  • Groundbreaking Adorable Children’s Book Celebrates Adoption, Acceptance, & Animal Advocacy

Groundbreaking Adorable Children’s Book Celebrates Adoption, Acceptance, & Animal Advocacy

Renowned NYC media personality, entrepreneur, and fashionista Lara Eurdolian introduces her latest project this November—an enchanting children’s book that celebrates the magic of adoption and blended families through the endearing lens of animals. Simultaneously, it serves a noble mission, aiding animals in their quest to find their forever homes.

Charlie at the Pom Springs Hotel is a captivating journey inspired by a true story, chronicling the heartwarming adventure of Lara and her husband during a trip to Palm Springs, where they serendipitously meet and rescue Charlie—a senior Pomeranian who had made the hotel lobby his home.

Within the charming pages of this book, Charlie assumes the role of a tour guide at the Pom Springs Hotel. He introduces families to his unique animal friends, each living harmoniously within their blended families. While Charlie revels in his job and the companionship of his animal buddies, he nurtures the dream of finding his forever family. The book’s poignant conclusion witnesses Charlie’s heartwarming journey to a loving home in bustling NYC.

In a pioneering move, the hotel partnered with a local animal shelter to establish a pet adoption program. Here, dogs like Charlie found temporary refuge in the lobby, where guests could engage with and walk them until they found their forever homes. Charlie marked the 42nd success story of this partnership. Eurdolian aspires to inspire other hotels to follow suit and embrace foster and adoption programs.

Eurdolian, fueled by her passion for animal welfare, aims to be a beacon of hope. “1.5 million adoptable animals face the tragic fate of euthanasia each year. We’re determined to make a difference,” Eurdolian declares. “With shelters overwhelmed, we’re on a mission to rally people and hotels to champion foster and adoption programs. Imagine if every pet-friendly hotel fostered a dog.”

Eurdolian and Charlie have long been dedicated animal advocates, volunteering and collaborating with local shelters. Now, as authors, they’re expanding their reach. “We pledge to donate $1 from every first edition book sold, and we’re forging partnerships with various organizations,” Eurdolian reveals. “Our agenda includes not just financial support but also organizing adoption events with hotels and enhancing the visibility of shelter animals.”

When asked about the core lessons she hopes young readers glean from Charlie’s tale, Eurdolian emphasizes, “Kindness and acceptance of different types of blended families—plus, it’s okay to ask questions. Questions lead to understanding and learning. This story carries a special message about blended families, particularly resonating with adopted children and families with rescued animals.”

For more information about the animal organizations, Eurdolian is collaborating with prettyconnected.com/charlie. Follow Charlie’s real-life adventures on Instagram @pompomcharlie and @prettyconnected.

Charlie at the Pom Springs Hotel is available for pre-order now at Pretty Connected and Blue Balloon Bookstore and major retailers, including Amazon, Target, and Barnes & Noble, starting November 11th.

Mrs. Claus Charts the Path for Santa in New Children’s Book

New children’s book written by four generations of first-born daughters shares the story of Mrs. Claus who delivers pajamas on Christmas Eve.

    Press Release

    Nov 17, 2021

While the retail industry is facing massive toy shortages for the holiday season, the Jammie Claus Company in Cleveland, Ohio, is prepared to stock empty store shelves and ship directly to customers a new children’s book about the woman everyone knows but knows nothing about–Mrs. Claus.

Jammie Claus: The Christmas Tradition of Unconditional Giving shares the story of Mrs. Claus, who delivers pajamas on Christmas Eve. The book comes in a beautiful box with a green velvet bag that children leave out before Christmas Eve night. As the story tells, Mrs. Claus fills the bag with pajamas and hides it around their home. When the children find the filled bag, they know Santa is on his way.

Tradition holds that Santa gives presents on the condition that children are good. However, Mrs. Claus gives pajamas unconditionally on Christmas Eve because she wants each child to feel safe, loved, valuable, and worthy.

“As a social enterprise, an integral part of the Jammie Claus Company is our strong belief and commitment to help those in need by spreading unconditional love and kindness throughout the world. This vision guided our process of writing the Jammie Claus book and is the foundation to our charitable mission,” shares Dr. Megan Holmes, co-author and co-illustrator.

Recognizing that nationally over 111,000 children will be spending Christmas Eve in a shelter, the Jammie Claus Company has partnered with several domestic violence and homeless shelters throughout the U.S. as part of their annual pajama drive. For every family pajama set donated, the Jammie Claus Company will be donating a Jammie Claus book set. You can help brighten these children’s Christmas Eve by making a donation for pajamas.

