfortunately, they can be overlooked during the holidays. For this reason, Grace partnered with Children’s Home Network to host a memorable shopping experience for over 100 families. Grandparents, uncles and aunts selected toys for their children, met with additional service providers, and received encouragement from pastors.

“Many of us are exhausted from having to navigate the system and advocate for these kids, but it’s what we have to do,” one kinship guardian shared with us. “So, when we come to something like this, where we can have one less thing to worry about and can just focus on the kids, it really means something.”

The holidays can be an uncertain time in the lives of many families in the community. By partnering with the Dream Center of Tampa and The Children’s Home Network to provide meaningful Christmas experiences, these caregivers are reminded that they are not alone. Grace Family Church’s vision is to give generously and strengthen families, continuing year-round.

Rlyf Ensures Seniors Are Able to Age in Place by Revolutionizing the Way Family Members Monitor Them

    [ad_1]

While senior citizens maintain their independence, families gain a sense of relief knowing their loved ones are safe

    Press Release

    updated: May 24, 2021

CheckIn LLC announces the launch of its iOS application Rlyf (pronounced “relief”), which helps senior citizens stay safe and connected to their loved ones through a simple, automated check-in that is far less intrusive than the standard wearable devices.

The Rlyf app provides family members peace of mind knowing their loved ones are okay.

CheckIn is working to revolutionize the way millions of American seniors are supported through technology. In a fast-paced, busy world, Rlyf provides a convenient and automated way to check in on loved ones.

Consider Rlyf a modern monitoring system. Rlyf enables designated contacts the ability to see the last time their senior was active, down to the minute, and provide peace of mind knowing they are okay. Rlyf is the first app to be launched to market using automation and eliminates the need for a wearable when one is not needed or wanted.

“Some time ago, my grandmother fell while at her house and laid there unsure how long it would be until one of us family members came to check in on her. She refuses to wear a ‘send help’ button, and I can’t blame her because it’s embarrassing and costly. So, I knew there had to be a better way to check in on my grandma daily without being intrusive to her life. Rlyf is providing me peace knowing she is okay and providing her comfort knowing her family is checking in on her,” said co-founder Cody Perryman.

A recent Pew Research study found that 27% of adults ages 60 and older live alone. Also, CBS News recently found that 47% of adults believe it’s okay to communicate with their parents once a week or less. Hundreds of thousands of senior citizens are living alone with limited personal contact with loved ones. Rlyf helps bridge the gap by providing real-time updates to those who may not speak very often with their parent(s). With more baby boomers retiring, young families moving to the cities, and the pandemic preventing people from seeing their loved ones, checking in on family and friends to ensure they are okay is more paramount than ever.

Concerned loved ones and seniors alike can download the Rlyf app today within the iOS App Store. Rlyf is offering lifetime memberships starting at $4.99 for a limited time. Download Rlyf today here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/rlyf/id1528908361.

First-Ever On-Demand Online Service Provides Critical Assistance to Parents, Employers & Child Care Providers

    Press Release

    updated: May 13, 2021

Vista Community Clinic, a federally recognized and award-winning health care institution in Southern California, has partnered with TOOTRiS to integrate real-time Child Care services for the Clinic’s employees. TOOTRiS’ on-demand platform provides Vista Community Clinic’s employees access to thousands of Child Care providers and afterschool programs in their area, reducing challenges that arise from staff not having affordable and available options for their children.

TOOTRiS is a first-of-its-kind SaaS platform that allows parents to view real-time inventory of available Child Care and afterschool program slots – all accessible online via a desktop or mobile device. For employers, TOOTRiS acts as an extension of employee wellness programs, making it easy for working parents to find Child Care, which is proven to reduce absenteeism and turnover costs while increasing diversity and inclusion.

Last year, about 52% of working parents had work interruptions due to lack of Child Care support/availability, according to a Move.org survey. TOOTRiS’ turnkey Child Care services empower Vista Community Clinic’s working parents – especially women – by delivering real-time access to thousands of diverse programs, enabling them to find, communicate with, enroll in and pay for programs, all while completely contactless. This allows parents at Vista Community Clinic to stay focused and remain in the workforce, while supporting their children’s development.

