  • I’m Always Saving Barbara Palvin’s Beauty Looks—I Asked Her How She Creates Them

I’m Always Saving Barbara Palvin’s Beauty Looks—I Asked Her How She Creates Them

    [ad_1]

There’s absolutely no denying that model has a unique ability to flawlessly execute beauty trends while embracing her natural features. A quick scroll through her Instagram page reveals a feed peppered with everything from editorial photo shoots with major brands to snaps of her everyday life. “When I’m in a time crunch, my go-to products are Armani Beauty’s Luminous Silk Foundation, Eyes to Kill Wet Waterproof Mascara, and Lip Powder Lipstick,” she explains. “Even just these three products make such a difference in helping me look put-together.” In many of her personal pics posted to her page, Palvin sports fresh-faced, barely-there makeup looks while on the go.

It’s no wonder her approach to quick and easy makeup happens to be the blueprint of the social media–driven “model off duty” look that’s risen to prominence over the past couple of years. Palvin also has a soft spot for 2023’s ‘90s-inspired makeup trends, more of which we’ll be seeing throughout this year on and off the runway. “[I] just want the ’90s strong-lip-liner trend to stay,” says Palvin. In 2024, beauty trends are certainly skewing in her favor, with chocolate-colored liner and full, glossy lips predicted to stick around a while longer with modern-day products.

The arrival of January gives us the perfect opportunity to hop on the last of winter’s beauty trends, and I’ll be taking cues from Palvin to kick off the New Year in style. “I always love to go with a stronger lip—not necessarily a classic red lip, but maybe something deeper and darker,” she says. To create this bold look, she layers Armani’s Lip Power Matte in shades 603 and 207. The stunning lip combo is also her go-to during the holiday season.

  • I Got the Scoop on the Beauty Products Nordstrom Has to Restock Constantly

I Got the Scoop on the Beauty Products Nordstrom Has to Restock Constantly

    [ad_1]

I will always look back on 2023 as the year I was finally won over by Dior’s best-selling Lip Glow Oil, discovered a newfound adoration for the full-coverage and glowy combo offered by Armani’s Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Foundation, and was converted into a Jo Malone fragrance enthusiast. So what’s in store for me in the New Year? I like to think that it’ll be spent in pursuit of a “that girl” beauty collection filled with only the highest-performing products that I can trust to carry me through 2024 without fail.

With that energy in mind, I reached out to one of my favorite retailers for a better idea of which beauty products are worth having. As a Seattle native, Nordstrom has always been my go-to for all things beauty. It’s the place where I purchased my first eau de parfum and experienced a full-face beat at the hands of Anastasia Beverly Hills’ makeup counter. With their help, I’ve ID’d the top skincare, hair, makeup, and fragrance finds that have been absolutely flying off the shelves recently. I’ll be using this as my Nordstrom beauty shopping guide going forward, so don’t be surprised if I try to snag all of these for myself.

If You Haven't Found Your “New Year, New Me” Scent, These 16 Are 100% On-Brand

It isn’t just me who notices a spike in green tea beauty products every time we kick off the New Year, right? The more I’ve thought about the anomaly, the more I’ve been able to draw connections between the powdered green tea leaves and the high-reaching goals so many of us set for ourselves the second the clock strikes 12 and the Times Square Ball drops. Here’s what I’m thinking—the appearance of matcha in those “new year, new me” social media posts you scroll across for weeks into the New Year is no coincidence.

Matcha and other kinds of green tea provide antioxidants and nutrients to keep you going through your day. Studies show a variety of benefits, including protection of the liver, promotion of heart health, and boosted brain function when consumed thanks to a high level of antioxidants. However, when it’s worn as a fragrance, green tea can help promote calmness and serenity. I’ve scoured the farthest corners of the internet and my fragrance collection to ID the 16 best matcha and green tea scents you should be using well into the New Year.

  • I Have a Degree in English—These Eight Fragrances Remind Me of My Favorite Reads

I Have a Degree in English—These Eight Fragrances Remind Me of My Favorite Reads

    [ad_1]

Before becoming a beauty editor, my background was in English literature (more specifically, novels and essays produced by women through the 19th and 20th centuries). Spending so much time in the company of books provided endless inspiration and intrigue in my daily life, transporting me to places and introducing me to people I never knew I needed before cracking open a cover. Between essays, presentations, and tests, I spent every possible moment in college reading to my heart’s delight. Trust me—I have the horrible eyesight of a classic bibliophile to prove it.

