Arlington teen killed in suspected drunken driving incident – WTOP News

Arlington County police have charged a Virginia teen with the death of another young passenger who was killed during a suspected drunken driving incident early Saturday morning.

Arlington County police have charged a Virginia teen with the death of another young passenger who was killed during a suspected drunken driving incident early Saturday morning.

Officials said five occupants, including Arlington residents Nicholas Rados, 19, and Brooks Bare, 18, were involved in a single-vehicle crash just before 2 a.m. in the 2200 block of North Harrison Street.

“Mr. Bare, who was the driver of the vehicle, was traveling northbound on N. Harrison Street when he struck several parked, unoccupied vehicles on the side of the roadway, resulting in his vehicle overturning,” the department said in a news release.

By the time first responders arrived, Rados was suffering life-threatening injuries. He died after being taken to a hospital for emergency care.

Three other unidentified passengers were evaluated or treated for injuries but are expected to survive the crash.

“As a result of the on-scene investigation, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash,” the department said.

Bare is currently being held without bond and charged for driving under the influence, refusing a Breathalyzer or blood test, and involuntary manslaughter.

Arlington County officials ask anyone with information to contact the investigators at dgilmore@arlingtonva.us or 703-228-4049. Tips can also be reported anonymously using 1-866-411-8477.

  • Michigan State Police troopers accused of racial profiling, mocking Black motorist in false DUI arrest

Michigan State Police troopers accused of racial profiling, mocking Black motorist in false DUI arrest

A motorist is suing Michigan State Police after troopers arrested him on false claims that he was intoxicated when they pulled him over in Benton Harbor shortly after 3 a.m. on April 10.

Dakarai Larriett, who is Black, claims he was racially profiled when troopers pulled over his Cadillac SUV, mocked his name, and suggested he smelled “fruity,” which he interpreted to be a homophobic remark.

At the time, Larriett was wearing pajamas and forced to undergo field sobriety tests in the cold. Trooper George Kanyuh, who Larriett says had a history of making sexist, racist, and homophobic statements on social media, was adamant that Larriett was under the influence.

“I don’t know what he’s on,” Kanyuh told his partner Matthew Okaiye, according to footage obtained from his body-worn camera. “I’m going to assume it’s weed and alcohol.”

Larriett says the camera footage proves that troopers were trying to plant drugs on him. At 3:25 a.m., Kanyuh can be seen rifling through the trunk of his squad car for two minutes, and the video goes dark. At one point, Okaiye appears to say, “Drugs?”

    Kanyuh responds, “I don’t think I have any … I had a stash in here somewhere. I don’t know where it’s at.”

Without any proof that Larriett was under the influence, the troopers handcuffed him and took him to a hospital to be tested for drugs and alcohol. He was then taken to jail, even though his alcohol test turned up negative.

Then an already humiliating encounter with police allegedly turned even more degrading.

While doing a scan of Larriett’s stomach, police claimed they had spotted an “anomaly” and accused him of “trying to smuggle drugs into the jail by way of ingestion of a bag of drugs,” Larriett tells Metro Times in an email.

“An extremely humiliating moment occurred where I was forced to defecate publicly while Trooper Kanyuh yelled at me not to flush,” Larriett recalls.

Kanyuh says he was charged with operating under the influence of a controlled substance, but prosecutors quickly dismissed the case “due to lack of evidence and the unlawful nature of the stop and arrest,” according to a federal complaint filed by Larriett’s attorney Shawndrica N. Simmons.

Five months later, the results of Larriett’s blood tests for drugs and alcohol arrived, and they were negative.

“The actions of the Michigan State Police officers were part of a pattern and practice of racially discriminatory policing,” Simmons wrote in the demand for a jury trial.

After his arrest, Larriett found an X account, @GKanyuh, that he says belonged to Kanyuh before it was recently deleted. The tweets contained racist, homophobic, and misogynistic language and imagery.