Vista Community Clinic’s Community Health Centers – which treat more than 69,000 patients every year – are all located in Southern California, one of the most difficult regions to find Child Care.

“Diversifying our employee wellness program by providing new family-focused offerings like Child Care assistance aligns well with our organization’s culture and values,” said Fernando Sañudo, CEO of Vista Community Clinic. “Locating Child Care has been a stressful, time-consuming burden for many of our working parents. We are excited to partner with TOOTRiS to provide our employees with relief, while helping us better fulfill our mission of providing access to premier health services and education for those in our community who need it most.”

As part of the partnership, Vista Community Clinic’s workforce now has a dedicated portal, access to TOOTRiS’ large network of Child Care providers, from infant care to school-aged and afterschool programs, and receives 24/7 personalized support from TOOTRiS’ Early Childhood Education team.

“Vista Community Clinic’s new Child Care assistance program highlights its deep commitment to its workforce and supporting true work/life balance,” said TOOTRiS CEO Alessandra Lezama. “By expanding their benefits programs to include Child Care solutions, Vista Community Clinic continues to lead as an innovator in employee development and wellness, and we are happy to add their organization to the growing list of employers who now offer TOOTRiS’ to their staff.”

TOOTRiS acts as a trusted partner and benefit administrator to help employers such as Vista Community Clinic improve employee wellness. In February 2021, TOOTRiS was recognized by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce for its efforts supporting employers with Child Care solutions, receiving the coveted Moving San Diego Forward award.

“With our turnkey Child Care platform, we empower more parents to return and remain in the workforce with complete peace of mind,” Lezama said. “Organizations that offer Child Care as a Benefit create a positive environment where employees feel more supported, valued and encouraged to continue advancing their careers.”

    About TOOTRiS
TOOTRiS is reinventing Child Care, making it convenient, affordable and on-demand. As the world shifts to digitalized services, TOOTRiS helps parents and providers connect and transact in real-time, empowering working parents – especially women – to secure quality Child Care, while allowing providers to unlock their potential and fully monetize their program. TOOTRiS is creating a new digital economy that promotes entrepreneurial opportunities for individuals with passion and talent to become Child Care providers, improving their quality of life while increasing the much-needed supply of Child Care across the state. TOOTRiS’ unique technology enables employers to provide fully managed Child Care Benefits, giving their workforce the flexibility and family support paramount to regaining employee productivity and increasing their ROI. • Austin Pets Alive! | Where is Charlie Now? Our 1,000th Pet Transport

Austin Pets Alive! | Where is Charlie Now? Our 1,000th Pet Transport

    [ad_1]

    Apr 19, 2021

When the winter storm hit a few months back, a lot of shelters in Texas were facing one of the hardest decisions they had to make. They needed to get their animals out to a safe shelter or be left with the choice that no shelter ever wants to make, euthanasia. A lot of these shelters are in rural parts of the state where the kennels are outside and their access to resources is always limited, especially during a weather crisis. That is when Austin Pets Alive! and our national division, American Pets Alive!, sprang into action. We made it our mission to get 1,000 pets out of Texas safely to shelters all across the United States. In a matter of just four weeks, we hit our goal with our 1,000th pet being an adorable cat named Charlie.

Charlie traveled all the way from Loredo, TX to KC Pet Project in Kansas. His journey up north was made special by having a first-class seat in a private plane flown by our volunteer pilot friend, David Nelson. Once he landed at KC Pet Project, it was only a matter of days until he found his forever home. We took a moment to hear from his adopter, Kathryn, to see how our 1,000th pet is doing.

It turns out that Kathryn and her husband are both originally from Texas so adopting Charlie who came from Texas as well felt like it was a perfect fit.We felt like he was our cat from the moment we saw him. Knowing we came from the same place just cemented that feeling.”

You might be wondering what made them choose KC Pet Project and why they felt now was the right time to adopt. It turns out after mourning the cat that they had for over 18 years who died in 2020, they were ready to bring another family member into their life in 2021. They are an “adopt don’t shop” type of family so Kathryn said going to KC Pet Project was a no-brainer.Their mission and their compassion made them the perfect place for us.”

