This Is the Winter Trend Practically Every Celebrity Is Obsessed With

    [ad_1]

This is going to be difficult, but I will refrain from making any Matrix comparisons in this story (oops, does that count?). Celebrities are fully embracing a dramatic, kind of uncomfortable trend this winter, and what it lacks in comfort it makes up for in coolness. Leather clothing—real or faux—has become a favorite trend this season of everyone from Rihanna to Taylor Swift to Kylie Jenner. And I’m not talking about just a basic leather jacket—I’m talking about significant pieces of clothing such as a trench coat or a dress.

A few things that I’ve noticed about the dressed-up trend is that black is the leather color of choice, and it’s usually worn after dark. If you, too, want to make leather clothing part of your wardrobe this winter, scroll on to see how stylish celebrities are styling the trend, and shop leather pieces both genuine and faux.

  • How to Layer Your Favorite Candles Like Perfume for a Signature Home Scent

How to Layer Your Favorite Candles Like Perfume for a Signature Home Scent

    [ad_1]

I can’t say exactly when it happened, but I have officially become a fragrance girlie. That said, because I spend most of my days working from home, I only sometimes use the favorites in my growing perfume wardrobe. However, the fragrance assortment I am constantly refilling is my candle collection. My morning ritual includes brewing a homemade Americano in my Nespresso machine, lighting a candle, turning on a Spotify playlist, and sitting at my computer to take on the day.

As I got the idea to light more than one candle at a time, I thought to myself, “Am I doing this right?” What I’ve realized as I’ve tested candle scents in my day-to-day life—and for this story—is that, unlike layering the wrong perfume on the skin, candle scents are much more forgiving, and it can be really fun to play alchemist by mixing, matching, and layering my favorite wicks for a unique and signature home scent.

People in Paris Look Wealthier Even If They're Not—Here's Why

    [ad_1]

As an avid Real Housewives fan, I’ve gotten used to seeing women in splashy outfits. Logo mania looms large in the Bravo universe, which makes it the perfect form of escapism. My own sartorial tastes are decidedly more sedate. While I’ve never shied away from color or texture, I grew up in a household where the saying “take one accessory off before leaving” is gospel, and while I believe rules were made to broken, you have to admit that restrained dressing is becoming more and more of an art form.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock this year, the terms “quiet luxury” and “rich mom” dressing aren’t novel to you. But the French have been doing it for ages and doing it well. They know that dressing expensively doesn’t require draining your bank account, just discerning taste, smart investing, and pairing pieces well.

Read ahead to see how French women fake it (and by “it,” I mean money in their bank accounts).

  • I'm on the Hunt for the Ultimate Revenge Dress—These 29 Have Me in a Choke Hold

I'm on the Hunt for the Ultimate Revenge Dress—These 29 Have Me in a Choke Hold

    [ad_1]

I’m a firm believer that looking your best is the best revenge, and that’s where the concept of a “revenge dress” comes from. I’d like to think the revenge dress has been around as long as dresses have existed, but most of us think of that infamous black dress Princess Diana wore in the ’90s to a Vanity Fair party. The timing coincided with her estranged husband confessing his infidelity during their marriage. Princess Diana looked so good that just her showing up in it was deemed an act of revenge.

Ever since, women everywhere have been secretly shopping for that one dress that you keep in your closet as backup and only bring out when you really need it. A revenge dress needs to make you feel confident and tends to have a touch of sexiness. I don’t know when I’m going to need a dress that doubles as an act of revenge, but I do know that I don’t want to be empty-handed when the time comes.

I rolled up my sleeves and got to looking for the best revenge dresses on the market and found 30 that have some serious wow factor. Keep scrolling to see the 29 I’m loving right now.

I'm Obsessing Over These 30 Sale Finds From J.Crew, Banana Republic, & Nordstrom

    [ad_1]

There’s no denying that I love a good sale. Since I was out of town and missed out on some major deals during Black Friday, I’m feeling a strong urge to get my fill of deeply discounted deals! While there are a number of sales going on right now, none have impressed me quite like Nordstrom’sJ.Crew’s and Banana Republic’s offerings. They’re filled with chic, easy, and elevated basics that will serve me this season and beyond. Moreover, the discounts are really good. After scouring each site, I wanted to share the specific pieces that I think are really worth buying right now. From sumptuous sweaters to versatile jeans, these pieces feel fresh, fashion-forward yet exude a timelessness to them. In short, I’m obsessed with them, and maybe you will be too.

  • 25 Pretty Shoes That Will Look Perfect With Every Pair of Jeans You Own

25 Pretty Shoes That Will Look Perfect With Every Pair of Jeans You Own

    [ad_1]

Listen. I take no pleasure in twirling out a clichéd phrase like “shoes make the man.” But tired, gendered connotations aside, the saying holds a kernel of truth: My shoe choice helps me tap into different sides of my style and personality. As an actress, I know that slipping on a specific pair of shoes can inform my choices. I’ve thrown on shockingly high heels (even if they stay out of frame) to help me lock into a character. What I put on my feet quite literally affects the pep in my step that day.

