A 21-year-old skier who was reported missing at a Northern California ski resort was found dead Thursday morning, officials said.
Deputies received a report of a possible missing person at Northstar California Resort around 11 p.m. Wednesday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities quickly began investigating and located the man’s vehicle in the resort’s parking lot. Based on their investigation, the sheriff’s office said deputies determined the man had gone skiing earlier in the day and had not returned as expected.
The Placer County Office of Emergency Management coordinated search efforts, activating the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team early Thursday morning. The search included 15 skiers, a snowcat and two snowmobilers. Northstar Ski Patrol members also assisted in the effort.
At approximately 9 a.m., search crews located the man deceased in an area with trees, investigators said. He has been identified as Colin Kang of the San Francisco Bay Area city of Fremont.
Additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death have not been released.
This marked the third death at Northstar California Resort this month.

A dead woman was found lying in the road near a business in the West Perrine area early Friday morning, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and the firm’s owner said the body was dropped off there.
Around 6 a.m., 911 calls alerted deputies to an unresponsive woman lying in the road in the 9800 block of Southwest 170th Street. Deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and determined the unidentified woman was dead.
The sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the death. No cause of death was released.
“The manner and cause of death will be determined by the autopsy results conducted by the Miami-Dade medical examiner,” the sheriff’s office said.
Ron Von Paulus, the owner of Big Rob’s Tree Service, told Local 10 News that the woman’s body was left in front of his business. He said surveillance video shows a truck looping through the area around 5 a.m. before pulling over.
The driver appeared to get out, open the trunk and drag what is thought to be the woman’s body onto the ground before driving away.
“That coldness is just incomprehensible to me. How can somebody think like that? It’s just inhumane to me,” he told Local 10.
The sheriff’s office has not released the identity of the woman or if deputies are looking for a suspect.

A picture of Plainfield man Nabil Abzal, affectionately known as Captain Bill, smiling is what greeted his former boating community who gathered, mourning his death. His friends say he was attacked.
“Unauthorized people, he was trying to escort them off and he never made it back to his boat,” said Alan Brandt Malelo, vigil organizer and friend. “He would cock his hat and smile with his pursed lips.”
The cheerful face memorialized in a picture is how his fellow boaters want to remember the man who loved the very harbor where police said he was murdered.
“It’s a very close-knit community, so we all kind of reached out to one another,” said Frank Jaeger a fellow captain and friend. “It’s unfortunate to hear the news that it was him.”
Flowers, a balloon, and a picture of Abzal adorned an entrance at DuSable Harbor, where just a few feet away on the C dock, mourners gathered for a private vigil to remember the late 63-year-old man before throwing petals into the part of the marina where his body was pulled from last weekend.
“It’s tough to swallow. There are people like Captain Bill out there who are dying because they slept on their boat for the night, and that should not be happening,” Brandt Malelo said. “They got in his boat. They were having a party at 2:45 in the morning, vaping, drinking, whatever; doing what party-goers do, and he woke up.”
While the circumstances surrounding the Plainfield man’s death remain murky, police are ruling it a homicide. Brandt Malelo says his years-long friend and boat neighbor may have been attacked by a group.
“And, he took it upon himself to go to the end of the dock here, and there was a violent act at the end of the dock here and he was thrown in the water, and he never made it back,” Brandt Malelo said. “It’s a tragedy. It’s a modern-day tragedy, and he died protecting us.”
Police have not confirmed what might have led up to the alleged murder, but the owner of a nearby restaurant told ABC7 that they have given police surveillance footage as part of the homicide investigation.
So far, Chicago police say no one has been arrested.
Police in Maple Grove, Minnesota, are investigating after the discovery of a body early Friday morning in a pond near a popular park and shopping district.
Officers were called to the scene at about 6:35 a.m. after a worker spotted the body near 85th Avenue North and Valley Forge Lane North, according to Commander Jonathan Wetternach. The pond is in the northeast corner of the city’s massive gravel mining area that lies east of Central Park and The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol was called in to help recover the deceased, whose identity and official cause of death will be released at a later time by the county’s medical examiner.
Wetternach said the discovery “may be connected with a recently reported missing person,” and their family has been notified.
“There is no known risk to the community,” Wetternach said. “The loss of life is difficult and tragic for any family or community.”
Maple Grove is about 15 miles northwest of Minneapolis.
A Minnesota hiker who went missing earlier this month in Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains has been found dead, officials say.
Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn says Grant Gardner was found in the Coud Peak Wilderness on Tuesday.
A professional climbing team from North Carolina summited Cloud Peak and descended on the northern route of the peak. While making a camp for the evening, the climbers noticed a “slight reflection a few hundred feet above them underneath a ledge,” according to the sheriff’s office. The team was confident it was a backpack.
The team notified law enforcement about their finding and waited for teams to arrive at daylight.
Once the SAR Team arrived, Gardner’s remains were located near the backpack. He was wearing clothing that “very closely matched the terrain he was climbing in,” authorities said.
The sheriff’s office says the recovery of Gardner was difficult and dangerous, and he is being brought home to his family.
The Big Horn County Coroner’s Office will determine the time, manner and cause of death for Gardner.
“We believe Gardner succumbed to a tragic accident as we all have surmised,” Blackburn said.
The search for Gardner began on Aug. 1 and was suspended last week.
Gardner planned a three-day hike through the Misty Moon Lake area and summited Cloud Peak on July 29. He texted his wife at the summit to let her know he made it, but the climb was “more taxing than he expected,” according to the sheriff’s office.