Whenever I get the opportunity, I love drawing connections between some of my favorite literary works and the scents I wear on rotation. Keep reading for a look into my world with eight gorgeous scents to spark your imagination and five must-have home fragrances to help set the ambience before you dive into those pages.

  • If You Have a Gamine Essence, These Tips Will Up Your Makeup Game

If You Have a Gamine Essence, These Tips Will Up Your Makeup Game

    [ad_1]

We caught up with beauty expert, makeup artist, and and entrepreneur Jenny Patinkin to get the scoop on the best makeup practices for individuals with gamine facial features. “Gamine facial features tend to be delicate, so overdoing contouring can give an almost sunken or hollow look,” says Patinkin. “If I do any contouring at all, it’s only a subtle wash done at the part of the cheekbone closest to the ears and not extended onto the face more than one to two inches and perhaps a little on the jawline to call attention to the V shape of the jawline.”

Instead, Patinkin prefers to focus on bringing a soft glow to the cheeks and a slightly contoured smoky eye to create a round, doe-eyed look with a sultry flair. “It’s important to use makeup brushes sized for more delicate features instead of very large ones that can over-apply products like bronzer or contour,” she tells us. Her tool of choice is her very own Sustainable Luxury Angled Multi-Blender Brush, which she uses to apply cheek products. With it, she’s able to control placement in addition to creating a beautiful soft blend with minimal effort.

“I know the temptation is to do a heavier brow with this look à la Audrey Hepburn, the ultimate gamine, but I would advise caution when it comes to squaring off the inner corner of the brow or using a very opaque color to fill in,” Patinkin explains. Both can look overly harsh in contrast to one’s more delicate features rather than complementing them as needed.

Now that you know how to give gamine facial features the attention they deserve with the help of Patinkin, keep reading to discover the 16 bronzers, blushes, contour sticks, and highlighters that will deliver a stunning makeup look every time.

  • Blush Has Become *the* MVP Beauty Product, so I Found the 17 Best Money Can Buy

Blush Has Become *the* MVP Beauty Product, so I Found the 17 Best Money Can Buy

    [ad_1]

Despite the overwhelming results accompanying an internet search for “the best blushes,” shopping for your ideal blush can be made simple. One of the biggest determining factors when I’m on the hunt for a new blush product is, without a doubt, its formula. Most blush formulas fall into one of the following categories: powder, cream, gel, or liquid. Recently, cream-based blush formulas have been on the rise, with makeup lines providing them as alternate versions of their best-selling powder blush products. For example, Nars’s cult-classic powder blush in Orgasm has been launched in the form of a multiuse stick.

I flock toward cream and gel blushes that have a sheer yet buildable quality to them since they tend to allow space for teeny-tiny mistakes and a chance to build up the product to my desired pigment. My skin type happens to be dry, so I prefer using products that are chock-full of long-lasting skincare benefits. Blush comes in a number of finishes that can impact a finished makeup look. Whether you’re in the mood for matte or longing for something dewy and fresh, there’s something out there for you!

Before we dive into the blushes I was completely obsessed with long before becoming a beauty editor, I thought it would be helpful to reach out to one of the beauty industry’s most reputable celebrity makeup artists who doesn’t shy away from adding a gorgeous flush of color any chance she gets. Courtney Hart, who has worked with the likes of Anna Cathcart, Kristen Bell, Hilary Duff, and Chelsea Handler, shared a couple of the blushes she’s always reaching for in her makeup kit. Check out her picks and a number of my personal favorites below!

  • “Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

“Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

    [ad_1]

This year, we’ve seen a slew of food and drink-inspired makeup trends. As it turns out, you can create a beauty look based on all of your favorite foods—whether it’s tomatoes, strawberries, dirty martinis, or glazed donuts. The world is your oyster (oyster girl makeup coming soon?).

Next on the docket, apparently, is champagne. More specifically, “champagne cheeks” swept the Venice Film Festival. Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Madisin Rian, and India Amarteifio all sported champagne cheeks at Armani’s One Night Only Haute Couture Prive Show.

What exactly are champagne cheeks? The latest trend is actually a highlighter technique. For champagne cheeks, you’ll want to use a champagne-toned highlighter—think a gold-toned beige—and sweep it all over your cheeks. The result is radiant while still being subtle.

In Venice, Sweeney, Apatow, Rian, and Amarteifio all used the exact same product to create this champagne-kissed effect. The product in question is Armani’s Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer in the color Champagne Gold.