In one retweet, a photo of a Black woman is captioned, “Met the biggest beauty of a crackhead last night.”

Larriett tells Metro Times he’s still struggling to come to terms with the traffic stop and arrest.

“It’s horrible,” he says. “I’m still shaking when I see that video.”

State police did not immediately return a request for comment from Metro Times.

The police bodycam video can be viewed below or on YouTube.

A woman is facing charges such as driving under the influence after police say she caused a chain-reaction crash involving more than 20 vehicles on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in January.

On a foggy Saturday morning, a series of crashes on the westbound span of the bridge involving around 40 vehicles (when counting secondary crashes that followed the initial chain-reaction crash) led to a six-hour traffic jam Jan. 27.

After months of investigating, Maryland Transportation Authority officers took Gwendolyn Persina, 48, of Chester, Maryland, into custody Wednesday, according to a news release.

Police said Persina was speeding in her 2018 Honda Civic when she crashed into another vehicle just before 8 a.m., causing a chain-reaction crash that involved 23 vehicles.

Secondary crashes that followed involved another 20 vehicles, according to investigators.

One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another 11 people were also taken to the hospital, according to MDTA.

The westbound span was closed for around six hours while officials investigated the crashes; it reopened just before 2 p.m.

In addition to DUI, Persina is being charged with driving on a suspended license and causing life-threatening injuries by driving a vehicle.

In a separate case from the crash in January, Maryland court records show Persina pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of driving while impaired by alcohol in 2022. At the time, she was sentenced to 18 months probation.

More Details On The Florida Mom’s Charges

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lopez was arrested and booked into custody on Thursday, July 25. Since then, she has been charged with “DUI WITH DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OR PERSON,” which is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Additionally, Lopez has been charged with “ABUSE, AGGRAVATED ABUSE, AND NEGLECT OF CHILD.” Furthermore, the sheriff’s office notes that the subsequent charge is a third-degree felony.

The DUI charge reportedly carries a bond amount of $2,000, while the abuse charge carries a bond amount of $5,000. At this time, Lopez reportedly remains behind bars and has an arraignment date scheduled for August 19.

Here’s What Josefina Lopez Allegedly Did & How Her Child Is Doing

According to Fox 35 Orlando, a police affidavit alleges Lopez crashed her Jeep vehicle Thursday morning “at the intersection of Johns Lake and Hancock Roads.”

Witnesses reportedly called the police. Then, when officers arrived, they reportedly found her car “flipped on its passenger side in a ditch.” Furthermore, they noted that the mother was standing on the sidewalk while her child was allegedly still in the backseat of her car.

“You may not have a problem with alcohol out there — but if you are drinking and driving, you definitely have a problem with your decision-making,” Lui Delgado, a Certified addiction specialist, told the outlet.

According to Fox 35 Orlando, Lopez’s child was taken to a hospital and cleared from having experienced any injuries. The child has since been “placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.”

A Father Was Recently Arrested In Florida On Child Abuse Charges

The 21-year-old isn’t the only parent to find themselves facing child abuse charges. Earlier this month, authorities arrived at the home of Joseph Gregory Antonsen and found the body of his 9-year-old son decomposing on a couch.

Additionally, authorities also found trash, diapers, beer cans, and rotten food in his residence. Police ultimately reported that the home had no running water and the corpse of Antonsen’s son had been left at the residence for multiple days.

  • DUI checkpoint in Lodi coming soon

DUI checkpoint in Lodi coming soon

(FOX40.COM) — Law enforcement officials in Lodi will soon be in search of drivers who choose to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

On May 24, the Lodi Police Department said it will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sergeant Dan Bristow. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The location of the checkpoint is undisclosed but LPD said the DUI checkpoint is determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

“Impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving,” LPD said. “While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.”

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, and a suspended license.