A Man’s Body Was Recently Found In A Freezer At A Grocery Store
As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, a man’s body was found inside a freezer at a Food Lion store in North Carolina. Additionally, initial reports asserted that the man worked at the location, and his body was found by his co-workers.
Furthermore, at the time, authorities did not publicly release the man’s identity. However, they did share insight into his cause of death, briefly asserting that he experienced a medical emergency.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him as 40-year-old Lorenzo Tobin of Country Club Hills.
Tobin had been missing since a yacht capsized and sunk in the area on Friday night.
The U.S. Coast Guard said they received calls about a 25-foot double-decker pleasure yacht capsizing and then sinking around 7:30 p.m. Friday near 31st Street Harbor.
The Coast Guard said 16 people were on the boat at the time of the incident. Everyone except Tobin made it out of the water.
A man was still missing Saturday after a yacht capsized and sank, leaving 16 boaters in Lake Michigan near Chicago’s 31st Street Harbor, police said.
Three people, a man and two women, were taken to a local hospital for treatment after the incident, all in good condition, police said.
Tobin remained missing, but authorities postponed their search for him on Saturday due to dangerous and choppy conditions.
A witness said he saw the boat speeding in the water on Friday night before flipping over, and then, he heard screams for help.
The US Coast Guard and CPD are searching for at least 1 person still missing after a pleasure yacht sank in Lake Michigan near 31st Street Harbor.
A group called Boat Safe Chicago captured drone video of the wreckage just moments after the crash. Jon Meyer with the group was on their boat nearby, enjoying a concert at Northerly Island when the mayday call came in.
“We were the closest boat to it, so we came around the corner… saw the victims in the water… saw them getting helped,” Meyer said. “There were a couple other boaters there also helping.”
Meyer said there may have been some warning signs ahead of the accident.
“So when they actually turned to go into the harbor, the boat flipped over… several of the passengers had warned the captain hey the boat has a strange lean to it… so it looks like it was taking on water,” Meyer said.
In a separate incident, police said a 36-year-old man was pulled from the lake at around 4:32 a.m. Saturday. ABC7 was at 31st Street Harbor as paramedics rushed the person into an ambulance and began to perform CPR.
The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding that incident.
Palo Alto police have closed off parts of some downtown streets Thursday afternoon after a man’s body was found in a city parking garage.

