10 Strategies for Surviving Christmas Season With Family

    [ad_1]

Note: I am writing this article from my perspective of the holiday season, which is very Christmas-centric. Having said that, I believe that at least some of these hints can be applied to other holiday celebrations.

The holidays are promoted, to an almost obnoxious level, as being a time of great joy and merriment. Families come around, delicious food is eaten, presents are exchanged, and a wonderful time is had by all.

    In theory.

In actuality, the reality is not so clear-cut. For many of us, the holiday season is one of the most stressful times of the year, for any number of reasons. Some of us have tense relationships with people we are obliged to spend time with during the holidays. Others dislike the way the holiday season deviates from our normal schedules. Still others associate the holidays with negative emotions and/or experiences.

I enjoy the holidays myself, but I would be lying if I said there haven’t been times when I’ve been anxious or stressed out despite all the festive cheer around me. To help me get through those difficult moments, I use the following ten tactics I’ve picked up over the years. It’s my hope that this advice will prove useful for you, too!

    1. Go Through Your Gifts

If your holiday celebrations involve giving and receiving gifts, you may find yourself with a collection of presents waiting to be given closer attention. And if you feel anxious, stressed, or sad at any point, you may find it therapeutic to sit down and give that collection of presents the attention it needs.

Perhaps you received a puzzle or game you want to try out. Maybe you got art supplies or something sports-related that you could test. Or you might have received gifts that you can spend time organising, putting away, or displaying. Spending time with your new possessions can be a useful way to step away, take a breath, and appreciate what you have been given.

    2. Prepare Drinks/Snacks

This is a particularly useful tactic when the need arises to step out, perhaps because the room has become too crowded or noisy, or the topic of conversation is upsetting to you.

Should you need to leave, ask if anybody needs a drink or snack refill. If you’re worried about looking rude or suspicious, the promise of bringing back nourishment for others could help assuage that worry. Also, the physical act of preparing drinks or snacks could help relieve some of the stress and anxiety you might be feeling.

    3. Have a Book, Game, or Craft Project Handy

I often had to go to big Christmas celebrations with masses of people when I was a child. I would frequently want to remain in the same space as the people I was with, but also not want to engage in conversation. If the other people weren’t bothered by this, I found that having a book or video game with me made that possible.

If the other people wanted me to at least appear as though I was a part of the conversation, I found that having a craft project with me (a cross-stitch or a work of crochet, for example) enabled me to look like I was involved without being fully involved. The best activity to have handy depends entirely on the situation. But the idea is to have a way to “leave” the space, all without physically leaving the space.

    4. Establish Banned Topics of Conversation

Some of us dread the holiday season because of the possibility for certain topics of conversation — topics that upset us greatly — to be brought up. These topics could be anything, but some of the more common ones I have come across include dieting and weight loss, religion, federal politics, and problematic acquaintances.

If there are conversation topics you don’t want discussed while you’re around, I would highly recommend requesting that those topics be banned ahead of time. Alternatively, if you don’t feel confident requesting the ban yourself, you could recruit somebody you trust to request it for you.

I realise this may sound like a drastic measure to some, and it might be impossible for others, but if you’re able to do it, it could save you a lot of unnecessary distress.

    5. Tell Your Family and Friends How You’re Feeling

If you’re lucky enough to spend your holidays with people you trust with your emotions, being honest and telling them how you’re feeling might be hugely beneficial. Explain that you’re not feeling well, explain why (if you can), and let them know if there’s anything they can do. Sometimes the simple act of talking about our feelings is enough to relieve them. If the feelings are still there, at least now other people know and might be able to help.

Unfortunately, many people do not get to spend their holidays with people they trust. If that is the case, the next tactic might be more useful.

    6. Have a Friend on Contactable Standby

Some of us are obligated to spend our holidays in places, or with people, that cause us distress. If that sounds like you, one thing you might find helpful is to have somebody you trust whom you can contact. You may only be able to contact them by text, or by a daily phone call, but as long as there’s some sort of connection between the two of you, this tactic should work.

The idea is that you keep connected to somebody you trust, somebody who represents safety, while you are away. This will hopefully relieve some of your holiday stress.