  • Colorado lawmakers’ latest police oversight bill would protect whistleblowers from retaliation

Colorado lawmakers’ latest police oversight bill would protect whistleblowers from retaliation

Former Edgewater police officer McKinzie Rees hopes to serve and protect again, but first she must get her name removed from a so-called “bad cops list” maintained by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. It landed there, she said, as retaliation after she reported sexual assaults by a supervising sergeant.

That sergeant went on to work for another police department until this year, when he pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact and misconduct and was sentenced, more than four years after the assaults and retaliation against Rees.

She testified to the state’s House Judiciary Committee this week that, even after her attacker was exposed, her complaint about still being listed as a problem police officer “is falling on deaf ears every time.”

Rees’ testimony, echoed by other frontline police officers from Colorado Springs and Denver about retaliation they faced after reporting misconduct, is driving state lawmakers’ latest effort at police oversight. Fresh legislation would require investigations of all alleged misconduct and increase protection for whistleblowers.

But the bill, titled “Law Enforcement Misconduct,” faces resistance from police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys and the Fraternal Order of Police who contend it would complicate police work and lead to unnecessary prosecutions.

While state leaders “are committed to addressing police misconduct,” the requirement that all allegations must be investigated could create “a caustic culture” within police agencies, said Colorado Department of Public Safety executive director Stan Hilkey in testimony to lawmakers during a hearing Tuesday.

“This bill is harmful to the mission of public safety,” Hilkey said, raising concerns it would lead to police “watching each other … instead of going out and responding to and preventing crime.”

The legislation, House Bill 1460, won approval on a 6-5 vote in the House Judiciary Committee. It would require investigations of all alleged misconduct by police, correctional officers and others who enforce the law in Colorado. Officers who report misconduct would gain the ability to file lawsuits if complaints aren’t investigated or they face retaliation.

Key elements under discussion include a provision bolstering the attorney general’s power to add and remove names from the Police Officer Standards and Training database, which bars future employment, and to compel police agencies to provide information for managing that list.

Other provisions would require longer retention of police records and prohibit government agencies from charging fees for making unedited police body-worn camera videos available for public scrutiny.

Investigating all alleged misconduct is projected to cost millions of dollars as state agencies face increased workloads, requiring more employees in some agencies, and increased litigation and liability expenses.

Lawmakers sponsoring the bill have agreed to remove a provision that would have established a new misdemeanor crime for officers who fail to report misconduct by their peers.

But the increased protection for whistleblowers is essential, said Rep. Leslie Herod, a Denver Democrat, in an interview.

“People need those protections now. This would ensure good officers can be good officers and bad officers who cover up for bad officers no longer can be on the force,” said Herod, who introduced the legislation on April 17.

Most police officers “do great work,” sponsor says

The bill would build on police accountability laws passed following the 2020 Minneapolis police murder of George Floyd, which sparked street protests, Herod said.

“We still have more work to do. There’s no one-shot bill that will fix police accountability in the state,” she said.

“The majority of police officers in Colorado do great work. We need to make sure we have protections in place when that doesn’t happen. This is just as important as any other issue we are debating in Colorado.”

The late-in-the-session legislation would affect the 246 police agencies and 12,000 sworn officers around Colorado. It began when Rees and other police whistleblowers who had faced retaliation approached lawmakers.

For Rees, 30, who now supports herself by pet-sitting, the feeling of still being punished — and prevented from continuing a career she worked toward since childhood — “is horrible,” said in an interview.

“There should always be checks and balances,” she said. “It is exhausting trying to figure this out. You just get this runaround. There’s no way out.”

Rees told lawmakers that she reported two sexual assaults in 2019 by the sergeant to colleagues, seeking protection under internal agency protocols and as a whistleblower under existing state laws.

“Instead, I got served the ultimate sentence of no protection,” she said.

This year, after his dismissal from the Black Hawk Police Department, former Edgewater police Sgt. Nathan Geerdes, who was indicted by a grand jury in 2022 on four counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of witness retaliation, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact, first-degree official misconduct and forgery as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced in Jefferson County District Court to four years of probation.

