  • Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Halloween party with Princess Eugenie

    [ad_1]

Meghan Markle has previously revealed that her “final fun night out” before news of her relationship with Prince Harry broke, was a Halloween bash with Princess Eugenie.

Here is everything she said about their special and spooky night…

In a chat with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show in 2021, Meghan spilled the tea on her very special Halloween in 2016.

Prince Harry came to visit her in Toronto with his cousin Princess Eugenie and her now hubby, Jack Brooksbank.

The two couples then hit the town. And of course, they were in Halloween disguise!

“The four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple,” the Duchess of Sussex explained.

Meghan explained that they ended up donning “very bizarre” costumes which rendered them unrecognisable to prying eyes.

“We were able to just sort of have one final, fun night out,” Meghan explained. Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres chimed in: “Now there are people who are at home going, ‘I was at that party.’ ”

The Halloween celebrations followed Harry and Meghan’s whirlwind romance. The couple had met blind date during the summer of 2016, just a couple of months before.

Following speculation about his relationship with Meghan, on November 8 of 2016, the prince confirmed their relationship.

He also condemned the “wave of abuse and harassment” that Meghan had already faced after being linked to the royal.

Meghan Markle on what Halloween is like for the couple now

During her chat on Ellen, Meghan gave an insight into how much their Halloween celebrations had changed since welcoming their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

“We wanted to do something fun for the kids. And then the kids were just not into it at all,” Meghan laughed.

Meghan said that Archie had a dinosaur costume on to mark the festivities.

Unfortunately, he only wore the outfit for “about five minutes.”

“Not even five minutes,” Ellen quipped.

“Finally, Harry talked him into putting the head on,” Meghan giggled.

Meanwhile, Lilibet was dressed up as a skunk. “Like Flower from Bambi,” Meghan explained. Awww!

Harry and Meghan’s fun before the storm

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also lifted the lid on their Halloween night out with Princess Eugenie in their 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan.

“[Harry] said, ‘Well, if it’s gonna come out tomorrow, let’s go and have fun tonight!’” Meghan recalled in the first episode of the series.

“We went to this Halloween party where we could be completely dressed up and no one would know,” Harry explained. “I had a bandana and goggles.”

“You borrowed a great costume,” Meghan agreed. “And we were like, ‘Well, this might be our last shot to just go out and have fun in the world.’”

  • King Charles strips Andrew of remaining royal titles amid Jeffrey Epstein fallout

    [ad_1]

King Charles removed the remaining royal titles from his brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly a prince. He’s also been ordered to leave his royal residence amid the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein sex abuse scandal.

  • Prince Andrew stripped of titles and must surrender lease to Royal Lodge in Windsor

    [ad_1]

Prince Andrew is being stripped of his titles and must surrender his lease to Royal Lodge, the mansion in Windsor where he lives, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” the statement said. “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.”

Andrew had recently said he would stop using his royal titles and honors, including the Duke of York, but Thursday’s statement on behalf of King Charles III and Queen Camilla initiated the formal process of revoking all his titles, including prince.

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the statement said.

Andrew has come under intense scrutiny over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and accusations from Virginia Giuffre that she was trafficked to engage in sex with the prince while she was underage. Andrew has denied the allegations. He reached a settlement with Giuffre in 2022. Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the statement said.

In a memoir published posthumously, Giuffre detailed her alleged encounters with Andrew.

“He was friendly enough, but still entitled — as if he believed having sex with me was his birthright,” she wrote. “The next morning, [Ghislaine] Maxwell told me: ‘You did well. The prince had fun.’ Epstein would give me $15,000 for servicing the man the tabloids called ‘Randy Andy.’”

In 2022, Andrew gave up his military affiliations, royal patronages and official public duties. He also stopped using the title “His Royal Highness.”

Andrew had faced heavy criticism from the British public over his living arrangements, with many voicing concern that he continued to live in his mansion on a royal estate despite the accusations leveled against him and his retreat from royal duties.

His 75-year lease for Royal Lodge, signed in 2003, included an up-front payment of around 8 million pounds (around $10.5 million) and an annual rent described as a “peppercorn,” meaning an extremely small amount, according to CBS News’ partner network BBC News. Part of that payment was for renovations to the property, which at the time was in a state of disrepair, and Buckingham Palace felt that having Andrew pay the cost to upgrade the property was better than using public funds, BBC reported.

The lease had previously been referred to as “cast iron,” and Buckingham Palace said it needed to negotiate with Andrew in order to remove him, but did not provide further information about the details of those negotiations.

Buckingham Palace said Andrew will move out of the residence as soon as possible and will move to a property on the Sandringham estate, located about 100 miles north of London.

  • Prince Andrew to be stripped of titles and to move out of Royal Lodge

    [ad_1]

King Charles has “initiated a formal process” to strip Prince Andrew of all his royal titles as he prepares to move out of Royal Lodge.