    7. Spend Time with a Trustworthy Person

I have anxiety troubles myself, and my anxiety can come forward at random moments during the holiday season. When that happens, I like to ask my brother to play a board game with me. Why do I ask my brother? Because he is a fun person to be around, he cheers me up, and I know he won’t do or say anything that will make me more anxious. Board games happen to be an activity that my brother and I enjoy doing together, but any sort of joint activity with a trustworthy person will achieve the same result.

    8. Have a Nap

Sometimes everything about the holidays is too much, and the best solution is to take a break from them for a short period of time. If you are the sort of person who falls asleep easily, then a nap is probably the best, safest, and healthiest way to take that break. Napping also has the benefit of refreshing the body and mind, so the holiday season may be easier to handle once you wake up.

    9. Go for a Walk

Following the point above, you might need to take a break from the holidays but not be able to easily fall asleep. If that is the case, walking is another alternative. The act of putting on shoes, going outside, breathing in the fresh air and pounding the pavement offers a brief change of perspective that you might find beneficial. Additionally, the feeling of your body moving, and the fresher air getting into your lungs, could help to work out some of your holiday stress.

    10. Stick to Your Routine as Much as Possible

Many people find comfort and stability in our routines. The holiday season tends to force us to deviate from our routines, which can be destabilising and, consequently, stressful. If you are somebody who functions better with routine, the holiday season might be less stressful if you stick to your routine as well as you can.

Try to do things like wake up at your normal time, do your regular exercise, eat your standard breakfast (as opposed to fancy “holiday” breakfasts), make your bed, check your email, and so on. You might find that you only need to do a few specific things to feel like you’re sticking to your routine, or you might find that you need to follow your routine to the maximum. Whatever it takes, if you can achieve that same sense of stability your routine usually provides, that should reduce your stress levels.

The holidays are a challenging time for a lot of us. But if you have some strategies in place to help you see them through, they hopefully will not be as challenging as they otherwise could be. As always, the most important thing is that you take care of yourself.

    Happy holidays, everybody.

  • Former Rams QB Jeff Kemp Kicks Off the NFL Pre-Season With Honolulu Blitz

Former Rams QB Jeff Kemp Kicks Off the NFL Pre-Season With Honolulu Blitz

    [ad_1]

Jeff Kemp’s blood simmers at this time of the year, and it’ll come to full boil during “NFL Pre-Season Week” in Honolulu. He’ll be speaking at eight events and rallies in Honolulu from Aug. 13-18. He’ll also be at Aloha Stadium on Saturday as his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, locks horns with the Dallas Cowboys in the first Hawaii NFL pre-season game in 43 years.

In the spirit of Aloha, the Jeff Kemp Team Honolulu Blitz aims to uplift students and athletes, dads and coaches, men and marriages. A team of organizations is hosting Jeff on a wave of Aloha Spirit to celebrate Faith, Family and Football.

In his 11 NFL seasons, Kemp proved, against huge odds as a free agent, that he knows how to win as a team. He quarterbacked the Rams to the playoffs in 1984 and helped lead the playoff-bound San Francisco 49ers in 1986, tossing 11 touchdowns in six games while replacing the injured Joe Montana. Kemp also played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles.

After football, he’s spent almost three decades leading organizations to strengthen families, marriages and men. He’s a Fatherhood Ambassador for the Fatherhood CoMission and serves men, CEOs and organizations through Jeff Kemp Team.

His father, the late Jack Kemp, was a championship Buffalo Bills quarterback before having a widely admired political career as a U.S. Congressman, member of President George H.W. Bush’s cabinet and candidate for Vice President. Measuring up to that status was impossible for Jeff.

“I’ve been benched, booed, traded and cut. I learned the hard way that my identity and worth are not in my title or performance.”

Jeff openly relates to students, Millennials and men who feel the pressure of bullying, comparison, isolation and not feeling valued or loved.

“We all have insecurities and flaws … the struggles of pride, selfishness and destructive habits. I want everyone to know that they are valuable and loved. We don’t have to be the ‘star’ or have the most ‘likes’ to be ourselves.”

Jeff will bring humor, honesty and hope as he tells stories of football, family and faith. He’s the author of Facing the Blitz – Three Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs. Jeff and his wife, Stacy, have four married sons.