Edgewater police officer Ed McCallin also testified, describing the retaliation he faced after he became aware “that a senior officer had sexually assaulted a junior officer” — referring to Rees — and then “weaponized” the state’s database against her.

“I was asked to cover that up by my police chief,” he said. “I was threatened with internal investigations twice” and “had to meet with a city council member to save my job for doing the right thing.”

When he went to the Fraternal Order of Police for guidance in the case, McCallin said, a contract attorney advised him “to look the other way.”

“We just need more time,” sheriff says

Colorado law enforcement group leaders and police advocates said their main concern was that they weren’t consulted by sponsors of this legislation.

“We just need more time to dive into this,” Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown, representing the County Sheriffs of Colorado, told lawmakers.

Herod acknowledged “miscalculation” in not consulting with law enforcement brass in advance.

She and co-sponsor Rep. Jennifer Bacon, a Denver Democrat serving as vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee, said they lined up meetings this week to hash out language and amendments before the bill advances.

Rep. Mike Weissman, who chairs the committee, agreed that support from law enforcement leaders would be crucial but added that he understood the “guardedness” of the bill sponsors, “given how these issues can go in this building.”

District attorneys from Jefferson and El Paso counties objected to the proposed requirement that every misconduct claim must be investigated, saying it would create conflicts in carrying out their professional duties.

Several lawmakers raised concerns about language in the bill, such as “unlawful behavior.” Rep. Matt Soper, a Delta Republican, said a police officer who was sexually assaulted and chose not to report the crime “could become caught up in the system” for failing to report misconduct. Or police who might have to make an illegal U-turn while chasing a suspect, hypothetically, would have to be investigated, he said.

But the lawmakers broadly supported the efforts aimed at making sure the Attorney General’s Office manages the database of police transgressors properly.

The committee’s bill supporters said the compelling testimony from the Edgewater officers and other whistleblowers persuaded them that there’s an undeniable problem to address.

    Andres Asion via Facebook

A man drove onto a Miami Beach boardwalk Sunday morning before veering off and plunging into the water.

At around 7 a.m., several people gathered at the South Pointe Park marina boardwalk and stared at the Atlantic Ocean, where a dark-colored car was submerged with its trunk open, according to a video of posted on Facebook by Andres Saion.

The Miami Herald has reached out to Miami Beach police for more information but hasn’t heard back as of Sunday afternoon. It’s unclear whether anyone was injured.

In the post, Asion said he was in his apartment when he heard a loud crash. He rushed to his balcony but didn’t spot the car until glancing at the water. When he saw it floating, he called 911.

“I don’t see anybody, but I don’t know if there’s somebody else in the water,” Asion told police in the video.

Fire rescue personnel, the video shows, swam around the car to check if someone else was inside. A woman and her daughter also told police that they were sitting nearby when they witnessed the car zooming down the boardwalk.

According to Asion, the driver was intoxicated and mistook the boardwalk for a road before he drove over the barrier. The video captured a man drenched in water while sitting on a sidewalk.

After a few minutes, police conducted a field sobriety test, during which the man stumbles when lifting one of his legs in the air, the video shows. Police then cuff the man as he appears to shed tears.

It’s not yet known if the man will face charges.

Granville woman hit by alleged drunk driver recovering from coma

GRANVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Helen Crawford was biking home from her job at Amazon when she was hit by a truck driven by Brian Hyatt of Vermont. The accident put Crawford in a coma and Granville Police charged Hyatt with a DWI.

It was around 8 at night back on December 16, 2023. Helen Crawford’s family was waiting for her to get home from work when her mom received a message that she didn’t want to believe.

“I was sitting here on the couch and somebody messaged me, “Your daughter was just hit by a drunk driver. You need to answer your door.” I’m like, no, not even funny,” described Joann Hackett.