Andrew, 65, has been at the centre of much scandal for many years.

He has faced scrutiny over his association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew was accused of sexual assault, allegations he has always vehemently denied.

On October 17, Andrew announced he would stop using his Duke of York title amid controversy surrounding him.

Buckingham Palace issues new statement on Prince Andrew

The royal will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

A statement from the palace read on Thursday: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

    Where will Andrew live?

As reported by ITV, it’s understood that although Andrew denies all the allegations against him, Buckingham Palace considers that there have been “serious lapses of judgment”.

Andrew will move to a property on the Sandringham Estate, it’s also understood.

Any future accommodation will be privately funded by the king, according to reports.

It comes just under two weeks after Andrew announced he would stop using his Duke of York title.

A statement from him read: “In discussion with the king, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the royal family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

He added: “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

    Andrew scandal

The October 17 statement came amid the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir.

In the book, which she wrote before she took her own life in April, detailed her allegations against the prince.

Ms Giuffre alleged she was made to have sex with the prince on three occasions when she was 17 in the early 2000s, after being trafficked by Epstein.

Ms Giuffre had sued Andrew in 2021 in a US civil case, accusing him of sexual assault. An out-of-court settlement was reached in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The royal repeated that the settlement did not mean any liability or admission of guilt.

  • ‘Secret concerns’ prediction made over Prince William as he’s ‘reluctant to ask for help’

    [ad_1]

As the end of the year approaches, an astrologer has shared fresh predictions into what the final months of 2025 may hold for members of the royal family, and for Prince William, the cards suggest a quiet inner struggle.

Speaking to psychic and tarot reading website Tarotoo, astrologer Inbaal Honigman revealed the Tarot forecasts for senior royals, including the king, queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

While several family members appear to be winding down or focusing on family life, William’s reading paints a more emotionally conflicted picture.

Prince William will reportedly be dealing with “secret concerns” and “emotional uncertainty” over the next few months, an astrologer has predicted (Credit: Cover Images)

Prince William dealing with ‘secret concerns’

The future king was associated with the Five of Pentacles, a card traditionally linked to emotional uncertainty, hidden burdens, and fear of inadequacy.

According to Inbaal, this suggests that Prince William will begin to feel the weight of his duties piling up as the year comes to a close.

“The apprehensive 5 of Pentacles card speaks of secret concerns and emotional uncertainty,” Inbaal explained. She noted that the prince may feel overwhelmed but unwilling to delegate tasks, even as his calendar overflows: “William is reluctant to ask for help, because everyone else is so busy too.”

William will continue to be a prominent presence at charity functions, official events, and royal engagements. But behind the scenes, he may be “taking on too much”.

Meanwhile, King Charles received the Ace of Swords, a card that represents “contracts, paperwork, bills and signatures”. Inbaal said this suggests the monarch will be “spending the next few weeks at a desk,” dealing with administrative duties.

While not glamorous, the card hints at involvement in “an interesting government initiative” that could shape royal priorities heading into 2026.

Kate, Princess of Wales, ‘focused on doing good’

For Queen Camilla, the King of Swords revealed a period of discipline and diligence. Inbaal explained that Camilla will be focused on “tying up loose ends” and completing office-related work. Although some travel is on the cards, it will be limited to shorter domestic journeys, rather than major tours.

“It is a Tarot card of getting down to work and finishing up projects,” she added.

The Princess of Wales drew the Princess of Cups, a maternal card tied to emotional depth and caregiving. According to Inbaal, Kate will spend the tail end of the year balancing personal time with public service.

“Towards the end of the year, Catherine is focusing on doing good. Spending quality time with her own family, while also fitting in hospital visits and active support of Royal Foundations,” the astrologer said.

William is reluctant to ask for help, because everyone else is so busy too.

Across the Atlantic, Prince Harry’s card, nicknamed “Temptation”, suggests a lively end to his year. Inbaal described the card as one tied to parties, events, and social outings.

“It’s a card of socialising, parties and events,” she explained, teasing a new venture on the horizon. “This also reveals a new project for the US resident, which we’ll find out about come January.”

In contrast, Meghan Markle’s card, the Hermit, signals a quieter time. Inbaal suggested that the Duchess of Sussex will opt for peace and privacy in the final months of the year.

“[She will be] staying indoors, cooking, catching up on entertainment,” she said. Rather than public engagements, Meghan will “grant herself permission to enjoy a peaceful few weeks”.

  • Royal family website makes big change after Prince Andrew title announcement

    [ad_1]

A big change has appeared on the royal family’s official website following Prince Andrew’s announcement regarding his title.

The prince, 65, has been at the centre of much scandal over the last few years. He has faced scrutiny over his association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He has also been accused of sexual assault, allegations he has always vehemently denied. Virginia Giuffre alleged she was made to have sex with the prince in the early 2000s after being trafficked by Epstein.