“I loved the intensity and teamwork of the NFL. But, even more, I love building families and teamwork to grow champions who receive love and give love. That’s why the Jeff Kemp Team is in Hawaii.” Here’s what others are saying about Honolulu Blitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_vRNplxWPk.

    JEFF KEMP BIO

Jeff Kemp is a champion for strengthening relationships and teamwork. His message and coaching bring honesty and hopeful vision to organizations, businesses and families seeking to turn life’s troubles into triumph and succeed through teamwork.

Jeff’s team-building approach was influenced by his father, 49er coach Bill Walsh, business authority Pat Lencioni and relationship experts over his three decades lifting families.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. He and his dad Jack Kemp, the late Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, were the first of only six sets of NFL father-son quarterbacks. In his 11 NFL seasons, Jeff quarterbacked for the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco Forty-Niners, Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles. In the off-seasons, he earned his MBA from Pepperdine University, focused on speaking and campaigned for his dad’s presidential nomination.

Jeff’s football career was a rollercoaster, going from fourth string to first string, from the bench to the playoffs and from winning to getting traded. He’s beaten the blitz on Monday Night Football and been cut midseason as a starting QB. He helped his teams and teammates, both on and off the field. Those highs, lows and epic team experiences set the stage for a career of serving others, building teamwork and helping people from all walks of life overcome adversity.

After the NFL, Jeff worked to improve the lives of children by strengthening marriages and families. He founded and led Stronger Families for 18 years and then served as a Vice President and Catalyst at FamilyLife, an international leader nurturing marriages and families. At Jeff Kemp Team, his mission is investing in relationships and teamwork – helping CEOs and businesses, men’s groups and marriages.

Jeff’s sweet spot is casting vision and uniting teams. He has delivered presentations to more than 1,300 audiences, including IBM, Northwestern Mutual, American Petroleum Institute, Young Presidents Organization, and Interstate Battery. Jeff has keynoted at hundreds of non-profit groups like governor’s prayer breakfasts, Athletes in Action Super Bowl breakfast, men’s retreats and the Billy Graham Crusade.

Facing the Blitz- Three Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs” was released in 2015. People remark that Jeff’s transparent stories and concepts are powerful, easy-to-remember and actionable. With self-deprecating humor and vulnerability, Jeff helps people embrace change, serve others and turn problems into positives. For more information about Facing the Blitz, visit http://facingtheblitz.com.

Early in his NFL career, Jeff married Stacy. They have four married sons and two grandsons. They love to mentor young couples, play tennis, ski as a family and speak for the FamilyLife Weekend to Remember marriage getaways.

New App TimeSpring is Bringing Families Together in Unprecedented Ways

    [ad_1]

TimeSpring, a new future messaging app is changing how families share stories and save memories for the holidays.

    Press Release

    updated: Nov 26, 2018

TimeSpring, a future message app is bringing families together in the most surprising ways. Even Grandma and Grandpa are getting onboard with this latest trend in photo-sharing. It works like other photo sharing apps, but with a twist: Users can write, and schedule messages and images to be delivered to someone years into the future. When a child is mature enough to grasp concepts and appreciate memories, they will have stored messages that will be unlocked at special milestones in their life.

This season, instead of just capturing these moments and sharing on social media, parents and grandparents can share their holiday memories by sending photos and video directly to their children and schedule them to be delivered in five, ten, or twenty years into the future. It is an elegant solution to the masses of photos that parents accumulated on their phones.

Why not send a memory forward and ensure that it is saved for the next generation?

    Felice Bernard, Founder of TimeSpring

Felice Bernard, founder of TimeSpring and a mom of three, was faced with the questions that most parents in this modern age face: What do you do with all those digital images, and will children ever get to hear the stories behind them? So she created TimeSpring to save those special moments and to create a way for her kids to experience them too.

Bernard says, “It’s challenging to save special photos and video in a meaningful way which is why TimeSpring is needed. Why not send a memory forward and ensure that it is saved for the next generation. I mean, we all have those uneasy thoughts when we get on an airplane from time to time, and it’s comforting to know that my kids will have messages waiting for them.”

This holiday season, as commercials and advertisements brand their technology to be the hearth of a family, sometimes, technology does bring people closer together and even bridge the gaps between generations and time.