“Charlie (as my husband and I call him), “Fluffy Ball”(as my 5 YO calls him), is full of energy and has brought a lot of humor to our house,” Kathryn gushed when asked about what their family loves about Charlie. “As a 7-month-old cat, he bounces around the house constantly, nipping at our legs when we walk by, chasing toys and balls, jumping on beds… so that has been a source of enjoyment for all of us. He is also extremely gentle and patient with our daughter. She gets in his face, kisses him constantly, follows him around, and he is totally gentle with her and never seems to get tired of her attention.”

It’s clear that Charlie is now living the good life with his new family in Kansas City, surrounded by love and affection every single day. It’s heartbreaking to think what his future would have been if he didn’t get the chance to be transported to KC Pet Project, which is why Kathryn wanted to leave you all with this message. “Adopt, don’t shop! There are so many wonderful animals that need a good home. Also, VOLUNTEER! KC Pet Project has wonderful volunteers and plenty of opportunities for individuals and families to volunteer at their beautiful facilities. Make it your mission to make a difference in animals’ lives, whether through adoption or volunteering at the organizations who help them.”

Austin Pets Alive! is always in need of volunteers, and there are various ways you can do so! From walking dogs to feeding bottle baby kittens, to even transporting pets like Charlie from rural shelters to our doors here in Austin; the list is endless. If you are reading this from the Kansas City area, you can find all of KC Pet Project’s volunteer information on their website as well. We wish Charlie a happily ever after with his new family!

PURAFILM™ Antimicrobial Film, Jointly Developed in Japan, Now Available to Public

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 30, 2020

Following extensive University research and testing in Japan, a new antimicrobial product called PURAFILM™ was recently made available to the public. According to the makers, PURAFILM™, the transparent, new film deactivates pathogens commonly found on non-porous interior surfaces, such as countertops, desks, door handles, staircase handrails, kitchen islands, TV remotes and more.

Jointly developed by the New Energy and Industry Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and the University of Tokyo, PURAFILM™ is toxic-free, easy-to-apply and reacts to visible light by quickly inactivating pathogens. The company says that PURAFILM™ can be easily cut to fit virtually any household, non-porous surface – from kitchen islands to home office desks – providing a robust layer of antimicrobial protection.

According to the developers, PURAFILM™ has been shown in research studies to quickly inactivate viruses and bacteria. Unlike disinfectant sprays, liquids and wipes, consumers don’t have to worry about PURAFILM™ losing its potency or having to continually reapply it. Once adhered to countertops, door handles and the like, PURAFILM™ adds a permanent layer of antimicrobial protection.

When PURAFILM™ is exposed to light, its antimicrobial components, including solid-state cuprous oxide (Cu2O) or copper oxide, produce an invisible chemical reaction that alters the proteins on the surface of pathogenic viruses and bacteria, rendering them deactivated. In university testing, PURAFILM™ was shown to deactivate 99% of a virus in just two hours.

PURAFILM™ is easy-to-use, toxic-free and SAFE around people of all ages. PURAFILM™ is designed to provide permanent antimicrobial protection year-after-year

Parents in particular are expected to appreciate PURAFILM™.  With children running in and out of the house, keeping surfaces disinfected all day with sprays and wipes is virtually impossible. And there’s no guarantee that right after cleaning a surface that more pathogens won’t be taking their place. With PURAFILM™, just apply it once to any high-touch surface and there’s nothing else to do other than occasional cleaning with warm water and soap.

For parents sending their children to school in today’s germ conscious era, PURAFILM™ is expected to play a role. Parents can apply PURAFILM™ on lunch boxes, backpack handles, books, pencils, desks and chairs for added protection and a little more peace of mind.”