Last week, Prince Andrew faced headlines due to Ms Giuffre’s upcoming posthumous memoir, which she wrote before her tragic death. She took her own life in April.

On Friday (October 17), Andrew officially announced that he will be giving up his royal dukedom and remaining honours. Now, just days later, it seems the wheels are already very much in motion.

Prince Andrew gives up royal title

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Friday evening, Prince Andrew said: “In discussion with the king, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the royal family.”

“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life,” he went on.

I will no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.

He then added: “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

This means that Prince Andrew will no longer use the title of Duke of York, which he has held since his wedding day in 1986.

He has also given up his Order of the Garter membership, which he has had since 2006. However, he remains a prince as he was born with this title as the second son of Queen Elizabeth II.

    Royal family website updated

And it seems there’s been no hanging about. The official royal family website, royal.uk, has had an update.

All previous references to the “Duke of York” seem to have been rapidly removed. Most notably, a section introducing different members of the royal family now sees Andrew listed as “Prince Andrew” rather than the “Duke of York”.

His header now reads: “On 13 January 2022, Buckingham Palace announced that, with Queen Elizabeth II’s approval and agreement, Prince Andrew’s military affiliations and Royal patronages would be returned to Her late Majesty, and The Prince would not return to public duties. Prior to stepping back from public life, Prince Andrew undertook a wide range of public work, with a strong economic and business focus.”

Recent reports claimed that Prince Andrew’s decision to give up his titles was triggered by a “threat” from his brother, King Charles.

A source claimed the king had threatened to have his brother officially stripped of his royal title if he refused to give it up.

  • London police investigating report Prince Andrew asked officer to dig up

    [ad_1]

The Metropolitan Police in London said it is “actively looking into” a newspaper report that Prince Andrew asked an officer assigned to him as a bodyguard “to dig up dirt” on sexual assault accuser Virginia Giuffre in 2011.

The report, in the Mail on Sunday, said that Andrew provided the bodyguard with Giuffre’s date of birth and confidential social security number to try to find out if she had a criminal record or any potentially damaging information about her just before the U.K.-based newspaper was due to publish a photo of Giuffre’s first meeting with the prince.

It’s not clear if the officer complied with the request. Giuffre’s family said she didn’t have a criminal record.

The report follows Buckingham Palace’s announcement on Friday that Andrew had agreed to relinquish his royal title Duke of York and other British honors after emails emerged showing he had remained in contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein longer than he had previously admitted.

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, said in the statement. “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

Giuffre, who died by suicide in April, sued Andrew in 2021, alleging that he forced her to engage in sexual acts against her will when she was 17 years old. She has accused Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, of trafficking her to Andrew. The two reached an out-of-court settlement in 2022. Andrew has denied the allegations.

In a statement to CBS News, Guiffre’s family said they believe Prince Andrew’s decision to give up his royal titles is “vindication for our sister and survivors everywhere.” They called on Charles to strip him of the title of prince.

“This moment serves as victory for Virginia, who consistently maintained, ‘He knows what happened, I know what happened, and there’s only one of us telling the truth, and I know that’s me,’” the statement said. “This is not just a victory for her, but for every single survivor of the horrific crimes perpetrated by Epstein and his co-conspirators.”

The emergence of the emails was another blow for the House of Windsor after years of tawdry headlines about Andrew’s dodgy friends and suspicious business deals.

The move to insulate the monarchy from Andrew’s scandals has been ongoing since November 2019, when he gave up all of his public duties and charity roles after a disastrous interview when he sought to counter media reports about his friendship with Epstein and deny allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old Giuffre.

Andrew was widely criticized for failing to show empathy for Epstein’s victims and for offering unbelievable explanations for his friendship with the disgraced financier.

The BBC interview, in which he said he cut off contact with Epstein in 2010, came back to haunt him and sowed the seeds for his demotion when it emerged that he had emailed Epstein 12 weeks later. Prince Andrew told Epstein in the note that they were “in this together” and would “have to rise above it.”

British Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who was serving as the government’s representative on the Sunday morning news programs, said a police officer should not be enlisted in a smear campaign.

“These are deeply concerning allegations,” Miliband told the BBC. “I think people want to look at those allegations and what the substance is behind them. But if that is correct, that is absolutely not the way that close protection officers should be used.”

In his statement on Friday, Andrew said he continues to “vigorously deny” the accusations.

As well as no longer being known as the Duke of York, Andrew will also give up other titles: Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

He will remain a prince, a title he was given at birth.

  • King Charles could ‘banish Prince Andrew from Order of the Garter’ amid scandal

    [ad_1]

King Charles is considering “banishing” Prince Andrew from the Order of the Garter, a new report claims.

The Duke of York, 65, has been at the centre of much scandal over the last few years.

In July, it was claimed that Prince Andrew had reportedly been sent a clear “reminder” by King Charles that his role within the royal family remains firmly restricted.