In the realm of designer makeup brands, there’s one you’ll find time and time again in celebrity makeup artists’ kits: Armani Beauty. That’s because Armani makes some of the most efficacious and long-wearing makeup out there. Their foundation is second to none (Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle both reportedly wear it) and their other makeup products are just as good for creating flawless looks that work for every occasion.

Of course, Armani makeup products are normally pretty spendy ($45 for a lipstick is nothing to sneeze at). While I fully endorse splurging on Armani products as investment products, I’m also all for a deal. Right now is the best time to buy Armani products, since from September 1 to September 6, Armani Beauty is 25% off sitewide. Keep reading for the best beauty products you can score from Armani during the sale.

  • If You Love Alluring, Subtly Sweet Fragrances, Prioritize This Strategic Note

If You Love Alluring, Subtly Sweet Fragrances, Prioritize This Strategic Note

    [ad_1]

Figs, as popular as they are, often have an oddly polarizing effect on people. While some may absolutely crave the fruit’s sweet, fleshy flavor drizzled with honey on top of toast slathered with a generous layer of prosciutto or ricotta, many others refuse to let the Ficus carica tree’s edible fruit make it past their lips. But where fragrance is considered, fig largely possesses a reputation un-inhibited by taste buds and textures.

I heartily believe the fruit’s presence in fragrance adds the ideal amount of sweetness and earthiness that’s unrivaled by any other, evoking imagery of endless, sun-bathed fig tree groves that are so commonly associated with the Mediterranean coast. But as someone who’s yet to take in the sight, I get my kicks from eau de parfum and eau de toilettes that paint the picture for me.

Below you’ll find a selection of 13 fragrances that I return to time and time again for my fig fix. Whether you love eating or “wearing” the fruit more, there’s a good chance you’ll find a fragrance here that you’ll fall in love with. And for you fig haters out there, these juicy scents may take everything you think you know about the fruit and throw it to the wind. Keep reading to discover the fig fragrances worth your time from Byredo’s ‘Pulp’ to Phlur’s ‘Father Figure.’

This Is the Iconic Perfume That Turned Sadie Sink Into a Fragrance Person

Even though it’s such a sophisticated scent, it really does work for everyone. There are some fantastic versions of the fragrance. Do you have a favorite?

I think the Sì Intense ($158). That was the first one that I tried. I’m not sure why, but it’s my favorite. The Passione ($158) is probably the runner-up, but I’d say those two are my favorites.

Are you a person who wears fragrance every day or are you a person who reserves it for special occasions?

I used to only wear it for a special event, but over the last year or two, I’ve definitely started wearing it every day. I think it’s so nice to have a go-to signature scent that people associate with you. You can leave a lasting impression on someone with it—just having a connection to a scent, I think, can be really powerful, and I’ve loved having that as of recently. I’m definitely very routine with applying fragrance every day.

It’s like an accessory, isn’t it?

    Yes!

15 Italian Perfumes That Make You Smell Expensive Instantly for Less Than $195

    [ad_1]

Despite my lifelong connection to the lush, green, and incredibly picturesque mountains and forests of the Pacific Northwest, I’ve always been drawn to the sun- and sand-covered visuals of Italy. Now don’t get me wrong—I loved my childhood exploring the rocky shorelines of the Pacific in the company of the towering evergreen trees, but a part of me has always dreamt of having my very own Eat, Pray, Love adventure. While I’ve yet to experience the bright Italian coastline firsthand, my love for Italian heritage brands with extensive fragrance lines has been more than enough to sustain me until I can travel there myself.

With that in mind, I’ve taken it upon myself to round up 15 of my favorite Italian perfume from these brands, ranging from Bulgari’s powdery-fresh Eau Parfumée au Thé fragrances to Gucci’s iconic florals (in equally aesthetic, vintage-inspired bottles) and Prada’s modern amber and gourmand scents for the high-fashion minimalist in all of us. Each fragrance will make you feel rich in more ways than one, all falling under $200. Ready to embark on an olfactory journey through Italy’s biggest fashion houses? Keep reading.

  • Tessa Thompson Swears By This Cult-Loved Foundation and $8 Face Mist

Tessa Thompson Swears By This Cult-Loved Foundation and $8 Face Mist

    [ad_1]

What would you say your everyday makeup routine looks like?