Rarely does the public witness a cinematic re-release of a Hollywood movie. To be granted such an opportunity, a film must qualify for a number of “special circumstances.”

“The Letters” was predicted to reel in high box office numbers upon its release in December 2015. An epic biopic about Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, best known to the world as Mother Teresa, the film won multiple top awards in film festivals across the globe. This includes Best Picture and Audience Choice Award at the Sedona International Film Festival, and Best Director and Best Actress at the International Catholic Film Festival in Vatican City.

However, things took a turn when the film encountered what distributors would later call “unexpected circumstances and unusually bad timing.” Two days before “The Letters” released in theaters nationwide, the San Bernardino terrorist attack took place. News outlets warned the public to stay away from facilities such as movie theaters –resulting in dismal box office results for all films released that weekend.

Despite low box office results, “The Letters” earned impressive sales numbers in both international markets and the home entertainment market. The film also received high marks from the public on the popular streaming site, Netflix.

These results garnered the attention of Alan J. Elias, Chief Executive Officer of OnBuzz, who found the film worthy of re-release in the U.S. OnBuzz’s unique distribution model is unlike any other in Hollywood, and the results speak for themselves. OnBuzz plans to re-release “The Letters” on September 4, 2018, to celebrate the second anniversary of Mother Teresa’s canonization.

To avoid any similar effect on this re-release, social impact film company, OnBuzz, will utilize their unique Social Impact Strategy to market to the film’s target audience — churchgoers. OnBuzz will implement interactive kiosks in churches and mega-churches across the nation. The kiosks have proven to drive up social media shares, increasing the network of potential audience members which, in turn, drives up ticket sales. In addition, the company will tap into the same network of churches and churchgoers for the OnBuzz distributed film, Tortured for Christ, which became the most successful independent film in the nation for a one-day theatrical event during the week of its release.

Social Impact is at the heart of OnBuzz’s unique strategy. A portion of ticket sales will support Mully Children’s Family, Charles Mully’s nonprofit that cares for orphaned and vulnerable children in communities throughout Kenya. Considered by many to be a modern-day Mother Teresa, Mully created his nonprofit out of his experience as an orphaned child. By connecting “The Letters” and “Mully,” OnBuzz highlights Mother Teresa’s life work and simultaneously raises awareness and donations for Mully’s children’s charity.

It is said that “it’s not over ’til it’s over” and with “The Letters,” it seems that it is not over yet. Stay tuned for more “buzz” as OnBuzz prepares to release “The Letters” this September.

OnBuzz is an end-to-end film financing, production, distribution, and marketing firm focused on sustainable filmmaking.

Christian Film Beats the Odds, Tops Box Office Charts Using Unique Social Impact Strategy

    Press Release

    updated: Jul 3, 2018

“Tortured for Christ,” an independent faith-based film, relays the true story of Romanian Pastor Richard Wurmbrand and the 14 years he spent in a Communist prison enduring torture and persecution for his Christian faith. The film was produced by Wurmbrand’s nonprofit organization, The Voice of the Martyrs, to honor the 50th anniversary of the pastor’s international best-selling book that recounted his persecution, also titled “Tortured for Christ.”

In the week of March 5, 2018, “Tortured for Christ” earned its spot as the most successful independent film in the nation for a one-day theatrical event. With 477 screening events held in theaters and churches nationwide and 62,644 single tickets pre-sold for a Monday night premiere, “Tortured for Christ” generated $783,300 in revenue and surpassed all competing major film studios. The film’s unsuspecting box office success was made possible by OnBuzz’s unique Social Impact Strategy.

OnBuzz, an Austin-based social impact film company, utilized Data-Driven Marketing to yield high ticket sales by tapping into resources provided by The Voice of the Martyrs. OnBuzz accessed target audiences currently involved in the “Tortured for Christ” brand, contact the organization’s supporters and individuals personally influenced by Wurmbrand.

Tracking the received data allowed OnBuzz to organize theater and church screenings in zip codes with the highest volume of VOM supporters. Ticket sales occurred in advance, and screenings were not greenlit until the desired threshold was met thus reducing costs and eliminating the risk of low audience capacity. This method successfully encouraged ticket holders to share screening events through social media platforms, increasing potential audience networks, which resulted in an influx of ticket sales.