It came amid developments in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Andrew has faced scrutiny in recent years over his association with the late convicted sex offender.

    Prince Andrew scandal

In January 2022, Prince Andrew was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages. The decision came as Andrew faced a US lawsuit over sexual assault allegations.

In 2021, Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit against the royal in the US, accusing him of sexual assault. She alleged that she was made to sleep with Prince Andrew on three occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

The duke has repeatedly denied the allegations.

In February 2022, the prince and Ms Giuffre reached an out-of-court settlement. Prince Andrew paid Ms Giuffre an undisclosed sum. However, the duke made it clear, by doing so, he did not accept any liability.

In the years since, Prince Andrew has found himself increasingly sidelined in the royal family. He rarely attends public events, only being seen at some private royal occasions.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, there are “top-level discussions under way” at Buckingham Palace over the Duke of York.

It comes amid fresh allegations emerging from Ms Giuffre’s upcoming posthumous memoir, which she wrote before her tragic death. She took her own life in April at the age of 41.

Could King Charles ‘banish’ Prince Andrew from Order of the Garter?

The publication claims that Prince Andrew could lose his Order of the Garter membership. He was made a Knight of the Garter in 2006.

The Order of the Garter is Britain’s most senior order of chivalry. It was founded by King Edward III in 1348.

Today, the Order includes the king as Sovereign of the Garter, several senior members of the royal family, and knights chosen in recognition of their work.

Royal Insider has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

    Prince Andrew’s Epstein scandal

Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2019 following his BBC Newsnight interview, where he addressed his friendship with Epstein and the allegations of sexual assault against him.

Then, in 2022, he was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Andrew hasn’t returned to royal duties since.

In August 2024, he was described as “a little bit reclusive,” amid reports of tension with King Charles over his continued residence at Royal Lodge, a grand property in Windsor that Andrew has refused to vacate.

Prince Andrew’s ‘links’ to Chinese spy

Meanwhile, the Epstein saga is far from the only controversy haunting the Duke of York.

Earlier this year, he was linked to a British intelligence investigation involving a suspected Chinese spy, known initially only as “H6”.

Meanwhile, the individual was later identified as Yang Tengbo, a businessman who voluntarily lifted his anonymity and denied all wrongdoing, calling espionage claims “entirely untrue”.

In response, Prince Andrew’s office issued a statement confirming he had “ceased all contact” with Tengbo. They added that “nothing of a sensitive nature was ever discussed”.

  • Head of Eisenhower library resigns after sword spat with Trump administration

    [ad_1]

The head of a presidential library resigned this week after a tug-of-war with the Trump administration over gift selection and a sword for King Charles III, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News.

Todd Arrington, a career historian who previously held posts with the National Park Service and National Archives and Records Administration, said he stepped down on Monday under pressure as director of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home.

In an interview with CBS News, Arrington said he was told on Monday, “Resign — or be fired.”

“Apparently, they believed I could no longer be trusted with confidential information,” he said. When asked what specific confidential information he’d shared, Arrington said it was “about the sword” and an unrelated matter.

Arrington’s departure came after he resisted taking an original Eisenhower sword out of the library’s collection to give to King Charles last month during President Trump’s unprecedented second state visit to the United Kingdom.

Four U.S. officials involved in the lavish royal visit were unaware that the library director had left his job, and said the White House played no role in his exit.

In a statement last month, Buckingham Palace didn’t specify which sword was given to the monarch, but noted that Charles was given a replica, saying the gift “symbolizes profound respect and is a reminder of the historical partnership that was critical to winning World War II.”

A former Army general, Eisenhower possessed several swords, including a Sword of Honor given to him in 1947 by the city of London for his role as allied supreme commander during World War II, an honor saber gifted to him by the Netherlands in 1947, and his West Point officer saber.

It is not clear who specifically requested the sword. First lady Melania Trump personally decided which gifts to give Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and their children, a senior administration official said.

Officials at the State Department who compiled an array of gift options for the first couple, sought an Eisenhower sword to reiterate the significance of the U.S.-U.K. relationship since World War II, sources said. But Arrington argued against giving away an artifact that had been accepted as a donation and had become the property of the American people.

Arrington told officials he could help find an alternative gift, but sources say State Department officials persisted. The library’s team offered to help find a replica.

Ultimately, West Point provided a Cadet Saber from the military academy.

Arrington said he never spoke with anyone at the White House, but only with officials in the Foreign Gift Office at the State Department and other colleagues at the National Archives.

Some in the Trump administration were unhappy with Arrington, sources said.

NARA didn’t reply to requests for comment, nor did the Eisenhower library, but both entities began operating Wednesday with limited staffing due to the shutdown of the federal government.

Two sources close to the matter said no one said anything to Arrington about being upset about not being able to have a museum piece — the conversations before the U.K. trip about finding a substitute for the real sword were polite and tension-free.

One administration official said Arrington was believed to have spoken critically about the president and the administration — something Arrington strongly disputes.