The charitable mission is not only important to the Jammie Claus Company, but also to 44% of millennials that are choosing brands based on the brand’s values and purpose, a recent study by McKinsey finds. Grandparents also enjoy starting a tradition that will be passed on for generations to come. “Our customers feel good about purchasing a product that supports giving back to nonprofits that empower women and promote resilience in children,” said Holmes.

About Jammie Claus Company: The Jammie Claus Company is a social enterprise committed to empowering women and promoting resilience in children. Our vision is to spread unconditional love and kindness. The Jammie Claus book was written by four generations of first-born daughters–Dr. Megan Holmes’s daughter (Madeline Holmes), mother (Dr. Linda O’Dell), and grandmother (Diana Schneider).

  • Bay Area Author’s Latest Work, ’52’, Sparks Powerful Message in a Lonely, COVID-19 World

Bay Area Author’s Latest Work, ’52’, Sparks Powerful Message in a Lonely, COVID-19 World

Inspired by the incredible true story of the 52-hertz whale, author Johnny DePalma’s latest rhyming picture book, ’52 – A Tale of Loneliness’, echoes emotions that may be felt at home.

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 23, 2021

Known throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for curating the pandemic’s Emergency Art Museum (emergencyartmuseum.com), award-winning author Johnny DePalma’s latest literary accomplishment dives deep into innate human feelings, emotions, and loneliness – something all too common in a COVID-19 world.

“I would say all my books are somewhat autobiographical,” said DePalma, regarding his latest book, ’52 – A Tale of Loneliness.’ “Loneliness is such a universal and complex emotion. For me, my days of loneliness were also my days of unlimited imagination. I would take the time to connect with all of the small, seemingly invisible things in my life. And, looking back, I think those moments we’re incredibly important. Years later, when I learned about the 52-hertz whale, (also known as the loneliest whale in the world) I knew I wanted to write a book that reconnects with that misunderstood emotion.”

This children’s tale, recommended for ages 4-8, has recently hit home for an audience of all ages. Taking place far beneath the beautiful sea, a unique whale sings a song that is all his own. Told in short, poetic passages, this whale, simply known as 52, celebrates the joy of life he’s found beneath the ocean waves. Yet, despite his isolation, 52 remains optimistic and introduces readers to the magic, beauty, and joy found within his own invisible world.

DePalma details the beauty of isolation with effortlessness throughout the book, writing, “And that’s all mine! I get to see, the things invisible, like me! So, every night, I say hello, to all the barnacles below. To every bubble, kelp, and shell. To every grain of sand as well. For all these things make up my home, and with them, I don’t feel alone.”

“It’s been greatly inspired by the California coast,” said DePalma. “After all, that is where the real-life 52-hertz whale has been known to travel. In 2018, my good friend and illustrator, Kyle Brown and I took a research trip from Point Conception, to Monterey, and eventually through San Francisco to find the creative spark needed for the illustrations in this book. I couldn’t be happier with the result. It’s my hope that children and families alike will uncover that same special spark of joy that 52 has found. Considering what we’ve all been going through, I think embracing some of these feelings, and putting a voice to them is going to be an important step for children moving forward.”

DePalma went on to say, “As children start heading back to school, social and emotional learning tools are going to be imperative. Characters like 52 are there to help guide children through those difficult feelings and to help them find their voice in a world that might suddenly feel a bit different. I want children to know that being unique can be a positive and powerful thing. Sometimes, it just takes the right perspective for them to see that.”

One recent reviewer stated, “DePalma effectively validates feelings that are relatable to children of various ages. Although 52 experiences loneliness, and sometimes feels invisible, he still sings, and his tale is not a sad one. This good-natured whale exemplifies themes of self-acceptance, individuality, contentment, empathy, bravery, and joy.” – Cecilia_L

Terra Jolé, of “Dancing with the Stars,” fame stated, “This book is a wonderful way for children to feel content with who they are. This speaks loudly to me as a mother isolating her family through the pandemic. Embracing a world you’re creating for yourself is a powerful message in a children’s book.”

To date, 52 – A Tale of Loneliness has won a Mom’s Choice Gold Award, and a Reader’s Favorite Five Stars. The book also includes a downloadable companion audiobook read by Emmy Award-winning actor, Patton Oswalt.

  • Pediatric Doctor Set to Launch a New Type of Children’s Book, Dubbed Command Books, that Inspires a Love for Reading

Pediatric Doctor Set to Launch a New Type of Children’s Book, Dubbed Command Books, that Inspires a Love for Reading

New York Pediatric Doctor, Dr. Chiamaka Agbasionwe, has embarked on a mission to inspire a love of reading among kids with the upcoming launch of a new type of children’s book called Command Books.