Emphasizing the social impact potential of “Tortured for Christ” appeals to Christians and Christian communities seeking deeper discussion while raising awareness around religious persecution. In addition to receiving a copy of Wurmbrand’s book with each ticket order, a portion of ticket proceeds are used to help persecuted Christians around the world. According to a 2017 report released by the Pew Research Center, Christians fall victim to government restrictions and social hostilities in 64.65% of countries around the globe.

The effectiveness of the Social Impact Strategy outlasts the film’s premiere; 640 “Tortured for Christ” screenings have taken place across the country to date with more events scheduled daily. OnBuzz continuously seeks more faith and family content to market using their innovative strategy. They see these films as more than just movies but as movements.

OnBuzz is an end-to-end film financing, production, distribution, and marketing firm focused on sustainable filmmaking.

    Press Release

    updated: Jun 5, 2018

Parents now have a new and improved mobile device resource available to them. Tittle for Parents is a smart parenting solution that allows parents to both protect their children on mobile devices and teach about safe and appropriate use. Younger children have access to cell phones now more than ever before. Parents enjoy the accessibility of being able to connect with their children more readily, but they also have concerns about safety, the content children are accessing, and excessive screen time. Tittle for Parents addresses all these concerns.

Developed with parents in mind, Tittle for Parents aims to help them seek a balance with mobile device control, protection and discipline while also offering new features like tasks and web tracking. Instead of banning usage completely, Tittle strives to provide parents with a tool they can use to encourage a safe and responsible user experience for their kids.

Tittle for Parents comes with a multitude of features for parents’ different needs. By allowing parents to block or enable the Internet and apps like games and social media, parents can limit or change a child’s access in his/her mobile device more effectively. Parents can also establish house rules like less screen time and more device-free hours by setting up multiple schedules in the app to limit usage during school, meal times, family time, and bedtime.

The location and geofencing features in the app also enable parents to track and be updated on the children’s location. In addition, Tittle for Parents now has a new web tracking feature that gives parents the access to review their child’s website history when their child surfs the net with Tittle’s custom browser, providing a safeguard from inappropriate content by easily blocking URLs.

Adding on to the myriad of features is the new task feature, which parents can use to create simple tasks for their children, such as specific chores so children gain a sense of responsibility. Parents are encouraged to set goals and rewards to motivate their children. A communication feature enables parents and kids to send each other messages for each task.

The Tittle for Parents app team is dedicated to making the app as user-friendly as possible so set up is easy for all. Parents can pair their device with their child’s right in the app, all without having to log into another browser or app. Navigation within the app is a breeze for even non-tech savvy parents.

The latest update is now available in both Google Play Store and App Store. Download now to enjoy the full features for 14 days. Visit tittleforparents.com for more information.

How will people be sharing in 2030? A look into TimeSpring’s data shows some surprising facts about how people will be sharing.

    Press Release

    updated: May 29, 2018

How will people be sharing in 2030? A look at TimeSpring’s data shows some surprising facts about how people are sharing today, and how they will be sharing in the future.

With a quick glance at Instagram or scroll down a Facebook feed, it’s safe to say that sharing details about one’s daily activities in the present moment whether it be eating avocado toast or showing the world a new haircut, is a trend that’s here to stay. While Snapchat provides the world with ephemeral sharing, in which snaps only last for a matter of seconds, Facebook continues to launch features like Messenger Day, WhatsApp status, Facebook Stories, and advancements in live streaming, it begs the question: What will be the next new way to share?

TimeSpring was created so that parents and grandparents could send a picture or video, write a note today, and send it forward, providing the security of documenting that moment in time for them to experience when they are older.

    Felice Bernard

Although sharing in real-time is a crucial part of daily lives, future-sharing is, well, the future. Passing down photos and memories has long been a part of the human experience; yet, surprisingly, there’s been little technological advancement to make sending a message to the future possible. Before TimeSpring, sending a message forward was only the stuff of everyone’s favorite literature and movies #TheDeLorian.

Time-released messaging, pioneered by TimeSpring, Inc., enables people to share with anyone at any age, including children, years into the future. Parents and grandparents can create accounts for children too young for email and send a photo or video with a message and have it scheduled to be delivered when the child is old enough to understand and appreciate the memory.