“That is 100% incorrect,” he said. “I never said a bad word about anybody. I talked to colleagues about trying to find a sword or artifact, something we could give to them for the president to give to the King, and at no time did I disparage anyone.”

“If someone in the administration said that I disparaged the administration, that was never communicated to me,” he added.

The White House plays no formal role in hiring or firing directors of presidential libraries that are part of the National Archives system. The duty of hiring library directors falls instead to the archivist of the United States, who oversees NARA. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is serving as acting archivist, and James Byron, a senior adviser to the archivist, is running day-to-day operations for NARA.

Arrington started in August 2024 as director of the Eisenhower library, in Abilene, Kansas, one of 16 presidential libraries or museums operated by NARA, including those that will be built for Mr. Trump and former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The president’s son, Eric Trump, announced this week their family plans to one day construct the Trump library and museum in Miami.

Arrington said the other reason cited for his ouster is tied to the construction of a new building for the nonprofit Eisenhower Foundation on the grounds of the Eisenhower Library.

The 52-year-old said he is less than five years away from retirement eligibility and is hoping to find a new job at a different federal agency.

But, he said, “If there’s any way for it to happen, I’d return to this job in a heartbeat. I love the job, I love the people, I love the history. I never in a million years wanted this to happen.”

  • Prince Harry meets with his dad King Charles during U.K. visit for the first time in 19 months

    [ad_1]

London — Prince Harry made a rare trip back to the United Kingdom this week, and while most of the visit was filled with public events at charities the Duke of Sussex supports, he also met with his father, King Charles III, for the first time since February 2024.

Harry has said previously that he wants to rebuild his relationship with his family, which has been strained since he and his wife Meghan formally stepped down from their roles as working royals and moved to California.

This meeting was at Buckingham Palace, the monarch’s official residence in London. CBS News has been told they met privately, for tea, but that all other details of the encounter were private.

Speaking to reporters at an event later, Prince Harry said only that his father was “doing great” amid his ongoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.

While Harry hasn’t been a “working royal” for a couple years, he seemed keen to show on this visit to his home nation that he is still prince charming.

The four-day visit was a clear effort to show he hasn’t lost any love for the causes he holds dear, including supporting sick children and wounded military veterans.

Absent on this trip were Harry’s wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and their children, Archie and Lilibet.

In an interview with CBS News’ partner network BBC News in May, Harry said he couldn’t envision bringing them all back to the U.K. with him since he has lost a legal bid to have his downgraded state security detail restored.

Harry said his battle with the U.K. government to get full state-security restored for himself and his family during visits back to Britain caused a rift between himself and his father.

“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile,” he told the BBC.

That reconciliation may have begun on Wednesday. Harry arrived at Buckingham Palace in the afternoon and was seen leaving less than an hour later.

The father and son relationship is not the only bond that has been strained by the circumstances of Harry and Meghan’s departure — and the prince’s tell-all book “Spare,” and their interviews, and a documentary, in which they were highly critical of their treatment at the hands of the royal family.

It has been even longer since Harry met with his brother, Prince William, who is next in line to sit on the British throne.

This week, Prince William and Harry appeared at charity events at the same time, only about 10 miles from each other. But those who follow the royal family say they remain far apart.

“William and Harry haven’t seen each other in person since 2022, since the late queen’s funeral. And I believe they haven’t spoken personally for the same period. So, there’s been no contact,” Roya Nikkhah, the royal editor for the Sunday Times newspaper, told CBS News on Tuesday. “There’s no chance that William and Harry are going to meet up anytime soon… There is no desire on either side to do that. You know, the brothers haven’t seen each other for such a long time and relations are as bad as they’ve ever been — non-existent.”

  • Prince Harry is on a rare visit back to the U.K., but will he see King Charles III or Prince William?

    [ad_1]

London — Britain’s Prince Harry landed back in the U.K. on Monday, the third anniversary of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s death, for a week of public charity engagements, but it was unclear whether he would meet with his father, King Charles III, or his brother, Prince William, neither of whom he has seen in months.

The Duke of Sussex’s packed itinerary began with an award ceremony on Monday for WellChild, a charity for seriously ill children that he supports. Tuesday saw him pay a visit to the central city of Nottingham, with a focus on young people affected by violence, and on Wednesday and Thursday the prince is expected to hold private meetings with representatives from other charities he supports.

Harry’s trip will reportedly be covered at close hand by certain media organizations seen as friendly to the Sussexes. But the question dominating most coverage in Britain has been whether Harry will meet with his father, the king.

King Charles and Prince Harry last saw each other in February 2024, during a half-hour meeting following the king’s announcement of his cancer diagnosis

Harry has been largely estranged from his family since he and wife Meghan moved to the U.S. and spoke out against what they said was racist treatment, including in the prince’s book “Spare.”