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 28, 2020

Studies have revealed that screen time has doubled in the last two decades. But what’s more frightening is that kids are being exposed to far more screen time than recommended by pediatric experts. This has resulted in decreased human-to-human interactions and also a reduction in the time spent reading. Research has shown that reading is fundamental to building intelligence and ultimately leads to economic success. Letter World LLC’s, founded by Dr. Agbasionwe, new kind of children’s books offers a fun way to improve childhood literacy in America.

The I Say Mommy Does: Verbs for Feet and I Say Daddy Does: Verbs for Feet Command Books series are designed for kids between the ages of 4-7 years old who are capable of reading some sight words but struggle to enjoy reading. Command Books address their lack of motivation for reading with short sentences that captivate their attention from beginning to end.

This delightful board book flips the script on the parent-child relationship, allowing the child to give their parents instructions using common verbs. To prompt the action, the child has to read the instruction or question and the parent has to perform the commands. The Command books put kids in charge, but all the while they are actually doing what the parents want them to do – and that is reading. The book is ideal for busy parents, and kids will learn new verbs for feet while getting ready for bed.

The Command Book series is Dr. Agbasionwe’s debut work as an author; however, the wit and thoughtfulness of the Command Book series show her experience as a pediatric doctor. When asked about the motivation for writing the series, she explained: “Parents often tell me how their kids prefer to watch TV or YouTube than read. Such concerns touched me because I know that without a love for reading, I would not be where I am today. I created the Command Book series because I want to inspire a love of reading at an early age with engaging resources and books.”

The Command Books series is set to release in December 2020. Pre-orders are now open on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/3m6LGnY. Either Dr. Agbasionwe meets her fundraising goal by the deadline (November 18) or all money will be refunded to backers and the project will be unsuccessful. Please support her mission that all kids love to read by pre-ordering or donating today.

New Book, ‘Was That You?’ for Bereaved Parents to Read to Children Who Have Passed On

    Press Release

    updated: May 3, 2020

Angela Simoes and her husband lost their 9-month-old son, Alexandre, suddenly and unexpectedly in February of 2019. Since then, the Simoes family has received an outpouring of support from the community. One of the biggest gestures of support has been the establishment and funding of the Alexandre Antonio da Costa Simoes Memorial Scholarship with PALCUS. This scholarship has been 100% funded by community donations, and currently totals more than $20,000.

To continue funding this scholarship, Angela has authored a book about the signs one receives from a loved one who is in Heaven.  The book titled “Was that you?” has been published on May 3, Alexandre’s birthday and also International Bereaved Mother’s Day, and will be available on Amazon only. The proceeds from this book will fund the scholarship in Alexandre’s memory.

The book is written in the style of a children’s book so that parents who have lost a child can read this book to them.

“It might sound like a strange concept, reading a book to a child who has passed, but for me, it’s a way not only to stay connected with our son, but also to recognize that his spirit is still around us,” said Simoes.  “Also, as a mom, I want to do whatever I can for my children, and this is something I can do for him, and honor his memory.”

  • New Children’s Book That Celebrates Diversity in Architecture Launches on Kickstarter

New Children’s Book That Celebrates Diversity in Architecture Launches on Kickstarter

African-American women make up only 444 out of 113,554 architects in the US. One children’s book sets out to change that.

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 29, 2018

Norman’s Architecture Adventure, a children’s book that celebrates diversity in the architecture field, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

“Norman’s Architecture Adventure” is about a young African-American boy who wants to be an architect like his mom. She is his inspiration and best friend but he gets restless one day when she is busy working and he wants to explore. His curiosity gets the better of him as he sets out on his own into the unknown, meets new friends, and learns that having an imagination is the greatest adventure anyone can have.

This book was inspired by my friend who is one of the youngest female African-American architects in the United States. The story subtly challenges gender and racial roles while celebrating a child’s innocence and imagination. I hope it can be part of a larger movement to encourage greater diversity in the profession I love.

    Joshua Sanabria, Author & Illustrator

“This book was inspired by my friend who is one of the youngest female African-American architects in the United States,” said Josh Sanabria, author and illustrator of Norman’s Architecture Adventure. “The story subtly challenges gender and racial roles while celebrating a child’s innocence and imagination. I hope it can be part of a larger movement to encourage greater diversity in the profession I love.”

Efforts to encourage more African-American women to pursue a career in architecture could not be more timely. Recent statistics convey a profession that is drastically behind the curve. The University of Cincinnati’s Database of African-American architects reports that out of 113,554 architects in the United States only 444 are African-American women.

This incredibly small 0.39 percent represents an opportunity for positive disruption from the top of the profession down to how children are inspired to pursue a life in architecture from an early age.