The mom of three, Felice Bernard, at 30 years old was faced with the questions that most parents in this modern age face: What does one do with all those digital images, and will kids ever get to hear the stories behind them? So she created TimeSpring because she not only wanted to save those special moments but to create a way for her kids to experience them too.

This apps works like other photo sharing apps, but with a twist: Pick a photo or video, write a message, and schedule the date to be delivered to someone up to 30 years into the future. Bernard says, “TimeSpring was created so that parents and grandparents could send a picture or video, write a note today, and send it forward, providing the security of documenting that moment in time for them to experience when they are older.”

And that’s exactly how TimeSpring users are behaving; they are sending future messages to be unlocked not just five years from now, but ten and twenty years into the future. A reported 52 percent of TimeSpring users, send messages between 10-20 years into the future, while the average TimeSpring user creates 1.5 child accounts. It seems, given the opportunity, people want to communicate their stories in the future, especially for their children.

Now when and with whom you share with are no longer limited by time, age, or even death. TimeSpring’s technology also enables posthumous sharing and has been used specifically with people suffering from terminal illnesses such as ALS. Felice Bernard says, “As we know, life can be very unpredictable, but technology, on the other hand, is predictable, so, yes, a scheduled message stays a scheduled message whether you’re here or departed.”

But Bernard’s favorite aspect to TimeSpring is being able to write her kids a note on the app after a long, crazy day. She will attach a photo or video — “Sometimes, it’s not the big events or the parties, a lot of times it’s the everyday moments, the ones that I know I’m sorely going to miss” — and hits send. “I feel a relief that somehow I documented this, and it’s like I’m giving myself the freedom to forget,” she says. “I so desperately want to enjoy this time with them at this age, and in some way it makes me feel like I’m a step ahead of time for once.”

Since hitting app stores in November 2017, TimeSpring will be launching new features this year, and invite users to provide any feedback that can improve the app. Install TimeSpring for free in Google Play store and Apple store and follow TimeSpring’s activity on Facebook.

  • Life Coaching Masters Reveals How to Avoid a Valentine’s Day Meltdown and Take Effective Steps to Fix Your Love Life

Life Coaching Masters Reveals How to Avoid a Valentine’s Day Meltdown and Take Effective Steps to Fix Your Love Life

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 13, 2018

Valentine’s Day, like most other national days of giving, has become renowned for its spending, which is estimated at $13 billion annually. One billion cards are sent each year. On average, men spend $130 and, remarkably, 9 million people buy their pets Valentine’s Day gifts. What Lovers’ Day is less known for, is its disastrous effects.

According to a poll, one in ten young adults admitted to feeling lonely, insecure, depressed or unwanted on Valentine’s Day, and forty percent of people have negative feelings toward it. This is no surprise, considering research shows that 75 percent of suicide attempts are attributable to relationship problems.

Bestselling author and relationship expert Daphna Levy of Life Coaching Masters claims that things don’t have to be this way. Rather, relationships can last and families can stay together happily, providing they have tools to use to do so. “The problem is that there is no ‘Relationship Class’ to show us the way,” says Levy. “Many of our professors, parents and even counselors struggle with matters of the heart. Consequently, youth grow up without the guidance and knowledge required for lasting relationships. The disastrous results are all around us.”

This Valentine’s Day, Levy offers valuable tips to help make it a happier day, both for lonely singles and couples who yearn for the way they used to be.

For Singles: Five Steps to Beating Valentine’s Day Blues

    1.      Don’t let depression get the best of you this Valentine’s Day. Do something to lift your spirits. Hiking or long walks can cure the blues, and remember to take a good look at the scenery while you walk. No one to hike with? Search the Internet for local hiking groups.

    2.      Rather than dwell on your singleness, make plans to meet with a good friend – who will also be alone on Lovers’ Day – and go out for a meal, or to a movie; or invite friends and family over to your place and throw a Valentine’s Day potluck.

    3.      While a little social drinking may be fine, don’t “drown your sorrows” with alcohol.  All drugs do is mask the problem while fixing nothing. You numb yourself emotionally and spiritually, then wake up to the very misery you were trying to “forget” but now, with deeper depression and a hangover.