“I think if there is any chance of any sort of rapprochement between Charles and Harry, they would need to meet this week,” Roya Nikkhah, the royal editor for the Sunday Times newspaper, told CBS News on Tuesday. “I mean, they’ve not seen each other for 19 months. It’s a very long time.”

“We don’t know when Harry will next be back here. So I think if there isn’t a meeting this week, that gives you an indication that things are really a lot worse on the king’s side than we would hope,” said Nikkhah.

She said a meeting during the prince’s current visit with his brother, future king Prince William, seem much less likely.

You know, the brothers haven’t seen each other for such a long time and relations are as bad as they’ve ever been — non-existent.”

Harry’s wife Meghan last visited the U.K. in September 2022, and the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, have not been in Britain since June that year, for the queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point. And the things they’re going to miss, well, everything… I miss the U.K.,” Harry told CBS News’ news partner network BBC News in May, after losing a legal challenge to have state-provided security increased during visits to his home country.

“I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff… Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive lots of things. But I would love a reconciliation with my family.”

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, will make a rare public appearance after her cancer diagnosis to attend the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday, Kensington Palace confirmed.

Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, will be in the Royal Box on Centre Court to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz play Novak Djokovic. She will hand out the winner’s trophy.

However, the 42-year-old royal will not attend Saturday’s women’s final between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Wimbledon organizers said the winner’s trophy will instead be handed out by Deborah Jevans, the chair of the All England Club.

Kate has been the patron of the All England Club since 2016, with ceremonial duties that include handing out the winner’s trophy after each men’s and women’s singles final.

But she has only made one public appearance since announcing in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer, which was to attend the birthday parade for King Charles III last month.

Kate released a statement before that event saying she was “making good progress” but still had “good days and bad days” as she continued her treatment.

She said she had “been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.”

Prince William has also been a regular at Wimbledon finals but will not be at Sunday’s match. He will instead attend the soccer final between England and Spain at the European Championship in Germany. William is the president of the English Football Association.

Queen Camilla, wife of King Charles III, visited Wimbledon on Wednesday.

London – Catherine, the Princess of Wales, will not return to her public duties to attend a major British military event in early June after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and undergoing chemotherapy. Her father-in-law, King Charles III, who’s still undergoing treatment for cancer, will attend the Trooping the Color parade soon after, but will ride in a car instead of on horseback.

Last week, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said Princess Kate was “not expected to return to work until it’s cleared by her medical team,” but gave no indication of when that might be.

An official confirmed to CBS News on Thursday that Kate would not attend the Colonel’s Review on June 8, which is a formal dress rehearsal for the Trooping the Color parade that takes place exactly a week later in central London.

Kate announced that she was receiving “preventive chemotherapy” in March after being diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer, which she said was discovered during an abdominal surgery a couple months earlier.

King Charles resumed his public engagements a few weeks ago as his treatment continues, though Buckingham Palace said some would be postponed as the U.K. heads for general elections in early July.

Charles paused most of his engagements in February after his diagnosis.

See Princess Diana’s outfits up for rare auction — including dress she wore during John Travolta dance

    [ad_1]

Diana, the Princess of Wales, has long been lauded as a fashion icon. And now, in the biggest auction of her dresses since 1997, some of Princess Diana’s iconic outfits are up for purchase.

Following the sale of one of Diana’s evening dress for more than $1.1 million in December, co-founder of Julien’s Auctions Martin Nolan said on TODAY May 20 that interest in selling more of her garments has skyrocketed.

“Because of that record amount, you’re got press, then of course, people started to come to us and say, ‘We have this to sell, we have that to sell,’” Nolan said. “So we built this sale. We’re still building it, in fact.”

More than 150 items will be on the auction block at Julien’s Auctions, and Nolan said people can start bidding today on their website, ahead of the online and in-person sale on June 27.

    Nathan Congleton / TODAY

Bethan Holt, fashion director at The Telegraph, said on TODAY that before Diana’s death in August 1997, she would use fashion to send messages “in so many ways.”

“You could really tell when she was feeling happy or feeling sad depending on the clothes that she was wearing,” Holt said. “You could tell when she was feeling brave you could really relate to Diana through the clothes that she wore.”

Some of the items available were in TODAY’s Studio 1A for co-anchor Savannah Guthrie to see, such as Diana’s blue ball gown with silver stars, which she wore to the “Phantom of the Opera” in 1986, a luncheon in 1987 and a ballet performance of “Cinderella.”

“She was in touch with fashion economics, Diana, but also she loves to shine a spotlight on designers that were not very well-known,” Nolan said.

Buyers can also bid on the silk magenta dress with black lace on top that Diana wore while dancing with actor John Travolta at the White House in 1985.

    TODAY

“This is just an exquisite, beautiful designed gown,” Nolan said.

In addition to dresses, one of Diana’s iconic yellow power suits with navy trim and gold buttons will also be on the auction block. Diana wore the suit many times as well in the ’80s and ’90s, including when opening a Red Cross in Hong Kong, visiting a military base in Hong Kong and in London, Nolan said.