Baby Care Brand green sprouts® Announces Launch of Reusable Face Masks for Adults and Children

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: May 27, 2020

With the continued impact of COVID-19 and in response to the global need for face masks, baby product and lifestyle brand green sprouts® is launching a collection of Reusable Face Masks to support families and communities through this time.

green sprouts® provides a full range of healthy, trusted, and proven everyday baby essentials that support whole development for children. With child health, safety, and well-being at the heart of its business, developing face masks to help combat the virus was a clear choice. The company is prioritizing development efforts to produce non-medical reusable face masks for both children and adults so that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can be reserved for medical professionals that need it most. In further support, green sprouts® will donate 10% of masks sold to organizations or essential workers in need.

With the CDC’s recommendation for the public to wear cloth face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19, green sprouts® Reusable Face Masks serve as a reminder to keep the wearer’s hands away from the face, while helping to protect others in case they are sick. The company explains that, like other cloth masks, it may not prevent contraction of COVID-19 and encourages additional precautions such as frequent handwashing and social distancing.

The Reusable Face Masks feature a water-resistant outer layer and wicking lining for comfort, with a built-in activated carbon layer that helps adsorb impurities for fresh airflow. The structured, breathable, and lightweight design lays comfortably on the face, with elastic ear loop straps for a custom fit. Unlike disposable masks, the green sprouts® mask is washable and can be worn multiple times to save resources and reduce waste. An included storage bag makes it easy to take on essential errands and helps keep the mask clean after washing and while not in use.

green sprouts® has over 100,000 masks shipping in May, with more available in coming months. The Reusable Face Masks are available in three youth and adult sizes in solid colors that are easy to coordinate and a child-size with five custom prints in the colorful, fun green sprouts®-style familiar to parents and children from the company’s Swim Wear and Bib collections.

“During this difficult time, we are adapting to do whatever we can to assist our global community,” said Becky Cannon, President and founder of Green Sprouts, Inc. “We hope to help give families, essential workers, and others in need the resources to continue caring for their health and that of their children, as we all work through this together.”

Since 1982, the woman-owned and -operated company Green Sprouts, Inc. has closely collaborated with customers and suppliers to provide baby products that support whole development, along with resources for parenting naturally. Visit greensproutsbaby.com to purchase Reusable Face Masks and learn more.

Super Soccer Stars Announces Up to 5,000 Free Online Classes to Front-Line Medical Workers and Affected Families Nationwide Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: May 13, 2020

Effective today, Soccer Stars has launched Soccer Stars for All, making available up to 5,000 open spots in its online classes free to front-line medical workers, families negatively impacted by school closures and families who can benefit from financial assistance.

“We recognize that families around the world are facing financial and workplace hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic and we want to help,” said Adam Geisler, Chief Executive Officer of Super Soccer Stars. “So we are thrilled to announce that we have launched our Soccer Stars for All initiative, which will make online classes more accessible to families whose caregivers are front line workers or are otherwise struggling to keep their children happy, healthy, active and engaged.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting “social distancing” efforts that have closed schools and recreation programs across the United States, Soccer Stars has stepped up their offerings of athletic coaching and activities for children by developing a digital curriculum, which keeps children’s bodies and minds active while at the same time incorporating socialization with coaches, classmates and teammates to encourage safe, social interaction.

“During the past two months when students remained home without being provided the physical education portion of their school’s mandate, Soccer Stars has actively invested in online video, live streaming coaching sessions and other digital activities in order to continue serving families, as we have done for the last 20 years,” said Geisler. “Like most small businesses, we have had to make many difficult decisions, but moving soccer classes online has allowed us to keep our coaches engaged and employed, and more than anything, they continue to make kids smile every day.”

The Soccer Stars for All initiative is providing up to 5,000 spots in virtual classes for children ages 1-12 and is taking place between May 20, 2020 and June 28, 2020.  Enrollment in current virtual classes with available capacity will be on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to one class per week per child throughout the duration of the program.

Families of front-line medical workers and those who are experiencing hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic who would like to apply for these classes can fill out the application online at https://bit.ly/3bhDBGW.