It’s pretty simple but has also become slightly more complicated because I’ve gotten into gadgets and tools and stuff. On a perfect day, I would have a minute to do some of that stuff like skin prep. It would be a toner, some moisturizer depending on what the weather’s like and what my skin needs. I have gotten really into primer, and Armani Beauty makes a lovely primer that I use now if I’m going to do makeup. Typically, an everyday thing for me is a no-makeup makeup [look]. [I like] just a little bit of foundation. Sometimes, I’ll even mix it with my moisturizer, serum, or a little bit of oil. I like to use corrector under my eyes, so a little bit of orange, then a little bit of concealer, and then not that much powder—maybe just in the middle of my face. Then I use some rose water, and off I go. For every day probably, I would wear Armani’s Lip Power Lipstick because it’s really moisturizing, and if I’m not doing a color color, I would do something closer to my natural lip color and work it out almost like a stain, and that would be a good five-minute makeup look.

Something that’s really good is using a liquid highlighter too! Sometimes, I will mix that with a little bit of foundation, a little bit of oil, and then it’ll give sort of a sheen. Remember when BB balm was so big? Kind of like that!

Yes! It’ll give you a really natural, dewy glow.

Exactly. You mix a little bit of Armani’s Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer ($33) with a little bit of foundation, a little bit of oil, and even a little bit of moisturizer. I just take a blush brush and just lightly brush that across my face. That’s an easy no-makeup makeup look and creates a healthy glow.

I know you already mentioned a few, but what are your all-time favorite Armani Beauty products?

I have so many! The Luminous Silk Foundation is why I’m really happy to get to represent this brand and this product because I’ve been using it for so long and, at the time—I know this sounds silly to say about makeup—it really was life changing when I discovered it because I had been working mostly in television and on some indie films. I was a young actor, and I would sit in chairs, and artists would have such a hard time shade-matching my skin. At the time, there weren’t a ton of brands that had a wide range of shades. And typically, they would put stuff on me, and I would look either orange, or I would look ashy. Then, I had my first big red carpet, and an artist used Luminous Silk on me, and he actually mixed two shades—one that was way too light for me and way too dark for me—and made his own special thing. Then he said, “You should look into this brand,” and I did. I remember going to a department store and finding something. It was the first time there was a shade that was right for me and came out of a bottle.

Not just for me, but for friends and family, it’s been so easy for me to color-match for people in my life because there’s such a wide range of shades. Their foundation really did help me feel and look like myself when I was at work. As I mentioned, their primer’s really good. Another thing that I have discovered more recently in the last couple of years is the Fluid Sheer, which is so beautiful. You can use it, as I said, mixed with your foundation, and so many of their products are so user-friendly. I’ll be done with a full face of makeup and set it, then I can use Fluid Sheer and put it right on top, and it doesn’t do anything weird or funky to the makeup. It sits perfectly and just makes you look really dewy. I also love to use it on my shoulders or my clavicle if I have skin showing, and it just gives you this very healthy, dewy look. I find that with some highlighters, you can sort of see the glitter a little too much. My approach is usually to do pretty easy makeup, so I like it to be a little more invisible. This one can be, but it’s also buildable, so if you want it to be a bit more dramatic, you just use a little more when applying.

  • The 15 Best Cream Foundations of 2022, Hands Down

The 15 Best Cream Foundations of 2022, Hands Down

    [ad_1]

Cream foundations tend to be a little richer, more nourishing, with a little extra coverage,” says RMS Beauty founder and celebrity makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. It’s this richness that makes cream formulas especially beneficial for dry skin types. The rich, buttery formulas are often packed with powerful hydrators like hyaluronic acid and glycerin. According to Ellis, they’re also great for problematic or redness-prone skin that requires coverage strong enough to cancel out redness. “Their moisturizing textures help to cushion and even out the complexion in a more natural way,” she adds. If your skin is more on the oily side, however, then cream foundations might not be the best option for you, since you probably don’t need the added moisture. Instead, look for powder or liquid formulas with a matte finish.

Although you might think that due to their thicker textures, cream foundations would look and feel heavy on the skin, with the right tools and technique, you can achieve really natural-looking, weightless results. “The beauty of a cream foundation is you can either use your fingers and press into any areas where it needs coverage or you can use a brush,” says Ellis. “For a lightweight coverage, blend and circulate the foundation into the skin, and for a fuller coverage, press and stipple into the skin.” If you’re keen to try this technique, look specifically for a stippling brush. Designed with two layers of bristles—a shorter, more compact one to press the product in and a longer, looser layer to pick up and deposit the product—these brushes are perfect for achieving an airbrushed finish.

Converted? To help you narrow down your options, we’ve tried and tested 2022’s best-selling, highly rated cream foundations, including drugstore and luxury options. There’s also a variety of finishes and coverages, from matte to dewy, sheer to full, and everything in between.