Helen was rushed to the hospital and her family says doctors were not sure if Helen would make it. The surgery she needed had a 1 in 100 chance of survival. But Helen overcame the odds and worked her way out of a coma. She is now beginning to write and talk again.

“She was still up in Burlington and Harper was sitting next to her coloring. We look over and Helen picks up the colored pencil and just starts coloring. She wrote all of our names. She wrote his name, my name…,” said Joann.

“One of the things she wrote was save me,” added Helen’s fiancee, Craig House.

While Crawford goes through therapy, her family is looking to hold the driver who caused this accountable. They told NEWS10’s Anthony Krolikowski that Hyatt was supposed to appear in Granville Village Court.

“To our knowledge, it’s been postponed twice. He did get charged with a felony DUI and I think there’s a couple of other charges. More charges are to be determined based on the outcome of Helen,” stated Helen’s stepfather, Fred Hackett.

Helen’s parents and fiance are eager for her to return home one day. They pray for her recovery and that this does not happen to someone else.

“Please don’t do it. Please. Think twice. Call somebody. Getting behind the wheel after you’ve had some drinks will be the worst decision of your life,” said Joann.

Man accused of DUI hits crossing guards, knocks 82-year-old onto hood, Florida cops say

A Florida driver is accused of being under the influence and hitting two school crossing guards before driving away, troopers said.

A Florida driver is accused of being under the influence and hitting two school crossing guards before driving away, troopers said.

    Florida Highway Patrol

A man in Florida is accused of being under the influence when he drove into two school crossing guards standing in a median, injuring both, deputies and state troopers said.

Robert Noack, 54, borrowed a tan Ford Focus from another person Feb. 14 to go visit a friend in Spring Hill when he was hit by another vehicle in an intersection, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Noack was “T-boned,” which caused the Focus to face the wrong direction on the road, troopers said. Rather than getting out of the car to speak with the other driver, Noack continued to drive down the wrong side of the road, according to the report.

He approached two school crossing guards standing in the median wearing orange protective hats and vests, troopers said.

Noack drove into the guards, identified as 82-year-old Don Jenkins and 52-year-old Nicholas Gallicchio, according to state troopers.

Jenkins rolled up onto the hood and windshield and onto the ground, hitting his head on the concrete, troopers said. He was knocked unconscious.

Gallicchio was hit with the side of Noack’s car and rolled down the side of the vehicle before he was knocked to the ground, according to the report.

Gallicchio, from Spring Hill, sustained minor injuries, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said in a Feb. 15 release, but Jenkins, from Weeki Wachee, was taken to a trauma center with serious injuries.

Noack again did not stop after the crash, according to the arrest report. He sped down the road before making a sharp turn, troopers said.

As he was driving away, Noack’s car hit a drainage cover, damaging the bottom of the vehicle, troopers said.

“As a result of striking the drainage cover, the sedan became inoperable a few blocks south of the crash site,” deputies said. “The driver … then fled on foot.”

The driver hit a drainage cover, rendering the vehicle inoperable before he fled on foot, state troopers said.

The vehicle was found 8 miles from the crash sites, troopers said, and Noack was found walking on a nearby road.

He told troopers he had been a passenger in the car but was not driving, according to arrest documents.

He said his friend, whom he only identified as “Chris,” was driving, according to the report. He told officials he was in a seat lowered all the way down, which was why no one had seen him in the vehicle.

This contradicted what witnesses saw, and the seats in the Focus were all raised, troopers said. Noack was searched and taken into custody.

A trooper found an Oxycodone pill in his pocket, and he was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and sobriety testing, according to the report.

Noack was charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run connected to the vehicle crash, felony hit-and-run connected to the crossing guard crash and driving under the influence.

Spring Hill is about 50 miles north of Tampa.