New York-based Super Soccer Stars was founded in 2000 and is the largest corporately run youth soccer program in the country. Super Soccer Stars’ goal is to use the soccer ball as a vehicle to help children improve their soccer skills while at the same time building self-confidence, enhancing gross motor skills, honing socialization skills, and developing physical literacy. Dynamic local and international coaches work with small groups of boys and girls to develop these skills and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Super Soccer Stars operates in 25+ major markets reaching over 110,000 children each year. Additional information is available at http://www.soccerstars.com.

Online learning series demonstrates how a volunteer network of friends can leverage technology to create human connection and compelling content during the pandemic lockdown

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 30, 2020

Conceived over a few days in mid-March as the scope of the COVID-19 situation grew increasingly clear, a volunteer community service project – Quarantine Academy – was quickly developed among a group of friends to provide free learning opportunities for adults and children. Launched before schools and many businesses had fully developed a structure around online learning and work, it quickly became an international success.

Over the last six weeks, Quarantine Academy offered 75 online sessions with 58 different presenters. Topics included how to raise urban chickens, the secrets of South Asian percussion, a TikTok tutorial for adults, a deep dive into the U.S. court system, and much more. “Student Superintendents,” who ranged from 14 to 17, took the lead for both Quarantine Academy and Quarantine Academy Kids by coordinating with presenters and mediating the sessions. The 25-minute sessions averaged almost 400 participants a week from across the United States and around the world.

“One of the best things about Quarantine Academy,” said 17-year old Student Superintendent Katie Stansel, “was creating a platform to connect so many different talents and interesting people. It was also a great way to stay productive before school schedules implemented their routines.”

“We had people both teaching and learning from all over the world – from Italy, California, New York, and everywhere in between,” said Adam Sherinian, another volunteer Student Superintendent. He added, “What connects us in a crisis is the need to be with other people. When it can’t be in your living room, you just have to do it on Zoom.”

Quarantine Academy concludes this Friday, May 1, with some discussion about possibly continuing special sessions this summer. In addition to providing unique and accessible learning opportunities early in the pandemic, this endeavor is an example of how a casual network of friends and colleagues can quickly respond to a community need using technology and sharing expertise.

New Museum Expected to Draw More Than 35,000 Visitors a Year to City’s Museum District

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 12, 2020

Officials with the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience (MSJE) announced the new museum will open in fall 2020 in New Orleans. Exhibits will explore the ways Jews in the American South influenced and were influenced by their communities, covering 13 states and more than 300 years of history – including Colonial, Civil War, World War II and the Civil Rights Movement.

“This will be the only museum in the country to focus exclusively on the history and culture of Jews across the South,” said Jay Tanenbaum, museum chairman.

Multimedia exhibits will illustrate how Jewish immigrants and succeeding generations adapted to life in the South, forming bonds of deep friendship and community with their non-Jewish neighbors. The Museum will also address issues of race and anti-Semitism and the many ways that Southern Jews navigated them at different times.

New Orleans was chosen as the museum’s home based on the city’s vibrant tourism economy, long Jewish history and historical connection to the broader southern region. MSJE will be located in the city’s “Museum District,” in proximity to the National WWII Museum, Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Contemporary Art Center.

The Museum’s collection of more than 7,000 artifacts was transferred from the original Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience, established in 1986 at Jacobs Camp in Utica, Mississippi, and shuttered in 2012. Tanenbaum explained, “The museum’s mission changed and grew into the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi. In order to reimagine and grow, the museum separated from the Institute, giving it the independence to become a world-class attraction.”

MSJE is working with Gallagher & Associates, an internationally recognized museum planning and design firm responsible for award-winning experiences at scores of international projects including the National Museum of American Jewish History, the National College Football Hall of Fame and the National WWII Museum.

The Museum is expected to appeal to a wide array of visitors. “You don’t have to be Jewish and you don’t have to be Southern to relate,” said executive director Kenneth Hoffman. “Our hope is that visitors come away with an expanded understanding of what it means to be a Jew, what it means to be a Southerner and, ultimately, what it means to be an American.”

Museum officials encourage members of the public to consider donating artifacts to the collection, especially items from early Jewish history (1800s), items related to the stories of women and people of color or any item with a strong connection to a personal story of Southern Jewish life.