The 400 blocks of Bryant Street and Florence Street are shut down while police investigate the case.

(FOX40.COM) — A body was found near River Islands in Lathrop on Saturday, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. • Video Above: Search continues for missing boater in San Joaquin River
The body was found by volunteer diver Juan Heredia around 4:30 p.m. and comes nearly two weeks after a boater, Tommy Clark, went missing. Clark was fishing with a friend in the San Joaquin River on May 23 when their boat capsized. He went into the water and never resurfaced.
“I’m not following in the what-ifs,” said Clark’s sister, Barbara Ritter, on May 26. “He’s gone. The sooner we accept it, we’ll be able to go through the process and accept it.”
SCSO has not confirmed if the body found is Clark, but said the medical examiner’s office will provide the identity after an autopsy.

Body pulled from Potomac River believed to be missing swimmer
A body recovered from the Potomac River on Monday is believed to be a young man who went missing last Friday while attempting to swim from Virginia to Maryland.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer told WTOP two swimmers near Great Falls tried to cross from Virginia into Maryland on Friday evening.
On Sunday afternoon, sonar equipment indicated a body may have been stuck in some rocks close to the area the swimmer was last seen.
As crews prepared to investigate the sonar imaging Monday morning, officials got a tip.
“A local kayaker noticed the body floating in the water,” Piringer said. “That body has since been recovered.”
Montgomery County police are leading the death investigation. U.S. Park police assisted county police in the search and recovery efforts.
Swimming spot draws ‘unusual’ number of young swimmers to danger
The man has not been identified publicly. His death comes as good weather has drawn visitors out to Great Falls, even though swimming in the Potomac is illegal and violators can be fined.
In the past few weeks leading up to Memorial Day, Piringer said the department has responded to around a half dozen incidents in the Great Falls area.

“The water levels are about four feet, which is relatively high, but the currents are treacherous,” Piringer said.
Just in the past week or so, the department has contributed to two notable water rescues. One involved two kayakers who went over the falls.
These two young people were lucky that they survived that ordeal. One had to be plucked off the rocks by the helicopter and was taken to a trauma center.
In several instances, swimmers have been swept away, including one where rescue crews plucked someone out of the water.
“There have been an unusual number of young people, groups that have been swimming,” Piringer said.
In particular, groups are gathering at Purple Horse Beach and Sandy Landing. Piringer said though swimming is not allowed and “dangerous,” there are some rocks swimmers jump off into the water below.
“When you’re jumping in the water, there’s hazards underneath the water that might be unseen,” he said.
Another potential danger is that water levels change daily and the currents are strong, Piringer said.
Last year, water levels were low so young people “could swim safely and got away with it,” he said. “But water is different this year it’s higher, because currents are much stronger.”
Officials are on Billy Goat Trail along the Potomac River Monday reminding visitors on safety tips, according to Piringer.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man’s body was recovered from the Mississippi River in St. Paul Saturday morning, officials said.
A 911 caller reported a body in the river on the 700 block of Butternut Avenue, near the Lilydale boat launch, around 9:45 a.m., according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

DALLAS, Texas (KTRK) — A mother who vanished two years ago was found dead, leaving her family desperate for answers.
This week, investigators in Collin County, which is near Plano, confirmed that the remains found in February are those of 25-year-old Mercedes Clement.
Investigators said they used dental records to identify her.
On the night of Oct. 11, 2020, Mercedes, then 25 years old, called a few of her friends, telling one that she felt scared and needed a ride to her car.
The next day, her parents, Alicia and Emiliano Gazotti, received a letter notifying them that their daughter’s car had been towed.
Clement’s purse, found in her car the next day, also raises suspicions.
Surveillance video released last year captured Clement walking across a Dallas parking lot, accompanied by a man. The man in the video was considered a person of interest, but no official suspects have been named.