WWE Legend Sentenced After Killing Man In DUI – Her SEVENTH Drunk Driving Arrest! – Perez Hilton

Things aren’t looking so Sunny for Tammy Sytch. Nearly two years after the former WWE superstar was arrested and charged with DUI causing death, she’s finally got her sentence.

Back in April 2022, the 50-year-old was accused of killing 75-year-old Julian Lafrancis Lasseter. While driving drunk, she slammed her Mercedes into the rear of his Kia Sorento that was stopped at a stoplight in Florida. The force pushed the car forward, causing it to slam into the back of the car ahead of it — and the sever collision from both ends caused fatal injuries to the elderly man. So, so sad.

Tammy and the passengers in the other car weren’t seriously injured, but she was found to be over the legal limit when she slammed into the Kia at a “high rate speed” as reported by police at the time. Because of her intoxication, she’s now facing almost two decades behind bars.

On Monday, the former WWE Diva addressed the courtroom in an emotional testimony. She wore an orange jumpsuit and her hands were in cuffs as she tearfully addressed Julian’s family, saying:

“I know my words are not enough. But please know I think about you every day. Every second of every day, and I will do whatever I can to make the changes I need to make sure this never happens again. No one should have to go through this and please know that every single second of every day since the crash, I wish I could change places with him.”

After hours of argument back in forth in court, though, the judge ultimately decided on a sentence: 17 years in prison!

That’s a long time, but it’s much lighter than the 26-year sentence prosecutors were pushing for. They argued she was still a “danger to society”. This was someone who had previously been arrested for making terroristic threats after all. But the judge didn’t throw the entire book at her, opting for about two thirds of what they asked. However, she’ll have to serve an additional 8 years probation after.

Tammy didn’t show much of a reaction when she received her sentencing, leaving everyone to wonder what she was really thinking. You can see the video of her entire sentencing (below):

This wasn’t the first time the former wrestler — who went by the name Sunny in the ring — got caught up with some drunk driving charges, either. According to her criminal record, she’s been arrested at least six other times due to her impairment behind the wheel. So, a danger to society might not be that far off. It’s a stroke of pure luck no one else was seriously injured or killed during all her drunk driving before this one!

What do U think of Tammy’s sentencing, Perezcious readers? Did she get let off too easy — or was this a sufficient sentencing? Sound OFF (below).

Hulk Hogan’s Son Nick Arrested For DUI In Florida After REFUSING To Take A Sobriety Test! – Perez Hilton

Nick Hogan is in the big house.

On Saturday, TMZ reported that earlier that same morning, at around 4:00 a.m. to be specific, the 33-year-old son of Hulk Hogan was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence in Clearwater, Florida. According to the outlet, he refused to agree to a field sobriety test, so cops booked him on a misdemeanor. See his mugshot (below):

Beyond the criminal offense of potentially driving while under the influence, the news draws parallels to a scary incident that happened nearly two decades ago. Back in 2007 when Nick was just 17 years old, he and his friend John Graziano were driving around the same city when the reality star crashed, leaving John with a serious brain injury. At the time, cops said alcohol was a factor. Nick went on to serve an eight-month prison sentence.

As for this time around, TMZ reported that Nick was at a bikini contest at his dad’s restaurant in the Clearwater area prior to getting pulled over.

Shannon Beador Says She ‘Took Inventory’ Of Her Life After DUI Arrest: ‘I Made A Terrible Mistake’ – Perez Hilton

Shannon Beador recognizes she made a huge “mistake.”

Perezcious readers will recall that the 59-year-old reality star was arrested in September after she crashed her vehicle into a home in Newport Beach – reportedly while driving under the influence. She was charged with two misdemeanors, one count of DUI and one count of hit and run. But on Thursday, Shannon received nothing more than a slap on the wrist from the judge for her actions as the judge dismissed the charge of hit-and-run with property damage.