    4.      Follow the golden rule that giving is more rewarding than receiving.  Rather than feeling sorry for yourself, go and help others. It is the best therapy there is! You could spend part of your day helping at a homeless shelter or an animal shelter near you. Helping others could dispel your own sadness and give you a sense of pride and accomplishment.

    5.      Like many of us, you may have had bad relationships and perhaps realized that you had picked the wrong person. “Picking Wrong” occurs because we disregard red flags early in the relationship. Realize that this can happen to the best of us and, in the future, don’t let love blind you. These are lessons that are seldom taught anywhere, so pick up a copy of my book, “Picking Right: The Single’s Guide to Finding the Right Match“, and do some reading on Valentine’s Day to start getting smarter and make this a great year for relationships!

For Couples: Four Steps to Improving Your Love Life

    1.      Plan in advance and do something special with your partner on Valentine’s Day – something that both of you will enjoy. Perhaps a nice meal, or a drive and a movie. Focus on good communication about happy times and things you can laugh about. Focus on listening and try to be truly interested in what your partner has to say. You will be amazed how this action alone can lead to other, more romantic follow-up intimacies.

    2.      If this Valentine’s Day isn’t “special” with flowers, cards, chocolates or gifts, don’t get upset. Instead, work on making every day “Lovers’ Day”. How? Instead of focusing on your partner’s faults, errors or deficiencies, try to find what they do right, and everything you love and appreciate about them. Focus on it, mention it, praise it and tell others about it. Avoid the temptation to say anything negative! Try this for two weeks and let me know the result. You’ll be surprised!

    3.      Make an agreement between you not to get into discussions or arguments when either one of you is tired, hungry, ill, hormonal or under the influence. A good-night sleep, nutritious food and being well and sober make all the difference in the world and could turn a potential fight into a civilized and constructive dialogue.

    4.      Help each other. Not only should you help your partner (which you probably do), but let him or her to help you as well. Many people err in not permitting their partner to do things for them or by criticizing them when they do. This could be the death of a relationship! So, make your significant other feel valuable by (a) letting them help and then (b) letting them know how much you appreciate it.

Feb. 7 to 14 – a national campaign to reduce poverty, improve marriages. News: Recent bipartisan MN law encourages low-income couples to mar

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 7, 2018

National Marriage Week USA (www.nationalmarriageweekusa.org), a national campaign to increase marriage education and champion marital success, launches today and will conclude on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. National Marriage Week, which began as a grassroots campaign in 2010, seeks to espouse the many benefits of marriage, including better health, increased wealth, and greater happiness for married couples and their children.

“National Marriage Week USA (Feb. 7-14) is an opportune time to discuss the decline of marriage in America and its correlation to poverty,” said executive director Sheila Weber. “Marriage is the number one social justice imperative to reduce poverty, so it’s vital that Americans understand the significant benefits of marriage for their own lives as well as the lives of their children.”

Marriage is the number one social justice imperative to reduce poverty, so it’s vital that Americans understand the significant benefits of marriage for their own lives as well as the lives of their children.

Sheila Weber, Executive Director, National Marriage Week USA

The campaign has many compelling messages and projects, including:

    ·         Research proves that marriage heals the economic divide, lifting women and children out of poverty. According to the Brookings Institution, our economy would see a 25 percent reduction in poverty if today’s marriage rates were the same as those in 1970. To read additional articles and Op-Eds, visit www.NationalMarriageWeekUSA.org/news-coverage.

    ·         In a move to encourage marriage among single parents, a groundbreaking bipartisan Minnesota law increased the poverty threshold, allowing parents to continue receiving government benefits for 12 months after they marry.

    ·         Research highlighted this week shows the value of affordable weddings. National Marriage Week USA has videos and tips on creative ideas for low-cost weddings, now timely after holiday engagements and for upcoming June weddings.

    ·         National Marriage Week USA has the only online National Marriage Calendar, where all groups can list and locate for free any marriage class or event across the nation.

Cameron’s “Living Room Reset” is unlike any other event.

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 17, 2018

With nearly 30 years of marriage under his belt, Christian Hollywood Actor Kirk Cameron is hitting the road for a tour he’s calling “Living Room Reset” and a promise that it will be “unlike any event you’ve ever been to.” And for the first time, his wife Chelsea has created some amazing new content to join the tour via video.