But anything that has the power to giveth can also taketh away. If you’ve ever stepped out of the house feeling invincible in a new pair of jeans, only to be brought down a peg when you catch a glimpse of your feet in a passing mirror, you know that the wrong footwear can undo an otherwise flawless ’fit. Volume, shape, and length come into play when toeing that delicate shoe-pant line.

I’m in a particularly giving mood this holiday season, so let my errors be your education. I’ve broken down five pairings so you’re never caught with your metaphorical pants around your ankles (unless they’re ankle cropped, which would look great with a pair of flats). Keep reading!

My Perfectly Curated List of Trendy Finds at Nordstrom, H&M, and J.Crew

    [ad_1]

I love the holidays. Even in Los Angeles, where we’re currently oscillating between moody gray days and blistering heat, I’m feeling festive! Maybe I’ve been bolstered by a relatively drama-free Thanksgiving, or perhaps it’s the siren song of holiday parties yet to come. Whatever it is, I’m feeling the cheer.

This holiday season, I’m trying to toe the line between treating myself to some frivolity while getting ahead of my style resolutions. For an impulse shopper and self-proclaimed procrastinator (yes, I have been driving around with donation-bound bags of clothes in my trunk since, uh, let me get back to you on that), this is a big deal. It’s a delicate balance to strike, but years of e–window shopping (aka filling up and abandoning carts) have paid off. I’ve scoured three tried-and-true online shopping meccas for the finds that will have you looking fabulous at all your holiday soirées and beyond.

    It's Already 2024 at Zara—7 Next-Year Trends I'm Buying Way Early

    [ad_1]

I knew Zara moved fast when it came to trends, but I never knew it moved this fast. After scrolling through the Spanish fashion brand’s latest arrivals, opening what could possibly have amounted to 100 tabs in my browser, I noticed something. The selection wasn’t touching on trends from this year, but rather, the retailer’s virtual shelves were already fully stocked with all of the trends we’ve been predicting to make it big next year. Apparently, the next 10 days don’t matter. At Zara, it’s already 2024.

In the same manner that we do, clearly Zara’s design team has been busy studying the chicest moments from the runways and scouring the social feeds of fashion’s best trend predictors to get ahead on the trends that are to come post–New Year’s Eve. And while I’m all for living in the moment, in this case, I’m not mad about the head start I can now get on my 2024 wardrobe at a price that’s hard to beat. • We Take Lip Balm Seriously—Out of Hundreds of Formulas, These 10 Came Out on Top

We Take Lip Balm Seriously—Out of Hundreds of Formulas, These 10 Came Out on Top

    [ad_1]

This installment of Deep Reviews, like all others, took weeks to complete. Not only do we take our time to research the best products on the market, but we put our top contenders through rigorous testing, which is conducted by our very own editors.

Here’s the 411. We started by looking at other publications—AllureByrdieGlamour, and many others. We created a master list of all the lip balms that were recommended. From there, we compared and color-coordinated the lists, looking at how often each lip balm was mentioned as well as its overall ratings and reviews on major beauty retailer sites.

After all of this, we had our list narrowed down to a mere 10 lip balms. All that was left was to do our own testing, and we did. Each editor received the lip balms and was asked to test, rate, and review them. Once we had everyone’s responses, we assembled them into a document and ranked each lip balm according to the feedback. By the end, we had crowned the best one.

When a Fashion Person Says Chic, They're Referring to Nordstrom Items Like These

    [ad_1]

I’m a fashion girl through and through, and while I love higher-ticket items like designer bags and shoes, the chicest items in my closet are actually all items I consider to be affordable. Basics don’t always have to be basic, and trendy pieces don’t necessarily stay in my closet for just one season. In fact, there are some chic Nordstrom items I love at comparatively reasonable prices. Whether you’re going for something a bit avant-garde like a uniquely shaped bag or a piece to transition you from season to season such as a button-up shirt or Mary Janes, Nordstrom has tons of chic options I just know you’re going to love.

I’ve been writing about fashion for years, and the one piece of advice I have for people trying to find their own personal style is to not follow the trends. Of course, it’s fun at times (who doesn’t love a rosette?), but the best outfits are the ones you’ll be able to look back on in a few years and still love. If this logic resonates with you in any way, you’re going to want to stick around.

I’ve curated a list specifically for you, dear reader, and after scouring for chic Nordstrom items for hours and hours, I’ve come up with my top 32 picks below. Psst—almost everything is under $300.