She then was sentenced to three years of probation and 40 hours of community service. Shannon also was required to complete a nine-month alcohol program. One day after her sentencing, the Bravolebrity made an appearance at BravoCon for the Real Housewives of Orange County panel – where she opened up about the incident. And Shannon seemed to be very remorseful! She told the audience on Friday:

“It’s been a tough six weeks but I will tell you that I made a terrible mistake and — I don’t want to cry. I’m incredibly grateful that I didn’t hurt anyone. I, on my own, just completed a 28-day behavioral wellness program with an alcohol component and I have been able to focus on elements of my life that were unhealthy and toxic and I believe that today, I’m going in a good and positive direction.”

Shannon then went on to say she took “inventory of my life” following the arrest. In fact, it sounds like she now agrees with her castmates about having a drinking problem. The television personality said she realized she was “absolutely” drinking way too much lately.

Hopefully, Shannon truly learned her lesson from this incident. Thoughts on what she had to say, Perezcious readers? Let us know.

  • Kristin Cavallari Tells Dating HORROR STORY Of An Ex Getting Arrested During Their Date – And You Know Him!!! – Perez Hilton

Kristin Cavallari Tells Dating HORROR STORY Of An Ex Getting Arrested During Their Date – And You Know Him!!! – Perez Hilton

What’s your biggest dating horror story? Kristin Cavallari might have you beat!

On Tuesday’s all new episode of her Let’s Be Honest podcast, she recounts the tale of a truly terrible coffee date — in which the guy full-on got arrested! Right in the middle of the date! Innerestingly this was only a few days ago — but we’ll get back to that in a moment.

The date didn’t begin especially auspiciously, as she recalls this guy, someone she used to date, setting up the meeting with her and then NOT SHOWING UP:

“Sunday, I had agreed to go meet someone that I dated for coffee. And I’m like, ‘Hey, I’m two minutes away.’ No response. I get to the coffee shop. I call him. 9 a.m. I’m all, ‘Hey, I’m here.’ He answers all disheveled, like, ‘Oh my God. My alarm didn’t go off.’ I’m like, ‘F**k you. I hate you.’”

Yeah, not a good start at all! LOLz! She continued:

“But I waited like a f**king idiot. Twenty minutes [go] by, and he walks in. And he’s like, ‘Oh my God, sorry. I was up until 5:30, had friends over. We were drinking all night.’”

That would already be a red flag for us, him being so inconsiderate staying up all night drinking when they already had a date planned. We mean, if he wants to hang with friends, fine, but call a girl to cancel if you obviously aren’t going to make it! But she was a trooper and stayed, and they ordered coffee.

But then something scary happened. A cop came up and started questioning them! He asked if they’d arrived to the coffee shop together:

“By the way, [UNNAMED DATE] is not saying anything. So, I’m standing there, like, ‘No, we didn’t drive together.’”

The cop pulled her ex out of the cafe and started “patting” him down! She couldn’t believe it:

“Next thing you know, the handcuffs go on. I’m like, ‘What the f**k is going on?’”

Then three more cops showed up and put the ex — whom she does NOT name, btw — into the squad car. She finally asked what the heck was going on, why he was being arrested, and a cop told her:

“There was a report of a hit-and-run down the street, and he matches the description of the guy.”

Whoa! Did her date really drive hungover to see her and hit someone — then leave the scene to get coffee?! She had no idea if she’d ever find out! She remembers thinking:

“Damn, I’m not going to know the full story for a long time. Great, that’s my Sunday morning.”

But the next morning, she says, she woke up to a voicemail from the guy saying, “Just got out of jail. That was crazy. Wow.” Like it was “just another day” for him! And he told her he would still like to get coffee with her!

“He was totally downplaying this like it’s nothing. I wake up, send him a voice note, like, ‘What happened? Did you get a DUI? Did you lose your license? What happened?’”