“Norman’s Architecture Adventure” is being published by GoArchitect, an indie publishing company on a mission to foster curious and creative confidence in order to unlock generations of innovators, leaders, and positive thinkers.

To learn more and support this mission-driven campaign, Norman’s Architecture Adventure is available on Kickstarter until November 23rd.

A Team of World-Renowned Designers & Educators Create a Children’s Book About Fitting in & Finding Your Way

The Shapeless Shape inspires individuality, creativity, and diversity – created by Victor Saad, David Kelley, Edu Vea, and Matthew Hoffman

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 11, 2017

A team of educators and innovators, including Experience Institute founder, Victor Saad, and the founder of IDEO & the Stanford d.school, David Kelley, have collaborated on a new children’s book. The Shapeless Shape tackles the challenge of finding a place where creativity, unique talents, and individuality can shine.

Set in a world where circles, squares, and triangles go to school to learn what they can become, the book tells the story of one shape — a shapeless shape — that just doesn’t fit. Spanish designer Edu Vea and world-renowned artist Matthew Hoffman bring the text to life with illustrations composed of hand-crafted wooden shapes.

As a parent, you are always looking for unique ways to encourage your kids and spark their curiosity and dreams. These are the kinds of stories I want my daughter to read.

    Mike Worley, Father

The book is playfully designed for all ages and genders. Young audiences will have fun hunting for familiar shapes, and watching basic elements combine to create buildings and landscapes, characters and obstacles. Hello, My Name is Oliver by Paymaneh Ritchie Shows Us How to Deal with Mental Health Issues

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 22, 2016

Like many classics for young readers, such as Winnie the Pooh, Paymaneh Ritchie’s “Hello, My Name is Oliver”, was written by a parent to entertain and educate their own child. Told from the perspective of a lovable but depressive six-year-old Beagle-Springer Spaniel who was adopted from the SPCA, this children’s book delves into mental health issues that include separation anxiety, depression, and self-worth.

Paymaneh’s aim is to create an easy to read, light-hearted story that will enable parents to discuss tolerance, acceptance and unconditional love with children.

Through Oliver’s experiences, the author utilizes words such as depression, anxiety, adaptability, unconditional love and understanding to allow parents to elaborate and educate their children whilst bonding and strengthening their relationship through sharing a story and hopefully a few hugs!

    Paymaneh Ritchie, Author

Hello, My Name Is Oliver” is a middle-grade book written in an easy, conversational tone to encourage young readers and their parents into a natural flow of discussion regarding the ‘big’ issues Oliver faces in his simple, yet universal life.  This true story is told through Oliver’s eyes as he views his humans’ world.

Oliver is a loyal, neurotic, and lovable abandoned dog who is unsure about his self-worth until he meets his new family at a local SPCA.  His new home offers him a second chance in life along with a human sister and an extended family that adore him.  But of course, fitting into a new family requires Oliver to ‘train’ his humans about his anxiety, depression, and excitability.  As Oliver and his new family tackle these all too common issues and practice unconditional love, they learn to coexist and compromise. Until of course Lexi, the new blue eyed puppy shows up and turns Ollie’s life upside down again!

Through Oliver’s experiences, the author utilizes words such as depression, anxiety, adaptability, unconditional love and understanding to allow parents to elaborate and educate their children whilst bonding and strengthening their relationship through sharing a story and hopefully a few hugs!

Paymaneh states, “Making children aware (at their capacity) of important mental and emotional issues surrounding us all, hopefully enables us parents to raise compassionate, understanding and tolerant humans with self-love that extends to all.”

“Sometimes discussing these issues can be tough when asked by a child, but through “Oliver”, I have found an easy way to approach, describe and in turn create an easy platform regarding these very important issues,” adds Paymaneh.

Hello, My Name Is Oliver is available on Amazon in Hardcover, softcover or E-book format.

Marriah Publishing Announces New Children’s Book released and being promoted for the upcoming holidays!

Marriah Publishing is proud to introduce new children’s book:  Erica from America: Swimming from Europe to Africa, which tells the story of Erica, who, as a child grew up wanting to do everything, and later decided to swim the Strait of Gibraltar. Her friends think she is crazy but Erica is determined (even if a little nervous) and decides she is going to swim from Europe to Africa no matter what. But when she gets to Spain, her plans are interrupted by the winds and another group of swimmers, who befriend her and ask her to swim with them. But ultimately, she and the other swimmers are all set to swim. They reach their goal to swim from Europe to Africa but not without a lot of activity during the swim!

Erica has written an incredible story for children of all ages (and adults!)…it’s a story of inspiration and perseverance and proves that you can accomplish your dreams if you only believe in yourself and be dedicated to your goals. As a fellow swimmer I was touched by this heart warming story.