I'll Be Your Personal Shopping Connoisseur: 39 Nordstrom Items You Need to See

    [ad_1]

Ready for some fresh Nordstrom buys? The new year is almost here, and we’re already off to a strong start at the retailer, and the new arrivals section is popping off right now. How do I know this? Over the past few weeks, I’ve done a ton of trend research for the year ahead, poring over the winter collections and scanning my social media feeds to find out what people are talking about. I usually peruse Nordstrom’s site when I need to update my basics, but the buys I found on my recent search are the more special and elevated picks that I was happily surprised to see. • I Have $200 and a Goal of Looking Rich—34 Nordstrom Finds That Fit All My Needs

I Have $200 and a Goal of Looking Rich—34 Nordstrom Finds That Fit All My Needs

    [ad_1]

I know I can’t be the only person here who wants, when they get dressed, to look expensive. We’ve been taught it basically all our lives, but instead of that word, people said “nice” or “sophisticated.” To me, all of the above mean the same thing, except mine implies an extra oomph—or, perhaps, an extra dollar sign. Of course, the trick is to reach this ultimate goal without having to actually spend a lot of money. A $2000 bag will make you look rich; that’s a given. But if you can find a $50 one that gives the same impression, that’s when you’ve really won.

After 28 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about gaming the system to get the vibe I want for a price I can afford, which is what brought me to spend the last, I don’t know, four hours scrolling through Nordstrom’s latest arrivals in search of pieces that would appear to set me back thousands but all cost under $200. Scroll down to shop the 34 pieces I unearthed along the way.

  • My C-List Clothes Are Getting the Boot This Year: Here's What's on the List

My C-List Clothes Are Getting the Boot This Year: Here's What's on the List

    [ad_1]

With a new year in play, it’s only natural that one thinks about resetting and as a fashion editor my mind obviously goes to my wardrobe first. Freshening up my wardrobe not only comes with a much-needed clean out but also probes me to reflect on the trends I’m ready to toss and forecast those I’m looking to try out.

Trends are ever changing and in a world plagued by consumerism and quick, easy purchasing, I’ve found it an important introspection to make sure I’m abiding by at least a one-in, one-out policy with my closet.

Living a fast-paced, city lifestyle and realizing that investing in my clothing is of utmost importance, I found that the A-list clothes I’m looking forward to adding all hinge on practicality. And in return, the ones I’m losing are those that don’t offer that same functionality. A few I’m tossing include micro mini bags, impractical stilettos, and Y2k baby tees, and in return, I’m adding medium-sized shoppers, sensible sling backs, and athletic jerseys.

Below, I’ve detailed all the exciting trends I’m looking forward to bringing in this year as well as an accompanying shopping list in case you’re looking for a refresh too.

  • I Started a Strict Hair Routine With 16 Products—Now My Hair Is 4 Inches Longer

I Started a Strict Hair Routine With 16 Products—Now My Hair Is 4 Inches Longer

    [ad_1]

I love having long hair. I love braiding it, fiddling with it when I’m bored, and tossing it into messy buns and claw clip hairstyles. Beyond the simple joy it brings me, the look also suits me best. That’s not just a personal opinion; I’ve had multiple friends and hairstylists tell me to keep my hair long and, I quote, “embrace a late-60searly-70s vibe.” So, that’s what I do.

The only problem is that my hair is naturally dry, and I add insult to injury when I get it highlighted on a semi-regular basis. I know bleach isn’t good for anyone’s hair, but it’s particularly devastating to my fine, fragile strands. After leaving the salon, it’s only a matter of time before I experience intense damage and split ends.

Last year, it got so bad, I could visibly see my long hair getting shorter and shorter. For every inch it grew, it lost two to breakage. It got to the point where my hair was inches shorter than it had been before without any scissors going near it. As a beauty editor, I knew it was time to get serious and set myself up on a strict haircare routine. I’m happy to say that after six months, my hair is back to its former glory (even better if I do say so myself). Ahead, see 16 strengthening products I swear by for longer, healthier hair.

10 Stylish Brands L.A. Girls Know About That NYC Girls Don't

    [ad_1]

New York tends to get all the attention for emerging fashion brands, but this L.A. girl is starting to feel a bit, well, jealous. It’s just that the East Coast has shined in the spotlight as this country’s fashion capital for long enough, and biased as I may be, there’s a lot happening over here on the Pacific side of the continental U.S. that’s just as buzz-worthy.

In reality, I hate even comparing the two cities because they’re almost too different to warrant such a comparison, but I have a feeling the rivalry will persist, which is why I’m going out of my way today to point out the thriving scene of smaller indie and emerging names we Angelenos have. Don’t worry—I’m not trying to slam you, New York. I’m only trying to show that the following Los Angeles clothing brands are the kind that every stylish Angeleno knows about but won’t be spilling to her NYC friends anytime soon. Hey, we have to have some of our own nice things, right?

It’s only natural, then, that the overarching theme of the following 10 brands is of the laid-back, fun-loving, and—dare I say—”chill” variety that this sunny city is known for. Expect to discover everything from retro-inspired disco pants to romantic lingerie and cool basics in the below roundup. You might even find yourself arguing that L.A. is the better coast. (If so, I’ll have taught you well.)