The guy explained he had hit a pole. He was still drunk from the night before and blew “over the limit” on a Breathalyzer. She got even more info when the story came out online! See, it turns out her ex is a bit of a celebrity himself! It was comedian Jeff Dye! That’s right, if you already read THAT story, you probably had no idea he was on his way to meet Kristin! Cray!

Anyway, the police report of his DUI hit the internet, so she did get the full story! And she couldn’t believe how flippantly he was treating it:

“The disconnect is so unbelievable. Also, came out in the police report he didn’t hit a pole, he hit a f**king tree. The whole thing is like, oh my God.”

Oh no! Suffice to say, she did not go for another coffee date with him! See the full story — PLUS another wild one about having a one-night stand with an Australian rugby player the night before (below)!

What would YOU do if your date got arrested in front of you, Perezcious readers? Would it depend on the crime? Or is that an instant dealbreaker??

  • Drunk driver indicted for golf cart crash that killed South Carolina bride on her wedding day

Drunk driver indicted for golf cart crash that killed South Carolina bride on her wedding day

The woman accused of drunkenly plowing her vehicle into a golf cart, killing a newly-wed bride and injuring the man she’d married just hours earlier, has been indicted by a grand jury in South Carolina.

Jamie Komoroski was charged in Charleston County with reckless homicide, felony DUI resulting in death and two counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, according to court documents obtained by WSCS. Police said her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit the night of the deadly crash, which unfolded on April 28 on Folly Beach, near Charleston.

Just hours earlier, Samantha and Aric had exchanged vows by the water during a romantic wedding ceremony. They were in a golf cart carrying them away from their wedding reception when they were hit by Komoroski, who was traveling 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The 34-year-old bride was pronounced dead on the scene. Her husband sustained a brain injury and broken bones, according to a statement his family posted to a GoFundMe page. He has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski as well as the bars that served her in the hours leading up to the deadly collision: Snapper Jacks, The Drop-In Bar and Deli, The Crab Shack, Taco Boy, El Gallo Bar and Grill, and Bottle Cap Holdings, LLC.

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, Komoroski told investigators she’d only had a beer and a tequila drink before the crash, but Hutchinson’s lawsuit alleges she enjoyed a “booze-filled” bar-hop across Folly Beach.

Last month, Komorski’s request for bond was denied by Judge Michael Nettles who set the condition that the case be tried by March 2024.

Bride killed, groom injured when alleged drunk driver slams into golf cart:

A bride leaving her wedding reception was killed when a woman driving under the influence and well over twice the speed limit slammed into the back of a golf cart on a South Carolina beach road, authorities said.

Data retrieved from Jamie Lee Komoroski’s rental car indicated she was driving 65 mph and only briefly hit the brakes before she hit the golf cart around 10 p.m. Friday on Folly Beach, investigators said.

The speed limit on the island near Charleston is 25 mph.

Samantha Miller, 34, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died in the wreck, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Miller had just got married hours earlier, Folly Beach Public Safety Department Director Andrew Gilreath said.

Three others in the golf cart including the groom were injured. Gilreath said the golf cart had lights and was legal to drive at night.

The groom’s mother created a GoFundMe Page to pay for her daughter-in-law’s funeral and her son’s medical bills. It included a photo of the newlyweds running under sparklers just before the crash.

It also had a photo of groom Aric Hutchinson in the hospital, where he was recovering from a brain injury and numerous broken bones after the golf cart rolled over several times and was thrown 100 yards. The GoFundMe page says he has many broken bones, a brain injury and faces a long recovery.

“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” the groom’s mother wrote. “Aric has lost the love of his life.”

The GoFundMe page had raised over $247,000 by Tuesday morning.

Komoroski, 25, is charged with reckless vehicular homicide and three counts of driving under the influence causing death. She faces one to 25 years in prison on each DUI count.

Komoroski remained in the Charleston County jail Monday afternoon and records did not indicate if she had a lawyer.

Miller was from North Carolina and Hutchinson grew up in Utah where he played college football, the groom’s mother said.