A floral shirt dress, an outfit Diana wore with her children, Prince William and Prince Harry, is also available for bidders.

“This is for a chic mom,” Nolan said. “She wore it to William’s school sports day, Harry’s school and St. Mary’s Hospital. And again, this is something that’s fashionable today.”

Some of Diana’s accessories are also up for auction, which Nolan described as “unusual,” including a wide-brimmed hat Diana wore in Australia, along with matching blue pumps and a bag.

“Just incredible, stylish, chic Diana,” Nolan said.

  • Kate, Princess of Wales, announces cancer was found during surgery, undergoing preventative chemotherapy

Kate, Princess of Wales, announces cancer was found during surgery, undergoing preventative chemotherapy

    [ad_1]

London — Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced in a video message released Friday that cancer was discovered following her January abdominal surgery and she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy on the advice of her medical team. The announcement came after months of widespread speculation about the 42-year-old princess’ health and controversy over doctored images released by Kensington Palace.

Kate said that the cancer was discovered during tests conducted after her surgery, which had gone well. She did not say what kind of cancer it was or share additional details about her diagnosis.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” Kate said in the video message. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

Kensington Palace said her video message was filmed by BBC Studios in Windsor on Wednesday. In it, Kate said she was in the “early stages” of her chemotherapy treatment.

“I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits,” Kate said in the video. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

She said that she would continue to take the time and space she needs to undergo treatment and recover, and asked the public for understanding.

“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery. At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

Timeline leading up to Princess Kate’s cancer announcement

    09:52

Messages of support for Kate poured in from across the U.K. and around the world.

King Charles said he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace. He said he had remained in the “closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in a statement that Kate “has shown tremendous bravery,” adding, “In recent weeks she has been subjected to intense scrutiny and has been unfairly treated by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media.”

What do we know about Kate’s cancer diagnosis?

Kate did not specify what type of cancer she was diagnosed with. A Kensington Palace spokesman said, “The princess is now on a recovery pathway having commenced a course of preventative chemotherapy in late February.”

CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook said it sounded like Kate’s medical team had found her cancer early.

“You always want to find cancer in the earliest stages,” LaPook said. “They went in there to do whatever procedure they were going to do, and they knew it was going to be some prolonged recovery, and in there, presumably when they were able to take a good look, they didn’t see any evidence of cancer. And it was only afterwards, when I guess there maybe was an examination of a specimen, a surgical specimen, that they said, ‘Oh, there’s some cancer here.’ Since you always want to find cancer in the earliest stages, whatever kind of cancer it is, to me that was a relatively good piece of news.”

LaPook said “preventative” chemotherapy means treatment “preventing growth of microscopic cancer cells.”

Dr. Shivan Sivakumar, associate professor in oncology at the University of Birmingham, told The Associated Press it sounds like she’s referring to what’s known as “adjuvant” chemotherapy in the medical profession.

“This is chemotherapy after an operation to prevent recurrence,” he said. “This is to attempt to destroy any circulating cancer cells.”

Kate’s announcement came after growing public speculation over her health that until now had been met with silence from the palace.

In January, Kensington Palace announced she underwent planned abdominal surgery and would be taking time to recover in private at least until Easter, on March 31. It said there would be no updates on her health as she recuperated, and said the surgery was not cancer-related.

Then on Britain’s Mother’s Day in March, Kate and her husband, the Prince of Wales, released an image of Kate and her three children that had clearly been doctored, fueling ongoing speculation about her health. Several leading global photo agencies recalled the image.

Kate admitted in a social media post to editing the image, but Kensington Palace refused to release an original, unedited version. Another photo that had been released of the late Queen Elizabeth with her grandchildren also appeared to have been altered.

British tabloids reported Sunday that Kate was spotted in public, publishing a grainy video appearing to show her and William at a farm shop near her family’s home in Windsor. The tabloid quoted onlookers as saying she appeared “happy, relaxed and healthy.”

In February, Kate’s father-in-law, King Charles, announced that he would be undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer which was discovered as he was being treated for an enlarged prostate. Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, have issued updates about his well-being, thanking the public for their support.

The Princess of Wales, formerly known as Kate Middleton, married Prince William, now the heir to the throne, in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29, 2011. They have three children: Prince George, 10; Princess Charlotte, 8; and Prince Louis, 5.

Kate’s photo of Queen Elizabeth II with her grandkids flagged by Getty news agency as “enhanced at source”

    [ad_1]

London — A 2023 photo of the late Queen Elizabeth II and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, credited to Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has been flagged as “digitally enhanced at source” by international photo agency, Getty. The move came after a more recent image, a British Mother’s Day photo released by Kensington Palace in March, was found to have been digitally altered.