On Jan. 26, Cameron will be packing the living room up in a trailer and will be stopping at The Church International in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to speak and provide resources to help strengthen marriages and child-parent relationships.

I’ve found that through the last 22 years of being a dad, 27 years of being a husband – that there’s nothing our family can’t get through, nothing we can’t figure out if we’ll just gather in the living room and take time to reset a few things, to refocus on the things that really matter.

    Kirk Cameron, Actor/Author/Producer/Speaker

“I’ve found that through the last 22 years of being a dad, 27 years of being a husband – that there’s nothing our family can’t get through, nothing we can’t figure out if we’ll just gather in the living room and take time to reset a few things, to refocus on the things that really matter,” explains Cameron in his YouTube trailer.

The Cameron’s have six children, ages 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21. They hope they can teach moms, dads and kids about growing together, learning together, struggling, falling, and recovering – all while learning to trust God more and serve one another better.

One thing this tour is doing that has never been done before is that Cameron is allowing the attendees in every city to custom tailor the discussions each night to what they want to hear. “When an attendee reserves their seat at KirkCameron.com, they will then be asked to select the content they want to hear. I figured, why waste time talking about topics that don’t need to be discussed,” Cameron commented.

“Whether you want to talk about cherishing your spouse for a lifetime, to the why and the how of forgiveness, to parenting skills,” Cameron explains. “This is going to make no two events the same.”

The tour will also feature special guests, well-known Christian music artists and throwback “Growing Pains” surprises.

The first three dates have been announced with the first one kicking off in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Jan. 26. You can find the complete tour schedule and reserve your seat on Cameron’s website.

Sequel Follows Popular Near-Death Experience (NDE) Book

    [ad_1]

Released Nov. 8: Hardcover edition “Proof of the Afterlife 2 – The Conversation Continues” by Bro. Gary Joseph

    Press Release

    updated: Nov 8, 2017

Books recounting near-death experiences (NDE) fascinate readers of all persuasions, and Brother Gary Joseph’s first title, Proof of the Afterlife (2010, 200 pages), is no exception.

Now his newly published sequel takes readers on a journey of hope and inspiration with 200 additional, never-before-seen journal entries chronicling God-encounters and chance meetings with angels along with visions, dreams and messages from the other side.

In Proof of the Afterlife 2, Bro. Joseph writes about his continuing almost weekly God-encounters and angel visitations filled with prophecies and important messages to share with a troubled world; all proceeds from his new book are used to serve the 80,000-plus homeless in Southern California and beyond …

Recounting his near-death experience in 2005 and the encounters that have continued weekly since then, Proof of the Afterlife 2: The Conversation Continues (2017, 400 pages) shares Brother Joseph’s message of hope and certainty that there is life after death and – drumroll, please – that this life should be filled with love, mercy and forgiveness.

The success of Brother Joseph’s first book allowed him to start an IRS 501 (c) nonprofit organization to serve the poorest of the poor, 80,000-plus living under bridges, in riverbed bottoms, on city streets, and in alleyways in southern California. Today, 200 volunteers with Servants of the Father of Mercy regularly deliver clean socks, sneakers, blankets, jackets, food, water, hygiene kits, rosaries, Bibles, love, hugs, and more to those in need.

Brother Joseph explains, “With all proceeds from Proof of the Afterlife 2 going to Servants of the Father of Mercy, this is the only NDE book in the publishing world that gives 100 percent of book revenues to the homeless.”

Filled with personal stories, anecdotes, and ruminations on spirituality and the importance of connections, Proof of the Afterlife 2 offers encouragement to anyone struggling with life challenges such as loss of a loved one, terminal illness, relationships, death and dying.

Brother Joseph explains, “Readers will discover in this new book the joy of knowing that God the Father is real, we are His children and loves each one of us very much.”

“For 30 minutes, Gary Joseph was dead. Proof of the Afterlife is a Christian and devotional tale as Brother Gary Joseph offers his own testimony to the existence of the afterlife…Of metaphysical and Christian interest, Proof of the Afterlife is very much worth considering for anyone looking for tales of real people’s brushes with the afterlife.” – The Midwest Book Review, 5 Stars