The older image was released by Buckingham Palace on April 21, 2023 to mark what would have been the queen’s 97th birthday. Like the photo Princess Kate has now admitted to “editing” of her and her children, the 2023 image was credited to the princess herself, who’s said she enjoys photography as a hobby.

“Getty Images is undertaking a review of handout images and in accordance with its editorial policy is placing an editor’s note on images where the source has suggested they could be digitally enhanced,” a Getty spokesperson told CBS News on Tuesday.

CBS News has circled several parts of this image, originally shared by Buckingham Palace in April 2023 but said to have been taken the previous year by Catherine, the Princess of Wales, with discrepancies that appear to indicate photo editing or manipulation.

The photo was said to have been taken at the royal family‘s Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, in August 2022. A number of inconsistencies are visible upon inspection, including an apparent distortion of the queen’s plaid skirt, several parts of a sofa with misalignments, and a blurred edge along the neck of Prince Louis (at right in the image above).

Getty’s new editorial note came amid speculation over Kate’s health, which was fueled by the discovery of the edits to the March image of her and her children.

In January, Kensington Palace said Kate would be undergoing planned abdominal surgery and taking time to recover in private at least until Easter, on March 31. It said there would be no updates on her health as she recuperated, but then on Britain’s Mother’s Day in March, the couple released the photo of Kate and her three children that had clearly been doctored.

Kate admitted in a social media post to editing the image, but Kensington Palace has refused to release an original, unedited version.

British tabloids reported Sunday that Kate was spotted in public for the first time since she disappeared.

The Sun tabloid newspaper said Kate and her husband Wiliam, the Prince of Wales, were seen at a farm shop near her family’s home in Windsor, west of London, on Saturday. The tabloid quoted onlookers as saying she appeared “happy, relaxed and healthy.” A grainy video clip of the couple walking out of the shop later emerged.

The Sun also reported on Sunday that Kate and William had been seen watching their children play sports, but no images had surfaced of that outing as of Tuesday.

“I think the fact Kate has been seen looking happy, healthy and active will hopefully dampen speculation,” Royah Nikkhah, the royal editor for Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper, told CBS News. “Whether or not she chooses to walk to church on Easter Sunday, she may or may not. But I think they’re still expecting her to resume public duties mid April.”

Diana’s brother worries about ‘truth’ amid Kate Middleton theories

In a new interview, Earl Charles Spencer compared the media scrutiny of Princess Diana prior to her 1997 death to the recent online discourse surrounding her daughter-in-law Kate Middleton, who has been the target of conspiracy theories amid her hiatus from public duties, which began in January after Kensington Palace announced she had undergone abdominal surgery.

When asked about his thoughts on the recent rumors about Middleton, Spencer told BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, in an interview released March 17, “I do worry about what happened to the truth.”

Diana, mother of Middleton’s husband Prince William and Prince Harry, ex-wife of King Charles III and one of the most beloved philanthropists in the world, died at age 36 in a car crash in Paris. Just before the accident, the princess’ vehicle was pursued by paparazzi.

“I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” Spencer said, speaking about the media scrutiny of his sister. “If I look back to ’97 and Diana’s death, I think that was so shocking, the circumstance of her death was so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn’t do. Not because they had a moral judgment, but because it was unacceptable to the public.”

While Middleton is no stranger to media attention, conspiracy theories—and jokes—about her and her absence have been fueled even further in recent days after major photo and news agencies removed from their databases an edited pic of her posing with her and William’s three children—Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, Prince Louis, 5— that Kensington Palace had released March 10. The companies had said the image, the first official photo of the princess since her surgery was announced, did not meet their editorial standards.

Prince William brought up his wife Kate Middleton while out at a royal engagement on Thursday. The Prince of Wales made a visit to WEST, a new youth zone by the charity OnSide. Will got a chance to decorate some cookies with the kids, and when someone complimented his work, he turned the praise to Kate, saying she’s the one with the skills. “It’s really not my impressive work. My wife is the arty one. And my children are more arty than I am, I’ll tell you that,” he said. William’s remark about Kate comes as she’s been a major topic of interest amid her absence from public duties.

The Palace later released a statement from Middleton, which read, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

While Middleton’s immediate family members have not commented on the photo controversy, her maternal uncle Gary Goldsmith, who recently appeared on “Celebrity Big Brother UK,” shared his thoughts about it last week.

“When it came out I said there’s not a chance in hell that Catherine would have photoshopped that herself,” he said on GB News’ “Talking Pints with Nigel Farage” March 14. “And then she says she did. My inside track absolutely went sideways there.”

Kensington Palace had said in their announcement about Middleton’s surgery that she was not expected to return to public duties until after the March 31 Easter holiday, which her rep reiterated Feb. 29. In his interview, Goldsmith defended the Palace, adding they have been “very clear and transparent” about the timeline of his niece’s return. He also reiterated his past comments about her support system.

“I think she’s got the best support infrastructure on the planet,” he added, “and she’s got the best people looking after her.”
